Speaker 1 (00:04):
You're listening to Balls and Holes with Jessica Bowser and
Brian Pascarelli. Hi, baby, So we're back. We are back.
Finally we took a break. We took two months off.
This is Balls and Hole Season two. I know, can
you believe? Twenty six episode. We started our podcast last

(00:26):
year with me quitting my job and deciding that I
wanted to join a country club and play as much
golf as possible for a year. And we did that.
I think we successfully did that. Do you know that
we played a hundred and eighty five rounds. It's pretty ridiculous.

(00:46):
That's a lot of it's a lot of golf. I
tell people that and they look at me like I'm crazy,
and then they also seem incredibly jealous. Yeah. We uh,
we took some time off. We are going to do
like a reek have today of what our year was like.
Our year was awesome. This is the best year of
my life. Really totally hand down what you don't you

(01:09):
don't you don't you don't share the same sentiment. What
why the best? Well, I mean, not working was incredible.
Golfing was probably the best experience I've ever had. Um,
I got to do it with you. Um, we have
an awesome life. We have a lot of fun. I

(01:31):
don't know, man, it was just like, in looking back,
this was an incredible year. Yeah, I'm really proud of us.
I'm super proud of us. It was so incredible that
I'm having a hard time facing the reality of having
to go back to some semblance of real life. I
don't think much is going to change. I think we're
still going to play golf. I mean, we renewed our
membership at our country club. Um, I'm we're playing golf tomorrow.

(01:53):
I still love playing golf with you. So our first
episode of this podcast was called Ladies Only. The first
episode of our podcast was called Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden.
And the whole reason for starting this podcast was to
talk about the fact that men and women don't typically
play golf together and why men and women don't play

(02:14):
golf together more. And we wanted to see what that
was all about, right, and if it was true. And yeah,
it's definitely true that most men and women do not
play together. But I think it's been so interesting, like
this year held so many things, and you and I
came off the course just yesterday having a conversation about
the fact that we were going to record and we're

(02:35):
talking about it and we both agreed that we have
such a different outlook. A year later, eighty five games later,
on this specific subject as well as just golf in
general and like what it means to us and how
different things are. Yeah, I was talking to Darby, our
co host Lefty, and basically, how can summed up is

(02:58):
I feel like I don't care anymore, and I know
that sounds weird. I still love golf, but like, this
is January two three, and this is the month that
all the new products come out. For example, every brand
has a product launch. I just I'm not excited about it.
You have not been at Roger Dunne every day. I
haven't been in Roger Done in a while. I came

(03:21):
to the conclusion that, I mean, I have fifteen sets,
twenty nine putters, countless number of woods. You know, wedges,
everyone knows that. But like, I'm using what i have
and I'm really happy with it. I'm not looking for
the bigger and better. Of course, I love new, shiny
things and looking at it, but like, truly my attitude
has totally changed. I'm not on the hunt for that thing,

(03:44):
that new club or whatever. I'm just kind of content
with what I have now. Like you said yesterday, it's
about just enjoying golf now, well, I think it's far
more enjoyable now. Right, Like yesterday, we went out and
we ended up getting paired with John and Jay, who
were like to late seventies, in their seventies players. They
were hysterical. They both were like retired post production guys.

(04:06):
So that was my old world, and we had an
absolute blast. Right. It wasn't fast, but it was hilarious,
and we had a really good time. And I was
thinking back to maybe like at the beginning of when
we started this journey, how like we never wanted to
be paired with people, Like we were so intent on
going out and like working on our game, and we

(04:27):
were taking it so seriously. I mean it was as
if justin Brian were like, you know, trying to get
on the tour or something, because we just wanted to.
I mean, at least for me, right, like you've been golfing,
I don't know, twenty somewhat years, right, I had made
this huge you know, I promised to myself that I
was going to go out and get really good, and
there were all of these different things that I wanted

(04:49):
to accomplish, and I accomplished all those things, right, Like
I played five games, I went from shooting in the
triple digits to successfully and consecutively shooting in the load
of mid eighties. I broke eighty, I broke ninety, broke
you know, like I broke all of the things I
needed to break. And now that those things have happened,

(05:12):
I just go out and I'm enjoying myself. I don't
care who we're with. I don't care what's happening. I
don't care if I play not great that day. It's
just like, okay, Now I can fully be out here
and enjoy it and just take in the process of it.
It's not about what clubs I have. It's all about
where I'm at and who I'm doing it with. In

(05:32):
the majority of the time, I'm I mean, all the time,
I'm doing it with you, and we're doing it with
other people, right, And I totally agree with you. And
even when I don't go off with you, like yes,
the day before that, I played in Cino Babbo with Darby.
I was in a deposition. He calls me and says
can you can you meet me? It was eleven. Most

(05:53):
of the time I would be like so frantic about
what clubs I want to choose, what clothes, what shoes,
what putter. I literally grabbed the bag and I don't
even know what clubs were in that bag that day,
and I just went on golf. It didn't matter what
clubs I had. I just wanted to go golf with
Darby and be out there. So like my attitude has
completely changed. Like I would overthink like my bag, for example,

(06:15):
and now it's just like, oh, you want to go
spur the moment, let's go. It's like we have our
surfboard in the car and you just go to side
to catch some waves. It's it's a completely different experience. Now.
I think it's better. I think it's way better. Like
I mean, it was, you know, eight or nine months
ago that you were getting so angry that like clubs
were getting thrown and landing in trees. And you know,

(06:35):
I will say this, you have calmed down immensely and
I have maybe gone in the other direction, and it's
been such a positive thing. Like I used to get
so upset when you would get angry out on the
golf course, or if people were slow, or if you
hit a bad shot, like you'd lose your ship. I'd
be all irritated. And now you're like Mr Zinn golfer,

(06:56):
and I've turned a bit more into the person where
or if something doesn't go right, I am cussing, I'm yelling,
and I'm slamming my club as hard as I can
into the ground. And it's made you so practical, gives
me such great joy as to see you with so
much anger. I'm just a little worried about the club.
You might break it because you've been hitting it real hard.

(07:18):
It's usually your five or three would And I'm like, wow,
she's there, she cares, and I don't think you it's
not like the it's because you know you're good enough
now to do it. So when you do a batchelor,
you're like, shoot, I don't usually do that, and like
I know I can do better well, And it's a
different kind of mad, Like it's not a frustration I

(07:39):
don't know how to do this mad. It's I could
have done this better or I know what went wrong,
and I'm a bit mad at my performance. But it
also doesn't matter, right, like. It also feels really good
to get piste off out on the golf course. I
have like really like welcome. Yeah, it's like you can't

(08:00):
get mad in public, which every time I leave the
house there's something that's you know, egregious an upsetting to me.
These days, general population is scary. Everything's kind of ridiculous,
and so it's a safe place to go lose your
ship in a really safe and like a positive way.

(08:20):
I don't know, and all the fellow golfers know what
you're going through. No one's judging you. Everyone's been there,
everyone's had a tantrum, everyone's been angry at themselves. I
used to get so frustrated losing the ball. Now I
kind of look from my ball. If I don't, I
give up and I just keep playing, which is huge.
You used to look for every single ball. And that's
why I always loved playing with Scotti because we would

(08:42):
just like a ball would fly off and we'd be like, whatever,
you've totally calmed down. We both totally calmed down. It
is so easy to go out and play golf together.
It was always easy for us to go play golf together.
But you know, one of the other things I've noticed too,
is you know, the reaction to a female on the
of course, I think we still have our own same

(09:03):
reaction when we see other females on the golfers. I
take a lot of pride in the fact that, like,
I get that look a lot of times when we
get paired up with with people. But what's been really
fun to see change is that we I get that
look and then I end up really impressing upon whoever
we play with. I I know the feeling when you

(09:23):
are in my car and then the guys roll up
and they're like, ship, it's a girl, And I'm like
thinking to myself, don't worry, They're going to be impressed.
And then you not only do you win them over
with your golf skills, but you're just a nice person,
and then you're pretty and then they like playing with you.
A lot of times I even beat them. That is
absolutely true. So we've we've met a lot of people
along the way. Let's take a break and when we

(09:44):
come back with talking all about that. Yeah, all right,

(10:06):
so we're back, so Jazz. You know, in within twenty
five episodes, we've had a lot of cool people on
the show. We've had a lot of really awesome interviews.
I mean the show itself. Not only have we had
great interviews, but you use the show to uh, you know,
impress upon the golf community companies. And I tell them
I have a golf podcast and they can verify it

(10:27):
through my heart and the eight Side Network. They tend
to listen to me a little bit more. They might
get me some swagger or return something. Yeah, we've used it,
but you know, we've Yeah, we've met some amazing people.
I mean, my god, we are. We have new best
friends right Like, we've got the Bombs only golf apparel guys.
We've got Alex and Ryan. They've been incredible. They've obviously
supported us. We've supported them. We've done they've sponsored us,

(10:51):
and we wear pretty much only bombs only clothing everywhere
we go. I am wearing the head of Toe Bombs
on you right now. And it's not because there are friends,
but it's really cool gear. And I'm so proud of them.
And we were there from the inception and they've just
grown and grown and they're just doing such great things
and hopefully some big things are coming down the way

(11:13):
there right now at Minimal and at seven two yep,
and hopefully they'll be at Worldwide Golf, which is Roger
done and that is incredible. They're they're sponsoring a tournament
tomorrow with their booth and all that. So we couldn't
be more proud of you. Yeah, they're incredible. We we've
gotten to know uh Mr Sam Han over at LAB Golf.

(11:33):
I mean, I think anybody who listens to us knows
that I'm a huge fan of Lab Golf. I don't
put with anything but my Lab Golf potter. But Sam
Han has become a buddy of ours. In fact, he
is coming to town in a couple of weeks and
we just received word that he wants to come and
play golf with us. So we are taking Sam out
for a golf outing. We get to hang out with him.
We're going to be at the Genesis and Mrs and Vocational. Uh,

(11:57):
he's going to be there. A lot of our friends
are going to be there. Um, so that's going to
be really exciting. Yeah, we we and of course Sam Hello,
I will be using my meds or director Force two
point one when we play together. And by the way, um,
also we've had you know, Scott Golf, We've had seven
two indoor golf simulators. We've had um the guys from

(12:18):
Part for Success. We've been had a bikini model slash
lawyer who was in a fitness competition, like yeah, Sarah
Wild had such kind of a wide array and it's
pretty pretty cool. Yeah, we've we've had some really fun
times with everybody. We've had our favorite card girl, Megan
was on. That was a great interview. We had Adam
Grubb from Stick and Hack, who's another golf podcast that's

(12:39):
on the eight side with all of us, and you know,
so yeah, within the last year we got to interview
some really amazing people and and make a lot of
new friends. I mean, we go to courses to play
and we run into people who either know who we are,
or we've listened to us, or who we've seen us at,
you know, different events, and it's just been amazing. Yeah,
it has been great. It's been a really good time.

(13:01):
And we've had our friend Derby who is left and
Righty who's our our right hand man in golf with
us every Sunday at least, and so we want to
thank Derby for all his contributions and help and we'll
have him on the show again. Yeah, soon. Yeah. I
think having Derby on more this season will be a
lot of fun. I mean it seems like every time

(13:21):
we go with golfing with Derby, something really hilarious sens
up happening, or we have some sort of confrontation of
some sort with I think one of the things that um,
in looking back through our past episodes, we've had some
really hilarious stories. Um, you know, we've had what perfect
swingers we met the swingers on the golf course. Uh,

(13:42):
they had the accident of two were Scottie and I
almost died. We've had a out of control remote control
cart try to chase and kill us. Yeah, we had.
And we've had the cartel, you know, talking about how
we can never get a golf cart when we need
one right, and how stingy places are with their golf cards.

(14:03):
I think one of the things we're starting to see
at this point too, is like everything is a lot
more busy. We are seeing way more people out on
the golf course. So I foresee that this next year
we're going to have even more hilarious stories. Yeah. We
even when we get paired up their story sometimes we
don't talk about it on the air. Because it's just
kind of commonplace. After rounds, you meet so many different,

(14:25):
many people, and you know, some of them stand out,
but most of them is just golf and golf as
as we as we play it, you know, and it's
I have so many business cards and so many people,
you know, are interested in what we have to say.
And yeah, not only that, but you know, we've had
a lot of people. I mean, it was said to

(14:46):
us yesterday, Um, I wish I had a girl that
I could play golf with, you know, and you know,
like the gentleman we played with yesterday, John and j
we're talking about how cool it is that we do
what we do, that we took this time off, that
we've got this podcast, but that truly you and I
are out golfing together and having a blast and like
that we're good golfers. That's what they say, and those

(15:08):
are their words. But I think they were very very
impressed with your skills. It's very rare to see a
girl out there and very rare to see a girl
do well. Yeah, that's true. And you weren't holding it up.
In fact, we were waiting for them. I wasn't holding
it out of what are you talking about so typically
you would think that most women, and I guess I

(15:28):
would agree most women would hold it up, but no,
I'm definitely not the one holding it up. No, we
had a really good time. I think the future for
us is so we're going in February, We're going to
the Genesis Imitational. We're going to have more outings and
more things coming up event wise. Yeah. I mean even
just in this past year, the events that we had

(15:49):
and that we went to, you know, we went and
covered waste management. That was a total blast. That was
one of our first big tours that we went to.
Um some of the courses that we got to play
this year, like obviously we have our home course, Sand Canyon,
but we played trump. We played Stone Ridge in Arizona, Arizona,
which is, by the way, our favorite course. It was

(16:10):
my favorite course out of all the courses we played
this year. Stone Ridge, which we now have coined Stoner Ridge,
was the most beautiful, incredible course. And I also had
not played in like two weeks and played probably one
of the best games I've ever played, especially on a
new course and paired with people we did not know,
Like that was such a highlight for me. That was.
That was a very interesting course, target practice, very not

(16:33):
a driver on every hole, just dog left rights and lefts,
and it was it was really interesting. Yeah, we've played
in Yeah, we've played in Palm Springs. We go out
every like three months to visit my dad and we
go play golf with him out in Palm Springs. We've
played a bunch of different courses out there many times
with my friends and for birthday parties out in Ventura County.

(16:55):
But one of the coolest highlights for this year for
me personally was elk Cab. I got. I missed out
on this. I got invited to l Cab, which is
here in um. I think it's like Tarzana, California. No
where is it like no Encino, I don't know whatever.
It's a private golf course. Um Darby got us on

(17:17):
his His friend who's a member, his name is Spencer,
was very cordial invited us over. What was so cool
about it is that I got to play with a
caddy I've never played with the first time you've ever
played with a caddy? Right, first time ever. Our caddy's
name was Joey from El Cab. Thank you Joey. Wow.
I mean, it was such an experience. He had to
caddy for Darby, Spencer and I and he was one

(17:40):
caddy for all three of us. He goes down range, Um,
when we hit, he has to identify the ball, where
our balls are at um, He tells us the distance,
he recommends the yardage of the club. Um. When we're putting,
he will be like, put here to the left, and
You're like, no way, Joey, and he's like, just trust me,
and then it will like get Really, you know, I

(18:00):
had an eagle on a Part five because of Joey,
our caddy. He's like, it was like two or twenty
yard shot. He's like, you have to hit it right
between that palm tree and that sandtrap. And sure enough
I did. Goes to watch a role right next to it.
It was like two feet from an albatross. So it
was such an incredible experience to to have a caddy, UM,
to get their knowledge, to find out how cool they were, like,

(18:24):
it just made the experience so neat. Um it felt
cool too to have a caddy because you listen, and
I listened to everything he said, and he says, most
people don't want it, they don't want to be told
or they do want to be told. I like, hey,
he has course knowledge and it totally helped me. So
that was incredible. And one thing about El Cab, the
newest member at El Cab, and I can confirm this

(18:46):
because we went into the locker room was Barack Obama's deal.
Barack Obama was a member at El Cab and I
played that course and I saw his locker locker number
thirty three, and I was like, oh my gosh. And
it was you know, the facilities were in may Eazying.
It had like a full gym saw in a steam
room of full banquet hall, full restaurant. It was an
incredible experience. And if anyone has a chance to play

(19:09):
with the caddy or at a very high end country club,
I highly recommend, Yeah, I want to go do that.
Uh they're what, you know, you came home so high
from that game. I on life, you know, and high
on the fact that it was like, this was the
coolest experience. And when you were telling me about what
it was like to have a caddy, it sounds amazing.
And there's also a part of it to me that
also sounds like it's kind of like cheating is not
the right word, but like if somebody is constantly telling

(19:32):
you where to hit the ball. Like part of what
I love so much about going and playing all the
different courses that we play is that, like it's such
a challenge to figure out, you know, how to how
to play each hole and what you're doing and how
to read the greens and you know, so I would
like to try it because I mean, wouldn't go with
a caddy. You still have to be the hitter of

(19:55):
the bar. Sure, but like look at like when we're
at at stoner Ridge, right, and it's like total target
practice us and like we didn't we had no knowledge
of what you know. We were literally having to study
the map and be like okay, I think this is
what it does, and you know, hope for the best.
And that makes it strategically really fun for me. Like
I like having to figure out, like okay, where do

(20:15):
I need to try and end up so that I'm
not in the ship? Mind you, at stone Ridge stoner Ridge,
we had two members there who were telling us like
this is what the whole was. Yes, yes they played
there before. They weren't members, they'd played there, you know
a little bit. They helped us a little bit like
go hit left left. Yeah, And when we played Trump,

(20:35):
we had members with us. That was you know, close
to having a caddy because they definitely you know, coached
us on where and what to do. That was a
hard course. That was a hard course. Where do we
want to play? Like moving forward for this year, like
what's your bucket list? Where do you want to go?
So obviously I want to play Pebble Beach um this year.

(20:57):
I mean, I would love to play the old course
at St. Andrew's And We've got a lot of those
big aspirations for this year. Um, I would love to
play somewhere in Hawaii, you know. Um, I think more
coastline courses like Monarch Beach. I played there before. That
is really cool just to get a different scenery. Um.

(21:17):
But every course has its charm and I you know,
from you know, Sand Canyon to Incino Balboa, it doesn't matter,
Like I just like being out there. Well, I'm I'm
excited to go play a bunch of other places, you know,
open it up a little bit, all right, Well, here's
two new courses to play in the coming year and

(21:37):
new experiences and I'm sure lots of hilarious stories. If
we keep tracking the way that we've been tracking, why
don't we take a break and when we come back
with to of s Mulligan's alright, so we're back with Mulligans.

(21:59):
So I have wait a minut it, wait a minute,
Wait a minute, it's Mulligan time. It's Mulligan time. Now
we're back with mulligans. I forgot that you have a
Mulligan song. I don't even know if I'm doing this right.
I want to give a very special shout out to

(22:19):
Um Brandon from Hanma golf Um. I started using Hanma
irons Um. It was on that whole Japanese iron kick.
I still on it, but Brandon from Hanmaum hooked me
up with some grips and I bought three sets of
Hanma's um. The t w X is in both graphite

(22:39):
and steel shaft, and then I bought the Hanma Bearris
two Star and the two Star. I didn't notice at
first when I bought it, but they had undersized grips
um for some reason. It's built for a slower swing
speed and elderly gentleman in Japan who you know, don't
have either a big grip or the swing speed Anyways,

(23:01):
I played with these undersized grips and as a result
of it, unfortunately, I got the worst golfer's elbow tennanitis
or whatever you call it in the elbow of my
right arm and I still have that today from about
a month and a half ago. So I had talked
to Brandon and Hanma and he hooked me up with
some oversized grips to put onto my hand my barris.

(23:24):
So I want to thank Brandon for that. I also
along the same path with grips is Harley from Garson Grips.
Garson Grips We've talked about it on the podcast um
Tony Final uses it. I think Michelle we or is
it lydia co I forgot but Garson Grips we have
Harley out there who hooked us up with some Garson

(23:45):
Grips prototypes the new Garson Quad Tour that is not
even out yet, and I have it on my pink
p l D murdered out putter and it works great.
And I just want to thank both Garson and Hanma
and Brandon and Harley from those companies for their excellent
customer service. Um you know, I've been wanting to have

(24:08):
this Mulligan for about two months because I was just
so impressed. And it's not just because we have a podcast,
but they were truly cared about their product and wanted
me to get the right fit, you know, and and
and be happy and continue to play to be happy.
So thank you for those guys, well my Mulligan, I
want to give a shout out to us to you. Obviously,

(24:29):
we started this podcast last year and it's been amazing
and it's been fun. But we're also lucky enough to
get brought onto the eight Side Network, which is a
network that has the top golf podcasts around right now.
It's a partnership that we have with My Heart and
they were big enough to bring us on and feel
like we had a home in golf. So we have

(24:52):
been grateful enough to join a network that is golf
crazy with some of the top golf you know, influencers
in the space. And I'm just so grateful that this
is what we get to do. We get to hang out,
we get to record our podcast, we get to play golf,
we get to meet all these wonderful people, we get
to come in contact with all these amazing brands, and

(25:13):
you know, like I said, in the beginning of our
life is pretty awesome. Yeah. I want to thank our
producer Jason too. Yeah, and this was an awesome opportunity.
So I'm really excited to kick off season two. I
think there's a lot of fun up ahead for all
of us and uh, I can't wait to talk about it.
Where can they find us? No, man, where can they
find us? You can find us on Balls, the Letter,

(25:34):
in Holes, golf. We're on all social media platforms. And
thanks for golfing with me. I love you too, And
here's this season two. Here's Balls and Holes is produced
and distributed by the eight Side Network.
