Speaker 1 (00:15):
Standing on the beach of the Black Sea at midnight,
Emily gazed out at the vast, expanse of water that
stretched before her. The moon cast a silvery glow across
the dark waves, and the distant shimmering lights of the
Russian coastline seemed to twinkle like distant stars. Her heart
pounded with a mixture of anxiety and nostalgia, for this

(00:35):
moment marked the end of a chapter in her life
as a spy. Emily couldn't help but reflect on the
extraordinary journey that had brought her here from the bustling
streets of Moscow to this moment. She knew that her
mission had been successful, but the price had been high.
Her thoughts drifted back to the people she had met,

(00:56):
the friendship she'd made, and the wrists she had taken,
all in the sur of her country. Two years earlier,
Emily had moved to Russia. The year was nineteen eighty five,
in the middle of what was known as the Cold
War between the United States and the Soviet Union. In Moscow,
Emily seemed to live an ordinary life in the busy city,

(01:17):
but she had a secret that set her apart from
everyone else. She was under cover a spy for the
Central Intelligence Agency, the CIA for her native country, the
United States. Emily's mission was to gather important information about
troop movements in Afghanistan, a country that had become a
battleground in the Cold War. Her cover was to live

(01:38):
as if she were a regular Russian citizen while working
within the walls of the Kremlin. The Kremlin was the
most important government and military building in the Soviet Union.
It was extremely top secret. Emily's job was incredibly dangerous,
but she was determined to do whatever it took to
protect her country. Each morning, Momily would rise early, dress

(02:01):
in her finest Russian attire, and head to the Kremlin,
where she worked as a secretary. She used her job
to carefully gather information and pass it along to other
CIA agents, but the Soviet secret police, called the KGB,
were always watching and Emily had to be incredibly careful
not to arouse suspicion. One sunny day, as Emily was

(02:24):
walking back home from work, she couldn't shake the feeling
that someone was following her. She quickened her pace, trying
not to look nervous, but her heart was racing. She
had to come up with a plan to lose her pursuer.
As Emily continued down the crowded streets of Moscow, she
ducked into a bustling marketplace. It was filled with vendors

(02:45):
selling colorful fabrics, fragrant spices, and all sorts of trinkets.
She pretended to browse the goods, all the while keeping
an eye out for the person tailing her. After a
few minutes, Emily spotted a street performerating up nearby. He
had a colorful costume and was preparing to put on
a show. Emily seized the opportunity and slipped some coins

(03:07):
into his hat, then approached him with a brilliant idea.
Can you help me with something? She whispered. The street
performer nodded, and Emily quickly explained her situation. She needed
a distraction to lose the person following her, and the
performer agreed to help. He started a lively dance, drawing
a large crowd of onlookers. Emily used the distraction to

(03:28):
her advantage. She discreetly slipped away from the marketplace. Keeping
to the crowded streets. She changed her route several times,
making it difficult for anyone to follow her. Eventually, she
managed to lose her pursuer and made her way safely
back home. The next day at the Kremlin, Emily's nerves
were still on edge. She knew that being followed on

(03:49):
the streets was a clear sign that her cover was
becoming increasingly risky. She had to be more cautious than ever.
Weeks passed, and Emily continued her life as a spy,
using her wit and creativity to gather information and pass
it on to the other CIA agents without arousing suspicion.
But one fateful day, as she was sipping her tea

(04:10):
during a break at work, a fellow agent named Anton
approached her. Emily. He said, in a hush tone, I've
overheard some news that worries me. I believe someone in
our office may suspect you. Emily's heart sank. She had
always been cautious, but it seemed that her cover was
now in jeopardy. She thanked Anton for the warning and
quickly realized that she needed tacked fast. That night, Emily

(04:34):
gathered all the important documents and information she had collected
over the months. She had to find a way to
get this information back to the CIA before it was
too late. She reached out to her CIA handler. Using
a secret communication method they had established, she sent a
coded message arranging a meeting at the discreet location. They

(04:55):
agreed to meet in a park on the outskirts of Moscow.
As Emily made her way to the meeting spot, she
couldn't help but feel the weight of her mission. She
was determined to protect her country and do her part
in the war in Afghanistan, but the risks had never
been higher. When she arrived at the park, Emily spotted
her CIA handler, Agent Smith, sitting on a park bench

(05:16):
reading a newspaper. They exchanged a few subtle hand signals
to confirm their identities and secretly handed over the documents.
Agent Smith assured her that help was on the way,
but Emily needed to disappear until it was safe. She
knew the KGB would soon realize that their secrets had
been compromised and her cover was in danger. She had

(05:37):
to leave Russia immediately. In the following days, Emily used
her knowledge of the city to elude the KGB. She
moved from safe house to safe house, constantly changing her
appearance and identity, first dark hair and then blonde, different
outfits to throw them off. She relied on her creativity
and quick thinking to stay one step ahead of her pursuers.

(06:00):
But as the net closed in around her, Emily received
a message from the CIA. A daring plan had been
hatched to get her out of Russia. It was a
risky operation, but Emily knew it was her only chance
to escape with her life and the valuable information she
had gathered. One afternoon, Emily used a fake passport to
board a train that took her north to the city

(06:21):
of Saint Petersburg. When she arrived, she looked out the
window of the train and saw KGB agents checking passports
and showing everyone her photo. They were preparing to board
the train. She stood up and hurried through the several
train cars until she reached the end and climbed onto
the tracks. From there, she hurried out of the train
depot and across town towards the coast line. It was

(06:44):
dark now, a moonless night, and the recognizable black cars
of the KGB were searching the streets. Emily hurried out
onto the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, double checking to
make sure that this was the meeting spot they had planned.
She climbed across a rocky beach and two a hidden
cove and stared out at the vast black ocean, waiting. Suddenly,

(07:06):
something dark broke the surface and blinked two times. It
was the submarine that had come to rescue her. Fully clothed,
Emily dove into the cold ocean, pulling her waterproof luggage
along with her. She climbed onto the top of the submarine.
The hatch opened and the captain helped her in and
down a long ladder. Someone threw a large blanket over

(07:26):
her shoulders and handed her a cup of hot coffee.
They took the luggage full of many documents she had
taken from the Kremlin. She breathed a sigh of relief,
knowing she was safe. She also thought about how she
had missed the friends she had made in Russia and
all of the new places and experiences she had become
familiar with. She had spent months living among the people

(07:47):
of Russia, experiencing their culture and way of life. She
had made friends, learn the language, and had come to
appreciate the beauty of that country. The submarine slept beneath
the waves, and Emily imagined the Russian coastline. Dis Hearing
from view. She knew that her mission had been a success,
but it had come at a great personal cost. Emily
was inspired by the bravery of those who had helped her,

(08:09):
and by the knowledge she had played a part in
serving her country.
