Hello friends, are you getting ready for bed?
Let’s make sure we’ve brushed our teeth and washed our hands. Oh and don’t forget your comfy things. Now it’s time for the perfect bedtime story.

About Mr. Jim:

Hi! I'm Jim Jacob, a South Carolina based creator. I started as a podcaster by accident. Our first real episodes on the internet were me trying to find a solution to help tell my sons stories as I was traveling for work. I recorded some stories and hoped that by uploading them to a podcast app, my wife and kids could have easy access to listen. What started as a fix for our family’s bedtime routine interruption has grown into a worldwide audience with hundreds of thousands of listeners. My wife Jocelyn and I have 3 kids and love inspiring others towards greater imagination and curiosity.

Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hello friends, and welcome to bedtime Stories with mister jim O.
I was just getting ready for bed, are you as well?
Oh good, I hope you brushed your teeth and found
all of your comfy things like pillows and blankets and stuffies.

(00:27):
Oh yes, oh good. Well, as long as you have
all those things ready, then it's time for our story.
But first we must close our eyes so that we
can travel to an imaginary world. From Riah's window, she

(00:56):
could see the mountains. Sometimes she saw them and thought
they were you know, they looked good enough to eat.
When the sun was setting and glowing a deep red.
It sat on the mountain top like a cherry topping
a sunday. As the sunset, the cherry slid down the

(01:20):
melty ice cream until it disappeared. In the morning, as
the sun rose in streaks of yellow lit the blue sky.
There were times when the streets splashed across the mountain's
space just right, making her wonder if it were really

(01:41):
a large banana split in the distance. In the winter,
the snow covered mountains looked like dollops of whipped cream,
and in the spring, the mud on the mountain side
could be mistaken for a drizzle of chocolate sauce. Riah
knew these things were just in her imagination, but oh

(02:07):
how she wished they were real. One evening, Riah was
out walking as the sun began to set, that big
red cherry appeared back on top of her favorite mountain.
She was drawn to it, walking closer as it settled

(02:28):
into its place. As she drew nearer, however, things were
not as she expected. Instead of the mountain's features coming
more into focus, it was beginning to look more like
ice cream. The closer she got, she could have sworn

(02:51):
she saw drops of sugary vanilla melting down the sides
of the mountain. Is it really could it be? Riah
kept walking, watching the cherry red sun as it set,
taken up back when the stem of the cherry sun
came into view. Has it really been ice cream all along?

(03:22):
Riah felt a cold chill coming from the base of
the mountain. The brown, muddy color surrounded her and she
reached out to touch it. It was sticky and smooth,
with none of the grittiness of mud. It smelled sweet,
and she tasted it rich thick chocolate sensations bounced around

(03:47):
her tongue. She began to climb the gooey side toward
the snowy white peaks. Riah arrived and scooped a handful,
then taste it without hesitation. Cold, velvety vanilla greeted her.
There was no denying it. Now this wasn't just any

(04:12):
ordinary mountain. This was an ice cream mountain. Riyah continued
trudging through the gouey dessert toward the top. It was cold,
but it smelled so delicious, and curiosity kept her going.

(04:32):
What else would she find? Riah sat down on a
log to catch her breath. Wait, a log, she thought?
Was it a log? Or maybe it was a sprinkle?
Riah stepped back to get a better look. There were

(04:55):
dozens of identical chocolate sprinkles all around her. Riah moved
to peek around the bend and was greeted by a
burst of color. There were more sprinkles on this side, too,
but these ones were rainbow colored. Riah found the perfect

(05:18):
green one to sit and rest. She looked around for
the cherry sun, waiting for it to pass by. After
a few RESTful minutes, Riah spotted the red cherry sliding
past ever so slowly, like an iceberg, making its way
through the sea, Riah headed behind it, not wanting to

(05:42):
stand in its way. The path it was carving through
the vanilla ice cream had revealed a pink core of strawberry.
Using her finger, Riah swiped it through and had a taste.
She went back for a handful and unearthed something multi

(06:04):
colored and squishy. Digging a little bit further more of
the long gummy worm appeared, Riya grabbed hold of it
and pulled. A gummy worm slithered out through the layers
of the chilly dessert. Noticing that the cherry was much

(06:25):
further down the mountain now, Riah set the worm down
in the path and climbed on. The gummy worm zipped
down the strawberry path of the mountain. Following that, cherry
sprinkle logs, chocolate chip hills, and walnut boulders flew past

(06:48):
as the gummy worm whizzled down. The cherry had made
it to the bottom, and Rya slowed down just in
time to avoid the hot fire budge pit it sank
into and disappeared underneath. A slow bubble grew and popped

(07:08):
in the fledge, signaling the end of the cherry slide
down the mountain. Now back at the bottom of the
ice cream mountain, Rayah climbed off the gummy worm and
left to explore the other side. She had never seen
this side. It wasn't visible from her window, and she

(07:31):
wondered what she could find. Would it be a cone
lying on its side, a river, melty ice cream running
into a milkshake lake, more mountains of ice cream in
all different flavors? Could it be? Riah walked in the darkness,

(07:51):
squinting towards the distance. She yawned, suddenly exhausted, her eyes
began to grow heavy, along with her legs. She spotted
a pillowy marshmallow placed perfectly like it was waiting for her,

(08:12):
and it looked so inviting just to quick rest, yoned
Riah as she wandered through it. It was so soft,
so comfy. As she climbed onto its fluffy top, she
curled up and felt herself drifting off to sleep. The

(08:33):
other side of the mountain would have to wait, perhaps
until tomorrow, when a new cherry sun sat high above
the mountaintop. But for now, Riah fell fast asleep. Good night,
my friends, May you all have very sweet dreams.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
