Speaker 1 (00:02):
Then news this hour, I'm Doug Davis coming up. Black.
New York City Mayor Eric Adams is questioning the Working
Class Credentials Assembly members Old ram Meandani. Also, the family
of a civil rights icon honors the death of an
activist daughter whose life was cut short from miss Dray bullet. Plus,
one of the founding members of legendary R and B group,
the Whisperers, has passed. But first, here's bin news. Now.

Speaker 2 (00:24):
While some of today's Supreme Court decisions may seem like setbacks,
some local communities are seeing victories, especially in the area
of the school choice issue. In the midwestern Ohio community
is celebrating a legal win after a county judge ruled
Ohio's ed choice private school voucher program unconstitutional. The ruling
sided with hundreds of districts in the state that filed lawsuits.

(00:44):
Columbus School Board president Michael Cole is pleased that day.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Just was a big win for us. I'm excited about it.

Speaker 2 (00:50):
Cold as African American. The defense for Sean Diddy Combe
says he's being charged for a lifestyle and not a
real crime. Colm's attorneys are delivering their closing arguments at
his sex trafficking trial in New York City. Federal prosecutors
told the jury yesterday to use common sense when trying
to reach a verdict. Colmes faces charges of racketeering, conspiracy,
sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. Stay with

(01:14):
the Black Information Network as we continue to update this story,
and now back to you, Doug all right.

Speaker 1 (01:20):
Thanks. In New York politics, a sharp divide is emerging,
one that not just pitched the left versus moderate, but
about the meaning of class struggle and leadership. Mayor Eric
Adams is calling out as sambling member and Democratic mayoral
candidate Zo Rammandni doubting his working class credentials. Take a
listen to a comment he made about this on Fox
Business dot Com.

Speaker 3 (01:39):
I think what is most troubling about what the socialist
candidate is stating is his calls to give everything away free.
Nothing is more troubling when people who are struggling are
giving promises that individuals can't live up to.

Speaker 1 (01:55):
Adam's add that the mayor does not have power to
raise income taxes, which he says is Man Donnie's basis
for all of the things he plans to pay for.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
Assemblyman's have that power. He's an assemblyman. He didn't do it.
When he was in Aubany, he had the power to
do many of the things he stated. Now he did
not pass one bill. So either he doesn't understand the
role of mayor or he's intentionally misleading people who are
looking for help around the affordability issue.

Speaker 1 (02:22):
Adams recently officially kicked off his reelection campaign, announcing he's
running as an independent. Now on to Jackson, Mississippi. She
was born into a legacy of justice, but the spirit
of twenty three year old African American Kara Perkins Potter
will live on now through a scholarship named in their honor.
The twenty three year old granddaughter of local civil rights
leader doctor John Perkins, was killed in the senseless shooting

(02:44):
in Jackson. WJTV reports Perkins Potter was hit by a
stray bullet while protecting a friend who was involved in
a domestic dispute. My sister is a hero.

Speaker 4 (02:55):
She has always been a sweet person.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
She has always been a kind person. In her honor,
the family has launched a scholarship in the effort to
turn their pain into purpose. Kara's aunt, Elizabeth Perkins.

Speaker 4 (03:07):
This scholarship is called the Kara Perkins Potter Sunshine Scholarship
because Kara was full of life, full of laughter, full
of joy. In every room she walked into, she brought sunshine,
and so in order for her legacy, we wanted to
start this because to and it will go out to

(03:29):
anyone who has those characteristics.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
Reports confirmed that Capitol Police have made an the rest
and connection to the shooting, but the suspect's identity has
not been released. The case is still under investigation. And finally,
as we close out Black Music Month, we honor the
life and legacy of Walter Scott, co founder of the
legendary R and B group The Whispers, who recently transitioned
after a short battle with cancer. Before the Hits, Walter

(03:52):
and his twin brother sang on La Street corners and
together they gave us unforgettable gruves like and the Beat
goes on, rock steady and timeless low jams that still
gets us in the mood. We remember Walter Scott. You
can pull up the iHeartRadio app to hear a dedicated
channel in honor of The Whispers. Stay informed, stay connected,
