Speaker 1 (00:01):
Then News This Hour, I'm Andrea Coleman. Coming up more
from a Black lawmaker on an investigation of Houston's only HBCU,
the latest on civil rights leader Jesse Jackson, who remains
in the hospital, and his daughter shares insights about his
historic run for the presidency. But first, here's BN News Now.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
Outgoing New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who is black,
just designated the Elizabeth Street Garden in Nolita as city parkland,
blocking plans for senior affordable housing there.

Speaker 1 (00:28):
It is no surprise that Mayor Adams is using his
final weeks and months to cement a legacy of dysfunction
and inconsistency incoming.

Speaker 2 (00:36):
Mayor's around mom, Donnie criticized the move, and it's unclear
if he'll seek state approval to move forward. Under Armour
and NBA icon Stuff Curry have ended their thirteen year
partnership effective immediately. Curry keeps full ownership of his Curry
brand and it's now a sneaker free agent. Under Armour
says the splittest part of its focus on rebuilding the
core brand, while Curry says he's excited for a future

(00:56):
centered on growth and supporting the next Generation and Shan
Didy Combs will spend a few extra weeks behind bars
after his release date was pushed from May eight, twenty
twenty eight to June. Fourth Page six did not confirm why,
but it comes after reports of issues with prison officials
and claims he had alcohol in his cell. Allegations did
he denies. I'm Imber Payton with bi in News. Now

(01:16):
back to you, Andrea.

Speaker 1 (01:17):
Thank you. Amber More Now on a story we are
following out of Texas regarding a state ordered investigation of
historically black Texas Southern University. Governor Greg Abbin and Lieutenant
Governor Dan Patrick are ordering the investigation after an audit
of the school's finances reportedly found hundreds of millions of
dollars were paid on invoices that were misdated or to
vendors with expired contracts. I spoke with Texas State Representative

(01:40):
Ron Reynolds yesterday about the situation, which he believes is
about the school's independence.

Speaker 3 (01:45):
I just contient everyone not to rush the judgment until
all the facts come out, because how many times have
we seen the various allegations from President Trump only to
find out that it was no factual basis for just
blaming BI for something to fit a narrative, and this
narrative that they're planning out would fit their motive to
place TSU under a another system, So that is my concern.

(02:11):
I'm looking forward to seeing where the fact lead and
then going from there. But right now I'm de banding transparency.

Speaker 1 (02:19):
For those chairs the state's legislative HBCU caucus and is
calling for an independent investigation. He is also a TSU graduate.
A civil rights leader, Reverend Jesse Jackson remains in the
hospital in Chicago at this hour. According to a statement
by the Rainbow Push Coalition, Jackson was admitted for observation
as he continues to manage progressive supernuclear Palsy, a neurodegenitive

(02:40):
disorder he has lived with for the past decade. Originally
diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. In April of this year, the
group confirmed Jackson's condition as PSP.

Speaker 3 (02:49):
Well.

Speaker 1 (02:50):
Last year, I had the pleasure of speaking with Reverend
Jackson's daughter, san Tita. During our conversation, she talked about
her father's decision to run for president in nineteen eighty.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Four, andrew young or major Jackson to do it because
he said they are more mainstream. And even though my
father had become President Carter chief surrogate in nineteen eighty,
he was too unpopular to leave the White House to
campaign for himself. And they were shocked at the number
of people that Reverend was able to draw. My father,
who was with the proposition, he said, doesn't have to

(03:20):
be me. As a matter of fact, he said, I'm
doing everything for.

Speaker 3 (03:23):
The American public.

Speaker 4 (03:24):
But you all have been mayors of Atlanta, Andy, You've
been the un ambassador polished. I mean, look, you are
like the dream candidates. Major Jackson had just gotten married
and they just had a child, and he said, no,
I got to make some money for my family, because
you don't make money in public like and uncle lady
just said, Jesse, here you go again.

Speaker 2 (03:44):
No.

Speaker 4 (03:45):
So by this time the people were saying, well, because
he put their names out there, they said, no, we
want you to run. Run, Jesse run. That's where that
came from. Oh.

Speaker 1 (03:54):
Reverend Jackson did run and made history, becoming the first
black candidate to run for a major party nomination. He
also brought millions of new voters into the process. We
will continue to monitor his condition and bring you any
new developments as they become available. Stay informed, stay connected
and subscribed. Follow BI in news as hour, wherever you

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
