Welcome to your midweek Memo on the Black Information Network
Daily Podcast with Me Rams's Jaw and I Am q.
Speaker 3 (00:24):
Ward all Right. First Up.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
A group of California Republican lawmakers opted to join President
elect Donald Trump at mar Lago over the weekend as
the Los Angeles wildfires continued to devastate the city. According
to reports, Trump met with House Republicans at Explorida Resort
throughout the weekend and promote unity within the party and
strategized the best way to advance his tax and immigration agenda.
(00:49):
Trump's meetings with state representatives come after he convened with
GOP senators on Capitol Hill last week. The President elect
is reportedly trying to garner support from different factions of
the party as he attempts to craft a massive legislative
package to advance his political priorities. Several meetings were reportedly
held at mar A Lago with GOP lawmakers from New York,
(01:11):
New Jersey, and California. The California House delegation is spacing
backlash for reportedly fleeing the state to join Trump as
Los Angeles residents are seeking aid and support amid the
wildfires that have left at least sixteen dead. I think
the number is higher now, thousands under evacuation orders and
countless properties burn. With the exception of David Valadeo, who
(01:33):
voted to impeach Trump after the January sixth Capitol riots,
the California House delegation, including Representative ja Obernault, Tom McClintock,
Kevin Kylie, Doug LaMalfa, darryl Issa Kim Calvert, Vince Pong,
and Young Kim, were all pictured with the President elect
over the weekend, per Midas Touch News. So you know,
(01:57):
I've been hearing about this. The elected representatives of California
are surprisingly absent, conspicuously absent when you have you know,
rappers and celebrities and volunteers, and you know firefighters coming
(02:19):
from other countries, from Canada, from Mexico of all places,
from Africa, right from Ukraine, and you know, the elected
representatives from California. Are you know, rubbing shoulders with Trump,
and to me, it shows that, you know, when it
(02:41):
comes to the GOP, it really is Trump's party, it
really is. You know, the people elected these individuals, but
when the people need them, they are with Donald Trump
trying to get their photo op or trying to kiss
the ring or whatever it is that they're doing down
there to try to support whatever Trump is on instead
(03:04):
of supporting the people that put them in those positions.
Speaker 1 (03:07):
I mean, we knew this maga over everything. And since
Trump has made California's democratic leadership his enemy in the
state of California his enemy, his cronies who just so
happened to be elected by those same citizens in California
have also decided they are going to ride with him
(03:27):
MAGA over even the people that elected me to office.
And you know, the GOP has shown us kind of
habitually now that they're more concerned about themselves than their constituents.
They care more about what comes with being an elected
official than actually doing the work for the people who
elected them. So it's it's not surprising, it's and it's
(03:48):
shameless at this point. You know, they used to try
to be inconspicuous with things like this now, as the
people that elected them are suffering more than some of
them ever have in their lifetime, they go to the
resort with Trump and they call it meetings, but they're
going to hang out, rub shoulders and be on a resort,
(04:09):
drinking and.
Speaker 2 (04:10):
Getting close and trying to get their get their name
next to like I said, kiss the ring, I mean,
how's do you say? This next story, which is also
from the Black Information Network, I think further it illuminates
just how far the GOP has come from the GOP
(04:34):
that I think that we all grew up with in
this country. Republican lawmaker threatened Representative Jasmine Crockett, the Democrat
from Texas, during a heated exchange on the House floor,
asking the Democrat if she wanted to quote take it outside.
During a House hearing on Tuesday, January fourteenth, Crockett urged
her colleagues to re establish a subcommittee on civil rights
(04:56):
and took aim at Representative Nancy Mace's, the Republican from
South Carolina, rhetoric about transgender people.
Speaker 3 (05:02):
Quote.
Speaker 2 (05:03):
I can see that somebody's campaign coffers really are struggling
right now. So Mace is going to keep saying trans
trans trans trans so people will feel threatened and child listen,
Crockett said, I am no child. Do not call me
a child. I am no child. Mace responded. Committee chair
James Comer, the Republican from Kentucky, attempted to call for
order before Mace challenged Crockett to take it outside. If
(05:26):
you want to take it outside, we can do that,
Mace told Crockett. Representative Maxwell Frost, the Democrat from Florida,
came to Crockett's defense, saying Mace had incited violence against her. However,
Comer ruled that Mace's remarks weren't a call to violence,
arguing that the Republican lawmaker could have been asking Crockett
to go outside for a cup of coffee or perhaps
a beer. Following the incident, Mace defended her actions on
(05:49):
social media, saying her remark didn't mean she wanted to
fight the Democratic lawmaker.
Speaker 3 (05:53):
Quote.
Speaker 2 (05:54):
Let me be clear, I wanted to take the conversation
off the Florida have a more constructive conversation, not to
fight at no pot was there any intention of causing
harm to anyone unquote, she tweeted, and an ex post,
Crockett said she had been threatened and called Mace an
attention seeking loser. She goes on to say, last I checked,
threatening members in a committee room doesn't exactly reduce the
(06:14):
cost of eggs. So you know, you said something before
we got into this story that I thought was quite potent.
You asked me to, like, imagine if Jasmine Crockett was
the one that suggested to take it outside quote unquote,
(06:34):
but instead it was Representative Mace, a white woman.
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yeah, and Kentucky's Republican Representative James Comer. If Representative Crockett
would have been the one inviting someone outside, definitely would
not have given the bail or the escape route of
maybe she's asking her out covered coffee or a beer,
because silly Black people, of course, are more prone to
(07:01):
violence and are by nature criminal people. Of course, Congressman
Crockett would have meant it in a different way.
Speaker 2 (07:08):
But and they would have called her all kind of thugs.
Speaker 1 (07:10):
And yeah, it's pretty disgusting, but once again, it's on brand,
Like none of this surprises me anymore. It's what the
Republican Party has come. And the thing that troubles me
the most is that he can say things like she
may have been asking her out for coffee or beer
in a serious tone, insulting the people even that elected him.
(07:34):
But I guess it's not insulting when you can lie
to them through their faces and they'll believe it.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
This is your midweek memo on the Black Information Network
Daily Podcast with your hosts Rams's Jaw and q Ward
all Right, next step. Former First Lady Michelle Obama is
declining to attend President elect Donald Trump's inauguration on Tuesday,
January fourteenth. The office of Baraka Michelle Obama confirmed that
the former president would attend Trump's inauguration on Monday, January twentieth,
(08:03):
while the former First Lady would skip the event. Percyon
in quote, former President Barack Obama is confirmed to attend
the sixtieth inaugural ceremonies. Former First Lady Michelle Obama will
not attend the upcoming inauguration. A statement from the office
reads the Obama's team declined to offer an explanation for
the former First Lady's decision not to attend the event.
(08:28):
Michelle Obama also didn't attend a memorial service for former
President Jimmy Carter at the National Cathedral in Washington. Former
President Barack Obama was president at the event and sat
next to Trump, who he appeared to have a friendly
conversation with. All five living presidents and other former first ladies,
including Hillary Clinton and Laura Bush, attended Carter's funeral services.
Former President George W. Bush and his wife have also
(08:49):
confirmed they will attend Trump's inauguration along with the Clintons.
So to this, you know, I say, Michelle Obama, it
might be a scheduling comment, it might be something you know,
who knows what it is.
Speaker 3 (09:11):
But even if it's.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
The worst thing that those on the right that are
kind of behind the fans flaming this headline into like
the sensational news moment that it is. Even if they're right,
and she's simply just skipping it because she doesn't want
to be around Donald Trump, I say, you know, black
(09:36):
women have given enough.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
It's okay.
Speaker 2 (09:39):
And Michelle Obama is a black woman, that is, she's
fought with us, she is, you know, And if she
needs a break, if she needs to she wants to
sit one out, I say, that's that's fine.
Speaker 1 (09:49):
Well, something her husband is still going something conspicuously missing
from these headlines, and we're missing from the headlines at
the last inauguration as well, and as that former President
Trump not at Joe Biden's inauguration that didn't make headlines.
It's not something that's even being brought up. Now.
Speaker 3 (10:06):
There are two sets of rules, man.
Speaker 1 (10:08):
It's very obviously two sets of rules. And once again,
just not wanting to be around Donald Trump is a
good enough reason for anybody, Jill to just not be there.
Speaker 3 (10:17):
Grab them by the well anyway.
Speaker 1 (10:19):
Yeah, any woman should be okay with not wanting to
be in the presence of an adjudicated rapist. But you know,
I'll move on. It also mentioned in this article that
you know, former President Barack Obama was seen having a
friendly conversation with Donald Trump, And I see people are
very polarized on this topic. And I can understand why
because from both sides you can kind of get the point.
(10:42):
When President Obama was was in office, a lot of
black people were disappointed at his lack of decidedly and
exclusively black legislation. Right the way that Donald Trump showed
up and just did what was best for him and
his friends, That's how people expect Barack Obama to show
up for black people to get in office and push
(11:04):
forward all of the agendas that we had been fighting
so hard for our whole lives, and instead he was
more just a president for everyone. And I can get
how that's disappointing the people, because everyone's been a president
for quote unquote everyone. Everyone's been a president that showed
(11:25):
up for white people and their agendas and the way
that this country was built in all of its institutions
and laws that have been put into place, you know,
for liberty and justice. For some, they expected him to
be the black Donald Trump, to show up and just
do what was best for us and us only, and
he elected not to be that type of president. So
(11:47):
seeing him sit down and chum it up with someone
that we all know to be despicable, who he hasn't
spoken highly of, and who the party has hailed as
a fascist, who some have compared to Adolf Hitler confusing
when you see him not just sit and be polite,
but laugh and chum it up with somebody who we
know isn't a decent human being. You know, it's like, wow,
(12:09):
not Arrapah. But again, what are you supposed to do
at the funeral of a former president who was a
more than decent human being? And when you're the person
who has to sit next to Donald Trump with all
the cameras on you, right, it's damned if I do,
Damn if I don't. If you're Obama in that situation,
if he's root in any way or impolite, they're gonna
(12:32):
dig into all the stereotypes they throw at black man
throughout history, right. And some would argue there's a way
to be polite without seeming so happy about it, But again,
I think that's just a very difficult thing to try
to choose in real time when you're trying to be
the best version of yourself and pay respects to a
president that just passed away.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
You know, there's there's something to be said about Obama.
You and I got a chance to go and see
him speak, and he had, you know, quite a bit
to say about Donald Trump, and.
Speaker 3 (13:09):
And rightfully so.
Speaker 2 (13:10):
I mean he was in behalf of Kamala Harris and
naturally in in those conversations that he was having, you know,
he had to you know, share his true opinions on
Donald Trump and motivate people to get out and vote.
(13:34):
And then you know, later fast forward a few months
to see him sitting next to the person and kind
of chumming it up. Feels like have we all been
tricked to? You know, there's there's that feeling that kind
of creeps in. But what I say to that is
that I believe Obama to be a person who vibrates
(13:56):
at a certain frequency. You got to stick with me here, Okay.
I believe myself. I believe that I'm kind of like
one of those type of people too. And you know,
for me, I think that I'm generally speaking, a happy person.
Generally speaking, I get along well with people. That's when
(14:20):
I reset, I reset to, Okay, what is is? What
is the thing I can say or do that brings
the most joy into the moment? And I think that,
you know, left to my own devices, that's just kind
of where I'll find myself spiritually.
Speaker 3 (14:38):
Right.
Speaker 2 (14:38):
So, if Obama is anything like me, which I believe
him to be, he's naturally going to be a charismatic person.
He's naturally going to be a funny person. And if
you exchange two or three sentences with him, he's bound
to say something clever, something witty, something that just comes
out of him. Right, as you mentioned, if he's sitting
sitting next to Donald Trump, because of the order of
(15:01):
their presidencies. They sit in a certain order, and Donald
Trump initiates any conversation or you know, whatever something comes
up or something you know, they both have to scoot anything,
and a common is made just exchanging human pleasantries with
a human being that you're close enough to, not that
you've chosen to sit next to, but just so it's
(15:22):
not strong beef in the air. You might say words
and communicate to a person that you've communicated with before.
To be fair, if your personality comes out in any way,
I think that's more of a function of just who
you are as a human being than you secretly liking
(15:44):
this dude on the low or whatever. You're there with
all the cameras on you, so you can't just beef
out with this dude. And if you're just are being
as pleasant as you know how to be, just to
get through this funeral service, it might appear as though
to those of us on the outside watching the exchange,
(16:04):
like why are they laughing?
Speaker 3 (16:06):
Why are they trumping it up?
Speaker 2 (16:07):
You know what I mean? But I think that it
might just simply be his that's just who he is
as a human being.
Speaker 1 (16:13):
I think a good example was George W. Bush sat
on the other side of Barack Obama again in the
order that they were presidents, and Barack Obama provided a
great shield for George W. Bush to not have to
interact with Donald Trump at all, and they are both
Republican presidents. I don't think George W. Bush is an
(16:33):
indecent person who was beefing with Trump and wanted to
insult him. But if I don't have to interact with
this dude, I won't except Barack Obama is sitting seated,
I'm sorry, directly next to.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Him, so he had so you know, that's just how
it goes, all right, for our final story. Also from
the Black Information Network, a white supremacist group has been
ordered to pay millions to a black musician who was
the target of an apparent racist attack in Boston. Per
News One, on Monday, January thirteenth, U S. District Judge
Indira Tawani found the Patriot Front and its leader Thomas
(17:06):
Russo liable for the twenty twenty two attack against Charles
Murrell the Third, who was punched, kicked, and hit with
racist language while on his way to play the saxophone
at a Boston public library. The Patriot Front was ordered
to pay two million dollars in punitive damages in seven
hundred and fifty five thousand dollars in damages for Mural's injuries,
pain and suffering, lost wages, and future earnings. The verdict
(17:28):
came after Mural filed a federal lawsuit against the white
supremacist group following the twenty twenty two attack. While walking
up to the Boston Public Library, Mural encountered members of
the Patriot Front participating in a flash march where they
were carrying signs that read Reclaim America. Video footage showed
Patriot Front members pinning Mural against the light post and
pushing him into the busy road to promote the view
(17:51):
that non white individuals like Mural should be subordinated to
white people, Taiwani wrote in her twenty seven page decision.
Mural said the group called him tar baby during the
attack and shouted other epithets that immediately let me know
I was possibly in danger. According to him, goes on
to say I thought I was going to die. None
(18:11):
of Murall's attackers have been criminally charged. On Monday, Mark
Morris Moran, a spokesperson for the Boston police said an
investigation into the incident is still active and open. So
this one was I mean, it was good, the positive
(18:31):
outcome kind of.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
You know.
Speaker 2 (18:35):
The one dark cloud that hangs over this story and
stories like this now is that there is the capacity
to appeal you know, court decisions, and we know that
the highest court in the land, if you can.
Speaker 3 (18:55):
Appeal it up that far, is.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Openly biased and artificially stacked to not only reflect a
conservative mindset, but a decidedly maga mindset. And you know,
the sad part about it is that, you know, going
into a new administration where two more justices will retire
(19:23):
and be replaced by two younger justices that are likely
to be maga minded individuals as well, will ensure that
meaningful legislation and you know, lawsuits like these and others.
There's the ultimate get out of jail free card. If
(19:43):
we can get this in front of the Supreme Court.
You know, there's six justices there of the nine that
will not allow this to happen, will not allow us
to have to pay for the crimes that we've committed
against in this case. You know, a black man, but
(20:08):
you know there's you know, I was watching a video.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
It's called the Black Power Mixtape.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
And there was a just a passing common in the video,
in the in the documentary, and there's a gentleman. This
might have been in the sixties, but there was footage
of him and he's like, you know, a black man
can't get no justice in America. And he was talking
about like the political climate back in the sixties, you know,
back during the Civil Rights movement, when people were fighting
(20:37):
so that black people could overcrumb, you know, Jim Crow,
and you know segregation and all the things that kind
of prevented, you know, prosperity and equity in this country.
But those words ring true today now with the Supreme
Court the way that it is, and that's what casts
the dark shadow over this story because it's like, you know,
(21:00):
if these people can afford to keep this tied up
and run it all the way up to the Supreme Court, indeed,
that sentiment rings true. How can a black man get
any justice in this country now?
Speaker 1 (21:13):
If they can afford to pay what the judge said
they have to, now they can afford to get it,
then they can afford to get it going to court,
and thank God for video, or they'd be no accountability.
Here there was this black man who got jumped by
a white supremacist group, his word against theirs, he'd have
(21:34):
no shot. Thank god for video, so that there is
some sense of accountability and there is a record that
these guys were found guilty of a crime, and a
civil sense at least, because there's no criminal charges even
being brought forth, which is crazy. You'd think, you know,
some state Massachusetts institution would take up serving these guys,
(21:55):
and you know they're being a criminal case of the
video of them being someone and hailing racist insults at them.
But here we are, and as Ram just said, our
highest court is openly compromised now, flagrantly and flatly corrupt.
You know, it's a it's a it's a sad time
(22:17):
to be a black American right now, and we have
to make sure we don't live there. We've had a
brief visit with this sad time. Now we got to
equip ourselves to figure out a way out of this.
Speaker 2 (22:32):
