Speaker 1 (00:05):
This is the Black Information Network Daily podcast, and I
am your host Ramsey's job. And sometimes the amount of
stories that make their way to us means that we
simply can't cover everything that comes our way. But from
time to time, a story just stays with me, and
I feel compelled to share it with you and give
you my thoughts.

Speaker 2 (00:22):
And now one more thing for those that don't know.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
I come from a decidedly hip hop background. My older
brother is Raka Irish science of the hip hop band
Dilated People's and I was born in Compton, California in
the eighties. My first job out of college, I started

(01:01):
working at a hip hop radio station, and I later
became a DJ and owner of a night club. And
so I like to think that hip hop has absolutely
shaped my life. And one of the most quintessential pieces

(01:23):
of advice that is kind of built into hip hop
culture is keep it real, keep it all the way real, right,
And so I like to think that I keep it real.
I've transitioned a bit, obviously. I do this show now

(01:47):
and I do my radio show Civic Cipher. I talk
about heavy subjects. I don't talk about rappers and who's
dating who or what street beefs are happening, or giveaway
tickets or any of that stuff anymore. Talk about things
that really shape lives beyond just entertainment stories. But you know,
still I keep it real. There's something I'm talking about

(02:13):
on this show. I mean what I say. I feel
something when I'm on civic cipher. I let those feelings
be known, and I hope that that authenticity has factored

(02:36):
into my being able to do this fantastic work. For
such a long time, I fought against the label, but
you know, I kind of come to accept that I'm
a journalist. Now I'm a political pundit. I am a

(03:02):
media personality, and as a result, authenticity really matters. So
today we want to talk about people who more or
less do the same job pundits it, you know, other
personalities that work in this space who are inauthentic. I'm

(03:28):
going to share a little bit with you From MSN
dot com. Ryan Stelter has caused to stir with his
recently pinned expose of Fox News called Network of Lies,
The epic Saga of Fox News, Donald Trump, and a
Battle for American Democracy, picking up from the controversial lawsuit
that the network had to face against dominion. The book

(03:49):
unveiled shocking facts from inside Fox. The host of the
network who remain at the center of it all, are
the main focus of Stelter as he traced Foxes ups
and downs through the popularity of its faces, but he
went on to empathize with them, saying that they are
mainly trying to make money off of it. In a
recent interview with Pointer related to his book, Stelter mused

(04:11):
that while conservative hosts might seem serious about their far
right leaning politics, it's merely a way to make money. Quote.
For most, it's just a job, not a calling. Goes
on to say, Some producer and director types truly believe
in the Trump agenda and will stop at nothing to
see him reelected, but most are just trying to make

(04:32):
good TV. They definitely aren't losing sleep about Fox's coarsening
of the culture or Trump's brainwashing of the base. Now,
for a person like me who understands the significance of
having a platform, responsibility that comes with having a platform,

(04:54):
that understands how you're able to shape the optics of
a narrative and how people can assume it's in pieces
of information and their reactions and their potential reactions to
that information. I can say as a journalist, as a
political pundit that this inside Fox News is extremely irresponsible

(05:20):
to turn the blind eye to the widening division in
this country, to in fact participate in furthering that divide
because you are making money off of it and everyone
else is putting the bill. There's a terrible, terrible thing
to do. That's a terrible that's almost on part of

(05:42):
the crime against humanity. So shame on Fox News, and
shame on all these names, Janine Piro, Tucker Carlson, all
those folks that work at Fox News that dig up
the most disgusting filth that the Internet could possibly serve
up and spew it to a base desperate for something

(06:10):
that upholds their worldview that they are centered and everything
revolves around them, and if it's not that way, these
are the reasons why these are the people responsible for it.
There's a concerted effort.

Speaker 3 (06:25):
To replace white people by Jews.

Speaker 1 (06:30):
All these bizarre conspiracies that exist. People sincerely believe because
there's a platform within their minds, a degree of credibility
that is parroting again the most vile, most basic of

(06:52):
conspiracy theories that the Internet has to offer. That's why
it costs Fox almost eight hundred million dollars in the lawsuit,
and they should have paid more before everything is over.
It's not unlikely that they will. So what does this mean? Well,

(07:16):
on this show we talk about Well, I talk about
some of the black pundits that are paid handsomely to
be the dissenting black voice, to be the black voice
that helps white people feel better about their racism and

(07:36):
the ideas that they have that are based in racist
interpretations of the world and society. So if we know
that black people will sell us out so that they
can make money, it's not beyond the scope of possibilities
that white folks would do it too. From what I've heard,

(08:00):
the more contentious a speaker is, the further right a
speaker is, and the better the speaker is able to
attack liberal ideas, liberal beliefs, etc. You know, their speaking
fees can be three to four times as much. I
learned that from d O. E. J. Wilson, the man

(08:22):
who went underground as a white supremacist and did a
TED talk about it. Fascinating individual and who just got
some game. It's like, Yo, the bag over there is
different you're trying to help people. You can make some money,
you know, sure, you can have a career, you can
take care of your family. But if you're willing.

Speaker 3 (08:43):
To spew the filth that these powerful and wealthy individuals
want you to spew, oh three four times as much money.

Speaker 1 (08:55):
And now we see on full display for everyone ton
soon that Fox News has been at this. And the
crazy part about it is, yeah, they'll pay some money,
but we'll be honest, they can afford it, and yeah,
they'll clean up their practices a little bit. Sure, we'll
play nice, but the damage is done. Damage is done,

(09:25):
and you know who has to pay for that. We do.
We're stuck holding the real bill, the bill that ensures
that we have to live in a world where there's
a little bit less less in the way of empathy,
a little bit less in the way of understanding of
our plight, the plight of our children, what we're really
up against, indeed, our own history, to provide the context

(09:49):
of our current status and standing, so that we know
how to remedy the things that ail and plague our community.
And we're fighting battles not just there, not just in schools,
not just in the workplace, there's a tax on DEI
you know that, But there's a tax everywhere else too,

(10:13):
criminal justice system, environment environmental racism. We're still dealing with
the effects of the War on drugs, judicial sentencing. You know,
we have not been compensated for the massive amounts of
land theft from black people, not been compensated for the

(10:35):
the redlining that has denied us the amount of wealth
necessary to have an equitable go in this society. And now,
oh and that list goes on, by the way. But now,
because again Fox News and these pundits that don't really
mean what they say have widened the gap between us.

(10:58):
While they're laughing all the way to the bank, we're
stuck paying the real cost for that. So I say
that to say that I appreciate you tuning in. That
really matters to me. And I want you to know
once again that if you're listening to me, I'm going

(11:19):
to keep it real as always. You're free to chime in.
