Heaven Down number seven at gmail dot com. I just

(00:45):
received this email from PJ and he says, my name
is Paul from Anoka, and I was just curious if
you could go over and elaborate on the Ten Commandments. Please.
I love the show and listen every day. Thank you, Tim, Paul.

(01:06):
I am not going to be discussing the Ten Commandments
right now, but I will soon. I see your email,
I hear you, and that is a great conversation and
podcast topic to discuss very very soon, so I will
do that in the near future. But today I want

(01:28):
to talk about a topic that entered my mind over
the weekend. And there's so many phrases out there that
aren't necessarily biblical. And one of the phrases I thought
of earlier was you do you? You be the best

(01:52):
version of yourself. You do you. I've been guilty of
saying that word to other people. If some people say, oh,
they do this or they do that, and I'll respond,
but the well, you do you. But we really need
to be careful with the phrase you do you, because

(02:19):
we are naturally sinful people that should not necessarily follow
our instinctual desire to sin. So the phrase you do
you do what's best for you isn't biblical. And the

(02:43):
verse that comes to mind is found in Romans chapter eight,
verses thirteen. For if you live according to the flesh,
you will die. But if by the spirit you put
to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.
And when we tell others, hey, you do you, you've

(03:08):
got to be very careful because what they are doing
might not be biblically accurate, because the desires of the
flesh are against the desires of the spirit. This is
what it says in Galatians chapter five, verses seventeen through

(03:28):
twenty one. For the desires of the flesh are against
the spirit, and the desires of the spirit are against
the flesh. For these are opposed to each other, to
keep you from doing the things you want to do.
So we are to lean on the spirit to keep
us from doing the things that we naturally want to do.

(03:52):
And when we tell others to you be you or
you do you, we are telling them to basically live
by the desires of the flesh and not by the spirit.
We are to die to the flesh every single day,

(04:12):
to put aside the things of this world, to put
aside the things of the flesh. And the verses continue.
In verse eighteen, it says, but if you are led
by the spirit, you were not under the law. The
acts of the flesh are obvious sexual immorality, impurity, debackery,
idolatry and witchcraft, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions,

(04:40):
factions and envy, drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you,
as I did before, that those who lived like this
will not inherit the Kingdom of God. So our goal
should not to do what we do or just to
be us. Our goal should be to live according to

(05:01):
the Spirit every single day. Thank you for choosing Jesus
today and I hope this was encouraging for you, and
I hope the Holy Spirit revealed more and more about
our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
