(00:21):
Monday through Friday. I'm so excited to continue this journey
of revealing more and more about Jesus Christ as our
Lord and Savior, with Easter being on Sunday. Yesterday I
talked about the joy that we should exude because of
(00:41):
the Resurrection three hundred and sixty five days a year,
and now during the rest of the week, I want
to discuss and share really some of my favorite topics
about the Christian and faith. I personally love to dive
(01:04):
into the evidence that proves the Resurrection to be true
because I have questions that need answers. I have had doubts,
and when I look at the evidence of the resurrection
(01:25):
and the proof that the Resurrection actually happened, it cures
all my doubts and wipes them out. So during this week,
I want to run through the evidence of the resurrection
with you because it's substantial and it's very cool because
(01:51):
if you have not read these before or heard about them.
There is a lot and hopefully it's as encouraging for
you as it is every single year for me, because
I look at these every single year right around Resurrection Sunday,
(02:12):
and every single year it encourages me, it inspires me,
and it gives me even more hope. So thank you
for going on this podcasting journey alongside with me, where
the Holy Spirit reveals more and more about our Lord
and Savior, Jesus Christ. And hold on to that steering wheel,
(02:35):
grab your favorite drink or a cup of coffee, and
let's bring Heaven a little closer together. So, as I said,
(03:00):
from now until the rest of the week, we are
going to look at the evidence of the resurrection, because
I've had students in our youth ministry come up to
me before and ask, how do we know the resurrection
is true? What is the evidence that this is not
(03:22):
just some made up story? So I did research. I
found evidence that defended the truth that we believe. So
let's talk about it. One quick thing though, before we
dive into the evidence of the resurrection. When Jesus died
on the cross, when he took his final breath, the
(03:47):
curtain of the temple was torn in two. And there's
a very important detail. It says, from top to bottom.
And after that important detail happened. The centurion watching Jesus
die on the cross has a very important quote. He says,
(04:13):
surely this was the son of God. Now, the tearing
of the curtain from top to bottom at the moment
of Jesus's death dramatically symbolized that his sacrifice, the shedding
of his own blood, was sufficient for our sins. It
(04:37):
also signified that now the way into the Holy of
Holies was open for all people. Because what you had
to do in the past was you had a sacrifice
the land. The high priests would go into the holies
of Holies, and that's the way that you had to
ask for repentance. That was the old covenant. Jesus is
(04:59):
the new covenant. Jesus is the new Temple, the new
most holy place, with no curtain barring us from intimacy
with him. We all can have intimacy with Jesus. And
that's the pathway that he created when he died on
(05:20):
the cross. And there are some theories that it was
an earthquake that caused the temple to tear from top
to bottom, but an earthquake would have torn the temple
from the bottom to the top. But because it was
torn from the top to the bottom, it became clear
(05:41):
that God himself tore the temple. So let's dive into
evidence number one, because there are numerous theories out there
from skeptics, from people that don't believe in Jesus, and
they come up with these different ideas of why it
(06:01):
didn't actually happen or why Jesus did not actually raise
from the dead, And theory number one is did Jesus
really die? There's people out there that believe that Jesus
did not actually die. Some say that he drifted into
a coma from the pain and woke up in the
(06:22):
tomb later on, somehow moved a two thousand foot rock
by himself. I guess he is God, so he does
have the power to do so if he really wanted
to and just walked out of the tomb by himself.
But there is legitimate evidence that Jesus really did die
on the cross. In John chapter nineteen, verses thirty four
(06:44):
says before they took Jesus's body down from the cross,
the Roman soldiers stuck a spear into his side. Once
they pierced the skin, a mixture of water and blood
came out. This mixture indicates heart failure, which should be
(07:04):
enough proof to anyone that Jesus was in fact dead.
And here's the punch to the nuts. Roman soldiers were
trained killers. If they had failed in their duty to
execute someone, they would be held liable, likely at the
(07:28):
cost of their own life. So you think about what
was at stake for the Roman soldiers. It wasn't a
national championship, it wasn't a title, it wasn't a victory
in some sports event. It was their own lives. If
(07:51):
they failed at their responsibility to kill Jesus or anyone
on the cross for that matter, it was likely that
they would be killed themselves. So they were going to
go through every single measure to make sure that these
(08:16):
people that were dying on the cross actually died. Plus,
they were trained killers, this is what they were taught
and trained to do. So the question of did Jesus
really die in that cross, the answer is clear. The
(08:39):
mixture that came out of Jesus indicated heart failure, and
the Roman soldiers were trained killers, and if they did
not kill Jesus, because remember, the people chose Jesus to
die over Barabbas, and if Jesus did not actually die,
(09:07):
then these Roman soldiers were goners. To me and to you,
that should be viewed as legitimate evidence to destruct the
theory that Jesus never really died. I've got plenty more
(09:29):
to talk about through the course of this week. Tomorrow.
The theory that we are going to debunk is was
the tomb always empty? Was Jesus's body never actually in
the tomb? Because there are theories about that, So we're
(09:54):
going to dive into it and we're going to talk
about it tomorrow on Bring Heaven Down. Hit that follow
button wherever you're listening to this podcast. I hope that
this podcast is encouraging you and uplifting you and answering
questions or doubts that you may have had. And I
(10:16):
pray that through the Holy Spirit, more and more is
being revealed about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Everyone
have a great day.
