Speaker 1 (00:07):
Hi everyone, I'm Rachel Ze and you're listening to Climbing
in Heels for your weekly dose of glamour, inspirations and
of course fun. We're coming to you this week with
an early release episode talking about fashion's biggest night, the
Met Gala. I was able to join the E News
team to share some of my favorite looks from the evening,
but of course I wanted to share them with my

(00:28):
pod listeners too, So let's jump right in.

Speaker 2 (00:32):
For everybody listening to Climbing and Heels. As you may
or may not know, the lovely Rachel Zoe joined the
team over at E News and did a little roundup
of some of her favorites of the MAT Gala red carpet.
We of course wanted to share it on our pod
as well. So Rachel, do you want to jump into
a little bit about the theme of last night? And

(00:53):
kind of like the general vibes we were seeing.

Speaker 1 (00:55):
The theme of the mat Gala this year was Sleeping Beauty,
the reawakening of fashion. So I think the thing that's
important to note about the Met Ball is that there's
always a theme and people interpret that theme in a
myriad of ways, and so I think everyone felt that

(01:17):
this would be tons of ethereal and got to see
and you know, very sleeping beauty. But I think a
lot of people took the dark side.

Speaker 2 (01:27):
To it, you know, a dark fairy tale.

Speaker 3 (01:30):
Yeah, a dark fairy tale.

Speaker 1 (01:31):
Like as we kept saying yesterday, it was sort of
like the Aurora versus the Maleficent.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Right, yes, you know.

Speaker 2 (01:40):
Which that kicks us right off? We should jump right in.
A woman who took the dark side not only once
but twice on the carpet was Zinndaea.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Yes, yeah, indeed, the first.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Look was really incredible, and I feel like because she
was co chair and because she arrived and walked the
carpet in her first looked early, it really kind of
like set the tone and changed how everybody was thinking
about the theme. I think initially people thought it was
going to be like.

Speaker 4 (02:09):
All floral, all pastel, all very wispy, delicate fabric and
all of that, and I think booms and daya hit
the carpet and it was like, hold on, we didn't
think like three sixty of the theme and there is
this dark side of this spring awakening, which was really
interesting exactly.

Speaker 1 (02:28):
And what was interesting is we saw that quite a bit,
you know. I mean, we saw it with Kendall Jenner.
We obviously saw it twice with India Vindya in her
first look, which was very, very intricate and very thematic honestly.
And it was by John Galliano for Maison Marciella. And

(02:48):
for those of you that don't know, John Galliano has
had his own namesake brand for many many years. Alongside
of that, he was the creative director for Christian Dure
for many many years and and has been at uh
Maison Margiela for the last few years. And so what

(03:11):
was interesting is that if I saw that without knowing,
I would have said that is a John Galliano dure
cature creation. John was working that night, Yeah, he was,
which is so it's so interesting because you know, historically
when I look at or think of and went to

(03:33):
countless Galliano shows, I mean, I understand why so many
people went to him to create for this theme. It
makes absolute sense because he's he always has this very
you know, like you know, there's there's a real there's
a fairy.

Speaker 3 (03:52):
Thing about him.

Speaker 1 (03:53):
You know that the classic Galliano bias slips to the
you know, to the incredibly ornate catoure that felt like
you know, medieval royalty, you know. So he's brilliant.

Speaker 2 (04:07):
He masters the goth fairy tale.

Speaker 1 (04:10):
Like master's of Goth fairy tale, and he absolutely does,
he one hundred percent does.

Speaker 2 (04:15):
And well yeah, if on cue another co chair. The
lovely Jennifer Lopez went to the other side of the
theme in a really beautiful Scaparelli gown.

Speaker 3 (04:29):
Yes she did.

Speaker 1 (04:30):
And you know what, at first, I was not as
in love as I wanted to be, only because I feel,
you know, I felt like we've seen j Lo in
this before, you know, something like it.

Speaker 3 (04:46):
But then as I watched videos.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Of her in it and I dug deeper into it,
I realized what an actual masterpiece is and how and
how difficult it must.

Speaker 3 (05:01):
Have been to actually wear it, you know.

Speaker 1 (05:04):
But but I also think with Jennifer, like, you know,
Jennifer Lopez is someone who you know, it's it's wild
because somehow it all works on her. And then she
obviously wore this insane Tiffany necklace to sort of compliment
the butterfly wings, to sort of lay perfectly in between
the butterfly wings.

Speaker 3 (05:25):
You know. Yeah, we made a.

Speaker 2 (05:27):
Joke last night that Jlo left no Tiffany diamonds for
anybody else at the call, because that necklace is.

Speaker 3 (05:33):
Extraordinary, beyond beyond, beyond beyond.

Speaker 2 (05:37):
Yes, absolutely beautiful, very very minimal makeup for her.

Speaker 3 (05:44):
Yes.

Speaker 1 (05:45):
Yeah, By the way, that was I think very interesting
and I think very strategic that she was trying to
be softer, you know, and I think she was being awakened. Yeah,
she was being awakened. And it was interesting because first
I was like, what's missing. Oh, it's her lashes. Oh wait,
they're like a natural color lash. Okay, wait, it's all.

(06:07):
It's all, it's all settling in and you know, she
really looks stunning. And then I thought what was interesting
is how when Hearn's and Dea pose next to each other,
like what a gorgeous like juxtaposition that was, you know, it.

Speaker 2 (06:22):
Like perfectly puts together the evening.

Speaker 3 (06:24):
I feel yeah, a hundred I agree.

Speaker 2 (06:26):
Moving on to our eternal Queen, Nicole Kidman. Yes in Beauman, Yes, yes, yes,
and yes forever Nicole.

Speaker 1 (06:38):
Yes, I I in Balenciaga, in not in Belmont, I'm
thinking of Nicole Kidman in Balenciaga was absolute perfection in
every possible way. It was based off a historical Balenciaga
dress couture piece from the nineteen fifties, and it was

(06:59):
recreate and it was absolutely stunning. It was beyond stunning,
and I just I was just blown away. I mean, honestly,
just the way she stands. But I thought it was amazing.
Was you know, It's interesting because I think part of
me is like, Okay, we maybe wanted her hair pulled
back in a top not there right, like to kind

(07:22):
of go with the sculpting, and yet on her it
worked so beautifully to have complete, like a completely effortless
blow dry, although knowing a deer who did her hair,
I'm sure it was a lot of effort, but because
a deer doesn't just do a blow dry. And then
of course Gucci Westman, who did her makeup.

Speaker 3 (07:43):
I mean I felt that.

Speaker 1 (07:44):
Her her glam was just perfect. It was like fresh
and gorgeous, and her dress was so like severe and sculptural,
but like it's somehow really just worked.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Yes, she's just perpetue a statue. Well, why don't we
move into your Oscar de la Rena queens.

Speaker 1 (08:05):
Yes, So, you know, it's interesting because I think something
to note about met Ball or the can film festival
or any of these things.

Speaker 3 (08:15):
It is very.

Speaker 1 (08:18):
It is so hard for these designers because there's so
much time. I mean, every one of the dresses that
you saw on the carpet took hundreds and some thousands
of hours.

Speaker 3 (08:32):
And you know, in this, you.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
Know, there could be a season where Oscar del Reenta
has nobody or any designer has no one that placed
on a met gallic carpet last night, and last night,
Oscar I think dressed custom. I think it was like
six or seven. Yeah, and you know, from Pamela Anderson,
who was stunning, Chris Jenner looked extraordinary. I loved her huge, huge,

(09:00):
like gorgeous cloak with embroidery.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
She was like this, you know, like this.

Speaker 1 (09:06):
Queen that she is in the long coat over the sheath,
which was stunning, all white, gorgeous, and the coat was
like cathedral length. And the emerald was, oh my god,
the emeralds, the emeralds, the emeralds. Can't beat those. And
then Kylie, I want to talk about Kylie. Kylie Jenner
looked probably the most beautiful like in terms of what

(09:29):
she was wearing. I would say it was my favorite
look of Kylie ever that I've seen.

Speaker 2 (09:35):
Because you typically you always appreciate the fashion of Kylie,
but I do you usually skew so Kendall.

Speaker 3 (09:44):
Yes, yes, that, yeah, I know.

Speaker 2 (09:47):
That you and fat were blown away by Kylie last night.

Speaker 1 (09:50):
Well, because I think sometimes I'm just such a fan
with certain people of less and I am a huge believer.

Speaker 3 (10:00):
I heard that you can create incredible.

Speaker 1 (10:02):
Drama without being over the top, like too much, do
you know what I mean? Like you don't have to
be you don't have to wear what Cardi b wore
to be the moment, and I feel like her simplicity
but still with drama in architecture and like on theme

(10:26):
and just I just thought she looked beautiful. She really did.
I just loved it. It was so complimentary to her,
you know. And she's so young that it's nice to
see her look fresh and you know and effortless.

Speaker 3 (10:39):
You know.

Speaker 2 (10:41):
Yes, that leads me to two other minimal beauties that
you were obsessed with, which is past Berber.

Speaker 3 (10:47):
Yes, you know I loved Kaya. Listen.

Speaker 1 (10:51):
I love Kaya because I love how effortless she always
seems to me.

Speaker 3 (10:56):
You know, I don't think that Kya ever is.

Speaker 1 (11:02):
She just has never once looked like she tried too hard,
and so I really loved last night.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
She was giving me this sort of you know, it's funny.

Speaker 1 (11:10):
I don't know that she felt on theme when I
think about it, right, but she gave me like young
Jackie o Nassas, you know what I mean. And she
gave me Jackie Kennedy.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Vibe was definitely giving the breadth of spring.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Yeah she was.

Speaker 1 (11:25):
And also I think it was reminiscent with its sort
of nineties supermodel hair and like a very simple, like
Prada sheath with like Matt payattes. And I think it's
just a great example of someone who's like, I don't
want my look to overpower me, you know, And I

(11:45):
want to talk.

Speaker 3 (11:46):
I want to talk about Phoebe.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
I was going to at least say yeah, right into
our little ballerina.

Speaker 1 (11:51):
Yes, Phoebe Denniver is you know, for those of you
not familiar, if you are not as obsessed with Bridgerton,
I am. And she's stunning, and she's amazing on Bridgerton
and she's such a talented actor, but she's also this
like very breathtaking ballerina ethereal type of looking person. And

(12:13):
I think she like really leaned into that with this,
and I think everything about this look to me was flawless.

Speaker 3 (12:23):
She looked like sleeping beauty.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
She looked like she could have been one of like
the fairies and sleeping beauty. She was giving me fairy
tale fairy Her glam was flawless. It was absolutely flawless.
Her skin is so fair like she just the whole
look for me was perfect. I would not have changed
one thing. And she always wears very minimal jewelry too.

(12:48):
She always wears very very minimal jewelry.

Speaker 2 (12:51):
We are big Victoria Beckham fans over here.

Speaker 3 (12:53):
Yes, it was custom Victoria Beckham.

Speaker 2 (12:55):
It was stunning, so exciting for the VB team. She
just literally looked like an angel, like a peak pastel
pink angel, so stunning, more honorable Lyngins is your girl,
Jessica Bielle.

Speaker 1 (13:12):
Yes, she was absolute perfection in Tamorrow Ralph coture. It
means she really got the memo. It was absolutely gorgeous.
I loved the color.

Speaker 3 (13:22):
It was like this.

Speaker 1 (13:23):
Beautiful shade of pink. It was almost like a coral Yeah, yeah,
it was. It was CORALI and it was gorgeous and
it was like just leaves and just heavenly. Honestly, I
just I loved it. I absolutely loved it.

Speaker 3 (13:44):
Yeah, it's gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (13:45):
And another woman who wore a bold color that we
loved was Carrie Washington.

Speaker 1 (13:52):
I loved Carrie Washington. I just felt, you know, again,
like unexpected. It was purple, and the flowers just everywhere.
It was like an explosion of flowers, but in all
the right places. And I loved it. And I think
the hair, I don't know that that felt like the fairy,
but yet I felt it was true to carry and

(14:12):
I think it was kind of mixing the sort of
dark and light side of this theme, you know. I
think that was sort of the thing. But it almost
gave me like an old Hollywood vibe.

Speaker 2 (14:21):
Oh absolutely, you know, very very old Hollywood. But I mean,
her body in that gown is just crazy.

Speaker 3 (14:29):
She looked crazy, absolutely gorgeous.

Speaker 2 (14:32):
Or Jess, well, we have to talk about your Sparkle
girls last night, and yes, incredible gowns.

Speaker 1 (14:41):
Unbelievable and some you know, the thing about the met
Ball is there's so many people that go up that
carpet and up those steps that you miss a lot
of them.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
Honestly, you really do miss a lot of them.

Speaker 2 (14:54):
We did. We missed Irena when we were watching the carpet.
We somehow were distracted or doing something. Yes, and she
was one of your sparkle girls and looked to die.

Speaker 1 (15:06):
Yes, Arena Shike and Carli Klass both in custom Swrovsky looks,
and Giovanna Battaglia. For the diehard fashion people that listened
to climbing and hails, you would know her. She is
a fashion icon, has been for many, many years. And

(15:26):
she's a creative director of Swarovsky for the last few
years and transformatively has really made it sort of like
into the design world in terms of actual wearable Swarovsky
in terms of gowns and everything else. And these gowns
were truly masterpieces. I mean Carli Klass was like this

(15:51):
pink like goddess.

Speaker 3 (15:54):
Like garden y goddess.

Speaker 2 (15:56):
She was just like and the way the crystals wrapped
up in around her.

Speaker 3 (16:00):
Neck, it was like, yes, it's like a vine.

Speaker 2 (16:03):
Yeah, it was.

Speaker 3 (16:04):
She's really perfect, unbelievable.

Speaker 2 (16:08):
Talking about leaning into the theme and the actual curation
that's happening for the Costume Institute, I really want you
to talk about Kendall Jenner. Yes, and her look and
why it's iconic and important.

Speaker 3 (16:21):
Yes, And also to go back to Irena.

Speaker 1 (16:24):
The thing about Irena is look again, does it touch
on this theme, sure, but she just looked extraordinary. I
loved the sorrowsky on the neck, I love the sorrowsky
on the wrists.

Speaker 3 (16:35):
I just loved it all. She always takes.

Speaker 1 (16:38):
Something and puts grit in it and just gives it
such an edge that she always looks just incredibly cool
but cature, if that makes sense.

Speaker 2 (16:48):
I think to bring everything back to the theme, yes,
met Gala and yes, candoration is yes exactly for the
Costume Institute is to talk about Kendall Jenner and what
she Yes.

Speaker 1 (17:01):
So, Kendall Jenner was super interesting because she actually was
the first person to ever wear this gown and it
was Alexander McQueen for Chivant. She in the late nineties,
had never been worn before by anyone, and it was
a true art piece and it was not allowed to

(17:22):
be altered.

Speaker 3 (17:24):
And about pressure exactly.

Speaker 1 (17:27):
I mean, by the way, it's also like not that
it's the same, but it's like how Kim wore Marilyn
Monroe's dress, Like I don't even know that I would
ever be able to hold that for the night and
be able to be.

Speaker 3 (17:40):
Like no one touched me, no one hugged me, like no.
And if you rip this, Crystal, I'm debt, you know,
because she cannot alter that.

Speaker 1 (17:48):
But again, you know, she really went that sort of
like Cator Maleficent vibe. But what was interesting about Kendall
is then she changed twice afterwards for the after party
into another vintage McQueen that was like this butterfly gown
that was just unbelievable. That was just very kindle Honestly,

(18:09):
it was like short in the frontlong in the back,
angel wings almost special wings exactly. And then but I
do think some people really did go vintage, like Emily
Radikowski wore obviously she was naked, but she did in
fact wear a vintage for saucy dress. Hers was vintage
from I Want to See two thousand and one. It

(18:30):
was an archival piece and clearly very transparent, and I
think another thing to notice that transparency is not going anywhere.

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Nope, clearly not.

Speaker 3 (18:42):
We did see some butts, yes we did. We saw
a lot of butts.

Speaker 2 (18:46):
We did see a lot of butts. I miscredited Nicole
Kidman earlier about Ballman because I have to go honorable mention.
A lot of the women last night were unable to
climb the stairs. Yes, was the fit of their gowns. Yes.
And a musical artist by the name of Tyla, who
was wearing a Bullmon creation. She was wearing like a

(19:07):
strapless sand covered look, had to have a team of
gentlemen lifting her up the stairs for photos, which I
don't think we've ever seen before. And then I don't
know if you saw this, but when she got to
the top, they cut the bottom of the gown completely

(19:27):
off so that she could walk around and enjoy herself.

Speaker 3 (19:31):
I did see that.

Speaker 1 (19:32):
And you know, nothing like having the creative director themselves right,
you know, be there and just cut the dress because
better better him than you.

Speaker 2 (19:42):
Absolutely didn't Wes Gordon do that with with Carly one year.

Speaker 3 (19:46):
I believe he did. I actually remember, Yes.

Speaker 2 (19:49):
I think he did. He cut or he cut the
train off of her gown once she got through with
the press line.

Speaker 3 (19:56):
It's insane, I mean, it's insane.

Speaker 1 (20:00):
It's it's yeah, I mean, I think I think what
people do for the sake of fashion I think is
really illustrated.

Speaker 3 (20:08):
Best at the Annual met fall.

Speaker 2 (20:11):
Yeah. Absolutely, and Okay, I wouldn't be doing my job
if I didn't ask you who were or what were
some of the looks that missed the mark?

Speaker 3 (20:22):
For you, I can start tell me.

Speaker 2 (20:26):
I think Lona del Ray is having a very big
moment right now. She just blind Coachella. She is this
sort of style stylish, fashiony girl, and I liked what
was going on. I just wish the way that they
draped the fabric over the like porn yes slash tree

(20:50):
branches was a little.

Speaker 3 (20:51):
Less bulky yes, yes, yes.

Speaker 2 (20:56):
Because it to me there was something there, but it
just missed a little bit in terms of like volume,
and it would just like seemed a little not all
quite thought out.

Speaker 3 (21:06):
One hundred percent, Yeah, one hundred percent.

Speaker 1 (21:09):
I think listen, I'm never a fan of the you
know it's funny. I sort of contradict a little bit.
I think sometimes the way people consider fashion moments, because
to me, I would say a Nicole Kimmen or a

(21:29):
Kylie or a you know, any any of the ones
that I loved from the met to me, is a moment,
an unforgettable moment, more than someone who is wearing a
sort of netting or a cage or something.

Speaker 3 (21:46):
I'm and that's just me.

Speaker 1 (21:48):
And I think some people view fashion as Okay, who's
the person that went the most out there, who's the
Cardi b who's the you know, Katy Perry that comes
in a case or whatever? You know, And I think,
to each their own, and that's the beautiful thing about fashion.
But I think where I sait it is somewhere in
the middle of let's have a major moment and have

(22:10):
drama and fashion and glamor, but let's also not necessarily
look like we're in a costume, in a full costume,
if that makes sense. And I think that's really what
the met is about. It's about interpreting a theme, right
however however you feel. And so I think that's why
it's always all over the place, you know. But yes,

(22:33):
definitely not my favorite, not your favorite, Definitely not my favorite.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
I'm trying to think who else for me?

Speaker 2 (22:40):
Well, you know, also just sort of in general bummed
about the men.

Speaker 3 (22:44):
Oh my god, the men really bummed me out. You know.

Speaker 1 (22:47):
Corey Gamble looked so handsome next to Chris Jenner. Tom Ford,
to me, obviously, is always flawless. I was a little
sad about Chris Humsworth. I felt that he should have
as a host. Warn't a tie, not an open shirt.
I know he's Aussie, but you still need to wear
a tie.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
Maybe it's like he could jump on a surfboard one
hundred person given one and listen.

Speaker 3 (23:12):
Maybe that's like his jam, you know, and that's okay,
that's okay.

Speaker 1 (23:18):
But yeah, so I'm trying to think of any other
men lil Nas again, to me, it's not about a
look at me spectacle.

Speaker 3 (23:30):
So that wasn't my favorite lil nas x uh.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
When he certainly did an interpretation of the theme being
a coacher, he definitely went for that like goth yep thing.

Speaker 3 (23:46):
I think yep. Indeed, Chase Stokes went without a shirt.

Speaker 2 (23:51):
He yeah, he was in a full I think everything
was like sequined, wasn't it.

Speaker 3 (23:55):
Yeah it was Michael Kors he he yeah he did,
and yes, yes he did, he did.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
He did. He did your good friend's Tommy Hill figure
and d Okleppo looked.

Speaker 1 (24:11):
Stunning, stunning, and Tommy was in a red jacket. He
looked so handsome, and d was extraordinary. She was in
like a embroidered like almost like a again, like I
think it was a bit of a maleft scent, like
you know, running through the forest in a cape on
a horse, you know what kind of vibe Like I

(24:33):
was right out of a fairy tale.

Speaker 3 (24:35):
To me, I totally loved that, totally.

Speaker 1 (24:38):
There was a lot of designers I did not see
on the carpet last night, Like I don't think I
saw Ralph Lauren moment.

Speaker 3 (24:45):
You know, there was. There was a lot I did
not see.

Speaker 1 (24:48):
Shakira had a big red moment in West Gordon for
Carolina Herrera.

Speaker 3 (24:54):
You know, I think there was.

Speaker 1 (24:56):
You know, honestly, it was so much Oscar Delarenta. It
was so much John Galliano in different iterations of himself
ripping himself off.

Speaker 2 (25:04):
The Stella McCartney group definitely looked like Stella like role cool. Yes,
the Chloe Girls.

Speaker 3 (25:13):
The Cool Girls, the Cool Girls Club.

Speaker 2 (25:17):
Exactly, very minimal, fresh clean, yep Oho Chloe.

Speaker 3 (25:23):
Vibes exactly exactly.

Speaker 2 (25:26):
And Jacobs was went went for the boudoir look.

Speaker 3 (25:32):
He did, he talked about with indeed indeed he did.
And yeah it was nail.

Speaker 2 (25:40):
By the way, what did you say, did you see
marks nails?

Speaker 3 (25:43):
I did not?

Speaker 2 (25:44):
Were they like so long, so long, full set, really rocking,
I love him flacking around, love it. But yes, what
an exciting night in fashion. It's it is, you know,
the super.

Speaker 3 (26:01):
Its lover store is.

Speaker 1 (26:04):
It's sure, sure is and you know, listen, I think
at the end of the day, I think everyone has
fun and it's incredibly glamorous and it takes I mean
also note that like probably ninety percent of the women
on the carpet head hair extensions put in for this, yes,
and they're probably taking them out today.

Speaker 2 (26:24):
There was a lot of long, long hair yes, and so.

Speaker 1 (26:30):
I just can't even imagine how long it takes. I
guess indaa or like, you know, it's wild, absolutely wild.

Speaker 3 (26:37):
Crazy, must be crazy.

Speaker 2 (26:40):
