Speaker 1 (00:01):
All right, here we go, Pack twelve fans. This one's
for you. This it's the Pack twelve Apostles and only
the truth lives here Packed twelve Apostles.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
I'm George Reister, He's Ralph Amerson, and this is the
Pac twelve Apostles. You guys, make sure that you leave
a five star rating wherever you listen to podcasts. So
don't listen to Ralph from the beginning of this podcast
where he was tweaking, and we will read yours on air,
and also shoot us an email. I'm at i Ammad
(00:38):
at Unafraid show dot com or tweet us or exus
or whatever the hell you want to call it at
Pack twelve Apostles or like you sad below, at George
Reis or at Ralph Amsten. So we have a review
this week, Ralph.
Speaker 3 (00:56):
We do.
Speaker 2 (00:57):
Okay, okay, now like it. I'm not gonna like it.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
No, no, because I know it's not five stars. No,
and I think you can handle a one star review. Yeah,
the hater. Yeah, they did the thing, they did the
thing you hate the most.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
Oh my god, a three or four star review.
Speaker 3 (01:17):
We got ourselves a four star review, which for people
who were uninitiated didn't weren't here For the first two
seasons of this podcast. George was mad at me all
day every day because I said, if you leave a
four star review with like something you want to see
us change or whatever, like, as long as you come
back to make it five stars. Uh what what that
(01:37):
turned into was like a truckload of four star reviews.
No one ever came back to change and uh yeah,
so we got ourselves a four star review. George, Okay,
let's go okay, this is from lang Cree.
Speaker 2 (01:53):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (01:53):
This is a University of Arizona fan and I have
some things I take exception to this end, but I'll
read it and then we'll get to those. A little
off is the title. It's a great title. Love you guys,
but tell me you didn't watch the Arizona Mississippi State game.
Without telling me you didn't watch the game, Jayden did
kill me. But the Arizona defense is much approved. And
(02:13):
outside of that first drive where Mississippi State ran eighty
eight yards, look at the rushing defense. This was more
about Arizona losing the turnover battle, and still this game
had a chance to win. At the end of regulation
where Teamac stepped out of bounds and then a mistackle
in overtime, but four turnovers kept Mississippi or But even
though they had four turnovers, Arizona State in this game
as fourteen to seven a half time. Let's not delude
(02:37):
the fact that Mississippi State has boasted one of the
best SEC SEC defense. Exclamation point, exclamation point, exclamation point.
They were in Starkville. Pretty sure the showing doesn't bode
well for most non SEC opponents, and MSU fans were
more than clear that they got lucky. Anyway, keep up
the good work on the games you do watch.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (02:57):
Also, it was fifty million that packed twelve ohs to Comcast,
not thirty or seventy forks down and bear down later.
Speaker 2 (03:04):
All right, so let's address this. Number one, thanks for
the review, you know, and I understand where Arizona fans
don't feel as served as other people because Colorado's getting
a ton of attention Oregon USC Ralph's and Arizona State. Guy,
I understand it. I do understand it. But we're watching
(03:26):
these games, and I do there are a couple things
that we do have to correct. Number One, Mississippi State's
defense is not that good. This year, they just gave
up forty one to LSU Arizona. Arizona scored twenty four
against them and just ridiculous turnovers, and then they gave
(03:47):
up seven points to Southeast Louisiana, So that doesn't even count.
The issue with the reason why Arizona's defense didn't get
as much praise as people would have wanted from Arizona
is like, yes, is it improved one hundred percent? However,
the issue is against Mississippi State. There was only two
(04:07):
games of information and Mississippi State's offense is atrocious this year.
They are a air raid team built as an air
raid team, and they're trying to do something completely different
now and they don't have the personnel to do it.
The Rogers, who had thrown the ball like six hundred
times a season, is on pace to throw about like
(04:27):
two hundred and fifty times this year. They're taking a
ball out of his hands. It is against LSU, whose
defense is cool, Like it's not you know Georgia from
last year they had either ten or eleven consecutive no
gain or negative game plays like this. This defense is terrible.
(04:49):
So yes, we didn't give Arizona credit that you probably wanted,
but that's why. But good showing against you, TEP. Though.
Speaker 3 (05:01):
I take exception to not saying that we don't watch
the games because I feel like the mood that I've
been in for the last few days is because I
shouldn't all my time watching back twelve football. I definitely
watched this game. On the podcast, I talked about how
goofy I thought Zach Allen's halftime interview was where they
(05:22):
asked him, is there gonna come a time where you
put the ball in the hands of your quarterback? So like,
even even people like that are paid to like pump
up these games, know that Mississippi State is using the
toy incorrectly. Yeah, No, I watched, and I feel like
what we said was the only reason they were in
(05:44):
the game was because of Jaden DeLaura and the only
reason they lost the game was because of Jaden Delora.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
Correct.
Speaker 3 (05:52):
Maybe we didn't give credit to Arizona's defense. Maybe maybe
like all can see that they are Herbie looks great,
that they are much better, and especially the UTEB game
in there, they are much better. I am upset. I definitely,
(06:12):
you know what, I definitely spend my entire weekend watching
Sacramento State be Stanford. Oh, here's when the state scores
zero points. I do watch these games, and I think
it's affecting my mental and physical health.
Speaker 2 (06:26):
All right, well as your mental and physical health being
done a good service by how much DION coverage that
there's been, because there are some people who are like, oh,
I'm so deonned out. It's I have fatigue, and I'm like,
clearly people don't. Nine point three million people watch that game,
fifth most game ever watched on ESPN, and that was
(06:49):
a ten to twenty kick Eastern Time. And somebody tweeted
at me when I talked about that. They were like, see,
oh see, you guys act like people on the West
coast don't watch football do nine point three And then
in the hour of eight to eight fifteen, which is
eleven to eleven fifteen Eastern Time, there were eleven It
(07:10):
peaked out at eleven million viewers. You don't just get
that from West Coast to Loan, baby, you got to
have the whole coast.
Speaker 3 (07:17):
So this dude, all of Atlanta, you had, all of Jackson,
Mississippi hate watching it. They're like everybody was too dep
so see Colorado and the CSU rams play.
Speaker 2 (07:29):
So they have become polarizing. But is this are people
more wanting Dion to lose or are they wanting like, yeah,
are they watching more because they want to see Dion
Lewes because they're watching the pregame shows. Two are doing
stupid numbers.
Speaker 3 (07:50):
There's To me, it feels very balanced to me. I
have two questions for you, because one, it feels very
balanced to me. I think people want to be part
of a movement, and this is a movement. This isn't
just a college team having success. This very much feels
like a movement. It feels like a like a populist wave.
Everybody wants to be part of it. And if it's
(08:10):
the only thing that people are talking about and they're
enthusiastic about it, then you're gonna have other people weigh
in just because it's the topic of conversation. All of
this is completely natural. It doesn't seem out of the
ordinary at all. For me, it doesn't seem forced. Part
of that is growing up in the shadow of Dion.
Thirty percent of the world is covered in or seventy
percent of the world's covered in water, and deon covers
(08:31):
the rest. Like you know at that poster on my wall.
Growing up, I watched Braves games. I saw him and
Brian Jordan both do double duty. Like Dion has been
one of the biggest figures in sports my entire life.
This is not it doesn't feel that different to me.
But here's here's my question for you. Do you feel
(08:54):
like it's happening naturally or do you feel like this
is a forced me?
Speaker 2 (09:01):
No, no, no, no no no, this is natural and
but there, but it's not Dion doing it all by himself.
It's other people adding to the fire. Like there's no
way nine point three million people watch that game if
Jay Norvel does not make that comment, right right, because
(09:21):
that just boosted and people wanted to see if Colorado
was going to get blown out. And then as soon
as it was like twenty fourteen seven or fourteen zero,
people were like, oh, oh oh, I'm tuning in to
see what what what happens? And uh yeah yeah, people
were like tuning in to see what happens.
Speaker 3 (09:40):
Yeah, And you had the rock there. You had an
offset being interviewed during offsetting penalties, which is one of
the funniest things I've ever seen. You had Kawhi Leonard
pull up. Someone tweeted that he doesn't pull up to
Clippers games, which is an incredible post. Yes, Lebron James
has fifty two million followers on Twitter alone, and he
was posting about it. People are gonna want to know
(10:02):
what Lebron's talking about, what he's interested in. It's all
that people are talking about on the shows that are
typically dedicated to only talking about Lebron James. So you
know it. I don't know. None of this surprises me,
and I think the thing that upsets me the thing
that upsets me. Everything upsets me, but the thing the
(10:23):
thing that upsets me is I feel like for a
lot of episodes of this podcast last year and early
this year, I was like, Hey, do you think Dion's
the missing piece to getting us a new TV deal?
Because people will actually be watching Pack twelve games and
the idea of ownership over those PAC twelve games would
(10:43):
make these TV executives salivate. And I won't say that you're.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
The only person that told me no, but you told
you told me no, Yes I did.
Speaker 3 (10:53):
I'm not right about very many things. If if that
media deal was on the table right now, there'd be
a bidding war.
Speaker 2 (11:04):
Now, yes and no, right if they got assurances.
Speaker 3 (11:08):
Watch the winless Colorado State Rams, winless Colorado State Rams
nine point three million, two in the morning on the
West coast, people watching an overtime college football game. You
could sell them so many mypillows or whatever.
Speaker 2 (11:22):
Yeah, So what I would tell what I would say
is what I would say is is once USC and
UCLA left, right, So if this Dion thing happened prior
to that, right, uh, then then it would have been
(11:47):
a different scenario. If if this had happened before UCLA
and UCLA left, USA and UCLA left, Yes, one, everything
would have been fine. The problem is is that after
UCLA and USC level And that's why I was saying
that it won't change. Not that Dion won't have a
big impact, but it was just more that that wasn't
(12:08):
gonna be the thing that determine whether we got a
deal or not.
Speaker 3 (12:14):
That what about now? What about that deal was on
the table right now? Thirty one million for school right now?
Speaker 2 (12:21):
I think that they would have to get that, the
networks would have to get some assurances from Dion that
he wasn't going to pick up and leave for X
number of.
Speaker 3 (12:28):
Years, Larry Scott was trying to give away ten percent
of the network, ten percent of the conference.
Speaker 2 (12:33):
Nobody cares what Larry Scott was trying to do. Bro.
They did they needed to give away to give the
PAC ten coaches as they're in place as long as
they're employed.
Speaker 3 (12:43):
If they leave, they surrender it one percent of the conference.
Speaker 2 (12:46):
Revenue as their salary.
Speaker 3 (12:51):
No.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
In addition, man, if you don't get the hell up
out of here, No, absolutely not f off, No way,
that's that's outright, dude. That's like, uh, what do we
what are we talking about?
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Fine, it's just the end of our podcast.
Speaker 2 (13:08):
No, it's not.
Speaker 3 (13:10):
You're right, No, let's let's not daydream about what could
have been done. Let's just accept our fate. Well, nine
point three million people watch the winless csu Rams take
deonto overtime and not go for two. What are you doing, Jay,
what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (13:26):
Well? He was behaving like he thought his team was
the better team. That's what that's what better teams do
in that in that situation. But you know, oh, okay,
so the the infamous hit, the Blackburn hit. Yeah, I
hate the death threats and and honestly, in sports, sometimes
(13:47):
we get the ugliest side of people. It's crazy because
sports brings people together, but it also at times. I
don't know if there's anything like, like anything uglier than
what sports fans do. Sometimes it was ugly week.
Speaker 3 (14:07):
Henry Blackburn got called every name in the book. He's
from Boulder. That's tough. That's tough because it was a
dirty hit. Dirty hits happen, though people act like when
you say like it was a dirty hit, that you're
saying a crime was committed. No, no, it was a
dirty hit.
Speaker 2 (14:22):
Shouldn't go to jail, but he should be suspended for
as long as he's hurt. And the narrative that I
got back was, oh, you're only saying this because he's black.
You're only saying this because if Travis Hunter had hit him,
you wouldn't have said a thing. That's not true. I
would have said the exact same thing. I've been calling
(14:44):
for this for years. This wasn't to protect Travis Travis
Henry Travis Hunter. This was to protect players in general.
We've seen dirty cheap shots in sports, and I believe
that if a cheap shot reserve that it's if it's
clearly malicious, like in this case, the ball had hit
(15:04):
the ground. Yeah, and you do and Travis and Travis
Hunter has slowed up and he just took a shot
that he should be suspended as long as Travis Hunter
is out, like period.
Speaker 3 (15:16):
I did see a lot of comments from like from
Oregon fans. So I assume Oregon fans know you and
they've seen your content online for the past like a
dozen years. And they were saying that the only reason
you were going after Henry Blackburn is because he was white.
And they were responding to a video that you posted
about how Kareem Jackson should be suspended for as long
as it takes for Logan Thomas to get healthy. It
(15:38):
was very, very very confusing, the things that people get
in their head and then they choose to say out loud.
And I also want to bring up I can't let
this go that you accidentally almost said Travis Henry.
Speaker 2 (15:51):
That's what I was correcting. And and he's got a
son who's really good that plays wide receiver to the
late Travis Henry. Yes, oh wait, no, no, oh my
oh my god, no, I was thinking that, no, not,
that's Chris Henry's son. Travis Henry was the running back
with all the kids from Denver who went to jail
for drugs.
Speaker 3 (16:10):
I just wanted to point out that I've never heard
Travis Henry in protection in the same sentence before, and
you almost wow wow. So anyway, oh.
Speaker 2 (16:23):
And then and then people pointed out they were like, well,
should should or stuck his hand in the kids' face mask?
How about that nobody got got hurt. If if he
had got his corny a scratch, get him out of
their suspension.
Speaker 3 (16:38):
Right, Yeah, Like I'm I think I think it's reasonable.
Do I think it will happen. No, I don't think
there'll be mirror suspensions, but I think it's completely reasonable.
It was a dirty hit, but there were a lot
of people that don't watch I feel like a lot
of college football that were tuned in for this that
don't realize that, like maybe every third game has a
hit like that. And people were reacting to the result,
(16:59):
which was a lacerated liver for Travis Hunter. But Travis
Hunter's cool with it. Deon Sanders cool it. Deon Sanders
called it a tremendous hit that probably shouldn't have happened.
But he called it a tremendous hit because Dion grew
up playing in the era of Sports Center doing jacked up,
we used to celebrate this exact hit, which was always dirty. Yeah,
we used to celebrate it, right it And you've talked
(17:22):
about like that. You feel like they're doing some stuff
to take the football out of football, with targeting and
everything like this. When you get an obviously dirty play,
you get people thrown out for targeting, But for this
is just forty five feet that's all you get for
a hit after the play. But Henry Blackburn shouldn't be
getting death threats. I appreciate that Deon came out and
said that it's very tough for him that his hometown
(17:43):
is Bolder. The thing that frustrated me the most is
that some idiot found an article saying that in Fairview
High School a football player was accused and convicted of
sexual assault. And they put that article out there without
any name attached, and then all of a sudden, you
had thousands of people calling Henry black for an a rapist.
Guess what article wasn't about him? Yeah, So now like
(18:04):
he's got his Twitter locked down, he's in hiding, and
I just want to put out there for people the
hit was dirty. You never know the result of a
hit like that. Those hits happened all of the time.
There's not really a place for it in football, except
there is. And you can't base the results of what
happens to somebody on the level of vitriol that you expressed.
(18:25):
It was a great hit. It should have been penalized
more than it is, but the rules don't allow for it.
But that doesn't mean that he should die or be
accused of crimes that could commit. And if you don't
have the ability to process that information, you probably shouldn't
be left alone to watch TV late at night anyway.
Speaker 2 (18:41):
Correct, Oh, for sure. And you shouldn't be allowed to
watch cable news either.
Speaker 3 (18:46):
Somebody should be chewing your food for you.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
All right. Speaking of people who need their food chewed
for it. The appole voters, the sixty two AP voters,
these are smart football people. So I want to preface
this by saying this. These are people who know football,
(19:10):
who watch football, who study football. They're also a basketball
voter like these are knowledgeable people in sports. So it
is frustrating to me when the AP pole does not
reflect what's happening on the field. When it is reflecting
recruiting rankings, expectations, what you expect to happen later in
(19:31):
the season, because there is no reason Georgia should be
ranked number one at this point in time, no reason.
There's nothing that they've shown on the field that says
that they should be number one. And Michigan has not
played anybody of consequence. They've played UNLV bowling Green in
East Carolina. They scored a maximum I think of thirty
(19:52):
five points. I think they scored thirty, thirty one and
thirty five, Like it's not and they're number two in
the country for what when Texas has beaten Alabama? But
then there's another problem is why is Alabama still ranked thirteenth?
They don't know they got a quarterback problem. They're getting
pushed around and they got smoked. Like what's if that
(20:16):
happened to a Pac twelve team, it'd be over. And
if the Pac twelve had eight teams ranked like well,
if the SEC or Big ten had eight teams ranked
like we do right now, do you know what would happen?
Do you know what they would be saying, cancel the
rest of the season, give them the championship and all
of that, and you know how bad it is if
(20:39):
I'm caping for Washington because Washington should be number one, two,
three in the nation at this point in time. On
my poll, I have Florida State one, Washington two, USC three,
Texas four. That's what I got, and I feel like
(21:00):
it's a realistic representation of of what we've seen in
terms of dominance displayed, schedule played, and quality wins. And
that's what you got, and you can't base it upon
oh man, George is so good. Though I know they'll
figure it out, it doesn't matter they haven't figured it out.
(21:23):
Hence why I have Utah ranked around twenty. It's not
because I don't think Utah is a really good team,
because in the preseason I had them like in the
top ten or twelve. It's not that it's that based
upon what we have seen on the field, Well, Cam
Rising will be healthy. Well, when Cam Rising is healthy,
they will adjust. And my rankings that are not dependent
(21:46):
upon somebody else losing. For you to move up, you
can move up regardless of what everybody else does. And
that's the way I believe that the AP poters voter
should do re rank it from scratch every single week
instead of oh, well, well, team one one Okay, they're good.
Team two to one, they're good team three one, they're good.
(22:09):
Okay seven seven loss. Okay, now let's see who we
can move into that spot.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
Yeah, no, you're not only are you right, but like
the AP voters are supposed to be the ones that
give us relief from the culture of fanboy media, right, yep,
we're out here as part of i'm I went to
Arizona State, you went to Oregon. I do love the
PAC twelve, I do, but like I went to Arizona State,
you went to Oregon. It shows up in the things
(22:37):
that we do and it's not anything that we're ashamed of.
But the AP voters they are they can be fanboys,
and you pointed this out in a video you put
out on your YouTube channel today. They're fans of themselves,
like they try to justify the guests they made at
the beginning of the season. At absolutely every turn, the
information presented to you in the self contained capsule of
(22:59):
this season and this season alone should be what you
were looking at. And my biggest fear is because there's
a big ten bias, because there's an East Coast bias,
and it's just the truth. At this point, you know,
I don't want to sound like the people that just
constantly whine about it. It's just true. So assuming that
it's true, assuming that more emphasis is placed on the
level of competition in the SEC, even in the ACC
(23:22):
when the ACC is good look at Clemson, uh, you know,
and definitely the Big ten. What you're gonna see this
weekend is if Notre Dame beats Ohio State. You pointed
out the fact that people do that checklist the way
on down. But if Notre Dame beats Ohio State, it
would not surprise me to see Notre Dame jump both
Washington and USC.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
Yeah, it would not surprise me at And that doesn't
make it.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
It does not make sense to me because what would
be especially if if Notre Dame really gets them, We're
and this probably won't happen. But like I'm talking two
three scores, then what that should tell you is the
truth about Ohio State, not that you were right about
Ohio State. Therefore we must adjust what we think of
(24:08):
Notre Dame. No, it means you were wrong about Ohio State,
and maybe Notre Dame isn't all that great, which means we.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
Have What they do though, is Notre Dame is one
of the best teams or House they still really really good.
But Notre Dame though like that, Yeah, that's the way
that it goes.
Speaker 3 (24:30):
And I don't see them giving like if u c
LA beats Utah, I don't see them being like Utah
is still really good.
Speaker 2 (24:38):
But I know they're they're gonna say Utah was overrated
the end.
Speaker 3 (24:45):
Florida smashed Tennessee. Yes, smash Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (24:49):
And how is Tennessee still ranked in front of Florida
when Florida's only lost is to a team that the
Apeopole has? What eleventh? How does that?
Speaker 3 (24:58):
Because it's because they started out the year saying Tennessee
was twelve and Florida was forty two. They are trying
to justify their initial guess instead of just re examining
the data as it comes. That one's simple though one
team smashed another, How did the a P voters not
take that into account?
Speaker 2 (25:19):
Especially when Utah when Florida's only lost is to a
team that you have extremely high top twelve?
Speaker 3 (25:27):
Right? Yes, eleventh?
Speaker 2 (25:30):
Yes? Make it make sense?
Speaker 3 (25:33):
No? And because and because there's sixty two of them,
it's really hard to like deliver a message that changes
one person's mind at a time, the group of them
absorbs the criticism.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Yes, exactly.
Speaker 3 (25:47):
It's just like when people criticize the NCAA, your target
is really two or three idiots, but when you say NCUBA,
they're protected by the fact that you're attacking this.
Speaker 2 (25:56):
Yes, the organization unization. Yeah, all right, speaking of shadowy organizations, USC,
they are dude, you've just been helping these segues super easy, bro.
So USC has decided that they are going to suspend
one of their that they are suspending one of their
(26:18):
young journalists. And this young man wrote an article about
something that he heard the team, you know, that was
that was going on with with the team. And according
to USC's rules, that you can only write about or
(26:40):
talk about anything that has to do with what you
that what you hear while you're in designated media areas.
That's it. That is all you are allowed to write
or talk about. Now, there are other schools like Arizona
State where Jade and Rashata and other people were hurt
this week, and they decided that they were going to
(27:04):
ensure well. And their rule is that they want to
make sure that nobody is talking about injuries because they
don't want to give an advantage to the other team.
They want to make sure that they have, you know,
the advantage. So nobody reported that Jade and Rashata was
(27:28):
hurt even though he was. And that's a little bit
of an issue for people. And you even had Chip
Kelly being asked about it yesterday and saying, all right, well,
well guys, are you Chip, have you ever suspended anybody?
Is there anything that can get you suspended here at UCLA?
And Chip was like, bro, I didn't even know you
(27:49):
could suspend reporters. He was like, what are you guys
talking about? And they told them and they said something
happened across times like whoa, whoa, listen, I'm not getting
another people's business. I just know that like that, that
this is not the way that this is not the
way that you're supposed to do it. And and I
(28:13):
am surprised that that that's the case. So Ralph, there's
a big war now between the media out here in
La Plaski and everybody else and Lincoln Riley of course,
the school was going to back him up. And you know,
we saw Chip Kelly's reaction, so we Chelsea, I mean
(28:36):
this is This feels kind of soft to me.
Speaker 3 (28:38):
But yeah, I'll put a couple of things in here.
Number one. Number one, this is la so media members.
First of all, they're all gonna if it seems like
they all just assembled like the Avengers, uh to attack
Lincoln Riley, it's because they did your livelihood. Yeah, it's
(29:02):
this will happen if you, if you take on the media.
This is why it always felt like it was Trump
versus the media, right like he and it was it was,
but he very much knew that. Like there's a subset
of people that doesn't like the media, doesn't trust the media,
even though I personally believe there's not really such a
thing as the media until the media becomes the media.
It's really its own little things with its own little agendas.
(29:24):
But if you attack one, then like everybody takes offense.
And it's it almost feels like the writer's strike, right,
Like you got that the Writer's Guild, the actors Guild,
then you got the Holly producers. They all work together
on a daily basis, but all of a sudden they
hate each other and they just say bad things but
each other, like if you if you, if you attack
the media, and they feel like in any way their
freedom could slip, or that first Amendment that they very
(29:45):
much value is slipping. They will all come together. So
that's the reason that you're you're seeing everybody come out
for a two week suspension of Luca Evans. That's the
first thing I want to say. So, yeah, if it
seems ridiculous, it's because it kind of is. But this
has happened every time throughout all of history. The second
thing is this is l a. These people weren't afraid
of Phil Jackson, they're not afraid of the bus Family.
(30:06):
They're not afraid of.
Speaker 2 (30:07):
Yeah this ain't this, ain't this ain't Oklahoma, buddy. Yeah
they there there's other games in town, and and as
long as you're winning, of course. But the but the
problem is as you don't want to make enemies out
of these people, because as soon as something goes goes wrong, boy,
(30:28):
they will roast show ass like you weren't even yeah.
Speaker 3 (30:31):
And there's people who will hear that and be like, well,
then the media is not unbiased. We're talking about columnists, right,
We're talking we're talking about the because the biggest voice
in media are the people who are like the columnists,
and then you have like all the Beat reporters and stuff,
and Luca Evans trying to be a Beat reporters very
early on in what he's doing. This is the third thing.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
Beat reporters are different than columnists. Yes, beat beat reporters
typically are going to be way more favorable to a
team than a columnist is necessarily.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
Yeah, beat reporters going to be like, uh, this person
was wearing this cover cleats today, and a columnist is
going to be like, did this person wear this color
cleats because they're a racist? Like that's two different worlds, right,
But like, so here's the third thing, and I think
this is the most important thing. Lincoln Riley says that
(31:17):
they're enforcing the rules. Right. He overheard one player talking
about shyness in front of the media and he printed
that quote about how a player over it's a puff piece,
big time puff piece. But Lincoln Riley was like, the
rules are black and white. These are the rules. We
have to follow the rules or else this reporter has
(31:38):
to suffer the consequences and get suspended. And to Lincoln Riley,
and I hope that he hears this. I just want
you to hear from me. You don't want to live
in a world of black and white. No, you, no,
head coach of USC, do not want to live in
a world of black and white. Because I'm going to
tell you something about the media have been protecting your
(32:02):
program because it is a net benefit to the thing
that these libs. They want to see the players get paid.
They're on the side of the worker, right. They have
been protecting your program. Who has not been doing things
inside the lines or black and white. They've been protecting
your program because of the net benefit that it has
to the student athlete. Because almost everybody in the media
(32:25):
is on the same page on the idea that they
want these athletes to revenue share. And so let's put
it this way, the puff piece had a net benefit
to your players. Yes, therefore, suspending this reporter probably shouldn't
have been your main priority. Correct, because the way that
USC has amassed their last two rosters in particular, has
(32:46):
had a net benefit to a lot of student athletes,
but it hasn't exactly been inside the rules. Corell know
this to be true. It's not rumors. Your own quarterback
slipped up at media Day and said that he saw
Dorian Singer was having a good game on the other
side against USC when he played for Arizona and asked
his coaches to go get that player. What do you
where's Dorian Singer now?
Speaker 2 (33:08):
Uh at USC catching?
Speaker 3 (33:10):
What happened? Yeah, Jordan Addison was on the pitt roster
when Adam Brenneman reported that he was going to be
at USC next. Where did Jordan Addison finish his college career? Oh,
that's interesting, very interesting. ASU's punter Eric Gentry, Christian Roland Wallace, Marshawn,
(33:31):
Lloyd Bear, Alexander Do you think that these were all
black and white transfer portal editions or do you think
that you had coaches reaching out to players that were
on other rosters, which.
Speaker 2 (33:43):
Is illegue, Ralph, they would never do that. They would
never do that, right.
Speaker 3 (33:47):
Guess what? And there's all this media but no one's
looking into it, and it's because they don't care. Don't
make them care, correct, do not make them care? Lincoln,
don't do this.
Speaker 2 (33:58):
I just yep that that's a good line. Don't make
them care?
Speaker 3 (34:02):
Yeah, you you, Lincoln Riley. You do not want to
live in the black and white world that you were
trying to create to protect your program. I know you
did this stuff at Oklahoma, you're trying to do it
here in LA. You got to let something slide because
if the media was actually doing their job, your whole
program would be in big, big, big trouble. And I
don't want your program to be in trouble. I like
(34:23):
the players are getting paid. I hate that it comes
at the expense of my school, of University of Arizona,
of University of Colorado, you know, of all these other programs,
but it is what it is. Until everybody's on the
same page with nil, you got to kind of color
outside the lines, and you are coloring outside the lines,
and everyone knows it. No one's doing anything about it,
and you should like it to stay there way.
Speaker 2 (34:43):
All right. Now, on to the games. We had a
bunch of games, some of them non competitive, but it's okay.
We will get through them. Number one North Carolina Central
at UCLA. I believe Jarmond UCLA's ad. He went to
North Carolina Central. That's how they got this game. By
game probably got him a million dollars to come across
(35:06):
and get smacked up fifty nine to seven. UCLA put
out a graphic one hundred and one player's play one
hundred and one hundred and two. However many was that
means that means everybody on scholarship who was healthy, and
every walk and likely close to every walk on that
was healthy, played, so pretty much every single healthy player play.
Speaker 3 (35:28):
Jerry new Heizel might have got some snaps.
Speaker 2 (35:30):
Yeah, so there were no big stats. There was nothing
to be gained about Dante Moore. He didn't throw the
ball to the other team which was and had a
high completion percentage. That's all you wanted to see. Everybody
got carries.
Speaker 3 (35:44):
And seven different players score touchdowns.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
Yep, and we figured out that Chip Kelly is the
same as Sean Payton. He has fallen in love with
his version of Taysom Hill, which is Cooson Yankoff, who
is returning kicks, running back, playing tight end. This is
literally Taysom Hill. So I told Ralph I would bet
(36:08):
a paycheck that he ends up in the NFL. And
he doesn't even have the stats or any enough film
that you He.
Speaker 3 (36:18):
Got ten yards of carry against North Carolina Central.
Speaker 2 (36:22):
Listen, Okay, it probably hurt you a little bit.
Speaker 3 (36:24):
More to better paycheck than me, So I'm gonna protect
you and not take that.
Speaker 2 (36:28):
Bet, all right. Next game up Washington at Michigan State.
Washington's getting no credit for this win, granted the Mel
Tucker's situation, but I don't think this game would have
been any different had Meil Tucker been there. I mean,
if we're being honest, Michael Pennick Jr. Still assaulting the
record book. Four hundred and seventy three yards, four touchdowns, Roma, Dunze, Dude,
(36:54):
this team is incredible. Like the amount of yards they
threw for five thirty because Dylan Morris came in and
threw the ball some more. Two you had. I'm surprised
that Dylan Morris is still there, which is which is crazy?
You have they ran for one hundred and seventy seven
(37:15):
yards to that what's that six seven hundred yards to
total offense.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
Seven thirteen Yeah, twenty eight first downs.
Speaker 2 (37:26):
And Michigan State looks atrocious. But but this may have
been It's funny how things happen in sports, because this
may have been the worst thing that happened to Washington
was to have Kaitlin de Boord on display at Michigan State.
Because Michigan State is used to playing run and punt
(37:47):
offense and thanks to Kenneth Walker, the deep. The offense
looked really good for a year and it looks atrocious
right now. Atrocious. So they are going to win a
big offensive coach, somebody who's going to put big numbers up,
or at least hire people who are going to put
big numbers up, because they that's the only way they're
going to be able to compete against USC, Oregon, Michigan,
(38:10):
Ohio State. You got to be able to score Penn
State if you want to be able to win. So
Michigan State has to put something together or they're going
to be a middling to you know, they're going to
be Wisconsin, which I mean is fine for Wisconsin, but
I don't think that's what Michigan State wants to be,
especially since they're a powerhouse in basketball. They are, you know,
(38:31):
like they definitely don't want to be the little brother
to Michigan. So Kaitlyn de Boor is probably going to
be on that short list, along with Jonathan Smith. But
I do believe that Kaitlyn de bor is going to
stay at Washington. He's just going to get a massive raise.
And Jonathan Smith maybe one of them people that they're
looking at and people will say, George, he's so loyal,
(38:55):
he'll never leave Morgan. Yes he will. Bro, they're going
to the Mountain West. They're not going to have enough
money to support the coaching salaries and the escalation. And
he's got assistant coaches. He's got to be honest with then.
And if they're paying him, somebody's offered him seven eight
million dollars a year and an assistant pool of seven
eight million dollars a year. Bro, he's gone. That means
(39:20):
he can bring assistance with him. He can bring support staff,
all sorts of people, so everybody levels up.
Speaker 3 (39:28):
I feel like Craig Bowl is one of the highest
paid coaches in the Mountain West, and I think he
makes around two million. So that should just go to
show you the drop off that would happen if three
years from now, Oregon State has to be part of
that conference, they're not going to have the funding to
afford Jonathan Smith and his staff anyway. Like I fully
expect that to be the case, but I also look
(39:49):
out and it's not Michigan State that I worry about
for Kaitlyn de Bor. It's the La Chargers and the
Chicago Bears. When you put up five hundred and thirty
eight yards passing. Fine, that's college offense. But when you
put one hundred and seven ty seven years rushing on
top of it, that's gonna have NFLGM salivating, right, Yeah,
because your offense works in every possible way. Hey, I
(40:10):
got a question for you.
Speaker 2 (40:11):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
What's the difference between mel Tucker and University of Washington's
offense on Saturday?
Speaker 2 (40:23):
I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (40:24):
University of Washington's offense only spent twenty nine minutes ruining
Michigan State season with the flick of a wrist. Wow, okay,
so seven minutes is you're all right?
Speaker 2 (40:37):
Utah? Thirty one we were State seven. Utah Nate Johnson
is clearly their quarterback for right now until Cam Rising
comes back. I dropped them from, you know, being much
higher in my poll to twenty because they just look okay,
And people will say Brent Keithy's out, Cam Rising out, Yes, exactly,
(41:02):
But my pole is fluid. Other people don't have to lose.
I still think very highly of Utah. Let me get
some good film, put a good game together this week
with Cam Rising if he's playing, and we're fine. But yeah,
this this team looks solid, but they don't look special like,
(41:22):
they don't look like they can beat the upper echelon
teams in the conference or in the nation with what
they've done well. They beat Florida, they jumped on Florida
early Florida. They were in a hostile environment, new quarterback,
they didn't respond well. And then you held on for
dear life. You looked you often look stinky booboo against Baylor,
(41:46):
and then the fourth quarter, yeah, and then you because
of turnovers, and then you beat Weaver State thirty one
to seven. So what are we supposed to make of this?
So Utah fans, we still love you, We believe the team,
but we got to see something different because you don't
believe that with Nate Johnson at quarterback and Brent Keathy
out and the rest of your injuries that that you're
(42:08):
gonna win nine or ten games or win the conference.
It ain't happening.
Speaker 3 (42:13):
Yeah, one fourth of the season is over. One fourth
of the season is over. So you can look at
the one fourth of the season that's over judge Utah
and not based on what they might could do, but
what they've actually already done. And then with the way
that you do your rankings. I don't undertand why anybody
would be mad at you if cam Rising comes out
they torch UCLA and you're like, all right, no, I
(42:35):
see it now they're top ten because you're not. You're
not doing your rankings based on like you know, prior
bias or anything like that, or you're not you're not
trying to prove yourself right, You're just judging what you've seen.
I totally understand that they ground Weaver State to dust.
They're happy to do that. They don't care. They very
much just see a W as a W. But eventually
that type of stuff comes back to bite you if
(42:57):
you if you can't because there's teams in this conference
that are gonna score on even Utah's defense, Yes, you're
gonna have to be able to keep up. You can't
depend on what happening. It's Baylor or Weaver State, some
team somewhere is going to score on you and you're
going to have to keep up. And when that might
happen this.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Week yep, yep, one hundred percent. Now on to the
next game. Northern Colorado and Washington Washington State, excuse me,
Washington State sixty four. Northern Colorado twenty one. Cam Ward
looked amazing twenty for twenty six for three, twenty four
(43:40):
four touchdowns. He looks so much better than he did
last year, so so much better, and their defense is
still doing a pretty good job. I am cautiously optimistic
about this team. I've moved up significantly and well we
(44:02):
moved them up significantly in the PAC twelve Power rankings,
and now they got to go go and show it
this week and in the coming weeks.
Speaker 3 (44:11):
Yeah, I think every uh. And You've made fun of
me plenty for for this in the time that we've
known each other. But I tend to adopt a quarterback
before they've shown that they they can compete at the
highest level. Yes, and then no matter what, I'm right
or die with them. And I feel that way about
cam Ward. We we really really highlighted the issues that
he had last year. They were they were very easy
(44:33):
to point out. He's just off schedule all the time,
but you could you could see it. If he could
fix those things that then then he might be an
NFL caliber quarterback. I feel like he is proving that
right now. He's got he's got the size, he's got
the arm, he's got the mobility and it feels like
he can he can run a complicated offense. And Washington
(44:55):
State's defense is legit. And I know that this is
northern Colorado and shout out to their quarterback's former University
of Washington quarterback. It is it. It's not jacob Servon,
that's the no.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
Okay, no, no, right, yes, correct.
Speaker 3 (45:10):
Yeah, but so they got the former Washington quarterback. They're
not terrible, and they did score a couple of times.
But I Washington State did exactly what they're supposed to
do in this game. I think they're at forty three
to seven at half time. Cam Woard looks great, running back,
running game looks a little better, and to me, the
defense looks solid. It has me very excited about about
the game coming up this weekend and makes me think
they should be the favorite.
Speaker 2 (45:31):
Hmm hey, that that is interesting as well. All right,
we got we have Oregon State and San Diego State.
Oregon State twenty six, San Diego State nine dj Uyangalle
two hundred and eighty four yards, one touchdown, two picks.
(45:51):
Are are we concerned about this at all?
Speaker 3 (45:55):
I part of me wants to chalk it up to
a bad day, but his bad day looked a lot
like his first three years at Clemson, very low percentage.
It felt like they just really wanted to get the
passing game going, so they were kind of forcing it
all game long. The running game was working San Diego State,
Like the score doesn't reflect how down bad they were.
(46:16):
It just felt like they wanted to get him going
in this game. I think San Diego State's got a
good coaching staff that three games in knows that they're
not what they usually are. They're not the Boogeyman anymore,
but they do have the ability to make some adjustments
on defense. They are talented enough to gum up the
works a little bit. I want to say no, but
(46:39):
we have this three year history at Clemson. You know him,
you know the family, Like, what are your feelings on this?
Speaker 2 (46:45):
I believe that the kid is.
Speaker 3 (46:49):
Good.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
I don't think he's like generational or great. I think
he's a really good quarterback, like a college quarterback that
he has that Oregon State as much better off this
year with DJ at quarterback than they were last year
at quarterback. Yeah, I don't think he's a you know,
(47:10):
a potential high draft pick like his like his brother Matteo,
who is at Oregon kid is there comparing him to
to Keevon Thibodeaux. So he is absolutely amazing. But at
the same time, I think that you know that there's
a ceiling to it, and there are levels, like he's
(47:31):
not Trevor Lawrence, he's not Deshaun Watson, but that doesn't
mean that he's not a good quarterback and you can't
win with him.
Speaker 3 (47:41):
They're sure running the ball well over there, though, I mean,
I yes, and I know they don't want to be
that team anymore. They don't want to be that team
that like our quarterback struggles, so we have to like
set him up for success to only throw in third
and short situations and whatnot. But at some point you
just got to do what it takes to win. We're
gonna find out. We're gonna find out that they won
(48:04):
this game. He was responsible for two touchdowns that he
ran for one through for one. It's not like he
hurt them. He just didn't have a good game. Not
every game is gonna be great unless I guess you're
Michael Pennix or Bonnicks who never gets sacked ever.
Speaker 2 (48:20):
Yeah, never never gets sacked. It's easy to play quarterback
when nobody's touching you. But only I do like that
the defense held San Diego State to nine points because
this is not a good football team offensively, but only
scoring twenty six points a little bit of a concern,
all right. Colorado State, Colorado Colorado forty three, double overtime,
(48:46):
Colorado State thirty five. I thought we learned even more
about Shador Sanders, the dude. He keeps coming up aces.
Came up aces in the clutch against TCU, came up
aces again when it mattered the most against Colorado State.
And people are pointing to because I said that I
believe that he could rival Caleb Williams for the number
(49:09):
one overall pick. Talk to two NFL coaches I'm sorry, scouts,
and an NFL coach. They all said, listen, you're you're
not wrong about their potential NFL future. But Caleb is
probably still going number number one no matter what happens.
But that Caleb, but that if they were betting their
(49:33):
career on a player, they would go with Shadur because
they think that the floor is higher, even though caleb
seiling may be a little bit higher, that the floor
is higher with shauduur.
Speaker 3 (49:51):
Are these imaginary friends?
Speaker 2 (49:53):
No, they're not imaginary friends, They're real friends.
Speaker 1 (49:55):
Bro.
Speaker 3 (49:56):
Okay was making sure you you didn't have one of
the hottest hot takes I've ever seen in my life
on Twitter, and then I had to go to the council.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
I don't understand what is what is hot takey about that?
Speaker 3 (50:14):
Caleb Williams is going to be the number one pick
if he comes out, has a press conference tomorrow and
says that he's giving up football for ice skating.
Speaker 2 (50:29):
What is wrong with you?
Speaker 3 (50:30):
Bro? What is wrong with me? The Cardinals were up
twenty eight to seven late in the third, remembered Caleb
Williams exists and lost to the Giants. Like this is
this is this is uh, this is a tank of
thought like it's happening in the NFL. And Week one,
I've never seen this before. I've never seen I've never
seen somebody go into Week one being like, oh man,
(50:52):
we could either get Caleb or like whatever trade Hall
would would would give us the most to trade off
this pick for Caleb.
Speaker 2 (50:59):
Hey, and if if you notice, Kyler put out a
video he's working out, he's looking he's he's looking good, buddy,
so you better watch out watch it, y'all. Everybody better
watch their mouth about Caleb Williams right now. I mean
about Kyler Murray because he ain't playing around with y'all
fools right now.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
What's that saying though, Like if they if they cheat
with you, don't be surprised if they cheat on you. Yes,
then the Cardinals draft Kyler Murray when they had picked
the first round of the previous year in the top ten.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
Yes, correct, they did.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
I'm not saying as a Cardinals fan, I want that
I think it's time to move on from Kyler Murray.
I'm saying we could sure get him a lot of
help if we had the number one and number two
pick and let's play two quarterback offense. Let's do it.
Speaker 2 (51:45):
No, I'm I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (51:48):
I just I think Caleb Willams gonna be the number
one pick no matter what. I understand what you're saying.
And Shaduur has looked incredible. We're gonna find out more
about him on Saturday. But he he does, he has
it all. He really has it all. But people are
so ingrained in this like and I know that there's
been years where like people went in thinking Brian bram
(52:09):
was gonna be the number one pick and then he
was like a sixth rounder. But that's not this. Kayleb
Williams won the Heisman and then all he's done is
prove it, prove it, prove it. And he's probably gonna
prove it again at Arizona State on Saturday. You know,
he's he's been nothing short of perfect. He's been almost
perfect as a quarterback. The big complaint about him is
that maybe he holds onto it a little bit too
(52:29):
much sometimes, that's the biggest complaint. Like I don't see
anybody eclipsing him, So that's why it felt hot taking
of me. But I see, I see what you're saying.
I just refuse to acknowledge that it's based in reality
at all.
Speaker 2 (52:46):
Yeah yeah, all right, all right, well and all right
we have well Colorado still they got to get there.
They rushing game together, they got to get their rushing
defense together, and.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
They can't play man coverage apparently.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
And they have to tackle people.
Speaker 3 (53:10):
Like so you know, Colorado State had thirty five receptions
spread out amongst four players. Yeah, have you ever seen
a stat like that?
Speaker 2 (53:19):
No? Nope, nope, no, absolutely not. That is outrageous.
Speaker 3 (53:25):
So yeah, man, coverage is tough. Can't stop the run,
can't uh can't run the ball. I don't know. Now
I'm talking myself into Shador being Superman.
Speaker 2 (53:37):
Exactly, exactly, brother, all right, Idaho at Cal. First of all,
Cow trying to change their name to like Cal Berkeley.
That's a whole nother Cow conversation for another day, which
is annoying. But Idaho was up in this game seventeen
to fourteen at halftime. They were up ten to nothing
(53:59):
after the first This looked a little bit scary, Ralph,
this looked a little bit scary because Cow's offense is
still not doing the things that you would have thought
and would have expected. Because we were all excited after that,
Oh was that fifty five points and fifty eight versus
(54:19):
North Texas and week one and then in against Auburn
had come back and scored ten points against Auburn ten.
Speaker 3 (54:25):
But then that one was tough because it's like, oh,
they missed like thirty four field goals in one quarter,
so should they have actually scored fifty plus two weeks
in a row? You know, this game was scary, Yeah,
because it was late in the second quarter, seventeen to nothing.
No Jade and not Sam Jackson didn't look like he
had any comfortability back there. He got hurt for a minute.
(54:48):
Ben Finley came in, but a fonse They're running back
who I tried to hype up in Week one. Then
he had a bad Week two. He's a tough, tough
runner and they ultimately they ended up wearing down an
FCS team. They scored I think on two straight possessions
at the end of the second quarter and then came
out dominated the third and that was all they needed.
(55:08):
They won thirty one seventeen. But Idaho was out there
playing with swag, and like cal fans that came out
to the game were witnessing themselves being down seventeen to
nothing late to an FCS team that really played with
a lot of guts and is very, very talented. And
I know you saw Hayden Hatten out there and put
him on.
Speaker 2 (55:28):
I don't know where he's gonna play next next season though,
That's the thing. Where's Hayden hadden't going going to play?
Because the kid is an absolute dog. Let's pay per
rock scissors for him exactly. Next game up Sacramento State
Stanford Ralph. This was a sad This was Stanford being
(55:49):
last year's Pack twelve, not this year's Pack twelve losing
to Sacramento State. This is actually this is like two
years ago Washington losing to Montana, you know, BYU and
San Diego State just tearing the conference apart, and now
Sacramento State, Troy Taylor's old team is on the schedule
(56:13):
and they serve him up as a big sky l
thirty to twenty three.
Speaker 3 (56:21):
I had three four takeaways from this game. Number one
is Cayden Bennett is a dude. The gutsy performance, played hurt,
beat them hurt. The other thing is Stanford's linebackers are
maybe the most unathletic I've ever seen in this conference.
Anybody that's running crossing routes or any any running back
that gets to the second level, like it's just gonna
(56:43):
it's gonna be messy. The other thing is Stanford played
for a played for a field goal down twenty to seventeen,
Like they ran the ball on third and nine late
in the game, and it was like right then where
I was like, oh, I don't know if they want
to win, and yeah, I don't know. I mean I
could go on and on and on. This was embarrassing.
(57:05):
You don't want to make excuses against an FCS team,
but the final play of the game was a pass
interference that went uncalled. Should have been called.
Speaker 2 (57:12):
But you can't even be in that position versus an FCS.
Speaker 3 (57:16):
No, yeah, yeah, I'm with you. I'm with you. And
the five or six Stanford fans that were still there
at the end of the game to complain about it,
they have a legitimate complaint. But at the same time,
how were you in that position?
Speaker 2 (57:30):
Yep, yeah, yeah, nobody wants to hear about your bad
call because they were like, well, you shouldn't have been
in that spot anyway against Sacramento State, So nobody's gonna
feel sorry for him. They have a long season ahead
of him, brother, they have a long season. Yeah, I
only them struggling to find wins.
Speaker 3 (57:50):
Oh, me too. And the only thing that is going
to help them in the future is that they're still Stanford,
because if they came to you or me and said
we want your kid to play here, we might take
the pen out of their hand and sign the document.
Speaker 2 (58:07):
So they've already played usc who's ranked right, they still
have Oregon Colorado, UCLA, Washington, Washington State, Oregon State, and
Notre Dame. That sty still have seven ranked teams left.
Speaker 3 (58:20):
Mm hmm, yeah, and they're thin anyway, so I could
say maybe they could sneak up and win one, but
by the end of the season, when they're even more
depleted than they are now, I don't know. It's gonna
be a long year. And they've already made a change
(58:41):
at quarterback.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
At least for now. I mean, it didn't go well,
so I don't know who's gonna start. They're still searching. Yeah,
and with the transfer portal, they can't even remake this
team quickly.
Speaker 3 (58:57):
I can't.
Speaker 2 (58:58):
You could hire Nick Saban and they would still be
in the same spot because you can't get kids in school,
can't get transfers in maybe one, maybe two a year.
Maybe Bro, this is this is a five six year
fix if it can be fixed. But them joining the
ACC hopefully that that does something, all right. Hawaii Utah
(59:22):
fifty five to ten, Hawaii organ Yeah, Hawaii Oregon fifty
five to ten. Bo Nixon crew showed up played extremely well.
Both the Hawaii's points came off of penalties, which after
they got a stop then there was a penalty. It
(59:44):
was just I'm mad about the ten points. But this
Oregon team there, why are you last?
Speaker 3 (59:51):
I would have loved to score ten points this weekend.
Speaker 2 (59:57):
Listen this this team is gonna get a test this
week against Dion and we'll talk about that in a minute.
But yeah, all right, Ty Thompson, Yes, Ty Thompson looks confident.
He looks like he looks like he got some energy
around him. I'm like, okay, okay, he's not just out
(01:00:18):
there right now. I like it. I like it all right.
Fresno State, Arizona State. We'll save this for next to
last because the way we can't go on it too long. Okay,
twenty nine The awkward thought of twenty nine to zero
(01:00:42):
eight turnovers, eight turnovers. So that means that we have
to salute the Arizona State defense because to get to
give up eight turnovers and only give up twenty nine points.
Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
Brobo, they didn't ball out. They did ball out.
Speaker 2 (01:01:02):
They should have lost by seventy. Imagine if they give up.
Imagine if you give up eight turnovers to Washington or
USC or Oregon, how's that gonna work?
Speaker 3 (01:01:15):
They does a scoreboard have three digits?
Speaker 2 (01:01:18):
I don't.
Speaker 3 (01:01:19):
I don't know if you might find out, I don't know.
I Roe Torrance is an NFL player. Bj Green one
of the quickest defensive linemen I've ever seen. Jordan Clark
bawled out, Chris Edmonds bawled out that they've got a
very good defense and it's gonna be completely wasted this year.
And on top of that, there was a ninth almost turnover,
(01:01:39):
a fumble that Trenton Borgay tried to pick up and
get rid of, and in the process of picking it up,
turns his ankle, and then Drew Pine comes in, turns
the ball over four times, gets hurt. And then Jacob Connver,
the fourth string who doesn't get reps in practice, comes
out at the very end of the game throws an
interception of his own. It was the ugliest offensive performance
(01:01:59):
of I've ever seen. It was like the first time
as he's been shut out at home since like the
late eighties. And now Kenny Dillingham wants to take over
play calling three weeks into his tenure.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
Dude Carman was like Cartman's tweet. He was like, so
you told me it was the worst that you had seen,
And then Cartman was basically just like hands in his head,
and he was just like, I don't know, there's no
words for what we just witnessed. And I've never been
(01:02:30):
that low before. But so I can't sympathize with you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:35):
But I congratulations.
Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
I mean, Oregon's that down in the dumps was like
one year where they won four or five games and
then I mean, because they've only had since I got
there in ninety nine, I think only two losing seasons
mm or three.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
Maybe it sounds nice, so fun.
Speaker 2 (01:02:59):
But like double digit but double digit, double digit win
seasons and to national championship appearances. Yeah, a lot of.
Speaker 3 (01:03:11):
Okay, you're in a I didn't realize you're an accountant.
Speaker 2 (01:03:16):
And and and a bunch of New Year's six bowls
and wins. So yeah, I was.
Speaker 3 (01:03:22):
Just it's nice that you even get to count. I can't.
I got to count to zero, zero.
Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
And zero National championship.
Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
Is it really for Kenny Denhand to be yanking play
calling duties back? Yes, Yes, feels like a nervous action
to me.
Speaker 2 (01:03:41):
It does because of the amount of injuries, because the
quarterback situation, the like, yeah, I'm not sure, I mean,
but I guess he's gonna be like, I'm gonna show
y'all how to do it, and if if it looks
bad again, he might be like, hey see, I was tripping.
(01:04:01):
That's my bad.
Speaker 3 (01:04:03):
I worry because that the famous phrase of it, and
it's a man thing. It's not a woman thing at all.
But like the famous phrase before most men like really
get humbled is watch this, watch this, And I feel
like this is a watch this moment. So hopefully they
can put points on the board against USC.
Speaker 2 (01:04:20):
Yeah, but taking his play calling duties that means you
have to fire him after the season.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
Oh that's rough. Yeah, and it looks like Jane rashins
out for a long time.
Speaker 2 (01:04:30):
I think Kenny is he's hoping for microwave results where
there are none to be found. I think he expected
better at this point, but it's clearly not there.
Speaker 3 (01:04:47):
I think he's preaching patience and he's preaching culture, but
the best preachers are preaching to themselves. And he speaks
with a lot of passion. You can tell he's trying
to convince himself that this might take a little longer
than anticipated. God, we should move on to something else.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
All right, Arizona Utip, You damn dirty Wildcats.
Speaker 3 (01:05:11):
Only your only loss of the season on your on
your picks against the spread so far.
Speaker 2 (01:05:15):
Yes, only lost. Good job, fellas good job, but actually
good job though Jaden delord Dial turned the ball over.
But I should have known this because so they won
by twenty one. It was a seventeen and a half
point spread. I should have known that after the debacle
that was the Mississippi State game, that he was going
(01:05:37):
to bounce back. I love t Mac and not this
upcoming draft, but the following draft people will be saying, Yo,
who is this team Mac McMillan, kid out of Arizona.
Why is he projected as a potential first rounder or
second rounder?
Speaker 3 (01:05:54):
Why?
Speaker 2 (01:05:55):
And then because nobody's watching, but everybody will find out
because he's an absolute savage.
Speaker 3 (01:06:03):
He's got the body of a high jumper. He doesn't
look the part at all. But then you get him
out on the field, no one can cover him. It's crazy.
Speaker 2 (01:06:09):
Yep. Absolutely, And if you notice, they're they're starting to
get Noah Fafida in the game a little bit more.
Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
Yeah, I did see that.
Speaker 2 (01:06:16):
Just I want to give a just in case, just
in case, he has a blow up game. They listen
another one of them four turnover games. You will see
Noah come in.
Speaker 3 (01:06:28):
It just sucks that you have to wait to see
that happen because once you're there, it's too late. Right.
Speaker 2 (01:06:34):
But well, Jane's a good starter, so you can't like
just just be just yanking him out because yes he's
j R. Smith.
Speaker 3 (01:06:48):
Uh. I want to give a shout out to Martel Irbie.
He like retired from football at U c l A.
I think something to do with mental health reasons. And
now he's like one of the highest graded corners in
the whole PAC twelve this year and looks really good
for the University of Arizona. So it's I love a
comeback story, and I think that's a really really good one.
Speaker 2 (01:07:09):
All right, Well it is time for our PAC twelve
Power rankings because I well, well it was my turn
this week to send out the rankings, and just so
you know, we sent I'll make the rankings. Ralph has
the opportunity to make two corrections, and then after his
two corrections, I can make two corrections then if I want,
(01:07:31):
and then those are our consensus rankings. Well, last week
he did it perfectly. He went first and third, but
there was no need to go third because he got
it right, and this week, same thing. I sent it
to him and then he sent back a quote. Here's
what he said to quote Tupac. I see no changes
(01:07:53):
to also quote Tupac as an ASU grad. Wake up
in the morning, and I asked myself, it's life worth living?
And should I blast myself? It's bad, bro, I was.
Speaker 3 (01:08:06):
I was in my feelings, all right, what are the rankings?
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
Number one the Washington Huskies, so you know they must
be freaking good if and plant and deserving of that
because I'm an honest man. Number two the USC Trojans, three,
Oregon Ducks, four, Washington State, five, Oregon State, six, Colorado seven, Ucla, eight, Utah, nine,
(01:08:33):
Arizona ten Cow eleven Arizona State, and twelve Stanford. And
uh and yeah, rankings were really good this week, Ralph.
Speaker 3 (01:08:47):
Yeah, twelve, thirteen Stanford.
Speaker 2 (01:08:49):
And I know that Utah people are like number eight.
We already explained to you why. But you can jump
back up in the top three if you do, if
you do your job over the next week or two.
If Cam Rai is back, or Nate Johnson just all
of a sudden looks like Cam rising.
Speaker 3 (01:09:06):
But difference between eight and one isn't that much either.
Speaker 2 (01:09:08):
No, no, this is the tightest thing ever.
Speaker 3 (01:09:12):
Eight could beat one. It's feasible full strength for sure.
Speaker 2 (01:09:16):
Yep, absolutely, all right, number Now on to this week.
This week the action starts. We got one, two, three,
three games against ranked opponents. So this is the time
when the comp when the the AP poll voters can
can do their thing where they can start snaking the
(01:09:38):
back twelve for all of these ranked games. Okay, So
first game up, twelve thirty UCLA at Utah. Dante Morgants
his first hostile experience and he's going to rice Eco Stadium.
Utah's favored by six points and it I was three
(01:10:01):
and a half, yep, and now it's fifty two and
a half over under the I believe that Utah being
favored by six points means that Cam Rising is absolutely playing.
So I am going to take It's not saying more,
(01:10:22):
gonna throw a bunch of picks in this game.
Speaker 3 (01:10:25):
I this is one of the things I'm most excited
to see. Actually, how's he going to handle Rice Echos.
He hasn't been in an unfriendly and he's.
Speaker 2 (01:10:32):
Only been at home. Yeah, yeah, all right, give me
the over because that gives them both like if they
if it's twenty seven, oh, twenty seven to twenty four
is a loss, twenty eight to twenty four is a loss. Still,
I'm still taking it over and I am going to
go with the Utah utes.
Speaker 3 (01:11:00):
Okay, Yeah, I think a one touchdown win is fair.
I don't, I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:11:07):
I don't love it though. If Dante Moore was a sophomore,
I would probably that. Yeah, I'd probably take UCLA in
this game.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
I'm I'm all about if cam Rising is healthy. I
think they are more than a one touchdown favorite. I
think it could be a ten point game. But there's
nothing about Utah's defense so far that has shown me
that they can give up even like a in three
touchdowns in a game, So thirty to twenty would be
an under. I'm gonna take Utah on the under.
Speaker 2 (01:11:39):
Ooh, okay, all right, give now. Next game up, Colorado Oregon.
Oregon is favored by twenty one points and the spread
has been all wrong versus with Colorado all year and
all their three games over under sixty nine. There's gonna
(01:12:00):
be fine in Eugene. Give me the over. Wait, actually,
so if Oregon scores fifty and they score twenty. That's
a win. All right, give me the over, yep, give
me the over and give me Colorado. Twenty one is
just a lot of points.
Speaker 3 (01:12:21):
I like forty nine twenty eight Oregon. No, Travis Hunter,
who that give? Would be?
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
Push?
Speaker 3 (01:12:28):
Would it?
Speaker 2 (01:12:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:12:29):
Forty nine to twenty one. The over. Runner's not sixty
nine and a half, it's seventy.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
No, it's sixty nine. It's sixty nine on the dot.
So I am going to take the over and Colorado
because I don't want them to get blown out. I
want them to lose by like two touchdowns. I don't
(01:12:53):
want them to lose by like six.
Speaker 3 (01:12:58):
Okay, I'm going forty nine twenty eight. I think that's
seventy seven. So that's the over, and that's Oregon cover
as well.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
Forty nine to twenty eight. Oh yes, yes, that is
definitely an over and a cover, all right, USC Arizona State.
USC's favored by thirty ninety thirty four and a half points,
and they over under his sixty two and a half. Oh,
this team scored a donut last week. I mean, there's
(01:13:25):
no way that this defense is better than the defense
last I mean that last week's defense is better than
this defense, so hope. I mean, the quarterbacks did practice
last week. They don't know who it's gonna be.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
I think it's gonna be Drew Pine. To be fair
to Drew Pine, who had the worst game I've ever
seen in my life. He did throw for three hundred
yards three touchdowns against USC last year at Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (01:13:50):
Okay, So then in that case, give me the over
and give me. Arizona State brought us too many points
for me. There's too many points. I can't I can't
do it. I can't do it. They got to at
least score two touchdowns, which will put which means that
USC has to at least score forty nine points for
(01:14:12):
me to lose forty nine to fourteen. Damn, that could
really happen.
Speaker 3 (01:14:19):
God, I think we're looking at forty one to fourteen USC.
So that's going to be Arizona State in the under.
Speaker 2 (01:14:28):
Okay, yep, Arizona State in the under for me too.
Oregon State at Washington State. Oregon State's favored by three points. Sorry, Beefs,
Sorry Beefs, your your pack. Two people are going to
be the ones to give you your first l this
week give me the Coogs. The Koogs coo g s
(01:14:53):
and so the over under is fifty eight and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:14:57):
I will take the under. I am well, I'm with
you again. This is great, great minds, I guess. But
Makaiah Tongue is out for the season for Oregon State.
He's a wide receiver turn linebacker, very very talented. I
don't think it's gonna hurt their defense in the long term,
but I do think it'll be enough this week. Like
with cam Ward, cam Ward is again, I imprint on
(01:15:23):
a quarterback every year, so you're gonna hear his name
a bunch this cam Ward Legacy game.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Yep, all right, well listen, Yes, it definitely would be
the knockoff number fourteen. That'd be major after he had
a chance to knockoff Oregon last year and couldn't I
do it. Arizona Stanford, Dude, if you had told me
prior to the season that Arizona would be favored, actually
even a year ago, that Arizona would be favored in
(01:15:51):
a Pac twelve game by twelve and a half points,
where you know the team wasn't just decimated with injuries,
I would have laughed in your face. But they are
twelve and a half favorites point favorites at Stanford and
Jaden Delora has eight touchdowns five picks on the year
in the three games. He was great last game. He
(01:16:14):
can't throw the ball away this game. He can't do it.
He can't, he can't, he can't. So give me Arizona
minus twelve and a half. But I'm going to take
the under at sixty one.
Speaker 3 (01:16:27):
Uh what's the sound of the air hoorn? The lot
of the week. I I'm fresh off of watching that
Stanford game, so I would take this if it was
double taking it twenty four twenty five. I think Arizona's
going to kill Stanford. I think it's going to be
ugly that. Like I said, they're just super unathletic, and
(01:16:49):
Stanford has to run the ball to be effective. We
just watched Mississippi stru do that.
Speaker 2 (01:16:54):
Yeah, we didn't run the ball.
Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
Right, and that they they've had. They had some success
running off left tackle, but they were down like forty
at the time doing it against against USC.
Speaker 2 (01:17:05):
So then they're playing soft coverage and all of that.
Speaker 3 (01:17:08):
So yeah, yeah, I'm gonna take the under. I think
it's like forty to ten or something. Like that. I
think it's gonna be a huge Wildcats win.
Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
All right. Last game up Cal at Washington. Washington is
twenty and a half point favorites over under fifty nine.
Washington might score all fifty nine points. I'm taking Washington
minus twenty and a half and the over.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
Wow, I don't love the over because Cal might be
able to eat up some yards. I haven't really seen
anybody try to really run the ball against Washington, so
I'm guessing that Cal will be able to do something
with ot because he'll be back this week and a fonse.
They say they don't know who they're playing at quarterback,
(01:17:54):
but you have to figure it's Sam Jackson since he
can actually run.
Speaker 2 (01:17:56):
Yeah, it doesn't land any to pretty much all the
reps in the last game.
Speaker 3 (01:18:01):
Yeah, twenty and a half is so many points for
two teams that always have weird games against each other.
So to be contrarian, I will go Cal and the under.
It doesn't mean that I think it will be close.
I just think it's going to be a weird.
Speaker 2 (01:18:16):
Game, all right. And now the last time we got
is our PAC twelve Player of the Week, and uh,
I think I'm winning here.
Speaker 3 (01:18:25):
Ralph yeah, you're up four to nothing. You took the
cheap point last week with Michael Pennix, who you can't
use again for the rest of the season. And the
rules for this are, if we each put a player
out there, whoever is the better week. If it's a quarterback,
you get one point. Position player you get too, if
it's a defensive player you get three. You are up
(01:18:46):
four to nothing, And because you won last week, that
means I get to pick right. Yes, okay, well I
didn't even have to think about this Bucky Irving against
Colorado because I need to come back. I can't be
using quarterbacks to get cheap points yet, I'll start because
you you wasted Caleb Williams, you wasted Michael Pennix, and
you a wait.
Speaker 2 (01:19:06):
Wait, I used Caleb Williams already in your first week.
Isn't that how you went up one nothing? I might
have wait no, wait, wait, wait wait wait who did
I use?
Speaker 3 (01:19:16):
I use? I had t Mac. I can go back
and check, but I think you've already burnt.
Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
It's still got Nicks, yes, bro, I still got I
still got plenty of layofs, buddy. But you know who
I'm taking this week? Who I'm taking t Mac. All right,
that's the first effort. That's the first repeat receiver. Because
we both took Damien Martinez. You won with him, I
lost with him, Thanks Damien. So I'm gonna get so mad.
Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
I'm gonna be one of those people that sends like
hateful messages in people's MS, the fantasy players or whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:19:55):
Yeah, hey on T MAC. I need you to come through, brother,
need you to come through, because if you come through
this weekend, I go up five and.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
Oho, you'd be six. If you say yes, six.
Speaker 2 (01:20:09):
Bro, you you will be in a hole of holes
like you will be.
Speaker 3 (01:20:15):
I just love the idea of you rooting against Bucky Irving.
Speaker 2 (01:20:18):
No, no, I'm not gonna be rooting against him.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
I will.
Speaker 2 (01:20:20):
I just want him to have a great game. Well actually,
but I just want the I want Bucky Irving to
have a fantastic game, but I want T Mac to
have an incredible game.
Speaker 3 (01:20:32):
I'm imagining you like Bucky Irving breaks a run down
the sideline, trips and falls at the one and on
the next play, Bonick sneaks it in and you're like.
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
Yeah, ain't bad. I mean, but then we may have
to judge like which one is better one hundred and
eighty yards no touchdowns, or like in dominant play, or
like nine catches for ninety eight yards and two touchdowns.
Speaker 3 (01:21:07):
Yeah, we might have to be like PPR Fantasy Stats
on this thing to figure out.
Speaker 2 (01:21:12):
To figure out, it'll probably be obvious. And you, guys,
though it is obvious, it is quitting time here on
the pack twelve apostles. You guys, keep it locked, send
your emails, tweet us, and leave a five star review. Thanks,
peace out, Catch you guys later
