Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hi.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I'm Jenny.
Speaker 1 (00:03):
Hi, I'm Carrie. We're best friends and new moms. We're
also the ogs of Hallmark Christmas Movies.
Speaker 2 (00:10):
That's right. We've been watching these movies since long before
they became a Christmas juggernaut. And now we're here to
talk all things Hallmark with you because we know you're
watching too. Sit back, relax, and get your Hallmark on.
Speaker 3 (00:23):
We are the Hallmark junkies.
Speaker 2 (00:42):
Hey.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Everyone, we are back and we have a big movie
to talk about today. This is Carrie and this is Jenny,
and we have our producer Harry aka my Dog here
in our studio and we are going to talk about
Three Wise Men and a Baby. This movie is a
(01:03):
big deal.
Speaker 2 (01:04):
It's a huge deal.
Speaker 1 (01:05):
Yeah. I mean from the moment they announced they were
going to have Tyler Hines, Andrew Walker, and Paul Campbell
in one movie and a cute baby, people were all
in yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:16):
Yeah, And it's so different from what we're used to
and also I think brought a lot of people.
Speaker 1 (01:21):
Yeah, and we have fun facts today. I have a
really important question I'm going to be asking Jenny later.
Speaker 2 (01:29):
Okay, Yeah, what's your fun fact about the movie.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Well, for those of you who are young listening to this,
you may not be aware of a really popular movie
that came out in the eighties called Three Men and
a Baby, And that's, you know, a play on this
movie is a play on Three Men and a Baby,
which had a sequel called Three Men and a Little Lady,
which I also love in Three Men and a Baby,
which starred Tom Selleck, Steve Gutenberg. Jenny loves Steve Goodmer.
Speaker 2 (01:58):
So that my note, you do too because of his
performance in single Santa Meets Missus Claws.
Speaker 1 (02:05):
I love that, Yeah yeah, and Ted Danson hm three
huge eighties stars. And in that movie, Tom Sella had
a girlfriend and the girlfriend the same was Rebecca and
that actress was Margaret Colin, and she is in this
movie as the mom of the three Hot Homework Stars,
(02:27):
the three Hot Homework Hunks. Love that, Yes, I love
that she is in it. Also, Margaret Colin was in
one of my all time favorite movies. It's in my
top five Independence Day. She was Jeff Goldbloom's wife. She's
been everywhere, she really has, and I'm here for it.
I love her. I mean I just love her because
(02:47):
she was in Independence Day. So there you go. And
also they did a little homage to three Minute a
Baby with a bottle scene. For those who haven't seen
Three Minute a Baby, there is a scene where they
keep making babies bottle and throwing it to each other.
They're going buttle, bottle, bottle, and it happens a bunch
(03:08):
of times in Three Men and a Baby. I think
they just did it once or twice. In this one,
and Andrew Walker grabs it and gives it to the baby.
But I like that they did that. However, as a
new mom myself, I do realize it's a painting of
the butt to make bottles. It's just one thing to
keep in mind.
Speaker 2 (03:27):
My notes on this one were when this aired in
twenty twenty two, at the time of live viewing, this
was the most watched movie back to twenty nineteen, most
watched live viewers, most watched movie of the year, and
it was second only to Yellowstone for the week on
cable TV. It Ah, Yellowstone is like huge, right, I
(03:50):
love me some Yellowstone. And another little fun fact I
found out which I should have known before this, Tyler
Hines bands call themselves Heine's.
Speaker 1 (04:00):
I feel like I did know that and or it
doesn't surprise me.
Speaker 2 (04:04):
Would you consider yourself a heinee?
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Yes?
Speaker 2 (04:07):
Not wasn't a huge heineye before this movie, but he
was my favorite of the three brothers.
Speaker 1 (04:12):
Oh, he's not my favorite of the three, but I'll
talk about that later. Okay, Yeah, but I think we
should just jump into it.
Speaker 2 (04:19):
So picture it segment let's go, named after, of course,
our favorite golden girl, Sophia Patrillo and how she started
all of her stories about sicily. Picture It, Spruce Grove,
twenty twenty two. Three brothers who, all for different reasons,
have found themselves living at home with their mom near Christmas,
none of which really get along. We have Taylor, the
(04:41):
video game designer living in his mom's basement. Taylor also
gets fired from his job at the very beginning of
this movie for his awful attitude and for the fact
that he ignored the festive dress code at the company
Christmas party. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (04:55):
I don't know if it's actually a fireable offense, but
in our.
Speaker 2 (04:58):
World, for that, he stays at the party just long
enough for us to meet his ex Fiona, who works
at the same video game designing company. I think it's
called Fun and Games. Next, we have Stephan, the pet psychologist,
not carry a pet detective. He's living in the poolhouse
(05:20):
behind his mom's house, and it's a really nice poolhouse
by the way.
Speaker 1 (05:24):
I didn't know if it was like a garage or
a poolhouse or what a shed. All I know is
it was fabulous because he has a client come there,
and I mean I was like, nice house.
Speaker 2 (05:34):
Yeah, I mean he argued that it was a single
family dwelling. I'm like, he does have a point. That's
a really nice little poolhouse behind your main house. Stephan
suffers from what appears to be some social anxiety. We
learned this when he goes to the park and sees
a man who he knows is going to come to
ask him to speak at the local animal shelter. He
(05:55):
has to hide and go take some medicine. He also
has a very cute client named Susie, bringing her dog
Marcill over just to get a little closer with him.
Speaker 1 (06:03):
You knew who? She reminded me of the guidance counselor
on Glee.
Speaker 2 (06:07):
Oh I wasn't a Glee fan. A gleek is that
what you call? Oh my gosh, I only like musicals
in person.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Well, those who did watch Glee, that's who She reminds me.
Speaker 2 (06:18):
Of third brother we meet is Luke. He's a local
fireman and mister January on this year's fireman calendar.
Speaker 1 (06:27):
Okay, look, this is played by Andrew Walker. This he
is played by Andrew Walker, who is you know, a
Hallmark staple, Hallmark hunk. And he starts this movie naked,
well done, well done, Hallmark. And there was a moment
where I thought he was going to like take the
towel off. He's like talking to himself in the mirror,
(06:49):
and then I was like, oh my god, what is happening.
This is definitely a new Hallmark. But he didn't.
Speaker 2 (06:55):
Well you can still hope, Yeah, we can dream. Luke
is just going back from a call. It seems that
the local beauty Sloan keeps making calls for assistance whenever
mister January is on duty. Luke is also living at home,
and that's because he's been building a house for ten
months and it isn't done yet. That evening, and we
know it's December nineteenth. You know, I love when we
(07:16):
can figure out the dates in these movies. That evening,
Taylor and Stephen, I mean Steffan sorry, are having dinner
with their mom, and she mentions that since they all
find themselves under the same roof for Christmas this year,
she wants to kind of bring back the old times
and decorate the house like they used to when they
were young boys.
Speaker 1 (07:32):
Yeah. I already have an issue with that because she's like, look,
this house isn't even decorating, you know, it is, like,
actually it is decorated. I mean maybe the outside isn't,
but the inside I thought looked fat. There was Christmas
lights everywhere, and like not just lights, but like the
garland with the lights intertwined over literally every window seal.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I think she must have met outside. I mean there
was no tree up, but there was lights everywhere.
Speaker 1 (07:56):
I loved it.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
Yeah, it looked great. I've never put Christmas lights up
in my house inside except for like around a tree.
Speaker 1 (08:02):
What. Yeah, well, Jenny's about to move, yes on fact,
so now I know it to get her. Yes, yeah,
along with the sparkle Berey.
Speaker 2 (08:12):
Yeah, not wearing a sparkle cray. Back at the firehouse,
Luke is doing a little bit of yoga at night.
When you hear something at the door. Mister January goes
to the door and realizes that someone has left baby
Thomas with a note saying she'll be back by Christmas,
and that she left the baby for Luke. All the
firefighters agree it's too late to call child services, so
(08:32):
we might as well just take the baby with us,
and which is incorrect, by the way. So Luke takes
the baby home to his mom. She is overjoyed that
there's a baby in the house, also agrees that, you know,
they probably shouldn't call child services. And the next morning,
the mom.
Speaker 1 (08:48):
Is so funny in that scene, and I feel like
my mom would have done the same thing, like, it's
okay if it's yours, Yeah it's not yours. Yeah, that's okay.
Speaker 2 (08:58):
The next morning, tailor and stuff and also get up
discover baby Thomas, wonder if it's Luke's, and then also
all agreed that they should not call child services and
instead just keep the baby until mom comes back.
Speaker 1 (09:12):
Short minor plot hole up. Whatever, Yeah it worked.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Just then their mom gets a caw and turns out
Aunt Louise is in the er. She had a fall. Yeah,
she had a fall. Mom's got to go be with her.
This means that it's the three brothers left to take
care of baby Thomas.
Speaker 1 (09:30):
And you know, they go outside to the car to
say goodbye to their mom. I don't know if you noticed,
but the baby is not with them, not much like
you know, you can put your baby in a bassinette
or a crib, a playpen. It's just they didn't have
any of that.
Speaker 2 (09:43):
They just sat them in a car seat the whole movie.
I feel so bad for that baby. First brother up
to take care of baby Thomas is Tyler. It goes
okay at first, but when it's time to eat, Taylor
spills the formula, so he has to take it. Has
to take baby Thomas off to the store, and it's
a pretty rough trip to the story. He had to
(10:04):
spend fifty bucks to get a wagon from a kid
because his ride shirt didn't show up. He makes it,
He has to do a diaper change, he gets some formula,
he realizes his wallet is gone. Did the kid steal
the wallet? I couldn't pick it up.
Speaker 1 (10:17):
Oh, I don't know.
Speaker 2 (10:19):
After his wallet leaves, he has to leave his watch
at the store's collateral and he makes it home and
he is exhausted, exhausted, and brother Stephan is there to
take over.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
I do like when Paul Campbell comes in and Tyler
Hines is just so exasperated and just like ugh, and
he's like, it's been two hours. But if you know
anyone out there who has a child knows there are
times when that two hours feels like three.
Speaker 2 (10:47):
Days, especially if you spill the formula. Yeah, Stepan is
a bit overconfident when he takes care of Thomas and
he tries to make cookies and that also does not
go up well. He ends up with the classic Hallmark
flower on his face on his sweater cardigan thing, and
the cookies are burned even by Hallmark standard. Yeah, it's
(11:11):
a long day for the two brothers. And just when
it's time for another diaper change, turns out Taylor bought
adult diapers or little baby toss.
Speaker 1 (11:20):
I thought that was really fine.
Speaker 2 (11:21):
I actually thought that was funny too. So back to
the store they go. This time they run into Fienna again.
That's Taylor's ex who he used to work with before
he got the axe. It doesn't go well with her.
Things are a little icy between the two.
Speaker 1 (11:34):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
Stefan and Taylor finally make it home to be made
fun of by their neighbor Mark for their non decorated
outdoor side of Colorhouse.
Speaker 1 (11:43):
He's like so obnoxious, but like, I don't know, like
non threatening. Yeah, you know, it's just yeah, he's just
that neighbor that's just like look at me, look at
all my.
Speaker 2 (11:53):
Lights and blow up toys. Yeah, rut lawn to make matters.
Where after they get home, Mom calls she's got to
stay with Aunt Louise a little bit longer because Aunt
Louise had a concussion.
Speaker 1 (12:06):
Do you notice the face timing with Mom.
Speaker 2 (12:08):
I loved that.
Speaker 1 (12:09):
I loved it. This scene could have been done with
me and my mom because every time I FaceTime my mom,
I only see the top of her head. Sometimes I
don't see any of her and I have to be like, Ma,
like I cannot see you.
Speaker 2 (12:20):
They've done that joke a few times in movies.
Speaker 1 (12:22):
Yeah. Also, whichever one answers, the phone goes hi Mom,
and then the other one's like, is that mom? Because Mom?
Speaker 2 (12:34):
After Mom calls, Taylor and Stephan finally get Thomas to sleep,
and just like that, Luke comes home, wakes up the
babies and they have one of those couple bickering type
moments that's in a lot of movies and TV shows.
Speaker 1 (12:47):
Where have you been? That kind of cup of pickering moment.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
Now it's time for mister January to take care of
the baby. Things go pretty well for Luke at first.
He bakes some beautiful sugar cookies. He also simple a
baby swing that the other brothers couldn't get together. Putting
together baby furniture is no joke. I've never done it.
I leave it to other people.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Oh my god, it's so hard, and the packaging is redonculent,
like your three month old baby is not going to
try to get into the packaging.
Speaker 2 (13:18):
So, now that Luke's taking care of the baby, Stefan
heads to the park with Susie. Marcel has a little
pet psychologist date with them, but he sees corky Man
and that again trickers his social anxiety and he has
to kind of talk about his issues with Susie and
she's like, well, I have the same issues, they just
come out differently and I talk way too much. It
kind of like we see them. Maybe they have a connection.
Speaker 1 (13:41):
Over this, because at first I was like she crazy,
but then this moment I was like, oh, yeah, no,
she just has some social anxiety and she has a
really good heart.
Speaker 2 (13:53):
Yeah yeah. So Taylor uses this free time to head
out for drinks with his friend, who he's thinking might
be offering a job, but and instead his friend's like,
I can't hire you because you are a wrecking bomb.
Things have been going so well for Luke with Thomas
that he decides to take Thomas out to tour his
unfinished house, and then he's off to pick up toys
(14:13):
for the toy drive event that he is kind of coordinating.
But what happens. Somebody parks right next to him. They
just happened to have the same blanket over the same
car seat, and they sit the two car seats by
each other. Luke picks up the wrong car seat and
brings the wrong baby home. This also means Luke would
have driven the entire way home with a blanket over
(14:35):
the baby. So they get home and Stefan takes the
blanket off and he's like, you know, you brought home
the wrong baby. But again, it's no big deal. Even
if the police have to get involved to kind of
figure this out. Still, child services are not brought back in.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Right around this time. I had two questions. One was
how and why did Luke do so well with the baby? Yes,
did he have prior experience with babies. But then that
question went away as I realized the babies were switched
and the police would have been involved and they would
have been asking questions.
Speaker 2 (15:13):
Right, you would have been like, are you the parent?
Speaker 1 (15:15):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (15:16):
Like no, no, I'm watching the fire stations abandoned. Yeah, yeah,
but you know what, it's all a OK.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
I was glad that was in the movie though, because
then that could have been a very different like TV
movie of the week kind of Yeah.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Life again, that's lifetime. So they get vibe Thomas back
and the three brothers are back home with the baby,
and Mom calls again. She's actually stuck at Aunt Louise's.
She had a plan to come home, but she's stuck
there snow. Yeah, yeah, you know, it happens all the time.
She feels awful. This was the one last Christmas. She
(15:50):
wanted to be special and it's turning into a disaster,
which I wasn't.
Speaker 1 (15:53):
Sure why it was the one last Christmas.
Speaker 2 (15:55):
I think it's because they were all under the same
roof again and she didn't expect you to they would
move out like she because in the beginning she was like,
it just so happens that the circumstances are that we're
all back together, even though Stephan was in the poolhouse,
a separate dwelling.
Speaker 1 (16:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
After the call this, the boys realize, you know what,
none of us have really done a good job taking
care of Thomas alone. So all hands on deck, we
are going to take care of this baby together. He
is all alone on Christmas. So the first stop as
the brother team is obviously a Christmas market. The end,
they take a group pick in alf costume.
Speaker 1 (16:31):
Right.
Speaker 2 (16:32):
I loved that scene. It was so funny and I
really thought it could have been done, but it worked.
Speaker 1 (16:36):
Yeah. I have things to say about that scene, but
I'm going to say them later.
Speaker 2 (16:39):
Okay, And we run into Fiona again. Taylor gives her
some gloves. We see a little bit of the ice melting,
and that night the brothers continue to work as a team,
so they all sleep on the couch and put.
Speaker 1 (16:50):
A pillows cue. I liked her.
Speaker 2 (16:52):
I just got nervous about safe sleep for the baby.
Speaker 1 (16:56):
I am also going to talk about that later. Okay.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Next morning, boys are back at it, and then they
stop and realize, how did mom do this? Like our
dad abandoned us when we were kids, she raised all
of us on our own and They're like, you know what,
we got to make it up to her by giving
her the Christmas she deserves. So let's go get a
Christmas tree. They head out and they get a Christmas tree,
and they arrive back home with the tree and Mark
(17:22):
makes fun of them again, and he's like, don't you
know I'm news Channel seven's three time Spirit of Christmas
winning house.
Speaker 1 (17:31):
Each year, Channel seven picks the most festive house and
this year, if you win, you get a cruise to
Turks and Chicos. Did I say that right? Kaicos? Caicos, Caicos? Okay,
I've never been Well maybe because you don't decorate your house.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Well, I usually I don't decorate the inside. But they
weren't going in the houses.
Speaker 1 (17:50):
Well that's true. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (17:53):
And the brothers are like, this is the perfect opportunity.
Let's overthrow this obnoxious neighbor, Mark, and let's win that
cruise for mom. They have an evening of decorating and
both Fiona and Susie happen to stop by. They join
in on the festivities. The brothers do a choreographed dance
to the nutcrackers. Seemed like a dance they did as
a kid, right, as kids. Okay, it seems it's a
(18:14):
fun night and the next day, back to decorating. They
got to win this contest, right, The brothers have to
go so buy some decorations, but Luke is a no show,
and that's because he was counseling one of the late
firemen who passed son who stopped by the fire station.
So when he gets home, there's another big fight between
the brothers and Luke's like, I was the one that
(18:37):
picked up everything when dad left. Stephen just went and
stayed in his bedroom, wanted to be alone. Taylor got
in trouble with everyone, and I was the one that
showed up, and I show up for everyone except for myself.
Speaker 1 (18:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
Yeah, And we learn a little bit about the three brothers.
Speaker 1 (18:51):
Right, and that the dad leaving really effected all of
them in a different way.
Speaker 2 (18:57):
So Luke pulls it together because it's auction night, obviously
auctioning off dates with firemen. Sure, Taylor goes to fun
in games because Fiona was trying to write some software
for the lights on the house that they can win
this competition, and it doesn't go well. He and Fiona
are fighting again. Stephan is back home taking care of Thomas,
(19:18):
and he notices a rash on. Thomas immediately takes the
baby to the hospital. It was a hospital, was it okay?
Speaker 1 (19:25):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (19:25):
To the hospital. He texts Taylor and Luke, who both
peace out immediately in come. Thomas ends up being okay,
and we have a cameo. Yes.
Speaker 1 (19:33):
The doctor was played by Kimberly sas Dad, who is
a Hallmark favorite and a co writer of this movie,
and I love it. I loved her cameo because I
love her. But she has a line where she says,
you can't write this stuff.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Yeah, so she says, you know, no big deal, you
can take the baby back home. Yet another instance where
you think.
Speaker 1 (19:56):
Yeah, because she's like, who's the dad and they're like,
we don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:00):
I think doctors would have to be actually legally obligated
to services.
Speaker 1 (20:05):
There's probably people that work in the hospital right specifically
deal with that sort of thing.
Speaker 2 (20:11):
But it's okay. She gives the baby back to them.
They take baby Thomas home. They have a little hard
to heart again about when their dad left. The resolution
of this hard to heart, they're going to win the
Spirit of Christmas.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Lore. I thought that that whole conversation, which happens in
the car was really well acted.
Speaker 2 (20:28):
Oh yeah, they all had real tears.
Speaker 1 (20:30):
Yeah, and I mean I think they all did a
great job. Paul Campbell in particular, he really stood out
to me. But yeah, I thought that was a really sweet,
bittersweet moment. It was.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
It was it's contest day. The guys have decorated and
done what they can, but Mark the neighbor took things
next level. I think, decide they are not going down
without fight. So News Channel seven shows up to see
Mark's house, but the brothers all come out dressed as
the Three Wise Men. Baby Thomas plays Baby Jesus, Susie
(21:05):
Sorry plays Mary. They don't have a Joseph. They do
a little impromptu play, but the play is a big dud. Yeah,
nobody likes it. And then we have a bit of
an Elf moment where someone in the crowd starts singing
Silent Night right and it's their mom.
Speaker 1 (21:21):
And it's amazing. And they went up Mark quins they yeah,
obviously we think because it's homework, they're going to win.
Speaker 2 (21:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (21:31):
I loved that, and I think Mark says something somebody
says something about like that was weird.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
Yeah, he was like a good job, but he like
complimented them a little bit too. So right after they
find out that they lost the contest, no cruise for mom,
Thomas's mom shows up. Her story was that she had
moved right before Thomas was born. She's a single mom.
She really was struggling with money and she just needed
a few days to sort out her life. And so
(21:58):
she knew that she could take the baby to Luke
because he helped deliver the baby.
Speaker 1 (22:02):
I mean, I like that their mom, that she was like,
nobody's judging you. I liked that. However, still got a
big plot hole gold on here. She left her baby?
Speaker 2 (22:15):
She did at the firehouse.
Speaker 1 (22:17):
Yeah, I mean, and I also felt sad because you
see everyone just like, oh, this means Thomas is leaving.
I know the same way that I felt as a
child watching three Minute a Baby when Nancy Travis comes,
Oh yeah, and she's like I'm back, miss baby.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Yeah yeah. So Thomas and his mom do leave. They
give a Christmas gift to their mom, which is the
elf pick, you know, and the happy family is back
together again, which is the silver lining.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
Even though Thomas went back home to.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
His mom and we had what I thought was like
the first epilogue after this, and this is where it's
just a few days later, almost New Year's but Stephan
goes over to Susie's and they kiss. He yes. Throughout
it goes well. Next up we have Taylor and Yona.
He got his job back and he has here out
(23:10):
in front of everybody at work. They're going to give
it a shot. And then Luke heads over to single
Mom's house and gives her an ornament for the baby
and says he relates to her.
Speaker 1 (23:20):
Yeah, I was surprised because homerk usually ends on Christmas Day,
if not Christmas.
Speaker 2 (23:26):
I considered this an epilogue.
Speaker 1 (23:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (23:28):
And then we have epilogue two, which I think you
probably loved because you love the one year later stuff, right,
I love one year later. This was one year later.
Luke's house is done. Neighbor Mark comes over and they're
all shocked. They're all having a little Christmas party. Susie
and Stephan are there, Tyler and Fiona are there, Luke,
single mom and baby Thomas are there. Single Mom and
(23:50):
Luke are now together, as we had hoped. Mom is there.
Aunt Louise made it.
Speaker 1 (23:56):
Yeah, and we close with the Cracker dance dance. I
loved the Nutcracker dance.
Speaker 2 (24:02):
They must have had so much fun doing that.
Speaker 1 (24:04):
Yeah, so that's it.
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (24:07):
Wow, it's a lot, a lot for us to discuss.
Take a break, Okay, yeah, we'll be back. All right, Carrie,
We're back. What would you rate this movie? One to
(24:29):
five CCBs. I'm giving this movie a three point five.
Speaker 2 (24:33):
Whoa, I'm not going to be higher.
Speaker 1 (24:35):
It's weird. They did a lot of things differently, which
I loved, m M. But I feel like this movie
was missing something. I'm not sure what it was, but
there was something for me that was missing in it,
and I don't know what. Maybe it was just the
hype was so big on this movie.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
It was very big.
Speaker 1 (24:57):
Yeah, the minute they dropped the first tray or promo thing,
like everyone, if you were on social media, you heard
about this movie and like it was a big deal.
And I just don't I don't know what it was
that it was missing. I may give it a four. Actually, okay,
I am going to give it a four. Whoa, Okay,
because the one thing I did love that they did
(25:19):
was this whole collaboration. And you had said this from
the beginning, it's so different for homework too. Not it's
not the romance, it's the main really point. Yeah, and
I think that the fans liked seeing these because there
are there's a group of homework actors that are pretty
much in a movie, if not more than one movie
(25:40):
each year, and we liked seeing them together. Yeah it
was fun. Yeah, so yeah, yeah, I'll give it a four.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
I am going to give it a four point twenty five. Okay,
I really liked it a lot. I loved how different
it was. I loved that it was like the true
leads were men. I think that's you. They're like maybe
a step behind the female star.
Speaker 1 (26:05):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:05):
The reason I'm taking the points off, I'm so over
the bickering as though you're an old couple type joke.
Speaker 1 (26:12):
I mean, it's in like so much.
Speaker 2 (26:14):
I remember watching it on I Love Lucy once, Like,
it's just it's so overdone to me.
Speaker 1 (26:19):
They did that a lot on Friends.
Speaker 3 (26:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Yeah, I've seen it on almost every show, like for
all time. That's fair, But otherwise, no, otherwise, I really
liked it. I just I hate that, like it's the
way you feel about the scenes where you try to
make the guard smile at a royal movie that's how
much I just don't like those scenes.
Speaker 1 (26:37):
Yeah, okay, I realized too that this was not a
movie that was actually about the three men and the baby.
This was actually a story about the three brothers and
their mom. It really was. So maybe that's kind of
threw me off. I mean, I liked that. I don't know,
I don't know what it was. I can't give it
higher than four.
Speaker 2 (26:57):
That's fine, all right. Should we move to free for All?
Speaker 1 (27:01):
Yes? We should?
Speaker 2 (27:02):
All right? What's your first thought?
Speaker 1 (27:04):
My first thought is that I actually wanted Andrew Walker
to be the biological dad. I don't know why. I
just I really wanted that, Maybe because he was so
in control of everything else and it, you know, out
of the brother Well, Paul Campbell kind of had his
act together as well, But I really feel like Andrew Walker.
(27:25):
He had a good job, He was well respected, talked
to himself in the Mirror Naked.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
I wasn't sure that Stephan had his act together though,
just because of the anxiety piece that he hadn't really
worked through. He did work through it a lot in
the movie.
Speaker 1 (27:40):
Yeah, But funny that somebody with anxiety is a pet
therapist because a lot of pets have anxietiety. Yes, so yeah,
but I really I wanted him to be the dad.
I wanted Thomas to be part of that family. But
it seems like maybe he yeah, he does. Yeah, you know.
And also the dance, which we you know, both think
(28:03):
was amazing. It wouldn't have been fun if they did
some kind of prologue or outtakes or something where they
showed them as like kids. Yeah, yeah, but what do
you have?
Speaker 2 (28:13):
All right, let's talk decorations a little bit.
Speaker 1 (28:15):
Okay.
Speaker 2 (28:17):
I could not stand marks decorations at his house, and
that's because I'm not a huge fan of the blow
up like Santa's and those kind of things.
Speaker 1 (28:26):
I also do not like this.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
I could see why kids would like them. I just
I don't know that Mark's house would have been worthy
of the Spirit of Christmas award. I mean, it was
better than the Three Wise Men, but they were kind
of awful. I didn't like the Christmas tree after they
had decorated it, it looked like a department store. I also
did write I thought it was funny that the moms like, oh,
I haven't decorated the house, but the entire inside of
(28:49):
the house was decorated. And I also thought the way
Channel seven News went about their Spirit of Christmas thing.
Oh yeah, it didn't make sense because they were just
walking to these houses and then it was who cheered
the most, like land.
Speaker 1 (29:06):
There's like ten people.
Speaker 2 (29:07):
Yeah, it made no sense, and it was supposed to
be you got down to five houses, but then they
just let the three wives men in and they're like, well,
whoever cheers the most between these two houses wins.
Speaker 1 (29:17):
I mean, and that's a big prize. Yeah, it's a cruise. Normally,
I feel like that kind of stuff is like, you know,
two on her book. Yeah, and your name will be
on our website like a gift card. Yeah, all right,
I have a big question. Okay, well let me actually
(29:37):
preface this. I loved this scene, but why did they
have to put on elf class gumes in order to
take a picture with Santa Claus. I loved the photo,
especially because Tyler Hines looks like he has a cigarette
in his mouth, but I think.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
It's just a candy cane.
Speaker 1 (29:51):
Yeah. I loved it. It was great for their promos,
but it's like, what is going on with Hallmark and like, gosh,
costumes or costumes as you would say, because remember a
magical Christmas village. Allie Sweeney also had to dressed in costumes, Yeah,
to tell Luke McFarlane that she loves him. What's happening.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I saw it more as just like a whim, Like
mister January saw the elf costumes as like, oh, we're
doing it. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:20):
He looks at Santa and realizes like, oh, we can
take a picture, because like they had that picture from
when they were little, but they weren't in elf costumes
when they were little. And then he just turns around.
He's like, do you have three elf costumes? And I'm like,
what would you even assume that there's going to be
a costume? Yeah, shop kiosk there.
Speaker 2 (30:40):
Yeah, that would be interesting though, if you could go
take pictures with Santa and get costumes where.
Speaker 1 (30:44):
They had three adults.
Speaker 2 (30:46):
But I really also wished that baby Thomas's Elf costume
matched There's it didn't quite match theirs, and it really
bothered me.
Speaker 1 (30:53):
I didn't notice that because I was laughing so hard
at Tyler Hines.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Yeah that I really thought that thing could have been
awful and I love.
Speaker 1 (31:00):
Yeah, I liked it too, and it was short. I
kind of wanted to be longer. But I think that's
why we liked it, because it was you know, they
walk out and they're just like it, and you're just like, okay,
just somehow do you have any other ones?
Speaker 2 (31:14):
I mentioned it a little bit, but this was like
the one time I've seen sugar cookies in a movie
where they turned out looking good.
Speaker 1 (31:20):
Did you notice though the ones he made look good?
Then later in the fire Station, they do have sugar
cookies at the party and they look disgusting, Like we're
back to our normal Hallmark discussing.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
Cookies, Sonny. I think it was when Stephen decided he
was going to bake the burn you know, he burned
the sugar cookies and he opened the recipe in the book,
and even the picture of the sugar cookies in the
book didn't look good. Of course, they have these really
overdone looking sugar cookies as a recipe picture because it's
Hallmark and their sugar cookies are always overdone.
Speaker 1 (31:50):
You know, you and I should make some sugar cookies
and post them and show people what I loves to
look like. Yeah, did you notice in the scene where
they the ice rink and Ali Leebert's knees or whoever
that child is that she's with is wearing the ginormous
ear muffs. I did ef poor child, and it reminded
(32:14):
me of Noel next door when she had the largest
ear muffs ever invented on. I was like, Oh my god,
I wonder she Yeah, I mean yeah. Also, that ice
rink was like the smallest ice drink ever, and it
also looked like the ice rink from Magical Christmas Village.
But then I noticed it was attached to an actual
(32:37):
real rink, and so I don't know what's going on
with these rinks. Yeah, yeah, it was bizarre. But yeah,
anybody go back and watch for the ear muff specifically. Okay,
let's talk about Baby Thomas. You said you said you
had some notes on it. I have a lot of
I have a Okay again, I know I've said this
(32:57):
many times. Jenny and I are both a Newish mom,
and I felt a lot of anxiety with a lot
of the baby scenes, just the first scene when they
when you know, Luke brings the baby home. All I'm
thinking is all the stuff you need just for one night?
Speaker 2 (33:14):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (33:14):
With the baby, I'm like making a list in my head,
and his stressed and they're just kind of like Mom's
like it's so great this baby's here. I'm like, where's
the baby gonna sleep? What's gonna eat? You have diapers?
Is or a change of clothes? Like what is happening here?
Also during the Nativity scene, that baby does not have
a hat on and they're outside and I could not
get over it, Like I just kept staring at the
(33:36):
baby's head. Baby's so cold. Yeah, putting baby stuff together
is really hard. I mean it just there was just
a lot of There was a lot of anxiety and
also like the first time you take your baby out
to a store, that's a big deal.
Speaker 2 (33:52):
Yeah, it's still a big deal for me.
Speaker 1 (33:54):
And again you have to bring a lot of crap,
and then Tyler Hines is just there in a wagon
and the baby and I'm just like, oh, it's just
so stressful.
Speaker 2 (34:05):
Yeah. I had a lot of stress for the baby.
I felt back because it was always in that car seat. Yeah,
and I remember when I went to get our car
seat inspected and the woman was like crazed over car
seats and was like everything in this car would be
a projectile, just this craziness. And so I still I
think have PTSD and that, and so them having in
(34:27):
the baby in the car seat for so long. I
just felt so bad for it.
Speaker 1 (34:30):
Yeah, it was just a lot of anxiety.
Speaker 2 (34:33):
And then the sleeping scene, because that's another thing they
drill into at the hospital. It's like only on the
back nothing ever ye in the crib and so the
sleep scene, I was like, oh, I can't sleep there.
But you know what.
Speaker 1 (34:46):
Thomas was from, It's okay, It's okay. I have a
burning question, what is it okay? So again we have
three huge Hallmark stars, Hollmark Hungs, Andrew Walker, Paul Campbell,
and Tyler Hines. Who's your favorite of those actors?
Speaker 2 (35:04):
That's a really good question. So going into it, I
would say Paul Campbell mm hm. In this movie, Tyler
Hines thought he was really good and he was maybe
my least favorite going into it, not that I wasn't
a heinie, like I was a big heinie. Probably after it,
(35:25):
I would still say Paul Campbell. It might be that
he's the tallest, and you know I'm partial to tall people.
Speaker 1 (35:29):
Same. I love Paul Campbell and he's a writer. He
is a co writer with Kimberly Sustad on this movie,
and he's a director and he's tall. Follow up question,
who would you do?
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Obviously, Paul Campbell.
Speaker 1 (35:47):
I would do any of them. Oh, but I would
go with Tyler Hines.
Speaker 2 (35:51):
Oh, I thought you were going to say I was
gonna peg you as an Andrew Walker.
Speaker 1 (35:55):
I love Andrew Walker, but I feel like Andrew and
I have more of a brother sister relationship.
Speaker 2 (36:01):
Well, then that naked scene at the beginning of the
movie should have really Yeah, proble, take that back.
Speaker 1 (36:05):
We don't.
Speaker 2 (36:11):
Good questions. Yeah, who would you kill? No, it's just
like you wouldn't kill that effort. You would never lifetime.
Speaker 1 (36:17):
You're back to lifetime.
Speaker 2 (36:21):
I don't have too much more. I have a couple.
I really liked the differences in all the brothers and
then how we learned where the differences came. Yeah, and
it reminded me a little bit of and I don't
know if this is actually true, but on The Simpsons,
where the three kids are so different, and I've heard
that it is tendencies of the three kids of an
alcoholic father to be like the three prototypes in the
(36:41):
Simpsons kids like one goes silent, one acts out, one
is like the overachiever. So I liked in this movie
that we learned, okay, we had a father that abandoned them,
and this is the way the three people went. I
just thought that was really interesting and I love like
they all had different wardrobe and they all had different
just like joke the way they made jokes about each
other's stuff.
Speaker 1 (37:00):
I really liked that.
Speaker 2 (37:01):
Yeah, I did have a question for you too. We
know that Taylor got fired over his lack of Christmas spirit,
big problem, and what really broke him was that they
put a snowman on the video side. Would that been
that big of a deal to you? I'm trying. I
was trying to decide.
Speaker 1 (37:19):
Yes, because I feel like creative types. Yeah, you know,
like that's.
Speaker 2 (37:24):
Like your baby, right, and if you don't, if you're
not a Christmas person, which I wouldn't understand, but yeah,
you'd be like no, no, I don't remember what that
game was about, but I remember getting the impression that
it really had nothing to do with Christmas. I so
didmed it was like dungeons and dragons, like there's some thing.
Maybe that's all I really had? What about you?
Speaker 1 (37:46):
Yeah, same for me. But before we move on to
our last and final section, make sure that you go
visit us on social media on Facebook and Instagram at
Hamewark Junkies and tell us which of the three brothers
you would do and or which one's your favorite and
who you would kill? Yeah, just kidding, just kidding, don't
(38:07):
tell us that now, all right? Our final section romance
one on one, where we start with some thoughts on
the movie by our person that works in the romance industry.
Who is Carrie? That's me?
Speaker 2 (38:21):
So what did you think?
Speaker 1 (38:23):
I thought a couple things about this. I think the
big one though, as a writer, was like this movie
was and we keep saying, this was very interesting because
they deviated from a lot of the homemark typical script,
which is basically what you would get in a romance novel. Yeah,
(38:43):
and I was a big fan of that. I really
liked how they did it. There was still romance, but
it was secondary. There was a lot of family relationships
to deal with. It was funny, and I definitely noticed
that this couldn't have been based on a book because
there were things in this movie that you couldn't write well.
Speaker 2 (39:03):
So you could tell no, this isn't based on a book.
Speaker 1 (39:05):
Yeah, Like it doesn't translate like you could, like the
dance between them is so funny. There's no way to
make that funny in a book.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
To like physical type comedy you can't put in a book. Yeah,
I guess that that makes sense to me.
Speaker 1 (39:21):
And then also, of course, in a romance, your romance
is your central plot, right.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
And this was I think this would have had to
have been the first movie ever where it wasn't right.
Speaker 1 (39:33):
I was thinking, and this was just on the other
day Christmas with Holly, which I think actually is based
on a book, but I've never read the book, so
I don't know how far they deviated from it. There's
a romance in it, though, but it's not a secondary
it's more to me about the little girl. Oh Okay,
So maybe I don't know, but I just I thought
(39:54):
it was interesting, and I liked that it was written
by Paul Campbell and Kimberly Sustad. They are big homework staples.
They know how these movies go, and therefore I think
it was interesting that they made the choices that they did. Yeah.
I also loved that there was an epilogue. We've already
established I love epilogues and books and movies. I like
to know what happens to the people, and that is
(40:15):
why I typically like to write book series.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
So I'll have three books.
Speaker 1 (40:20):
And I will have characters showing up in the second
and third books that you get a chance to see,
like what happened they're still together, now they're married, or
now they're having a baby. But I do understand that
a lot of people do not like epilogues.
Speaker 2 (40:36):
I like epilogue. I liked this epilogue. I've never thought
enough to know if I always if I could like
make a general statement, Yeah, it would have been fun
in the epilogue to know who won the Spirit of
Christmas the following year, huh, if they were still going
against each other, or maybe they banded together.
Speaker 1 (40:53):
I would love if they like teamed up. Yeah, and
did like Andrew Walker's new house and then they all
to generous to there. Yeah, was Mark the neighbor married.
Speaker 2 (41:03):
I don't think so much.
Speaker 1 (41:05):
I don't remember, because if he wasn't, then maybe they
go on a cruise and then he meets the love
of his life.
Speaker 2 (41:12):
There you go next year's movie, and then you could
call it Three Wise Men and a Little Man.
Speaker 1 (41:19):
Yeah, I don't like it. Yeah, And the Toddler a lad.
Speaker 2 (41:25):
Well, that's it. That's the movie.
Speaker 1 (41:27):
I liked this one.
Speaker 2 (41:28):
Yeah, it was a good movie.
Speaker 1 (41:29):
And I think more importantly, every all, all of the fans,
this is what we needed to see. Good job homework.
All right. Well, I think that's it for us.
Speaker 2 (41:38):
Yeah, if you just so happened to like this podcast,
we'd love it if you could hit the subscribe button
and or give us a rating.
Speaker 1 (41:47):
Even if you don't like it, you could still subscribe.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
And you could fake your rating and still give us
a really good rating.
Speaker 1 (41:53):
Yeah, I like it.
Speaker 2 (41:56):
Anything else, Yeah, I think right.
Speaker 1 (41:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (41:59):
Well, this is Jenny saying.
Speaker 1 (42:00):
Cheers, and this is Carrie saying we'll see y Inns
next time. Merry Christmas.
Speaker 2 (42:07):
