Speaker 1 (00:00):
We've got the NBA Draft coming up on Wednesday, and
nobody better to talk about the draft than the great
Fran for Scilla of course ESPN College Basketball and NBA
draft analysts at Fran for Scilla on Twitter. And as
we say, hot Fran, thank you so much for the time.
I appreciate it so much.

Speaker 2 (00:19):
It's mad. It's a pleasure. Yeah, fire away, so much.

Speaker 1 (00:23):
Has been made progressive guest line brings you, Fran about
the draft and maybe the lack of quality. What you've
been so good in your career at helping us understand
are the Euros and this is going to be frankly,
very heavily influenced by European players.

Speaker 3 (00:39):
Fair not only European players. I would say French players three,
two could go in the top two.

Speaker 2 (00:48):
Really Sar and Resa Shay.

Speaker 3 (00:50):
We'll get into those guys, but four are definitely likely
in the first round and a fifth is hovering just
outside the first round. So yes, international players have overtaken Patrick.
As you know, the NBA twenty five percent of the
league now born outside the United States, but particularly France.
Last year Wemby and bill au Koula Bali, and this

(01:13):
year you know at least four in the first round,
maybe five, So you know, it's it's a phenomenon that
France has been so good at producing NBA players recently, and.

Speaker 1 (01:25):
Coola Bali came on late in the year for Washington,
so they're happy with that player. And I'm glad you
said it, fran Resa Chet because I was going to
watch that.

Speaker 4 (01:35):
Zachary Rishia say, I'm.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Here to help work with I'm here to help me
work with odds. I want you, he is, I want you.
I want you to be smart.

Speaker 3 (01:44):
I want you guys to sound smart on draft nights.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
He's the favorite.

Speaker 1 (01:48):
He's a big time favorite right now to go to
the Hawks one overall, tell me about the player.

Speaker 3 (01:54):
Six ' nine kid, remember nineteen years old. You know,
in a draft where there's so much uncertainty, I want
to say it's a bad draft because in twenty thirteen,
Giannis was taking fifteenth Rudy Gobert twenty seven.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
But in a draft where.

Speaker 3 (02:08):
There's so much uncertainty, Patrick, this young man, he's got
an NBA position and an NBA skill from day one.
He's a six ' nine wing who can shoot it,
put it on the floor. He's a good defender, He
played in a good league in France, which I said
earlier is producing a lot of NBA players, And he'll
play his entire NBA season almost as a nineteen year old.

(02:30):
So lots of upside, a lot of skill. You know,
when you're talking about ninety year olds, it's just like
a high school pitcher who throws ninety eight.

Speaker 2 (02:38):
You'd never know.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
But he certainly has a lot of potential to be
a very good NBA player.

Speaker 1 (02:44):
We're talking to the great Frand for Shiloh. Of course,
college basketball NBA draft analysts over at ESPN. You tweeted
out at fran Furschill, you tweeted out that you believe
Rob Dillingham Kentucky is the most skilled player Yeah in
the draft.

Speaker 4 (02:58):
Tell me more about the player.

Speaker 3 (03:01):
Well, Rob is a kid along with Ree Shepherd. Both
of those guys came off the bench for John Caliperry,
two highly recruited players. I think both of them were
I would have to say a surprise.

Speaker 2 (03:12):
Now, don't worry about coming.

Speaker 3 (03:13):
Off the bench because there's a kid playing in Phoenix,
but the name of Devin Booker who never started a
game at Kentucky. That's just how they roll down there
you got Maxie and Booker and now Malik Monk and
the Aaron Fox. John produces so many guards and oftentimes
they just pile up on each other while they're at Kentucky.
I mean, I don't think Jamal Murray was that heavily

(03:35):
thought of a prospect when Tyler Ewlis was there.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
This kid, at.

Speaker 3 (03:40):
Six ' two max is a scoring machine, a great handle,
not afraid to take big shots, shot forty four percent
from the field.

Speaker 2 (03:49):
In an ideal world. He is the perfect sixth man.
When you think back to the.

Speaker 3 (03:55):
MAVs in the Celtics last week, one of the MAVs
Achilles heels, they had no second units scoring whenever they
had to rest Luca and Kyrie.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
And this is a kid like.

Speaker 3 (04:04):
A Jamal Crawford, like a Lou Williams that in time
is a guy didn't come off the bench and get you,
you know, twenty twenty five points off the bench. And
I'm not saying that's exactly going to be his role,
but that's really where he's most suited for because he
does score like he breeds. But he has a very
underrated playmaking ability too, And that's why at six to two,

(04:26):
I think he is the most talented player inch for inch,
I should say in this draft.

Speaker 1 (04:31):
Now you mentioned Reesa Sha tried Alex Sar Fran was
the player in the name that we had been hearing
a lot about for a few months.

Speaker 4 (04:42):
Now can help us understand Alex.

Speaker 3 (04:43):
Sar absolutely easy name to pronounce. There Patrick, you know,
it's just like it says. But no, he's another French kid.
He you know, his father was a pro player. His
brother played at Wake Forest for a little while one
year and then off to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Work
in progress. Alex has been around forever. He started as

(05:04):
a fourteen year old signed by Real Madrid, the same
team obviously that produced Luka Doncic and so many others
and long athletics. Still has to get stronger, kind of
a modern NBA big showing a little bit of three
point shooting, touch shot blocker, just has to fill out.

(05:27):
He could go number one. Keep in mind he's got
a great agent, Bill Duffy's trying to manipulate the draft.
I think they want him in Washington for some reason.
But certainly he's a guy that could you can end
up hearing his name called when the Hawks do pick
modern center. Still has to get stronger. He's got what

(05:47):
I call no chest density right now, so he's going
to get pushed around. But again, nineteen years old. On
the upside, he's Jaron Jackson junior. At worst, he's Nick Claxton.
Not a bad NBA player, but not what you would
think if you were being if you were being taken
number one or number two in this draft.

Speaker 1 (06:05):
Fran a gentleman that I know. He's twenty four years old.
But Dalton Connect is going to be a ten year pro.
He's going to score. Is he a name that's being
talked about as a lottery pick? Where's Dalton Connect from Tennessee?

Speaker 2 (06:20):
Absolutely? Absolutely.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
And here's the crazy thing about Dalton Connect. Last year
second team All Big Sky, this year first team All
American SEC Player of the Year. Crazy, great shooter, very athletic.
Kind of reminds me of Pat Connaton up in Milwaukee,
who is a great athlete, would have been pitching in
the major leagues if he wasn't playing for the Milwaukee Bucks.

Speaker 2 (06:44):
And probably a better shooter than Pat.

Speaker 3 (06:46):
And again I think definitely, i'd say before twelve, someone's
going to take him because in this draft there's a
lot of guys. There's a guy at ESPN that always
says about players, not a good shooter, but he can
take a shot, And I never figured out what that means.
This kid is a good shooter and he can make shots,
and so a team is going to draft him basically

(07:09):
on his long range sniper ability. Not a good defender,
and he is a little older, but if you need shooting,
he's right there, you know, on your bulls eye if
you're looking at him.

Speaker 4 (07:21):
Frank, give me a player you'll like.

Speaker 1 (07:23):
Give me a player that obviously being discussed, but maybe
not as much. I know you mentioned Dillingham.

Speaker 4 (07:29):
Can you give me one more name?

Speaker 2 (07:31):
Yeah, I think I can.

Speaker 3 (07:32):
I'll how about Bub Carrington from the Pittsburgh Panthers. He's
one of the youngest players in this draft. Wasn't a
top one hundred player last year coming out of Baltimore.
Baltimore kids are generally guys that come to college in
the NBA with a chip on their shoulder, and Bub
six ' five point guard was all acc rookie team,

(07:55):
tough kid gets into the paint, and I think he's
a guy that I think is probably going to go
in the middle of the first round. Big guard gets
into the lane, doesn't shoot it like Ty Halliburton, but
similar size and athletic characteristics, So he definitely jumps out
of me.

Speaker 4 (08:13):
And friend Bronnie James.

Speaker 1 (08:14):
Obviously, there's so much that goes into that conversation, but
just the player.

Speaker 4 (08:18):
Do you consider bron James to be a pro?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Not now and not probably for a while.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
Honestly, if he wasn't Bronnie James, he probably would not
be drafted. He's an athletic kid. You got to give
him some credit for missing half the year because of
the hard incident, which had to be scary. He's an
undersized two guard. Unfortunately he shoots poorly. Will somebody draft him?
I think they will, and then he's on his own

(08:49):
like it's almost like and again keep in mind, though
there's a lot of kids are just drafted in the
NBA who are the children of NBA players, there is
something about Bronnie having grown up around it.

Speaker 2 (09:01):
That helps him.

Speaker 3 (09:03):
But he was the third best guard at USC and
if he does get drafted, he's got a lot of
work ahead of him. But two things that I think
he can hang his hat on are is the fact
that he is a good athlete. He doesn't know how
to play, but he absolutely has to improve his shooting.
There's a kid at Northwestern, Boo Booie, who's the all
time leading scorer at Northwestern and was really one of

(09:23):
the best players in the Big Ten this year.

Speaker 2 (09:25):
He did not.

Speaker 3 (09:26):
Get invited to the Combine because Bronnie did. And there's
a bunch of kids out there like that are going
to be licking their chops once they get, you know,
to a summer league team as an undrafted free agent,
that are going to want to prove themselves. And whereas
on the other hand, no Faull to Bronni's in the
likelihood he's going to get drafted and then he's on his own.

Speaker 4 (09:46):
Fran, you're the best.

Speaker 1 (09:47):
We'll be watching on Wednesday, ESPN College Basketball, NBA Draft
analysts at Fran Fraschilla on Twitter.

Speaker 4 (09:52):
Thank you, Fran, appreciate.

Speaker 2 (09:53):
You, thank you, Patrick Okay.

Speaker 4 (09:56):
Thank you very much. Good job. Fran Fraschilla a great guy.
