Speaker 1 (00:02):
Hey it's Delilah, Thank you for stopping by.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
I have put together some of.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
My favorite radio moments here to share with you on
our daily podcast. One thing I've come to appreciate in
all my years on the air are callers who are
able to make light of even some of the hardest

(00:27):
or most complex situations. It just goes to show no
matter the challenge, it's the attitude that counts. Today, I'm
sharing a selection of callers who made me smile on
Hey it's Delilah, Hi Roy, Hello, welcome aboard. Thanks for
being here with us tonight. I hear you want to

(00:49):
say something special to the hard working dads out there.

Speaker 3 (00:53):
Yeah, there was a discussion the other night about all
the single moms, and I didn't hear a whole lot
about the single dads. So I kind of wanted to,
you know, point that out there are a lot of
single dads, and you know, it's it's tough for a parent,
a single parent raising their children, but in some cases
it's even tougher for the guys like me. I'm I'm

(01:15):
raising a daughter that I've been raising alone for the
last six years, and you know, it's tough. Rules are
different when it's a single father raising a daughter. But
she's an awesome kid. I can't imagine what I'd be
doing if it weren't for her. And it's something, but
it's somebody that told me eight years ago I had
to be a single dad right now, I would never

(01:36):
have never have imagined it, you know, not having my daughter.

Speaker 1 (01:41):
Custodial moms make up over fifty percent of our population.
Custodial dads make up less than eight percent, So you
you have challenges just in the fact that you are
such a minority. There's not much support out there.

Speaker 3 (01:52):
That was kind of what I was trying to get across. Yeah,
there's not I had. I had a situation not long
ago where I didn't need some help, but there weren't
any programs for single dads and so I had to
kind of find my own way.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Well, I nominate you to figure out a way to
help us get that information out there.

Speaker 2 (02:11):
And what can I play for your daughter tonight?

Speaker 3 (02:14):
Well, I actually would would like to play something. I'm
gonna see if you I'm gonna I'm gonna put a
challenge for you. I got a challenge for you here.
See if you can play something for both my daughter
and all the single dads.

Speaker 2 (02:26):
I'm glad she's got a daddy like you who's fighting
for her.

Speaker 3 (02:29):
She's a happy little girl now.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
God bless you.

Speaker 1 (02:32):
Honey, Hi, thank you for calling. This is Delilah. Who's
with me on the phone line.

Speaker 2 (02:44):
My name is Casey. Tell me who's on your heart tonight?

Speaker 4 (02:50):
My mother is actually okay.

Speaker 2 (02:52):
Tell me about Mama Bear.

Speaker 4 (02:54):
She was actually, well, she's the most amazing person in
the entire universe.

Speaker 1 (02:59):
And I'm not just saying that because I'm biased.

Speaker 4 (03:02):
She got her PhD in her fifties and she's a
professor at a university in California. But she was in
a car accident head on collisions almost a week and
a half ago, and so she's in the hospital and
I am making a cross country trip to see her.

Speaker 2 (03:21):
So is she okay?

Speaker 1 (03:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (03:23):
Actually, it is a miracle. She had no heightened injuries
at all, not even a scratch on her wife. But
she did have some broken bones and some internal bleeding
that everything has been taken care of, and she's still recovering,
of course, but she is crazy and happy and chipper
and still has her sense of humor as ever.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
So wow, what a miracle.

Speaker 4 (03:48):
Yes, very much.

Speaker 1 (03:49):
So I am so glad that you are calling with
hope and joy and the word miracle in your vocabulary
instead of you know what it could have been.

Speaker 4 (04:02):
Absolutely, It's one of those things that you know, you
just have to trust that God knows exactly boot the
path for you. And she has always been a believer
in that, And so I just said, Mom, I guess
you needed a vacation. But it's just it really is
one of those things that it's hard not to believe

(04:23):
in something bigger than that, because it could have been
a lot worse.

Speaker 1 (04:26):
Could have been a lot worse. Thank God that you
still got your mama bear here.

Speaker 5 (04:32):
Oh.

Speaker 4 (04:32):
Absolutely, and her birthday is tomorrow.

Speaker 2 (04:36):
Uh now, how perfect is this?

Speaker 4 (04:38):
Exactly?

Speaker 2 (04:39):
Is she on a restricted diet at the hospital.

Speaker 4 (04:43):
No, she is not. She just got on regular food.
So she got her Starbucks O meal.

Speaker 1 (04:49):
Good because that would be unfortunate if she was on
a restricted diet. Because I'm going to give you some
Fanny made chocolates to share with Mom to help her recover.

Speaker 4 (05:00):
Oh my gosh, she will go she'll go crazy.

Speaker 1 (05:03):
Now, you see why it's important she's not on a
restricted diet.

Speaker 4 (05:07):
Yeah, exactly. Yeah, she would have been human heartbroken and
it would be her raw cookie doo treat.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Yeah, these are medicinal. I am convinced.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
Well, thank you so very much.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
I appreciate it. Thank you for calling, Thank you for listening.

Speaker 4 (05:20):
Oh can you play me one song?

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Sure?

Speaker 4 (05:23):
The Fight Song by Rachel Platten.

Speaker 2 (05:36):
Hi is this Wayne?

Speaker 6 (05:37):
Hey, Delana? How you doing?

Speaker 2 (05:38):
I am wonderful, welcome aboard.

Speaker 6 (05:41):
Good. I appreciate it. I really appreciate your share. Thank you.

Speaker 1 (05:44):
So you wrote to us and told us of the
wonderful privilege that you just experienced a couple of months ago.

Speaker 6 (05:50):
Yes, I should did. It was a wonderful privilege to
be acoming American citizen.

Speaker 2 (05:54):
So tell me your story.

Speaker 6 (05:55):
Well, I think what happened was we had, you know,
my wife myself came over to the United States of
America probably about ten years ago for the first time,
and we studied over here and got our bachelor's degree here.

Speaker 2 (06:08):
You came here from where?

Speaker 6 (06:09):
From South Africa? And we had to return to South
Africa after our four years of studying in order to
await our American residency permits, and they came through about
seven years ago, and so we came back to the
United States, and we had to live here for five
years on an American residency permit before we could actually

(06:31):
apply for our citizenship. And once we're as soon as
we had been here for five years, we applied for
our American citizenship. We did that, you know, that was
something we did together. We just thought it'd be quite
romantic to be able to go through this whole wonderful
process together as a couple. And it was quite strange
because we sent our applications off in the mail in

(06:54):
the same envelope, and yet mine was the one that
came through first about four months ago, you know, telling
me to come in for my interview. And we were
kind of like worried, wondering what happened to Karen's because
you know, they never sent anything to her, you know.
And so I went in and got my Mercan citizenship
and everything, and we were kind of like a little

(07:14):
bit disappointed because we weren't able to do it together.
And then the consulate called my wife about about a
month ago and said it was time for her interview.
So I don't know how they got it separated, but
but she's she's an American citizen now as well. And
I just I'm just so proud of her for you know,
for you for you know, sticking it out over those

(07:34):
couple of months, you know, not sure what the situation was,
and you know, I just wanted to tell over the
radio tonight that she's a superb mother and she's a wonderful,
wonderful wife and my very best friend and just love
her with all my heart. And I'm very very proud
of her. So you're just excited, Oh yeah, I'm really
We're just really excited. The Lord has been so good

(07:56):
to us and has really blessed us in a wonderful
way as a family, and you know, we just give
him ultimately all the honor and glory, you know, for
his goodness to us. And we're just really excited to
be a part of this country. It's just a wonderful privilege,
it really is.

Speaker 4 (08:16):
Hi.

Speaker 2 (08:16):
Is this Juliet. Yes, it is Hi Juliet. This is Delilah.
So what can I do for you tonight?

Speaker 5 (08:22):
Well, I had had a fascinating experience and when I
came home from it, I thought this is very Delilah esque. Sadly,
while I was in college, I had been a victim
of a sexual assault. Didn't impede. My life went on,
you know, got married, happily, got divorced, but separate story.
But every five years i'd go back to the spot

(08:43):
just to sort of say thank you that I wasn't
harmed more and that nothing terrible, terrible happened. And so
when I went back after that, it was more as
I was thanking God that I was still alive, that
I was able to have children, all of that kind
of stuff. And it was the twentieth anniversary, and I
went back and on the exact spot where I had

(09:06):
been assaulted, someone had planted this gorgeous garden, and it
was filled with yellow tulips, which are my favorite flower
and my favorite color. And I just stood there and
I just knew that God was saying, it's so done,
it's you know, over, and that you live and that
you thrive, and that now it's a beautiful garden.

Speaker 1 (09:28):
Wow.

Speaker 5 (09:29):
And I just couldn't.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
You must have just had chill bumps covering your entire
being when you saw that.

Speaker 5 (09:36):
It was in the middle of the road, and I
couldn't even believe what I was seeing. And I'm an attorney,
so I've been able to help a lot of women
through this trauma and understand them when they go through it,
and so all the way around. Strangely, it's enriched my life.
If that doesn't sound too odd, well, they're recovering from it.
I didn't let it cripple me.

Speaker 2 (09:55):
That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

Speaker 5 (09:57):
That's exactly right, Delilah.

Speaker 2 (10:00):
God, bless you, bless you, bless you and me. You
have many more fields of tulips.

Speaker 5 (10:04):
Thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:05):
Yella is also my favorite color.

Speaker 5 (10:07):
By the way, oh wonderful. And just say a hello
to Monica shall be so thrilled.

Speaker 2 (10:11):
I will do that.

Speaker 1 (10:15):
I so hope you have enjoyed these radio moments as
much as I enjoy bringing them to you. I'll share
more with you each weekday on Hey It's Delilah.
