Speaker 1 (00:01):
From My Arm Radio, Common Enemy and Tender with TV
They Pal podcast, Hey Pal with Jared and David. Alright,
so we are back with Part two, Part two of
Michael straighthand Super Bowl Champion. Michael Strahand. What is that

(00:24):
super Bowl? Kyle? It's just the biggest sporting event in
American sports. Happens once a year. Does that? What is that?
Where Tom Brady comes from? That comes from? Yesterday comes from?
He's won seven super Bowls? That's insane. How many does
straighthand has one super Bowl with the New York Giants.
That's just unfair. He needs way more than that. He

(00:47):
actually deserved way more than that. But we know what's
incredible is he beat Tom Brady was Super Bowl. I
did know this while you did. Well, it's because you
told me right before. So okay, that makes sense. Still
now I know it though. That's important? Yes, yes you do.
So Part two with Super Bowl Champion Michael all right,

(01:07):
let me read. Let read the next question that day
broke for me? Yea? Why? Alright? So, so if you
didn't become a football player, I want to know what
what what does not famous Michael Strahand look like? What

(01:29):
what's he up to? Still? Handing me there of course
obviously not famous Michael straighthand regularly regular dude working, happy, laughing, like,
I don't think I would be a frustrated person. Where

(01:50):
would you be? I really don't like. Where would you
want to live? Like, where would I want to live?
I don't know. I'd probably be somewhere warm. I wouldn't
be up there freething. Yeah, I would probably be in
like North Carolina, Florida. I don't know if I ever
would have made it out to the West Coast, because

(02:11):
I mean, football took me the West Coast and and
and but now I love that. I love that, like
I love the West Coast. But yeah, I think i'd
probably be in like North Carolina. I'd be in Florida,
or i'd be in Texas, where my family's from. My
job would probably be I'd probably working at a T
and T selling you phone or something. Salesman of the Year.

(02:35):
Is that what the shirt is? Yeah? Yeah, you got
you kind of going on right now? Never it is
never too late. Salesman of the Year. I like that,
But I really I don't know. I think it would

(02:55):
be something very simple like that, to be honest with you, Yeah,
I don't think it would be anything like extravagant. Maybe
I'd be I'd be a garssman who knows, Yeah, something
something simple, But I'd be happy about that. I like that.
I like that important. All right. So you played football
in New York City, one of the toughest cities in
the world to be a professional athlete, and there wasn't

(03:18):
this thing called social media at the time. Um, what
advice do you have for these younger players to be
able to navigate around that and stay out of trouble
you And I've had this conversation with with our boy
Odell Beckham, you know, because he was in New York
at the time, and he was like, Michael didn't have
to deal with social media, you know what I mean?
So what advice do you have for these guys now

(03:38):
with the social media and the snapchat and the Twitch
and the triller and and everything that goes on. Let's see,
I'm glad I didn't grow have my career with that stuff. Um.
And and we did have it. Yeah with Odell. I
love old man. Oh, such a good guy, thank you
so much. Understood by people. Um, he is and and
and it's funny because talking to him and he's like, oh, yeah,

(04:01):
but you you don't understand I can don't understand it
and grow up with it. But Odell, I've been famous
a long time and it's been out here a long time.
So I think both sides. I got to do with
it now. And to be honest with you, your football fame,
it's okay. Football fame ain't real fame because you have

(04:21):
a very selected audience. Kyle would know who you were.
We're talking about. I've been lost right now what I'm
talking about. So it's like, you know, sports fame, and
I think you could feel like you're known by everybody,
but you're really not. Um, it's certain there are different

(04:42):
levels of it and you can'tnot Oh I hate when
guy to come out with social media. If you're not
doing the wrong thing something, you know, for the most parts,
you shouldn't have to worry about that. And you also
got to be smart enough to not get so involved
with it and worry about building like, uh, I'll see
something my brand, my brand, my brand, my brand. I

(05:02):
get sick of hearing that, Like even when people go, Michael,
you're a brand, I'm looking ain't a brand. It's made
like I don't. I don't hate that. I'm not a
I'm not a business. I'm a human being and being
that person who I am and has developed some businesses.
But I don't consider myself a brand. So the whole
social media part of when guys sit here and get
so concerned about I gotta put off this image and

(05:24):
be this way because I need to build us this brand,
be you, because the brand is about authenticity, okay, and
also every part of your life is not supposed to
be chaired with everybody. I'm like, oh my god, I
like Paul trying to get fired. Man, there's no way like,

(05:47):
oh what you're doing. I don't care what you're drinking.
I don't care what you're smoking. I don't care what
you're doing. You're not that out of it to be
sitting here putting that up and know that you're not
gonna get here back from now. Paul wanted to get
fired man, and I love Paul too. I was Lord,
I wasn't even to bring that up right now. Just

(06:07):
as we were talking about I was like, I just remembered.
I was like, oh my god, I can't believe that
just happened two days ago or three days ago. Yeah
what And I know, but but I'm almost liked this
too with Paul when he comes to Paul and what
he did on social media. Now when he comes back
or if he comes back on TV and podcast, whatever
he's doing, he has gotta go hard in the paint.

(06:29):
You can't be you can't all of a sudden try
to put the rabbit back in the half. Like nobody's
gonna look at Paul Piers and go, yeah, he's going
to church on Sunday. You know, it's like Paul Piers
to be the bad boy you are man lived that life,
because I think you'd be better served to say, Yo,
this is who I am, this is what I am.
This is because people are gonna respect that. People know

(06:52):
authenticity and they know you know when when you're not.
He's got to come back, and he's got to come back,
and Paul Rodman, thank you. That's how you roll. They
let that be the life you live in the stories
you tell. And I ain't gonna be mad at you.
I'm listen to him and probably live half the time
through what you're doing because now how I live. But

(07:13):
I respect what you're doing. That and Dennis Rodman, Dennis
Robin did it that way. He was exactly but you
can respect him for doing it that way as himself.
But these young guys, man, hey, concentrate on your business,
and your business is your game that you're playing. And
if you do well in the game that you're playing,
then all these things about building a brand, about getting recognition,

(07:35):
about all these things take care of itself because people
really respect success and nothing worse. And we've all seen
it where somebody is hand it okay, but they think
they're here because they have followers, you know, and it's
like that don't mean anything one too. Don't surround yourself

(07:56):
with people who always got their phones out trying to
you know, video you when you around them, or girls
who are doing this, or guys who are doing that,
like you can't have you can't have hanger on like
you gotta have authentic, real friends. And when you do
get to a certain level, you gotta learn to decipher

(08:16):
that even more because it's very hard. The bigger you get,
the harder is to tell who your real friend who's not.
And if you find that every time you go somewhere
that nobody hand, they don't even start patting their pockets.
That like they're looking for their wallet. That angels, right,
I've got friends who are broke who still trying to
chip man, you know what I'm saying. But at least
it's the effort like they have. They have self pride. Yeah,

(08:39):
they got some pride. And you got to know the intentions. Man.
You you can't have a girl who or or or
be in a relationship with someone who you don't respect
and expect for them to treat you with respect, someone
that you don't really value and you're just around and

(08:59):
one know, one of many and think that that person,
if they have an opportunity to use you, is not
gonna take that opportunity. Don't go anywhere. Hey, Pam will
be right back after a word from our sponsors. Alright,
so let me ask you this. We'll have a little

(09:20):
fun with your Fox NFL team. If you guys had
to play basketball, all right, and you were the head
coach of that crew Terry Bradshaw, Tony Gonzaz, Jimmy Johnson,
Howie Long and the great Jay Glazer. You're the coach.
Who's your scorer, who's your rebounder, who's your defensive whiz,

(09:40):
who's your clutch player? Who's your six man. Everybody's a
safe person, Tony Gonzalez, everybody who's your sixth man. A

(10:05):
matter of fact, I would put Tony up against the
rest of those guys in a game like you want
to gain four more, He's gonna win. I would love
to see that. You might have to work that out.
You might have to work that out. I would love
to see that. And I really thought very hard, like, man,
who would be okay? Six? I might even put anybody

(10:28):
with Tony. I don't want them to mess up his risk,
you know, and let a shoot her suit. Baby, you
don't mess that up. But we imagine passing jadaball Jake
didn't even get on the well, imagine Jay Glazer and
Jimmy Johnson. Who's winning that one on one game? Who's
winning one on one? Could you imagine how funny that
would be? Hey, we may have to bake this. I

(10:52):
want to see Jake Glazer and Jimmy Johnson played one
on one. That would be the most amazing thing ever.
Oh man, Jimmy's tall. The Jimmy just he might he might,
I don't know. But Jays scrappy, He's scrappy. If there
was ever any scrapping when you can't m m A
anybody in basketball. Jay probably there trying to do a

(11:14):
low leg kick or something that's leg. You can't do that.
He'd probably take the lebron chalk from the game and
just throw it in Jimmy's space. Am I right? All right?
So now it's time for you've made it to the hey,
pal playoffs. We do a playoff seating with movies, and uh,

(11:37):
Julian Edelman did the same seating, our buddy, Julian Edelman,
our pal. Uh. We are selecting the best football movie
of all time. All right. We had our audience give
us the eight seeds one through eight. Uh, Kyle take
it away, buddy. Here we go the one seed Jerry
McGuire versus the eighth seed, Little giants, who's moving on?

(12:01):
Mins moving on? Man one, I'm not even really a
football movie. Well you really? Yeah, it's a stretch. It's
a stretch. It's a love story, man, okay, Jerry McGuire.
Jerry McGuire A little even though that was kind of

(12:22):
iffy because no way rod Tidwill gets hit the endzone,
he's out. They're gonna let him get up on his
own and do cart wild and flips some place the
crowd and they let the agent on the field like that.
It doesn't happen. That was before concussion protocol, though, he
wouldn't have got it. Alright, next, alright, alright, alright, second seed.

(12:47):
Remember the Titans versus the seventh seed. Any given Sunday,
remember the Titans. Okay, yeah, any given Sundy guilty cut
that truck in half, pumping blue it up. That was
it for me. And then um and then you know Jamie,
Jamie gets um one team, he leads to a team
and and and I went two games thing. You know that. Man,

(13:10):
the national carts come on, Willie Beamon, women keep the
lady screaming. I think Hollywood needs to hire you as
a script consultant on these football movies. Dude, you're calling
all the holes out and understanding entertainment. They could be
a little more real time ahead. Alright, the third seed,

(13:31):
Rudy versus the sixth seed. Varsity Blues, Varsity Blues. Man.
I appreciate Rudy, and I know people love Rudy. That's
that's an upset. That's a huge upset people get attacked through.
I'm real, man, I agree with I know they made
that story about Rudy. It's supposed to be real, and

(13:51):
Rudy the real guy. He's the real guy. They know
where Hell, Rudy got beat up like that every day
in practice. It was able to even walk when they
put him in the game. Come on, plusters, there's no
whipped cream bikini and Rudy so obviously pretty damn good. Yeah,
I have to watch that one tonight, all right, Fourth
Seed Friday Night Lights, Fifth Seed, water Boy, the water

(14:14):
Hell Yeah that that that that right? The water Boys amazing.
W Yeah, it's pretty incredible. All Right, we're gonna take
a little break. We're gonna put you in the Haypal

(14:36):
penalty box. I'm gonna ask you a series of questions.
You just answer the first thing that comes to mind,
super easy, favorite cereals, frosted flakes. Nice. If you could
only have one meal the rest of your life, what
would it be? Pizza? I'm with that, which pizza Chicago,
New York with style? Damn Well, if I could only

(14:59):
have one food, I'm get that deep. Yes, Giordano's lose
Pizza d A and Giordano's is great. Yeah, okay, that's
what I had last time. I got there. I'm with that.
Uh superpower. If you could have one superpower, what would
it be? Man, I don't know if I want to

(15:21):
fly or be invisible. That's always the common two, that's
always the Yeah. Man, I think if I could have
a superpower, I probably want to be invisible. Invisible, all right,
I like that because because figure out what's going on
in business. Yeah, there, that's true. I like that, all right.

(15:41):
Michael Jackson or Prince Damn, Man, come on, man, you
can't do that. I just did. You're in the penalty box, baby, Damn.
I know. I know. It's a brutal question. It's brutal.
There's pros and cons. Michael, there's pros and cons. I'm not,

(16:09):
damn you man, that I'm not doing. I'm not disrespecting
the legs. Shoot him one man? All right, Okay, who
did you? Who would you pick? That's what I'm throwing
it back at you. Who would you pick? Michael Jackson
or Prince? I mean, it is so difficult, and I'm

(16:32):
glad that I'm not in the penalty body. Yeah, you
can't ask us questions. You're on ourselves. I was fortunate
enough to meet both of them. I was fortunate enough
to see both of them perform. Um. Prince did one
of the most badass things I've ever seen in my life.
He got up at a club one time and he
performed with his back to the audience for an hour
and a half. I think, I gotta go print and
just crushed it. He just crushed it. But I saw

(16:54):
him at the rower vel Yeah, a little private room
back in the roller Vela. And then and I mean,
but Michael Jackson, like the Body of Work, and in
all the years that I mean, it's it is next
moon when hit that Moonwalk to oh Man, I remember that,
like yesterday, I'm a kid? What TV? I mean, what
about that? The Victory Tour with the Jackson five, I mean,

(17:17):
that's it's unbelievable. The music videos, I don't know. But
then you Michael Princess Purple Rain though, which is incredible.
That movie. I mean, it's it's am I being forced
to So you picked prints. I'm going with prints. You're
going with print? Why are you going prints? You know why?
It's personal because I used to have family in Minnesota.
I don't get to drive by his compound all the time.

(17:39):
And I'm like Prince, so I have a personal connection
to Prince. Okay, so that's why I connected. He never
invited you intoday time. No, No, I just saw it
from like three three four miles away. But that was
close that I ever got to Michael Jackson, I haven't
I have a connection. We lived in New York. I

(18:01):
didn't say I met the man. I just said I
saw his compound about walking on the streets. All right,
I think you should host this show just a lot more, man,
because you you really don't know. He don't. He don't, dude.
I'm a producer. I'm not a talent. Okay, leave me.
You know, you know, you know the other thing about
your talented producers. The other thing about Prince. You know

(18:23):
he was a great basketball player. Did you know this? Yeah,
great old Charlie Murphy story, the real man. Yep, yep, yeah,
you know. And and and then like, um, I know
some stories from you know, some people who had been
around Prince quite a bit. And I was at the
place called, um I get down Groove. It's a place

(18:44):
down in the each village called Groove, which is just
live band spot. And I used to go there basically
like every Thursday with my boy and always took friends
down live band Leonard was the band. They would crush it.
He's got incredible and and and I go there one
Thursday and they're like, Michael, yeah, you know, your table's ready,
blah blah blah, usual spot, but somebody is there, uh,

(19:07):
and we hope you that we don't think you're gonna
mind And I walk in there and it's prints and
I'm like wha. I sit there the whole night and
Prince is like right there and are right And I'm
just like, I got friends in the biggest head man
for a little dude, but I guess you gotta have

(19:29):
a big brain and that sucker to do what he
was able to do. But it was just it was
kind of like mind blowing and his his backup sink
itself Shelby j Well get up with getting what's gonna
sing that night because he was I love how he
supported his people, like you know, that was the real
cool thing to see him out there in the middle
of this this place groove down in these village, sitting

(19:50):
there at the table with like us and just watching
Shelby do her thing. And I'm still great friends of
her to this day. And I've been a big Prince
fan man. And I saw Michael Jackson p us in
two um and in Concept as well. And I don't
know too hard. It's both give me so much joy
and different kind of moves that you asked this question

(20:10):
like thirty minutes ago. Anyway, I'm sorry, I don't know.
It's okay, I love it. Well, I'm gonna I'm gonna
tell one more funny Prince story. So he played at
a club in l A called the Sayers Club. He
did like a random, yeah, like a Thursday night, and
I invited Chris Evans at the time, and uh with
the Avenger, you know, the actor y Chris Evans, and uh,
I'm aware. Prince gets off stage and he's sitting in

(20:32):
a booth and he's got like, you know, six beautiful
women in him in the corner booth whatever, and and
Chris and I walked by to go to the bathroom,
and Prince grabs him by the arm and he goes, Dave,
I'd like to meet Captain America. He didn't say, Chris sevens.
He didn't know who the hell Chris Evans was. He
just knew who Captain America was. So he goes I'd

(20:54):
like to meet Captain America. So I go up to
Chris and I go, bro, I know this sounds crazy,
but Prince wants to say hello to Captain America. And
he was like, are you kidding me? He wants to
say hi to me? I go, I don't know if
you want to say? How do you? He wants to
say hi to Captain America? So I brought him over.
It was it was really funny. It was really cool.
Did Chris go out to his car and get his
shield before he needed to? He definitely needed to, all right.

(21:20):
So with that being said, we're not going to answer
that question. Kyle, you have a good question. We'll put
in place of that. You say, I am a good question.
So this is my favorite question, and this is if
you pull up to a parking spot at the same
time another dude pulls up to a parking spot, it's
the last spot? Who's getting the spot? Me and you?

(21:43):
I'm getting What's what I'm saying? Yeah, it's not me.
I'm taking I'm taking right, okay, all right? Or you
or you know what? Or you think another way? Right?
I and my younger me, I probably said I'd take
the spot. My older me. Let you have the spot,
because if I take the spot, and that's the dispute,

(22:04):
I might come out and something might be wrong with
my car. And one thing I learned, just parked further
back and walk and and and be lucky and joyful
in the fact that you can walk. So use your
legs while you can't, because at some point your life
you may not be able to. Ye. That was a
great answer, great answer, all right. Last penalty question. What
is your go to karaoke song? Michael Strahan, I know

(22:26):
you have one bon Jovi. Wow, Johnny used to work
on the docks union being on strike, down and done
all day. Yeah, keep going, you got it. She brings

(22:49):
all my pain. You know you gotta hold to what difference?
Make it love? That is amazing. All right, you are

(23:11):
out of the hay Pal penalty box. Amazing, Michael Strahan,
don't go anywhere. Hay Pal will be right back after
a word from our sponsors. Uh, let's get this football
seating done with. We have Jerry McGuire now versus the

(23:33):
water Boy. Water Boy, water Boy sets the number one seed,
open up cannon and we got Remember the Titans versus
Varsity Blues. Remember the type. All right, So our championship

(23:54):
comes down to remember the Titans versus the water Boy
Michael Strahan, who is our winner? Damn Man, I ain't, hey, pal,
I didn't expect this. On this check um, the winner
would be. Man, it's all about moods. This one's all

(24:26):
about moods. I mean he's a complete spectrum. Yeah, yeah,
like my man gets to the character. Did that's like
the other one. I'm laughing at they eating gator with
Mama at the house. I mean, look when you're laughing
when you're trying. All right, Man, Okay, I don't go
in to water boys. Boy. All right. This was the

(24:51):
exact same This was the same finals, same finals with Edelman,
but Edelman the Titans. So yeah, you know my because
you know, Julie has always been like that. I've always
kind of been against the odds, but he's been more
against the so I think remember to type the more
against for him me the water Boys, like well, you
know Bob. All right. Michael Strahan, I can't thank you enough. Brother.

(25:18):
I appreciate you so much. I know how insanely busy
you are. I love you. I do not love the Giants,
but I love you. I'm always gonna be rooting and uh,
that's it. Thanks for putting up with me. Thanks this,
Thanks for allowing me to watch sports again. I appreciate that. Hey,
you know what, I appreciate it. Kyle, thank you so
much for joining. Man. I know Dave will need a
little help, and you stepped up to help you. Boy. Man,

(25:40):
that's a real good friend. You are a very talented producer. Um.
You know you don't know jack about sports, which is
fine because you know we can talk about anything you want.
And Dave, oh you know, I love you man, the
reason I'm you know, I love you. Anything you ask
and you followed through. You want a few people from
day one and now you've never changed. You've always been
the same and I him to appreciate that about you.

(26:02):
And I've seen you in l A. I think it
is reel. I've singing all over the damn place. Was
amazing to beat yep. And you're from Philly and I
don't like usually Philly stuff. Right, so you're wearing that
Philly shirt. I know you got the Eagles outfit there.
Could you do me a faith? Could you please take
them and go right behind your right shoulder to that

(26:24):
toilet I've seen and flushed them. Yes, never, my friend. Never.
I love you, bro, Thank you so much. Many'll have
a good meeting. Man. Wow, dude, that guy is the greatest.
Even though he made fun of me, it's almost as
much as you did. I still respect the man. He

(26:44):
did make a lot of fun of It was well
deserved myself. But I mean, how can how can you
not love him? You can see why America loves him.
I mean you talked to him, to interact with him,
and you're like, that's a guy that should be he
should run president, you know what I mean. He's just
that that great of a guy. He literally can do

(27:05):
anything he puts his mind to. He's just got what
it takes. Yeah. And such a blessing to have him
as a guest and and to be one of our pals. Yeah.
I really enjoyed that episode. I hope you guys did too.
Um Man, it's gonna be a tough one to beat.
Good call, good call bringing him in. It's amazing that
we even got the guy. He's busier than Ryan Seacrest.

(27:25):
I mean, his schedule is absolutely absurd, and uh, you know,
I had thought he had been doing lots and lots
of podcasts, but he explained that he really had been
very selective of him and hadn't really done too many
of them at all. So, um, just I don't even
know what to say. He's just awesome, all of them
to death. It's amazing. Well, obviously, you know, you guys
are very close, and that's the relationship is is worth

(27:45):
him getting on you know, and spending some time when
he just needs to be at home chilling with his family.
There you go. It's amazing and Enzo and end Zo. Alright, Pal, Well,
maybe I'll see you next week. I don't know where
the fox Jared could be, could be not, I don't know. Uh,
you know, Jared at this point could have moved on
to the championship in Tokyo, Japan, for all I know,
for the Mario Kart Cart Championships. Yeah, we don't know.

(28:08):
We have no idea. I looked it up and I
don't think it really exists, but it exists somewhere in
his brain. Yeah, well, no, it definitely exists. Go get him, Pal,
Good luck, Jared, Press those buttons, buddy, all right man.

On Purpose with Jay Shetty

I’m Jay Shetty host of On Purpose the worlds #1 Mental Health podcast and I’m so grateful you found us. I started this podcast 5 years ago to invite you into conversations and workshops that are designed to help make you happier, healthier and more healed. I believe that when you (yes you) feel seen, heard and understood you’re able to deal with relationship struggles, work challenges and life’s ups and downs with more ease and grace. I interview experts, celebrities, thought leaders and athletes so that we can grow our mindset, build better habits and uncover a side of them we’ve never seen before. New episodes every Monday and Friday. Your support means the world to me and I don’t take it for granted — click the follow button and leave a review to help us spread the love with On Purpose. I can’t wait for you to listen to your first or 500th episode!
