Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Morning Run. We made it.
It's Friday, November fourteenth. That made me robots and I'm TJ.

Speaker 3 (00:13):
Holmes. Which you want to do this weekend? But if
you want to go for a hike in a national park,
it's open.

Speaker 2 (00:18):
Wow. I never thought i'd hear you say that.

Speaker 3 (00:20):
Well, I go to the Smithsonian. Maybe do some museum
hopping this weekend. We could do that too, Wow, because
we are open for the first time it's been month
there something like the Smithsonian Museum is available for us
all to enjoy once again.

Speaker 1 (00:35):
Yes, and federal workers are finally going to get paid,
which is going to allow them to travel to DC
and go to the Smithsonian or at least get on
a plane and not experience or expect delays or cancelations.

Speaker 3 (00:48):
Well, we can't make any promises there yet. But on
the other fronts, at least we did see literally see
people walking into their office building, their federal office buildings
yesterday is going to be going on again today. The
money is coming for them. That's all good news. Backpayd
supposed to start as early as this weekend.

Speaker 2 (01:05):
That's fantastic. That is wonderful to hear it and shocking.

Speaker 3 (01:09):
Actually, yeah, the government is all of a sudden working quickly, inefficient,
and also the snap benefits gonna be going out and
everybody's getting their full benefits from November. That is some great,
great news to hear. Now, the air travel you just
mentioned ropes, it is gonna take them a couple of
days to get back up and running in full schedules.
But we've seen a severe drop off in cancelations and

(01:30):
delays related to anything shut down.

Speaker 1 (01:32):
Yeah, everybody's just gonna have to deal with the regular
delays and cancelations that we always potentially face.

Speaker 3 (01:38):
Yeah, they're he's gonna go back to pissing you off
for normal reasons this time, and you can't blame that,
you know what, They had a built in excuse governments
shut down.

Speaker 2 (01:45):
What are you gonna do?

Speaker 3 (01:46):
But now it's all back on them. Also, we'll get
to on this Friday morning run a firing squad, execution,
a mission to Mars Cardi, B's baby, familiar MVPs, BBC's
apology to Trump. A former ABC the colleague of ours,
has passed away. Cynthia Arrivo, don't play. Also, Trump ran
into a glass door, California's rain worries, and a stressed

(02:10):
out death row inmate. We got to get to all
of that today. But Rose we talk about they're starting
to get paid. Some of the folks that are going
to be paid in the federal government going to get
even more.

Speaker 1 (02:20):
I love this story because it actually was built in
after the fact, a reward for folks who did the
right thing for no other motivation other than to do
the right thing. Some TSA agents are about to get paid,
but we're not talking about their back pay. Some are
going to get ten thousand dollars bonuses for how they

(02:40):
performed during the shutdown. Here's what Homeland Security Secretary Christy
Nome said in her announcement. She said agents who exhibited
exemplary service during the shutdown would be getting those bonuses.
Those who stepped up, taking on extra shifts, showing up
each and every day.

Speaker 2 (02:55):
And it isn't just the TSA agents.

Speaker 1 (02:57):
We obviously heard Trump earlier say that he wants to
extend that same courtesy to air traffic controllers who also
showed up.

Speaker 3 (03:05):
We don't know how strict this criteria is going to be.
Obviously they can't give it to everybody, can't afford it,
but stepped up, took extra shifts, showed up each and
every day. Trump, you also said folks that didn't miss work.
So I wonder if that's going to be a part
of it. You have to come in every single day
and didn't miss anyone.

Speaker 1 (03:21):
I would imagine that would have to be the bar
at which it's said. But I have to say, for
all of us who pay our taxes, I love thinking
about tax paying dollars going to reward these folks.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
You know exactly what is going towards. Yes for change, Yes,
so great for them. Continue here on this Friday morning run.
A lot of the governments shut down headlines have been
replaced by the Epstein email headlines the last couple of
days because Trump's name keeps showing up. The emails that
keep showing up a part of that newly released stack
of twenty thousand plus documents released this week by the

(03:55):
House Oversight Committee.

Speaker 1 (03:56):
Here are some of the latest newly discovered emails. There
was an exchange with a reporter where Epstein said Trump
almost walked through the door, leaving his nose print on
the glass as young women were swimming in the pool,
and he was so focused he walked straight into the door.
In another, Epstein says to someone, would you like photos
of Donald and girls in bikinis in my kitchen?

Speaker 3 (04:18):
And another exchange that included a photo of a woman,
Epstein wrote, quote my twenty year old girlfriend in ninety
three that after two years I gave to Donald. Another
one that's been released, saying this, I've told you I've
met some very bad people, none as bad as Trump,
not one decent cell in his body.

Speaker 1 (04:38):
The initial selective release of some of these emails this
week by Democrats set off a new round of Epstein headlines,
and there has been a steady trickle of new revelations
each and every day.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
I have to tell you, these.

Speaker 1 (04:50):
Are shocking to think they've been there all along and
we're just now getting this trickled out release of these emails.
The White House continues to say, regards list of all
the headlines, that the emails prove nothing other than the
fact that President did nothing wrong.

Speaker 3 (05:08):
Yes, some of them are embarrassing, make you ask questions
about the relationship, but nothing in here says the President
Trump did anything illegal. He has never been the subject
of any investigation that was a part of Epstein, So
that has to be said every time. Also, want to
continue on this run now, and we're staying on the
Trump front here. The BBC has apologized to the President

(05:29):
in hopes of not being sued up the wazoo.

Speaker 1 (05:31):
Yes, because if his history repeats itself, that is what
the next step would be. Right. Trump threatened to go
after the British broadcaster for one billion dollars for how
it edited his January sixth speech to supporters. So it
showed him saying fight like hell, but they did not
include where he urged them to protest peacefully. So the
chair of the BBC sent a personal letter to the

(05:53):
White House excepting that the edit did create the wrong
impression that Trump was calling for violence.

Speaker 3 (05:59):
However, they rejected the President's claim that he had been
defamed by their edit. Now, the way of putting that is,
we ain't about to pay you a billion dollars. We'll
see where this goes. He demanded an apology. Maybe that'll be.

Speaker 2 (06:10):
It all right?

Speaker 1 (06:11):
Next up on the run, the death row inmate, who
was granted clemency moments before his scheduled execution yesterday, was
later found unresponsive in his cell. We are talking about
Tremaine Wood. We have been talking about him extensively over
the past couple of weeks. Well, he had to be
taken to the hospital after what corrections officials described as
a medical event that resulted in injuries.

Speaker 3 (06:32):
That he was scheduled to die yesterday by lethal injection.
At ten am local time, the governor commuted his sentence,
and by a lot of the local reporting, I couldn't
believe they say literally it was commuted at nine fifty nine,
one minute before he was scheduled to die.

Speaker 1 (06:50):
Now.

Speaker 3 (06:50):
Afterwards, Wood met with his attorneys and was moved off
death row and was later found unresponsive and alone in
his new cell.

Speaker 1 (06:58):
He later told prison officials he laid down to sleep
and the next thing he remembered was waking up in
the infirmary with a busted head and lip. It was
determined that that medical event was due to dehydration and stress.
You can only imagine one minute before your schedule time.

Speaker 3 (07:13):
Today, I thought he's going to die. I can't imagine
how that feels. And this was yesterday, so this might
have been yesterday afternoon. His last meal was at six
o'clock the night before his final meal as we say,
my goodness, continue on the run here and on this
execution front, if you will. Florida has now doubled its
previous record for most executions in a year. The state
carried out it's sixteenth execution of the year last night.

Speaker 1 (07:38):
Brian Jennings was pronounced dead at six twenty pm after
being administered a lethal injection. He was convicted for the
nineteen seventy nine abduction, rape, and murder of a six
year old girl. He had no final statement before he
was executed.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
And tonight then in South Carolina, there will be another execution,
convicted triple murderer Stephen Bryant, scheduled to die by firing
squad in that state. I believe, the third such execution
in that state this year. Continuing on the run, now
we head out West California. Folks out there about to
get dumped on parts of the state, expecting to get
as much rain in the next couple of days as

(08:14):
they would get over several months. This is described as
a rare one to two punch of storms.

Speaker 1 (08:19):
Northern California started getting hit first yesterday and could end
up with six inches of rain, and that heavy rain
is expected to start today last through the weekend in
the LA area, causing flooding and possible mudslides. Torrential rains
are being forecast to drop two to four inches of
rain on LA. Their average for the month of November
about three quarters of an inch of rain, So this

(08:40):
is significant for them.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
All right, continuing on the run now in a set
note here from well for ABC News and one of
our former colleagues, long time ABC News corresponding Jim Avola,
has passed away at the age of seventy. The network
made the announcement yesterday that he'd passed after a long illness.

Speaker 1 (08:56):
Jim joined the network back in two thousand and four,
where he'd did just about everything. He was White House
correspondent for a while. He served as a twenty twenty correspondent.
He got called up to the network after working at
k NBC and covering the OJ Simpson trial. I remember
when I first came to ABC, I had worked with
Jim Avola at NBC, and so I didn't even realize.

(09:18):
But you know, when you introduce a reporter and you
say ABC's Jamavola is standing by at the White House.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
I said NBC's Jim Avela while I was at ABC.

Speaker 1 (09:27):
And yes, I remember, he has worn many hats and
he had a long and storied career.

Speaker 3 (09:32):
I'm sure that was your only slip up.

Speaker 2 (09:34):
Oh, it's the only mistake I ever made.

Speaker 3 (09:36):
So that's a tiny one too. But yes, I know
that network, and somebody's been around that long, has a
lot of friends and former colleagues, so a lot of
people are thinking about him. We'll stay with us folks
here on this Friday morning run. When we come back Mars,
MVPs and money, plus, we all need a Cynthia Arivo

(09:57):
in our corner.

Speaker 1 (10:06):
Continuing on our Friday morning run. Next up, Blue Origin
successfully launched its new Glen rocket yesterday from Cape Canaveral
for a mission to Mars. It's carrying two NASA spacecraft
that will explore the Red planet for a full year.
When it finally arrives, yeah.

Speaker 3 (10:23):
It's gonna take a minute. It's not gonna get there
until sometime in twenty twenty seven. This is the first
Blue Origin successful recovery of their booster rocket. This is
how they save money. They put these huge rockets that
blast these things in the space and then the rocket
can come back down and land specifically safely on a

(10:44):
platform in the middle of the ocean. Elon has been
doing this for a while, we've seen him do it
over and over, but this is the first time that
Jeff Bezos company Blue Origin has ever pulled this off.

Speaker 1 (10:53):
We actually happened to watch it live and it was
really cool to see that much excitement. It wasn't manned,
there's no one on board, and usually you see that
kind of fanfare when people are going up and risking
their lives. But it was cool to see the genuine
excitement from folks on the ground.

Speaker 3 (11:08):
This is the most excited I've ever seen anybody in
a launch. And I took the opposite approach that they're
not as stressed, because that's true.

Speaker 1 (11:17):
So it's just about cheering and if it goes wrong,
oh well, just a couple whatever, one hundred million, I
don't know how much of these things cost.

Speaker 3 (11:23):
Really, they were screaming. I've never heard that type of
reaction in a launch. I have not seen a bunch
of these.

Speaker 1 (11:28):
Well, you and I covered Michael straight ahead and going
up into space, and like, were we even that excited
about straight ahead as they were? Oh no, we were
nervous I was so nervous, I actually felt every muscle
in my body tends up. All right, Well, congratulations to them.
Next up on the run, congratulations are in order as
well for show, Hey Otani of the Did I say
that right? Damn it?

Speaker 3 (11:49):
I was so ready to just roll? You said it right?
Get nervous yourself?

Speaker 1 (11:55):
I did it.

Speaker 2 (11:56):
I got scared. I was looking at your face.

Speaker 1 (12:01):
Got to trust myself, Okay, show Hey Otani, The champion
LA Dodgers and Yankees slugger Aaron Judge were announced as
league MVPs yesterday.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Both had been there, done that multiple times before.

Speaker 3 (12:13):
Yeah. This is Ohane's Otani's fourth National League MVP award.
He's only the second player to win at least four
of these, and he is the only player to now
win MVP unanimously more than once. And on the Aaron
Judge side, this is the third time he's been named
American League MVP.

Speaker 1 (12:32):
So proven to be like the best of the best, repeatedly, repeatedly.
All right, Next up on the run, Congratulations to Cardi
B and Stefan Diggs.

Speaker 2 (12:41):
The rapper and the NFL receiver. Welcomed a baby boy.

Speaker 3 (12:45):
A lot of you will remember she made the announcement
about her pregnancy in September to much fanfare, but she
also announced new album, also announced new tour that is
going to start at the beginning of next year, and
she's already getting ready for that Zager. But on Instagram
you talked about this quote. I brought new music and
a new album to the world, a new baby into
my world, and one more reason to be the best

(13:07):
version of me. She has four kids and now the
other three with her ex offset and if you want
to know anything about the relationship, listen to her latest album.
Oh No, she goes through it all.

Speaker 2 (13:18):
She goes off on off set.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
She go like every song almost it's a good album.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
Okay, might have to take listen to that one, all right.

Speaker 1 (13:26):
For the final leg of our run, you asked me,
have you seen the videos? I looked at the video
and I was like, damn, that was awesome. Everybody needs
a friend like Cynthia Arrivo. This actually was a scary
moment at the premiere of Wicked for Good in Singapore.
You see a guy just jump right over the barricade

(13:47):
and rushed the stars of the movie on the red carpet.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
He was headed.

Speaker 3 (13:51):
Yes, Beline the area Rundez for he went right to her.
So he goes over, puts his arm around her. Now,
Cynthia Arrivo was standing right next to Ariana Grande as
they were posing for pictures. She beat security to the punch.
She did not hesitate, she did not get nervous, she
did not flee. She immediately put herself between Ariana Grande

(14:15):
and this guy and shielded her.

Speaker 2 (14:17):
It was instinctual, you could tell.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
I actually watched it so many times, and I couldn't
believe the security guards weren't even looking they were their
heads were like somewhere else. And to know Cynthia, actually
I thought she was. There was someone in between them,
it was Arianna. I couldn't tell who was in between them.
And then Cynthia was on the far side. And the
fact that she had yes, yes, yes, yes, yes exactly.
Of course we love her. She was able to. I

(14:41):
was so impressed. It was instinct, instinct. And for who
the hell was this guy? Apparently he didn't meet her
any harm. This is a guy who runs an Instagram
account in which he does this. He videos himself rushing
celebrities at events. That's awful, But we're celebrating Cynthia. If
this dude meant ariana grande harm, she would have been harmed. Correct,

(15:05):
This is a problem.

Speaker 3 (15:06):
The access he got to her is terrifying and even
their reaction afterwards didn't seem strong enough. This guy should
have been.

Speaker 1 (15:14):
Pummeled, agreed, And you know, you don't know who you're
dealing with. This was outside in a crown. He could
have had a knife, he could have had a gun,
he could have had a taser, he could have had
anything on him. And to your point, Cynthia Aravia Arivo
was truly courageous, like she acted without thinking. It was
brave and you could tell she was there. She was
there to defend.

Speaker 2 (15:33):
It was impressive.

Speaker 3 (15:34):
We are impressed and fans of her as we all are,
and her talent. This is one of those like okay
her it just shot up tenfold for me, my fan.
What was the guy's sexiest man in the world was Bailey?

Speaker 2 (15:47):
Jonathan Bailey?

Speaker 3 (15:48):
Yes, yes, same thing. When I learned about him, It's
not a matter of his art, which he is a
great artist. When you start learning about and you seeing
some of who they are, come out like this good thing,
Cynthia Revio thing folks, get you. Tonight's the night. Nine
hundred and sixty five million dollars on the line.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Right. We haven't gotten our It's been really cold and
windy here, but we got to get out.

Speaker 2 (16:07):
We gotta get out, and we got to get our
lottery tickets.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
Yes, five million, I will deal with the wind. Okay,
but that is the night. They haven't had a winter
since June. But four hundred about four hundred fifty million
dollars to take the cash option. But the Mega Millions
jackpot drawing is tonight, so do not miss that. All right,
before we let you go, something we want to leave
you with. It is our quote of the day. Something

(16:32):
we want you to consider now, robes again, We've been
has been all week.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
You have handled quotes of the week all week long.

Speaker 3 (16:41):
Wow, I love it. This will be the final one.
I have a couple of options, and I'm making up
my mind even as I speak which one I want
to hit you with. So I will I'll go with
this one.

Speaker 2 (16:50):
I've read none of them, so bring it.

Speaker 3 (16:52):
Here you go. Here's the quote. Is your mouth a
blow torch or a water fountain? We should be refreshing
other people from what comes out of us.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Oh ah, you liked it.

Speaker 1 (17:07):
I do.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
I hadn't thought about it like that.

Speaker 1 (17:09):
But yes, your mouth, your words can either be weapons
or they can be a warm blanket, a comfort, a
feeling of love, and it's your choice.

Speaker 2 (17:18):
I love that.

Speaker 3 (17:19):
I love that you've got it to me that this
was from the files. I believe it was my pastor.
But folks, ask yourself that maybe before you speak, is
your mouth a blowtorch or a water fountain. We should
be refreshing people by what comes out of us. With that, folks,
we oh, we'd appreciate you running with us.

Speaker 2 (17:38):
I'm Tjan and I'm Amy Robock. We hope you all
have a wonderful weekend.

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
