what we do. Okay, this is what podcasting is all about.

This is why we love the medium. We are getting
so granular here. We are rewatching Gilmore Girls from the beginning,
but on this little excursion we have started again. We
are rewatching it from the beginning. But are we analyzing
the characters?

Are we talking about the writing, the music. Here's what
we're doing. We're looking at the wardrobe. We're looking at
the fashions. Baby, that's right. It is Star's Hollow Style.
We are turning the gazebo into a runway. And this
week we're talking about season one, episode ten, Forgiveness and Stuff. Man,
what an episode. Lots of great looks in this episode.

We're gonna go through them all and here's what we're
gonna do. Okay, if you're new here, if you stumbled
onto this, if you just closed your eyes and downloaded
a random podcast episode, I love that for you. But
we're gonna go through the episode and I'm just going
to point out the outfits that stuck out to me. Okay,
this is what appealed to me. Easton Allen, the man

whose voice you're hearing. I'm gonna highlight the outfits that
I liked, that I thought were or that I didn't like,
the ones I thought were weird, the ones I thought
were fun, and we're gonna analyze them, and then at
the end, we're.

Let's get started here. First of all, season one, episode ten.
As I said before, Forgiveness and stuff. Costume designer Caroline B.

We're halfway through her run as costume designer on Gilmore Girls.
She worked on seventeen episodes. This is the tenth. She's
got six more to go, seven more. I can't do
math right now. I'm sorry, and I mean, what a
legend she has. She's at the helm of some of
the most iconic Gilmer Girls looks. We've been talking about

this whole season, and this episode is so fun. There's
so much to get into. So we open up at
a rehearsal for the Christmas pageant, and I know we
talk about fashion on this show. We talk about like
the outfits and everything. But I said this a couple
episodes back. I love when there's like costumes, like I'm

talking real costumes. I love when there's like when they
were doing the the Battle of Stars Hollow re enactment.
I love that they had to get in their colonial garb.

This is fun too.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
Everyone's in there like kind of Dick and Sony and
Christmas outfits.

Speaker 1 (03:16):
Kirk's on on stilts. It's it's great.

Speaker 2 (03:20):
But Loral I is helping Kirk a patch, you know,
mend his costume. And she's wearing this like maroon kind
of plumb sweater with a crown on the chest and
it's a sparkly and kind of bedazzled and it's a
you know, we know Laura I loves Rhyanstones.

Speaker 1 (03:42):
Okay, there's Ryan Stones all over this crown.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
Rory is wearing this like cool festive red zip up hoodie.
It's got like this kind of fuzzy trim not unlike
something eighteen Santa Claus would wear. If you ask me,
I could see a teenage Santa wearing something like this.
There's like a Christmas.

Speaker 1 (04:01):
Tree design embroidered along the waist of this of this sweater,
and it's it's it's.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
Very very cool. And then underneath she's wearing this blue
T shirt. And I wasn't able to confirm. I spend
a lot of time researching this, so if you know
the answer, please hit us up on Instagram at I
am on in podcasts. But this looks like to me,
like a Paul Frank Christmas shirt. It looks like, Okay,

this is right in the beginning. Pull us up on
Netflix or Hulu or wherever you like to watch the show,
break out the old VHS, and it's right at the beginning.
But it's it's a blue T shirt with like a
reindeer and the reindeer it looks like a reindeer to me.
I'm trying using context clues here. It's it's looks like
a version of the Paul Frank monkey, but reindeerfied.

That's what I think it is.

Speaker 2 (04:53):
I wasn't able to confirm that, but that's what I
think okay, and Taylor's wearing that cozy sweater. I love
I just of that sweater. I love seeing Taylor in there.
I want to hug him and then I want to
borrow the sweater and be cozy. Great looks right out
the gate here at the Christmas pageant. Later at the inn,
Laura's having this kind of tense conversation with Emily as

she gets uninvited to the Christmas party. Laura is wearing
a pink Paisley button up shirt. It's very Lorelei. It
actually looks very cool. It's not as crazy she normally goes,
but it's it's also like, you know, I wouldn't call
it like work attire. I know she she isn't working
at a bank or an office or something, but like

it's it's very bright, it's very the pattern is very busy.
I just love seeing what Laura wears to work. That's
something I've been really enjoying on this journey, is seeing
what she.

Like because she has to dress nice.

Speaker 2 (05:52):
You know, she can't wear like she can't be her
normal not her normal slob self, but she can't be
like totally dressed down. But this kind of rise the
line it's a very bright pink Paisley button up shirt.
A person on TikTok did find this shirt, but I
wasn't a They didn't give any information, they just found it,
So I'm sorry.

I was trying to figure this out. You guys, I'm
doing my best here.

Okay, don't get too mad at me, but I'm going
to tell you where you can get some of this
stuff later on. Okay, I did find some stuff for you, So.

This episode's very emotional, and there's a lot going on,
and there's a lot that Scott and others have gotten
into on the rewatch. That is not why I'm here,
but I don't want to ignore that. This is a
very emotional episode. And I do feel weird, like Loralai
having a kind of intense conversation with her mother and
I'm just sitting here talking about the Paisley shirt. I

don't want you to think I'm not noticing that. But
let's stay focused here. We're talking about clothes, Okay, we're
talking about the fashion. Now we're going to this Christmas
party that Lorala was uninvited from. And Emily, God, we
love the em clothes so much. She always an oxide
out of the park. I just love what Emily is wearing.
She's wearing this like red coat with a black kind

of a furry trim. It's very Christmas just so. She
looks like chic missus claws, chik young young missus claws.

It just looks great. I love this.

Speaker 2 (07:19):
I love this coat she's wearing. H And Rory is
wearing a really great dress. This is an awesome dress.
It's a it's like a red floral velvet vintage Betsy
Johnson dress. It's vintage from the nineties. Now this dress,
I okay, this is confirmed Betsy Johnson. And I wasn't

able to find like the name of the exact style,
but this dress if you just if you search like
Betsy Johnson floral nineties and threw Gilmore Girls in there too.
These pop up on deep Pop, on eBay, on Poshchmark,
they pop up in those places with some regularity. I
was able to find a lot of people that found them.
But this is a very sought after dress. This is

a very popular piece. So if you can find this,
if you want this dress, what Rory war II Emily's
Christmas party and you find it on eBay if you
find it on deep hops, snatch that up. You have
stumbled onto gold. I'm care if it's not your size,
just get it. This is a very hard dress to find.
You really got to put the work in. But if
you do, there's a there's a real gem waiting for you. Okay,

I really love it. It's called it. It's just nice.

It's it's Christmas y, but also like the florals give
it this spring vibe, bringing some light to the to
the darkness of winter. I just I really like this dress.
I think it's great, and it looks great on Rory too.
It's just it's a very cute dress.

Laurel, however, not dressed up because she did not get
to go to the Christmas party. And we are going

Party at Emily's and Lorel, however, is at home. She's alone,
and she's wearing jeans, just some nice skinny jeans. They
look good and a long sleeve olive green shirt that
says Sparky's Bowling and roller Rink.

And that's not a real place.

And it's very in line with the early two thousand
trends of like wearing merch from a.

Business that does not exist.

This was a thing like I would I would see
this a lot at like at the department stores and
places like Delia's and stuff like that. There's just it
was just graphic teas of fake businesses. Urban outfitters loved this.
Oh my god, there's so many urban outfitters. Uh.

So this is, you know, just something that Laurli is wearing.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
If you it's a cool shirt and if you want
to wear this, if you want it for your Loreli
Gilmore Halloween costume next year, where you dress up as
Loralai when she visits her father's new death experience in
the hospital.

There's a lot of reproductions of this shirt on Etsy.

lot of like silly, like weird Christmas themed graphic teas.

Uh and you know it's not the exact one, but
it's a it's a fine similacrum of what Laura I

So Larela goes to Luke's.

To have some have some grub and try and take
her mind off this unpleasant feeling of not being invited
to her own families Christmas party, and uh, Luke is
there and we've been, we've we've been on Luke Watch. Okay,
we are tracking the Luke uniform. He does not deviate
from his fashion. We know that about Luke. He wears

(11:38):
He's a man of habit he's a very down to
earth guy. He doesn't really clothes are not at top
of Luke's mind. He he is like, I wear a thermal,
I wear a flannel and a backwards hat and some jeans.
That's all I'm gonna wear. So I think with that,
with those parameters in mind, the stories they can tell

(11:59):
through his wardrobe are so limited, but I think they
do it effectively. I was looking at what he's wearing
in this scene. He is wearing an olive green flannel, unbuttoned,
and I think that's very interesting because Lorelei is wearing
also wearing a very similar color, so they kind.

Speaker 1 (12:16):
Of match here.

Speaker 2 (12:17):
And I think that this is a this episode's really
big for them, like kind of growing in attraction to
each other and realizing that there's there's something there. And
I think that is symbolized in there wearing the same
color when they're at the diner together. So he's wearing
this olive green flannel. It's unbuttoned and it's layer on
top of like a dark thermal undershirt, long sleevender shirt.

(12:40):
You know, it's it's Christmas time, it's cold out there.
He's wearing his signature backwards hat, so this hat I've
been trying to get a good shot of because there's
a like a logo on it. I was trying to
get a good shot of what it is. I finally
was able to figure it out. It's it's got this
like it's got like a like a badge and like
a cross, like almost like a medical like a red

Cross thing. And it says American Eagle. It's an American
Eagle hat. Nice job, Luke. He went down to the
mall and got himself an American Eagle hat. And I
was looking at Luke's watch in this episode too, I'm
trying to figure you know. I like to see what
watches everybody wears because that's another kind of a cool
detail that you can use to learn something about the characters.

(13:21):
And I wasn't able to confirm this officially, but from
my eagle eye, my trained observation, I was able to discern.
I will go on record here. I solemnly swear I
have my hand on my stack of Gilmore Girl's DVDs.
I solemnly swear that this watch is a Black G

(13:42):
Shock watch. I believe it's a Black G Shock watch.
And as we know from talking in the past, Rory
Loves Her Baby g Gilmore Girls Loves the g Shock.
It was a very popular watch in the two thousands.
It's still kind of a popular watch today. But I
believe that is what Luke is wearing in this episode.
It's a black show because it's it's a big watch

(14:04):
and it's got like a big casing on it. He
needs something that can be durable and stand being banged
around the diner. Uh So these outfits though, are because
because Richard collapses at the Christmas party or you know,
he has rushed to the hospital. Uh, everyone's wearing the
same stuff to the hospital. Of course everyone goes there.

(14:26):
So the the hospital scenes there's there's no new fashions
to to acknowledge.

Speaker 1 (14:31):
We do get Jane.

Speaker 2 (14:33):
Lynch as the as the nurse wearing a very nice
looking like light pink cardigan. I thought that was just
a nice little touch and nice to see her pop
up in this show as well. But after after the
hospital scenes, we go to the end of the episode,
the very end, and Lorelei is where Laura is at Luke's.

(14:55):
She goes back to the diner and they're they're watching
the rehearsal for the professional and she's wearing that Shirpa
jacket that we love. It's a it's a great jacket.
She woren't like a Walmart commercial. That's a it's a
loreleized staple.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Uh and uh. And she gives Luke a new hat.
It's a blue you know, kind of a his American
eagle hat.

Speaker 2 (15:17):
It's kind of like a you know, we would call
it a dad hat these days, it's just less structured hat.
It's a kind of floppy thing. This one has some
f to it. It can stand up on its own.
It's a blue hat with no logo, so we don't
have to worry about giving any advertising to places that
have not paid us yet. So it's a it's a

(15:38):
royalty free hat.

Speaker 1 (15:40):
Uh yeah.

Speaker 2 (15:40):
And he he he enjoys the gesture he puts the
hat on, and he really likes it. Uh.

And So that that's it. Those are the tho' are
the offits that stood out to me. Again, if I
miss something, you guys, I'm not perfect. I'm far from it.

Uh My, we'll start my least favorite. Okay, I I
think my least favorite outfit of this entire episode. I
you know, I hate to rag on Laura I so much.

The I'm just not a rye. You know, I'm not
a rhinestone guy. And she loves them and I love
that about her, but I don't like it myself. I
didn't like the uh the bedazzled crown she's wearing at
the very opening. I think that was my least favorite
fit in this episode. Her her pink Paisley shirt she

(16:45):
order work is also is fighting for that title too.
I was. It wasn't really a fan of that. It
was just it made me made me dizzy to look at.
But best outfit, I think I got to give it
to Rory. It's that Betsy Johnson dress. It looks great.
I love that dress. It's so nice. I understand why
everyone is scouring deep hop looking for this thing.

I love it. I absolutely love that dress. It's great.

And yeah, Roy looks great in it. It's a great
dress word to a Christmas party. And you know, as
we record this, it is mid November. It's that time
of year here in North America. And if I was
a high school girl and looking for looking for a dress,
I'd be looking for this one too.
