On today's episode. If I didn't know, maybe you didn't either.
Let's talk about how racist the representation on this money is.
I didn't know. I didn't know. Didn't I didn't know,
I didn't go. Now we know that here in the States,

(00:21):
pretty much all of the currency features racist presidents. I
mean there are some exceptions. Benjamin Franklin, he's on the
hunt done and he wasn't a president. We still ain't
saying Harriet tub And on none of these twenties that
would cap. But in season one we talked about racist
George Washington on the one dollar bill and how he
would take the slaves teeth out of theay mouth and
put him in his own. If you owned enslaved individuals

and felt that black people were inferior, you're racist. And
please don't try to justify it on the harshness or
lack thereof in the treatment of the enslaved individuals. Oh,
we were nice to our slaves. We were cordial to
our slaves. Cordial would have been letting him go free.
I don't care how you try to dress up. Do
to put it on a stick, put in some fancy

rapping and tell me it's a fudge. Pop when I
tasted that dude on that their stick. George Washington one
dollar bill racist, Thomas Jefferson on the two dollar bill racist. Yes,
he was an architect and an archaeologist and a wanaficionado.
He was obsessed with books, but he also owned over

six hundred enslaved black people. And some accounts say old
t J. Might have had a couple of kids with
his enslaved teenager and said it was either him or
his brother Randolph, but it were definitely up the Jefferson line.
Now Sally Hermans. She was born into slavery in Virginia,
but then they master died so her family was inherited
by the daughter of their master. The daughter was Martha,

who eventually ended up being Thomas Jefferson's wife. In seventeen
eighty four, Thomas Jefferson had a work trip in Paris.
Sally rose shotgun and she wasn't but sixteen as a
companion and made to his eight year old daughter Maria.
Sally and her older brother in Paris as Jefferson's personal servant.
Because they were free in Paris, they got paid a

monthly wage. And where it has it that Sally and
t J start doing that little thing on the sun
and teacher shot the club. But now, even though she
was free in Paris, she agreed to go back and
be in bondage with t J under the provision that
her children get their freedom. Sally ended up having six children,
four of them lived. Listen, not a true of t

J fathered them kids or not. But these two things
we know Thomas Jefferson owned enslaved black people, and that
Thomas Jefferson hated race mixing because he felt that black
folks were inferior to the whites and the endowments of
both body and mind. And we know that because he
said it. Here's an expert. I advanced it therefore as

a suspicion only that the Blacks, whether originally a distinct
race or made distinct by time or circumstance, our inferior
to the whites in the endowments of both body and mind.
I'm not quite sure why I heard him talking like that,
but that's how it registered to my ear drums when

I read it. So take that to school and work
with you. A racist on the one dollar bill and
a racist on the two dollar bill. I didn't know.
