Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hi, This is lin Manuel Miranda, and I hope you'll
join me for a special three part podcast series In
the Heights and Swing Evil and the Heights was my
first shows, what started the whole thing. And now I'm
very excited that the film version of In the Heights
that we made with Warner Brothers and they were very
proud of, is coming out soon on June. Let So
in this podcast, me my dear friend Eva Longoria, Oh

(00:21):
my god, I'm sorry. Oh y'all don't even know. And
two of my longtime collaborators, Via who this who wrote
the book for In the Heights. One of the things
Lynn and I bonded over was the stories of our fathers.
Even though they're very different, there were some commonalities. They
were just kind of naturally out in the community, building
the community they wanted to live in. And Alex Lackamore,

(00:42):
my musical collaborator on this and so many things, we
were just creating art because we were reading something. You know.
It wasn't like, oh, we're gonna we're doing this because
we want to be famous, you know. It wasn't like
we're doing this because we want to make money. Like, no,
we're getting together because we love what we do. We'll
tell you the whole story of how this show that
has meant so much to us all came about, starting

(01:02):
in the neighborhood where I grew up, in wood in
Washington Heights, New York, through the early days of writing, rehearsing, casting,
and all we had to do to get this first
show made. There's a term in musical theater called the button,
and that's the final moment in the song that makes
you go and started like clapping. And I hadn't gone
to button school. No one teaches you having to write

(01:23):
a great button to a song. And so I really
went to button school between off Broadway and Broadway all
the way up through the making of this amazing film.
We only had one day to capture an eight minute
musical number from sun up to sundown and the joy
and the triumphed and hearing Anthony Robol's feet like this

(01:44):
is for the culture. Let's go and tearing us on
at every turn. We hope you'll join us. Listen to
in the Heights. It's when Eagle Podcasts starting June two
on the I Heart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever
you get your podcasts.
