Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to Insider's Guide to the Other Side, a production
of iHeartRadio. Hi, y'all, I'm Julie.
Speaker 2 (00:09):
Hi there, I'm Brenda. Welcome to Insider's Guide to the
Other Side.
Speaker 1 (00:14):
Now, y'all need to know that we are obsessed with
everything on the other side.
Speaker 2 (00:20):
Yes, we are, because once you learn to navigate the energetic,
or to some the invisible world, life is going to
be more fun and much more serene.
Speaker 1 (00:31):
Uh heck, yes it can. Because, let's be honest, br in,
earth school is hard.
Speaker 2 (00:36):
In fact, you taught me that let's crush earth school together.
Speaker 1 (00:42):
Well, hello, my witchy pooh. I don't know about you,
but I just bought a cemetery an, how are you excellent?
Speaker 3 (00:57):
I am doing very well.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
However, I have not purchased any cemeteries recently.
Speaker 3 (01:04):
I'm not sure I can write at your status.
Speaker 1 (01:06):
Yeah, wellknown, because I really.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
Did that job? What did you do? What did you do?
Speaker 1 (01:13):
Okay, wells. What's really funny is when Susanne and I
were looking for houses in Santa Fe. We have a
ton of cemeteries around here, and there were some really
great places, and I said to susic Obaye, we cannot
buy a house this close to a cemetery will never
sleep again. And so we picked this one. And I mean,
(01:34):
I say about a cemetery, there's like there's two headstones.
Speaker 3 (01:39):
Did you know this when you walked the property?
Speaker 1 (01:41):
No?
Speaker 3 (01:42):
No, it wasn't listed anywhere.
Speaker 1 (01:44):
I'm not sure others knew because it's it's here's what's fascinating.
So I do you mind if I just jump into
how I discovered them.
Speaker 3 (01:52):
Clearly we are in we are.
Speaker 1 (01:53):
Yeah, this is crazy. This is a bunch of info.
You're not going to get off my Instagram. So those
that participated in my sleuth thing, I thank you, but
we're going to give you a lot more details. So
what happened was I went and met our contractor Michael
at our property late last week and we were walking
kind of the perimeter because we're going to redo the
(02:14):
coyote fencing. Right, I mean, so here's the thing. Kyoto
fencing are these long, skinny sticks so kyotes can't jump
over into your property. That's what they call it.
Speaker 3 (02:23):
Coyote fencing and biking picture because I've been in Santa.
Speaker 1 (02:27):
Fe, right, so you know, like all those the sticks right,
the vertical just.
Speaker 3 (02:30):
Sticks, super tight, super tight.
Speaker 1 (02:33):
Very tight, and so we're actually going to be fortifying
that even more so. We were walking along the fence
and there's one part and this is so Santa Fe
where it looks like they took a bunch of rocks
and big chunks of cement to kind of build it
up to put the fence on. By the way, we're
going to be covering that up because it's ugly. But
(02:56):
so we're walking and it's kind of next to the
casita and I'm looking at this air and I'm kind
of like, yeah, I think we should really just kind
of plaster over this. Da da da da dah. And
then I stopped literally dead ha ha haha in my tracks,
and I said, Michael, is this a headstone? And he
walked over there and he goes, yep, And I said
(03:17):
you've been you've lived here for over thirty years and
he goes, nope, I haven't seen this before. He goes
and I thought I saw everything like he he has
found like old wagon wheel tracks that are from the
late seventeen hundreds, like right, like this is this the town?
Speaker 3 (03:35):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (03:36):
And so we're looking at it and kind of brushing
it away, and I go, holy shit, this guy because
I could see a guy named I think it's it's
Emmy l I t o n I would say Melton,
but I think it's meloton. I don't know. It sounds
like a sent me to take to sleep melatonin. Yeah,
but it's Emmy l I t o n Ortega. It
(03:58):
was the name on it Borne and eighteen seventy four
something like that, and then he jumped in nineteen forty nine.
By the way, not for a thing, that's right, That's
what I'm saying. What a nice longevity is first thing
I thought most people will be freaked out, like, holy crap,
I just found a headset. I'm like, oh, hit, a
nice long life.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
But you know, well back in the day that was
really long.
Speaker 1 (04:22):
Totally yeah, and so or there's no question about that.
What's really cool, though, is the stone that they use
is kind of cool. By the way. There's like all
these colors and it's just really greevy, like I appreciate,
of course the mineral part of it, as well as
his long life.
Speaker 3 (04:40):
Well, they then they had some coin to create it.
Speaker 1 (04:44):
I think something right had to to it is. And
then so we look and we see where there's like
either nails or screw, probably some sort of nail that
attaches the headstone to what looked it's like like a
square mini bathtub, best way I can describe it. So
(05:05):
I wonder if there's ashes in it. But I don't
know if they did that back then. I don't know. Right,
these are things I don't know. There's a lot I
don't know.
Speaker 3 (05:12):
Do you do you have to leave it for someone
else to come.
Speaker 1 (05:17):
Well, so here's the thing. So Michael's like, well, we
can take it, we can move them. I'm like, oh no, no, no, no, no, no,
you don't understand who you're dealing with. We are not
going to move these off this property, No way I go.
You're looking at somebody who has more respect for the
dead slash spirit than you'll find. Like, so no it stays.
(05:38):
He's like, okay, weirdo say the weirdo part out loud,
but his eyes did vibed. So wait, still not done.
So I'm walking around and I'm looking, and I go, Michael,
I think I found another one he walked so for
and he's like, you sure did. This one is not
(05:59):
as clear, but you could see the name. You can't
see you see the word born, but you can't really
see there's like a chip, you know, out of it.
But her name is excuse me, Carlotta or Tega, and
so we just assumed married couple. And then we stand
there and we're like, where do you think this came from?
He goes, I don't know. And this is of course Michael, right,
(06:23):
really sweet guy by the way, a really big hearted man,
but very much lives in the physical world kind of
the thing. Right, He's like, well, they could have just
went to you know, when they were building this up.
They just probably went to go pick up whatever they
could find and they put it there. And I'm like,
do you actually think someone would intentionally pick headstones to
build up an area to put a fence? And he
(06:44):
looked at me and I go, I'm gonna say the
answer is no. So I take photos, of course, because
that's what I do. I should be taking photos of
the inside the house and shit that needs to be done,
but no, I take all my photos headstones out there.
And then of course he starts to ask me, goes,
well does this freak you out at all? And da
dah dah da dad, And I'm like, my god, I
(07:05):
wrote a book called The Ghost photographer. I think these
were meant to be here. This is not upsetting to
me whatsoever.
Speaker 3 (07:13):
And this is my lane.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
This is my lane. But then I kind of was like,
oh shit, like what does this mean on a practical
level to the city. Right? Yeah, So I called our
architect and he and he actually tells me what they do, right, Okay,
Well he said there's two different groups. I think he
(07:37):
said the second one is the one that freaked me out,
which are the archaeologist. He's like, they shut down your
whole house and they go and dig and sift and
all that kind of stuff. And I'm like, well, then
they will I will not call them until we're done
because they, yeah, they sift, they do all this kind
of stuff. So in my go ahead, is.
Speaker 3 (07:57):
That is that process?
Speaker 1 (08:00):
There's the archaeology part. I'm not sure.
Speaker 2 (08:03):
I'm hoping just because it's on private property. That's because
I'm thinking, like I understand if it's city property, but
I think.
Speaker 1 (08:10):
They do it on private is what has been now.
Don't know exactly what's going to happen yet because at
the moment, keep in mind, I had no idea where,
where who these folks were, where they came from, The
only thing i'd heard about the house was in the
mid fifties, the sheriff of Santa Fe lived there. There
was a makeshift kind of gun rack and the old
the owner told me about that. That's all I knew
(08:32):
was a sheriff.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Okay, so did you go back did they keep records
that would go back that far too, to that space
or that land.
Speaker 1 (08:42):
Well, I think we should take a little break and
then I'm going to reveal what happened. Oh okay, okay,
because I had no idea these could have been.
Speaker 3 (08:50):
Who knows the rest of the story.
Speaker 2 (08:52):
Yeah, I mean they yeah, okay, and we'll be right back, okay,
and welcome back.
Speaker 3 (09:06):
And y'all.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
I'm I'm such an easy target every time.
Speaker 3 (09:16):
I just want to.
Speaker 2 (09:16):
Tell our audience that I am with you. I don't
know the full story, clearly, because I'm like, what do
you do?
Speaker 3 (09:21):
I don't know. I really do not know.
Speaker 1 (09:22):
So I know this is we actually agree to this.
You're like tell me. I'm like, now let's just go.
Let's just like unfold as we go, exactly right. And
so then so I figured the best thing I could
do was go on Instagram. We have people know for
real like, are amazing because I had a post and
(09:44):
I asked, you know, for help with sleuthing. It's like,
can we find these folks? And by the way, it's
kind of miraculous what people can find and how quickly. Yeah,
that's true, And I'm going to mention Karen Day. She
was amazing through all that. Oh my gosh. I love
her and her daughter goes to school at University of
(10:05):
New Mexico down in Albuquerque, so she was meant for
this too. So anyway, so I asked everybody put a
picture of this the headstone and what I could figure
out about Carlotta. And people started coming back with all
this stuff.
Speaker 3 (10:19):
Wait, what do you mean, what do you figure out
about Carlotta? What did you figure out? Oh?
Speaker 1 (10:23):
No, just that I saw her name, but I supposed
because you can't really see her her headstone is as well. Right, Okay,
so all this infos starts pouring in. Apparently there were
a lot of Meliton m E L I t o went,
I don't again, I want to call him Melatonin. I
shouldn't say that very often because he's now my neighbor,
but but he seriously, he is, he's my roomy. So
(10:50):
there's weirdly a lot of Melton and Carlotta Ortegas from
that time as miss Popples. Why not, I guess. Okay,
so there's all this info about seven children, all this
kind of stuff and blah blah blah blah blah. Okay,
then you're idiot, elf, because this is an idiot elf.
Move No, it's about what I finally the pieces I
(11:12):
started putting together, which was I have a report from
the Historic District Division whatever the hell they're called in
Santa Fe when I bought the house, and so I'm like, well,
I should probably go look at this report. Their names
are on my report. Oh, they own the house, and
(11:33):
even Militan's father owned the house prior to him. He
went as Jose for a while, I mean dated back
to early nineteen hundreds, so right by the way, I mean,
of course, like bleeding heart liberal Elf is like, oh,
(11:54):
how sweet they put their body whoever it was that,
which is a big mystery, like who actually buried their
did whatever they did? Their headstones? How sweet because they
put them on their property. I just thought it was
really sweet, and I'm gonna maybe make a spot for me.
You got the Ortega riggers just right there. But I
(12:18):
thought it was a really sweet thing, so started digging around.
And you know, the dad he was born obviously in
like the mid eighteen hundreds of his son was born
in eighteen seventy four or six, whatever it was. And
and so of course I do the Okay, I'm actually
and I joke a lot about Oh I bought a
cemetery because it's kind of funny. But I kind of
(12:40):
like need to figure out, like we cool, yeah, you know,
who's who here? Zoom who yeah, And so I kind
of like walked over just like, okay, guys, are you here?
What are we doing here?
Speaker 3 (12:55):
Now?
Speaker 1 (12:55):
I'll tell you what I got. And because you were
the witchiest of witchy poos, I would like to ask
you to check it as well. But I got that
they were reincarnated, so there wasn't like any I didn't get.
I didn't get a lot of it. I didn't get
much from me. O. You getting out your tools. Everybody,
Brenna's getting out her witchy tools, which is like my
favorite thing in life more than pie, by the way.
Speaker 3 (13:19):
I get it.
Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yes, I'm Milton, uh huh, yeah, but I get a
noe on Carlata.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
Oh she's still around.
Speaker 3 (13:27):
Huh, well she's in spirit.
Speaker 1 (13:29):
Yeah, it's still around spirit. Yeah, okay, can we ask
her if she's okay that she's going to be my
new roomy.
Speaker 3 (13:36):
She is not necessarily local, this is what i'd say.
Speaker 1 (13:40):
Oh, interesting, so she's not there. Maybe that's why I
didn't get a pick anything up? Are there any more?
Are there any more headstones on my property? Or did
I find the two there?
Speaker 3 (13:53):
I'm not going to ask them because they may not
know that's true.
Speaker 1 (13:57):
Okay, this is a very significant pause everyone.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I'm sorry about the pause. I had to move her out.
She's actually very interested in this conversation. Yes, there are
more headstones.
Speaker 1 (14:10):
Oh shit, really yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:14):
I don't know that. I don't.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Let me say it differently. I feel like there are
more bodies, two more, but I don't know that there
are headstones.
Speaker 1 (14:25):
Got it, got it. That's okay. I'm clearly fine with
all this. I mean, it's like, obviously there's a reason,
let's be honest, and it is likes ago, So yeah, yeah,
I don't. I don't really worry about them, kind of
like you know, when when we went to the cemetery
in Atlanta for a photo shoot. It is a I
(14:47):
know you cringe every time, but the reality is, like,
this is not what I'm dealing with. I understand the
activity in an active cemetery, I call it I bought
a cemetery, but it's not technically I mean it is.
Speaker 3 (14:58):
It's a burial ground.
Speaker 1 (14:59):
It's a burial ground exactly. And I didn't feel anything.
I only felt actually positivity.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Weirdly enough, it was it was honorably buried, is what
I would say, right, It was this is family.
Speaker 3 (15:13):
We take care of family, this is how.
Speaker 1 (15:14):
We do and their family property.
Speaker 2 (15:17):
Yeah, yeah, this is the legacy. I mean, this is
what was expected. That was not the case in the.
Speaker 1 (15:24):
Cemetery exactly exactly. I think it's very different. I think
the vibe is very different. I think that you know,
even if somebody popped in, you know, they would know
that it's very well taken care of. I acknowledge deeply
care about this, deeply, like this is one thing you
don't miss. But that's like when Michael Slick, do you
want to move these I think I screamed.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
No, no, no, no, no no, Now.
Speaker 1 (15:51):
I will move them to a very honorable spot and
within a spot for me next to them.
Speaker 3 (15:55):
And she's saying, you can, you can remove it. She
would be fine with it.
Speaker 1 (15:59):
Yeah, problem, Yeah, really.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
She would be fine with it because she's really unattached, right,
She's completely in a different place.
Speaker 3 (16:08):
I want to be cleared that her.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
So just before our listeners who already know this, but
just in case you haven't listened to every episode and
memorized it and committed it to memory. But this is
something that when we incarnate, we incarnate like ten percent
of our full spirit. She is fully back in spirit,
but she has reincarnated at other times. She just happens
to be fully back in spirit.
Speaker 3 (16:32):
At this time.
Speaker 1 (16:33):
Milton.
Speaker 2 (16:34):
Yes, I think we think, we think Milton, it just
happens to be embodied at this time.
Speaker 1 (16:42):
Maybe that's why I got that when I was there.
Speaker 2 (16:44):
Yeah, And so I'm going to see if I can
connect in with his soule essence, not his personality essence.
And I'm asking him, is it would be okay to.
Speaker 3 (16:58):
Move the head.
Speaker 2 (17:00):
Owns and he would prefer not to, So we get
one of it, well, I mean I yeah, he says, you.
Speaker 3 (17:08):
Can move it and clean it up to be convenient
for you.
Speaker 1 (17:11):
I will do that.
Speaker 3 (17:12):
And if it's available to keep it. That's that would
be appreciated.
Speaker 1 (17:16):
Well, well, somebody has already moved them. I can tell
you that, Okay. I would like to move them to
a nicer like a little garden that just has their
headstones there. That's kind of like i'll say, walled off.
I say wall very open definition of it. But I
(17:37):
you know, I felt like they it's weird. I think
his I don't know why I didn't pick up on
her as much as I did him, which is really interesting.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Because I think he's here and he's the dominant one
between them.
Speaker 1 (17:48):
That's what I would have guessed. Yeah, yeah, in him,
probably because it was his father that owned it. Jose
Ortega then changed his name. Hold on, I'm gonna pull
this up. Yeah, this is like a live talking about
the dead, talking about the dead.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Just in case you want to know what to do
when you find a headstone in your yard.
Speaker 1 (18:13):
Exactly right. So he went by Jose, which maybe was
a middle name, but his the father's first name was
Albino A L B I N O. And I didn't
see hide nor hair him in there, but I did
see hi nor hair him in my historic report.
Speaker 3 (18:32):
Okay, I don't think he's Yeah, he's not buried there.
Speaker 1 (18:37):
I wonder who the other two are, Okay.
Speaker 3 (18:39):
I don't know. I have a feeling the children.
Speaker 1 (18:41):
Well, so my friend Karen looked him up and what
she found was that those two did not have children,
but they took care of like a nephew or a
niece or something like that. It could it be in
only one again, I don't know. That's the closest that
Karen could be.
Speaker 3 (18:59):
I don't know. I doubt.
Speaker 1 (19:02):
Interesting. So, yeah, that's these are my new roomies and
they will be seriously well taken care of. I don't
know what else to say about that.
Speaker 2 (19:14):
But only other thing I did say, let them walk
the parameter, give them give them a job.
Speaker 1 (19:19):
Oh right, yeah, give me a job. I love that. Yeah,
that's what I remember. You told me that. It's so
funny you say that. After mom died, like a decent
amount of time, you had said to me, you go
give her a job, And I went, oh shit, finally
the child can give the parent a job. I'm all in, and.
Speaker 2 (19:42):
We your mom your mom always a workhorse, right, totally works?
Speaker 1 (19:46):
Yeah, she mean yeah, and so she's the one I
asked when I inadvertently opened a portal. I mean, look
at my look at my property history. Nobody lived near
me if they need to freak you out, because look
at my history with property. This is crazy.
Speaker 3 (20:05):
This is you know what I mean, this is life.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
This is my life, which is so funny. If you
go back and if you go down and read the comments,
I love them. People like oh of course you did.
Like nobody was shocked. There was no like oh no,
They're like, of course it was you. They're like you
like that and way I do, that's your jam jam like.
And I think giving them a job is phenomenal. And
(20:29):
I'm already like scoping out. I think the perimeter is great. Yeah,
I love that.
Speaker 2 (20:35):
Because they have they have a strong connection. They have
a strong connection to the property.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
Well he does for sure, Yeah, yeah he does. For
I mean, she's like, what, Ebbs, you can ditch it
if you want to.
Speaker 3 (20:45):
No, no, no, no, no, that's not what she said. I
was kidding.
Speaker 2 (20:48):
Yeah, okay, sorry, I just want to make sure she's
fine with it. I guess she's fine with it. But
also I would give both Albino and no Milton and.
Speaker 3 (21:02):
Give them that.
Speaker 1 (21:03):
Yeah. So here's what was also really weird, and this
is something we haven't shared with our audience, But why
don't we take a break, and then I'm going to
share the really weird thing that you know but they don't.
Speaker 2 (21:15):
Know because this is not weird enough weird.
Speaker 3 (21:28):
All right, and welcome back.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
Y'all need to know what Brenda just said, because I'm
going to tell y'all. She goes it's all fun and
games until somebody buys a cemetery. But here's the weird
thing that one of the first thoughts that I had
after the kind of initial.
Speaker 3 (21:46):
We have people buried on our wow.
Speaker 1 (21:48):
Wow right, And I know you and I have had
this conversation multiple times. I have always had this vision
that I would encounter my burial ground from a previous life.
I have had visions of this. I thought it was
always going to be in Ohio for some reason, not
just because you lived there, but I've been Ohio was
(22:08):
like a place that I kind of saw, and so
when I see this, I'm like, huh, interesting could this be?
And I'm super cool being an Ortega, but I was.
It was a really interesting kind of like moment that
I had. I'm like, I've envisioned this. I don't know
if that is the moment, but I've envisioned that. Do
(22:31):
you mind asking? Oh? Here she goes, I don't have
to ask. She starts twirling her thing around.
Speaker 2 (22:37):
I get to know and that you reincarnating as from
being in an artega.
Speaker 3 (22:42):
Okay, I get a know on that. But you can
ask about Ohio, Ohio.
Speaker 1 (22:47):
In Ohio, was I friends with the Ortegas?
Speaker 3 (22:51):
No?
Speaker 1 (22:52):
Did I work for them?
Speaker 3 (22:53):
Nope?
Speaker 1 (22:54):
Okay, so no connection, no connection. Well that's what I
thought for the moment. So thank you for clarified. What
you look on your face? What do you? What do you?
What do you? What's happening?
Speaker 3 (23:02):
It's going in a different direction taking some other things.
Speaker 2 (23:05):
Oh oh, it looks like there was a lifetime the
more recent lifetime growth every recent in Europe's But we'll
have to point that point that in another episode in Europe.
Speaker 1 (23:16):
Yeah, probably Italy or the UK. I know I have
history there.
Speaker 3 (23:20):
Yeahs not interesting.
Speaker 1 (23:22):
Yeah, I mean if it was my Indian, like my
India past life, I ain't never find in that. That's
a big ass country, that is with a whole bunch
of people. They just surpassed China for the most populist
country in the world.
Speaker 2 (23:36):
Interesting. We just had that conversation yesterday about how big
India is. It's just crazy, right.
Speaker 1 (23:41):
Right, Yeah, so now we do we joke. It's all
fun and games and kind a cemetery. But like, I
think we should. I think this actually is interesting because
it also feels like you had the airbnb experience. You've
had another airbnb experience next two one right right, that in.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
Tallas, right, which is not that far from you relatively speaking,
like this one I was thinking of because it's close
to you. Is when you know, we rented in their
BnB and pulled in and blah blah blah blah, and
Devian's emptying the back of the car and I'm in
the front of the car pull and stuff out that,
(24:21):
you know, to keep him to move in for the week.
We're so excited, and he's like, hey, is this is
going to be a problem for you? And I'm like,
what did you break in the back? Like that's what
I'm thinking, right, I'm like, what did you break? And
I'm sure it'll be fine because no, not me this
and he kind of points behind him.
Speaker 3 (24:36):
I'm like, what's back there?
Speaker 2 (24:37):
I didn't even see it because the trunk, the hatchback
is up right, I can't see what's behind the car.
And we entered it, you know, parked in the car
off an alley, a back alley behind the house. And
on the other side of the alley is this fenced
in backyard cemetery. You know, it's small, it's a family cemetery,
but there's probably twenty thirty headstones in there. That a
(25:00):
falling over, sliding into the driveway.
Speaker 3 (25:03):
I'm like, oh, for the love, dad, are you kidding me?
Speaker 2 (25:06):
Like you know, so the next morning, by the time
the sun comes up, I'm awake all.
Speaker 3 (25:12):
Night long, all night long, I'm awake.
Speaker 2 (25:15):
And he looks at me, and you know, I've been
so tired before I got vacation because you know, the
burn right to let's get up, and uh, I'm like,
I can't.
Speaker 3 (25:24):
Stay here, just crying. I'm so tired and I don't
want to be here and they won't get off me.
I can't stay here. No, this is not this is
a problem, and I'm not staying here.
Speaker 1 (25:37):
Did you stay well not?
Speaker 2 (25:39):
No, we are not kidding, no, no, no, no no.
But he called Airbnb and got a hold little lady
that owned it, and she had owned it for like
two months. We're in house. She's like in Philadelphia and
she had never been there. She's like, what are you
talking about? And he took a picture from you know,
so she could see the driveway, you know, and she's like,
(26:00):
I had no idea that was there. She's like, no problem.
She refunded all of our money. I mean, she was,
which never happens ever, right, she was so gracious and
so kind and you know, and didn't say, you know.
Speaker 3 (26:13):
Hey, you're screwed. I can't hopefully married a crazy woman,
you know.
Speaker 2 (26:18):
Anyhow, it was, yeah, but that's what it made when
you said about Sara, I'm like, of course you did
like New Mexico.
Speaker 1 (26:24):
I mean not for nothing like this is. And I
make jokes and because I do actually have fallen in
love with this state, because I think it's it is enchanting.
I think it's magnificent and the energy I love. I
just like even a bad day. I love a bad
day here. But I do call it a third world country. Yeah,
it is.
Speaker 3 (26:45):
It's very different. It's a very different vibe.
Speaker 1 (26:47):
It's been anywhere.
Speaker 3 (26:49):
It's much more.
Speaker 2 (26:51):
Elemental, like you feel all the elements as opposed to
a metropolitan life where we are separated more from the elements.
Speaker 1 (27:00):
Yeah, they did not pave Paradise put up a parking lot,
which is why it's beautiful it is. In fact, there's
actually weirdly, there is not very much pavement here, Yeah,
which I think is funny. It's like because they literally
did not pay Paradise. They it's like gravel roads. You know,
they won't even redo the roads close to the plaza
(27:21):
because they call it historic. I mean, it's like all these.
Speaker 3 (27:23):
Things they've chosen to preserve what they have.
Speaker 1 (27:26):
They have. And you know, when I drove my cousin
to Phoenix not long ago to take him to the
Mayo because he has MS. And as we're driving, we
had it, by the way, a really great time, even
though MS was a part of it. We had a
lovely time. But we're driving in this is part of
New Mexico that is kind of between Albuquerque and like
(27:51):
the border, like around Gallop and there's this mountain called
Mount Taylor. I'm like, oh, Suzanne has a rown mountain.
Mountains a mountain. But there's all this like lava rocks
that you see on in like Kona in Hawaii. It's
not as New it's faded, but like there was a
(28:13):
lot of volcanic activity here, you know, just the the creation, uh.
Speaker 2 (28:18):
And is so powerful, Like that's just so so cool.
I didn't know it had a you know, recently active
I didn't either, you know, volcano. But that makes perfect
sense for Mexico, right, the it's such a land, is
such a force and an impact when you're there.
Speaker 1 (28:35):
And like the in White Sands, I mean that's like
another like elemental Like it is a really incredible state.
But it is a little third world country issue because
my internet goes down regularly, and that's why I call
it that. It's because of my internet. But it is
a very interesting vibe, especially from you know, living in
San Francisco, Los Angeles. Like I'm very connected to the
(28:57):
land here, so it's not surprising. My point is that
because it was Mexico at one point, and it actually
still feels that way, and I love Mexico, so this
is perfect for me. So, but it is like a
lot of those rituals, a lot of those things, like
because Melton he had passed in nineteen forty nine, You're
(29:19):
not going to find a lot of places across this
country where people were burying their family members in their
backyard in nineteen forty nine. Yeah, you're not real. And
this just part of what the culture was here, a
little bit of that kind of wild West ish.
Speaker 2 (29:33):
You know, the.
Speaker 1 (29:37):
Kind of Mexican culture as well as long as well
as like native culture Native America, because we have all
of that here. In fact, I think it's the Navajo
has like the largest piece of land in New Mexico.
I think they have more land. Yes, I learned a
lot from my cousin, So don't think I'm real smart.
This is what my cousin is. But anyway, smart that
(30:00):
makes you know exactly exactly, And that's my cousin. He's
he works at Sandy Labs on nuclear stuff. He's that
kind of smart guy. But anyway, so it is, it
is a very interesting place. I can't possibly be the
only one that has this. Maybe people don't even know
they have it on their land. I just had these
sticking up staring at me, going hey hey, And the
(30:23):
first one I found was was Milton's. Actually it wasn't, Carlotta.
Speaker 3 (30:27):
Yeah that makes sense.
Speaker 2 (30:28):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (30:29):
So anyway, now, the I think to wrap it up is, uh,
if you have a cemetery in your backyard. It could
be okay as long as there's a couple, but if
you're by a bigger one, you may want to.
Speaker 2 (30:41):
Move or at least get a lot of black turmaline,
a lot of selenite.
Speaker 1 (30:47):
Well, you know what's funny, Okay, we're not done yet.
It's funny that I had already brought over a giant
box of black turmaline for the construction team to put
in the walls. Oh nice, of course, that's that interesting, right,
I mean I would have done that anyway, but I
think I'll probably put it grid the property line now,
(31:09):
in case they had friends that want to come visit
that aren't welcome because the ghosts there are cool I
think ghost friends. I don't think so. No, I feel fine,
it's weird anyway. I bought a s the end, full stop.
Speaker 2 (31:23):
Congratulations, thanks for sharing your louthing stories with us.
Speaker 1 (31:29):
Karen Day and thank you Karen, like you were a master.
Speaker 3 (31:34):
That's awesome.
Speaker 2 (31:35):
And when you're buying something, read the history major history documents.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Well, but we know the ownership for like decades and decades,
but it didn't say they were buried there.
Speaker 3 (31:52):
Good.
Speaker 1 (31:53):
Yeah, there was no way to find out. And I'm
even curious if the guy who wonted it before. I
don't think he knew.
Speaker 3 (31:59):
I don't think you knew.
Speaker 1 (32:00):
Yeah, I don't think he knew. I called him doctor
d u I, but I don't think doctor d u
I knew he had a d U. Y. You can't
practice medicine if you have a d U I, So
I call him doctor d u Y. Nice enough guy.
He doesn't listen, so he's not going to get offended.
I already bought it.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
So is he like a pH d doctor?
Speaker 1 (32:21):
No, he was a medical doctor in Albuquerque and our
house was actually didn't know this was in pre foreclosure.
This is like an endings to this episode that there
it was in pre foreclosure because he couldn't work because
he had a d U. I so call him doctor
d Uy. What the F I don't remember, but I don't.
I don't think doctor d u I knew. Okay, but
(32:42):
here we go. We're starting a new We're starting a
new tradition in you know, the riger cemetery fe trail.
Speaker 3 (32:51):
I can't wait to see the Halloween party.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
