Speaker 1 (00:01):
Morning Run with Amy and TJ and iHeartRadio Podcast. Good
morning everyone, This is your Morning Run for Thursday, April tenth.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
I'm Amy Robots and I'm TJ. Holmes.

Speaker 3 (00:11):
Off to a good start. We got the date right. Yes,
I've screwed that up on a couple of occasions given
our sleep schedule. But yes, Morning Run now guaranteed to
be ready for you by six thirty am Eastern time
every single day. We mentioned, we've been in Colorado, so
the time difference has really been messing with us because
we have to have it ready local time by.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
Four thirty eight. Right. That means actually published by forty thirty, which.

Speaker 1 (00:33):
Means we've been getting up around one am Mountain time.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (00:37):
Us.

Speaker 3 (00:37):
We don't want you to feel sorry for us. We
just want you to know how hard this is and
how dedicated we are. But let's get starting on the
Morning Run. There's morning on this Thursday and on the
run today boy. President Trump added again making another headline
grabbing market shifting unexpected tariff announcement yesterday, this time that
he's putting a ninety day pause on tariffs.

Speaker 1 (00:59):
He just in place a pause for pretty much everybody
but China. Trump punishing the country with an even higher
terror for retaliating, and the markets surged to historic levels
within seconds of Trump's announcements.

Speaker 3 (01:12):
Also on the run this morning, a shift from rescue
to recovery following the deadly roof collapse in the Dominican
Republic as the death toll rises there dramatically. Also, a
second inmate has chosen to die by firing squad in
the state of South Carolina. That execution set for tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (01:29):
Plus Pope Francis is taking visitors royal ones only at
this point, Plus the price of a stamp is possibly
going up. And Celine Dion's My Heart Will Go On
just made it onto a prestigious list, But the theme song
from Minecraft made it onto the same list.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
We're gonna explain that one.

Speaker 3 (01:48):
Also this morning, get ready to see Lebron pull up
to the Barbie Playhouse in a pink Corvette and a chainsaw,
a mannequin head, and live lobsters just some of the
item's Uberrider left behind. We're gonna have the annual and
Interesting Lost and Found Index from Uber. It tells you
what people lost most and some of the interesting things.

(02:09):
You can guess some of them. But this is a
fun little oh.

Speaker 1 (02:11):
I had a blast reading this one, cannot wait to
share it with all of you. But we must begin
our morning run with that dramatic reversal. President Trump announcing
a ninety day pause in his higher tariffs for most countries,
but said he was keeping a ten percent baseline tariff
in place for all imports.

Speaker 3 (02:28):
Okay, again, most countries get the ninety day pause, but
not you China. President Trump is singling out China, announcing
he was not going to pause tariffs on Chinese goods,
but in fact, he's going to increase them and big time.

Speaker 2 (02:42):
That's right.

Speaker 1 (02:42):
Once China announced a reciprocal tariff on US imports because
they were responding to what President Trump had done, so
they raised the imports to eighty four percent tariff. After
Trump increased the tariff on Chinese imports to one hundred
and four percent, Trump announcing that now there's going to
be one hundred and twenty five percent terraf on Chinese goods.

Speaker 3 (03:03):
So the two countries, we're essentially throwing haymakers at each other,
seeing who is going to flinch or fall first. But
Trump said his decision to do this now was based
on days of conversations he had with foreign leaders, but
that he ultimately made the call early yesterday morning.

Speaker 1 (03:17):
The Treasury Secretary said it took great courage for President
Trump to stay the course until that last moment, saying
what he mentioned last week came true.

Speaker 2 (03:25):
Do not retaliate, and you will be rewarded.

Speaker 1 (03:28):
And that is exactly what they're saying about China, that
they retaliated and now they've been punished.

Speaker 3 (03:33):
Well, as you can imagine with this news, the stock
markets loved it. They love what they heard from President
Trump yesterday, and that takes us to a next leg
of our run. The markets had one of their best
days in history, with one of its biggest rallies in decades.

Speaker 1 (03:48):
The S and P had its largest one day gain
since two thousand and eight, soaring more than nine and
a half percent. That ranks us the third biggest game
for the gain for that index since World War II.
The Doubt Jones jumped nearly three thousand points, and the
Nasdaq had its biggest one day jump since January of
two thousand and one and its second best day ever

(04:09):
in its history, up more than twelve percent.

Speaker 3 (04:11):
Yeah Shortly after the markets opened yesterday, Trump told investors
that now was a great time to buy. Yes, he
is the UH. I guess he's giving financial advice now,
our financial advisor in chief. Yeah, the markets enched up slightly.
Then when he made the tariff Paul's announcement, within seconds,
the stocks surge more than two thousand points.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Could that be insider trading?

Speaker 1 (04:31):
I mean, he knew what he was about to do,
He told people to buy, and then the prices went up.
So if you actually did what he told you to do,
you made some money yesterday.

Speaker 3 (04:39):
I'm sure he could find a way to get around
any insider training occuations.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Wednesday was the heaviest trading volume day in Wall Street history.
This morning, all the key stock markets in both Asia
and Europe have surged in early training. The US futures, however,
are down slightly this morning.

Speaker 2 (04:56):
But it's negligible, all right.

Speaker 3 (04:57):
It's incredible just how somebody's words are sentence move that
kind of volatility. People are making and losing money in
a staggering way, just on simple words and announcements. So
stand by, we'll see what happens today. We unfortunately now
have to take this next leg of our run in
Santo Domingo, who all hope is fading there in the
Dominican Republic of finding any more survivors in the rubble

(05:19):
of that nightclub roof collapse.

Speaker 1 (05:21):
Authorities have now confirmed at least one hundred and eighty
four people were killed, and crews are now focusing on
recovery rather than rescue efforts. There had been hope and
a frantic effort to reach people who were possibly trapped
under the rubble of the jet Set nightclub.

Speaker 3 (05:37):
Yeah, the roof collapse onto hundreds of people in the
early morning hours Tuesday. They had gathered there at the
club for a concert. How authorities say some people died
instantly when concrete slabs fell onto them, but police also
say some who survived the initial collapse actually made nine
to one one call saying they were trapped under the rubble.

Speaker 1 (05:56):
One hundred and forty five people were rescued in the
immediate aftermath, but authorities say they did not recover anyone
alive all day Wednesday. Right now, the cause of the
roof collapse is unknown, but certainly investigations will be underway.

Speaker 3 (06:09):
All right. Next leg of our run, we will head
to South Carolina. You'll remember it was just last month
we were telling you about the firing squad execution of
a death row inmate in that state, in South Carolina.
It was the first such execution by this method in
this country in ten years. And now another one is
already happening, and it's happening tomorrow.

Speaker 1 (06:29):
And again it's happening in South Carolina. Convicted murderer Michael
Maddy chose the firing squad as his preferred way to die.
It was also the choice of another convicted murderer, Brad Sigmund,
made last month, making him the first person in the
US to be executed by firing squad in ten years.
But before that, only three people in the US had

(06:50):
ever died by firing squad in the past fifty years.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Man Tomorrow's execution is scheduled for six pm. Few are
holding out hope that the Governor of Court is going
to grant any last minute reprieve. The way this works,
again we talked about it last month. But you have
three volunteer shooters who are going to stand in that
chamber essentially fifteen feet from Madi, who's going to have
a target on his chest with a red bullseye. These

(07:14):
are all volunteer shooters and they will all have live rounds.
I think you're looking at the page. There's an extra
note in here. It's just kind of remarkable to think
that this is what's going to happen. But they're using
specialized bullets that are supposed to do the most damage.
They essentially break into fragments as soon as they strike something,
So the idea is that all those fragments are supposed

(07:35):
to do as much damage to the heart as possible. Again,
this is just the reality. We're sharing that detail. But
this is happening in this country, and these things. A
few states still do this, but South Carolina's.

Speaker 1 (07:46):
One of them. Look, and I think some inmates are
obviously looking for the most, the quickest, and the least
painful way to die. And there are concerns about other
methods that are being used in other states. We've talked
about it within nitrogen gas, certainly concerns about lethal injection.
So it makes sense if that's the design to make

(08:07):
a kill quickly, I can understand why an inmate would.

Speaker 2 (08:09):
Want that, all right.

Speaker 1 (08:10):
Next up on our run, Pope Francis is apparently doing
well enough in his recovery that he is now receiving
guests albeit royal guests.

Speaker 3 (08:18):
Yes, King Charles and his wife Camella swung by the
Vatican yesterday to meet with the still recovering Pontiff, who
was released from the hospital just a couple of weeks
ago after a month long stay.

Speaker 1 (08:28):
Initially, he was admitted for bronchitis, but he ended up
with double pneumonia, his medical team revealing last week that
Pope Francis actually came close to death on two occasions.
Charles and Camilla are in Italy. This is all a
part of an official state visit.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
Yeah Bulcanham Palace released a statement saying their majesties were
delighted the Pope was well enough to host them and
to have had the opportunity to share their best wishes
in person. The Pope also played the role though of
well wisher to King Charles, who was recently hospitalized himself
because of complications from cancer treatment.

Speaker 1 (09:00):
The Vatican said the Pontiff expressed his good wishes to
their majesties on the occasion of their anniversary and sent
back to his majesty a speedy recovery of his health.
Yes anniversary, Charles and Camilla celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary
yesterday as well, so there was a lot to celebrate.
But I couldn't help but imagine, you know, when you
get older, all you do is exchange, like your medical

(09:21):
stories with one another. I just could see that happening
between the Pope and King Charles, your hip.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
You should see what's going on with my lungs? Like
you know, whatever it was.

Speaker 3 (09:31):
We know this happened. We folks to get together. How
are you doing well? Let me tell you. I imagine
their conversation.

Speaker 1 (09:37):
After you get to a certain age, that's pretty much
all you talk about.

Speaker 3 (09:40):
It was the funk. We can be lighthearted about it
now because the ponta of a doubt and seems to
be doing better. But the idea that the pontiff who
was in the hospital near death for a month plus,
is telling somebody else, hey, good look in your.

Speaker 2 (09:52):
Recovery, well exactly that's where we are, all right.

Speaker 3 (09:55):
We will continue here and let's ask this question I
asked you earlier, and I'll have to admit I did
no Right now, folks, do you know, off the top
of your head how much a first class stamp costs?
Did you know?

Speaker 2 (10:08):
I absolutely did not know.

Speaker 3 (10:10):
Okay, all I remember is twenty five cents when I
was a child, when your kid, you remember twenty five
cent stamp. It is now, folks, seventy three cents. It
is seventy three cents, and it is going up.

Speaker 1 (10:21):
Possibly, Yes, the US Postal Service wants to raise the
price of a forever stamp to now seventy eight cents.
Here's the argument. They need the money. The stamp price
went up five cents last summer, but the USPS says
another increase is part of their plan to gain financial stability.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
So the Postal Service has the answer to the Postal
Regulatory Commission, so they had to ask them to give
the ok for another increase. The increase would take affect
July thirteenth. Little historical perspective here. Flat rate stamps were
first introduced in the late eighteen hundreds when they first
came out two cents. Didn't hit fifteen cents until around
nineteen eighty. But the interesting fact here, in the first

(10:58):
one hundred years of a stamp, thirty cents been in
the past twenty five years, it's going up some forty
So it's I just I've said, just make it a
dollar and leave us alone for the next.

Speaker 2 (11:07):
That's a good idea. And you know what, I think
we can afford a five cent increase.

Speaker 1 (11:11):
I don't even I don't even mail that many letters anymore,
so I think it's a fair price to pay.

Speaker 3 (11:16):
I still consider it a good deal. It is me.
I can pay a dollar for a stamp, send me
through a dollar, and you'll take this letter from New
York to LA for me. Thanks, appreciate it. I agreed,
I'll take that deal. We'll stay with us here, folks
on this Thursday Morning Ron when we come back. We
just learned that Celine Beyond Tracy Chapman are getting a
prestigious honor. But why in the world is the Minecraft

(11:41):
theme song getting the same honor? We'll explain. Also, my
favorite story of the day is that Lebron is being
invited to the Barbie Playhouse. And how much stuff have
you left in an Uber? Well, you wouldn't believe some
of the things people have left. We get Uber's annual lists.

Speaker 1 (11:57):
Stay with us, Welcome back everyone to this Thursday morning run.
Next up on the run, we have just learned the
twenty five new titles being added to the United States
National Recording Registry. Not familiar we weren't. But here's the deal.

(12:19):
Every year, twenty five recordings are chosen to a prestigious
list of titles to be preserved for their historical and
cultural significance.

Speaker 3 (12:27):
Okay, so twenty five recordings. Let's see how you feel about.
Some of these are Elon John nineteen seventy three, Goodbye
Yellow Brick Roade is being added to the last Amy
Winehouse Back to Black. That was a fantastic absolutely albums Hamilton,
the original Broadway cast album that makes sense, Steve millerband
Fly Like an Eagle like ego. Yeah, and here's the

(12:50):
one Tracy Chapman, her nineteen eighty eight album, which is
called Tracy Chapman. It's on the list. Celine Dion single
My Heart Will Go On That's a uh, no brainer there,
it feels like. And they're Mary J. Blige teen ninety
four album My Life also made the list.

Speaker 1 (13:04):
Yes, and the list is made up, as you just heard,
mainly of songs and recording artists, but other sound recordings
can also make it onto the list. How about the
radio broadcast of Game seven of the nineteen sixty World Series,
Chuck Thompson, I'm not familiar with it, but Okay, I
get it. The Minecraft video game theme I actually have
never played.

Speaker 2 (13:23):
I listened to it. I don't get it, but I'm
sure the kids do.

Speaker 1 (13:27):
And the Microsoft reboot Chime, I also had listened to that,
and as soon as I heard it, I was like, oh, yeah,
that is absolutely iconic.

Speaker 3 (13:34):
But the key there is sound recordings. And I obviously
automatically first thought nothing but songs. But these are things.
They consider these and what they call them audio treasures. Yeah,
that are worthy of preservation. That Microsoft Chime has played
a role in all of our lives for eight years
and every.

Speaker 2 (13:50):
Day it does right.

Speaker 1 (13:51):
And if you don't think you know it, just google
it and as soon as you hear it, it kind
of makes it's nostalgic almost.

Speaker 2 (13:57):
I get it. I get it.

Speaker 3 (13:59):
Well, we can tell you run this morning now with
what is my absolutely favorite story of the day. He
has won NBA Championships, Olympic Gold Medals, League MVP Awards,
and is now even the all time leading scorer in
NBA history, But Lebron James is now about to get
what is arguably the greatest achievement of his legendary career.

Speaker 1 (14:19):
A Kendall yes Ken as in Barbie and Ken. The
company made the announcement yesterday that Lebron will be the
first professional athlete to ever be immortalized in the Barbie
family of dolls. Here's what the company said in a statement.
We are excited to bring fans a new presentation of
Ken that celebrates Lebron as a role model, his icon status,

(14:40):
lasting impact on culture, and dedication to setting a positive
example for the next generation to reach their limitless potential.

Speaker 3 (14:47):
Okay, so what does Lebron Kendall look like. You'll certainly
google it and see it, but he's not actually in
a basketball uniform. He's wearing a varsity jacket that says
lj on It has on black sunglasses. He has on
Beats headphones, also wearing a fanny pack. They actually made
this thing. Isn't this cool? It's taller than the other dolls.

Speaker 2 (15:07):
I think that's hilarious.

Speaker 1 (15:08):
Right.

Speaker 3 (15:10):
Lebron's about six eight sixty nine, so they have to
make the doll a little taller. It comes in a
bigger box. It goes on cell next week for seventy
five dollars. I have a question, Rolls, and I need
you to settle And everybody helped me out. I thought
Ken and Barbie were in a relationship. We're dating? Is
that not the case over the years? I, well.

Speaker 1 (15:30):
Yeah, it's it's been implied. Yes, I mean, but Barbie
has her own dream house, like she lives apart from camp.

Speaker 3 (15:38):
Well, they have, but they're not married, so they shouldn't
live together. Correct, that's the rule, right, Yes, But this
is the part of the game and the way I
asked because in their announcement Mattel said, and I'm quoting,
Ken is Barbie's longtime best friend and supporter.

Speaker 1 (15:53):
Maybe they're trying to get away from the whole relationship
thing because now it's just so frowned upon, you know,
it's like, don't define us.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
At the very least, he's her best friend and supporter. Fine,
did I just ruin that story for you?

Speaker 3 (16:06):
Well, it kind of ruined the whole Ken and Ken
and Barbie.

Speaker 2 (16:09):
I thought they were Yeah.

Speaker 3 (16:10):
What about the Barbie movie? Were they're dating?

Speaker 1 (16:12):
In that? We'll see it's like implied like they like
each other, but it's like flirty and so innocent.

Speaker 2 (16:19):
So I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
I thought they're a boyfriend girlfriend, but.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
I did two. I did two.

Speaker 3 (16:23):
He's a longtime best friend and supporter.

Speaker 1 (16:25):
That's awesome.

Speaker 2 (16:26):
Okay, all right, that's what we're calling it. That's that's
what you are to me, baby, all right.

Speaker 1 (16:30):
And for the final leg of our run, have you
ever left your cell phone in an Uber? Well, join
the club. It's a club of one point seven million
of us. That is how many people Uber says left
their cell phones behind in just last year.

Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah, that is one of several interesting nuggets. And ubers
just released ninth annual Lost and Found Index, which lets
us know what items are most commonly left behind by
Uber riders. Also lets us know about some of the
most uncommon and unusual items left behind. So let's start
with the top three the most left behind items. If
you give you ten seconds, you would come up with
this on your own. But yes, the top three phones, keys, wallets.

Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yep, that totally makes sense. This was funny.

Speaker 1 (17:10):
The most forgetful city New York, followed by Miami and
then Chicago. I feel like those are cities where people
party a lot, all right. The most forgetful Day that's
the day that the highest number of items were reported
lost for whatever reason. It was October twenty sixth. That
was this Saturday before Halloween. Again, a lot of people

(17:30):
probably out partying.

Speaker 3 (17:32):
That makes sense. That's the next thing, because I saw
October twenty something. What since does that make you think
that's what it was?

Speaker 1 (17:36):
Yes, I think people go out and party and they
get drunk, and so yes, this would then read the
most common time that people lost SEID items were between
eleven PM and midnight.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
This is all coming together thematically.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
This thing even tells us obertells which team's fans are
the most forgetful. Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Speaker 1 (17:56):
Most forgetful or most intoxicated. I mean, that's just what
I want. I fel like they're just using forgetful for intoxicate.

Speaker 3 (18:02):
But they also have the most to celebrate as of
late as well. Some of the most bizarre items left
behind in ubers last year a mannequin head with human hair.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
How did they know it was human hair?

Speaker 3 (18:12):
Hey, I'm only giving you what I told us. Also,
they said live lobsters were left behind.

Speaker 1 (18:17):
Okay, how about a Viking drinking horn, a chainsaw, And
here's one of my favorites, breast milk.

Speaker 3 (18:25):
M that is, Now that's some precious stuff. Somebody was
upset they left that behind. Also, somebody lived on a
turtle a urinal have no idea how that happened, and
I'd have no idea how somebody left behind one hundred
and seventy five Hamburgers.

Speaker 1 (18:37):
I mean, the only thing I can think of is
they put him in the trunk and then they forgot.
So that has happened to my dad. He was running
after the car. He left his briefcase in the trunk.
He did get it back. But do you remember what
I left in an uber and could not get back?

Speaker 3 (18:53):
Of course I do, because I gave it to you.

Speaker 1 (18:55):
I think I'd only warned them twice. Some very precious
Nike running snaw Alpha flies.

Speaker 3 (19:01):
Yes, it was a gift. We were heading on this trip.
I left him, and I was devastating.

Speaker 1 (19:05):
It was actually so. I got in the uber and
realized I had left them.

Speaker 2 (19:08):
I went up.

Speaker 1 (19:09):
I ran to my apartment to get the running shoes
because we were going to go running. It was dark, dark, dark,
early morning, and when I got out of the uber,
I had forgotten that I left the shoes right underneath me.
They weren't with my bags. They were and yep, and
never saw them again.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
So sunglasses are my thing that I've left more than
anything in a uber. All guys, I've left and never
got back to sunglasses.

Speaker 1 (19:29):
And we've tried, and you've reached out, and so I
bet you that's probably a nice side hustle or some
of those uber drivers.

Speaker 3 (19:36):
All I folked on this Thursday before we let you go.
As you go about your day, something we'd like for
you to consider it is our quote of the day.

Speaker 1 (19:42):
I have heard versions of this, and I saw this
this morning, and I love this quote. Here it is
twenty years from now, you will be more disappointed by
the things you didn't do than by the things you did.
And I didn't realize that was Mark Twain who said that,
but I've heard versions of that, and I just think
it's a It's an important way to go about making
decisions about what you're going to do and perhaps what you're.

Speaker 2 (20:05):
Not gonna do.

Speaker 3 (20:05):
Yeah, you say this all the time about being on
your deathbed and things you will regret. You are not
going to regret taking the trip. You'll regret that you
didn't take the trip.

Speaker 1 (20:13):
And even if what you did resulted in some in
an outcome you didn't like, you learn something from it.
And so there's always value in trying and doing even
when you make mistakes. So we'll give it to you
one more time. Here's your quote of the day for
this Thursday. Twenty years from now, you will be more
disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the
things you did. Thank you for that, Mark Twain, and

(20:35):
thank you everyone for running with us.

Speaker 3 (20:37):
I mean you Robot, and I'm TJ. Holmes. Remember to
check the uber before you get out see how tomorrow
