Speaker 1 (00:01):
Hello, Critter Protectors, Mister Jim here and welcome to Kids
Animal Stories, a place where there's always a mystery and
adventure around every single corner. If you love critters of
all shapes and sizes, I need you on our Critter
Protector team. Join our adventure as we learn about critters

(00:23):
from around the world and.

Speaker 2 (00:25):
In our back yards. Well, my friends, are you ready
for today's adventure? Me too, Let's go. Today's episode is
a mystery adventure, which means, my Gritter Protectors, you were
going to have to listen extra super super close to

(00:47):
the clues that are going to be hidden throughout the story.
I'm not going to tell you who our main character is,
what kind of animal it is, or a critter. It's
going to be up to you to solve this mystery
and figure out who is Allegro. Once upon a time,
in a wood chip pile at the edge of a

(01:09):
small forest, there lived a tiny, but fierce critter named Allegro.
Allegro lived as far south as her species could go,
southern Florida. She was beautiful, but most left her alone

(01:29):
because of her scary defence mechanism. Her shiny black body
had hair and a few other special features, one of
them quite pretty scary. Allegro was an expert builder, and
she used her creations to catch insects for her meals. Ah, gross,

(01:56):
have you ever eaten a bug for breakfast?

Speaker 3 (02:00):
Me? Neither.

Speaker 2 (02:01):
Although she herself was elegant and had beautiful designs, her
home was well quite disorganized and kind of a jumbled mess.

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Ah, a little messy, a little sticky.

Speaker 2 (02:18):
But mm yep, this is strong. This is the life
that is the hole for me, she said to herself
as she continued working hard. She was building a new
space between some larger branches that got stuck in the
mulch pile. Usually the pieces of wood were so small

(02:40):
and kind of hard to find a space between. But
today was her lucky day. Alle girl lived alone, but
she sure knew how to stay busy building hunting, building hunting.
This was her rhythm and she kind of liked it

(03:01):
that way. Sometimes a passing critter would stop to chat,
if it wasn't the type Allegro would normally fees done. Hey,
there's taccato, Allegra called, as her little friend hopped along
towards her staccato. The little jumping spider was moving along
looking for food. Hey you, Legro, Who are you today?

Speaker 3 (03:24):
He asked?

Speaker 4 (03:25):
Oh, I'm fine, just building a knife little spot here
in these branches.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Oh looking good, Yep, yep, looking good, he called back
as he hopped along by. Staccato knew that Allegra wasn't
interested in snatching him up, as long as he kept
his cool and his distance. She would much rather catch
wood lice, something there was plenty of in their wood

(03:52):
chip pile. As the day went on, Allegra quietly followed
her usual beat. A little snake named Legato slithered smoothly
on by. Hi, fair Allegro. Legatto, the snake called, is Legotto,

(04:13):
Oh where are you heading? She wasn't used to seeing
her slither by on with such determination. Oh it's just
that time of year. I'm trying to find the best
place to lay my Eggslegatto said. Hmmm, I guess it

(04:35):
is that time a year, isn't it, Allegra said. She
stopped and thought for a second. Then out of nowhere, she.

Speaker 3 (04:44):
Was startled like crazy by a strange tickling feeling.

Speaker 2 (04:49):
Ah what was that? She shouted aloud. Allegra looked around,
but Logotto was already gone.

Speaker 3 (04:59):
Why I gotto.

Speaker 2 (05:02):
I need someone to tell me what this is. A
Lego tried to calm down and just ignore it, but
this funny feeling started happening again and again and again.

Speaker 3 (05:17):
This super strange feeling was in her belly, and she
soon realized that it meant it.

Speaker 2 (05:22):
Was time to wait. Hold on a second, what do
you think this funny feeling is. Do you think it's
a toot or something?

Speaker 3 (05:32):
Could be? Could be?

Speaker 2 (05:33):
I get a funny feeling in my tummy when there's
a toot coming. How about you. I don't think it's bad.
I think it's almost time for her to lay some
eggs of her own. Wait a second, what kind of
critter is this? Do you have any guesses? Billy me?

Speaker 4 (05:54):
I should have known, uh, Legotto laying eggs? That was
a signal, I guess.

Speaker 2 (06:01):
She laughed a little at herself and cut back to work.
She began to spin a safe ball of sorts with
lots and lots of silky string all around. As she worked,
she knew she had to hurry. She knew that once
her eggs hatched, she would need to protect her babies

(06:21):
from predators and teach them how to hunt. Hmmm, have
you ever seen a critter that wraps their eggs in
a ball of silk. Hmm, our cats don't do that. No,
I've never seen a lizard do that. But in the world,
we know that she's small enough to build her home

(06:44):
in a wood chip pile. So yeah, it couldn't be
anything huge or even very big at all, but you
better keep listening. A leg row spun and spun a
tight little white ball was started to look very secure,
But just as she was about to lay her last egg,

(07:06):
someone appeared in the shadows. Ah, who's there?

Speaker 4 (07:10):
Who is that?

Speaker 2 (07:11):
It is that you? Staccato, Allegro called out. She was
very anxious and hoped it wasn't anyone might hurt her nest.
She watched and waited. Then out of the dark corner
of the.

Speaker 3 (07:27):
Wood chips, a large and aggressive wolf spider appeared, and
it had its eyes on Allegro's eggs. Oh no, what
is a legger going to do? Will her eggs become
scrambled and eaten by the wolf spider or will they

(07:48):
be saved?

Speaker 2 (07:49):
And hold on a second, let's see this mystery critter.
Allegro is black and elegant. She builds her home like
a jumbled up mess of silk. Okay, it seems is
she some kind of spider hmmm, We will just have
to keep listening to the next episode. Hey, friends, it's

(08:12):
time for some credit Protector shout outs. I want to
say hey to Carson from Pennsylvania, Dahlia from Washington, Liam
from Iowa, Brooks from Idaho, Marigold from Michigan, Jacob from
New York, Tucklin from California, and Caiden and Avon from Australia.

Speaker 3 (08:33):
I'm so glad that you're all critter protectors. We could
not protect all the critters in our world and in
our backyards.

Speaker 2 (08:42):
Without you, my friends. Well, you have a superb Duperney,
and I will see you on our next adventure. Bye.
