Speaker 1 (00:10):
My god, no count.
Speaker 2 (00:15):
I love her.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
He Oh my god, Hi everybody. How's everybody doing?
Speaker 4 (00:21):
Wow?
Speaker 3 (00:22):
There are a lot of Gayer fans in here. Wow,
that is what sucks. Gamesville is in the building. Okay,
I know, I love it. I love it. But I
see some love some family, some women's sports family in
here too, absolutely love it. The game clocks are in
here represented for sure.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
The game coops show up everywhere everywhere.
Speaker 3 (00:44):
I see some huskis in here too, though, in the bag.
I love that. I love that.
Speaker 1 (00:49):
Wait, are there any Texas fans? Are they? U?
Speaker 5 (00:55):
C l A?
Speaker 3 (00:55):
They still be some Bruins around still? Some Bruis know
they would They went home and shame. That's what that was.
They went home and they.
Speaker 1 (01:02):
Should have gotten on the first thing.
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Smoking not really really, No, we're just joking. We're just joking.
But we are very excited and honored to be here
to have some fun talk about you know, some women's basketball,
maybe some other things, and maybe have some special guests
join us really quick, and maybe we got some giveaways.
So the more you pay attention, the more you may
have an opportunity to win some stuff. Okay, great, but
first and foremost we're here in Tampa because it is
(01:25):
the women's Final four, and I don't know if y'all
have been paying attention or living under a rock. And
if you've been living under a rock, I feel so
terrible for you. But women's sports is the ish. Can
I cuss? I'm not gonna cuss. It's the family establishment, Okay,
I say, any kids, I'm just saying, I don't know.
I don't know. This is a family one.
Speaker 1 (01:43):
Just close it covering his ears.
Speaker 3 (01:44):
Family establishment, but not really. Women's basketball has been like
ridiculously good, and this final four, we have some ridiculously
good teams and it almost all chalked with like all
four of the number one seas except you know, you
shout out to microL Juju and we you know, wishing
her the best. Yes, shout out to her. But at
(02:06):
the end of the day, it came down to Texas, UCLA,
South Carolina and Yukon. And I was expecting it to
be like water Wall, especially South Carolina Texas. I was like, Yo,
this is about to be good. It's the fourth time. Yes,
And then it ain't really happened like that. It didn't
(02:27):
at all happen like that. It started like that I
was like, oh, Texas came out, they were ready, and
then I don't know what happened. So what were your thoughts?
Speaker 1 (02:34):
Okay, before I get into my thoughts, like tim.
Speaker 3 (02:37):
Y'all, it's hot, it's hot, it's hot, and I got
a damn I'm Texas.
Speaker 1 (02:41):
But y'all's heat is a little different right now. Okay.
Speaker 2 (02:45):
So, first of all, my teens were for the final four, Okay.
Speaker 1 (02:50):
I had Notre Dame.
Speaker 2 (02:52):
Coming out of that region, and I don't know what happened,
but I had UCLA yeah, South Carolina yeah, and Yukon.
Speaker 1 (03:00):
So three out of the four not too bad.
Speaker 4 (03:02):
Okay.
Speaker 1 (03:02):
So here are my thoughts about last night.
Speaker 2 (03:05):
So prior to the game, we did like a little
chalk talk, okay, and they were asking me.
Speaker 1 (03:10):
About who I thought was gonna win at.
Speaker 2 (03:12):
All, okay, and I couldn't say, but I'm gonna tell
you why I couldn't say later.
Speaker 1 (03:18):
But my thing was, I said with Texas.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
My concern with Texas, which I've had all season long,
is offensively can they score enough points?
Speaker 4 (03:29):
Right?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Like Madison Booker is going to be a first ballot
Hall of Famer. Yeah, I love me some Madison Booker.
I love Roy Harmon. My concern though, is I'm never
worried about it. They're going to defend because that's what
Vic Schaeffer, That's what he does. They're gonna defend.
Speaker 1 (03:44):
But my concern was can they score enough.
Speaker 2 (03:46):
So when the game started last night and they're scoring, right,
I'm getting all these text messages about.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
You were wrong, they can score.
Speaker 3 (03:52):
Oh oh.
Speaker 1 (03:53):
And then halftime happened and.
Speaker 2 (03:55):
They came back out and they couldn't score. But South
Carolina came back out and Joyce Edwards. Let me just
tell you.
Speaker 3 (04:05):
These freshmen are different.
Speaker 1 (04:06):
Joyce Edwards was not a freshman in that game last night.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
She came out the whole game, but especially the second half,
and Joyce Edwards showed up and showed out and was
a big difference in that game.
Speaker 3 (04:18):
Yeah, for sure. I mean I had similar sentiments because
I also, I feel so bad we just really threw
Texas under a rock because I didn't have Texas in
my final four either. I had TCU, so sorry.
Speaker 1 (04:30):
You at least had a Texas.
Speaker 3 (04:31):
I did, but I thought it was gonna be TCU.
So I had TCU, U, CLA, Yukon and South Carolina,
and I'm gona tell you all funny story real quick, right,
because I'm usually one to stand on business. I typically
will always stand on business until you put brian A.
Steward in my face, and then I'm not quite sure
how much business I could stand on in that situation. Right,
(04:54):
So we on the elevator, me and my friend Christina.
Shout out to Christina, she is also a Samhart talent,
the host of Just in Case You Missed It with
Christina Williams. So me and Christina on the elevator, right,
and it just so happens to be brian A Seward
and her pops on the elevator. So we chilling, a k, Hey,
what's going on? And then there's another person in the
elevator who's a fan, and she knows we all like basketball,
and so she says, so, who do you guys like
(05:15):
winning the national championship? So Me and Christina like, for real,
you're gonna ask us this Brina Stewart and the elevator.
Now I picked South Carolina, but Sewie is in the elevator.
Speaker 4 (05:29):
I'm not finna stand on business.
Speaker 3 (05:30):
I was like Bleae Blue go Husky because I was
not about to have those kind of problems. But I
will say I did think that South Carolina was going
to win last night, but I thought it would have
been a much closer match. The problem is to what
you point out is that when South Carolina puts the
Clams down and a team has to fight their way back,
(05:53):
the best way to get back is by shooting threes,
taking long shots, and all season long, Texas has had
an issue with shooting from distance. They actually retired for
last in the SEC. So I was like, if they
can get out, maybe get some good transition buckets or
not allowed South Carolina to set up defensively, then they've
got a great opportunity. But unfortunately, because South Carolina is
(06:16):
also dangerous defensively, they did not give Texas any chance
to do that. So once the game started to get
out of hand a little bit, and everybody had a piece, right,
Malaysia full Wiley, she came off the bench. Then you
saw Tessa Johnson, she came off the bench with a piece,
and then you saw Joyce Edwards to your point, look
like a ten year vet. So it was kind of like,
(06:39):
this ain't gonna be good for y'all, no more. No.
Speaker 2 (06:43):
But so here's what I think. Okay, so I'm a
Red Raider. Y'all know raiders can't root for Longhorns, but
I was cheering for the Texas team.
Speaker 3 (06:54):
There you go, not to win.
Speaker 2 (06:56):
I just wanted them to play well and for it
to be a good game because y'all, like I ride.
Speaker 1 (07:00):
Hard for Dawn, you know that.
Speaker 2 (07:03):
So here's what I do think. I don't know who's
gonna win tomorrow. I really don't, And I kind of
hate saying that, but I love it because I really
think it's anybody's game.
Speaker 1 (07:15):
I think Yukon.
Speaker 2 (07:16):
Is playing so well right, oh God, like they're clicking
on all cylinders. Paige Becker's is a problem because she
is just flat out scoring the basketball asy fuds. Like
they're playing really well right. So, absolutely, Yukon has a
great shot at winning at all. I think tomorrow South
Carolina like they're finally going to show up and everybody's
(07:40):
going to play well and have a good game. And
I'm gonna say I think we're gonna go to overtime tomorrow.
Oh only because I'm never ready for the college season
to be overtime.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
I think that would be a lot of fun.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
Last thing, so the way Yukon beat up on South
Carolina the last time they played. Yeah, Like South Carolina
gotta be feeling some type of way, right.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
But Yukon has got to also be very.
Speaker 2 (08:09):
Confident, yeah, in coming into this game tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (08:12):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
So for South Carolina, they have to get off to
a quick start. They can't do what they've been doing
the last few games or it's gonna be a problem. Yeah.
And for Yukon, Yukon just has to continue to play
the way they're playing.
Speaker 4 (08:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (08:25):
Yeah, I think we agree. I think we agree on
the most part that we haven't seen South Carolina play
their best basketball just yet. We finally saw Azy Fud
wake up because as was kind of chilling for Yukon.
She was like, I'm doing me, and then all of
a sudden, she did her. I think South Carolina has
to make sure they can in on Yukon's big three,
(08:45):
but I also think that Yukon has to make sure
that they are not allowing I don't want to say
South Carolina's bench of South Carolina's death, but they just
need to be mindful that they're a D team, so
you can't focus in on one person. It could be
anybody's game. At any time, right, So that's gonna be important.
But I do think it's gonna be a great matchup.
I like I said, I'm gonna stand on business. I
(09:07):
picked South Carolina to win it, all okay, So I'm
gonna stick with them, gonna be consistent. I'm gonna be
even even when Stuie is in the elevator when seven,
When Stuie is in the elevator, I'm not I'm alive.
I'm a lie be like I picked Yukon. Go ahead,
But I will say this, I would not be surprised.
I think Yukinda has been the best team in the tournament.
They have won convincingly. And I live in Connecticut. So
(09:29):
if Yukon does win, don't be looking at me funny
when I'm at the parade, because I'm gonna be at
the parade, all right. I'm gonna have some fun with
the Usky sorrow. I'm just saying because if I lived
in South Carolina and they would, I would be at
day parade. I'm just here. Clearly, I'm here for the party.
That's essentially what I'm saying is I'm here for the party.
Your team win, I'm showing up, no doubt.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
There.
Speaker 3 (09:50):
That is, that's how we go. So that's what we
got going on. But you know, outside of the games,
what I love about Final Four is that it always
brings out some of the best people, like folks that
we haven't seen or folks who we've missed and wanted
to be around. It's like a family reunion. Even in
(10:10):
here right now, I'm seeing some faces that I haven't
seen in a while. I see my Soros in here.
I gotta give a shout out to my Sores of
Sigma Gammar role in the building. Okay, Soras in a building.
So I love the fact that Final four brings people out.
And I noticed that apparently the Final Four has brought
out someone else and did that we haven't seen, yeah
(10:32):
in a while.
Speaker 1 (10:33):
Before you bring her up? Can I say one thing?
Speaker 3 (10:35):
You can say a lot of things. It was just
one thing.
Speaker 1 (10:37):
Because of where we are.
Speaker 2 (10:38):
Like I know there are tons of Florida Gator fans
in here tonight.
Speaker 1 (10:42):
Yeah, Like y'all.
Speaker 2 (10:45):
Know Florida Gators beat up on my Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Speaker 1 (10:48):
Yeah them.
Speaker 5 (10:49):
Like.
Speaker 2 (10:49):
I so thought we had that game one until the
last like two minutes of the game, and what happened.
Speaker 3 (10:55):
I don't know. I don't know what happened to.
Speaker 1 (10:57):
My question is who do you have picked to win?
Speaker 5 (11:00):
Men?
Speaker 3 (11:00):
Oh, well, I have Florida in Duke playing in the
and that's legit. I'm I'm really I really did have
Florida in Duke. So I don't I'm not just saying
that because I'm in a hostile environment like I really did.
But but but I'm an honest individual, right. I had
two brackets, don't y'all judge me. I had two brackets,
(11:25):
and my first brackets I had Florida in Duke and
my second bracket. I'm from Detroit. I am a Michigan
State girl. So clearly I was like, Michigan State is
gonna win it all. I know we wasn't gonna win
it all for real, but I had to have one
that's said we was gonna win it all. Okay, So yes,
that's so. I do have Florida in Duke playing a
(11:46):
national championship on my dad.
Speaker 1 (11:47):
I got Florida.
Speaker 3 (11:50):
Okay, Okay, there you go, but you got who you
got winning. Listen to Florida fans. Okay, I'm visiting Florida.
Speaker 1 (12:01):
I'm living in Houston. Go coos.
Speaker 3 (12:19):
Okay, we gotta keep it moving. We have we do
have a special guest, a legend in w NBA. I
love her because you know, she didn't know that I
like remembered her when I saw her. So I felt
mad disrespected at the fact that you think I know
who you was. Okay, but before I was playing for
the before it was the silent reporter for the Connecticut Son.
(12:42):
I grew up a diehard Detroit Shock fan, and so
I know that Andrea Stinton has her time with the
Charlotte Sting, but to me, she will always and forever
be a Detroit Shock. I'm just throwing that out there, Okay,
but I want you all to put your hands together
for the great Andrea Stinson.
Speaker 1 (12:58):
Come on, you still got good needs?
Speaker 6 (13:03):
Yes, yes, I.
Speaker 1 (13:05):
Said, she still got good knees. Y'all. See how she
just stepped up there.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
She could still who because these things.
Speaker 1 (13:09):
Don't do those things.
Speaker 2 (13:12):
Thank you for joining us, like you know what I
love though, when when you talked about it, when we
come to final fours and things like this is just
the sisterhood and being able to reminisce because when we play,
Oh my god, I absolutely could not stand.
Speaker 1 (13:30):
I know, yi was a problem.
Speaker 3 (13:34):
Yes was a problem.
Speaker 2 (13:36):
And it was one of those things where Coach Chanson
was like, Swooper, I'm sorry are you today?
Speaker 3 (13:43):
I got I got some questions too, But but before
I even get all of that, like, I need you
to tell me. You you to tell me what is
one of your worst memories of her? And by worst,
I mean like she got on my nerves under my skin, like, oh,
this was the one.
Speaker 2 (14:00):
She always got on my But but I loved it
because like she was a competitor. So I knew that
every time we matched up with the Sting it was
going to be a battle.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
I got on your note.
Speaker 1 (14:14):
Yes you did, Yes you did.
Speaker 3 (14:16):
I'm gonna tell you why no, Because there was one
move okay, Like it.
Speaker 2 (14:21):
Was one move that she always did, and I was
first of all, every time I thought I had her right,
I was like, okay, coach.
Speaker 1 (14:27):
I'm gonna lock her down right.
Speaker 2 (14:29):
So every time, like I would be in front of her,
and so it was like the Euro before people talked
about it being the Euro yep, but she would come
down the lane or on the wing. It didn't really
matter if she had this little but it wasn't just
your on score she had the whole on take it
over her head and step around you and get to
(14:50):
and either reverse.
Speaker 7 (14:51):
And I was like, damn she respectful if you don't,
and I would, Oh, I found the you know whatever
a few days just because I was so mad that
she had that moment.
Speaker 1 (15:03):
I couldn't learn it.
Speaker 6 (15:04):
Listen, every time you touched the ball, my coach was
yelling at me, stinting, don't let her touch the ball.
Speaker 5 (15:13):
So I'm looking at the coach said how do.
Speaker 4 (15:15):
I keep up from touching the ball.
Speaker 5 (15:18):
And then when she gets it her first step, I
got to catch up after the first step.
Speaker 1 (15:23):
That was my thing.
Speaker 4 (15:24):
I was a problem for you.
Speaker 6 (15:26):
Yes, no, you made me play defense every time we played.
Speaker 1 (15:29):
And she was strong.
Speaker 4 (15:31):
Yes she was.
Speaker 2 (15:32):
She was strong, quick, deceivingly quicker than people's arts and
then transition her and don further.
Speaker 1 (15:40):
I said, no, no, she played.
Speaker 3 (15:41):
That's that's what I was a problem. That's what I
was just getting ready to get at.
Speaker 6 (15:45):
But I was strong because I had to hold you.
I had to defend you. So I got strong because
I knew that when we play Houston, I had to
I had to defend Sheryl Man.
Speaker 4 (15:59):
I didn't sleep the.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
Night before Wow.
Speaker 4 (16:03):
I got up early.
Speaker 6 (16:04):
The next morning, I showed up to shoot around two
hours early.
Speaker 4 (16:09):
I got in the cold tub.
Speaker 6 (16:12):
I was like, coach, I'm just prepaying for Cheryl said,
what was the most difficult part of Shirl's game that
you had to?
Speaker 5 (16:19):
Like?
Speaker 4 (16:19):
Really?
Speaker 5 (16:20):
I mean everything, the shooting, the first step, the rebounding,
the defense.
Speaker 4 (16:28):
She defended me. I defended her. She'd get one, and Cheryl,
I'm coming back to get you.
Speaker 6 (16:33):
I go back there and she said, okay, standing here,
I come again and comes again.
Speaker 4 (16:38):
Do you went back and forth, back and forth. So
everything about Cheryl I just hated.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Oh my god, I love this. I love this now.
When you when you look at the players that are
playing today, though, like, do you see any players that
are playing in today's game that kind of remind you?
And I ain't saying remind you of Cheryl, but I
mean just like you know, like Dan, it's probably the
irritating hell to have to guard her, Like, is there
any players like that?
Speaker 4 (17:04):
Malaysia? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (17:07):
When I tell you, and I'm sorry, I forgot a
name for Texas.
Speaker 3 (17:11):
Oh Madison Booker or worry Her Booker.
Speaker 4 (17:13):
Yeah, are you at Madison Bookers? Those two it's just
impossible to stop them.
Speaker 5 (17:18):
I mean they just when they get the ball, that's it. Yeah,
And you're at that mercy just like she. Just like
Cheryl me, I was at her mercy only try to do.
Speaker 4 (17:29):
What I could do.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
I know that's right.
Speaker 2 (17:31):
But you know the thing with Malaysia is she's one
of those players that you have to live with the
things that she's not gonna do well, right because Malaysia
is Malaysia.
Speaker 1 (17:43):
But the things that she does really well and great,
Like it's.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
Impossible to defend her now some of the things when
she comes out and she just just i'm gonna say,
just throwing it up there, because then they really a shot.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
And then you look on.
Speaker 2 (17:57):
The sideline and you see Dawn Ye get that look
out her face like.
Speaker 1 (18:04):
That you just did.
Speaker 2 (18:05):
Yeah, but you have to live with the bad things
she's gonna do, because she's gonna do a lot more
good things.
Speaker 4 (18:10):
Yeah. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:13):
Well, you know what, both of you guys in different times,
had an opportunity to play with Don Staley, right, you
with the Charlotte Steve you also played with her with
USA basketball. Just looking at where she is and having
known her at that time, just I don't want to
say how proud of you are, but just what is
it about Down? And you're not even surprised that she's
(18:33):
in the situation. She ain't right now, Dawn is just.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Dawn and playing with Down what's hilarious.
Speaker 4 (18:40):
It was fun. She is my hero.
Speaker 6 (18:44):
It's that simple. I look at her as my hero
because when we played together, I would have never thought
that she would I thought I knew that she would coach.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
But she's taking it to another level.
Speaker 6 (18:57):
And when you've taken to another level, it's it's it's
not easy.
Speaker 3 (19:02):
To just look at it as Don anymore.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
She's an evil to me.
Speaker 1 (19:07):
Don Staley has always been Don Stally.
Speaker 2 (19:10):
What I mean by that is from the time Don
started playing in the w to her coaching days at Temple, like.
Speaker 1 (19:18):
You always knew what you were going to get from.
Speaker 2 (19:21):
Her as a player, as a competitor, as a teammate,
and I've always had the respect of Don.
Speaker 1 (19:28):
Staley just being true to who she is.
Speaker 2 (19:32):
But what really sends out to me is when you
talk to her players, current former, how they all.
Speaker 1 (19:37):
Have great things to say about her.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
But what I love is how Don continues every single
day to uplift and courage and empower not just her team.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
But women in general.
Speaker 2 (19:51):
And Don is a sister of ours, but I'm a
Don Staley fan, and I got so much respect for
how much she's not only changed the South Carolina Game
Talks program, but Don Staley.
Speaker 1 (20:06):
Has changed the trajectory.
Speaker 2 (20:08):
Of where the women's college basketball game is going.
Speaker 3 (20:11):
Absolutely absolutely at One's women's sports is on a is
on a new level, and Don Staley has so much
to do with that from a coaching perspective, from the
being a trailblazer. You both trailblazers in the game. We
wouldn't have a WNBA if it weren't for players like
yourselves that really cave the way for us to be
(20:33):
You know, we wouldn't have an Angel Rees and a
kate La Clark and any we would have any of
those if not for all of you. And so we
thank you, We appreciate you. I have so many other
things that I would love to say and talk about,
but I know that we are on limited time regardless, though,
say thank you so much. Before we get out of
here really quick, can you let everybody know what it
(20:54):
is that you're doing now and tell them about your
training camp?
Speaker 4 (20:58):
Well, I am. I wanted to be Okay, I can't
hear you. I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
I wanted to be a coach, but in watching girls
basketball and women's basketball, I decided that I want to train.
Speaker 4 (21:12):
So I am a personal trainer. I travel.
Speaker 6 (21:15):
I go all over the all over the country, and
I travel groups of young girls because I've had a
lot of college coaches come to me and say, listen,
is this They're not getting the fundamentals. So in order
for us to keep the w n b A alive,
I'm gonna stick to the training so these young ladies
will be able to have the skill to play in
the w n b A one day.
Speaker 1 (21:36):
What ages do you try?
Speaker 6 (21:38):
I go from five to high school to college. Whoever
wants to train and get better call me stints traveling training.
Speaker 3 (21:48):
That I'm gonna wait.
Speaker 1 (21:54):
I'm gonna wait till that finished, because this is an
important question. Are you extensive?
Speaker 5 (22:02):
No?
Speaker 2 (22:02):
