Speaker 1 (00:06):
NFL Covers Zero with Matt Jones and Drew Franklin is
a production of the NFL and iHeart podcast. It's week
nine of NFL Cover zero, coming to you one day late,

(00:26):
So I'm sorry for all of you all that are
used to seeing this on your feet on Wednesdays. You
had to wait one more day. But you know what,
sometimes life gets in the way. But we are excited
to be here previewing everything you need to know about
the NFL season. Where it's midweek Thursday. Tonight there's a
football game. Drew, good to see. It's rainy and junkie

(00:48):
here in Kentucky, but getting ready for another big week.

Speaker 2 (00:51):
Yeah, rainy and junkie means a good reason to not
do anything but stay inside and watch more football.

Speaker 1 (00:56):
So we're around the rain.

Speaker 2 (00:57):
I got a nice fresh pot of chili ready for
the weekend. I'm ready to watch some of the big
games we have coming up.

Speaker 1 (01:03):
I unfortunately, as I talked about Sunday, I had a
back injury this weekend. So I watched the most football
I've ever watched, probably while I was also in pain.
It was a bad weekend to pick that, but you know,
backs aren't fun and it's getting better now, I'm ready.

(01:23):
I saw Tracy McGrady, the basketball player. He was doing
He was talking about how before every season he would
get an epidural is that the word? An epidural every
season so that he could play due to his back.
I thought that was something only pregnant women get. So
I was thinking, why not get an epidural for these

(01:45):
podcasts that I could get through the whole year without
having a back injury.

Speaker 2 (01:49):
Yeah, we sent Billy all over town get to any show.

Speaker 1 (01:52):
You know. I've dealt with the back stuff before too.
I don't have it now.

Speaker 2 (01:55):
I'm in a good place, but when it's at its worst,
I would rather have two broken arms than a bad back,
because it just completely takes you out of commission, gets
to where you can't even move. And I know you
were dealing with that the last few days.

Speaker 1 (02:07):
Yes, By the way, what is an epidural.

Speaker 2 (02:10):
It's like a thing that they shoot and then where
do they shoot it? I don't know, like the thigh.

Speaker 1 (02:18):
I'm always amazed at the words we use. Vinyl cord
like sports make use it.

Speaker 3 (02:23):
That's it, oh, Billy, But what does it do? Injection
near your spinal cord and what does it do. It's
a way to give you anesthesia for surgery or labor pain.

Speaker 1 (02:33):
But then it makes it to where I feel amazing. Yeah,
I believe. So it sounds like you really know, but
that was It's it's nice when you follow sports you
think you're a doctor, Like I like the ACL ligament
anterior appruciate ligment or what is it, melldial collateral limit ligament.
I don't know any other ligments in the body except

(02:55):
those two. I know reports, I know, but I know
it ACLS and I also know, Oh that hurt his achilles.
That's bad. Yeah, we don't want that.

Speaker 2 (03:03):
I remember there was an episode of this earlier this
season where some doctored you'd some big term and we
tried to figure out what it was on the air,
and then heard from some actual doctors who basically told
us we.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
Sounded like idiots. Lumbar Yeah, we lumbar support L four
L L four L. We were struggling through that a
little bit. Yeah. But the thing is, I feel like,
now that I'm a sports fan, I could I know
that I go to doctor Andrews for the a c
LS right in Burgleham. If you do not go to

(03:35):
doctor Andrews. You're settling for rank the most famous doctors.
Obviously Phil is first, Drey is higher there, oh Pepper,
but Andrews is up there with all of Let me
say Pepper is underrated, Okay, seuss Zavago for the for

(03:56):
you literary types, and then you're right. But in terms
of actual humans, h Andrews. I don't know how Birmingham
became the place and everybody goes to fix their knees.
I mean, there's nothing else on earth you'd go, I
need this fixed, barming Hams, but your knees and your ligaments,
that's where you go.

Speaker 2 (04:16):
And I feel like going to see doctor James Andrews
is a social status. Like most people don't name drop
their doctor before they're getting surgery. You just say, I'm
going to get surgery. But if you're going to doctor
James own doctor James Andrews, you've got to.

Speaker 1 (04:27):
Let people know where you're headed. Been alive for a
long time too, so shout out to doctor James Andrews.
I don't know if he wants to give me an epidural,
but I don't know if that's especially but if he does,
we'd be glad to do it. So we just got
our first set of podcast numbers for cover zero. So
like we got to see a month's worth of podcast views,

(04:49):
and it's amazing how many of you are listening, and
how many of you are listening from all over different
parts of the country. I mean, we were looking at
the markets. Obviously, the top two markets tend to be
here in Kentucky where Drew and I are, but they're listening,
people listening from all over. One of the higher markets
is Cleveland. I'm gonna thank Spider and First Lady for that.

(05:10):
From the first episode.

Speaker 2 (05:12):
Oh definitely, I would say they were a big reason
for a bump with the Dog Pound.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
But I do want to see we didn't have a
lot on the Northeast. I feel like the Northeast has
not embraced us yet, and so we have to figure
out what can we do to get the New York, Boston, Philly.
How do we get those people involved? What is it?
What is it? We're gonna don't.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I don't know, because you work even though we're Southern,
you and I big New York City people.

Speaker 1 (05:39):
I love New York City.

Speaker 2 (05:41):
I'm proudly in the South, but I can blend in
up there too if I need to, So I feel
like we should have friends there already. Yeah, if you're
out there and you're just trying to figure us out
what we can blend in the north through a table
if I need to, that's exactly.

Speaker 1 (05:54):
That's exactly. Hey, you know I can do I can
do the that's where you're going here. Yeah, I'm walking here.
So see that should work. This should be what they
want or they just turned it off. Now we do
have We do have an announcement to make though. In
two weeks. We are going to be going to Buffalo.
That's right, We're going to be going to Buffalo. We're

(06:16):
going to go to our first Bill's game. It is
Bills and Colts. Is that right now? Bill's Bucks? Yeah,
Bill's Bucks close enough, very similar. The Bills and the
Tampa Bay are going to play in Buffalo. We're going
to be going. We want to have the whole Bill's experience.
I'm going to be doing my ESPN show from there.
We're going to be doing the Cover zero podcast. So

(06:39):
here's the first thing. We need a bar in Buffalo
that is close to the stadium. That's going to be
like our home base. So we need to know who
to contact. Who do we contact to figure out where
we should go in Buffalo to do the whole Bill's thing.
So I have a text machine. Here's the number. It
is seven seven to two seven seven four five two

(07:02):
five four. Those of you listening seven seven two seven
seven four five five four. And if you're in Buffalo
or you have Buffalo connections, where should we go to
the show? Are you excited to go to your first
Buffalo Bills Home? Get? Absolutely?

Speaker 2 (07:14):
I mean, just a couple weeks ago we ranked bucket
list NFL trips that was number one. Also, you know
me pretty well. I like to Tellgate I feel like
me and the Mafia might get along a little bit.
I'll have to remember that we're doing a podcast later
that night, so I don't join the mafia too much
and leave you and Billy here to talk to each other.
I'll have to keep myself on a pitch count. But

(07:36):
I'm excited just to get up there and experience what
is the best fan base in the NFL.

Speaker 1 (07:41):
Now we're going to drive, which is what most people
like to do when they go to Buffalo. They like
to drive. Now you're probably sitting there going Okay, Matt,
that sounds fun. Driving to Buffalo sounds like it would
be the best thing in the world. But you're then thinking,
how do we get there? Can I give you a
few of the cities we're going to go through on
our trip to Buffalo? Please. We are going to go
through Columbus, Okay, that's gonna be good. Then we're going

(08:03):
to go up and we're going to go right through Akron. Hey, Lebron,
what's up? Then Cleveland? You probably thought, when am I
going to go to Erie, Pennsylvania? The answer is now?
And then all the way up on NIMI to Buffalo,
right past Lakawana and Dunkirk. Are you excited about this?

Speaker 2 (08:23):
Of course I'm most excited about Cleveland, since we just
saw that we're somewhat known in Cleveland. Maybe our newlywed couple,
we could stop buy and say gift.

Speaker 1 (08:35):
But no, I love the road trips.

Speaker 2 (08:36):
Our longtime listeners know this is something we do a
lot following Kentucky basketball, and now we get to do
another one. But it's with the NFL to go see
the Bills play football, So I could not be more excited.
And of course it's Billy's Bucks, so you know there's
the billy aspect too.

Speaker 1 (08:50):
I'm happy for him, Billy excited to see the Bucks
in person. I am.

Speaker 3 (08:54):
I'm just a little worried that Bill's mafia might throw
me through a table or like put ketchup and mustard
on me.

Speaker 1 (08:59):
They do a lot of crazy. Well, we're gonna ask you.
We're gonna ask them to do that. We're requesting it.
But there for people in Buffalo, we will be heading
your way. This will be the first time I have
been to Buffalo. I've been once and we just drove
through on the way to Niagara Falls. Will also be
not only we're also gonna be very close to Canada.
You know, Hamilton, Ontario is just right across the way. Obviously,

(09:24):
Mario doesn't have a passport, so we'll have to leave
him in Buffalo, but you and I could go to
Canada where we.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Can back up on the way through. You know our
boss Roger, he's big on growing the game internationally. I
think if Cover zero just rides across the border, are
you allowed to call him Roger? I've me and mister
Goodell slip. I don't know that you've met that slipped.
That slipped, mister Goadell apologized looking forward to meeting you,
but you know, this is a good way for Cover
zero to go international, even if we just go have
a lunch across the border.

Speaker 1 (09:49):
So Buffalo, We're going to see you here soon and
we look forward to it. We'll talk more about that
in the coming week. So here it is the day
before Halloween, uh, and we have some news items I
want to start with, but let's start for a second
with Halloween themed. There are two Halloween stories I think
are very important. One is Drake May. Okay, you know

(10:13):
I've expressed my feelings about sort of rooting against Drake May.
I'm about to stop because I'm starting to get people
saying that they think it's unbecoming how much I dislike
Drake May when I can point to no reason for
doing it. You don't want to just be a hater
to hate. Yes, that's unbecoming, but I want to give
him some credit for something. So I'm actually going to
say this is this makes me pro Drake May on TikTok.

(10:36):
You know, people are always doing things, dude, constantly. Nobody's
ever just on TikTok going like I'm good, that's enough,
Like everybody's got an opinion, or they want to do
a dance, or they're putting the voice to things. Well,
there's a woman on TikTok uh. She was very attractive,
so I think her thing is like, hey, I'm attractive

(10:58):
and watch this. I'm gonna dance. Now, watch this trick,
watch the strap. She just comes on like, look here
we go, right, just make sure you watch for a
minute to give my money. That's right. So she does
this thing. She comes on there and she says, I
want to dress up for Halloween and whatever. The top
comment is that's what I'm gonna dress up for Halloween,

(11:20):
which I think is just asking for people to just
write like bad things.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
No one's gonna put an actual Halloween costumes has their vote.

Speaker 1 (11:29):
Except one person, Drake May. Drake May goes in her
replies and writes, Drake May, what do you want me
to be for alleyen he official. Drake May writes, Drake May, well,
I think Patriots fans get excited about it. Next thing
you know, it has five hundred thousand likes on her

(11:50):
thing for her to dress as Drake May. So she
has to dress as Drake May. She has promised I've
been following this saga somehow that she will be dressed
as Drake May. I believe tomorrow because tomorrow's Halloween, do
you like? And then apparently he's been doing it in
other ones, just going around. He's going around to people
when they say what should that be for Halloween and

(12:11):
saying Drake May. I think I kind of love that.
Drew this idea of a man of the people just
telling people to dress as Drake May.

Speaker 2 (12:19):
He's just going around like signing Instagrams or TikTok's guest
book here, just writing his name on people's videos and picture.

Speaker 1 (12:25):
There's a common denominator to his, which I think most
of them are fairly attractive women, Like he didn't say
he didn't tell Billy to dresses Drake May. But still
just the idea of people are trying to guess, just
keep saying yourself over and over.

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yeah, just that simple interaction for him takes him one second,
just starts a huge trend. Patriots fans latch on. And
now this, this woman who probably was gonna address is
something completely different.

Speaker 1 (12:47):
Drake Drake May was high on her list. Now she's
got she has to be Drake May. Now you were
saying that he actually dressed up for the game last week?
Is that right? I saw a TikTok video.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
They had a Halloween party at Gillette Stadium and Drake
May showed up dressed up as a Pokemon Charis ared
what's that?

Speaker 2 (13:06):
Uh?

Speaker 1 (13:06):
It's a creature, fake creature Pokemon you've ever heard of?

Speaker 3 (13:10):
Are you?

Speaker 1 (13:10):
And are you in the Pokemon? Not really? Okay, you
pronounced that very well for somebody that I wouldn't. It's
called Charlie mar Charizard and he showed up as the
what's the charis are? What does he do?

Speaker 3 (13:22):
He flies in the air and spits fire.

Speaker 1 (13:24):
Okay, so clearly you know Pokemon like that's not just
something you would guess. Do you want to admit that
you do know Pokemon?

Speaker 3 (13:30):
I mean, I mean as a kid, but I mean
it's been a while, but I did enjoy Drake May
dressing up as Charizard.

Speaker 1 (13:35):
I didn't get to see that. I think he should
have dressed up as that girl as the one who
had posted the original video. I think it's only fair.

Speaker 2 (13:43):
I I do enjoy getting the Halloween costumes from NFL players.
They all seem to really get into it. The Lions
had a big Halloween party.

Speaker 1 (13:50):
Okay, so let's talk about that one. Or actually, wait
a minute, is that Jamiir GiB Yeah, he has my
costume of the Year. I didn't know. I didn't know
that was going to be on your list. Costume of
the Year. Jamiir Gibbs of the Lions dressed up as
Jeff Hardy. First of all, great reference. I mean, honestly,
I know he still wrestles, but Jeff Hardy hasn't really
been in the national consciousness in twenty five years. Been

(14:13):
a long time, Been a long time. Jamiir Gibbs was
what five had to have been a child, and he
and his girlfriend dress up as Jeff Hardy and she
dresses up as leader.

Speaker 2 (14:22):
Yeah, great costume. I had no idea you had even
seen this. I was going to bring it up because
there's been several The whole Lions team did well. I
think Jared Goff was maybe some kind of chef. They
all did great, good job Lions, but Jamir Gibbs was
just a whole other level from having leda you know,
he's already got kind of the long hair, so he
could kind of pull it over his face like the
Hardy's due. He's doing the finger guns by far, biggest

(14:46):
costume winner that I've seen.

Speaker 1 (14:47):
Yeah, I the best. How I wish I was better
at Halloween costumes because I think it's a great idea,
the best set of Halloween costumes I've seen, and I
really want to recommend this to people. There's an old
folks home in Minnesota. Okay, what are you laughing me?
I just don't know where this is going. There's no
folks home in Minnesota. And they had all of the

(15:07):
people in the old folks home dress as a Halloween costume.
And they are great because they're all plays on words. So,
for instance, this old man stands up. He has on
a belt and around his belt are just watches. He
has like fifty watches around his waist, and they say,

(15:28):
what's your costume, mister, blah blah blah, and he goes
a waste of time that I'm all about the puns.
And then they had like a woman who was probably
in her eighties, and she had two empty bottles of
wine taped to her chest and they said, what are you, Agnes?

(15:51):
And she's like a wine rack. Okay, it's two for too.
I like all of these are wonderful.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
Yeah, there's something about it being a senior citizen place,
so like you can't.

Speaker 1 (16:04):
Like Billy can't go around as a wine wrack. That
would not man. But these old people. I actually think
it works. Really I love it. And you know, big
on the word play.

Speaker 2 (16:16):
So if you're working that into your costume and you're
elderly making some jokes like that, I'm all in sad Am.
I actually taking away my word from Gibbs and giving
it to that. Look up the old folks nursing home Mario.
Why don't you see if you can find on your
phone the name of it, because I want to give
him a shout out. They have.

Speaker 1 (16:33):
They have like fifty of these videos and each one
of them is really funny. One more for we go on.

Speaker 2 (16:37):
Miles Garrett is like the NFL's King of Halloween. I
don't know what he has up his sleeve this year,
but every year he goes way over the top, like
freaks people out walking into the stadium.

Speaker 1 (16:47):
He's so good at it. Well, but it'll be over
when he gets to Halloween this Sunday. I get to
do it last week. I don't know.

Speaker 2 (16:54):
We just thrown off that. I haven't seen one of him.
Maybe they're just having their party like the Lions did.

Speaker 1 (16:58):
Yeah, maybe so. All right, so let's go through some
news you mentioned the Lions. Aiden Hutchinson signed what was it,
one hundred and forty million dollar extension. He'll become the
second highest paid defensive lineman in the NFL. Most of
us you know obviously he's a great player. We all
watched his rookie year on Hard Knocks. His family was

(17:18):
a big part of that. Lions makes perfect sense to invest.
Do you enjoy watching Aiden Hutchinson play? I do?

Speaker 2 (17:26):
But it was part of this a media contract for
his family in the crowd and for all these crowd
shots we get, is that.

Speaker 1 (17:31):
Going part of the bill, some of the TV rights
he may lead the lead the NFL and family shots.

Speaker 2 (17:36):
But as we learned on Hard Knocks, it is a
cool story him going to stay back for the hometown team.
And now it gets even sweeter for him with you know,
nearly two hundred million dollars to his name coming.

Speaker 1 (17:46):
Is there a is he's got to be the biggest player.
That's like from the hometown of where they are, right, Yeah, the.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
Bengals have had a few Ohio guys that have been big,
but right now Hutchinson. I mean you see they post
the pictures of him and dressed up as a little
Lion when he's a little kid. His whole family loves
the Lions.

Speaker 1 (18:04):
Do you find that sweet with And.

Speaker 2 (18:06):
There's something about it being Detroit, like if it was
a kid in Boston wearing his Patriots shirt when he's little. Okay,
sure everybody he'd like the Patriots den. But he went
through the Lions down years and then got to the
Lions and is why they're good.

Speaker 1 (18:18):
So yes, I enjoy Hutchinson's story. One hundred and forty
one million dollars guaranteed. It's the most guaranteed for a
non quarterback of all time. Yeah, I would love to
have some of that money if he wants to share.
Carson Wentz is now out for the rest of the year.
He's gonna have season injury ending surgery to repair his
left shoulders a shoulder. Excuse me, doesn't have two of

(18:41):
them over there?

Speaker 2 (18:41):
Well, it was broken into Thursday night. He might have
two left shoulders after that game.

Speaker 1 (18:45):
He may. And he went He went to the media
today and took up for his franchise, saying no one
forced him to play, and he doesn't want any any
arguments to the contrary. Now, personally, I'd never heard anyone
making the arguments that they were forcing him to play.
So there's a little bit of the methinks thou do

(19:06):
off pros test too much, Carson. But what do you
make of that?

Speaker 2 (19:11):
It did look like he didn't need to be in
the game last week. I don't know whose fault that was.
Another very thin Ofvel McCarthy. They named another guy with
a clipboard in his hand that I'd never heard of him.
Could have been someone in the Halloween costume for all
I knew. So it was hard to watch Carson Wentz,
But I like that he comes out and like now
I was out there trying to gut it out. It
wasn't like they're forcing me making me do it, but
it was. Anyone watching that game knows he didn't need

(19:34):
to be in because it showed his face looked like
he was in tears out there trying to take snaps.

Speaker 1 (19:38):
It was weird because the announcers and the camera crew
spent a long time on him. If you're Carson Wentz,
I understand why you're trying to make it happen because
you've got this rookie behind you as soon as he
comes back. I mean, in some ways in that final game,
you might be playing for a contract next year, right
for even maybe even another team, So I get it.

(19:59):
But it did look like he was in a lot
of pain.

Speaker 2 (20:01):
Yeah, and he's played a lot of football. He's getting old.
He might have some of the back problems you're going
going through right now, so it probably been hurt even more.

Speaker 1 (20:09):
Every time there's somebody like in pain, you don't have
to say that it's me. I'm just you know, you
don't need me to be the monument of the face
of old.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
But I'm trying to compare you to to a current
NFL players. You're going through the similar guys.

Speaker 1 (20:23):
Yeah, you're.

Speaker 2 (20:23):
I mean, just as he toughed out that Thursday night game,
you're tough and now covers zero right now.

Speaker 1 (20:27):
I'm looking at you just as I looked at Once's
eyes last Thursday, and you're exc No one's making you
do this. Let's make that clear. Roger is mister. I
got a call from Roger. He's like, are you getting
up or not.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
He's gonna be so proud when we go into Canada,
he is, and we leave Mario at the border because
he doesn't have a pass We.

Speaker 1 (20:47):
Won't get a video in Canada because it's twenty twenty five.
You need a passport. It expired.

Speaker 3 (20:53):
I don't have money either, Mario, so oh wait, mant
you can't go either, not to Canada.

Speaker 2 (20:57):
You can get a passport card, which is faster for Canada.

Speaker 1 (21:00):
So let me just say, well, no, you can't. Now,
government shut down. That's true. I backtrack that. So here's
the thing. Just no, there's gonna be a night out
in Hamilton, Ohio when Drew and I are turning it
up a notch and Matt's seen me in Canada. Well,
in London, Ontario, Drew fell in love. Did there's a.

Speaker 2 (21:21):
World where I never met you too. I'm raising kids
in Ontario right now.

Speaker 1 (21:26):
There's a world these keys following the Hamilton Argonauts.

Speaker 2 (21:31):
On my syrup farm. It's just living the good life.

Speaker 1 (21:35):
Syrup farm. You and you you grow syrup, Yep, I'm
growing it.

Speaker 2 (21:38):
You and Hobby were about to drive off and You're like,
are you coming? I was like, oh no, guys, leave.

Speaker 1 (21:42):
Me, leave me in London, Ontario. Well, uh, you need
both of you get your passports. Forty one year old

(22:03):
tight end Mercedes lewis Is has signed what was is it?
A practice squad? Deal?

Speaker 3 (22:09):
Practice squad with the Denver Broncos.

Speaker 1 (22:11):
With the Denver Broncos, he will become the oldest if
he plays the oldest tight end to play of all time?
What would you what do you make of that forty
one years old? Can you imagine being a tight end?

Speaker 2 (22:24):
There's a lot of miles on that Mercedes that's coming
in through a lot of money. I'm telling you we
just this happened with Graham just a week or two ago.
People saw that Flacco Aaron Rodgers game and they all thought, honey,
where's my cleats? Get my cleats out of the garage
and going back to work. And we're starting to see
some of the older guys come back to give it
another shot.

Speaker 1 (22:42):
Do you like this trend of Jerryatric players joining the NFL?
I mean, do you think we're gonna be where's this going?
We're gonna have a running back who's sixty one. I'm
here for it.

Speaker 2 (22:53):
Just set it up. I mean, we have a Golden
Bachelor on ABC. Now the old people are back. They're
winning Halloween costume contests. They're they're they're taking over the
NFL again. The stock is up on people that are
the high numbers.

Speaker 1 (23:07):
I don't watch The Golden Bachelor. Is it good?

Speaker 2 (23:09):
I catch a few episodes of the first season and
immediately turned it off.

Speaker 1 (23:13):
I did see there was an argument this year that
one woman there the other women were very unhappy that
she wasn't there for the right reason. I always love
that phrase in The Bachelor, What is the right reason?
They can't be to find love? No one ever done. No,
they're all there, no one ever gets married. They're there
for Instagram followers, and they just need to say it.
Like I don't watch Love is Blind, but I heard

(23:34):
that this year when the couples matched up, they all
just looked at each other and ran away. Sounds like
good TV. They all just looked at each other and
were like, no, you're idiots. So I don't know what
that's to do with Mercedes lost.

Speaker 2 (23:46):
Well, old people are back, is what we're saying. Mercedesis
and Lewis is on the list.

Speaker 1 (23:50):
It also gives us a chance, though, to talk about
the stat that we like the most, which is there
Mercedes Lewis could become the third player of all time
to get a reception in the NFL over forty. The
other two are Jerry Rice and Tom Brady. That's kind
of cool, isn't it. It's very cool. I'd forgotten. That's

(24:13):
just that's that.

Speaker 2 (24:13):
Actually, you got me thinking, Mercedes Lewis, he's almost old
enough for the Titans. Try to sign him and try
to give him another year because we are the retirement
home and I'm surprised he's not coming back.

Speaker 1 (24:23):
Do you remember when Tom Brady caught the pass? I mean,
I guess it was with Tampa Bay.

Speaker 3 (24:28):
Do you remember the scenario had to be a Philly
special type of play. I just not the one comes
to mind now.

Speaker 1 (24:34):
He's got to be a bold offensive coordinator to tell
Tom Brady's gonna have to run down field. They tell
you he crossed the middle, unlike a putting him out there.
It was well, good luck to Mercedes Lewis, and I
hope he I hope he makes it now tonight. By
the time you listen to this game may even be over.

(24:55):
Lamar taking the field for the first time two and
six versus two and six. By the time you listen this,
we may know the result of this game. But are
you excited to have Lamar back on the field.

Speaker 2 (25:06):
Yes, the Ravens heard me to watch. I've never liked him.
Took Henry They've knocked Titans out of the playoffs before.
But it's been very disappointing just as a fan of
the NFL to not have the Ravens be good this season,
especially after that Week one game that was such a thriller.
I thought we were on a crash course with the Ravens,
Bills and Chiefs doing what they normally do fighting for

(25:26):
the AFC spot, and they've been so disappointing.

Speaker 1 (25:29):
So I hope Lamar gets them back on track.

Speaker 2 (25:31):
Their schedule sets up where they can get back in
the mix, and I just as a fan of the NFL,
they need to be in the conversation.

Speaker 1 (25:38):
And he's just such a different He's just such a
different athlete than everyone else in terms of there are
very few people in sports that you say, well, there's
no one like him, and I'm not sure there's ever
going to be anyone like him. Again, I mean in basketball,
we're seeing this a little bit with Wimby right now,
that we're seeing this like thing that we may never

(26:02):
see a thing like that again. Now, whether or not
ends up being an all time great or whatever, we
have to wait and see. But I kind of don't
think there's ever gonna be another person like Lamar. I mean,
this new generation of mobile quarterbacks, they tend to be
built now, like Josh Allen or Drake may or even
a Lesmers and Caleb Williams. You're not. I don't think

(26:24):
you're ever gonna see an athlete like Lamar who can
also play quarterback like that. Yep.

Speaker 2 (26:31):
And a lot of it, you know, is design run
down and it's all part of the plan. Lamar will
just tuck it in embarrassed guys. I think back to
some of his college highlights, hurtling people. He hadn't done
the hurtling as much in the NFL, but he's still
when he gets in space, he can just do things
that no one else can. And the criticism, of course
years ago, he's shut them up, but saying he couldn't pass,
now he can pass through.

Speaker 1 (26:51):
That's all. He's one one. The only analogy to him
in the history of the league is Michael Vick, and
he's a better athlete than Michael Vick. I mean, he's
a lot better of an athlete. So I want to
see him because I don't think they are that many
years left of him being able to play like that,
and maybe he develops into something else. Michael Vick did

(27:12):
a little bit towards the end, but the way he's
playing right now, Drew, I only think we have another
couple of years of it, so I want to make
sure we get every game we can. Yeah, and I
hope he's back back.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
Before the hamstring, he was having a good year, something
like twelve tds, one interception, a huge first game. You
get an opponent that last week got their win, but
this is still one that you should handle. If you
don't win this one, that's the problem. And it's also
for Lamar's comeback. He's kind of a Miami Yuay. I
don't know if he's Miami specific, but he's from South Florida.
A little bit of a homecoming for him. So it'll

(27:43):
be a lot of os on this game. I'm looking
forward to watching.

Speaker 1 (27:45):
Well, you also have a sense of even though they're
two and six and that record is bad, they're not
as far away from potentially having a shot in that
division as you would think. I mean, you see her
and look at it, they're excuse me, two and five,
they're two games back of Pittsburgh, right, I mean that's

(28:05):
not that much. And they still have to play them,
what twice? Yes, they still play them twice, and then
the Steelers have the Colts and the Chargers coming over
the next few weeks. They still have to play the Bills.
So if they can not drop any more games, the
Ravens still had a shot to win this division even
at two and five. Are they doing?

Speaker 2 (28:24):
I saw some updated odds today, they're like forty six
percent to win the division and then they're the favorite
well Steelers, Like Steelers were forty seven, they were forty six.
Then the other two split whatever's left there interesting and
then the same for making the playoffs. So we know
if they can just get in, as long as they're healthy,
they'll they've been disappointing the last month, there'll be a
big threat.

Speaker 1 (28:44):
Now you were telling me, uh, Billy Michael Carter the second,
what is this story about him and the Jets. Yeah,
so there was a trade recently.

Speaker 3 (28:53):
The Eagles are trading for the Jets cornerback Michael Carter
to second Michael Carter to second the second Okay.

Speaker 1 (29:01):
So what it's a lot of baseball, haven't you? Laty
a second?

Speaker 3 (29:05):
So New York will get it John Michi the third
and a twenty twenty seven sixth round pick, while Philly
will get Carter in a twenty twenty seventh twenty twenty
seventh round pick.

Speaker 1 (29:14):
But I thought it was enter traded in the second
for the third.

Speaker 3 (29:18):
Yes, all right, that's correct, and a sixth and a seventh,
sixth and a seven. But this is how badly Michael
Carter the second wanted to join the Eagles. Sources say
that he agreed to delete the five million dollars guarantee
for injury in his twenty twenty sixth contract to complete
the trade to the Eagles.

Speaker 1 (29:36):
So he had a provision in his contract that said,
if I get injured, you'll still give me five million. Correct,
And he so wanted out of New York that he
just dropped that.

Speaker 3 (29:46):
He gave it up five million dollars for the trade
to go through.

Speaker 1 (29:50):
Wow, I mean that, you know the chances of him
getting hurt, that's real. Five million dollars to get off
a team, that's that's that's kind of an amazing thing
for a guy to do. Isn't it.

Speaker 2 (30:05):
Yeah, And you know, if I'm in his shoes, probably
not gonna do it. But at the same time, if
there's a situation you would do it. You're leaving the
Jets for the reigning Super Bowl champ who could be
in there again?

Speaker 1 (30:18):
Have you ever had a job that you would have
given up money to get away from? I mean, five
million dollars is a different kind of money. But let's
say if you're at a job you were wedded to
that you're like, I've got to get out of here. No,
my job's mostly always been most of you, And I
can't say it because it's mostly been with me. Well,
I mean obviously I have to. Hey, you know, I

(30:40):
don't think you could say that right now. I want
to say it. Yeah. Really, my other jobs are all
part time jobs. If I wanted to leave, I just left.
But that's what's interesting about sports is you can get
I mean virtually every job in society you can leave.
But in sports, these guys, if they want to pursue
their craft, they get picked by a team and then

(31:02):
they have to be there, right, They have to. They
can't get out out of it. There are very few
parts of life I can't think of another part of
life where that would be the case.

Speaker 2 (31:13):
And I like his fans, it's just normal. We're like, oh,
that goes. Oh he's gone from Denver to Buffalo.

Speaker 1 (31:18):
Who cares.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
But then it's like, not to get deep, but you
got kids in school, maybe your whole famili's moved there.
It's like, what are the world where they're like, you
have to pick up your family and move them right now,
and you have to you might have to be in
a different country.

Speaker 1 (31:31):
I mean not with the NFL, but in other sports,
you know. I think about like Ace Bailey who went
to like Rutgers. I think he grew up in New York,
and they're like, all right, you have to go to
Salt Lake City, Utah, and you have to do it
right now. The plane is right there by the way.
You're going to live there for the next seven years

(31:52):
and you're going to like it. And then he goes,
wait a minute, I don't know if I want to
do that, and everybody goes, you're so selfish. How couldn't
you not want to be in Utah? What a great
opportunity to play on the worst team in the league,

(32:12):
in the worst city in the country, no offense. Utah,
that's it is weird. Sports are the only thing that
does that. And you have no choice. And you have
no choice, Carr, you can go to China. Those are
your two choices. What do you want, Ace, I don't
care about your two year old's community that he's built
and all the roots your family's planted. You can get
to Denver right now. Oh, you've been in New York

(32:33):
for two hundred years. Eat it. Fans are like, yeah,
just they gotta go. Provo is nice this time of year. Ace, So,
I mean, I think there was This was a chance
for Michael Carter the second to take some ownership, and
he says, I'm willing to give up the five million
to get out of it.

Speaker 2 (32:51):
When I heard this happened, you know, I thought that's crazy.
But the team's involved. Makes sense. If you're leaving, if
this is a lateral move and how competitive the team is,
I don't think you can do it. But for a
chance to get a ring that can be invaluables.

Speaker 1 (33:06):
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones in the news he did a
press conference. By the way, that sentence is the start
of about thirty percent of all NFL news Dallas Cowboys
owner Jerry Jones does a press conference insert next or
local Dallas interview. He does those two on the radio.
I mean, you get a lot of NFL news. Just

(33:28):
by the start of that sentence, he was asked about
he hasn't been around the facility, I guess in a
little bit. And he was asked about it, and he said,
I have one hundred billion dollar oil project. I don't
have time to worry about the Cowboys defense. What do
you think about that sentence?

Speaker 2 (33:48):
For God, that's been so hands on forever and literally
had a pretty big news story involving his defense before
the season. It is interesting to me that suddenly then
have time when things are looking so good, because normally
Jerry is hands on everything, his fingerprints are on everything.

Speaker 1 (34:04):
Counterpoint one hundred billion dollars oil projects. That's big. That's
a big oil project.

Speaker 2 (34:10):
And he's on the new landman. Jerry's got a little camp.

Speaker 1 (34:14):
I like season one.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
I haven't caught I don't know if season two started yet,
but I enjoyed it.

Speaker 1 (34:20):
Does it? I heard it makes oil seem glamorous? This messic?
Can it is? I mean, what you have in your mind.

Speaker 2 (34:26):
Of Texas oil tycoons. That's that's pretty much what it is.
They wearing big hats, big hats, okay, walking around, you know,
got their big boots on and their buckles, just talking
about billions.

Speaker 1 (34:35):
And then they just like put things in the ground. Yeah,
drill here, see what happens. Land's dry. They say that
a lot.

Speaker 2 (34:43):
Well in the uh in the Netflix Cowboys documentaries, you
watch that, it's a big part about how Jerry took
a gamble on a little spot, wasn't sure if there
was gonna be some oil, and then boom, that's when
he struck it. But when he made the deal, he
took a big chance and now he's got.

Speaker 1 (34:57):
They they don't have ways to just see if there's
oil under it, Like what's the gamble. I feel like
there's got to be something that can underground and say
whether there's oil now.

Speaker 2 (35:09):
Probably, but in the time they were playing up and
maybe it was just some theatrics and telling Jerry's story.

Speaker 1 (35:13):
Jerry just had a shovel out there and he was like,
this feels like the right place.

Speaker 2 (35:17):
He did Yeah, he did it bare handed. Well, that's
how we got the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 1 (35:21):
You know, I've been very critical of Jerry over the
years for sort of meddling. I don't understand why people
would think he's the one, Like, do they think that
the cowboys are not able to stop people because Jerry's
not there?

Speaker 2 (35:33):
This is actually what a lot of his critics have wanted.

Speaker 1 (35:35):
They've always been like, Jerry, go found a hobby. You
don't have to do everything.

Speaker 2 (35:38):
He literally has found something else. Yeah, and now he's
getting criticized.

Speaker 1 (35:42):
There was a sense in which he's kind of damned
if he does, damned if he doesn't. You're either there
too much or now you're there too little. I think
they just can't quit Jerry either way. Right, if I was.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Jerry, I would say, would you look at dak right
now when you all told me not to resign him
years ago? Would you look at George Pickens just only
the muddy fence?

Speaker 4 (35:59):
Yeah?

Speaker 1 (36:14):
Well, speed of resigning. You got an email from the
Tennessee Titans. Are you Oh? Yes? Are you being kicked
out of the fandom? Is that correct?

Speaker 2 (36:24):
I think they broke up with me. Let me pull
up word for words, so I don't get this wrong,
But so I've.

Speaker 1 (36:29):
Been our our team's allowed to break up with you.
As I don't here. It is on October twenty sixth.
This was four days ago. Just to set it up.

Speaker 2 (36:37):
Like many fans, I joined my team's list serve you know,
there's contests. I'll play the little trivia game for a
free quarter, zip all the promos.

Speaker 1 (36:45):
You know.

Speaker 2 (36:45):
You know how you get any email blitz. I didn't
know I was supposed to interact with them. So I
get an email four days ago and the subject line
says we're going to miss you from the Tennessee Titans,
and it says we've reached out a few times, we
haven't heard back, so we're calling the hell Mary. This
will be our last email. If you miss us as

(37:05):
much as we'll miss you, you can always come back anytime.
But I'm thinking I'm still here, I still love you,
and I'm getting dumped.

Speaker 1 (37:11):
So the Titans are saying, if you don't talk to
our email account, then we're not gonna stop talking to you.

Speaker 2 (37:19):
And it's got this like flashy hail Mary that scrolls by.
It's their Hell Mary attempt to get me to how
so do I reply?

Speaker 4 (37:26):
So?

Speaker 1 (37:26):
What do they What do they get for breaking up
with you? I'm not sure and I thought I what
were you supposed like, what what do they want you
to do right now? Ask them how they're how they're going?
Hey you up, Titans?

Speaker 2 (37:40):
I reply like, hey, I'm here, like I don't want
to break up. Let's work this out. Is this a break?
Is there someone else who I'll see emailing over there?

Speaker 1 (37:49):
Let's work this out. We could we we can come
to a common ground.

Speaker 2 (37:53):
But I gotta admit getting an email from my favorite
team and the subject just says we're gonna miss you.
I was like, what happened?

Speaker 1 (37:59):
Like, well, maybe it's like a reverse psychology, because now
maybe you reply hope you don't break up? So have
you replied? No? I should thought I.

Speaker 2 (38:09):
Gave this four days a good wait waiting period. We're
obviously in a in a point of turmoil in our relationship.

Speaker 1 (38:15):
If you want to keep the Titans waiting, you don't
want to come off as eager.

Speaker 2 (38:19):
No, yeah, because they're in the low spot right now,
like they need to be recruiting me, not pushing me away.

Speaker 1 (38:25):
You think they're asking, like they're they're sort of, you know,
asking for affirmation. I think it's okay, I still love you,
even though your coach was terrible.

Speaker 2 (38:37):
They also called me about season tickets the day they
fired Mike Rabel, and I was like not, no, Like,
this is not the day to be calling you.

Speaker 1 (38:44):
So we're still going through things. I'll reply to this,
but it felt weird getting dumped by Will you just
reply and just say miss you? I miss us. I'm
gonna say I missed us, I missed us. Do that
and then let me know what the response came.

Speaker 3 (38:57):
Well, this must be a trend. Did you guys see
what happened in Cincinnati with the season ticket holder?

Speaker 4 (39:02):
No?

Speaker 1 (39:02):
I did not.

Speaker 3 (39:03):
So a season ticket holder went to cancel their season
tickets after the loss to the Jets and a person
reportedly the person on the phone said, do you want
cheap tickets or do you want us to pay for
Jamar Chase and t Higgins.

Speaker 1 (39:15):
Oh wow, so you're saying that the persons on your
tickets got a little sass.

Speaker 3 (39:19):
This is according to a Reddit post that somebody made
sold their season tickets, but reported by bleacher Report.

Speaker 1 (39:26):
So reported that there was a Reddit poster reported that
it happened, reported that there was a Reddit post. I
didn't report to tell me that, I mean, if it
was on Reddit. Uh, okay, Well I don't know if
I believe this, but I don't. I have to say
I don't mind the Bengals being sassy, Like, you don't
get it both ways. Do you want t Higgins and

(39:48):
Jamar Chase or do you want two dollars notchos at
the game? You can't have it both ways.

Speaker 2 (39:55):
Kind of saw with the ticket person, I mean, pr
we could work on that, maybe the delivering the approach,
but they have a point. It's Kyle with Jerry, people
were like, we gotta pay Higgins, we gotta pay Chase,
we gotta pay Burrow. Okay, we're paying them. Little help
from you all, but.

Speaker 1 (40:09):
Also maybe not the week to do it after they
just blew that game at home to the Jets that
had not won a game yet. Maybe you spend a
week being a little less sassy. Yeah, you could show
some sympathy, like you stayed out all night, drank with
your friends, passed out, didn't come home in the morning.
Maybe that's not the time you start demanding that your
wife make you lunch. Yeah, like you gotta pick and

(40:33):
choose your time.

Speaker 2 (40:33):
I know your spots ticket office. I think should have
read the room a little bit better here coming off
that loss.

Speaker 1 (40:38):
But it is. You don't hear a sassy move like
that coming from the from you. I'm going to Bengals
Bears game this weekend. Oh yeah, I am like shocked
how expensive those tickets are for Bengals Bears. You wouldn't
think so, right, I mean, it's not a rivalry, neither
team is particularly great, but they are expensive.

Speaker 2 (41:00):
And it's not like an away team coming in this
far away. You think local Bears fans probably can get
to shoot.

Speaker 1 (41:06):
Cargo, right, yeah, but like very very expensive tickets to
go see the Bears ingles. But I think it'll be fun.
Ready for some some Caleb Williams, I'm ready for some
drunk Bengals fans. I mean for people who don't know
the drunkest fan base on Earth or the Cincinnati Bengals.
Like people say the Bills fans are crazier, and I'll
believe that, but no one is drunker and more belligerent

(41:30):
than the Bengals fans. I mean, the Bengals fans fight
each other for the chance to fight other people. I
wonder it's like a warm up event when they're.

Speaker 2 (41:41):
A video earlier this year, maybe last season of a
big brawl and like everyone had on a Joe Burrow jersey.

Speaker 1 (41:45):
He was like Joe Burrow, beating of Joe Burrow, beating
up Joe Burrow, who was just beingles fans. It is,
there's a little bit like Escape from New York when
you go to the Bengals game. I mean, now, I
think it makes it fun. I think it makes it
a hard environment to play in. But I don't think
the Bengals get enough credit, get enough credit for how
drunk their fan base is. And a lot of times
at one o'clock they play at one o'clock a lot

(42:07):
they'll get up very early. I mean I hosted my
Matt Myron ESPN show once from a bar in Cincinnati
before the game, and at ten thirty in the morning,
I watched the manager have to keep two people from
making out on the floor at ten thirty on a
Sunday morning. They weren't even drinking. Can you imagine the

(42:29):
excitement you have to be rolling around the floor kissing
a person at ten thirty in the morning in public
on a Sunday.

Speaker 2 (42:36):
I was there, and I remember a lot of people
trying to get our young innocent Mario to drink fireball
at ten in the morning.

Speaker 1 (42:41):
Too.

Speaker 2 (42:41):
The Vingles fans are getting after it.

Speaker 1 (42:43):
The Bengals fans do get after it all right. The
trade deadline is November fourth. Lots, you know, the NFL
trade deadline a little bit different than baseball. In the NBA,
you don't necessarily see as much action anything you're expecting
to see this this week.

Speaker 2 (43:01):
A couple of players are watching. It looks like they've
come out and said they're not going to move much.
But we said this the other day. I want to
see Miles Garrett play for a good football that's not
gonna happen.

Speaker 1 (43:10):
It's not gonna happen. Max Crosby seems like somebody that
can m could end up somewhere else.

Speaker 2 (43:16):
Chris Olave and New Orleans is having a huge year
for a crappy team. That's someone that can move, but
they've also said probably not gonna deal him. But they're
a team like Dallas I think really needs to go
out and find some defensive help because they're wasting such
a good offense. Or Chargers still need help on that
offensive line. If there's anything out there they can get.

Speaker 1 (43:34):
Usually at this time you might see a team that
thinks they can salvage a playoff run get a quarterback.
But I think that was the Bengals and they already
did Flaccos, so I don't I don't think there's gonna
be anybody else.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
BREECEE Hall's names popped up a lot of.

Speaker 1 (43:46):
Those other two. I think. I think Bres Saw and
Max Crosby are the two to watch for for a
variety of reasons. I think both of them would make
sense to go. Uh, Breece Hall would be one. You know,
if you're a team that just is not able to
run the ball. He's being wasted with the Jets because
they're not, so that would make some sense.

Speaker 2 (44:06):
And he's been fun on a crappy team, even through
the touchdown passing that come back last week. It's a
guy that's having a great year and it's just been
completely wasted on. Now, what's a one win team?

Speaker 1 (44:16):
Have you been enjoying how much the Jets have been
celebrating their win. This has got to be one of
the more jovial wins in a long time.

Speaker 2 (44:22):
And I don't know about you, but it seems like
all most people know like one Jets fan in their
life and they've just always been miserable. Mine's our friend
Robert who listens to KSR, he just lives and dies
with the Jets, and yet constantly, yeah, we can't help
We'll be happy for a Jets fan getting that win
last week.

Speaker 1 (44:40):
Yeah. Now, the playoff picture right now in the AFC
Indianapolis is seven to one. Right now, they would be
the one seed. The two seed would now be the
Patriots and the Broncos the three seed. Is that not
amazing that the one seed could be the Colts, two Patriots,
three Broncos when you could have made a strong argument

(45:03):
none of those three would have even been in the
playoffs at the beginning of the year.

Speaker 2 (45:06):
It's it's nuts to not just immediately go Kansas City, Baltimore, Buffalo,
Like that's felt like what we were heading to when
the season started. I knew the Broncos would take a
step forward this year. I didn't expect them to be
in the mix like they are, same with the Patriots.
So yeah, that's definitely been surprising.

Speaker 1 (45:23):
I mean, right now there's actually a gap in the playoffs,
like the top seven in the AFC. I mean they're
not set, but they're getting to be set. It's looking
like New England, Buffalo Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Denver, and the Chargers.
Those seem to be the seven unless I don't know.

(45:43):
I mean, there's the Chiefs, I excuse me, Charges and
the Chiefs. So I'm not sure who it is that
gonna that's gonna take one of those spots.

Speaker 2 (45:51):
I saw the Colts today. It was one of those
updated playoff pictures. The Colts have a twenty five percent
chance to make the Super Bowl. Even I have a
hard time believing those good at advance. But just to
mend just seeing that Billy right down, no chance of
them making no chance, zero percent, zero percent, Okay, Jon

(46:12):
and Taylor just keeps getting three to zero percent.

Speaker 1 (46:14):
There's zero percent chance there are I like the Colts.
They're a great story, but there are four teams in
the AFC better at least. But they just keep winning,
I know, and that's nice, But I agree that you
put them in the Super Bowl. Kansas City's coming. Did
you watch the game by nightmin domination? That should have

(46:35):
been forty two to seven.

Speaker 2 (46:37):
I just mean the fact that we're even saying Indianapolis,
Colts and Super Bowl within the same paragraph each other,
with how we thought this season would go is insane.

Speaker 1 (46:47):
Didn't you get really mad at a call in the
Chiefs game? What were you mad about? Oh?

Speaker 3 (46:51):
It was just roughing the passer and they And why
did you have a.

Speaker 1 (46:54):
Thing against Mahomes? You don't like him? Is it like Anti?
You don't like the swift? He's fine, he's fine. It's
just you know, why do people not like Patrick? What
did Patrick Mahomes do to anybody? Why? Why are people? Well,
people are too angry at him, and I don't understand why.

Speaker 3 (47:10):
Well, it's the winning. It's the same reason why Tom
Brady wasn't liked.

Speaker 1 (47:13):
But Tom Brady was handsome, and we should hate people
that handsome can't have everything. Patrick Mahomes is chubby, right,
He's like Kermitt. He talks like Kermit to me. He's
like the epitome of Yeah he's athletic, but he's not
that athletic. So I think shouldn't we embrace his sort

(47:35):
of normalcy. I know his wife whatever, I know his
brother whatever. But I feel like he's fine.

Speaker 3 (47:42):
I think most people do. I was just complaining about
the refs and the rough.

Speaker 1 (47:45):
Feel like he gets a better whistle. Do you think
that's true? Yeah? Okay, So you are, he's the face
of the league. I mean, of course, so you are
complaining that he gets a better whistle.

Speaker 3 (47:55):
Yeah, yeah, I mean I don't hate the guy, but yeah,
let's call it like it is.

Speaker 2 (47:58):
Do you think he gets a better whistle. I think
he gets a good whistle. The Tushbush gets the best whistle.

Speaker 1 (48:03):
Yeah. If we're going to talk about bad whistles, it's
not the Chiefs. Nobody seems Nobody seems to be mad
at Jalen Hurt. No, I don't.

Speaker 2 (48:10):
I know there are a lot of fans that hate
the Chiefs and always you know the memes where the
refs hugging Travis Kelsey, we all, we all see him.

Speaker 1 (48:17):
I don't think it's that extreme. Do you think it'll
still be like that when Travis retires at the end
of the year, or do you think when Travis and
Taylor exit a little bit of the Chiefs hate will
go away.

Speaker 2 (48:32):
I see him lingering in her, lingering around just the
Chiefs Kansas City in general. So I don't think it'll
go away.

Speaker 1 (48:38):
Yeah, I mean Travis will be on one of the
shows or something, so he'll still be around.

Speaker 2 (48:43):
Yeah, But I do think the Chiefs hates a little
over the top. And when Travis is gone Worthy and
Rice and some.

Speaker 1 (48:49):
Of these guys, it's going to be a second generation. Yeah,
they're not going anywhere. I mean, this is going to
be Mahomes is Brady again. You have Mahomes generation one
or ecuse me, Brady generation one and then Brady generation two.
Mahomes is going to be the same. I mean, Mahomes
is gonna have He had his first run and now
it's it's Jordan with the bulls. Right, you got your

(49:12):
you got your your first group with with you know what,
co Cooke and and them, and then you got the
Dennis Rodman part at the end. You're gonna have the
same thing.

Speaker 2 (49:20):
And my Homes will just be the steady force between
the two generations of chiefs. But it's not It is
a little unfair how they reloaded in the draft.

Speaker 1 (49:27):
All right, off, it is now time to preview the
games for this week, which means it is the Victory
Bundle presented by Lipperty Liberty Mutual. Uh. The Victory Bundle
is your way to start your quote at Libertymutual dot com.
So here are the games uh this week? And you

(49:47):
tell me we've got to pick three. Usually I pick one,
you pick one. I'm gonna let Billy pick one. This week,
I'll go first and sit here and look at what
is available. Forty nine ers are at the Giants. I
tend to think people overreact to weeks and then they
screwed up the next week. Forty five and three Giants
are two and six. They're only a two and a

(50:09):
half point favorite even on the road. I'm going to
take the forty nine ers as part of my victory
bundle to get back on track in New York. I
think the Giants are headed for a steady decline here
and Brian Dable will be fired relatively soon. So give
me the forty nine ers. What about you?

Speaker 2 (50:24):
I love that pick, especially with the spread. That's one
of my favorite picks. We don't know how the Giants
to look without Cam Scattaboo. He was scoring touchdown after
touchdown before the injury, so I love that one. You
just mentioned how people have an unfair hatred for Patrick Mahomes,
So I'm gonna bring up your unfair hatred for Drake
May who hosts the Atlanta Falcons, who have not who

(50:45):
have not looked good this year. Yeah, Bjeon had a
bad game a week ago. I'm going to keep riding
the Verbel Drake may train straight into another win. Will
that be six in a row? I think six in
a row. So I love the Patriots at home.

Speaker 1 (50:57):
Five and a half. I mean, I get that. I
think that's actually a pretty good pick. There's a chance
that could end up in a blowout. Falkins have been
very disappointing. So we've got the Patriots. I throw the
forty nine ers and Billie, you give me the final one.

Speaker 3 (51:11):
Yeah, so Carson Wentz will not be playing. JJ McCarthy
is trash.

Speaker 1 (51:15):
I love the Lions.

Speaker 3 (51:16):
Oh whoa who trash?

Speaker 1 (51:18):
He's played two games? Yeah, just not it. I think
they sold Donald Way two games. How do you know
he's not it. I've seen enough. He's been like a
hospital minutes. Maybe in one of those games he played
really really well, not good enough.

Speaker 3 (51:33):
So that's why we're going to be taking the Lions
minus eight and a half to beat the Minnesota Vikings.

Speaker 1 (51:38):
You're covering all eight and a half of that because
is your quote, JJ McCarthy is trash? Correct, So when
he won a national championship in Michigan, doesn't matter a
system player at that point. Wow, strong opinions. All right,
So that god enough to make your survivor. We're talking.
We're talking forty nine ers, forty nine Ers, Patriots and Vikings.

(52:02):
That is your victory bundle provided by Liberty Mutuals. Starts
your quote at libertymutual dot com. All right, so let's

(52:23):
look at a couple of these big games this week
you got. Let's start with Chiefs Bills. It's the game
of the week. Most years, it's the game of the year,
probably will be the highest rated game of the season
on television. Chiefs are two and a half point favorite
at Buffalo. A little bit surprising to me. This is
always one of the best ones of the year.

Speaker 2 (52:43):
I can't wait to watch this game. I mean, this
is one of the ones when they announced the schedule
with their big fancy announcements. Stud now you get eyes
wide circle that one on your schedule. I get why Kansas,
why Kansas City is the favorite, but I'm certainly not
touching that in Buffet.

Speaker 1 (52:58):
What's the reason. I mean, the Bills just won forty
to nine. The game is in Buffalo. I mean, you say,
you say, And usually when they play in the regular season,
it doesn't Buffalo win and then the Chiefs winning the playoffs.

Speaker 2 (53:12):
Yeah, it's happening in Kansas City a lot too. I
guess Buffalo has the two losses that are kind of fresh.
And I think we all saw the Chiefs just turn
a corner a few weeks ago, especially Adam Worthy and
nol Rice that offense. They just look like, especially offensively,
that they can do whatever they want to do.

Speaker 3 (53:28):
Well.

Speaker 1 (53:28):
I think the Chiefs are really good, maybe exceptionally good.
But I think you I still I would bet the Bills. Here.
You're telling me I get the Bills at home in
a year where I think they leave those two weeks aside,
are still the better team.

Speaker 4 (53:47):
Oh?

Speaker 2 (53:48):
I was just making the case for why Chiefs the favorite.
I would not bet it. If I would bet it. Yeah,
I know, I'm saying I kind of get why the
Chiefs are at two and a half. Is this time
I'm not I wouldn't do it?

Speaker 1 (53:58):
Is this the marquee matchup of the NFL?

Speaker 4 (54:01):
Now?

Speaker 1 (54:02):
Like, if you were to say to the NFL were
to get to decide we're going to put one game
on display for the entire league to watch, they would
pick this one.

Speaker 2 (54:10):
Right, they'd have to just you know, you got Lamar also,
But Mahomes, Josh Allen, those two against really that trio
of quarterbacks. When they play each other, it's just a
heavyweight fight and the game seem.

Speaker 1 (54:22):
To always come down to the very end. And this
is part of what's great about the NFL is the
two biggest stars in the NFL are Mahomes and Allen.
You could even make a case that if you're throwing Kelsey,
the three biggest stars of the NFL are in this game.
They are two of the most successful franchises of the

(54:44):
last four or five years, and they're in two secondary markets.
I mean, that's what the NFL gets really no other
league gets, is the ability to have games in Kansas
City and Buffalo have this level of like specialness, and.

Speaker 2 (55:01):
Both have a little bit of bandwagon to them.

Speaker 1 (55:05):
Chiefs are bill It's almost.

Speaker 2 (55:06):
Like people just love the Bills, like even if it's
not your team, you kinda's.

Speaker 1 (55:13):
In the last few years, no.

Speaker 2 (55:14):
I mean people they're like a darling to the NFL lately,
where the Chiefs have become a big bandwagon team because
they're winning. So when those two teams are on TV,
they both naturally have people for different reasons.

Speaker 1 (55:24):
When you tune in, you think the Chiefs are the
evil team. The Bills not quite the Patriots level, but
there are plenty of Chiefs fans in the last five years.
They ain't from Kansas City, they've become that team. And
then the Bills are just kind of people love rooting
for the Bills mafia.

Speaker 2 (55:38):
So when you put them both on your TV, it's
just one that's gonna get a big audience.

Speaker 1 (55:42):
Can I make a controversial take. I think there's been
too little Taylor Swift on TV. Oh no, I mean
I find myself always wondering if she's at the game,
And now they've clearly, like have a decision. They're not
gonna show her unless Travis scores a touchdowns. So like

(56:02):
the last game against the Commanders, he scored a touchdown
and they showed her, and I found myself going, oh,
she's here. I feel like Billy I should have known that.
I feel like they why wouldn't you show her? Just
so that you little beta male fans get upset because
they put a put her on TV.

Speaker 3 (56:22):
Uh, it was a little Nutch last year. I'm fine with,
but we've gone too far in the other direction. Yeah,
but we know she's locked in watching every second.

Speaker 1 (56:31):
But I mean they'll They'll show Spike Lee at every
Knicks game right, probably multiple times. Why can't I see?
Why can't we see Taylor Swift? Yeah? Why not? Maybe
we need some more So that may be controversial, but
I would say more Taylor Swift done game.

Speaker 2 (56:45):
I don't disagree. Like they show the Jets sky with
the firemanhead every game.

Speaker 1 (56:50):
No one's like, get him off my TV. Yeah they don't.

Speaker 2 (56:52):
The Titans have this big masskot guy the ground. They
show him every game. No one's like, get the big
Titan off my TV. It's just they gotta show somebody.
They show the most popular person in the building.

Speaker 1 (57:01):
They always show those people in Jacksonville, like eating their
hogies in pool.

Speaker 2 (57:06):
Is amoy booing the Hutchinson family.

Speaker 1 (57:09):
No me, I think we get a little little much Hutchinson.

Speaker 2 (57:13):
Well, they did bring out the big They have the
big curtain for Taylor now in the back, the big
black tarp where you can't even see her walking by.

Speaker 1 (57:19):
I didn't know that they do. Yeah, I think that
might have been.

Speaker 2 (57:21):
She had some issues with the stalker at the beginning
the year might have been related to that, but it is.
They're hiding her a little more at the stadium than
they were last season.

Speaker 1 (57:29):
Well, but I mean she I get that she is
a mega celebrity. I just think I shouldn't have to
wonder if she's at the game. I think they should
tell me, Like I think if she goes to Buffalo,
that's kind of an interesting idea, and she better tailgate. Yeah,
and unlike Billy, she could probably get into Canada because
she has a passport. Yeah I can't right now. What

(57:52):
are you planning on fixing that? So you know it's
probably gonna take a while now because once the government reopens,
it is probably a backlog of people trying to get
a pass Yeah.

Speaker 3 (58:00):
I didn't didn't plan on the government being shut down
for over months.

Speaker 1 (58:03):
We've talked about it for about six months.

Speaker 2 (58:05):
Do you already have one that you need to renew
or you don't have one at a hole?

Speaker 3 (58:08):
Yeah, so it's expired now, Okay?

Speaker 1 (58:10):
That helps you though, yeah, because then you don't have
to go through quiet. You can even do it at
home now.

Speaker 2 (58:14):
I took my passport photo myself this year. Well I
hear like, yeah, I did it right, in my kitchen.

Speaker 3 (58:19):
I hear you can get it done if you need
it done, Like you just got to drive to the
right place, Troyan.

Speaker 1 (58:23):
What does that mean you can get it done if
you needed Well, I've heard like like you're in the
Maffia you can like you got a congressman you can call.
There's like a place you can go and you can
get a passport. Yeah, it's like there's like eight of
them in the country. One's in Detroit. I've been to it, Okay,
I had to do that. Once you drive it's in Detroit,
you sit there. You have to sit there like all day.

(58:44):
You wait, they call you, then they tell you to
come back. You wait, and then they do it. It's
like an eight hour day though. And they got one
in Chicago, one in Detroit, and I think one in Atlanta.
And you have to make appointments and it's not necessarily
always easy to get one.

Speaker 3 (58:59):
Yeah, well, I'll get on it then, or at least
make the drive because you're not gonna do I got
a honeymoon coming up.

Speaker 1 (59:04):
Where is it? We don't know yet, but i'd like to.
It's gonna be a myrtle beach. If you don't get
your passport. Do Joey Gallenberg B they made a song.

Speaker 2 (59:12):
He's got a guy like I just got to go
run this place.

Speaker 1 (59:15):
Yeah he just meat this dude. Yeah he just caught
I can get a passport.

Speaker 3 (59:18):
You need a passport, I'll get you a passport.

Speaker 1 (59:20):
Might not be American, but the Colts and the Steelers
Aaron Rodgers looked human last week. Did do you have
the Colts coming back and they could go to eight
and one if they went in Pittsburgh Or is this
the start of the reality check?

Speaker 2 (59:35):
Nope, You're not gonna catch you saying a bad word
about the Colts. I have completely shut up about them.
Shut up about them weeks ago. I think they're for
real and they just keep on winning. And I fully
expect Sunday night, when we're sitting here doing the show
at midnight, we're gonna be talking about Jonathan Taylor having
a three touchdown game again.

Speaker 1 (59:54):
Hmm yeah, I mean the cults are three and a
half point favorite. I kind of feel like this is
one of those games. This is like, forget about a
Eon Rodgers. It's a Mike Tomlin game home. Everybody thinks
they're going to lose. He reminds you that I don't
finish below five hundred, do you? Why do you all
forget that every single year. I think they get this

(01:00:17):
one Drew, and I think they I think they end
up winning out right. I would bet money line Pittsburgh here.

Speaker 2 (01:00:23):
I will say, if I were gambling on this one
three and a half, I'd probably take the home team.
But you're just not gonna see me counting out the Colts.
They burned me at the beginning of the year when
I said they were going to be absolutely awful, and
they have been such a Colts I'm a Titans guy.
He beat us thirteen times in a row. I mean,
wouldn't that be the Leason win Indianapolis. No, because I've
done I'm done getting burned by them this season. I'm

(01:00:45):
just going to embrace that the Colts are good, and
that's just the reality I have to live with.

Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
He's still beaten down. He's starting to root for the
rival of his tamer.

Speaker 2 (01:00:52):
No, I'm not rooting for them, I'm just acknowledging how
good they are.

Speaker 1 (01:00:56):
I think this whole weekend is about Chiefs and Bills
and getting yourself ready for that one and whether or
not Taylor's going to be there. That's that's what I'm
going to be doing.

Speaker 2 (01:01:03):
Yeah, we're blessed with the Lamar come back tonight and
prompt Chiefs Bills in the four point thirty on Sunday.
Other than that, there's some pretty wide spreads here on
the board.

Speaker 1 (01:01:13):
Yeah, all right, it's time for our finishing up with
our Survivor League pick and our Touchdown League. Now I
get the first pick this week on the Survivor League. Drew,
of course, is out. We have left him out of
this segment since Week four when he's so rudely lost.
So it's down to me and Billy, and see, you

(01:01:35):
look at the board to what you could choose the
biggest spread this week. The two biggest spreads. You got
the Rams are a fourteen and a half point favorite
on the Saints. You've got the Packers are a thirteen
and a half point favorite with the Panthers. And then
you got to go down a little bit and you
get the Chargers or nine and a half with the Titans.

(01:01:56):
So I go first. I can't pick the Packers because
they've already picked them, So I can't pick Packers. Patriots, Colts,
Broncos Ravens lines. Ravens only have two wins. I got
one of them and got them. That was a pretty
good one for me. I don't want to pick the
Chargers going into Nashville.

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
We're just gonna beat up my Titans, aren't you.

Speaker 1 (01:02:17):
I mean, I don't want to, but I don't know
how I can't. You all are awful. We can't cover.
Is there any way that you all could win that
game and not me?

Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
I don't think was it like ten point spread can't
cover that?

Speaker 1 (01:02:34):
They cannot cover a spread? And the other option for
me is the Rams and the Saints. But you know,
tis name the starter and they've been competitive. So I'm
sitting here going back and forth because my guess is
Billy's gonna pick what I don't pick. So I've got
to either go Chargers or I've got to go.

Speaker 2 (01:02:58):
Rams, Packers, Panthers. Is you know I can't I can't
pay you. That's you said you can't do that because
I've already used them. You know what, I gonna take
the Rams. They're at home. They're not gonna lose at home.
They're gonna take the Rams to beat the Saints.

Speaker 1 (01:03:12):
I could see a world where justin Herbert doesn't play great,
Cam war gets hot and Titans pull it off. Thank
you for your optimism. And so, Billy, you can't pick
the Jaguars, Cardinals, Bills, Colts, Chiefs, Patriots, So I guess
you will probably be choosing. You could pick the Packers
or you could pick, uh this the Charges against the Titans.

(01:03:33):
Who you want?

Speaker 3 (01:03:33):
Yeah, I'm going to continue to follow the Titans around
and pick the Chargers in this one. It is just
that type of year. I saw they give Callahan and
his staff all extensions.

Speaker 1 (01:03:42):
Over the offseason and they've already fired them. So give
me the Chargers. You're not worried it's on the road.
I usually I am, but not in this case.

Speaker 2 (01:03:49):
No, Okay, you know you have to play through those
home boos as they boo their own team.

Speaker 1 (01:03:55):
Yeah, so you have the Chargers, you know you have.
We both have still a lot of options. We've done good.
I mean I still have not picked the Chiefs. You
still have not picked Neither of us have picked the Eagles,
so still have a lot of options. So Ram, so
you're I'm going with the Rams. You're going with the Chargers,

(01:04:15):
and that is our survivor. League picks. I'll just be
able here watching guys. Looks like your fund sport, your plan.
Who would you pick what was left? I guess you
would pick the Packers right against the Packers. Yeah, why
do you like that one Panthers kind of show last week?
They're not real that and the Packers are have been
very quiet. They're just five. I mean, they would be

(01:04:36):
the one seed right now in the NFC. I don't
think a lot of people focus on that.

Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Have we even said their name today? I went out
the only ones I mean that. I think that's consistent
across the NFL right now. Listen to shows and stuff.
Packers are just winning and not a big part of
the talk right now, but I mean they will be
as well. You think know that they would be the
one seed right now? People that tie sticking out helps
them five. I mean they should have won that game, but.

Speaker 1 (01:05:00):
Probably assume it's the Eagles at this point. But you're
right green Bay right now. Number one. You don't go
to Green Bay in January unless you're Jimmy Garoppolo. You
cannot get that done. A droid playoff winning green Bay.
He's done that twice. It's right, there's only like, so
I even done three times ever and twice it was
Jimmy Garoppolo.

Speaker 2 (01:05:18):
See we talked earlier about was the Flacco if he
had won again, just go keep signing him to beat
the Packers. Same with Jimmy G.

Speaker 1 (01:05:24):
With Jimmy G, go win one, go get him. That's
all right? Well, thank you all very much for listening.
I enjoy the games. We will be back Sunday night.
Why are you looking at me? G our touchdowns? Hodey?
You don't want me guess my favorite part of betting
and watching football a touchdowns scores? Got you got me? Uh?
You got me a little excited?

Speaker 4 (01:05:44):
Right?

Speaker 1 (01:05:44):
Well, I can't find my sheet now, but all right,
there we go. So touchdown parlay. Sorry about that, I
forgot Uh right now I have I got I won
last week. I have three, Billy has three, Drew only
has one. The good thing for Drew, since he's been
so bad at this, is that he gets to pick
first this week. So Drew, you can I picked Jamar, Chase,

(01:06:07):
Nico Collins, Najoku, Jalen Hurt, Saquan or Ceedee Lamb. Who
would you like?

Speaker 4 (01:06:14):
Uh?

Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Well, obviously I'm gonna go with a Charger. Now they're
running back sol shaky. The situation is shaky. I'm gonna
go with a guy we named earlier as our Halloween
contest winner. I haven't used Jamiir Gibbs yet. They played
the Vikings, who I just learned moments ago have a
trash quarterback according to Billy, So the Lions will have
the ball a lot. And I say Gibbs, Fonzie and

(01:06:37):
some So you're going Jamar Gibbs, Jeff Hardy, I'll call
him this week.

Speaker 1 (01:06:40):
So you're going to running back. So that means you, Billy,
have to either pick a wide receiver, tight end or
a quarterback. You have well, you can't pick Scataboo anyway.
But so you've had Caleb Williams, you've had Jackson Dart,
and you've had McCaffrey. So who else would you like? Yeah,
I don't want to pick a quarterback. I'll let you
do that, Matt.

Speaker 3 (01:07:00):
So I like picking the quarter I am gonna go
Chase Brown running back for Cincinnati. You'll get to watch
it up close and personal. I think they're starting to
get back on track a little bit with the running game.
Give me a Chase Brown touchdown.

Speaker 1 (01:07:11):
You really pick the most random people. You picked Chase Brown,
all the people in the NFL. You're like, I want
to put on my money on Chase Brown.

Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
Well, it worked with Dart and Scataboo, and we're just
gooding that is true.

Speaker 1 (01:07:23):
The two most random picks you've picked have hit. I
said that means I got to pick a quarterback, and
I got to pick a quarterback to run in. I
have now, just for the record, picked three quarterbacks. So
I've had Lamar, I've had Daniel Jones, and I've had
Jayalen Hurt. So I'm sitting here looking. You know, I
like to pick teams that I know will score a

(01:07:44):
lot of points. And this week, you know, I don't
think Matthew Stafford's going to score. I like score running touchdown.
I don't really think hmm, well wait a minute, but
I've already picked Lamar.

Speaker 3 (01:07:59):
J. J.

Speaker 1 (01:08:00):
McCarthy. Do it. Don't do that, don't don't you.

Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
Know what.

Speaker 1 (01:08:06):
I'm gonna go ahead and pick Josh Allen. Even though
it's against the Chiefs. I think that'll be a high
scoring game. To last week, It's probably gonna be in
the thirties for both teams, and the fact is because
they play so fast paced, a lot of possessions, a
lot of chances to score. Give me Josh Allen to
get one. It seems like he always wants to get
one against the Chiefs.

Speaker 2 (01:08:27):
Say that it's you know, football is a team sport.
There's a little one on one Allen Mahomes and he's
gonna want to find the end zones as much as
he can.

Speaker 1 (01:08:34):
I don't know what the numbers would be in terms
of the odds you could get, but I gotta think
a Josh Allen, Chase Brown. Who you picked? Drew uh
Gibbs and Jim Mark Jamir Gibbs. Oh that's two running backs.
Did I screw it up? Oh you deceiver? Yeah you
went running backs? Sorry all right, Well see we're just
summing the entire thing over because if you go quarterback,

(01:08:58):
Matt can now go receipt You're sorry, you already screwed
it up. Now you can't pick a quar you gotta
pick a receiver.

Speaker 3 (01:09:04):
That's all right, I got one ready to go. Should
pick a charging and we go to the Titans game
once again, Little Ladd mcconche there you go. Give me
little lad.

Speaker 2 (01:09:11):
To get into the nisode almost said Lad for my pick,
you're picking who little Lad?

Speaker 1 (01:09:17):
Ladd McConkie, the Georgia Bulldog receiver.

Speaker 3 (01:09:19):
He's in a second year, slow start to the year,
but he's starting to pick up.

Speaker 1 (01:09:23):
Quentin Johnston isn't getting catch up. I cannot find my sheet,
all right, So you're so you're picking Ladd McCaughey.

Speaker 3 (01:09:28):
Yeah, right, and Chase Brown's my extra picking first.

Speaker 1 (01:09:32):
I could not have done this in a more disorganized
we can hear you. I'm gonna have to write Ladd
mconkye all right, so now even better, Odd's probably Jamiir Gibbs,
Ladd mcconkee, Josh Allen.

Speaker 2 (01:09:46):
Ladd has three touchdowns this year, all in the last
four weeks.

Speaker 1 (01:09:49):
There you go, Billy done. Thank you, folks very much
for listening. We will be back Sunday night, which will
be after the Seahawks Commander's game. We'll see you later.

Speaker 4 (01:09:59):

Ruthie's Table 4

Ruthie's Table 4

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
