NFL Cover Zero: Super Bowl Plans and NFL Week 8!

Matt Jones and Drew Franklin begin with the Sports Equinox coming on Monday picking a matchup from each league!  Matt watched the Lions MNF win with his parents and enjoyed the fresh perspective on the game.  How will losing Mike Evans to injury affect the Bucs?  A look at the MVP odds shocks Matt because one player isn't leading the odds. Matt and Drew are both excited about the Super Bowl Halftime Show. 

The Pro Bowl will be part of Super Week and Matt would love to take part in it.  The Jets are still deciding on a QB for NFL Week 8. The Commanders have a tough matchup with the Chiefs on MNF.

The Ravens are making some changes as they sit at 1-5.  Is there an issue with the turf In Pittsburgh as the Steelers host the Packers? Matt has no issue with Shedeur Sanders not getting reps as a backup QB with Dillon Gabriel starting.   Matt and Drew pick their three favorite matchups in Week 8 and look at the rest of the matchups! in Kentucky. Drew is wearing his green, I've got on blue,
and you know, sitting here looking at the slate of
games coming this week. Huge spreads, But that doesn't mean
there's not a lot to talk about.

Yeah, any day we get to watch the NFL is
a great Sunday. But you're right, this week good for
you all that are still in the survivor league pool.
Because most of these spreads are as about as big
as you'll see it.

You should be able to survive in the in the
survivor leagues. I'm you know, we're about to hit the
sports equinox this weekend. Sports equinox. I believe this Sunday
it will be the only day of the year, or
excuse me, be a Monday. It's gonna be Monday, the
only day of the year where all four major sports

will be playing at the same time. Are you excited

like watching games with my parents. First of all, we
have long conversations about who's playing, and at least with Larry,

I have to remind him throughout the game who's playing.
So I said, Lions are playing the Bucks and both
of my parents said, where are those places? And I
had to say, well, it's Detroit and Tampa Bay. And
then Larry said, I went to Detroit in nineteen sixty six.

(05:03):
And I said, so, does that mean you're for Detroit?
And said not necessary, still weighing it out, let me
see the defense. We never got a pick though throughout
the game. So he went to Detroit in nineteen sixty six,
But that didn't mean he was going to commit to him.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
But what you did Monday Night's example of how family fun.
You don't have to know the rosters.

Speaker 4 (05:23):
You can sit down and enjoy Monday night football, maybe
two Monday Night football as if you're interested. Yes.

Speaker 1 (05:27):
And my mom also there was a play where I
don't remember what happened, but she just looked at me
and goes, well, that doesn't seem fair. I think one
person pulled down the other one and there was no flag.
My mom said that didn't seem fair. So I like
watching sports with my parents. They're not the biggest sports fans,
and you get like a different perspective on the games.

Speaker 4 (05:48):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (05:48):
Well, they picked a good matchup to watch. I was
really excited to watch that game. The outcome. Wanted it
to be a little closer, but for a Monday night game,
getting the two NFC contenders, it's still a lot of fun.

Speaker 4 (05:59):
Detroit, though, dominated the game.

Speaker 1 (06:02):
I mean, that was one of those you know, I
think people slept on Detroit because they got crushed in
the first week. We always tend to give too much
emphasis to what happens in week one. But Detroit look
like Detroit in that game. And do you now have
them as your favorites in the NFC.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
Yeah, I mean it's the one game you mentioned to
start the season where they had question marks. But they've
answered the bell in every game but one since, looking
very good. The Bucks. I've been waiting for them to
take a drop. I'm not gonna call this a big
decline because you're at Detroit, one of the best teams
in the league, but it was the Bucks didn't need
a cooling off because they had been out of their
mind for several weeks, probably playing above what they really are,

even though I still think they're good.

Speaker 4 (06:41):
Do you.

Do you agree with me that Detroit games there's always
at least one person that has painted his bald head
half silver, half blue. They lead the amount of people
in the league in bald heads painted in half colors.

Speaker 3 (06:58):
Yeah.

Costumes, costplay, Detroit's your place cost play. Yeah, it's usually
they have like the do you think it's costplay if
you don't see like the costumes they wear. They got
like the cowardly lion out there and the full lion garb.
I mean, they really get into it. And the best
part is it's not like the young people. It's just people.

It's the dudes that just left the steel mill to
get into their to their lion's costume for the game.

Speaker 1 (07:20):
I often wonder like when those people are come to
the game, let's say they stop and get gassed, you know,
and they're just wearing a lion's head or their faces painted,
do they have any sort of any ambivalence about their
decision or is it just like this is what we do.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
I think if you're committing to the bit that much
going to a game in public like that, you're fine
walking into McDonald's and picking up your cheeseburger on the
way and just being a part of society, even though
you're dressed like a lion or the big Legion to Doom,
shoulder pads or whatever you have on. I just think
that's part of their their personality.

Speaker 1 (07:54):
Yeah, well they went up winning the game. Mike Evans
broke his Uh is it his clavicle? That's right now,
what is a claviical?

Speaker 4 (08:03):
I guess your collar bone? So some why don't they
say collarbone? Well, that's I guess the medical term. Maybe, or.

That's true that they're not different things. I'm not sure,

good enough.

We need him to get a thousand yards to break
Jerry Rice's record.

So it sounds like he's not going to Yeah, it

Honestly, it's only a collar boner, as we medical professionals
call it a clavicle. But if anybody can handle it,
it's Tampa. It feels like they have a million of
these guys, right Yeah.

I'd say if you go back to draft night, they're
real happy with their pick right now, knowing that Mike
Evans is out. They got a young rookie that's been
playing well in his place, but still losing Mike Evans.
It's been a big part of that offense for so long.
It's not a good thing. Todd Bowle said. They're hopeful
he'll be back by the end of the year, but
it's a long term deal.

Are you still Baker Mayfield is the MVP? Or now
are you flirting in another direction? There's a lot of
a lot of possibilities, Mahomes. Daniel Jones is out there
making some noise. I mean, what do you have?

I think Daniel Jones is my guy. I said this
last week before the odds.

Speaker 1 (09:30):
Look up the odds I'd like to see what the
odds would I'm gonna guess Mahomes is still the favorite,
but I would think Daniel Jones is like third now
behind Mahomes and Baker.

Yeah, I bet Josh Allen's high just because people expect
the Bills to turn it on and he's Josh Allen.
But Daniel Jones needs to be in the conversation. What
this is not a fluky six and one?

Daniel Jones has the second highest quarterback rating in the NFL.
It's not like he's just his first Dak. Dak's been insane, Yeah,
but I mean he's on a six win team and
he's doing that he's not turning it over. You can
add in the whole comeback story from leaving New York.
I hate the Colts, but you have to tip your
cap to what they've done and what Daniel Jones done
this they did the voting this week.

Mahomes would win, but I think Baker or Daniel Jones
would come in second, wouldn't they?

Allen, you're just assuming the Bills are going to turn

Jones has answered every test, and then they would have
beaten the Rams if not for the guy not holding
onto the ball at the end zone, they could be
undefeated right now.

I might even stand up walk around the house. But
I surrendered to those olids as the game went on.

And there was also, to be fair, a great base.
I mean it was game seven, Mariners Blue jays. I
mean that's pretty big, and you know gilded age. I
mean there's a lot of things happening that that take precedent.

Did you see Jackson Smith and Jigbo when he was
on the bench, like getting beat up by the other
team and the ref kind.

Of hugs him and just becomes like a shield.

Fir saw that. So why was he getting beat up?
I saw the video and it looked like we all
need a friend. As good as that ref was for
Jackson Smith and Jigbub, why was he getting beat up?

Typical scrum. I don't know what actually started it. Did
you have the moment that set them? He was on
the other side once you get trapped in there. He
was on the Texas sideline, and you need to get.

Why was he sitting on the bench?

and then when you're on the other sideline with no.

This is the exact same same situation as the grocery
chain I worked in high school. I won't say it's name,
but they said, if someone's shoplifting, it's not your job
to stop them, let them go, And I thought, well,
as an employee, I kind of feel like I should
do something. Nope, let them go. So maybe it's a louver.
They're like, get out of the way.

Get to people at banks too, they say, when you involved, yeah,
they just give them the money and go away.

I actually got in trouble. I saw a shoplifter and
push a whole cart full of meat out. Wasn't like
a little pickpocket thing. And I followed them out and
got their license plate number, and I got in trouble. Oh,
you got in trouble for following them outside because we're
not supposed to get involved. I'm like, well, sorry for
trying to help with the crime here. So I feel
like the louver has, yes, trouble just for going there.

not sure we've ever selected artists where we didn't have

some blowback or criticism. It's pretty hard to do when
you have literally millions of people where confidence is going
to be a great show. It's going to be exciting
and a united moment. Do are you glad that they
said the Bunny will still be there?

And I think you said something that I completely agree
with about how you can't please everyone because I can't
remember a Super Bowl party where someone's not complaining about
the musical.

person to play the Super Bowl. Like if they said, okay,
this person is it, you would hear the fewest complaints.

We often bring up Dolly as like someone that's very popular,
but in this yeah, so, I'm actually throwing her out,
even though I think she's one of the most likely
is the most unified. Dolly Parton is the most unifyingly
likable person. But I don't think if she comes out
and going I don't know that the people are going

I mean, well, okay, so who has been the most
universally liked was probably.

I mean that's probably the highlight of people going, this
is wonderful, right, But we were also in a war,
and people tend to unify more in a war, so

Not for my ex girlfriend. She did not like that
one bit. Yeah, there's nobody. People say, well, you could
have a country artist, but like you got to remember,

music at all, so like they wouldn't have any idea

point under. Yeah, that offense has been spectacular, especially last
week with CD back. They are so fun to watch.

because Pickens has been so good.

can't talk, keep lighting it up and maybe even win
that game in Denver.

hit more than about anybody in the league for what
was a contender a month ago. So if they don't
resolve that, they have big time problems. But then Vikings
also their quarterback situation. Yeah, I'm still probably going with

be quarterback, but we.

going to say I want to visit one that I've
been to. So I've been to Soldier Field, I've been
in the Bengals Stadium, been in the Meadowlands. I've been
to Pittsburgh, and I've been to Green Bay, and I'm
into Kansas City and I've been to Dallas. So I've
been to a lot of the ones that I think

you would you would really want to go to. So
for me, it's going to be fan bases that I
really want to go to. So Number one, I think
it would have been Buffalo. I'd want to go to
a game in Buffalo, experience kind of that whole that
whole vit right, because you don't get to you don't
get to to do that very much. I think oddly.
Number two for me is I'd like to go to

a big game in Detroit. Now because with Dan Campbell
that it seems like the crowd gets so loud that
it would actually be a surprising kind of amount of
