Wild Official. Stay tuned for more details about more OMGPS
live theater shows in London, Geneva, New York City, La,
outer Space, who Knows. Thank you for all your support. Hi,
(01:15):
it's Dalli Wild and I'm here with my incredible sound designer,
Paul mercy A. Paul also did the sound design for
my Oh My God Particles Show live theater version. That's
gonna be running from August second to twenty seven at
the Edinburgh Festival, except not on August fifteenth. It's produced
by Mick Perrien, the awesome producer of Eddie Izzard, Trevor
(01:40):
Noah prue Les, I mean, Micparrien Rocks, all the people
at mickparen worldwide who just want to connect humans through laughter.
That's my favorite thing. And Gilded Balloon, that's where my
show is. Gilded Balloon. It's a mother daughter team and
a lot of other fantastic people on that crew who
have been supporting the best theater in Edinburgh for thirty years.
(02:02):
But you know what, I haven't actually talked to a
live audience in a long time, and I kind of
became a hermit. You know, I was telling you in
episode one that spending the pandemic alone with my beloved dog.
So remember in episode one, I called Will Pearson, the
president of iHeart Podcast Network, and I asked him how
(02:25):
to make a podcast and how to start talking to
people again. And I'm gonna call him. He's probably in
a meeting. He's actually running the iHeart Podcast Network, right
and he's just the nicest guy. So I'm gonna call him.
So stand by, and I'm gonna ask him, how do
you actually talk to live humans in an audience hopefully
(02:46):
some dogs too, animals are there, and how do you
do it? Because he does it so well. He was
at the London podcast show. He was at the Black
Effect Fest Black Effect, the Black Effect Festival in Atlanta,
the London podcast show. Can's lion in can, So it's
can can lions in Can not cans, although we got
(03:10):
cans on our ears here when we do these podcasts.
But we're gonna call Will Pearson now because he's so supportive.
He believes in creativity and humanity and connection and community
and has helped me get my voice out there. So
stand by. We're dialing hold for Will Pearson, President of
iHeart Podcast Network. Will I Will. It's Dahlia. We love technology,
(03:34):
Haunt Dahlia.
Speaker 2 (03:36):
It's so good to hear your voice.
Speaker 1 (03:37):
You're awesome. You know, you're my favorite president and that
includes all presidents ever. And I met Jimmy Carter once,
how he was awesome.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
You're southern, absolutely just down the street from our offices
here in Atlanta.
Speaker 1 (03:51):
Ah, thank you for always being so helpful and absolutely wonderful.
I know I'm always singing your praises. But you are
just great.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 1 (04:01):
So I just wanted to ask you, so did you
I have made some progress home with my podcast. Thank
you for helping me make it and supporting me. And
now remember I started asking four questions in one. Now
I'm down to three or sometimes two, so I'm working on.
Speaker 2 (04:20):
Down.
Speaker 1 (04:21):
So now that I have to go do my live
Oh my God Particle show with the Edinburgh Fringe Festival,
I know. And then how crazy is that that they
a brilliant Sir Peter Higgs who discovered the Higgs boson,
which is the scientific name for the god particle. He
lives and teaches at University of Edinburgh.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
That's just so you're going to get to spend some time.
Speaker 1 (04:48):
Well apparently he's a reluctant genius. And but we're gonna
I'm gonna do my best, you know me, I'm a
super schmoozer. And wait, I know they put it out
there that we're gonna I have to think about that.
How Yeah, either we've got to find and help ask
him to help us find the iHeart particle. Well, I
will do my best. That would be pretty good podcast episode, huh,
(05:11):
I agree, So it's kind of synchronousy, especially because it
all started at Duke with my CERN mentor Mark Cruz,
who took me to CERN. He works at Duke. He's
an amazing particle physicist. You've heard him The New Zealander
on the podcast. But I was going to ask you
why so you helped me talk to people on a
microphone in a studio, but now I have to talk
(05:33):
to people in person and audiences, and you are just
my favorite support of creativity and community connection and it's
so vital right now. I genuinely think this is the
future of the planet that we create at our highest
level and be as human as possible. And so I
wanted to know what were you doing at the London
Podcast Festival, right can Lions Black Effect Festival? Just how
(05:58):
do you rock all those audiences?
Speaker 2 (06:01):
You know? It's one of those things that obviously takes
takes some practice and takes a little bit of time,
but I really enjoy it and I find that once
I learned that I didn't have to put on a
performance or be something other than myself to do that,
I've found a comfort zone with having to present in
(06:23):
front of others and have conversations in front of others.
And then the other part for me and I think
the same things should apply to you is I realized
I was getting to talk about something really fun, Like
we get to spend our time talking about the power
of podcast and the incredible growth that the podcast industry
is experiencing, and the excitement around the whole industry. And
(06:43):
for you, you're getting to talk about fascinating subjects. So
like the fact that both of us get paid to
do and talk about things that we love. Once I
stopped and realized that like, I'm not I'm not curing cancer,
I'm not doing anything. Ultimately, at the end of the day,
that's all that hard. But we're doing things that hopefully
bring joy to people and bring entertainment to people and
(07:07):
bring knowledge to people. And you're doing very much the
same thing. And so it's one of those I feel
really fortunate to get to spend so much of my
time traveling around going to all of these different festivals
and different events and getting to talk to people who
are excited about podcasts as well. It's a lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (07:27):
Excellent. The first time I heard your southern accent just there, Oh,
really so good. Where do you hail from Memphis.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I'm from Birmingham originally from Alabama.
Speaker 1 (07:35):
Oh so, and then just yeah, okay, well I'm going
to just do what you said. I have been following
your instructions and I just really connect with the joy.
I just sent someone a text this morning to thank
them for helping make the process of putting on a
live show a joy again, because sometimes, you know, I'm
(07:56):
sure that, especially as president of a network, you could
get bogged down in lots of the details and writing
checks and all sorts of things, so.
Speaker 2 (08:06):
It would be easy to do that. I know.
Speaker 1 (08:09):
That's why I want. I know. Are you a runner?
Is that what helps you always be so cool, calm
and collected, or that you're a Southerner.
Speaker 2 (08:16):
Well maybe it's a little bit of both, but I
actually am a runner. I have a long term goal
of running a half marathon in every state. It's really
for me more of my it's more my mental health
than anything. There was a time where I was traveling
a lot several years ago and it just wasn't feeling great.
But I was having to travel for work, and I thought,
(08:37):
you know what, I'm just going to get out there.
And at first it was like, I'm gonna go run
for ten minutes and just see what I feel like
after it, and then slowly started building up. And it's
amazing how much better I feel on a day where
I have the opportunity to get out there in the
morning and go for a run, and during the warmer
parts of the year to be able to jump in
(08:57):
a pool or jump in a creek or jump in
a river or whatever it is. After I go for
a run, they sort of get that rush of cool water.
But it's good for the soul to do.
Speaker 1 (09:07):
We got your secret. I used to run on the
Duke golf course and I ran when I went to
Bronx Science, I ran in the Van Cortland Park. I
used to run cross country. Wow, and yeah I could
just I know that was challenging. And you know some
of the teams in the Bronx they were pretty tough,
those other girls and they would but all right, we
I'm so lucky to talk to you every time I
(09:30):
talk to you, and I just I so appreciate that
about the joy and the creativity, and then that reminder
that I'm like an ambassador for creativity and joy and
fun instead of or in addition to the intro music
in my play on stage, I'm gonna play my podcast
and then the outra you know, when the audience goes out,
(09:50):
we're gonna play the podcast too, so we'll have a
captive audience. But I think it would be great if
you came to Edinburgh or maybe we'll be able so fun.
I know, I'm sure you're really busy. What's going on
this summer?
Speaker 2 (10:03):
How?
Speaker 1 (10:04):
What is it already July?
Speaker 2 (10:05):
Hard to believe, isn't it. Yeah, Yeah, we've got a
few iHeart events coming out to things that were really
gearing up towards inn September. We have our iHeartRadio Music
Festival that happens every year.
Speaker 1 (10:18):
We've got Las Vegas, that's.
Speaker 2 (10:20):
Right, that happens in Vegas. But there's always so many
fun events happening. But yeah, I can't even imagine how
fun that would be to be in Edinburgh for your show.
I think it's gonna be a blast in London? Did they?
Speaker 1 (10:33):
How are they? Are you bringing the global crowd into
the podcasting? Because that's my dream too. That my sister
she's on a bike in Armenia and she was in
Turkey through Georgia and I could see on the charter
bules the one listener in Turkey and they I don't
(10:55):
know how, they just go on bikes and ride for miles,
like for six months. But I love the idea of
connecting the world through the spoken word and the audio.
So that is excellent that you were in London and
then not Can right that Lions.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
That's right, yeah, So in Can that's the Can Lion
Advertising and Marketing Festival. So that's a celebration every year
of the best advertising happening. But we we spend that
time because there's so many cmos and other advertising decision
makers that are there that we spend you know, most
(11:33):
of the week just meeting with other companies and finding
out what their plans are, what their priorities are, and
talking about how we can help them reach the audiences
they're trying to reach through. iHeart both on the podcast
side and on the radio and event side as well.
But it was great and the nets for London, it's
called the podcast Show. It was in its second year.
(11:55):
It was fantastic. It was just really really impressive that
the organizing group put on and to see that excitement
among I would say probably half the audience was local,
was from the UK, and then probably a quarter was
from the US and a quarter was from you know,
everywhere else in the world. That's just a guess, but
(12:15):
it really was. It was clear that it was not
just the local audience there and that was a lot
of fun to see.
Speaker 1 (12:20):
I know, I love the BBC podcast. I especially love
their funny ones, and they love our iHeart podcast too,
So that and I'm gonna is that. Okay, I'm going
to report back to you from Edinburgh. I will I'll
try to hunt for the iHeart particle. I will keep going.
I'll see what I can do with Sir Peter Higgs.
Because the dog in my podcast and based on my
(12:43):
real dog, I love that his name is higgsy Bosani,
so it's a nod to Peter Higgs and the higgs Bosons.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
That's so wonderful.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Hopefully you won't ask me any complicated physics questions, but
all right, we will keep pushing forward with absolute joy
and creativity and doing our best to honor iHeart and
all the incredible support that you've given me in this show.
And I just it was it's been a really fun journey,
(13:12):
so I hope we can continue to move forward and
expand and it'll be awesome.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Well, you should just keep doing what you're doing. The
energy that you bring to this and the enthusiasm you
bring to this, it really comes through in the show.
And that's a big part of why the show has
been so good so far. You know, part of what
we try to do and in our programs here at
iHeart is just to give people, you know, some of
the resources and some of the guidance. But at the
end of the day, it really it really comes down
(13:38):
to the to our partners, to the talent, to the
creators to make a great thing. And you've done that,
and so we're super proud to be partners with you
and to just get to watch now what you're doing.
Speaker 1 (13:50):
All right, Well, I'll make you proud. Inspired me to
go running and jump in a creek. I will see
if I can find one. I'm sure I will so.
And you reminded me too, to take my passport. I
have a like that is like plastered to my forehead,
to take my best.
Speaker 2 (14:04):
Don't forget that passport. It doesn't go well if you
don't have it. There. I almost made that mistake, but Dolly,
it's always good to hear your voice. Always good to
chat with you and look forward to getting the report back.
Speaker 1 (14:15):
K you for taking the time. I just get so
excited when I talked to Will Pierson, president of iHeart
Podcast Network. I mean, that guy is He's just a wonder.
He's so supportive. He knows the most important things in
the world are creativity and joy and connection and community,
and he does everything to support that. So I'm going
(14:36):
to be an ambassador for joy for iHeart, encouraging everyone
to keep looking up, using their imaginations. Just be as
creative as possible. We need all the humanity we can get,
and don't forget. We are the Stars. Join us next
week for more of mind blowing guests and a special
surprise about see me and the OMGPS showed live and
(14:58):
in person at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Thank you for
being part of the OMGPS club. It's such a pleasure
to have you here. Until next time. If sound cannot
travel in a vacuum, you why you vacuum so noisy?
Remember keep looking up, stay positively charged. We are the stars.
(15:21):
Goodbye for now. Adios a rivederci Affaersen Abiento
