Welcome, one and all, Thank.
Speaker 3 (00:20):
You for joining me.
Speaker 1 (00:21):
I'm Gollia Wild and this is the Oh My God
Particle Show where we talk about science and art and
music and good good good vibrations and all matters near
and far. So ready or not, unpack your imaginations and
get ready to rumble through the universe that we are
so so lucky to live in. We are the stars
(00:44):
Wanton physicists.
Speaker 4 (00:46):
Theorized is not directly listening to the podcast.
Speaker 3 (00:54):
Cease to exist.
Speaker 4 (00:57):
It can only exists in a bag and under determined state,
an abstract location.
Speaker 2 (01:03):
Hey, Higgs Boson, we just got an email. Dear Dahlia.

phenomenal production group created by Mick Perrin. This guy the

the nicest guy ever, so mad.
Speaker 1 (02:06):
He discovered Eddie Hazard and Trevor Noah. He started them

sold out run in New York City with the equally
wonderful Arnold Engelman and west Beth. I love that Mick

some super special news for my omgpsers about how to
win free tickets to see the Oh My God Particles
Show live and in person.
Speaker 1 (03:33):
Listen before hearing. According to quantum theory, this podcast may
collapse into another state if audibly observed. Talking with all
these brilliant women's scientists on my podcast, I started to
learn all about the incredible women's scientists all throughout history.
There's so many genius women's scientists to learn about. In
(03:54):
addition to Marie Curie, who won two Nobel Prizes, one
in physics and one in chemistry, her daughter Irene also
won a Nobel Prize in chemistry. I mean, there are
so many women scientists who we need to celebrate an honor.
I don't know where to start. I mean, hey, tell
me some of your favorites. Email me at omgpspod at
(04:14):
gmail dot com. Some of my favorites are definitely Hetty Lamar,
who showed up from the Great Beyond in episode one
of the OMGPS podcast.
Speaker 2 (04:24):
And if I had to choose a few more out
of the endless women's science angel greats who deserve recognition,
I'd have to say I'm also absolutely blown away by
Vera Ruben in episode two. Remember Chris Lin taught from
the BBC The Sky at Night and Hannah Wakeford, who
wrote a book with that queen guitarist guy Sir Brian
(04:46):
may Right. Hannah mentioned that an observatory is being built
in Chile to honor Vera Rubin, to discover even more
about our deep and dynamic universe.
Speaker 4 (05:01):
That sounds like another wrinkle in the space continuum.
Speaker 2 (05:22):
No, wow, Vera A Ruben, did Hendy Lamar send you?
Speaker 3 (05:29):
I left her tinkering in the lab. I popped in
to give us some suggestions. We science angels need to
stick together.
Speaker 2 (05:38):
Not everyone knows about the brilliant women's science angels who
came before us. It sometimes feels like we're down here alone, imagining, investigating, experimenting, exfoliating, extrapolating.
Speaker 3 (05:51):
But don't worry, we're all here to help you. You
inspire me so much. If I had a Nobel Prize
via Ruben.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
I give it to you, famous fluff. My numbers mean
more to me than my name. If astronomers are still
using my data years from now, that's my greatest compliment.
I heard you had a mystical moment of sorts when
you discovered dark matter.
Speaker 3 (06:19):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (06:20):
I got enormous pleasure from seeing things that I'd never
seen before and attempting to understand them.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
You were a sketch artist of some sort too.
Speaker 3 (06:28):
I'll tell you what I did.
Speaker 2 (06:30):
It took me years trying to understand the rotation of galaxy.
So one day I made sketches on a piece of
paper and suddenly I understood it all.
Speaker 3 (06:39):
I have no other way of describing it.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
It was exquisitely clear it had to be dark matter.
Speaker 3 (06:46):
That aha moment must have been amazing.
Speaker 2 (06:49):
Yeah, well, let me tell you. Here are my top
three pet peeves Number one, there is no problem in
science that can be solved by a man that cannot
be solved by a woman.
Speaker 3 (07:02):
Number two, worldwide, half of all brains are in women.
And number three, we all need permission to do science,
but for reasons that are deeply ingrained in history, this
permission is more often given to men than to women.
Amen's sister. It's true.
Speaker 5 (07:20):
Science is competitive, aggressive, demanding, but it's also imaginative, inspiring, uplifting.
So ignore the obstacles, divide your own path.
Speaker 3 (07:31):
You can do it too. Okay.
Speaker 2 (07:33):
I was an astronomer and I also had a family.
I had four children in one house. Everybody had lots
of space, so the kids had their rooms and I
never cared what they looked like.
Speaker 3 (07:45):
The rooms.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
That is, we had lots of large tables, and my
husband used to say, there will always be a space
on one of those tables where we could eat.
Speaker 1 (07:54):
What a lovely man. I did a lot of my
work at home, so having a fan family and a
career was very hard.
Speaker 3 (08:02):
But it's doable, incredible.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Each one of you could change the world.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
You are made of star stuff and you are connected
to the universe.
Speaker 6 (08:12):
I got see you in the stars. I you're a
Ruben who we can change the world. We're made of
star stuff. We're connected to the universe.
Speaker 3 (08:23):
That's amazing. I love it. Let's all say it together.
O mgps ers.
Speaker 2 (08:28):
We can change the world. We're made of star stuff.
We're connected to the universe. We can change the world.
We're made of star stuff. We're connected to the universe. Wow.
Speaker 1 (08:44):
I had a hunch that the genius women's science angels
who passed over would figure out how to keep leading
the way going beyond space and time and continuing to
help us down here on Earth. When I get to
learn about the women's scientists who came before us and
who are scientists today, I find a common theme. It's
so cool.
Speaker 2 (09:05):
They trust their hunches, they keep going towards their discoveries
even when they're alone on their research journey, and they
ignore the naysayers.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Never say never.
Speaker 2 (09:17):
Let's remind people about all the contributions that women have
made to scientific discovery. Until next time. Never stop dreaming.
The sky is the limit or is it? Thank you
for tuning in, omgps ers, Oh, it's mail time.
Speaker 3 (09:38):
This comes from anxious and anchorage. Why can't you trust
an adam? They make up everything.
Speaker 2 (09:47):

Balloons at the Edinburgh Fringe FESTI called twenty twenty three.
