basketball became your pride and joy. Was there any other
sports that you played? And just tell us about the
upbring man.

I play everything, but I want to shout out to
Henry Logan, one of the Ashville greats, played in NBA,
one of the guys who influenced a lot of the
direction I wanted to go in basketball, but I played
everything one hundred percent. I was a real athlete. I'm
not a basketball player like I'm one of them genius joints.
You know what I'm saying, Bowling, pool, golf, but whatever

were swimming, what are we doing. I'm already trying to
be great at it, you know what I'm saying. If
not second best, you know what I'm saying. So that's
always been my challenge for myself is always to get better,
you know what I'm saying. And my dad challenged me
early on. Which was I think was the greatest challenge
was in the hood. You see the corner boys, see

all the girls, and they let you wear it. You

I had to make a decision between football and basketball
because I was going to be like Ronald Curry cold
quarterback what quarterback? And I was gonna be a quarterback
because I was looking at Mike Viake back then, so
it was kind of training towards that. And I had
to make a decision between the two and I ended

up picking football, I mean picking basketball because I didn't
like getting tackledn't like niggas touching me, judge my body.
I don't like touching me. So it was an easy decision.
But like my my passion for ball was just so deep.
It was it was just being able to go from
where I was to prep school and being able to

maximize on the opportunities of getting away from the negativity
of the hood. And I had like an offer from
Clemson my freshman year, right and I was so excited.
I was like, Yo, we got to take this nights
like a son, Listen, You're gonna have much more of that.
And I ended up being Player of the Year my
freshman year. But down the line, it's like were you're

from the hood, you ready to just take what's giving.
But once you got that attitude of how good you
can be, how much better you can get? And that
was my thing. It was always I want to be
like Mike Michael Jordan's playground, Come fly with me. Yeah,
VHS right, we're watching that shit. So I'm trying to
get better like Mike. So all the paths that I
took was all about growth and trying to get out

You eventually went to Clyde and then got the New Hampshire.
Can you tell us how that came about and what
forced that?

To see? Well, ship, I was already I tried to
go to the to the city schools, and it was
one of those things where we was in the hood,
but we was in the outskirts of the hood, so
it was clad in the hood, or which it wasn't
in the hood, so clad I went to. It was
called card Irwin so Asheville High which the city school.

there in my eighth grade year and I got cut
from the team because a grade I said, I was
a funny nigga in class. Not just a funny nigga
now is a funny nigga back then. So even back
then they didn't like I was a class clown, destructive,

The girls like the funny. Ship was the same way
they say back in the day, giggle. So the teachers
didn't like I had them giggling and wiggling, wiggling all
the team don't teach, so they made the thing to
not get me on the team. So the coach that year,

he's like, I'm gonna cut probably one of the best
players we ever seen, and they're making me do it,
and I'm gonna regret it. And I ended up having
to play like youth league. So I was supposed to
play eighth grade and I didn't. So I played youth
league and ended up in AAU, which was the biggest
blessing because AAU, I didn't know nothing about it. So

y b O, a UH Nationals and all of those
different AU circuits, Peach Jam, blue Grass, that's all ship
that's like helped me, you know what I'm saying. So
that put me on the map, and I just had
to kill after that ye she was a datus a night.
I was Nike, Like, yeah, I was Nike from my
junior year. So I had a Nike deal when I

got when I got drafted. So what did you do
with the Nike American kep went your junior year like yep,
junior said yea. So it was Dwan Wagner and the
Dwan Wagner Collos have to ask you, uh God, Marcus

Spears and and and was on the same team Carlos killers.
They they were, they know they were in an All
American game. They was an All American camp before me.
So I got to see real o g s play,
David Lee's all them play against each other. But y'all
had already y'all had already gone, right, So seeing them, man,

a lot of them dudes didn't really pan out, but
it was so there was so many killers, bro, so
many killers, and you watching killers, and you don't want
us shy away from the challenge of being around killers.
I remember he was there one year All American Camp.
He came back because it was in Indiana. He came
back to play with us, and he was the only

pro that we was all still college players because we

I'm like, this is ze bow I spoke to the
camp that Yeah, I spoke to the camp and kill
kill in the pickup. But we was on the same
team from running the pick and roll. This nigga know

That culture shock like going from North Carolina from the
ghetto to New Hampshire when you went because you went
to prep school.

different places? Can you change? You know who you are,
but still maintain who who you are? And I had
to go there and the culture shock was it wasn't
like high school. It was prep school. It wasn't no uniforms.

like it was like the boys dorm girl girls. But
we're all still in the same classes and ship. It's
just like college. And that was probably the eye opening
thing because it was people from Yugoslavia, Lithuania, Italy, Alaska.

now I'm getting a whiff of who who's really good?
Other other places like oh, this dude know how to roll?

seeing how to play with different people. But my attitude

I first got there, because I was just dunking on niggas,

the great players you played with, and what your experience was.

O two. That was Mellow. I'mari John May, Chris Bay,

It was really dope because coming out, I was the
number one shooting guard in my class. It was top five,

in that situation where I was coming in as this

but they just like, oh he up there at prep school,

against fiftyear seniors were going to university's playing against a

in type of experience the high school is not getting.
So getting to the McDonald's All American Game was definitely
something I shot for because I told my mom early on,

I was just like, yo, I'm gonna do that in
the dunk contest at the minute. And I told my mom.
She was like, okay. So when I did that and

the team. I look back at the McDonald's American game.

it was time to commit to schools or just tell
us that process and even what schools were recruiting.

by Tennessee and you can't. But she wanted to follow
my footsteps. Yeah, that's my twins. So she got her
love for basketball watching me play at the court and
trying to follow me everywhere I go, and she started

It was just her, just watching, just watching, and then
she wanted to play, and I'm like, nah, you can't
come out here because you saw and I'm trying to win.

younger and I'm more teacher to her. Okay, but once
she started, she's she's six to one and a half
six two, so she legit and she's a She's athletic.

She was kind of like Candas Parker, but without the

l A. Carolina came later because I found out they
wasn't recruiting me and it pissed me off. So league
was the league an option at that year. The senior year,
it became kind of an option because my trainer and
my teacher UH and coach at the time was pushing

we've done with this, we get to you to the
end of the year, we're gonna be talking about he
can go to the league high That's how he pushed me.
He was like, no, fuck all that other shit. We're
going in to the league. Shout out to Parsons, We're

thinking like yeah. So we ended up playing in the

Envy the Championship my senior year against Jared Jack and
Craig Smith. What's the academy whooped? They ass thirty eight
