Speaker 1 (00:00):
You know how Harrah has a baby.
Speaker 2 (00:02):
I went up to Dave after and I said, so,
when did the baby thing happen?
Speaker 1 (00:06):
Dude, like, how did I miss this?
Speaker 2 (00:08):
And he said, do you remember that act break? That's
dusk and it's you and Caanaan. I think I know
what to say now, I love you or something.
Speaker 3 (00:16):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (00:16):
There's some some heated exchange, and then there's a commercial break,
and then we come back sort of in the morning
and rider A Zadi breaks us up.
Speaker 4 (00:38):
You guys, welcome to the product Rebellion. This is Taylor
Gray as a Bridger Spector six, and it is a
lovely day to be joined by.

He was everybody, Vanessa Marshall, Specter two, Harris Sindula, and
today we are also joined by Hi.
Speaker 6 (00:54):
It's t Sir car voice of Sabine Wren Specter five.
And we are not alone with us, we have everybody.
Speaker 7 (01:01):
It's John Lee Brody, your friendly neighborhood moderator. And today
we are going over Star Wars Rebels season two, episode twelve,
A Princess on withal. I hope so because that's just
my notes.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
That's that's the one I watched, So I hope we're
talking about, well, this.
Speaker 7 (01:23):
Is going to be a very fun episode. But before that,
as always family checking time. How is everybody doing? And
this includes of course you listeners that have been tuning
in week after week.
Speaker 1 (01:33):
Actually, how are you John? We always regale you, tell
us how are you doing? You're looking great, man, you
you're good, you look very cool.
Speaker 4 (01:41):
This is a Letterman jacket.
Speaker 7 (01:43):
It is not just any Letterman jacket. It is by
Letterman jacket. Yeah, because we had a bye week last
week and we had a two tough losses, but in
our in all fairness, it's to the like top two
teams in the nation that Illinois has lost to.
Speaker 1 (01:57):
You guys have been crushing it.
Speaker 7 (01:59):
They're doing good. The Ohio State game was was tough,
but like Ohio State is Ohio State. When they ran
that trick play, I was like, we need more of
that because otherwise it's just you're not going to break
through to that like impenetrable defense that that Ohio State has.
Speaker 6 (02:14):
And I've been rooting for you guys, and I have
to say I've never rooted for I've never rooted for
you guys before in my life.
Speaker 1 (02:20):
It's probably because I now.
Speaker 6 (02:21):
Know you and you're a fan and you're also a
former player and so and also I really want Ohio
State to lose.
Speaker 4 (02:29):
Yeah, you're familiar, You're familiar with that feeling.
Speaker 1 (02:32):
Yeah, I do.
Speaker 4 (02:33):
I am. I started it.
Speaker 7 (02:35):
We're trauma bonded by Ohio State.
Speaker 4 (02:36):
I always loved John. I always loved that their name
was as a kid, like since I was like six
years old, because I would memorize all the mascots that
it was Illinois fighting a lion. I was that that
is such a wild It's so cool. It always sticks
in my mind.
Speaker 6 (02:49):
What did you did we already talk about this? Did
you tell us how to properly pronounce this?
Speaker 1 (02:55):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (02:55):
Is it not?
Speaker 2 (02:56):
No?
Speaker 1 (02:56):
It is right? Is it a try? Is it the
name of a tribe?
Speaker 3 (03:01):
It was?
Speaker 7 (03:02):
You know, And there was so my senior year there
was controversy with Chief of Linawek, who was our mascot.
But we had someone who was an actual Native American
doing like the halftime dance, which was an actual dance
of the tribe. But then all of a sudden, a
bunch of white people got up in arms and said
this is cultural appropriation, Like you're a bunch of white
people talking about authentic Native American culture, but then they
(03:23):
got rid of the mascot. So if you look in
like the nineties and all the way up to like
two thousand and seven, we had the Chief as our mascot,
and now it's just says fighting a line I. But
we all know, like the part of the lore and
part of the tradition of Illinois. We all know, like
the true mascot for lack of a better term or
true symbol rather is chief a line iwak. But yeah,
(03:45):
that's correct, I mean, I hope. So I've been saying that, I.
Speaker 4 (03:48):
Mean every broadcast there for twenty years since I've heard.
Speaker 7 (03:52):
But you never know because apparently did you hear that
we've been pronouncing Denzel Washington's name wrong this whole time?
Did you hear about this?
Speaker 4 (03:58):
Yeah, he said that, but he kind of didn't. He say,
like it has been take it.
Speaker 6 (04:04):
Like that his mom has been His mom changed it
so that she whoever she was yelling at would know
exactly who she was addressing.
Speaker 1 (04:11):
Right, Isn't that the thing?
Speaker 7 (04:13):
Is that part of it? Because I just I've seen
the clip on like Instagram.
Speaker 6 (04:17):
I think it was that her He's a junior, right,
and his dad is Denzel, but it's what is what
is the.
Speaker 7 (04:24):
Proper He says, it's Denzil.
Speaker 1 (04:26):
It's Denzil.
Speaker 6 (04:27):
So when she would yell Denzil, uh, they both you know,
so to differentiate, he started going by Denzel. I could
be wrong about that, and please don't get mad if
that's incorrect, but that's what I thought it was.
Speaker 7 (04:40):
Please then, mister Washington, don't get back.
Speaker 4 (04:43):
I love you're enjoying our podcast.
Speaker 6 (04:45):
You listen, and I'm so sorry if I misquoted you,
and thanks to you.
Speaker 7 (04:50):
Imagine if he just popped into the zooms like you
say that, No, this is how you pronounce it. Okay,
like you say Denzil, it's Denzel, now's Denzel. You can
say whatever you want because King Colleen me.
Speaker 1 (04:58):
Okay, wait, what is the correct pronunciation?
Speaker 4 (05:02):
Then he said Denzil, yes, stressing the first So yeah, Denzel.
Speaker 1 (05:07):
Oh wow.
Speaker 7 (05:08):
And if you listen to Spike Lee interviews, that's that's
how Spike refers to him. He said, Denzil.
Speaker 4 (05:13):
Yeah, interesting, yeah, Spike Lee.
Speaker 6 (05:16):
John it's also Kirsten Dunced. She just recently did an
interview saying that people have been mispronouncing her name.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
But that she's people.
Speaker 6 (05:26):
Says Kirsten, but it's Swedish and it's Kirsten Good.
Speaker 7 (05:30):
And it's actually Taylor.
Speaker 8 (05:32):
Was about to say, guys, it's Jim. Where did we
get really pronouncing it's wrong? Jim Grayscaster's.
Speaker 7 (05:48):
Let's just go with it. We got the fact check
and Jason goes actually through twenty three and me, Jim Gray,
it's gonna be like a Mory Povich sort of sort
of fact check. All right, so shall we get into
this this very fun episode and.
Speaker 4 (06:02):
Yes, princess.
Speaker 7 (06:05):
Oh and by the way, we forgot to mention this
last episode. But Canaan says, hang on in the past episode,
so all to hang on tallies ha, because hairs only done.
I think three.
Speaker 1 (06:16):
Yeah, Wow, we're.
Speaker 7 (06:22):
Gonna have to change that. We're gonna have to do
a little revisionist go back in the writer's room. All right,
real Here comes recap for season two, episode twelve, A
Princess on La Thal. Morale is pretty low for Phenis
Squadron and resources or even lower, but Hara informs Canaan
via hologram FaceTime that help is on the way in
the form of Senate Royalty, who answers to the name
of Leah. The emotional wounds are still very fresh for Ezra,
(06:43):
but there is a mission to accomplish and a princess
from all around to meet. Canaan has writer to come
with them, but the former government refuses, but does lot
to do his speeder bike. Canan as a quickly see
that Leah is a total boss and the ultimate space
diplomat with the way she handles Imperial troops. But like
every plan that's great in theory, this one gets hit
with the unanticipated variable. In this case it's gravity locks
(07:03):
on the ships she was trying to discreetly give to
the rebels, and to make matters more complicated, Chopper sends
out a discretion call from Rider's hangout. Or him and
Rider are cornered by stormtroopers and like the Motown song
from nineteen sixty five, they have nowhere to run. Enters
Harra stage Rye, who comes in with air support accompanied
by the classic Star Wars theme and offers the ultimate
air support. And it is here where the acting chops
(07:24):
of the Rebels are on full display in order to
deceive the other troopers, including zeb who was maybe a
little too method for Canaan and Ezra's liking though they
escaped this particular encounter, there are still a matter of
the main mission at hand. But between Lea able to
lift Ezra's spirits and give the Ghost Crew the ultimate
halftime speech, at least to the ultimate Rebels assemble, owen
ryder az Zati, he decided to join the party too.
(07:44):
What follows is a sequence that's part precise battle park,
gracefall like a ballet, and all rebellion. And by the
time the dust settles, the rebels have their ships, the
Empire has been publicly humiliated, and Lea's diplomatic cover remains intact.
And that is the recap for season two, episode twelve,
Princess on Thank you.
Speaker 1 (08:07):
What a fun episode. It was so great.
Speaker 6 (08:09):
I really enjoyed it, especially after like how emotional and
heavy and you know, kind of heart wrenching the last episode. Wise,
this was like, this was fun stuff.
Speaker 7 (08:20):
Princess Leah. Yeah, So I got a d M on
the on the Pot of Rebellion account. This is literally
before we recorded from Julie Dolan, who voiced Princess Leah
and who expressed that maybe she'd want to come on sometime.
So I love Julie. Thank you for missing us and
we'll figure that out.
Speaker 2 (08:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 9 (08:38):
I thought she did a great job. Yes, I love
the cadence. Oh we can't turn back now like that.
There were a lot of those where I wrote them
all down. They were so great they do know or
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (08:53):
Yeah, it was more than that, but that's a very leyah.
Plus she was very snippy, right, yeah you really got
you got to Ezra, right.
Speaker 6 (09:05):
Was spunky, like yeah, it's cool. Yeah, I mean Lena
is so cool. But like what a tall order to
be to voice match, not voice match necessarily, but to
like even just attempt to you know, kind of what's
the word hearken to? Uh be Princess Leiah be Carrie Fisher?
Speaker 4 (09:28):
That's old is she in this? I mean? Is that
jac Or say?
Speaker 7 (09:33):
I think she's fifteen in this?
Speaker 4 (09:35):
Oh so oh wow, I figure she was young. I not.
I didn't realize that.
Speaker 1 (09:41):
I didn't realize she was fifteen. Wow.
Speaker 7 (09:43):
That's like that's why a connect they click because they're
on that same like wavelength, like they're basically if there
was a CW version of this show, like like the
Dawn Astra era of like Dawson's Creed One Tree Hill. Okay,
I'm gonna thlow this out there and FYI, Han and
Lea are endgame. That's how it should be and no
one's I'm not going to refute that, but there's some
(10:06):
chemistry here between young Ezra Bridger and Princess Leah Arghana
and if this were a CW show and then they
and they're just like a young Han solo one percent,
like a love triangle between the three of them, because
I think Ezra and Princess Leah maybe too much alike.
But I always feel like three ships got away, but
two ships kind of passing the night, and Ezra and
Princess Leah's I just want to throw that to the
(10:27):
group and see what you all think that's funny, Like yeah.
Speaker 1 (10:32):
Yeah, well there was. There was like a bit of
a will they won't they moment, a couple of moments
where you were like, wait a minute.
Speaker 4 (10:38):
Yes, well where Sabine gives no rhythm a little.
Speaker 6 (10:42):
Yeah no for Ezra, Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
Speaker 4 (10:47):
Sabine has a rhythm. I'm saying in it.
Speaker 6 (10:50):
Leah isn't completely dismissive Ezra as Sabine is when he's
trying to like do that hey, oh hey know what
it smell like.
Speaker 7 (11:04):
Though it's a little like almost like puppy love sort
of thing because they were both and it wouldn't have
worked out for whatever, you know, because obviously Han and
Lea or endgame. But I think, uh, because I'm a
big Superman fan, so obviously Clark Kent's meant to end
up with Lewis Lane. But when he was in Smallville,
his first love is Laana Lange, and I almost feel
like had they been in.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
The same places and Lana Lange.
Speaker 7 (11:25):
Yeah, though those were those are the women and Superman confused.
If I was Superman, well, good thing he's got super
super memory from the from the Earth's Yellow Sun. That's
his saving grace. But uh yeah, I always was like
this could have been like one of those sort of situations,
like maybe if they were in the same place at
the same time, it could have been like this sort
of teenage romance that wasn't meant to be the real
(11:46):
deal until they go on to what they do. That's
that's from my mind when I was like, this is
such a CW like melodrama between the two of these.
Speaker 6 (11:54):
Could have been, but it wasn't because it's Star Wars,
We're not sure, we're not. We have bigger fish to fry,
a bigger task at hand, and we're not, you know.
Speaker 4 (12:03):
And also does go sad a little when he's like,
well he lost some learning and he's like you might
know about that? Yeah, I mean, and they still go
to that place for a second. Yeah's already a lieutenant
Uh Leah, she.
Speaker 7 (12:20):
Just full on princess. I think she's whatever she wants
to be.
Speaker 4 (12:23):
Yeah, sick because they call her lieutenant too. I was like, dang,
she has all of the ACCLEI she's everything already, right,
Am I crazy?
Speaker 10 (12:34):
No?
Speaker 7 (12:34):
I mean that all trans because by the time we
get to the you know, the second the sequel trilogy,
she's like a full on general. So I meant tracks
yeah with her sick Yeah.
Speaker 8 (12:45):
Uh.
Speaker 7 (12:45):
What can you tell me about because we didn't get
to talk much about him last episode? But Clancy Brown?
So was he in the booth with you all? Like,
what what was it like recording with Clancy? Because he's
his voice that you talked about to being it's just
so like you talk about gravitas, that's the very definite
of gravitas is his voice. So what can you tell
me about work with Clancy? And how that all came together.
Speaker 1 (13:06):
Yo, was he in the room with us?
Speaker 4 (13:07):
Yes, yes, I weirdly remember him more than most people
re quorded with interesting.
Speaker 6 (13:11):
He first of all, he's so imposing physically, like he's
very tall. He's a tall guy, and his voice is
like this deep.
Speaker 1 (13:20):
I mean, he's he's so cool.
Speaker 4 (13:22):
He's so cool, super sweet, and I remember his son
is a massive Star Wars fan, so he kind of
came in with this thing. He kind of told us
right away. I think his son he had talked about
much his son and enjoyed Clone Wars because he was
on Clone Wars. And he was just like, yeah, I
just know that my son's gonna love this, like he
doesn't love everything else, that he doesn't care as much
(13:42):
about some of these other things. And I remember how
like sweet and generous he was, but also like he's
someone who like walks the walk. He's so cool in
every take, every scene. Yeah.
Speaker 1 (13:54):
Yeah, I had.
Speaker 2 (13:56):
Worked with him in I Believe Young Justice and also
Spectacular Spider Man, so I had known him personally from that,
but I also as a huge Clone Wars fan. His
savage oppress was still I'm still recovering from the Duchess
Settine plot.
Speaker 1 (14:16):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (14:17):
Yeah, anyway, I can't even talk about it, but yeah,
but I can't anyway, but yeah, he he. I remember
him being there, and I also remember, you know, the
different season premieres or finales or whatever that we did
that his son would be there and you'd always shout
out the coolest questions, oh hand and yeah, his son
(14:40):
was just really wonderful.
Speaker 6 (14:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (14:43):
I haven't seen him in a minute, but I mean
he's gone on to do so many incredible on camera
things in addition to this. But yeah, I just love
seeing him pop up all over the place.
Speaker 1 (14:56):
It's great.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
It was, was he? I mean John new provis Was
he the Highlander?
Speaker 8 (15:03):
No?
Speaker 7 (15:04):
I mean the original Highlander? No, that that's Laber he
made in it.
Speaker 6 (15:09):
But I know he has like hundreds of things, by
the way, because I can't remember what exactly it was,
but I remember Dave coming out to him whispering.
Speaker 4 (15:21):
But shoot, I mean it means nothing. Now. Dave really
like fanboid over Clancy in something that he had seen
when he was younger, because he would always be like, Yo,
that's so and so, and I was like sick.
Speaker 7 (15:32):
I mean, I thought of him in like Shawshank is legendary.
Speaker 4 (15:36):
Yeah, yeah, I've seen sure. I don't know what it was.
The Dave loved him in something, but I mean he's
he was awesome.
Speaker 1 (15:42):
I'm looking, but I can't. I mean, he's got too
many He's got too many.
Speaker 4 (15:47):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (15:48):
Jac mentioned uh Starship Troopers last episode during the fact check,
which is a great one in Paul Verhoven in general.
You know Paul Rahoven of course also directed RoboCop, which
you watched RoboCop. Now, I'm like, wow, like this has
made an eighty eight. It's somehow this is reflecting real
life far off? Yeah, not very much so, but uh yeah,
(16:09):
God Like, Clancy's in so many things and they're all
kind of coming back where I think he was in
that Robin Williams movie Flubber. Do you all remember Flubber?
Was he was the original one.
Speaker 1 (16:19):
He's also in SpongeBob.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
He's been in two one hundred and ninety two episodes
of Sponsordin.
Speaker 4 (16:24):
Does that look like Islander?
Speaker 7 (16:27):
So he's not the he's not the Highlander, but he's
not in it because Christopher Lambert was McLeod who was
like the one, because remember, there can be only one
in Highlander.
Speaker 4 (16:36):
Well, so that was the thing. When he was telling me,
I was like, I haven't seen Islander, but he was
like he was very hyped on that. I remember.
Speaker 7 (16:42):
I forgot he was in I haven't seen Highlander in
forever because all I remember is because Sean Connery's in
that movie and he's like, he's righting, He's like where
brothers McLeod oh Coulter, and that's how he talks that.
I totally forgot that he was in Highlander.
Speaker 8 (16:56):
Wow.
Speaker 1 (16:57):
Wait, is Clancy a lie that?
Speaker 6 (17:00):
Sorry pardon, pardon my ignorance, but is Clancy the live
action rider Azoti in Ahsoka?
Speaker 2 (17:08):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (17:09):
Oh sick. He looks dead on for that's badass. I
like his I like his helmet hat.
Speaker 1 (17:17):
Yeah, he's so cool.
Speaker 5 (17:21):
Hold on, not to cut too far ahead, but you
know how Hair has a baby?
Speaker 1 (17:28):
Yeah? Mostly I remember after the finale.
Speaker 2 (17:32):
That we've talked about where I'm eating a bar and
I see Jason for the first time, et cetera. But
I went up to Dave after and I said, so,
when did the baby thing happen?
Speaker 1 (17:42):
Dude?
Speaker 2 (17:42):
Like, how did I miss this? And he said, do
you remember that act break? That's dusk and it's you
and Canaan. I think I know what to say now,
I love you or something.
Speaker 1 (17:51):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
There's some some heated exchange and then there's a commercial
break and then we come back sort of in the morning.
Speaker 1 (17:57):
And rider A Zadi breaks us up.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
No anyway, Zotti comes up and he's like, who he's
he kind of he said, he interrupted you guys. That's
when that's when Jason happened. But I just I love
that writer. Azzotti was the like, hey, guys, you know, hey,
what's going on here?
Speaker 1 (18:18):
With commercial break? I never forgot that. I was like,
Clancy Interesting.
Speaker 4 (18:23):
What a cool name to writer?
Speaker 1 (18:25):
Yea?
Speaker 7 (18:26):
And also Clancy Brown.
Speaker 1 (18:28):
Did you guys watch The Penguin?
Speaker 7 (18:32):
Oh yeah, he plays Salvatory Maroney. I'm a big DC
Comics narrative case. I didn't know ye that.
Speaker 6 (18:38):
By the way, if that if you to those listening,
if you haven't watched The Penguin, I highly recommend now
do it now.
Speaker 1 (18:46):
So great Also great podcast, and.
Speaker 7 (18:48):
Go shout out to Kristin Miliotti too, because who just
crushes it in that series and I remember seeing her
in Wolf of Wall Street And of course the hype
was Leo and Margot Robbie rightfully so because the to
her incredible, but I couldn't. I was like this Kristin
Miliatti woman, like she's incredible, the one that plays Leo's
first wife in the movie. I'm like, there's something about her.
(19:08):
And I said, I hope she gets a vehicle that
can showcase what she does.
Speaker 4 (19:12):
Springs.
Speaker 7 (19:13):
Yeah, it was yeah, yeah, how I met your mother
and she's been a.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
Cool for that. I'm not going to try and compare
to Rob Wins, but the thing of like doing comedy
and drama, Like there aren't loads of people who like
she's equally as good with both, do you know what
I'm saying, Like I just think of Rob Wins, but
I'm not, to me Rob Williams untouchable, but I can't
actually think of loads of those people that just go
back and forth so so seamlessly.
Speaker 7 (19:38):
Yeah, and she just like like Robin because Robin, as
you know, no one moved on camera like Robin Williams.
Like Kristen has a way of just owning the space
even if she's not moving in the frame. She just
just you can't take your eyes off her. If it
was the same with Wolf of Wall Street, I couldn't
shut up about her. Yeah. So, but but she's gotten
her flowers this year and she's getting the recognition and
and uh yeah she did. Yeah and yeah so.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
Yeah you guys. Also, Colin Ferrell deserves all the all
the awards available for that performance. Anyway, I digress. Let's
get back to our show, because the Penguin was really good.
Speaker 1 (20:22):
Yeah, Doctor Leah is fifteen.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Was there like any vibe between Ezra I just I mean,
I know they have like a heartfelt thing where she's like,
I know who you are. I think, is it Canaan
Is said he could use a friend, and he's like,
you're a princess.
Speaker 1 (20:38):
You don't have to do this.
Speaker 2 (20:39):
I don't know if it's worth it, blah blah blah.
And she's like, I feel because I can, I have
to for those who cannot. That doesn't feel like I
could smell you vibes. It seems like a heartfelt connection there.
But I do remember thinking at the time when I
watched it the first time, Wait, how old is she?
Is There something between the two with them or no, I.
Speaker 7 (21:02):
Would think because they're both young and I think bonded
by what's going on. But if you're too attractive people.
I think there's I would think that naturally some sort
of about life. Yeah, I mean as blue hair, how
can you not well in the piercing blue eyes too?
So I mean he's got the matching set and everything,
but no, I mean those piercing It's true. You know,
(21:26):
I got to take a lap every once in a while,
you know, when I'm doing these preparation for this. But uh,
I mean, like I said, I think it's two ships.
I think it's one of those where maybe it could
have been, but it probably wouldn't have lasted. I think
they may have been a good match, but the better
story is her ending up with Han solo because you
brought out the best in Han, you know, and stuff
(21:47):
like that. But yeah, I say, one hundred percent there
was I think.
Speaker 10 (21:50):
So.
Speaker 2 (21:51):
Yeah, I was just curious because I know you said that, Yes,
she obviously ends up with Han, and we kind of
put a bow on that, but I still I just
didn't know if I was imagining I thought, oh, that
would be cool, or are they setting something up plot
wise for the future. I don't know, But obviously nothing
ever happened and it went to Han. So uh, my
other favorite line was when they take a prisoner and
(22:14):
the Stormtroopers like they take prisoners, and the guy's like, they.
Speaker 7 (22:18):
Do that now, And that's Steve right a part of
our game, our new game called Spot the bloom Man.
Speaker 6 (22:25):
Steve's all over this one and last episode. There's a
whole bunch of Imperial Steve. And it's just so funny
to me.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
Caanan's like Rider Azadi and I joined the fight.
Speaker 4 (22:40):
I thought it was crazy that, like, I mean, this
is to me introduces a new level that a Jedi
Alung didn take down a Walker like cool. If I
said that as a kid, I'll be like, yep.
Speaker 1 (22:55):
I mean he did.
Speaker 6 (22:56):
I mean it was just like it's physics, right, he
just took out two of the legs and there like
that was that whole sequence was so badass. Oh that
reminds me that, like, so none of them know he's
a Jedi.
Speaker 4 (23:09):
It occurred.
Speaker 6 (23:10):
I didn't even think about that until doesn't Ride or
as audiego.
Speaker 1 (23:13):
He's a Jedi, and I'm like, oh right, they have
no idea.
Speaker 6 (23:17):
They just think he's a rebel, which is so interesting
to sort of reframe, like we all know, you know,
that's just par for the course that Canaan is our
resident Jedi and like nobody else knows and they aren't
really supposed to know.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
And he you know, kind of has to take care
of business when he has to, so secrets out. But
like I had.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
Forgotten that he the people that they meet as they
go through life aren't privy to that information until they are.
Speaker 1 (23:47):
You know.
Speaker 7 (23:51):
Yeah, you know, I'm glad you brought that up, Taylor,
because as you recall, and I was talking about this
with JC before we started recording. Uh, there's a lot
of Empire Strikes back DNA I feel in this episode
between the Walkers which they are the Imperial Officer as
you see, they call it an ataight, So j C,
I know you'll address this because Jac's in the ad
(24:11):
At camp. I think it's either one. I've heard j
j Abrams call ad At. I've heard both ones. It's fine.
But Luke Skywalker is your acall or maybe not. I
don't know if you've gotten that far, Taylor, but uh,
there's a part in Empire Strikes mean where Luke Skywarker
takes down and.
Speaker 4 (24:27):
Wait, that's when he takes the he's in the ship
in it.
Speaker 7 (24:32):
He does he does that but then remember Dak, his
co pilot goes down, so he has to get out
of his snow speeder and he goes like with like
a grappling hook, goes into the ad at walker and
cuts it open, throws a thermal detonator in it, so
like there is precedent for that, which and even the
way that Leah comes in and she calls for the
deck officer, and I look, I don't think anything's an
(24:54):
accident when it comes to this universe. But there's this
line in Empire Strikes Back when Luke return to the
base on Hawth and Hand's like deck Officer, deech officer
is just the tone of which Leah said Deck Officer.
I was like, there's a lot of Empire strikes Back
in this episode. It may just be wishful thinking on
my part of because I love Empire strikes Back so much,
(25:15):
but I just felt there's a lot of those subtle
callbacks to the classic trilogy. And here's the other thing. Okay,
back to what you're saying about the chemistry between Ezra
and Leah Vanessa, because we have to remember Leah is
also Anakin's daughter, so she has forced sensitivity, but doesn't
know it. So maybe is there something there where she
(25:37):
can sense something but doesn't understand the feeling. Just like
when like when I started going to therapy and my
therapist gave me this is what that is, I'm like, oh,
like when you get a word to associate with a feeling,
all of a sudden it makes sense. I feel like
at this stage at Leah, I don't think she knows
that she's for sensitive, but maybe that's part of some
sort of bond there because they're all tapped into the
(25:59):
force be per salidity there.
Speaker 2 (26:01):
That's no more sense to me because it's not hey,
can you slow me?
Speaker 1 (26:06):
Yeah, it's different.
Speaker 11 (26:07):
That was just the inside thoughts, you know what a
smell like. Yeah, that seems a little uh, not quite
as noble.
Speaker 4 (26:19):
I feel like there's also that thing. I mean, okay,
I felt this all the time, especially like acting at
a young age. I would be on sets. There'd be
one hundred and twenty people that are all older than me,
and then there's someone who's your age. No matter what,
you're just like, oh someone's my age, all right, you
know what I mean. It's just that inherent thing as well,
(26:40):
like with the Rebel Crew, like everyone's older than I mean,
not too often do they come across young people their age.
That's why I was all surprised. I didn't even realize
she was only like fifteen. I thought she was a
yeah older, but yeah there. I feel like there's a
little bit of that too, of like okay, like someone.
Speaker 6 (26:58):
Gets it well well, I mean, Sabine is only two
years older than Azra.
Speaker 1 (27:02):
She just doesn't give you the toes. It feels like
a life, feels like a lifetime between us.
Speaker 4 (27:10):
The music was cool when they played like actual uh,
I don't say actual, but like the big theme of
Star Wars with Leah.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Yeah gives you kind it kind of like gives you goosebumps,
like that's Princess Leiah Wars.
Speaker 1 (27:23):
Yeah, she says she.
Speaker 6 (27:27):
And I think you mentioned this, but she has this
line that I just had to write down because it
you know, I felt, really, I just felt some things
when I heard her say it.
Speaker 1 (27:38):
She says, I feel like, because I can fight, I
have to for those who cannot. And I was like,
we got to write that down.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
And then who who says it kind of near the end,
he goes, I don't think they're on our side.
Speaker 1 (27:52):
Oh, one of the stormtroopers. Yeah, definitely Steve. Yeah right.
Speaker 4 (28:00):
Also, I feel like, I mean zeb knocking out. He
fully knocks them out because I'm always curious when what's happening.
It's exactly what you think, just a little ct he
knocks them out, and then that's way back for the stun. However,
many episodes now Kanaan Kenna needs to get his revenge
on both of them.
Speaker 7 (28:22):
After you're out of a concussion protocol from He's like,
you're wearing your helmets just and the whole line of
uh les like more friends of yours and kin is like, yeah,
I'm a likable guy. It almost had like an Andrew
Dice Clay sort of energy, said like, oh, I'm a
likable guy. We talk, Yeah, let's go.
Speaker 4 (28:45):
And it's from Jersey. Secretively, yeah, secretly.
Speaker 2 (28:50):
I remember I remember Dave talking to us at the
beginning of season two, and you know, Harry getting a
new title, and that the the drama is building and
sort of leading us ultimately I think toward Throng eventually.
But when we see the fleet that it's enlarged as
much as it has in the final shot with all
(29:11):
those ships going off, it reminded me of like, oh yeah,
I remember Dave telling us we're going to see our
strength grow as the enemy becomes more oppressive and the
stakes get higher and higher. And I felt like that
last shot really set up the fact that a we're growing,
oh we're also being you know, sort of messed with
(29:34):
even more because the strength of the empire. But did
you guys remember him saying that about sort of the
arc of the season.
Speaker 4 (29:45):
Vaguely, But I for viewers like me, it's nice because
I'm like, Okay, yeah, it's good to just check back
in and be like, Okay, it's getting a little bit stronger.
And what Star Wars is overall is the imperial against rebellion,
and it's nice to see where we're at. Here's like
just a little marker to be like, Okay, it's getting bigger.
It's getting yeah, like a.
Speaker 6 (30:05):
Little a tiny bit of a more macro view of
what's happening versus like this micro view of what we
are doing, what our struggles are, what, you know, to
suddenly get that like perspective of like what they're what's
what's the larger kind of like action happening and where
do we fit in with that it's a nice kind
(30:27):
of touchstone or like just a reminder of like, oh yeah,
they're not just sort of this tiny little cell kind
of going going off and doing the best they can.
But now there's actually like you know, people, people that
they are responsible for or responsible for them, or they
are you know, like it's it's encouraging that it's not
(30:50):
just like you know, it's not a few it's not
a few tile exercise, and it never has been and it.
Speaker 1 (30:54):
Never will be. But just that there, it is part
of a larger picture. It's a nice reminder of that.
Speaker 7 (31:01):
Yeah. Yeah, I like that that part where they're in
the ship and Leah's explaining that this is what the
plan was, and as was like why didn't you just
hand it off? And when we were just above the
plan and she explains like, well, there's a bigger political
game I have to play. And I think just seeing
that sort of sappiness from like a young fifteen year
old Leah, you know, this sort of I guess young
(31:22):
idealist for lack of better term, just you see like
the seeds are being planted for the road of her
becoming this legend in the in the trilogy. And I
just thought That was so cool of her, touching because
so much of the of Star Wars is that political
commentary and the political game and correct which again is
not at all, you know, relatable to what anything we're
(31:46):
experiencing ever, especially not in current times. But the good
thing we have stuff like Star Wars to kind of
show us what that might look like. But I just
I thought that was like her, she's playing this whole
other chess match probably that even her father there's not
even aware of, because I do attribute that to her
force powers like she I think she has an extra gear,
(32:06):
just like when you see like a special actor, athlete
whatever it is, like it goes beyond learning the fundamentals,
learning the skill set, like there's something you can't teach.
Speaker 1 (32:16):
Yeah, there's like a little special sauce.
Speaker 7 (32:18):
Yes, yes, and with you Sea for sure.
Speaker 1 (32:21):
I have a question, h a chopper question. Chopper kind
of beams in on whatever.
Speaker 2 (32:28):
I don't know if you're talking about a watch or
whatever the hell, but he beams in and he goes
and Ezra goes storm Troopers.
Speaker 6 (32:37):
Yeah, no, you're conversant with that's the that's the new
drinking game, right. There's got be something where like suddenly
Ezra doesn't understand a lick of what Chopper is meeping,
and then you guys are having full on conversations back
and forth.
Speaker 1 (32:54):
So like, I don't know what the drinking game would be, but.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
Lingo when he doesn't wear his pajamas at night, he's
but okay, But it has to be that because in
the last episode they're like, try and find look at
a computer. It's a Chedi trick. I don't think it
works if he can look at a computer and go
through a list of thousands of names and be like, oh, yeah,
it's X ten or whatever writer's already thing was. You're
(33:20):
telling me that he can't just understand. That would make
no sense to me. Whoever this is at Lucas, That
that would be wild.
Speaker 1 (33:31):
Maybe language skills are different.
Speaker 6 (33:35):
Maybe like the Force doesn't afford you language skills, that
is wild. But if it does, that begs the question,
you know, like Sabbin being more sensitive in the future
and her linguistic skills and being a polyglot. Anyway, that's
a conversation for another day perhaps, but that will come up.
Speaker 7 (33:54):
That will And what is Ezra is do a lingo score?
It must be pretty often he can't.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Keep a streak alive, but he is a high score.
Speaker 7 (34:03):
I mean that's fair.
Speaker 4 (34:06):
Like the best of us. My Spanish is right there.
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Well, maybe one day we'll get melching on here because
he wrote this episode and maybe he'll he can shed
some light on it. And just like how Henry Goroy
was great enough to give us a little information on
the last episode, maybe maybe he'll have some inside baseball
for us in that respect. But yeah, you know, you
know who else understands a lot of languages. Hans Solo, Like,
when you think about it, he understands Wookie, he understands hotties,
(34:33):
he understands Rodian.
Speaker 4 (34:35):
I was like, it's kind of a pretty He does
he pick up on the droids?
Speaker 7 (34:39):
Yeah, right, he probably does, but maybe he chooses to
not like listen to them because that that's that's where
there's that's where the separation is, you know.
Speaker 4 (34:48):
And because I think humans aren't understanding it. So there
are like us as the audience at times that I
think that's where they go, like, well if the audience
isn't here, And that is the like Shakespearean aspect of
Star Wars, which I keep seeing more and more, is
like and this like in this episode, you see it
where like it is playing to an audience, but it's
also uh, this whole thing of image of like make
(35:11):
it seem like it's so bad. That's such a classic
thing in Shakespeare, Like Okay, I'm gonna act like you're
abducting me, and we're gonna make make it seem like
this is what's happening, so that it's like an obvious ploy,
you know what I mean, or even at the end,
I was surprised. I don't remember that. But like when
Lee is like shoot me, it's okay, like I give
(35:32):
you permission, and that is a sort of a fun
play to the audience as well at times.
Speaker 6 (35:41):
Yeah, it's like you're in on the audience is in
on the joke, and we're in on the secret.
Speaker 3 (35:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 7 (35:46):
Yeah, all the world to stage, yeah exactly. Yeah. And
then the way you stun her, it's the same circles
and everything from like a New Hope when Leah gets
stunned by the Stormtroopers.
Speaker 1 (35:57):
I don't know that.
Speaker 3 (35:58):
Yeah, So a.
Speaker 7 (36:00):
Lot of Original Trilogy DNA, which of course because Princess
Leah is like the staple of the Holy Trinity of
Star Wars, but Uh, well, I guess at this point,
speaking of Shakespeare, you know, to be or not to be,
are to fact or not the fact or other? That
is the question which JC you can.
Speaker 1 (36:20):
Answer to check or not to check to check.
Speaker 10 (36:25):
Okay, handful of things here. We talked about mispronouncing Denzil
Washington's name and several other people whose names were commonly mispronounced.
I wanted to point out Brendan Fraser, not Fraser.
Speaker 1 (36:40):
Is it Fraser?
Speaker 3 (36:42):
Fraser?
Speaker 1 (36:44):
Yeah, it is Fraser.
Speaker 10 (36:48):
Yeah, not the dude who hangs out at Cheers and
has a Seattle based talk show, Fraser. We talked about
Leya's age. Lea is fifteen, which is about the same
age as Ezra. I think Taylor you referenced as she
a lieutenant at this point.
Speaker 3 (37:06):
I don't think.
Speaker 10 (37:07):
I think that the lieutenant reference was to the imperial
because at this point she is an Imperial senator and
a rebel, but she's not part of the formal military
organization of it. And if we want to look ahead
to and Or, I don't know if at this point
there's actually is a formal military organization. I think our
(37:32):
rebels are kind of part of the bail organa faction
at this point that we come to learn more about
later on. We talked about some mojo between Ezra and Leah.
I just thought it would be cool if they did,
you know how they do like Marvel what If? Like
that cartoon? How cool would it be to do Star
(37:56):
Wars What if? And we got like, what if As
and Leah hit it off so well in Star Wars
rebels that what would have happened to the galaxy?
Speaker 1 (38:08):
Or like that would have been bad?
Speaker 4 (38:12):
Right?
Speaker 10 (38:14):
But also I wonder, you know, the other one that
I always loved was at the end of a New
Hope when Hans loading up his crates of money, he
says to Luke, like, you're pretty good on a fight.
Speaker 3 (38:26):
You could use it. Why don't you come with us?
Speaker 10 (38:28):
Like how cool would have been if Luke was like, yeah,
f this guy's this is a suicide mission. And it's
just Han and Luke gallivanting with Chewbacca across the galaxy
doing like shady deals and adventures, you know, like what
would happen if Padme didn't wear that leather course sit
on Naboo that night? Like where would the galaxy be?
(38:49):
Star Wars? What if?
Speaker 1 (38:52):
That's a whole podcast, the.
Speaker 6 (38:57):
What If as a follow up to you guys, as
a follow up to Auto.
Speaker 7 (39:02):
Rebellion, that's going to be the ultimate. He's like, you guys,
what if It's going to be the crossover guys kids,
and then you're gonna have a goonies podcast called Hey
you guys.
Speaker 4 (39:13):
Maybe that's like the YouTube version and this is where
I Trump shuffled.
Speaker 7 (39:19):
And that's the show.
Speaker 10 (39:19):
That's a lot of talk about Clancy Brown Era or
Ezra Wow. Taylor was saying that, Dave, you thought he
was referencing Highlander. I think we came around to that
Clancy is placed the Kurgan in Highlander. But the other
thing he was in that I would imagine Dave Filoni
(39:40):
loves his Buckerubontai.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
Oh, so he could have been that as well.
Speaker 4 (39:44):
Gotta be something I hadn't seen, that's all.
Speaker 3 (39:46):
I know. A lot of love for Colin Farrell and
the Penguin.
Speaker 10 (39:51):
I just wanted to put out there to the world
that I worked with Colin Farrell once for an afternoon
and he was the nicest, most genuine, down to earth celebrity,
like the top five that I've ever met, which is
crazy because you know, I mean, he was the biggest
of big at his peak and just totally was an awesome,
(40:14):
real dude when I worked with him a couple of
years ago.
Speaker 1 (40:17):
Wow, that's lovely to hear. I'm the number one fan,
so oh.
Speaker 3 (40:22):
He was so awesome.
Speaker 6 (40:25):
Let's get I would have to I would have to skip.
I would be like lubbering idiot more so than normal.
Shut up, Taylor.
Speaker 4 (40:38):
I just looked at your rectangle on the screen.
Speaker 1 (40:42):
I felt it. I felt it.
Speaker 10 (40:44):
There's a lot of talk on the internet about Leya's
age compared to Ezra and how she seems significantly older
in this than Ezra, but I just wanted to point out, like,
the maturity of Lea is one. Leya was raised as
a princess to become the person that she is becoming.
(41:07):
My wife pointed this out, which was when we were
a long time ago, when we were talking about favorite
female Star Wars characters. She loves jen Urso from Rogue one,
and I was like, why do you love jenn Erso
instead of Princess Leah? She was like, well, Leya was
raised to know the difference between right and wrong. Leah
(41:27):
was set on rails and pushed off on her path
not to negate anything that she does, but urso had
to learn and discover what was right and what was
wrong the hard way and had to be and was
tested throughout that. And as such that my wife was like,
(41:48):
that's more like what my journey has been to adulthood
than what Princess Leah's was. And I think that that
is applies here with Ezra, whereas like, you're watching this
and why does Leah seem like so buttoned up compared
to Ezra will I mean, Ezra was an orphan. He
didn't know, he was fighting to survive. You know, since
(42:11):
a very young age. Leah has been royalty. There's that
I also wanted to discuss again Leah and Ezra's I
don't remember the words you guys used or Taylor used,
but as buttoned up as Leah is, she does kiss
(42:31):
Luke eight minutes after meeting him on the Dusk Star.
She does kiss Luke again in Empire Strikes Back. She
then kisses Han coming out of Carbon Freeze someone who
loves You. Luke then kisses her at the end of
Return of the Jedi before Han shows up and gets jealous,
and then she kisses Han at the end of return
(42:51):
of the Jedi. So I'm not saying that Leah might
be a little bit have some repressed sexual energy, but
the evidence would say that at this point Ezra shows up.
He's dashing, he's dynamic, he's friends with a Jedi Knight.
Speaker 2 (43:12):
You know.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
Vanessa you pointed out.
Speaker 10 (43:22):
Which made me so happy, the storm stoopers say they're
taking prisoners. They do that now, which I felt was
the legitimately funny version of Podammarans they fly now, they
fly now.
Speaker 3 (43:39):
Ridiculous meme of Star Wars episode.
Speaker 10 (43:42):
Nine, John, you mentioned a lot of Empire strikes back callbacks.
The first thing I wanted to mention there are a
couple angles in this of the Walkers that felt like
they were pulled directly from McCrary concept art, so you
(44:03):
can rewatch the episode and then google the ad.
Speaker 3 (44:06):
At Walker McCrory artwork.
Speaker 10 (44:11):
But also, when Ryder is working with Chopper to release
the gravity locks, Ryder mentions the reverse power flux coupling,
which is the same thing that C three po barges
in on Lea and Han when they're kissing, which I
also forgot to mention, she kisses everybody. An Empire strikes
(44:34):
back CEE three Vo barges in and goes sir, sir,
I've isolated the reverse power cut, flux cuffling LEAs SLINKs
off and hunts like, thank you, thank you very much.
Same part Empire strikes Back, reference deck officer, the whole thing,
it all comes together. I will acknowledge in this episode
(44:57):
as canon that the Storm refers to it as an
at at. So perhaps I've shown my age and some
of Star Wars canon has pessed me by as I
still reference Kenner toy commercials. I guess things have been
retcon so I'll own that here still.
Speaker 7 (45:19):
And you're a defense jac what if that officer is
saying it wrong and they all gave him crap when
it gets like like wait, what did you say at
eight on the columns, Like what's that? So I'm just
saying to have your back instead of throwing strays, and
I'm going to have your back on that.
Speaker 4 (45:34):
I say, that's at so.
Speaker 3 (45:36):
I mean.
Speaker 6 (45:39):
Someone actually called it a four hundred and one K,
like you.
Speaker 1 (45:42):
Know there what you guys know.
Speaker 3 (45:47):
To reference Empire strikes Back, I owe you one.
Speaker 10 (45:54):
Although John you did mention uh Grido and Rodian, I
want to point out just for clarification, in the Clone Wars,
the character of Grido speaks Galactic Basic and knows Rodian. However,
in a New Hope, the language he's speaking is Hatiz. Interesting,
(46:15):
it is not Rodian.
Speaker 7 (46:18):
That would make sense because he was Jabo's like Harry
Boy for lack of a better term.
Speaker 10 (46:22):
Yeah, I feel like Hatiz is kind of like the
Spanish of the galaxy in that it is a prolific
language spoken by like as a second or first language
by like, if you're going to learn a language. I
feel like Hatiz is the one that they start teaching
(46:44):
in school in like fifth grade.
Speaker 1 (46:49):
Yeah, thanks JC.
Speaker 7 (46:50):
That tricks considering the hole that the huts have a galaxy. Yeah, okay, yeah,
I never thought of it like that. Well that changes everything,
you know.
Speaker 9 (47:00):
You guys, you guys that we have.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
I got im.
Speaker 1 (47:08):
Sorry, I didn't mean to jump the gun.
Speaker 3 (47:09):
I thought that you sensed it. I sensed it with
a force connection.
Speaker 1 (47:14):
That's right. Wait, one last thought.
Speaker 2 (47:18):
I just want to give a shout out to Ezra.
Speaker 1 (47:20):
When you say to Lea, watch this and.
Speaker 5 (47:23):
Then you go climb on the stormtrooper, you clock that
guy in the head so hard.
Speaker 1 (47:29):
You twirl around and it's like a bucking bronco. Yo.
You pummeled him, you got him on the ground.
Speaker 4 (47:34):
You were like, damn, it became like a UFC ground.
That was violent.
Speaker 5 (47:41):
I don't know that I've ever seen Ezra that I've
seen you like dance around and like dude, blue blue
not not you know that that wouldn't be the soundtrack.
But I'm saying I've seen you do agile, lovely things.
But this was like yo, w.
Speaker 1 (47:54):
E smack show.
Speaker 6 (47:57):
Yeah, you know Ezra, He's like watch then.
Speaker 7 (48:01):
A complicated grief. He had to let it. He was
letting all out out a lot of feelings. There was
a lot of stuff good.
Speaker 1 (48:08):
He was still an honor.
Speaker 7 (48:10):
That was brutal though, like because he kept going, because
it almost like went longer than you thought, Like it's
like that part in the Simpsons's like stop, he's already dead.
Speaker 3 (48:19):
That's what it felt, just saying, you guys, what if.
Speaker 7 (48:27):
That's what we're looking at. Just a bunch of storm
troopers going to beat up and on that note, or
you will see you all again next week. Thank you
as always for listening. Remember anyway, all you listening, you
can help us keep leveling out the podcast if you
leave us a five star rating, leave us a nice
review on Apple Podcasts, that does help the podcast. It's
(48:47):
not just something that goes into the void. Helped push
us on the algorithm. More people get to see the podcast,
which means we get to keep on going and maybe
do bigger things. So help us build. Just like Kevin
Costers what they will come.
Speaker 4 (49:00):
They're going to cancel rebels pretty much.
Speaker 7 (49:01):
Yeah, yeah, that's exactly it. So on that note, more
from our host, from you guys to send us out.
Speaker 4 (49:09):
Here cute the music.
