Speaker 1 (00:00):
I love being connected to fans on socials and sort
of there they post things like on my way to
the gym listening to the podcast, or hey, another episode
drops tomorrow and in real time we're you know, high
fiving each other, and so in a weird way, I
feel more connected to the fans.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
All right, welcome, welcome, everybody to our first of I
think many bonus episodes. This one is specifically for all
of you, the fans, the listeners, the reason that we
get to stay on the air. And of course I
am not here alone. We have the entire ghost crew
with us. And if we want to do our very
organized intros', let's just get into that real quick, or
(00:49):
not talk, or I can do the intros. I can say, Okay,
we have our fearless leader, our captain of the Ghosts.
She may be Specter two, but she's number one in
our hearts, Miss Vanessa Marshall, Hey.
Speaker 3 (01:02):
What's up?
Speaker 4 (01:03):
Hey?
Speaker 3 (01:03):
Everybody?
Speaker 2 (01:05):
Love it, love it, And we have our type A
of the group A for Allen iverson, Miss TiSER Car,
thank you.
Speaker 5 (01:11):
Thank you for recognizing that. Finally it's on the pod.
Speaker 2 (01:15):
Now it's the fact three times too. So they say,
say rule threes. That's beauty, right, of course, of course.
And we have our young padawan, well it's still young.
He's the youngling of the group, and I call him
Power Gray Skull Taylor Gray.
Speaker 4 (01:33):
Yeah, action, I'll take it powered Gray School.
Speaker 2 (01:37):
Power Gray School, some powerful stuff, my friend.
Speaker 5 (01:39):
I like that, John. I feel like we should stop
introducing ourselves and just.
Speaker 2 (01:43):
Have you do it that little starting lineup, maybe just
for the bonus episodes, because then maybe that incentivize people, like,
what's he going to say about the person this house?
Speaker 3 (01:54):
He's going to go?
Speaker 2 (01:55):
I know, Well, we have the man, the myth, the
legend who's going to join us for this thing too.
So it's not just the Ghost crew. We have another stowaway.
I think he has more right to be on the
Ghost than I do, because he's like the wizard who
knows all and he's gonna fact check us in real time.
Mister J.
Speaker 6 (02:10):
C Riefenberg, what you will learn today is why I
only have a small segment at the end.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
I think at this point we should just call you,
sir J. C Riefenberg. You're up there with Ale Ginnis
in terms of like the night Ship. I'm just gonna
bestow that I have no authority to do it other
than on the podcast, and I think majority rule, right.
I think we're.
Speaker 5 (02:29):
Allow Jedi knight.
Speaker 3 (02:34):
Nighting.
Speaker 6 (02:34):
I think that we're all good enough and experts in
Star Wars enough to bestow that honor.
Speaker 3 (02:40):
I don't know if like we could be like.
Speaker 2 (02:47):
Yeah, and jac just proved the point of he just
fact checked us in real time because I asked the
question and he's like, no, actually it's this so you
all see his brain just works that way and it's
just that awesome. So how are you all doing? This
is a so for our audience that isn't aware. We
record a lot of our episodes in advance. We'd like
to because we have variant schedules. We want to make
(03:08):
sure we never miss a beat when episodes actually have
to go live. This is our I guess, real time
reaction ish because the show is out there. We've been
absorbing at the last four weeks or so. And how's
everybody feeling now that we see you know, so much
love for the show and so much love for you
three and also Jase is a quick fan favorite too,
(03:28):
which I'm very happy about to Yes, how's everybody feeling about?
And now the show's out there because there was a
lot of anticipation before the show actually released.
Speaker 5 (03:38):
So good and honestly a pleasant surprise, if I'm being honest,
I feel like Taylor and I had some concerns before
we started, like I don't know, it's been like eleven
years since I mean, it's been, you know, a decade
since our show was on the air, and is anyone
going to listen to this thing? And so it's been
(03:59):
so wonderful to see, you know, people's reactions and that
people are engaged and excited and enjoying the podcast, which
you know, I think I can. I won't speak for
all of us, I'll speak for myself. I've been enjoying,
you know, doing it and having such a fun time
with you guys, and so the fact that people are
actually listening and enjoying it as well is is such
(04:23):
a treat. So thanks guys, thanks for listening to our
little podcast.
Speaker 7 (04:27):
Yeah, I'll say I second that I've really enjoyed watching
the show.
Speaker 4 (04:31):
I think the show is good.
Speaker 3 (04:35):
It's got legs.
Speaker 7 (04:36):
I think I think last a couple more seasons, but
I'm looking forward to where it's going. I watch it
with friends. It's sweet so that's it's been fun, but
it's also great talking with you guys. I'm really looking
forward to this episode we're doing right now because I
think it'll be fun to sort of hear what people
are saying. I always like a dialogue, and it's been
sweet us doing this. But it'll be fun because I'm
(04:57):
seeing like comments online and whatnot. I think it's gonna
be fun to open it up a bit. But I mean,
I've had a blast so far.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Absolutely, yeah, I agree. I know that we've had such
a great time traveling together, going to comic cons and
doing panels and you know, actually interacting with the fans.
Our family, chosen family if you will, hashtag Star Wars
family and all that. And so this is sort of
a way to bring the con to someone's home or car.
(05:27):
I've heard from people that they listen to it on
their commute, and you know, it's just such a fun
way for us to continue to all hang out together.
So that makes me really really happy, and I'm glad
that it's well received. I echo all their sentiments as well.
It's sort of a dream come true. Really a great
way to celebrate the ten year anniversary. So thank you.
Speaker 2 (05:47):
Everybody love that. Jase, how about you, man, because you've
been for those who don't know, and we need to
role this make it a social clip because there's so
much controversy. Maybe I'm making more of a controversy out
of it, but you were robbed on The Rosy O'donald
Show right before Phantom Menace came out because you won
that trivia contest. But then they somehow called it a
(06:07):
tie because they didn't want their guy to lose. But
you have a long history of knowing all things Star
Wars and like all of it, like most us and
a lot of our listeners were lifelong Star Wars fans.
So what's your experience been like seeing this podcast out
there and being behind the scenes and then seeing how
people are responding to you. How I had no doubt
they were going to respond the way they did, which
I'm so happy about.
Speaker 6 (06:28):
It's been really exciting because I encounter a lot of
people who watched me on The Rosie O'donnald show er
when I was on MTV's TRL, who were kids at
the time. I was in my early twenties when I
was on TRL, And I'll call out Alex from Star
Wars explained on YouTube. Who's like the trivia champion of
(06:51):
the Internet now. And everybody always says to me like, oh,
I want to see you go head to head with
this guy.
Speaker 3 (07:00):
But honestly, got truth. I'm forty four years old.
Speaker 6 (07:02):
I am too old to watch Star Wars rebels forty
times and memorize everything. I was really good when there
was like six Star Wars movies and that was it.
But as you know, I've gained responsibilities. I'm not as
sharp as I once was, which I know some people
are probably laughing at me saying that, but it's fun
(07:25):
to see like the new generation of kids show like
be like excited to hear me talk about Star Wars facts,
and I kind of feel like, just because we always
use sports analogies, I kind of feel like Jordan like
back on the court with Lebron and Lebron like looking
at me being like, oh, yeah, like you're not going
(07:47):
to beat me, but you can still play.
Speaker 3 (07:49):
Like this has given me a chance to like show
that it's still click Kobe.
Speaker 2 (07:55):
You know, Michael Jordan's going to hear that and take
it personally.
Speaker 5 (08:00):
Definitely listens to this.
Speaker 2 (08:01):
Podcast along with.
Speaker 3 (08:08):
Last Dance Season two will be like that guy.
Speaker 5 (08:13):
That guy wait, part of my ignorance, But can you
give us more information for those of us who don't
know about it, about the TRL thing and the Rosie thing.
Should I know this?
Speaker 6 (08:27):
I should know this, so I'll try to I'll try
to do it really quick. When I was a senior
in high school, the Phantom Menace trailer dropped in that November,
and I was so nuts about Star Wars for so
long that my friend and I started dressing his Jedi knights.
Go and went to high school and we dressed his
(08:47):
Jedi knights from the day the Star Wars Episode one
trailer dropped until graduation, and so I was like the
Star Wars kid in school. And then Rosio Donald had
done a Star Wars pre screening charity thing in Chicago
(09:07):
where I grew up. Also tidbit fact check. John and
I grew up in the same neighborhood outside of Chicago
with Sam whitwre with Sam.
Speaker 2 (09:15):
When we did, and we didn't know each other back then.
We didn't meet each other until out here.
Speaker 5 (09:19):
Wait, did y'all y'all go to like the same high
school or like rival high school?
Speaker 6 (09:24):
I went to Glenbrook North. Sam went to Glenbrook South
and John went.
Speaker 2 (09:29):
To Pelatine Frienden Peloton. Yeah yeah, within like thirteen twenty
minutes away from each other.
Speaker 3 (09:36):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
So I spent five hundred dollars, which was all the
money I had from like umpiring little league baseball games,
to buy a ticket to see Star Wars Episode one
the Sunday before it came out, which was May sixteenth.
And because my friends and I all dressed up and
went to this black tie charity premiere is Jedi, we
(09:59):
got interviewed and all this stuff. And I had been
watching ROSSI o'donald, who had been talking about her limo
driver knows everything about Star Wars, so I challenged him
to a trivia contest at her charity premiere, and she
flew my friend and I out and we did live
Star Wars trivia against her limo driver on the roso'
donald show.
Speaker 1 (10:22):
Yeah, I knew one that, So what's the controversy, y'all one?
Speaker 6 (10:29):
But so the controversy is that we got ten out
of ten and the limo driver got ten out of ten,
but he called Emperor Palpatine Palatine or Palatine or Paladin
or some some he like misspoke on it, and they
gave him the point. But eventually at the end of
(10:50):
the show it was I don't know if you guys remember,
but there was a big controversy where Tom Sellick went
on the Rosi o' donald show and she confronted him
about being a member of the NRA and it got
really tense, and then Tom Selik went and did Good
Morning America the next morning and it sparked this whole
gun control thing. Tom Selik was on after we were
(11:14):
That was the episode we were on. Wow, So it's
a very well known, like controversial episode we were on.
So they brought us back on at the end to
like break the tension, and we actually did end up
officially winning. In like the last thirty seconds. They gave
each of us one last question and I got mine
(11:34):
and my friend got his, and the limo driver got
it wrong.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
His question wrong.
Speaker 6 (11:38):
That's that's right, that's my Rosie O'Donnell story.
Speaker 5 (11:43):
When that's amazing. As a lifelong Jeopardy superfan, Palatin is
not going to be acceptable.
Speaker 4 (11:51):
No izy on it.
Speaker 5 (11:53):
I'm pretty what kind of Star Wars super fan can
you be? He just make a mistake. He just missed it.
Speaker 6 (12:01):
I think he just misspoke because he was nervous. But
I mean, you know, I love Jeopardy as well, Like
if you misspeak, it doesn't it.
Speaker 5 (12:08):
Doesn't matter, it doesn't cut it.
Speaker 3 (12:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
Wow, that's amazing.
Speaker 3 (12:12):
So I did that.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
And then in two thousand and four, the week before
Star Wars was at least on DVD, I was on
TRL doing a Star Wars trivia contest with Carson Daley
Oh my god, which I won a trip to Skywalker
Ranch and went and saw Revenge of the Sith at
the Stag Theater there on May fifth, two thousand and five,
(12:37):
three weeks before it came out.
Speaker 5 (12:39):
Oh my god.
Speaker 2 (12:40):
Wow, And we're in the anniversary here for Revenge of
the Sith. It's here, which is pretty crazy. So that's
full circle. And you know, it's a wild thought because
as social media existed and like TikTok existed back then, Jac,
you would have had so many influencer deals from those
two experiences alone. So it's it's how much that culture
has changed from when you were, like when the prequels
(13:02):
are coming out versus now where there's legitimate Star Wars
influencers out there like that are making a living doing it?
So JC did it first?
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Yeah, hashtag JC did it first. I watched probably every
single episode of t RL when Carson Daily was the
host because that's I was that demographic. So I probably
watched that episode it was we had.
Speaker 6 (13:25):
It was when Nelly had the two albums Drop, Sweat
and Suit. It was that week and I think I'm
trying to remember they had me announce the number one song.
Speaker 3 (13:37):
I don't remember who it.
Speaker 2 (13:38):
Was that week, Country Grammar or something like that.
Speaker 3 (13:42):
Yeah, Ashley Simpson was up there. Actually, Simpson was like.
Speaker 4 (13:45):
Curry favor with the young folk, who's Nelly? Dare you?
And I know Nelly was my ringtone in middle school.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
He was all of our ring tones.
Speaker 3 (13:59):
This was two thousand and in four, So Taylor, you
would have been like.
Speaker 5 (14:02):
Oh no, I wasn't born, Yes exactly, I was.
Speaker 3 (14:08):
I'm wrong.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
I was mistaken. I would have been in preschool, so
maybe I wow.
Speaker 2 (14:16):
Awesome. So one more thing, like how are you feeling?
I know we've touched on it on the on the episodes,
on the recap episodes, but how has seen the reception
and the sustained love for rebels almost changed your experience
rewatching the show.
Speaker 5 (14:30):
For me, I think, so Taylor's just watching, not rewatching.
Speaker 6 (14:40):
For me.
Speaker 5 (14:41):
Like, I haven't watched these episodes since the first time
I watched them when day air and so, And of
course that time, at that time, we were still making
the show. It was still you know, so like watching
it was so much fresher and more recent, and we
were still creating the show and we were still like
(15:02):
living in these characters. So watching those episodes was very
different than now where it's been ten years and you know,
we have continued our relationships, you know, amongst us the cast,
and so it's kind of it's more like I don't know,
like I know, I keep saying a trip down memory lane,
(15:23):
but almost like I'm just able to watch as a
fan now rather than like, okay performance wise and oh okay,
you know, like I'm not dissecting as much. I'm just
able to like sit back and enjoy and watch the
show for what it is, rather than like really being
too nitpicky about my stuff or you know, or or
(15:47):
almost like the first time I watched these episodes, I
was kind of watching between you know, like.
Speaker 3 (15:50):
Like oh, like, what are we doing?
Speaker 2 (15:53):
Is it okay?
Speaker 5 (15:54):
Are people gonna like it? And now it's like, I'm
just enjoying the show, which is great, It's fun.
Speaker 4 (16:00):
Sorry, go go for nothing.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
Well.
Speaker 1 (16:05):
I love being connected to fans on socials and sort
of there they post things like on my way to
the gym, listening to the podcast, or hey, another episode
drops tomorrow and in real time we're you know, high
fiving each other. And so in a weird way, I
feel more connected to the fans than previous to this,
(16:25):
where you know, sure we would you know, post silly
things and say hey and whatnot. And I know we've
talked about wanting to have different cause players and subac
players and this and that, and we will, but it's
it really is a bonus in my day to get.
Speaker 3 (16:40):
These incredible nodes. I mean they go to a lot
of trouble.
Speaker 1 (16:43):
I mean, Tea is like an expert in Instagram posts
like if it's your birthday, you're going to get like
the most biblical birthday wish, Like you're amazing you find
these pictures of us. I don't even know where they
came from. I'm like, oh my gosh, I actually look
good in that picture. Wow.
Speaker 3 (16:56):
You know, you say the.
Speaker 5 (16:58):
Kindest things we're supposed to no, I know, you.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
Know, no, no, well there's a few there are definitely,
and whatever, it doesn't matter there there the camera's a
tricky tool there. But but but my point is like
it takes a lot of time and attention and care
to create these things, and it's also fun to to
you know, put little I don't know, I enjoy social
media and creating things and sending fun things to people.
(17:24):
But it means the world to me because you know,
back in the day last year, this was just an idea,
and you know, we weren't even sure, like they were
saying if if anyone would even you know, want to
listen to us anymore. But I just had this notion
that the hashtag Star Wars family was not just a theory,
that it that it's quite real, and that this would
(17:45):
be a great way for us to all hang out
together again. And that is, in fact what seems to
be happening. And that's very gratifying, as if to say,
like I knew, I knew we had something, and I
wasn't crazy. You know, it's an affirmation that our bonds
are are quite real and that they extend beyond just
the cast out into the fans, so it's really lovely.
(18:07):
It's made it more fun to watch again, to be
able to share that, you know, when the episodes air
with fans, it's nice to know that we are all
rewatching and we all are sort of celebrating everything together.
It's really it's just wonderful soul food.
Speaker 7 (18:24):
Really, Taylor, Yeah, still got nothing, all right, good talk,
good hustle. I gotta keep it light. It's been fun.
I mean, I love how much the fans love our characters.
It's kind of mind blowing. I had read from someone
They said that they listen every day on their way
(18:45):
to work, and.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
I was like, wow, I hope you do get sick
of our voices.
Speaker 7 (18:49):
But at the same time, they were saying that they
just love like they're likely going to sleep with rebels
on It's like a comfort thing, which I completely understand
that I have that feeling towards certain things, and so
it's really sweet. I'm like, let's get you more upsotes
so we can hear some of new stuff. But it's
it's been really fun and it's cool to know that
we have so much.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
More to talk about. I'm looking forward to.
Speaker 2 (19:12):
Yeah, I love it.
Speaker 3 (19:13):
Can I tell you guys.
Speaker 6 (19:14):
Can I tell you guys a fun story because I
met all of you guys when I was brought into
this podcast. For the most part, I've probably cross paths
here or there, but really like we didn't know each other.
So I'm coming to this wholly as a fan, somebody
who wholly experienced all of this stuff in real time
as a fan. And my nephew is fifteen or sixteen
(19:40):
years old or not my nephew, sorry, my cousin is
fifteen or sixteen years old right now. And his entry
point to Star Wars when he was like six or
seven was Clone Wars and Rebels. And you know, I
was talking to him like five or six years ago,
and his whole thing is Star Wars animated like Ezra
(20:01):
the way that I feel about Luke Skywalker, he feels
about Ezra, you know, the way that I feel about
Princess Leia. He feels about Sabine and you know, all
of these characters. And so I asked him, uh, oh,
that's really cool, Like do you know you know George
Lucas And he's like who, And he's I was, like
(20:23):
the guy who created Star Wars. He goes Dave Filoni.
So there's an entire generation of Star Wars kids who
are now growing up, and you guys are there their people.
It's not it's not like us who are older who
(20:43):
grew up with the original trilogy or even the prequel trilogy.
Those your characters, you guys, your voices are what they
hear first before they go to the movies, and it's
really neat to have experienced that and see that. Now
get to listen to you guys and get to hear
from those fans who are now have aged up. Get
(21:07):
to hear what it was like for the real people,
because you guys were just those people when they were kids,
and now that they're they're adults, are becoming adults. To
hear your guys' voices talk about what it was like
informs their experience watching the show so much more.
Speaker 3 (21:25):
It's so cool. It's really cool, you guys.
Speaker 5 (21:28):
Thanks Jace. That's really that's amazing for sharing that. Also,
I mean I've heard a lot I've heard at like
cons and things that people say, oh, you know, rebels,
either either young people saying rebels was my entry point
into Star Wars or like parents saying, like my kid
that that's how I introduced my kids to Star Wars
(21:49):
is through Rebels, which is really, you know, meaningful, but
for you to put it in terms of, like, you know,
there there Luke Skywalker is Ezra, or there Lea is
to be in her Hara is like that kind of
puts it in a whole different sort of perspective for me.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
Yeah, and thank you all for sharing that. And also
it's it's a gift to see you all experience and
see what the fans have been seeing all this time,
which I know it's hard to do when you lived
it and when your main focus is making sure you
do justice to the work and justice to the writing.
But that's how I I'm not saying I'm prophetic or anything.
I knew it was going to take off because I
(22:29):
knew what the fans see because I am a fan
and I still watch Rebels, and I did a rewatch
of Clone Wars before we did this podcast so I
can get caught the speed. I rewatched bad Batch and
all this stuff, and I see what the response is
on social media whenever I mentioned Rebels, and it's a
lot of actors don't get to see that that their
show is beloved, their work is beloved, it is appreciated,
(22:50):
and I'm glad that you're all seeing that, and and
I think that's what's really going to give this podcast
a lot of a lot of legs because you can
absorb that and just know that your work mattered to people.
It wasn't just good work, it was stuff that people
take home with them, which we're about to find out
as we get into some of these these emails.
Speaker 4 (23:07):
And thank your experience.
Speaker 2 (23:11):
Fan of the John, you know, it's it's a chance
to hang out with you all, which is always fun
because you know, we're in a time where, uh, we
don't get to see As you get older, you don't
get to see your friends as often, whether it's they're
getting married, they're happing kids, and you know, careers take off,
which is what we want. So tma By on a movie,
I an smba band movie, Taylor's on a movie, I
(23:33):
may be on some Jc's on something. But we had
this centralized place where we know we'll see each other
and then we get to just rewatch a really awesome
Star Wars show. And it's been fun for me because
you know, I'm behind the scenes with JC, so I
get to put a lot of the episodes together, we
get to talk about what the social clips are going
to be, or how do we how do I write
(23:53):
the description for Apple Podcasts and stuff like that, or
how do I write the recaps? And you know, it's
it's just a fun creative thing and just it's been
fun just getting to know you all better, uh through
it all. So that's been my experience. It's been a
lot of fun.
Speaker 1 (24:05):
Well, thank you for all you do and have done,
both of you.
Speaker 5 (24:09):
Yeah, truly, thank you, so the first from Taylor and
so well.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
But first we are going to take a quick break
so we can get a little word from our our
sponsors like Aven Newsom maybe not, I don't know if Gavin.
But we'll be right back. But don't go anywhere because
when we come back, we are going to be answering
your questions. Stick around and welcome back. We are here
and as promise at the top of the show. Don't worry,
(24:37):
we didn't forget. We just wanted to do a little
check in at the top. We're going to be answering
your questions. Remember, you can write to us Potter Rebellion
Podcasts at gmail dot com. We've kind a lot of
great questions, a lot of great emails. We're going to
try to get to as many as we can today.
Like I said, this is the first and many bonus episodes,
so we will do more when we answer your questions
and maybe in the future. And I feel like the
(24:58):
group would be with me on this, maybe we'll bring
on a couple of fans so they can ask us themselves,
join us on our little zoom meeting and give him
a little FaceTime with you all. I think that could
be a fun thing to make this the all inclusive
podcast you wanted to be.
Speaker 1 (25:11):
For sure wonderful.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
All right, so let's get started. This is the first
email we ever got, so I wanted to. It's not
a question, it's just a very nice email that we
got from Jace Rocca. So when we published that we
had an email available, I got a whole flood of
emails coming in and this is the first one from Jace.
I became a Rebels fan later in twenty twenty, but
it has become my favorite show of all time. My
(25:35):
younger brother told me about it when he was about
midway through season two on Disney Plus. I got through
the whole show before he was even close to finishing it.
I loved the character so much, with Hara being my favorite.
Just a few weeks ago, I made my girlfriend watch
it since she is a Star Wars fan as well,
and we all caps sobbed through so many episodes. Thank
(25:56):
you guys for providing such amazing performances for these characters.
Speaker 5 (26:00):
Oh my gosh, that's awesome. His name is Jace, Jace. Yeah,
come on, thanks Jays, that's so sweet.
Speaker 3 (26:08):
I love it.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
At the high yeah, I was like, wow, I don't
even want to see these other emails, Like we're.
Speaker 1 (26:14):
All caps sobbing listening.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Thank you, so thank you, Jace Roca uh so, next one,
Garrett Robertson says Indiana Comic Con Taylor talked about his
experience meeting James Earl Jones. I was wondering, what's been
the coolest or most interesting experience you guys have had
with a fellow Star Wars actor.
Speaker 5 (26:35):
Okay, I have two, Okay, I have two. One is
that I was at Jimmy Kimmel's Oscars after party one
year and I brought my sister as my guest. She
came flew in and was my guest for this party,
(26:56):
and we were leaving the party and Mark Hamill was
walking out right in front of us by himself, and
my sister Prio was like, you know, elbowing me and
was like do you you have to talk to him?
And I was like, no way, Like I am just
not a person that approaches people that I'm like a
(27:19):
fan of or whatever. I just don't want to bother anybody.
And I'm just too embarrassed. And she was like, you're
on Star Wars. It's not like you're some you know,
like just random person like you are a do you
play a Star Wars character? He plays the Star Wars character,
Like you must talk to him. And I was like, so,
I was just mortified. And she kind of like kind
(27:42):
of like Taylor when he encouraged me to talk to
James Song about the movie that we didn't Thiland. So
I worked up the courage and I went and I
talked to him and I was like, hi, mister Hammill,
I'm tsur Car right boys Sabine Wren on Star Wars
Rebels and we were sort of walking out of the
park together, and he was very gracious and very kind,
(28:02):
and I'm just like such a fan of his as
an actor who played Luke Skywalker, but also even more
so now who he is as a public persona and
what he speaks out on, what he's like willing to
sort of take a stance on publicly. I just admire
that so much and admire him so much. And then
(28:23):
my second one is way way back in the day.
I think this was our first Star Wars celebration that
we ever went to and signed autographs at. I think
that was the first time I'd ever signed at a
convention before. And Carrie Fisher was after you're done signing,
(28:45):
you sort of go back in this green room and
you sort of sign out and kind of it's like
some housekeeping stuff that has to happen. And she had
her dog, Gary Fisher, who a lot of these fans
probably are familiar with, and uh, I just I just
remember being like totally incomplete awe. I was like frozen
(29:10):
because Carrie Fisher was just right in front of me,
and I just have a really vivid memory of Gary
Fisher peeing in the middle of the floor. There was
like pandemonium. There was like hundreds of people in this
green room and Gary Fisher had a little accident and
she was like somebody cleaned this up anyway. I was like,
oh my god, the Queen, the princess, but the Queen herself,
(29:34):
Carrie and Gary Fisher right in front of me, and
I was just like frozen in uh not fear, but
just like in awe and amazement. So those are my
two big like fan I mean as a fan of
these people. Like I was sort of like, I can't
believe I'm in the presence of greatness.
Speaker 2 (29:50):
How about you, Taylor, do you want to speak more
than James Earl Jones or was there another story?
Speaker 7 (29:54):
Well, key, we'll move it back to Actually, I as
to you say, my memory is so bad, but I'm
thinking of Mark Hamill. How I first met Mark Hambell
and Kery Fisher are both because of their children. I
was with Kerriy Fisher before I think I'd done Star
Wars because my best friend, one of my best friends
in the world, Hudson Tames, that's his like aunt. So
(30:17):
I was over at their house and she was there,
and I remember being like, oh, I did just get
a Star Wars show.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
I wonder if I should mention that, but I did it,
of course.
Speaker 7 (30:27):
And then I remember seeing her at a couple of
convention or celebrations later on and talking to her about
it then. But the funny one with Mark Hamill. I
remember we were at what were they called in Florida
Star Wars weekends that we would do.
Speaker 4 (30:45):
You'd go out there.
Speaker 7 (30:45):
It was really fun and we met a lot of
fans before our show was even out, but they would go.
We would go out in chunks, so like none of
us went together. We each had like an individual weekend,
but there were other people in the Star Wars universe,
and they had paired me up with Mark Hamill going
out there and you would do it preyed and different things. Well,
I didn't know his daughter was his daughter, and I've
known her for a long time. So she there and
(31:08):
I was like, why is Chelsea here at Star Wars?
Like I didn't know any of this put together, and
we're having a conversation and she came up and he
was like, why do you know my daughter?
Speaker 4 (31:19):
And I was like, that's just like friend groups in LA.
Speaker 7 (31:22):
So both of these instances with Mark and Carrie were
through like family members that we've known, and it was
kind of sweet to be like, Okay, we must be
somehow in the right place. Because the little signs are
popping up that were connected to Star Wars, even if
I hadn't seen it all yet.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
So six degrees of Taylor Green said of Kevin Bacon,
is what you're saying.
Speaker 4 (31:43):
Yes or just yeah? Friends in La.
Speaker 1 (31:49):
Well, I have a couple, and I'm trying to figure
out which, and I've talked about a couple of them.
I know when I went to Star Wars weekends here,
Mayhew was there and my first action figure was Chewy
and currently off card. Don't judge, but yeah, it's it's
upstairs in my Star Wars room, which is a deal
(32:12):
breaker if you don't like the room.
Speaker 3 (32:13):
I'm like, I can't be friends.
Speaker 1 (32:17):
No, no, no, oh, I wish I could take the
camera upstairs and show you.
Speaker 3 (32:23):
Well.
Speaker 1 (32:23):
Still, my deck is finally finished at my house, so
the standing invite for Chilean SeaBASS on my deck, especially
now that the Greek Theater is functioning, not to dos
myself good luck. I don't really care. No, if no
one cares, No, We're all good. We're on planet Earth still,
(32:44):
I think. But yeah, So I just remember I grew
up in the industry, and I like now Chas Bono
and I used to hang out at events, like what
are we doing here?
Speaker 5 (32:58):
You know?
Speaker 1 (32:58):
Herman there a share. My mom is Joan van Ark,
like I've grown up in the industry like a bunch
of like being in the Santa Claus Parade. Someone sent
me a picture of me on a float, going like,
oh god, you.
Speaker 3 (33:11):
Know, so I never know.
Speaker 1 (33:14):
I've always been sort of around people in the public
eye and always respectful of their personal space and never
I also don't go nuts and say anything to them.
But I realized sort of on day two of Star
Wars Weekends that I might actually be being rude to
Peter Mayhew giving him his personal space, like I'm not
even acknowledging him as a human being. But I also
(33:34):
every time I looked in his eyes, I saw chewy
and started shaking. So I didn't want a fan girl out.
I just was just trying to be quiet. And then eventually,
I think by the end of the weekend, I became
close friends with his wife, and I met him and
it was just such a lovely integration of my childhood
(33:57):
my favorite action figure, and he was so kind and
so lovely, And I learned something from that is that
sometimes overcompensating if you're in the room with someone who's
in the public eye, you can actually be almost inhumane.
So anyway, it's a fine balance. A similar thing happened
with Billy d Williams. I was so excited in the
(34:17):
episode where I get to punch him Harrah punches him,
that I thought, oh my gosh, this is going to
be a dream come true. And tangentially, I was fighting
with an MMA fighter. I've been doing martial arts for
a billion years before you were born, probably, But anyway,
he was very good friends with Ron Peerlman and all
(34:39):
these people who I worked out with at the gym,
and so they were always talking about his art work
and saying, oh, we'll tell him there's some green character
that we work out with. And I was like, yeah, yeah, whatever, dude,
not thinking Billy de Williams to be like interested in
any of this, but I thought when I got to
punch him in the episode, at least I would act
opposite him, or that dream would be realized. I love Lando. No,
(35:03):
it didn't happen. He was in Dancing with the Stars.
But eventually James Arnold Taylor convinced me at the Chicago
Celebration twenty nineteen, I believe he said, no, come on,
you have to come meet him, and I finally did,
and he was so gracious and lovely, as is the
case with everyone in the Star Wars universe, and I
(35:26):
almost didn't want to meet him. You know, they say,
don't meet your heroes. I was so shy I didn't
even I don't know anyway, It's just weird. It's just
such a fine line. You want to be respectful, but
you don't want to be rude. But luckily, in both instances,
it was just a really sweet experience.
Speaker 3 (35:45):
So I'm grateful for both of those.
Speaker 2 (35:48):
I love that. Jason. I'd be curious to hear your
story as well, because you've been so adjacent to Star
Wars for so long, and I'm sure you've met people
within that world too, and I feel like you have
a story and I would love to hear from you too.
Speaker 3 (36:00):
Well.
Speaker 6 (36:01):
My Mark Hamill's story is very, very different. I used
to work at a comic book shop in Times Square
called Midtown Comics, which is the biggest comic book shop
in the world by volume. And Mark Hamill in two
thousand and three or two thousand and four was doing
(36:21):
an off Broadway play and he used to come in
right before we'd close on like Thursday nights and shop
for comic books, and so I would get to walk
around the store with the little step stool and help
him get comic books off the top shelf. So that
(36:42):
was you know, it happened three or four times, and
that was so cool because for me, again, like Luke
Skywalker is my character the way that Vanessa loves Chewie,
I love Luke Skywalker. Just getting like a quiet, non
fan moment where I got to get to know Mark
Hamill is like a consumer of geek media was really
(37:09):
really special. And then kind of my other big thing
was I did a Star Wars fan film once upon
a Time called Hughes the Force, which was John Hughes
meets Star Wars or if you're familiar with the plot
of Weird Science, they use a Barbie doll to create
(37:32):
this woman who has magic powers and through a series
of high jinks, teaches them self confidence to make it
through high school. And my thing was always what if
that was the Hutslayer leya action, Like if you were
a nerd today, that would be a Hutslayer Layer action.
Figure out a Barbie doll, and so I wrote a
(37:54):
little thirty minute fan film, and I bumped into James
Arnold Taylor at a Clone Wars screening at the Egyptian.
I just mentioned how much I loved his Obi Wan
Kenoby and we traded information, and he played Obi Wan
Kenobi in my little fan film, which kind of like
(38:15):
got me into the world of actually communicating and being
friendly with Star Wars actors, and so that was my
other kind of way in Catherine Tabor. Also, he brought
Catherine Tabor into play padme, which was really cool. So
those those are my Star Wars, like my special Star
(38:38):
Wars kind of celebrity stories.
Speaker 2 (38:40):
That's great, man. We should post those clips from He
was the force on our on our social so people
can see because you have a lot. Again, you have
a very deep and rich history of being close to
Star Wars. And you know, I don't know how it
is now, but I know back in the day, Lucasfilm
would Lucas would encourage you to make fan films. I
don't know how it is now, but I know back
in the day, George like, yeah, make the films. I
would love to see your interpretation of this character at
(39:04):
this point in time, whether it's before or after the
Battle of Yabn And that's cool. You got to do
that and combined the Chicagoist at John Hughes, which is
very much what you bring into it. I love that
you all have Mark Hamill starts. I've never met Mark.
I have met Harrison Ford. He was the first celebrity
I ever met. When to move to LA And I'll
try to tell this story really quick because we had
(39:25):
a lot of questions here. But it's a funny story.
Speaker 3 (39:27):
Like I was.
Speaker 2 (39:27):
I was like in Venice Beach and I just see
this guy in the distance wearing these aviator glasses and
shaking one of those to go sound boxes, like really vigorously,
Like Wow, that guy really likes his balsamic vinagrett or
whatever he's doing. And it looks close, like, oh my god.
It's Harrison Ford. And I'm new, you know, I just
moved here. Nobody tells me don't approach celebrities in the wild.
(39:49):
I'm like, well, Harrison's from Chicago, Like that's my way in.
It's like, hey, hey, how's it going. He kind of
just looks at me. And for those who haven't met
Harrison Ford, unless he has to, he doesn't really use
words I was like, hey, I'm mister for you know,
I'm actually from Chicago. I grew up in Palatine. It's
not far from Park Ridge. My aunt and uncle Lither's like,
oh okay, and then you know, I was like, you know,
(40:13):
I don't want to take up mount of your time.
I'm so starstruck and I'm nervous and everything, but have
a great day, mister FORDI you don't know, you don't
have to call me mister. And I'm like, oh, and
me being me, you with the conventional thinking is oh
call him Harrison. That's what he's saying. You're in I
was like, oh okay, mister Smith. And he kind of
(40:35):
looked reacted the way everyone reacted here, and he goes, yeah, sure,
And that was it. That was my Harrison sports story.
That's and that's all I needed. If I never see
him again, I hope I do get to see him again.
I guarantee he will not remember in that moment. I
have a pretty great Harrison.
Speaker 5 (40:54):
It's a great story.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Yeah. Yeah, He's very like, yeah, sure, it takes all
sorts of go, but yeah, let's go to the sorry what.
Speaker 5 (41:04):
That's a good Harrison Ford as well also just I
just want to be friends with Harrison Ford so badly. Hey,
I'm just gonna admit it. I watch him on Shrinking
and I'm like, Oh, that dude is the coolest. Not
that I didn't know that for the decades of coolness
in you know as Indie and you know Han Solo,
(41:25):
but man, he's just the coolest, the.
Speaker 2 (41:27):
Coolest, the king of giving no fs, that's what I
call him. I'm trying to keep a family friendly here.
You all know what I mean. If you don't know
what is an f uh, that's what it is. I
leap myself out. Next one is from j Flanagin, who as,
are there any scenes or dialogue that were film slash
recorded that were cut out due to pacing or episode
(41:49):
length that you wish would have made it into a
particular episode. So I know this may be a big
ass because you're going back and think the arcs of
ten years, but it's an interesting question on this.
Speaker 7 (41:57):
This is a really good question because on every project
virtually stuff is cut, and it's like, that's so common.
But I'm now just going to basically spin this round
and send it back to Vanessa and Tia. I can't
think of anything I mean we would improvise every now
and then, with like the encouragement of Filoni, Like he
would sometimes be like yeah, like if that doesn't feel right,
(42:19):
go for it. Or at the end, Steve was Steve
was very famous for putting uh, we'll say, buttons on scenes,
and so that didn't make it in. But I don't
know of anything that was cut to you guys, no,
I mean.
Speaker 5 (42:32):
Yeah, what you're saying, like Steve's embellishments, let's call them.
Those would not always make it, but they were just
I mean mostly he was just doing that to be
funny and to make us laugh, which always always worked.
But yeah, I don't think he had any intention or
expectation that those things were going to make it to
the final cut. But no, I think I think everything
that was scripted was we recorded and was used. Like
(42:55):
there was no fluff, There was no like extra stuff.
It's not like shooting a show or a film where
you're shooting a lot and then it gets cut down
in the editing room. I feel like what was written,
we recorded, and that ended up in the final cut.
Speaker 3 (43:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (43:12):
I can't think of a single thing that wasn't in
the final I think it was all very I mean,
I don't believe there was anything cut.
Speaker 7 (43:22):
Yeah, testament to the writers and everything. They knew what
they were gonna do the whole time. Although to that question,
we did go back in like record, we would pick
stuff up, so we would do our recording session, and
then they would send it off to animate it. Because
they didn't animate it before, they would have like cameras
on it, so they would send it to get animated,
and what two months.
Speaker 4 (43:40):
Later from our original cord maybe or three.
Speaker 7 (43:42):
Months we would do a pick up on that episode
and say, say the dialogue, we were closer in the
frame than they initially thought. We might like quiet it
down or say something was sped up and they needed
to move on to the next frame. We would do
little adjustments there, but I don't remember anything being cut.
Speaker 5 (43:59):
Yeah, yeah, that's it. You've just reminded me of that
that like, oh, actually he's falling, so we're going to
need Ezra to get falling as he screams this line,
rather than when we you know, initially did it and
we thought that the two people were in the room
or whatever. So yeah, they were like tweaks and adjustments made,
but nothing cut. I can't remember.
Speaker 3 (44:19):
All right.
Speaker 2 (44:20):
Next one is from Victoria Taylor. You get a two
in one. She has a very nice message and then
she has an interesting question. So she says, Hi, y'all,
Rebels is my favorite piece of Star Wars media. It
truly changed my life, and I just wanted to thank
you all for being part of what makes the Ghost
Cruise story so special. Also wanted to say, Sabine is
my favorite Star Wars character, and I'll bewaring a Sabine
(44:40):
Disney Bound for Star Wars celebration this year. I love you,
Tiah five esclamation points, three purple hearts.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
Wow, thank you.
Speaker 5 (44:50):
Wait, tell me her name again.
Speaker 2 (44:51):
Victoria Taylor, who is Jedi Knight Victoria on Instagram.
Speaker 5 (44:55):
Thank you, Victoria. That means so much and I really
appreciate it, and many many purple hearts back to you.
Speaker 2 (45:02):
Love that. And her question was how to each of
y'all personally relate to your Rebels character?
Speaker 7 (45:08):
Yeah, I think listening to this podcast, people will see
so clearly how much we are. I'm reminded, especially like
I know Vanessa and to you so well and closely, like,
oh yeah, we really are more similar to these characters
than I thought, because I always kind of was like, yeah,
(45:30):
I guess, but we're like every character, and no, everyone
is very similar to their character and so like specific things.
I mean, I think the last however many episodes we've
put out of the podcast will show but I don't
really want to go along with anything that's normal or
what everyone else is doing. I'm going to turn and
sort of sprint the other way as quickly as possible.
(45:51):
So that feels like Ezra in a bit of a nutshell.
Speaker 5 (45:56):
I was going to say the word I mean, not
that you're the question isn't for other people to talk
about it, but irreverence comes to mind, and like and
like cockiness is such a has such a negative No, no, no,
I'm saying it has such a negative connotation. But sort
of like, gosh, what's a what's a positive word? That
(46:21):
a synonym for coult?
Speaker 4 (46:24):
What comfortability?
Speaker 5 (46:26):
No, just sort of like a like a like a
confident or like knowing oneself and like a confident an
ease and confidence in yourself and like not needing to
sort of like I think I'm just echoing what you
just said. You don't need to like be something else
to please another person, like you are you and I
(46:49):
feel like that's that's so Ezra, right, Like Ezra's just Ezra,
and he's going to be Ezra in any situation. He
doesn't sort of conform to others expectations.
Speaker 4 (46:58):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (46:58):
Does that sound right to the the rest of you?
Vanessa does that?
Speaker 3 (47:01):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (47:01):
That sounds completely right. He's one hundred percent Jedi all day,
all day. Yeah, that's been my experience as I've gotten
to know you, Taylor. You have a wisdom that is
so impressive. And I think I sent you a text
the other day thank you for being so solid.
Speaker 3 (47:17):
That's what you are.
Speaker 1 (47:17):
You're solid.
Speaker 3 (47:18):
You know.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
I appreciate this, guys. I should have made answer you.
Speaker 3 (47:22):
Guys.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
I thought it was about everyone in their care.
Speaker 1 (47:25):
It was.
Speaker 5 (47:25):
It was we went off on a tangent.
Speaker 3 (47:28):
I mean, I definitely I'm Space mom.
Speaker 1 (47:30):
And originally Harah hadn't birthed anything, so she was, you know,
very nurturing without having had any children. So I suppose
I'm I'm Harah episodes or Sorry, Seasons one through three
as someone who does not have actual children. But I
do love making sure that everyone is okay. I think
(47:52):
Harah has all the best parts of me, and I
have a few that I would like to just be
only like Haraa. You know, my humanity sometimes drives me crazy,
and I always think to myself sometimes what would Freddie do?
But also, you know, because that guy please Lebron. But
I definitely I can sometimes be sensitive or overthink things.
(48:15):
And that's what I really learned from Harah is her
ability to prioritize, to.
Speaker 3 (48:22):
Stay focused and not let.
Speaker 1 (48:24):
The small things, you know, get her sidetracked, including her
relationship with Canaan. But but anyway, yeah, I feel like
that those are the best parts of me, and I
brought those to the microphone and I try to linger
in that place. And sometimes it takes extra remembering or
(48:44):
even forgetting to just let the best parts, you know,
push me through the day as opposed to you know,
human fears. And I think we all deal with that.
But yeah, there's one actor, Rob Paulson, who every time
he steps up to the microphone, he says a prayer
to get out of well, he said, excuse me to
(49:05):
get out of God's way. What he meant was his
God given talent for atheists in the room, you know, whatever,
that is his highest self. But I think there's something
to be said for getting the ego out of things
and just being of service. So I love that Harah
so effortlessly does that, and I admire it and hope
(49:27):
to do more of the same.
Speaker 5 (49:30):
It's so easy for me to I think it's harder
for me to like find the or maybe yeah, like
to recognize the things that are similar in Sabine and myself.
But it's so easy for me to like look at
each of you because we know each other so well
and have for such a long time. The you that
(49:52):
you bring to Hara and the you Taylor that you
bring to Ezra, and that you guys are I mean
truly like if we plopped each of you, Vanessa Marshall
and Taylor Gray into these situations, just plopped you on Lothal,
you would be as and you would be Haarah. And
same goes certainly for Freddy. But oddly enough to you
(50:15):
thinks that that's that that is like high praise to
me because I just think Sabine is the coolest and
just the radest chick on the in the galaxy, I suppose,
And so I mean, I guess I would say like
for better or worse like she I I uh, you know,
(50:38):
am pretty sort of passionate about and and and the
for better or for worse was I was going to
say and outspoken about things that I care about. If
any of you follow me on social media, you probably
know this already, much to my agent's dismay and chagrin.
(50:58):
I you know, I like feel that there are things
that are too important to sort of like sit on
the sidelines for. And whether that costs me followers or fans,
I just think that, like, there are things that I
feel so strongly about that I feel like me to
be discussed or a light should be shown on them.
Speaker 4 (51:20):
And so.
Speaker 5 (51:22):
I guess I feel that maybe Sabina and I have
that in common. It's like a I guess, a desire
for justice in the world. And so, but I will
say where we diverge is that she is way cooler
than me. And I remember, just like for I remember vividly,
(51:45):
you know, Dave gave us such such freedom to sort
of like do what we wanted, and he very rarely,
I mean, there would be notes and some adjustments, and
a lot of times that would be for like okay,
just you know, don't forget you're in a cave. And
so you guys are pretty far apart, like you're gonna
like that, just like logistical things and and but a
(52:06):
lot of times with performance he really gave us like
a lot of leeway and and let us kind of
bring our thoughts and our emotions to that to the
performance aspect. But I will say that a note that
I would often get was a gentle less tea more Sabine.
He would say less Sabine, and I immediately knew, oh right,
(52:30):
don't be such a goober, be cooler.
Speaker 7 (52:33):
I won't say this too often, but I don't think
that's true. I think you you're right there.
Speaker 5 (52:39):
Thank you, guys, Taylor said something nice to me.
Speaker 2 (52:45):
Well we kind of recorded too, so there's we got
that eternal receipt now because like this is double backed up,
it's going to be in the cloud. We all concur
and agree with with that, and thank you for sharing that.
Speaker 6 (52:56):
And I know real quick also because I've read I
think every review, in every comment and the number of
people who said the jet Pack lightsabered debate, I closed
my eyes and it was like a mini episode of
Rebels with Sabine and Ezra arguing. It was so many
(53:18):
people that you, guys, unplanned spontaneously just became those characters
to so many people out there. It was like, you know,
season five point one for people. So I think definitely
that is represented in this podcast.
Speaker 5 (53:36):
Well I love that. Well for those of you listening
at home, that's generally how Taylor and I communicate with
each other just in life.
Speaker 2 (53:46):
And also put a challenge out to our listeners. I
know that we have a lot of talented, aspiring artists
who listen to the podcast. If any of you can
animate that bit and so their character, you know, we
all on the social we'll bring you on to this
bonus episode to feature your talent. So if anyone out
there is up to that challenge, please rise up, because
(54:06):
we would. I would love to see you because the
first thought I was like, this is totally like another
bonus episode of Rebels, not just our podcast. So there's
somebody out there because I've seen it.
Speaker 7 (54:15):
Has to end with a lightsaber just fully going through
it all right, No.
Speaker 2 (54:21):
True Lucas Fashion will have a bit of a cliffhanger,
you know, we'll let it will let people decide from there,
just like at the end of Rocky three. You know,
maybe it turns into oil painting and we don't know
even though they revealed it in Creed, but that's beside
the point. It's not even though it happened, but here it.
So this next one is an interesting question, and it
(54:42):
may fall more into Jac's territory because this person's going
more into like the fan theory. But I'm sure you
all will have uh. I know you all will have
thoughts on it. I just know Jac will know the
rich history of it. Hi, my name is Leon l I.
I I'm sorry, and I apologize anybody's name if I
sound like Principal Garvey and Peel because we're anouncing your name.
It may happen Lean with an N, or maybe it's
(55:05):
Liam Neeson in disguise. He doesn't want us to know.
He's like, oh, I will very particular set of skills,
and I want to ask you. I wanted to say
that I really loved the voice acting and the work
behind the series since it was so good. Also, I
had sort of a fan theory question, which were which
is were Canaan and Ezra Jedies or were they more
(55:27):
Gray Jedies. Now real quick for those who may not
be as well versed or maybe unfamiliar, if you look
at the Jedi. They're very much like the samurai in
Japanese culture. That's with the Jedi. They're part of the
established order, where a gray Jedi is somebody who's been
through all the levels you would have to do to
achieve the level of Jedi, but not part of the
Jedi council and samurai code that you call Ronan's, so
(55:48):
that the gray Jedi is like the Ronans. So I
guess the question is, were canaan As are Jedies in
the traditional sense or were they more gray Jedies.
Speaker 7 (55:56):
I'm going to use my phone a friend on who
wants to be a millionaire and pass funcation.
Speaker 6 (56:00):
See, this is where I'm going to lose the audience.
So I apologize, but I will say Taylor could be
a great Jedi because his name is Taylor Gray.
Speaker 3 (56:13):
I don't buy into grade Jedi.
Speaker 6 (56:16):
I think if you ask George Lucas, he would say
you are either a Jedi and you live by those ideals,
or you are not. There's not a I think finding
a middle ground there and calling it grade Jedi instead
of light and dark is runs against the good guys
(56:38):
wear white, bad guys wear black of the original intent
of Star Wars through the first you know, six movies.
So I'm going to say, and I'm sorry to everybody
out there who loves grade Jedi, I am not a
great Jedi guy. I don't believe in grade Jedi. I
think that Taylor or sorry. So there we go, right,
(57:00):
and are I think that they are Jedi? You know,
you look at the history that we've gotten, especially for
Canaan through other tales of the Jedi and things like that,
and he got as much or more training than Luke Skywalker.
Did you know? The way that he chose to present
(57:23):
being a Jedi was no more reckless or selfish or
anything than Luke's path to becoming a Jedi, especially if
you consider.
Speaker 3 (57:35):
The sequel trilogy.
Speaker 6 (57:36):
You know, and he took again Ezra was probably too
old to begin the training, but he took Ezra under
his wing and started training him in the same way
that Luke was.
Speaker 3 (57:48):
So no, I think that their actual Jedi.
Speaker 6 (57:50):
I don't think you need to qualify it by being
a half Jedi. I think they're full fledged Jedi. Maybe
not Jedi nights because they weren't dubbed so by Yoda
or somebody like that. I'm not sure how that ceremony happens.
They didn't go through maybe the trials, but by in
(58:10):
the in the post and the post Republic era, I
think they fully qualify as a Jedi. If Luke Skywalker
is a Jedi.
Speaker 4 (58:20):
If the question was are they Jedi, they're Jedi.
Speaker 2 (58:25):
Yeah, so Liam Neeson, if that was you, uh, you
have your answer, like all right. Next one is from
unless Ivan. I said to you if you had thoughts
on them, I feel like Jon.
Speaker 5 (58:39):
I think Jase's covered the bases on that.
Speaker 3 (58:42):
Yeah, Mike Troup.
Speaker 2 (58:44):
My next one is from Sabina Bowls again, and then
my principal sab Brandy boll Lindsay would be my principal
Gary pronunciation of your name, just so I can protect myself.
This is a very nice letter, and she has individual
messages for people here on here too. Hey, my name
is Sabrina and I'm a huge fan. I loved the
first episode and I cannot wait for the next episodes.
(59:05):
Rebels is a huge part of who I am, and
I love the stories and insights you have given so far.
I have small messages for each of you, so I
hope this reaches you guys well. Sabrina, it has Tia
Hi exclamation point. Sabine is my favorite Star Wars character
and one of my idols. Your portrayal of her is
so inspiring, and thank you for bringing her to life.
(59:26):
Double exclamation point. That's how you know she Taylor, Hi
exclamation point. Ezra is such an iconic Star Wars character.
I feel as if he's the face of the new
generation of Star Wars that came when Rebels aired. Thank
you for making him so amazing.
Speaker 7 (59:43):
Oh very sweet, my burner account, Isa.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Whatt a m night, Shamalin twist, This podcast has taken
all right, Vanessa high Space Mom. Harah is truly an
amazing character, and you have made her that way. She
is so inspiring and I want to be just like
her and you, Oh.
Speaker 1 (01:00:07):
That is so kind. Thank you, Sabrina. I like it
to meet you someday.
Speaker 4 (01:00:12):
I'm right here.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
We just went over this and well, Taylor, your burner
account apparently wrote me a message too, which is just yeah,
I know you are. You're in a good This is
before we had our Russell Westbrook debate. I'm pretty I
can tell John. Thank you for being such a wonderful host.
Your jokes are spectacular. Well, thank you everybody gets them,
but you know we get them. I love the line
(01:00:36):
about Darth Vader during your summary of Sparkle Rebellion. I
can't wait to see you more.
Speaker 1 (01:00:41):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:00:41):
And for those who forgot, I said Darth Vader was
the greatest, like building with asthma. Now it's starting to
line out that this could be your burner account because
that was one of the first reactions you had to
my recap on episode one. Tailor like, oh thanks, I
like that.
Speaker 1 (01:01:00):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:01:01):
Next question from Abby Barlow, Hi Potter Rebellion. I absolutely
loved the podcast Rebel's first premiere when I was eight,
and I am forever grateful that I got to grow
up with these iconic characters. To quote Ezra, they taught
me so much about life and about being a good person.
Look at that. My question for the cast is Star
Wars is known for its iconic action figures and toy lines.
(01:01:24):
What was your reaction to first senior characters immortalize in
toy form?
Speaker 1 (01:01:30):
WHOA yeah, com con san diego right, go ahead and
tell him for me.
Speaker 4 (01:01:37):
And this was sweet.
Speaker 7 (01:01:39):
It was cool getting the different the lucasfilm sent us
everything and like all the Israelitsabers Fund my roommate hated
at time. It had the little like the things that
shot out. But the sweetest was I remember my mom
texting me from Target a photo and she was.
Speaker 4 (01:01:53):
Like, isn't this the character you play?
Speaker 7 (01:01:54):
And she was like, it's so cool, and like I've
been acting for a while before and there have been
fun little things come up, but it was fun. It
was cool that my mom had sent me that, and
I always remember, like nice, like she saw it and
she liked that, Like that was always that I'll always remember,
and so that was funny.
Speaker 4 (01:02:10):
But that's kind of it.
Speaker 1 (01:02:11):
Yeah, I think San Diego Comic Con twenty fourteen, the
Hasbro release of those figures. I mean, Tia, we were
losing it. I mean, I'll never forget. I mean I
think I sent you pictures of that moment, John, or
maybe Tia sent you one of us actually at that
particular moment when we.
Speaker 5 (01:02:31):
Were on the stage with Daisy Ridley and they like
presented our they were called adventures.
Speaker 1 (01:02:37):
No, that was that was a different That was a
different year. This is the very first twenty fourteen they
had these huge figures of our characters. Oh yeah, and
we had the Hasbro Black Series figures released and we
were holding them up and they had them on these
little pedestals and I believe we were signing posters following
that photos. Yes, exactly, exactly, Yeah, I mean as a
(01:03:01):
collector Hasbro figure was was pretty crazy. And I was
actually in a target and looked over and saw the
ghost and I didn't know who to talk to you there,
this is this is this is really special.
Speaker 3 (01:03:15):
Uh I think I don't.
Speaker 4 (01:03:17):
Know it was.
Speaker 1 (01:03:17):
It was really uh, it was very very cool.
Speaker 3 (01:03:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:03:21):
Anyway, also just to have a funk Go Pop and
also like multiple funk Go pops that like that to
me is like, yeah, mind blowing, so cool. It's hard
to but yeah, like I think getting presented our Black
Series Black Series figures, and then also it must have
(01:03:45):
been another Star Wars celebration, getting our Adventure figures I
think is what they were called.
Speaker 1 (01:03:50):
It was. Yeah, I feel like that was celebration in Chicago.
I wasn't there for that. I think it was you,
Ashley Daisy.
Speaker 5 (01:03:58):
I was data wasn't there and me maybe that's maybe yeah,
I'm sorry, I just assumed that everything I do. You
are also know.
Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
That one we were in different places here and there. Yeah,
also great photos.
Speaker 1 (01:04:13):
I sent John that one example, I think you're wearing
like a Boba fet jacket looking amazing.
Speaker 5 (01:04:19):
Oh yeah me? Or John?
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
You, Oh.
Speaker 5 (01:04:25):
I do?
Speaker 1 (01:04:25):
I do?
Speaker 5 (01:04:26):
Yes, you do somewhere here.
Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
Yet, Yeah, you were crushing it.
Speaker 1 (01:04:29):
I think I was sending John examples of your uh
red carpet.
Speaker 3 (01:04:35):
You know abilities, I'm sure.
Speaker 1 (01:04:38):
I'm sure those will be posted soon, fans, you'll see them.
Speaker 7 (01:04:41):
I actually have a quick and of the other side
of that, which is we recorded for Disney and I
think the game was called Infinity.
Speaker 4 (01:04:50):
Do you guys remember that, like that there was a
game that was.
Speaker 7 (01:04:54):
Exfinity, Yes, Infinity okay, and they so so recorded. It
was the gnarliest recording session where we did, like I
think it was like six hours and there was something
like twelve hundred lines, and it was like a little effort,
medium effort, big effort, and it was every line.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
Because it's a.
Speaker 7 (01:05:12):
World where I mean, people who are listening some will
probably know this game like you interact with Mickey Mouse
and uh goofy and I don't know, different toy story,
but whatever is in this Disney world, Well they sent
it to us, the game what And I had an
Xbox or it was this thing you set up like
(01:05:33):
you put the figure. The way you played with figures
is they send you the figure and you set it
on the game and now you can play.
Speaker 4 (01:05:39):
Well, I had just moved into a.
Speaker 7 (01:05:41):
New place and I had they sent me Ezra and
then a couple other people, and I put it in.
I was by myself. I had zero furniture. I'm sitting there. Oh,
JC just found one. Yes, those are exactly it. So
I had those and I was like, wow, this is sick,
like I have nothing in this house. I think I'd
ordered some Chinese jo sitting on the floor and I
plugged it in and I started playing, and you're playing
(01:06:03):
with yourself, and it is so strange. I remember being
like freaked out by like myself, like controint.
Speaker 4 (01:06:14):
That I threw it all away.
Speaker 7 (01:06:16):
I was like I can't do this, and it like
it genuinely like scared me. It's like I was like
racing around doing like a racing game like Mario Kart
against Mickey Mouse. But then because I didn't change my
voice pras, it was like gotcha.
Speaker 4 (01:06:30):
I didn't like like whatever was happening.
Speaker 7 (01:06:33):
And so I remember it was like a funky thing
but I got rid of the whatever the game console,
but I didn't get rid of the figure, So I
still have what Jac just pulled up of Ezra, and
I always every time I see it, I'm like, ah,
that thing's a bit freaky to me. So I had
the opposite where I was like, okay, that's it was
a little like too far.
Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
Do you think it.
Speaker 6 (01:06:52):
Would still bother you ten years later? Like I have it,
I could bring it over. We could see if it's
still freaked you out.
Speaker 4 (01:07:01):
I don't know, I don't know. Maybe I'm probably fine.
Speaker 7 (01:07:03):
I mean, watching the show and listening to it, I'm
so removed. I kind of just love hearing everyone's voices.
I'd rather play with the other Rebels.
Speaker 2 (01:07:11):
Characters bonus content, but we're gonna get the reaction of
real time. That's what it sounds like to me. Awesome, awesome.
Well that's all the time we have for today, unfortunately,
but I feel like we're having so much fun, Like
do we want to do this again? Like maybe next
week too? Absolutely, because so many new sense and so
many great questions. We only have so much time. But
