Speaker 1 (00:05):
Are you mystified by the so called seal trumpet and
vile judgments God will pour out upon the earth according
to Revelation, You're in good company. But today on Turning Point,
doctor David Jeremiah strips away the mystery to help you
understand the prophetic meaning and timeline from his series Escape

(00:25):
the Coming Night. Here's David to introduce today's message, title
Deed to the Earth.

Speaker 2 (00:31):
And thank you for joining us today.

Speaker 3 (00:33):
We now enter into the major portion of the Book
of Revelation, which seems like it stops nowhere between now
and the end of the book. It's just one thing
after the other as fast as it can happen, and
it tells us what's going to happen on Earth during
the seven year Tribulation, some of the things that are
happening in heaven and will happen when the tribulation ends.

(00:56):
So today we begin with this message called titled Deed
to the Earth, and we'll get going there in just
a moment in the fifth chapter of Revelation, So get
ready to join us. In the meantime, our resource for
the month of May is a brand new publication from
Turning Point called Sixty Days of prophecies the truth behind

(01:16):
end time warnings. Each day you'll learn about a specific prophecy.
You'll learn how each prophecy relates to the world today.
You'll get key takeaway scriptures that will help you apply
what you've learned. And it's yours for a gift of
any amount of turning point when you ask for it
during the month of May, send your gift and just say,
please send me the Prophecy Book, and we'll do it

(01:39):
right away. We'll send it to you because we want
you to have it. It's another way to build your
understanding of what's coming in the future. Well, we are
so excited to be back in the Book of Revelation,
and we begin now with the title d to the
Earth Part one.

Speaker 2 (01:57):
I cannot help but wonder if the vision that is
before us in the fourth and fifth chapter of the
Book of Revelation is not the vision that God gave
to the apostle Paul, which he wrote about briefly in
his second Letter to the Corinthians. He described his experience

(02:19):
as being caught up into paradise and hearing unspeakable words
which he was not permitted to speak. John, I think
saw that same vision, but God gave John the opportunity
to write about it, and we have it before us
in the Book of Revelation. The fourth and the fifth
chapters really should not be divided by a chapter division.

(02:42):
It is unfortunate that that is there, for they are
basically together and should be studied together. The first word
of the fifth chapter is the word end, and it
relates the fifth chapter to the end of the fourth chapter.
In order to under stand what is going on in
chapter five, we must remember the picture that is before

(03:06):
us in chapter four. Seated upon the throne is God.
Surrounding the throne an emerald rainbow, and sitting around the
throne are the twenty four Elders representing the Church of
Jesus Christ. Sounding forth from the throne our thunderings and
lightnings and voices signifying the judgment that is about to

(03:28):
fall upon the Earth. Spread Out in front of the
throne is a sea of glass, separating all other creatures
but the angels from the glory of God. And standing
in the midst of the throne are the four living creatures,
which are God's special angelic servants. And the angels rest

(03:49):
not day nor night, as they praise God in the
twenty four elders, hearing the voices of the angels, fall
down upon their faces, and worship Him that liveth forever
and end ever. And then we began the fifth chapter.
And we notice that now something has become central in

(04:09):
this chapter that we have not had before us in
the scene from heaven up until this time. The scripture says,
and I saw in the right hand of him that
sat upon the throne a book written within and on
the backside, sealed with seven seals. The Book of Revelation,

(04:31):
if you study it carefully, is a book about books.
There are several books mentioned in this last book of
the Bible. There is the Book of Life, which is
the register of all the names of all of those
who have been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb.
There is the Book of Works. The Bible tells us

(04:52):
in the Book of Revelation that there is a book
in which is written all the deeds which we have
done in this life, and some that book will be opened,
and men will be judged out of the Book of Works,
and they will be judged for their rejection of Jesus Christ.
The tenth chapter of the Book of Revelation tells us

(05:12):
about a book of testimony, and the chapter we study
now is centered around still another book. I need to
try to impress upon you that this chapter is the
most important chapter we have studied up to this point.
In fact, in many respects, it is the key to
the unfolding of the entire rest of the book. The

(05:35):
focus of John's attention as he looks at the scene
in heaven is on a scroll which is in the
right hand of the one who sat upon the throne.
We know that the one sitting upon the throne is
none other than God himself. The scroll here is described
as that which is written inside and on the back,

(05:58):
and it is sealed with sevens. The scroll was rolled
up like a Roman will, and it was sealed with
seven seals. Roman law required that a will be sealed
seven times. In fact, history has recorded for us that
both Caesar, Augustus and Vespasian left their wills in such

(06:21):
a manner, sealed seven times. The fact that the will,
or the book or the scroll was written upon both
on the front and on the back, was an indication
that the scroll was full and that nothing more could
be added. John looks and he sees the scroll laying

(06:42):
on the open palm in the right hand of the
one who is seated upon the throne in Heaven. Now
there is a great deal of discussion among students of
the Word of God as to what this scroll might mean. Goday,
one of the scholars of the Book of Revelation, thinks
that the book is the Book of the New Covenant.

(07:02):
Walter Scott thinks that this is the revelation of God's
purpose and counsel concerning the world. I believe that Harry
Ironside and many others like him are correct when they
identify the scroll in the right hand of God seated
upon the throne in Heaven as the title deed to

(07:22):
this Earth. And I believe that we are specifically told
in this chapter what the book contains and what the
seals are going to mean when they are released. The book,
which is in the hand of God as he is
seated upon the throne in Glory, unfolds the entire rest
of the Book of Revelation. For instance, beginning in the

(07:45):
sixth chapter, we have what are called the seven Seals.
And as those seals are opened and the book reveals
what is going to happen, we see the judgments of
God poured out upon this earth. For in instance, look
over in your bible to the sixth chapter and read,
and I saw when the lamb opened one of the seals,

(08:07):
and I heard, as it were, the noise of thunder
one of the four beasts, saying, come and see. And
I saw and behold a white horse. And as you
get into the seals, you see the judgment of God
coming upon this earth. Now, if you know the Book
of Revelation, and we outlined it at the beginning, you
know that there are in the tribulation period which comes

(08:29):
immediately now on the earth, there are sevens three times.
There are seven seals, there are seven trumpets, and there
are seven vials. Some folks believe that these are consecutive judgments,
first the seven seal judgments, then the seven trumpet judgments,
and then the seven vile judgments. But the Word of

(08:51):
God is very clear that that is not the way
it is. These are, in essence, all contained in the
seven seals which are on the scroll which is in
the right hand of God the Father on the throne,
which John now sees in chapter five. Let me explain
what I mean. The seventh seals on this scroll are

(09:13):
not as we have envisioned, perhaps in past time. I
remember when I first read the Book of Revelation. In
my mind's eye, I saw a scroll, and along the
edge of the final roll on the scroll were seven seals.
In fact, I have seen pictures like that to depict
what is going on in the book. But that's not
the way it was. In the Roman will they would

(09:38):
open the scroll clear, wide open, and they would write
on the initial part of the scroll. Then they would
roll it up and seal that part of it with
a seal. Then they would write on some more of
it and roll it up and put another seal, and
write on some more of it, and roll it up
and put on another seal. And finally, according to this scroll,
it was rolled up all the way to the end,
and the seventh seal was on the outside side edge

(10:00):
of the outside of the roll. Now, if you take
that in reverse, what you have is this. When you
take off the outside seal, you unroll it and it
reveals what's going to happen. Then you take off the
next seal and you unroll it some more, and it
reveals what's going to happen. Until you've gone all the
way to the very core of the scroll, and you've
come to the last seal. Now I want you to

(10:21):
notice something that is very interesting. I want you to
turn over in your bibles to the eighth chapter. Notice
the eighth chapter of the first verse. And when he
had opened the seventh seal, there was silence in heaven
about the space of an hour. And I saw the
seven angels which stood before God, and to them were
given seven trumpets. Now watch this. The seventh seal is

(10:47):
the seven trumpets. I tried to figure a way that
I might explain to you what's going on with the
seventh seals, the seven trumpets and the seventh vials. Maybe
the best way to think about it is as a telescope.
The seventh seals unfold as a telescope till we get
to the last section of the telescope. Now, the seventh

(11:07):
trumpets are going to be the last section as it unfolds,
and it keeps unfolding with the seven trumpets. And if
you study the book, you will discover when you get
to the seventh trumpet, the seventh trumpet are the seventh vials.
Now watch carefully in the seals. Then are all the
judgments for the entire rest of the Book of Revelation.

(11:29):
For in the seventh seal are all the trumpets, and
in the seventh trumpet are all the vials. So all
of the judgments from the beginning to the end of
the tribulation are encompassed in the seventh seals on the
role that is in the hand of God the Father
on the throne. Now I don't want this to confuse you,
but listen carefully. This book, which is about to be opened,

(11:52):
unfolds the entire history of the tribulation from the beginning
till the end. And as you know, the Book of
Revelation is the story of tribulation on this earth from
chapter six through chapter nineteen. Chapters four and five are
in heaven. Chapter six through nineteen are going to take
place on this earth. And John sees the scroll in

(12:15):
the hand of God the Father. Now what this scroll
is all about is this This scroll is the title
deed to this earth. And through the tribulation that is
going to take place on this earth, Jesus Christ is
going to once again gain control of the earth that

(12:35):
belongs to him. Through the judgments and through the trumpets
and through the vials, he is going to pour out
his judgment upon this earth until we finally get to
the end of the seventh vile Judgment. And now let
me show you what's going to happen. Take your bibles
and turn to the eleventh chapter at the end of
the judgments. Clear at the end, included in that is

(13:00):
the seventh trumpet. But at the end of the judgment,
notice chapter eleven and verse fifteen, and the seventh angels sounded,
and there were great voices in heaven saying, watch carefully.
The kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of
our Lord and of his Christ, and he shall reign

(13:21):
forever and ever. What is going to happen at the
end of the tribulation period. By the end of the
tribulation period, Jesus Christ will once again be in control
of this earth. So the book that is in the
hand of God the Father as he sits on the
throne is the title Deed to the Earth. And when
that book is open and gradually unrolled, God, through his

(13:44):
son Christ, is going to take dominion over the world
that belongs to him. The earth is the Lord's and
the fullness thereof. Does God have control of the world today?
Ultimately he does. But what does the scripture say about Satan.
He is the prince of the power of the air,
and this world now is in his control. Listen, if

(14:06):
God is in control of the world, he's not doing
a very good job. Satan's in control of this world now.
But one of these days God is going to take
it back, and it will be his forever and ever. Now,
watch what happens In the fifth chapter, John seesed this
scroll in the hand of God the Father on the throne.

(14:29):
And as he saw that, I saw a strong angel
proclaiming with a loud voice, who is worthy to open
the book and to loose the seals thereof? And no
man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth,
was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.
John said, I begin to weep, because no man was

(14:52):
found worthy to open and to read the book, neither
to look thereon. And one of the elders said to me,
don't weep. There's somebody. And that begins the worship of
this chapter. The unfolding of the one who takes the
scroll and opens it up is the unfolding of the

(15:15):
worship of chapter five. And I suppose the best way
for us to study. This is to study it along
the lines of worship. Before we do that, I want
you to hold your place in Revelation and turn back
to the book of Daniel, where we have another picture
of what I believe is this very same scene. Turn

(15:36):
back to Daniel chapter twelve. Daniel chapter twelve, and I
want us to read verses eight and nine. You remember,
at the end of Daniel's prophecy, after God had revealed
much of the future to him as a prophet in
the Old Testament, we read these interesting words in verses

(15:59):
eight and nine of Daniel twelve. Daniel said, and I heard,
but I understood not. Then said I, oh, my Lord,
what shall be the end of these things? And he said,
go by way, Daniel, for the words are closed up,
and they are sealed till the time of the end.
What Daniel saw in Daniel twelve that he didn't understand

(16:22):
because God sealed it up, is what John is about
to see unsealed in the fifth chapter of Revelation as
he gets the picture of what's going to happen. Listen,
when this scroll is unrolled and we read it, which
is what we're going to do, we will have detailed
discussion of everything that's going to happen on this earth
from now until the end. That's why the Book of

(16:44):
Revelation is so crucial. All right, now, we're going to worship,
and I want you to notice why worship is central
in this passage. First of all, we worship in this
passage because of the identity of the one who takes
the scroll. Notice verses five through seven. And one of
the elders saith, unto me, weep not behold the lion

(17:07):
of the tribe of Judah, the root of David hath
prevailed to open the book and to loose the seven
seals thereof. And I beheld, and lo in the midst
of the throne and of the four beasts, And in
the midst of the elder stood a lamb, as it
had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which
are the seven spirits of God sent forth unto all

(17:29):
the earth. And he came, and he took the book
out of the right hand of him that sat upon
the throne. Now, who is the identity of the one
who is worthy alone to take the book and open
it up and unfold its truth. Well, there are three
names given for him in the text. Let's look at
them one at a time. First of all, the elder said,

(17:50):
there is the lion of the tribe of Judah. Who
could that be? Well, this title takes us back in
our Bible study to the four forty ninth chapter of
the Book of Genesis. Please do not turn there, but
just turn on your memory for a moment. Do you
remember when we were going through our study in the
life of Joseph, that we came to chapter forty nine,

(18:13):
And I told you that that chapter was the chapter
in which all of the sons were being blessed. And
do you remember how the blessings were tailor made for
all the sons of Jacob before he died. And the
tailor made blessing for Judah was like this. Let me
read it. Judah, you are he whom your brother shall praise.

(18:37):
Your hands shall be on the neck of your enemies.
Your father's children shall bow down before you. Judah is
a lion's welp from the pray my son you have
gone up, He bows down. He lies down as a lion,
and as a lion who shall rouse him. The scepter
shall not depart from Judah, nor a log giver from

(18:58):
between his feet until Shiloh comes, and to him shall
be the obedience of the people. What Jacob prophesied to Judah,
which he may not even have understood himself, was this
that out of the tribe of Judah was going to
come the Messiah, who was Jesus Christ himself. And one

(19:19):
of the names for the Messiah is the Lion of
the tribe of Judah. King David was from the tribe
of Judah, and one of the common titles for Jesus
while he was on this earth was the son of David.
And this title speaks of the dignity and the sovereignty,
and the courage and the victory. Do you remember when

(19:43):
the people of Israel wanted to take King Saul and
make him the king. Do you remember the fight they
had over that, and how God warned him against You
know what was wrong with that. He was from the
wrong tribe, and the reason God resisted that was that
he knew it was not in keeping in everything that
happened during King Saul's reign ended up not doing too well,

(20:05):
because you don't want to violate the prophecy of the scripture. Now,
the Angel and the Elder says to John don't you worry.
There's somebody here who is worthy to take the scroll.
He comes from the right lineage. He's available to open
the scroll now and unfold it. He's the lion of
the tribe of Judah. That's name number one. Look down

(20:25):
in your bibles and notice the second name. He is
the root of David. Verse five. Behold, the root of
David has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose
its seven seals. Now that's one of the most interesting
terms for Jesus in this whole text. Let me explain

(20:45):
what I mean as far as Jesus humanity was concerned.
Jesus had his roots in David. Remember, he came from
the tribe of Judah through the descent of David. David
was from the tribe of Judah, and Jesus was a
descendant through David back to the tribe of Judah. So
where were Jesus' roots They were in David. But notice

(21:10):
the text doesn't say his roots are in David. He
said here that he is the root of David. That
puts Jesus back before David in the ancestry and reverses it.
Do you see what I'm saying Jesus was both the
ancestor of David and his right Now do you remember

(21:33):
that that got Jesus in trouble once in the New Testament,
that whole discussion. Turn in your Bibles to the Book
of Matthew Matthew chapter twenty two and look at verses
forty one to forty six. I love this because this
is the controversy that got into over this very issue.
When the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, saying,

(21:56):
what think you of Christ? Whose son is he? And
they say, unto him, the son of David? And he
saith unto them. How then doth David in spirit call
him lord? Saying the Lord said, unto my Lord, sit
thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies
thy footstool. If David then call him lord, how is

(22:16):
he his son? In other words, they couldn't figure out
how David could both be related to Jesus as the
one who came from Jesus and the one who came
before Jesus. Do you remember what Jesus said on one
occasion before Abraham, was I am Now that is unusual.

(22:38):
That's not the kind of thing you put together immediately
if you don't know the Bible and don't know Christ.
Jesus was both in his humanity from David and in
his deity before David. He is the root of David.
What a great term for Jesus as he is about
to take the scroll and unfold the eternal plan of God,
for he is the eternal God himself. But the third

(23:01):
name for the one who is going to unfold the
scroll is the best of all three. Watch what it says.
And I beheld verse six, and lo, in the midst
of the Throne, and in the midst of the four Beasts,
and in the midst of the Elder, stood a lamb,
as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes,
which are the seven spirits of God sent forth into

(23:24):
all the earth. Here in this passage of scripture, which
is centered in worship, we have Jesus presented as the
lion of the tribe of Judah, as the root of David,
and now as the lamb who was slain.

Speaker 3 (23:41):
So the question is who is worthy to take the
deed to the earth, And no one was found worthy
but the Lord himself. We're going to see what happens says,
this deed is unrolled, and like a scroll, we see
the issues that will take place from this moment on
in this wonder book. Friends, we are so excited that
