Speaker 1 (00:00):
Ridiculous News as a production of I Heart Radio and
Cool Cool Cool Audio. Yeah Yeah, yeah, We're amazing and
crazy topics. Conpiging to choose you would nap tune meant
ridiculous News. We gets us their views on working the
rules of broadcasts then and all sorts a while of
course that he was a brand up the journalism, the

(00:22):
strange and the usual stories, and well we gave them.
When it's all about ridiculous news everywhere, we told about
ridiculous News over here. Hey, everyone, welcome to Ridiculous News,
not your average news show. We covered stuff you didn't
realize was news from the wild and funny, to the
deep and hidden to the absolutely ridiculous. I'm Mark Kendall.
I'm an Atlanta based comedian, and today is a deep
dive episode and to Tinder, the well known dating app.

(00:44):
My co host Bill is the Way today. But I
am so lucky to be joined by the talented actor
and improv comedian Madeline Evans. Madeline has traveled around the
country performing improv with the renowned improv group Six Kids.
She shared the stage with other renowned improvisers like thirty Rock,
Scott ats It. She has a sought out improv teacher
in Atlanta, and her show road Trip, which she hosts

(01:06):
and produces, is easily one of the best improv shows
in the city. UM. She was recently in Dad's Garage
UH Theater's stage production of Invasion Christmas Carol uh and
you can follow her on I g at mad Dog ten.
Welcome Madeline, Thank you so much for being here. Thank
you marked so much for having me. I'm so excited

(01:27):
to be here. You forgot that I'm also an avid
and loyal user of the dating apps as Tinder specifically.
I actually is promised that Bill would be here, though,
so I'm a little disappointed. Yes, I'm sorry. I I
promised that Bill would be here, mostly just to help
convince you to join us again for the podcast. Uh.
And I'm sorry for that, but I'm glad you're here
now and I hope you're ready to have a good time.

(01:49):
But yeah, I know that you use the Tender app,
which is really helpful. I'm myself do not. Uh. I've
never used it before, so it'll be great to have
your expertise. Yeah, before we dive into this topic, UH,
we got to do a segment that we do for
every time we have a guest, which is giving them
their flowers. So this is the moment, Madeline, where I'm
gonna give you a compliment. The only rule is you

(02:10):
can't like be returning it with another compliment back to me.
You just got to accept this compliment and take your flowers. Okay. So,
Madelon Uh, as I said last time you're on the show,
I think you're just such a hilarious, funny person. But
the other thing, Madeline or not, there's many other things.
But another thing Madlan, that I just really appreciate about
you is you are such a welcoming person. You know,

(02:31):
your show road Trip, for those that have not seen it,
you gather uh improvisers from around the city that normally
would not play together to get them to join in
on a night of comedy, which is not easy to do.
And it shows how much people trust you and they're
willing to hop in a situation where they might meet
some strangers, and when you're performing, that can be a
vulnerable place to be. But I think that they do

(02:52):
that because they trust you. You make them feel welcome
and they enjoy being around you, as do I. So
thank you, Thank you, Bill, I mean Mark, that was great.
That was great, very funny, very funny as always. All Right,
so y'all, we're gonna keep things moving, and we're gonna
you can't return the comments. Are the rules I didn't make.

(03:12):
I didn't make these rules, Malone. I heart Media didn't
make them either. But these are just the rules of
the Ridiculous News universe. Plus, we gotta keep going. We
live a little bit, Mark, I want you to little
little we got. We got to talk about Tinder, and
I will continue to argue this. This is the hill
I will die on. We can delay the podcast as
long as it needs to be delayed, but you will
not return a compliment. How do you live with yourself? Mark,

(03:33):
I'm so sorry. It's easy. It's actually really easy. It's
really easy in Malone. You I'm not going to tell
you what to do, of course, but it's great practice
just to receive a compliment and not return one. So
I'm just saying, I just want to say thank you, Okay,
thank you for your kind spirit and your hilarity. Okay,

(03:54):
Oh that I'm cutting it out. I'm gonna cut that out,
all right, So we're gonna keep going, and yourself out.
I'm gonna cut you cut it. I'm gonna I'm gonna
cut it. I'm not gonna no. I will go back
and forth on this all the time. Just no, I'm
going to cut it out. So a compliment does not
enter into anyway, all right, So we're gonna keep going.
These are the news Nibbles section. These are quick, ridiculous
headlines and this time they are all centered around Tinder.

(04:18):
So this first headline from several years ago and it's
from USA Today by Chris Serko, and the headline is
It's a match girlfriend learns tender level, donate kidney and
sweet video. So this is uplifting, heartfelt story. I felt
so Atlanta, Duran and Lori and Tolichio aren't just a
match on Tinder. The girlfriends learned that they are compatible

(04:39):
for a kidney transplant that Duran had been seeking for
a long time. So they posted a video to Facebook.
And Duran had been diagnosed with lupus at the age
of twelve. Uh, they also endure a replacement. They live
on dialysis and they've been waiting for a kidney since uh.
And so this video that they posted after the exact

(05:00):
moment when she learned that her girlfriend not only was
a transplant match, but also willing to donate her kidney.
The article goes on to say that none of this
would have happened had to ran a year old Stony
Brookie University student and inter lichio, a twenty two year
old cheerleading coach and pair professional aid. And this is
at the time the article of these aids, by the way,

(05:22):
uh not matched on Tinder, which of course is the
dating app that we're talking about on today's episode. And
the article goes on to say while it would be
a while before the two New Yorkers knew that their
antibodies wouldn't clash during a transplant, other kinds of chemistry
were more obvious. The couple also hopes the video Foster's

(05:42):
conversation about LGBT rights as well as advocacy for organ
and blood donation and their expansion. So I thought that
that was a nice story and it also does bring up, like,
you know, important issues surrounding surrounding those things. Yeah, that's
so beautiful. I think Tinder often gets like a bad
rep for being like the hook up app, but like
anything that brings people together that you wouldn't ordinarily meet

(06:05):
is such a beautiful thing. Also, yeah, if you can
have something else inside like I, I I don't understand the
science of it, but I'm glad that they're having those
conversations because if you're having something like a kidney inside
of you, why can't you have anything else inside of
you from another person of the same gender that I'm
no expert in that. I'm just an expert in love.
All right, awesome, So Madeline as an expert in love

(06:30):
really set myself up for that. Your kind of you. No, no, no,
it's okay. I'm I'm just joking, but I mean, however,
not joking, but you know what I'm saying. I'm just saying.
You know, I respect your opinion about love, and it
sounds like you're kind of pro tender. You think it's
it's a useful app, you feel, you feel good about it.
I don't want to speak too soon. Um, Okay, of
the apps I've used, I used that one the least frequently,

(06:54):
but they give me the most notifications. I've only been
on one Tinder date and I've only like had one
match where I actually enjoyed what they said to me. Uh.
And so for that guy, we never met in person.
But for the last two years, every single holiday I
message him and we just have bits back and forth,
and that's very delightful. Um. But yeah, one actual tender

(07:16):
day that led to like three dates, and then the
rest of them have been kind of iffy. So it
sounds like from your earlier comment about Tinder, it sounds
like we're just kind of optimistic love in general. That's
kind of what I'm hearing. Is that is that fair
to say? Yeah, yeah, that you can find it in
an unlikely places and you never know where it could
lead to. That's why I haven't given up. That's why

(07:38):
I've been a loyal patron for like seven plus years
and it's still on my phone. So yeah, it's cool.
Uh well uh In Alicio, who was the donor from
the article, had a quote saying, I love the outpouring
of love and support the Alanna and I have been receiving,

(07:59):
but it pains me to know that if we were
a couple of gay men, my kidney would be considered
at risk. Um. And so again they've been trying to
draw attention to the issue with hashtag donate don't discriminate.
They went on to say, while I might be able
to donate a kidney to her, I wouldn't be able
to donate blood or tissue. I feel strongly that our

(08:20):
federal government should be able to look past a person's
sexual orientation and deciding whether or not they are suitable
to give the gift of life. But that was a
powerful statement. Well, yeah, so that was a fun love story.
But we have another headline that's kind of sweet but
shows tender being used in a way that I didn't
know it was used for. So this article, also from

(08:40):
several years ago. The headline is, uh, dogs stuck at
shelter for nearly three years lands on Tender to find
true love. And so this is from Aaron Greenwood for
USA Today. So the article says it's hard to find love. Uh,
that's true whether you're a human or a shelter dog. So,
like other lonely hearts of this era, Henry the How

(09:00):
is on tinder. It kind of sounds like a movie. Yeah,
that's exactly what I was thinking. It sounds like the
opening of like a movie trailer or something. Um and so,
and he's got some good opening lines. First, the dogs
are taking over basketball games, and now they're taking over
tinder men won't stand a chance. That's such a great

(09:27):
I love that movie Pitch where you follow that same
Airbud and that Airbud dog is just like I've conquered basketball, football,
all the different sports, you know, I've been a success
to every level except that counts the most. Yeah. Yeah,
And it's about Airbud going out trying to find love.
That's fantastic. I feel like we've been like working towards

(09:49):
this for a while too. They keep in, for some reason,
changing men into dogs for movies. Have you noticed that?
Like a lot of dads. It's like Freaky Friday worked
out so well, so they were like, what else can
we switch people with? Specifically men with dogs? Was there
all right? Was there a Tim Allen movie where he

(10:09):
becomes a dog? There's like a Tim Allen maybe Kevin Spacey,
which maybe dogs aren't better, you know what I'm saying. Okay,
what's what was the Tim Allen movie? Though? You remember
that one? I don't remember what it's called. I don't
think I was their target market. I don't know who is,

(10:30):
but someone is baking for those movies. This is just
such an interesting like Tangent or threat. Do you have
a favorite movie where they turn a man into a dog.
I was just curious because like when you when you
mentioned it, it sounded like maybe there was something in
your head that there's a lot of them. I just
feel like there's always a commercial for them, the Tim

(10:52):
Allen one, and then at the end like their family
loves them again. So I guess that's the lesson in
order for men to become better, to just give them
have them walk in the pause of an animal. Um perspective.

(11:13):
Absolutely well, Well, I did a quick Google search. The
Tim Allen movie that we're talking about is The Shaggy
Dog from two thousand six. Yeah. I think that's just
like a common debate though that like they these movies
keep turning people into something. Um, yeah, but that's happening.
But I guess it's with the overarching like theme of perspective.

(11:36):
But I don't. I don't think we need to keep
turning people into dogs. You think people just need to
figure it out as humans for themselves. Well, back to
Henry and their Tinder profile, they got some pretty good
quotes on there that were put on there from their
human assistant. So while some of these lines real quick,

(11:56):
I'll throw them your way human assistant. I'm sorry, I
love that phrase. We are just trying to read. I'm
just trying to read the USA Today article, Malon, I
wasn't trying to, you know, like think about that. Dogs
do rule our worlds. Like my dog owns our house.
We live around him and operate on his schedule, and

(12:16):
we are just their assistance. I mean, they are the
main characters. Okay, continue, Yeah, I'm assistant on my LinkedIn, Malon.
I guess just to go back to our tangent earlier.
If dogs really are the boss, maybe that's why they're
these movies with these guys being turned into dogs. Is
that part of it? Wow? Actually, there there are like

(12:38):
a lot of profound um poems that for when you
lose a pet or something like how we have such
a long lifespan because it takes us a lot longer
to learn things. But like dogs in their short amount
of time on earth, no like know what's up man Like,
they just appreciate life more and they're just happy to

(12:59):
be listing, whereas like we agonize over the littlest things.
You're right, Wow, dogs do I don't know. I'm just
apparently dogs rule boys. Drul Okay, it's very good, very strong,
very strong bars. I think it was definitely worth it.
We'll get that in. Uh So, back to Henry the

(13:19):
Henry the Hound, uh and their tender profile. They have
some lines on their profile here. One of them is hello,
who man, My name is Henry, but you can call
me good boy. The next one was Netflix and nuzzle
question mark. So the article goes on to say that
Miranda Morrison is the person who put Henry on the

(13:40):
dating app listing. His age is twenty three, which is
more or less accurate in terms of dog years at
the time that this article was published. Uh So, In
addition to playing doggy matchmaker, Morrison is the canine Behavior
and Enrichment Coordinator for Animal Arc Rescue in Columbus, Georgia.
Henry has been an Animal arcs no kill shelter for

(14:01):
nearly three years now. And again, this is at the
time the article is published, which is given Morrison a
lot of time to grow extremely fond of him. Uh So,
Morrison's even thought through Henry's perfect date. You want to
hear what Henry's perfect date? I actually would like to
swipe right on Henry right now and hear it from himself.

(14:21):
You know, Malin, that's so interesting that you say that,
because I have the basically there's a ridiculous news phone
that has all the apps on it. Uh tenders on there.
I pulled up Henry's profile, so you go ahead and
switch right, Yeah, you should. You should be able to
chat with him right away. All right, I'm gonna swipe right. Okay,
whoa Henry, my Henry. But you can call me a

(14:46):
good boy. Sorry, I've never had that request from men.
Usually on dating apps, men will ask me to sit
on them, but not not. But Henry will sit on
me probably right. Yes, we looking for comfortable Henry looking
for comfortable lap. No, not in a strange way. Henry

(15:08):
just generally meant in like a like a the way
dogs sit laps. Henry is so sorry English, believe it
or not. Not Henry's first language. Okay, so Henry doing
his best, honestly, thankful that it's not your first language.
I'd be a little spoops. How actually are you talking?
Or is it like a collar from up? Yes? It

(15:28):
was real? Oh that Oh is that like a documentary up?
Is it like a real Yeah? That's about my cousin. Yeah,
it was about my cousin. Anyway, let me use technology
that allows the technological advancements that allow me to talk today.
But why you why you message Henry on Tinder? You
wanted to talk. I really liked your profile. At first,

(15:49):
I was like, oh this, yeah, I thought it was
going to be rough old for applause. Oh boy, but
I actually it made me take a pause, and I
just against all the other profile is. I've seen it.

(16:10):
Really it it's superior. Oh it's supup periods. Well anyway,
so maybe Henry, So maybe Henry can tell you about
Henry idea for a perfect date. Yes please, okay, so

(16:33):
only if I can tell you mine. Okay, you go first.
Henry love to listen to people. Yeah, I'd love to
go to medieval times. It's really they wanted to. That
sounds simple enough. We can make that happen. I don't
know what to say. Allowed dogs, Oh yeah, everyone loves Henry.
Tell me tell me why, Madeline, Why is so difficult

(16:55):
to get to medieval times? I've just never been? And
then like the one time it maybe happened. Maybe you
have to get there by horseback or by time travel.
I don't know what. I just have never been, so Well,
if you don't get out there with Henry, I hope
one day someone gets you there. We'll let Henry tell
you about Henry perfect date. Henry will be picked up

(17:16):
at the shelter. That's me four car ride, you know,
I like, stick my head out window, hang out tongue.
Then me and whoever I was with, we take a
nice long walk, you know, or a hike, and then
maybe we'd even take a break for swimming. Right then
we get lunch on a patio and dine on chicken
nuggets or sweet potato fries. Right then we'd hit home

(17:39):
on a cozy couch. That's what I meant about like
sitting earlier, you know what I mean in a very
g rated way for a little like living room fetch
you know what I mean with like one of those
squeaky plush toys followed by a Netflix marathon. You know,
I don't know what you're watching these days. Some people
have been talking about different things that they're watching. I
love to learn what you're watching and much all dogs

(18:00):
go to Heaven one and two. Well, I hope, I
hope that story is a documentary that sounds great and um,
you know, so after our Netflix marathon, we'd have snuggle
fast before dozing off and have naptime. So that's kind
of what Henry's favorite time would be. That sounds actually
like an ideal date, Like anywhere outside is something that
I prioritize when I go on dates. I've been on

(18:22):
so many walking dates, so I think that sounds really good.
What made you swipe right on me too? Because we
both would have had to swipe right to meet here,
that's how that works. I know Mark doesn't know that,
but you, Henry, a frequent user of the app, um,
you would know. Sure. Well. I really enjoyed it. Seemed

(18:43):
like you act a lot, and you do like a
lot of improv comedy. I love sense of humor. You
already made me laugh many times with your different dog
related puns, and I really enjoyed that. That was cool
on the nose. Um, thank you well, Madeline, was great
getting to talk to you and as you the best
and uh, one day you find someone to take you
to medieval times, Henry out, Yeah, yeah, yeah, we're gonna

(19:10):
take a quick break here. Words from our sponsor. Yeah
yeah yeah, what amazing and crazy compose a ridiculous news.
All right, y'all and we're back, uh talking about tender
and tender news stories with our wonderful guests Madeline Evans. So, Madeline,

(19:32):
there was one other headline from the news Nibbles that
I wanted to still cover with us, and this headline
comes from BBC News. It's back from and So the
headline is dutch Man suites to legally change his age
from sixty nine to forty nine on tender. So this
is from Emil rattle Band, who was sixty nine at
the time of this article, and they wanted to shift

(19:53):
their birthday from March eleventh nine to March nineteen sixty nine,
comparing the change to identifying as being transgender. And I
really didn't like that argument at all, that those you know, inappropriate.
But they went on to say, we live at a
time when you can change your name and change your gender.
Why can't I decide my own age? He said, again,
I just don't, yeah, yeah, But Mr rattle Band went

(20:22):
on to argue that he feels discriminated against because of
his age and that it was affecting his employment chances
and a success rate on the dating app tinder Um.
And so he went on to say, when I'm sixty nine,
I am limited. If I'm forty nine and I can
buy a new house, drive a different car, I can
take up more work, he said. When I'm on Tinder
and it says I'm sixty nine, I don't get an answer.

(20:43):
When I'm forty nine, with the face I have, I
will be in a luxurious position. He further argued that
according to I'm sorry, just the word yeah, I wonder
if that's kind of like Dutch phrasing. You know, I
don't know, Um, yeah, there's a dutchman. Uh. He was

(21:04):
continued to say that his doctors say he has the
body of a forty five year old, and he described
himself as a young god, so very humble. Uh so, yeah,
it was. It was an interesting story. Again, like you know,
I don't I don't like comparing his experience to that

(21:26):
of like being transplant. That was a weird and bad
but but uh but uh but still it does bring
up an interesting question or discussion I suppose about age
on Tinder and you know, should you be allowed to
change it or not or you know, yeah, did you
have any thoughts on that? I don't think they should

(21:47):
be able to But like I get what he's saying,
he makes a good point because like if you do
feel youthful in your mind and like that, you may
be vibe with other people of other ages. Like people
will omit you. You know, people people for like the
silliest reasons your height, like religion, any sort of any
sort of beliefs, and like even if you put if

(22:09):
you're not a horoscope person and someone puts their horoscope
on their profile, like people will omit you. So like
age is also included in that. I mean, height is
the biggest one that I think men struggle with. Um,
but I do feel I mean it's just like who
we are as a society that we're villainizing aging just
in general, Like we don't celebrate it as much as

(22:30):
we should. Like people who are thirty, like my people
very close to me are just like so worried about
being thirty when that's like a beautiful thing, like age
should be celebrated instead of um, oh it's the end
of the world. And like I feel like the right
person it sounds so cheesy, will love you for who
you are and whatever age you're at. For example, Like

(22:51):
I mean I wish that I had the same celebrity
crushes as people my age, like Harry Styles. Wish, I
wish I liked people that age, But fortunately my celebrity
crushes are like Steve Martin and Billy Billy Crystal, people
who are pushing eighty. Like, so, this guy, he's got
a chance out there. All he's gotta do is be funny,

(23:14):
you know, So stop calling yourself a young god too.
That's weird. Nobody wants to be with a god. Uh.
And like, also, what didn't you something I've thought about,
because like, you know, we've were established just now that
I have a thing for older gents, um I. But

(23:35):
I also am hesitant with that because like you've experienced
so many you've had different life experiences, and like you
would want someone on the same wavelength. Then again, every
single person is different, has different experiences. I don't know,
this guy maybe just needs to move, that's the solution.
Like you just used to go to a new city, live,
prey love, that's what it's called. Right, have a Julia

(23:56):
Roberts moment, Go do some meditation, yoga, get off Tinder,
get off your couch. To be clear to the listeners,
I've been single for a very long time, but I
this is I got on this podcast because it's a
call for help. The lapp started doing it now I'm
just kidding. Well, you know you mentioned Malan you mentioned earlier,

(24:18):
you know he should get off Tinder for a bit.
Is that something that you found that you have done
where you will delete the app or get off the
app at times and things like that. Oh yeah, I
definitely deleted it and gone back on it. I think ultimately,
just like when you have a when you're focusing on
yourself and making yourself the best person that you can be,
your energy attracts other people, and like that energy can

(24:40):
even like attract people in the real world or on
the app, because you'll just be feeling good and you
won't be coming from a place of need, You'll be
coming from a place of want. I'm already fulfilled, So
I'm not going to settle with who I'm swiping. I'm
not gonna waste time. My problem is I swipe and
then I just never answer anyone. I'm a very bad
it's bad. But if you if you don't engage me,

(25:04):
like in the last like if I'm not engaged or
like laughing at the messages, then I really just don't
continue with it, which is terrible. Man. Wait, there was
something earlier where we were talking about where it was
like it seemed trans oh the dog. One friend got
banned off of Hinge for um putting up a profile
for his friend for like a dating show. And then

(25:24):
the other friend she was selling her cakes on Bumble
and she got banned from Bumble because yeah, so you
can get banned if you have a fake profile. It'll
even flag you if like I had for the longest
time my Tinder profile, the first picture was igor I
from Young Frankenstein, and I just wanted to see if,
like people genuinely wanted to see my profile. Um, and

(25:48):
that can get yeah it's not real, it's it'll get
mad at you. Well, you know, one interesting thing about
the dog article to Madeline is that it was back
from So I'm not sure if Tinder now cracks down
harder on the big profiles like you were mentioning. I
think it does. There's like a lot of verification now,
you like, in order to have your profile verified, you
need to take a selfie. But even you can get

(26:08):
swindled through that, like I was watching the Tinder Swindler,
Like you can be a real person, and someone can
still take advantage of you and be terrible Mark. But
I'm curious, Um, have you ever considered going on the
dating apps? You don't talk about your your dating life,
and in a way, this was my secret way to
find out what's going on. Oh yeah, yeah, I guess

(26:30):
your voice gets hired and hired yeah, oh yeah yeah.
Well when it comes to uh, like any kind of
personal relationships, I'm more of like the in person thing
as opposed to the dating apps and even uh or
or honestly most any kind of social media. Like I
only joined Instagram, for example, like two and a half

(26:52):
years ago, you know what I mean, and like all
that stuff, whereas before, like in in the only reason
I was on Facebook is because my fresh your college
my friends sat me down there like you're getting the
Spacebook profile, and I was like okay. And for the
first I don't know how many years of Facebook I
have the same profile pick from like New Student Week
of French New York College, you know. So anyway, all

(27:14):
that to say that, like social media, dating apps isn't
generally how like I'm moved through the world, but I
am fascinated by it, and that's why I was also
really interested to see these tender related stories. So do
you have any in person moves that you've usually used?
You know, let's talk about some other background info on Tinder.

(27:39):
So uh yeah, so let's talk about some background info
on Tinder. So this next article is from Insider by
Ron Lyons Jr. And the headline is what is Tinder?
Here's what you should know about the popular dating app? Right,
So just some quick background info on this app. So
it was founded back in matches sing will in your

(28:00):
area in this virtual all right, So when it launched,
Tinder was this innovative pioneering app and had a huge
success when it started. Uh. Similar dating apps like Hinge,
plenty of Ficient, Okay, Cupid are all owned by the
same parent company, Match Group. In general, Uh, Tinders app
functions are pretty simple, Madeline. You alluded to it earlier

(28:23):
when you had your conversation with Henry the Dog. So
you swipe indicating who you are most interested in. Uh
is a free app? Is that still free across the
board or are there pay options as well for Tinder?
So with all of the profiles you like all the apps,
you can get this standard. But then if you really

(28:45):
want to match with somebody like preferences or like you
want to sift through them a lot easier than there
are paid options, and there's so much better, but there's
so much more expensive, so which I've noticed, and this
is not like backed by any data, but just all
the men that I'm friends with pay for the app
and all the women I know don't because men just

(29:07):
have a harder time getting matches. I don't know what
it is, yeah, you know, I don't have the statistics
in front of me, but I've heard from men that
are on the app that there it's not necessarily like
quite balanced, you know, so like there are certain folks
that get much more interest than other people. So it's
interesting to who you say that as well. I don't

(29:27):
know exactly tinders algorithm, but something I've heard is that
something like hinge um they collect your data and like
based on who you're swiping, and then the algorithm will
assess like who it shows you based on like who
is liking you, so it'll show you the same types
of people, so it'll keep the hot people away from
you if the if they're not really swiping on you.

(29:51):
So they just want people to be matched with. I
guess the same level of hot is. I'm not quite sure.
It's very it's also super official and so silly, and
we're not actually looking at a person as their human
human nous. We're looking at a checklist of things that
they meet. And while that can be good for helping
to sift through things, I think that also is unfair. Yeah. Uh.

(30:15):
For some additional info stats are amazing. Researcher Casey holds
some facts from dating sites reviews dot com. Uh. And
so here's some additional information about Tinder. Um. So Ukrainians
are using Tinder's passport feature to match with Russians and
then sharing images from the war over the app to
counteract Putin's propaganda campaign. That's amazing. Yeah. Um. You know

(30:40):
we had talked about age on the app earlier. Over
fifty of Tinder users are between the ages of eighteen
and so young. Yeah. Yeah, and it is described as
like the hook up app too, So I wonder if
that's like It's interesting because I've seen on TikTok a
lot of wedding planners being like a lot of the

(31:01):
weddings I tend have met online, and most of them
have met through Tinder, which is interesting to me because
then also with so many young people, like you're not
really taking your life this is generally speaking, but like
you're not typically ready to settle down. So, um, those
people are probably more casual. I mean, your brain is

(31:21):
not fully developed. A lot of people just kind of
want to like take it easy before they figure things out.
So that makes sense for the age range and what
for the app is known for. But then it's also
like crazy that a lot of the couples that are
getting married are from Tinder. Um that's wild. Yeah. Yeah,
we will be right back with more ridiculous news after

(31:42):
this short treat Yeah, yeah, yeah, don't confuse ridiculous news
all right. Also, we're back continue to talk about news
stories around Tinder. So from UH two BBC News article

(32:03):
had a headline saying tender Women's safety now at the
heart of the app. So this article is about how
Tender started a partnership with the campaign group No More
and the aim was to end domestic violence. So the
article goes on to say, our safety work is never done. Uh.
Tenders for his female chief executive, Nata Nyborg. She told

(32:26):
that to BBC News. But Charity and Violence against Women
says it is only a quote small step in addressing
the disproportionate amount of abuse women experience online. So Tender
has faced scrutiny over abusive interactions on the service, with
concerns UH dating apps are attracting sexual predators. So Miss

(32:49):
Nyborg says one of the ways that she has addressing
those concerns is hiring more women across the company, having
increased the number working in the Tender product since taking
up the chief executive role, and that was back in September.
When she took on that role. She al says a
quote saying, I think there is a difference between knowing

(33:12):
something is important and feeling it, she tells BBC News.
They went on to say, like any woman, I can
count all of the experiences that I've had that I
maybe didn't want to have, from the way that you're
being addressed, to the way you're treated at work, to
the way things can happen when you're actively dating. UM,
we've been incredibly impressed with the uptake of verification. Madly,

(33:33):
you mentioned verification a little earlier. Uh. They went on
to say, in the months that has been live, we've
seen that almost half of our members will self select
to verify themselves. The great thing about this is is
a safety feature. Yeah that is That's awesome that they're
taking the moves to assure safety because like you really
don't know. I mean, there there's a stranger and they

(33:57):
can play that long game. It's teriff ying, honestly, and
we so easily accepted as a normal thing. There was
a guy who asked me on a date to a
hike and I instead of letting the red flag go
up of like oh, this is a stranger and going
to the woods with like my phone not being able
to have any service, instead my fear was, oh what

(34:18):
if I run out of things to talk about? A
hike is a long time to be with somebody, Like
I should be scared of the first thing that he's
going to murder me, not that I'm going to be awkward. Yeah,
well kind of along the same lines are similar topic. Uh.
There was an article by Clip Rainy for The Cut
and this is back in and so there was a

(34:39):
pub outside London called the Brickyard and they had a
sign hanging in the women's restroom that went viral at
the time um for the escape plan it sneaking provides
for their customers who are hiding out there, dreading their
return to the creep at the bar. And it's interesting
because it's just like, you know, this thing goes viral
but a and it does kind of bring up the

(35:01):
topic of safety. So anyway, the sign reads tender date
gone wrong, doesn't look like his picture or just playing weird.
If you're on a bad date and it's not going well,
come to the bar and ask for Rochelle or Jennifer
and we'll get you out of it and or get
you a taxi. Your safety and happiness is our highest priority.
If anyone is bothering you or making you feel uncomfortable,

(35:22):
please tell us. We will discreetly move them away and
if necessary, asked them to leave. The brickyard is safe
and fun. We want you to enjoy your time here.
Talk to us and it will sort it out. That's awesome.
I think I've been in like quite a few instances
where like I'm being polite instead of wanting to leave,

(35:43):
And so that's really awesome that that exists. Because your
friend isn't always on the other side of the bar,
so it's nice to know that the bar is on
your side. Then again, I feel like some men have
hated being on dates with me where they're like looking
around for the waiter. Not that I'm being like terrible.
There was one guy who I just was like, the
arts are my thing, and he was like, if I

(36:04):
had to pick one thing I hated, it would be
the arts. And I was like great, and then he
looked around. Right, it's a weird thing to say. That's
a weird thing to say. If someone's like, I love this,
you may not like it, but it's weird to be
like that thing that you love, that's the one thing.
I Yeah, it's just like, that's just it's an odd
way to put it, you know. He was like looking

(36:24):
around for the check, like it's fine. But we had
we had a fun back and forth. I think ultimately
he just wanted to hook up and then realized that
I did not want that. So many times I've gone
on dates where I'm like, I spend two hours when
I know it within five seconds that like there's no
chemistry where this person is off. It's terrible. So it's

(36:45):
nice that they have an escapegoat for that. Yeah, yeah,
well someone from the bar. The staff of the bar
at the time of this article is written said, in
all honesty, we had no idea our sign would attract
this level of attention. Again this and went viral. They
went on to say, in light of the extent of
the feedback received, we have plans in place already to
launch a similar safety campaign for men. So we got

(37:08):
one final story for you, Madeline, and the headline here
is man creates tinder Light dating app where he's the
only guy available on this from Men's Health by Andrew Daniels.
I thought this one was pretty funny, so uh. The
article says that Shinder is the brilliant work of entrepreneur, author,
product designer, motivational speaker and all around jokester shed some move.

(37:32):
The Tinderlight dating app has only one guy available for
women to date, who is smoth. As for the Shinder
app tagline, it goes quality not quantity. Uh, it's very
real at the time of this article being published, so
there's back in seen. It's very real and the forty
five year old Samove is using it to find love

(37:52):
on the day. Uh, he's already had more than a
hundred matches so far at the time of the article,
and they went on to say, I've anticipated the scarcity
of potential matches will create increased demand and with that
more chance of dating success. And he told that to
the mirror. Uh. They went on to say, I'm now
a big fish in my own pot I'm just curious

(38:14):
as downloading this though, Like what is the motivation behind
downloading this for the woman, because like I've downloaded some
of those like random maps where it promises that it'll
be great, Like there was one called Thursday, so every
Thursday it would open up and you'll meet people around
your area to go on a date that day. But
then I was like, I'm not really getting anything from this.

(38:34):
So who are the women? Like a hundred people? That
is so many people? What how how much money did
he put into marketing? I I'm so curious. Well, it
says that they're motivational speaker, author entrepreneurs, so maybe they
have a social media audience. I'm discussing maybe the Dutch

(38:55):
guy needs to do this. Uh, I guess it can
also help. I'm mean the fact that this guy is
prominent in society in some way, like he has a following.
There are some things that have made me be like
maybe like there was a Japanese billionaire who was like
put out an application. I don't know how old he was.
He was like in his forties, but you know how
they're sending a flight to the move for like just

(39:19):
normal people. Yeah, so that like he had a goal
to have all these different artists to capture the experience,
artists of all different backgrounds, so like actors, painters, sculptors, whatever.
And then he was also put on an application for
his wife, and I was like, maybe I'll fill that out,
so like, not just because he's a billionaire, but his
profile was also like I like, I want somebody who's

(39:40):
active and fun and and appreciates things. And I like
that maybe, uh, Mark, before we close this out though,
because I feel like you want to close this out.
I just wanted to know about like your worst stating experience.
Oh man, you know that's crazy and that'd be a
great thing to talk about next time. We're gonna move on.

(40:00):
We're gonna move on to our spring of inspiring inspirations.
This is where we end things with an inspirational quote.
Can I share my Tinder date? Oh? I love for
you before we close it out, because this is only
about tender Yeah yeah is that okay? Yes? Yes, yes,
please please you may have heard about it on stage,

(40:22):
but this is so. This is the guy who swiped
right in my igore from Young Frankenstein. And in the messages,
he promised that we would watch a mel Brooks movie,
and so I was like, hell yeah, I hadn't seen
all of them yet. I had never seen Blazing Saddles. Uh,
so gotta watch it. Um, it's a little outdated, but

(40:44):
I wanted, you know what, I wanted the cultural experience.
So we met. Um, we were supposed to get yogurt,
and then it was like ten pm in Athens on
a Monday night, so there was no yogurt open. So
I like texted him and I was like, hey, where
are you? And he wasn't there. So I went go
pick him up in my car and then I brought
him on top of a um an abandoned parking lot

(41:07):
because I was like the view there wasn't really a few,
but like, where else am I going to take in
my dorm? I was an RD, so I only lived
in dorms and we weren't allowed to have people stay
the night. Um. Yeah, so like I'm the killer in
this situation, and we were like looking over the campus,
like he just trusted me. I just took him to
an abandoned lot. Uh, we're looking over the campus and

(41:29):
he was like, so, why do you new marketing? And
I was like, oh, relationships in connection. I was like,
why do you do physics? And he's like, I want
to see the blueprint of God's mind, which I thought
was the cheesiest thing in the world. I was like,
but that's actually really sweet now that I think about it.
But I was like, gag. And then he was like,
we should go on a second date. And so then

(41:49):
we went to a second date to church and held
hands to during the our father. Uh so wow, steamy
that you're supposed to with hands, but like wow action um.
And then the third date was at his place and
he gave me a tour of his small apartment and like,
I had never really been on dates really, I don't know.

(42:11):
I had like a serious boyfriend for a while, but
that was like high school to college and like this
was like my first actual like I guess grown up.
I was like maybe twenty, he was twenty three. He
felt so old. Um, but like I'm looking around his apartment.
It's two two rooms and there's no TV insight the date.
We were supposed to watch mel Brooks movie Blazing Saddles

(42:32):
no TV. Inside. I stood on the floor. He sits
on the food tone and he was like, do you
want to sit on the food ton? Why are you
sitting on the floor. It was like because it's comfortable.
And then he started doing magic. Um so when you
say he started doing magic, what do you mean? Like
really simple things like the pulling the nickel out of
the ear, like I knew it was in his hand

(42:52):
and he just like would do that and I was like, yay, great.
And then he went over to his bookshelf and he's
started reading the Bible in German and then I was
like cool. And then he started reading it in Greek
like he was trying to impress me. He started reading
all the Bibles and I was like, yeah, I go
to church, but like I'm not that serious. Also what

(43:12):
and so then like we sat on the footon to
watch Blazing Saddles in his lap. I'm so mean his
laugh really annoyed me. Um, it really ruined the movie
for me, just so I just so I can really
be there. I wish I could remember it. It made me.
It irritated me so much though that I was like
when he put his he put his arm around me
and started like doing a weird scratch on my shoulder,

(43:35):
and then he tried to kiss me and I made
a zombie noise and he was like what and I
was like, uh. I just was like and I explained
to him like I was like, oh, like usually takes
me a while to like, you know, I want to
know you before like we are intimate in any way,

(43:57):
and he was like cool, cool, I get it, I
get it. Gives thirty more minutes, tries to go for again,
and I'm like uh um. And then he was like,
do you want to see let's do you want to
see the bedroom? And I was like I already saw
it when we had the tour of the house and
like probably looks the same, uh. And then like I
was like you know what, I should go, and I

(44:18):
leave and as I'm going to my car, I don't
really curse lap, but I was like fun function like
whispering underneath my breath. And then I saw him at
the door and it's a screen door, so he could
hear me. And that's it. That That was That was that.
So did you ever see him again after that? Our
community on the bus. I saw him on a bus
like years later. I think he found love. I sometimes

(44:41):
I'll look at his Facebook. We never friended each other
on Facebook or anything, but yeah, do magic on a
date if you're good at it. I guess I've had
a guy juggle for me. People are just I think
they think I'm recruitment recruiter for this arcus Malan. I
know we're wrapping up, but I just out to know, Like,
so you've had magic, you've had juggling, you've had the

(45:03):
Bible reads in German and Greeks, all right, yeah, what
other things have you had performed for you on on dates?
This is pretty fascinating. I had a guy. He didn't
perform it to me, but it was like seven months
after the like we had three dates in one week
and then kind of cut it off. But for eight

(45:24):
months after he would text me every so often, so
he has to send me a poem. And then he
sent me when I ignored that, he sent me a
song from the Heather's musical which goes you make my
Balls So Blue? And I was like, is this supposed
to win me over? Because I haven't responded to you?
And then after that he sent me a very long
text about religion and like philosophy, and I was like,

(45:46):
this doesn't match up. You're trying everything, Like, oh my gosh, Well, y'all,
let's move on to the spring of inspiring inspirations. This
is when we share an inspirational quote to end things
on a positive note. This one comes from my Angelo
