Speaker 1 (00:06):
Welcome to Induction Vault, a production of I Heart Radio
and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame Induction ceremony is about to begin.
It's time to take your seats. In two thousand seven,
rock and roll legend Keith Richard's inducted Ronnie Spector, Estelle
(00:28):
Bennett and nder Tali a k a. The Ronetts. Growing
up in New York Spanish Harlem, these women share dreams
of success and fame through the power of their immense vocals.
Pete says the scene of a nineties sixties music club,
dark hallways, the haze of cigarettes smoke, the lights of
the stage, and the wall of sound above it all
(00:50):
the Ronet siren voices sore, emanating out into the streets
and onto the radio, shattering racial and social barriers in
the process. The Ronets accept this award by thinking everyone
on their journey from their humble beginnings to a Hall
of Fame induction. Nador highlights their lasting impact on girl
groups in the form of a tougher, edgier sound and
(01:12):
a sexier, more confident image. They didn't know it at
the time, but the Ronets planted themselves into the sonic
memory of rock and roll and in the hearts of
generations to come. So you know, giant strides have been
(01:34):
made in medical science lately. And this is why I'm
able to be able to say to you, good evening,
ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame. It works one. I guess I gotta set
(01:58):
the scene here, um ha ha ha um, and I
would take you back to a little, dark, dank, little
theater in London or north of England. I think a
(02:18):
d not busy. I'll shut up and on the road
as usual, you know. And I climbed out of now
a little cubicle, and I'm walking down that corridor and
(02:41):
it's green, it smells, it's damp, and it's dark, you know.
And as I get to the stairwell, I started to
hear these voices. I think I've already, you know, am
I overdone it already? But as I go down the stairwell,
I hear it's beautiful little chance set up by ned Arnist.
(03:06):
And I realized I'm listening to the ronnets and then
that pure, pure voice over the top singing beat my baby,
And as I went I got a command performance, you know,
all to myself from these I realized, despite Jack Newts's
beautiful arrangements, but they could sing all their way right
(03:30):
through a wall of sound. They didn't need anything. M. Yeah,
they've touched my heart right there and then, and they
touched it still. And so I guess to cut the
long story short. Let me say, let's welcome on Veronica
(03:51):
Bennett and the Ronets. After the break, we'll hear the
Runnets accepting speeches on the Rock and Roll Hall of
Fame induction vault. Than yourself. God, M we waited so long.
(04:22):
I mean we really waited long. You know, we went
through a lot of ups and downs. But uh, we're
here and we're inducted into the Hall of Fame at
the World Off. I mean I grew up like a

wanted to do was sing rock and roll. Uh. And
now to be honored this way, it feels like like
(05:26):

hundred blocks north uh and Spanish arlem. Um. Never thought
(05:48):

from emer tonight at the Apollo Theater to dancing on
the els at the Peppermint Lounge and singing with Joey

Thanks to Frankie Lyman my iol for the inspiration. For
three years from nineteen six to nineteen sixty six, we
had the best times getting ready to go on stage.
(08:54):
Our dresses slit up the sides, I'll be hives up
to here with hairspray aquin it so did stay up
um Uh. The excitement from the crowd baby when we
would walk on on stage, whether a riot broke out
(09:15):
or boys were rolling around on the floor having orgasms.
When we performed live, I always said we weren't better,
we were just different. Thanks to those people that stood
by my side, by our side for the last couple

in the seventies with the line, so many faces in
(10:53):
and out of my life, so will laugh, so will
just be now and then. It's so true now and there. Okay.
So my last and biggest thanks goes to my partner

(11:17):
oh stream and downs, he never left my side, Jonathan Greenfield,
And to all my fans, thanks for remembering. It's been

very much for giving us this award. Thank you. I'm
a sellable by next. Thank you, Yeah, thank you, Stum,
(12:03):
thank you Ronnie. I would like to thank each and
every one of you for being here this evening, for
being a part of a dream of three young girls
fifteen seventeen, eighteen sixteen, those years in New York City,
which is a very big city. We were born and
raised here. We had a dream. But with a dream,
(12:26):
they need you need to have people behind you with
your dream. For us, my mom knocked on doors when
people didn't want to hire and and put under contract
three young pretty girls that they said, we're going to
change their minds down the road. I thank you for that.
God knows what you've done. But first of all, I
would like to say that I would like to thank
(12:48):
my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for being in my
life and making me who I am today. For saving
my life through open heart surgery. For are giving me
a husband that we're celebrating our fourtie anniversary. M for
(13:09):
for wonderful children, make me who I am. For six
more than wonderful grandchildren. For the family, thank you, I
love them. Show Business is a thing that it can
be great, but it can be bad too, and I
know that's that's really true. And for us, we had
(13:31):
a family that gave us a core to help stabilize
us in a very difficult, crazy world. It was a
fun time. I thank God truly for it. I thank
God that I'm here tonight and that we as the rawnets,
are being acknowledged for what we gave, but I didn't
(13:52):
have any idea what we were giving. I was very,
very young, and I didn't know that. You know, we
were setting style us for girls and and like the
Paul Shaffer's of the world who fell in love. I
didn't know that, honestly. But I thank every fan that
kept us in their hearts and in their minds for
(14:15):
all these years. Thank you for playing the music to
your children and to your children's children, and for the Ronetts.
I say for the unborn children that the Rock and
Roll Hall of Fame is going to give a platform
for us that down the road a hundred years from now,
(14:36):
they're going to remember us, and they're going to remember
your generation, and they're gonna remember your music, and they're
gonna remember what you gave. And for each and every
person that helped us to be who we are, I
truly thank you. And for anybody I forgot, please forgive me.
