Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to Santa Cast, a production of I Heart Radio.
Well hello there. When we last left off, Snowball had
discovered something very important, the belief a meter that the
elves had been using. It turns out it wasn't measuring
joy at all. It was measuring doubt, and every time

(00:23):
Santa doubted something, the meter dropped. Unfortunately, we found this
out just as Snowball dialed a kid who isn't even
sure if Santa Claus exists. So the belief of meter
is measuring a whole lot of doubt right now. If
Santa doesn't believe in himself, who will. He's going to
have a hard time delivering his Christmas gifts if his
sleigh can't even get off the ground. Hello Seasons, Greetings

(00:46):
from the North Pole. This is Evergreen the Elf. Who
am I speaking with? Hello Marston? Rumor has it you
may or may not totally believe I'm real? Yeah, now
tell me a little bit about that. What made you
think that? Well? Okay, magazines, I saw a magazines. I

(01:10):
saw stalking stuffers, stalking stuffers. And why did that make
you think I wasn't real? Because you usually for sure,
for sure, you know, like I said in the beginning.
It's a whole team effort. I I go around and
I visit all of you boys and girls, But I
don't necessarily do every single bit of the work on

(01:33):
my own. Do you know? I'll tell you a secret. Sometimes,
in very rare occasions, I'll also get the help of
moms and dads. They do some of my leg work.
Does that make sense? And Santa does not skip leg day?
Let me tell you? Amen? Now? What else? What are
some other reasons? I heard that you were reading some
books by that that Nancy Drew girl. Is that true?

(01:56):
Tell me a little bit about her. She's been a
troublesome presence in my world for some time, and she
solved mysteries and my favorite is UM. I forgot what
it's called, but it's like about two pages long, okay.
And she taught you about deductive reasoning? Is that right?
M Tell me a little bit about that. What is

(02:19):
it thinking clues? And um getting evidence in proof sold mysteries?
So what what sort of evidence did you collect? Well?
That the two fairies real? What are you talking about?
Your talking about Marigold? We know Marigold, we're very very

(02:41):
old friends. If she were here right now, listening to
you say that she was not she would laugh so
hard all of her teeth would fall right out of
her mouth. Yeah, that's an expensive amount of teeth right
there too. I can't believe she thinks marigold is not real.
Oh tell me what, give me some more evidence? Please?

(03:02):
Your case is weakening by the minute. Well, I know
she's not real because, um, I know it's my mom,
because my mom told me he wasn't real, asked after
I figured out that her handwriting's exactly like my mom's. Well,

(03:23):
do you think you know? It's a bit of a
catch twenty two because if you start to believe in that,
the magic dies. Did you know that? See when when
people tell you these things, and they tell you these
things for all kinds of reasons, who knows, But when
you start to believe them, the magic starts to fade away.
For example, you believe in the wind, right have you

(03:46):
ever seen it? Can you grab it? No? You can't,
But it's real. And if someone told you the wind
wasn't real just because you couldn't see it, what would
you say? That's not true? That's right now? How do
you know the wind is real? You can feel it? Ah,
because you can feel it and you can break it.
I know I've broken wind a couple of times already

(04:07):
while we were on this call. Evergreen is one of
our most special elves. Do as he says, not as
he does, so you can feel the wind, right. It's
the same with Christmas magic. It's not something you can
grab ahold of. It's not something you can prove like
two plus two equals four. It's something that lives inside

(04:31):
your heart and inside your mind. And that's why you
have to hang onto it because if you let it go,
it dies. And you know, I get a lot of credit,
I'll tell you for all the presents and all of
the Christmas magic. People think it's me and my reindeer
and my elves, But you know what the source of
Christmas magic really is people you love. It is it

(04:55):
is spending time with the people you love. And it's joy.
Little boy and little girls like you, filled with joy
and spreading Christmas cheer throughout the earth. That's what Christmas
magic is made of. Okay, let's get away from all
the metaphysical mumbo jumbo and all of that. I didn't
come here to start a fight with you. I just

(05:15):
wanted you to understand that. Oh you know, Marston, I'm
feeling a bit dry throated. I've had a lot of
cookies this morning. Do do you think you could do
me a favor. I I just poured a glass of
milk and put it in your refrigerator because I may
have to come by to do a little Christmas prep work.
Can you go and check and make sure that that's

(05:37):
there for me? All right? If you open the fridge,
it should be right inside there. Hey, oh good, it's
delicious milk. Fantastic. I just I wanted to you know,
sometimes I can I can see things when I create them,

(05:57):
but I wanted to make double sure that it was
gonna be there when I come by, uh this evening. Now, listen,
you can stay up and look for me all you like.
But I know all of you kids tricks, and I
can work around you, So don't worry a thing about that.
Would you keep that milk in the refrigerator for me? Fantastic?
It'll be gone by morning. I appreciate it. Marston, You're

(06:18):
a wonderful girl. I think, deep down you do believe.
I think. I think sometimes as we grow up the
world just kind of presses in and makes it a
little tougher to keep on believing, but you keep that
joy and you keep believing. Okay, Okay, I hope you
have a merry Christmas. Thank you. Don't drink that glass
of milk please, No, that's mine, Please leave it. Okay Bye,

(06:46):
I just broke wind again. Whoa, that was an incredible interview.
Just listen to what we picked up on the jingle jangle.
I think you need to hear this. Really fantastic. The

(07:12):
Christmas belief a meter just went through the roof. Wow, hey,
look at the belief a meter. It's it's really climbing.
It's like, whoa, Like it's glowing. It's getting very hot.
That's too much hitting. The belief ameter just exploded. Oh no, no,

(07:35):
we're really flying blind. Oh no, we're not, not by
a long shot to my sleigh. It's the night before
Christmas and I've got a job to do now. Dasher now,
Dancer now, Prancer and fiction on comment on Cupid, on
daughter and blitzen. Wow. Santa learned something very important tonight,

(08:06):
something about himself. He learned that he didn't need a
belief a meter. He just needed to believe in himself
because when you believe in yourself, anything is possible. It
was just the boost that he needed to take him
on his trip around the world. So tonight Santa will
visit all the houses of all the kids he talked
to on this podcast, and don't worry, he'll visit your
house too. While he's out delivering presence, He's sure to
have all kinds of adventures and if you check back

(08:28):
in tomorrow you can find out how things went on
the big night. In the meantime, Happy Christmas, listen for
sleigh bells, and if you do see Santa tonight, tell
him Merry Christmas and let him know we're all counting
on him. This episode of Santa Cast was recorded in
