Speaker 1 (00:03):
Have you ever thought about how incredibly complex I spit is.
It may only be water, but just aliva isn't simple.
That remaining one holds incredibly meaningful information that could change everything.
And I'm not just talking about your family treat Hi.
I'm Barren to day Thurston. And on this season of

(00:24):
Spit and I Heart Radio podcast with twenty three and Me,
we explore how DNA isn't just about ancestry, it can
also be key to understanding your health. Hey you, and
welcome back. Now. We've had plenty of episodes a Spit
that make you think. Today we're also going to make

(00:44):
you laugh because this episode features comedian Frankie ken yonez
of The Very Funny Frankie Kenyon Show here to share
his experience with twenty three and Me. Frankie took a
test along with his mother, and they recently sat down
to discuss their results. Frankie's mom was very excited to
learn about her family's ancestry, but maybe she was a

(01:05):
little more excited to learn that Frankie shares fifty point
seven percent of her DNA. The way she sees it,
Frankie's technically made up more of her than his father.
Boom Braggon writes that she is more than happy to
gloat about for the rest of her life. Now. As
these two dive into their health reports, Frankie shows his
mom how the information provided by twenty three in Me

(01:28):
can help him take better care of himself in the future.
From eating better to discussing reports with his doctor, it's
all helpful for Frankie. And along the way, there might
even be an appearance from the Frankie Kenyon shows very
own creeper if you know, you know either way, let's
listen in. Hey, what's up, homies? Is frank I'm excited today.

(01:55):
I'm interviewing my mother. Yeah, yeah, say what's up? Mom? Hey,
what's upp We have teamed up with twenty three and
me and both my mom and I participated in it,
got a reports back. It's actually been a really cool experience.
And so what have you? What do you know about
twenty three and me? Uh, you know what I heard
about it from you, from family and friends, and I

(02:16):
was a little like, what is this? You know, I
was a little apprehensive at first, but then I got
a little more informed and learned more about it, and
I thought it could give me some health guidelines, find
out about more about my ancestry, which was really a
big question mark for me most of my life. So

(02:38):
I thought if it could give me a general idea, yeah,
I'm in Yeah, that's what's so. I just figured I
was a mutt. I didn't know. I I thought I
was just a combination of a whole bunch of stuff,
because my uncle used to say, we had some French,
we had some I don't know, a bunch of stuff,
kinds of stories. Yeah, just just I just went along thinking, hey,

(03:02):
I'm just a much you know, just a mixture of
all kinds of goodness. And here I am actually on
my report right in front of me. Yes, so let
tell us about that. Okay. So I got my report
and it, uh, thirty six percent Native American and uh

(03:25):
uh what is it like? Fifty six percent Southern European.
And my family always said we came from Naples, Okay.
But what I was really excited about is this really
gave us the region. Okay, I didn't realize Naples was
like a big general region. This pinpointed it too. We

(03:47):
came from Campania sicily Lazio Embassy like Okay, So I
think I just thought, Okay, Naples, but this like kind
of narrow it down gave us more of a general
idea of where our roots came from. So I was
excited about that. And you know, I have family in

(04:10):
Texas that are from the the what tribe that I
growing to love all these years, you know, and my father, um,
that's his brother, and I love my uncle Joe Man,
chief of the tribe in El Paso, Texas, and so

(04:33):
we assumed we were related. Um, of course we are,
because you know they have the but the Indian side,
the Indian side, you know, we didn't know what the
other side was. So but when this came back that
you know, thirty six whatever it said, it was exciting

(04:55):
because I love my people and they're the people that
have given us so much love. And it's like this
brought us brought a greater connection to that love that
our family has given us. Yeah, yeah, I was you know,
I wasn't surprised. I was like, I know him, you know,

(05:16):
Native American and you know, Mexican whatever, and it's like,
you know, but I know, you know, it says forty
four point one percent you know, Spanish and Portuguese la,
but you know, obviously that Spaniards, you know, it took over. Hey,
you know, Grandpa Marcelino used to go around saying to
Grandma Carman, hey, I'm from Barcelona. She you know, she

(05:36):
used to tell him he was full of it. You know,
you're not from Barcelona. He say, I'm from Barcelona. Well
it came back Barcelona, so hey, Grandpa sla. She went
to the grave not believing that, yeah, you're not from
barcelonadn't have three back then? He said, no, yeah, Grandpa
Marcelina was right on he was from Barcelona. Yeah, dang, Yeah,

(06:00):
calculations were calculations three back then to prove Grandma Carmen wrong.
Yeah yeah, no, Grandpa Carmen would tell him he was
full of it. Yeah yeah yeah. And then on mine
also found some Portuguese in there. Yeah yeah, yeah, that's
what this is. So yeah. But also that I was like,

(06:20):
it was a thirty seven thirty eight percent. Let me see,
I was thirty eight percent Native American. Also, I was like,
I was surprised by that. I thought it would be
a smaller. How much it's like thirty eight Oh really yeah,
well then dad must have some Native American in him.
Then Yeah, we gotta get him. Came out that to

(06:41):
get a report from twenty three minutes. Wow, okay, hook
us up with a discount, get another chest. Yeah there
you go. There you go raise your arms up high
on me, all right, Hi, like if you're at at
BoNT on me and you're trying to reach for the
good serially, you know what I mean, Like the Coco
crispies or the frosted plates are on the top shell,

(07:04):
all right, and it's a trip on me because I
heard that they like nowadays on me they have a
sour patch kids cereals a and even a marshmallow fruity
pebbles on me. But I don't recommend those on me
because you know they preb too much sugar and you
don't wanna, you know, get that to your kids because
you won't be able to calm them down for days
on me, and they'll probably like take your car keys

(07:25):
and flush them down the toilet or throw them on
the neighbor's roof, even on me. And then you gotta
go with there, and that's the neighbor like, hey, I'm
gonna need to get on your roof right now. And yeah,
the neighbor might be cool or even down to help it.
But after a while that's gonna be taxing on me,
on them and the neighbor relationship or whatever. So I
suggest that you stick to the more o g healthier options.
They like Raisin Brand or Captain Crunch. So keep reaching

(07:49):
up on me as high as you can, as high
as you can, all right. You should fill the stretch
on me all the way up and down your try
sera three, pass your oblique. Kids, toll on me, all right, okay,
good job. Okay. Now, as we all know, there's a
lot of negative energy in the world. They go, he
hold on, you know what, Hold up a real band.

(08:11):
Can you play that that track real quick on me,
the one that that sounds like dolphins and the forests
or whatever? Yeah, alright, yeah, right there on me, right there. Okay,
everybody close your eyes on me, all right, and just
listen to my voice as we reset your mind, like
they say in the meditational communities or what there. Alright,

(08:33):
so close your eyes and breathe. Let me take a
deep breath, then exhale. All right. Now, we all know
there's a lot of negativity in the world on me,
and we need to make changes all right, and it
starts with yourself on me all right. That means take
care of you first. So recently I teamed up with

(08:56):
the good people at twenty three and me on me
all right, and they hook me up with one of
those their tests on me to like examinate my my
DNAs on me all right. So you know, I don't
want to get all technicals of there, but that's what
they do, homie, Like that's their job, you know. So
they're pretty good at that alright. So trip out the
reports suggests that that I may be predisposed to gout

(09:18):
all right, homies. So I said, oh dangn you know
trip out on gout? Uh. So I knew that I
had to make some adjustments in my life, all right.
Like I went to my Asian homies party recently, and
I don't want to get you know, like stereotype anything
or anything like that, but you know, it's just like
Asians on me. They like to eat a lot of muscles.
And so you know, we're there, homi, and it must

(09:39):
have been like about thirty people there, HOI all right,
and they were just you know, getting in and HOLDI
and anti musks. You know, I'm just going in there
and you know, and when they were done with me,
the grandma would come out with another pot of muster day.
They were just like it was like all you can need,
you know what I'm saying on me, even the babies
hold me. The babies were eating muscles. It was a trip,

(09:59):
I said, dang. You know, they went straight from the
bottle to own their macky muscles like that from everybody.
And they were like, hey, creeper, come join us on
me and I was like, hey, nah, I can't because
you know I may be predisposed to gout. But happy
birthday to Holmie, and I brought you a gift and everything,
so you don't trip on me because I'm not eating
muscles right now. But I don't even think they hurt me, Homie,

(10:19):
because they were so busy slurping and the scallops off
those muscles. I mean, like like all crazy. You know,
it was like the orchestra of slurping, Homie. But that's
either here nor there. HOI. The point is you gotta
stay focused and keep it moving right, take care of
yourself on me all right, and they'll respect that. Don't trip.
So the twenty three and Me is a good thing,
homie to help take care of yourself, all right, because

(10:39):
the more you know, the better, homie. All right, Like
my Primoto mass, I mean, this bottle might be the
hardest fool that you've ever seen. On me, all right.
When he's shrutting down the street, people like they would
just walk to the other side HOMEI because he looks
like he's done some things. Excuse me, but I bet
that that fool just has gout hey, you know what
I mean. And that's why he walks like that, in fact,

(11:00):
on me, like his lady was was begging me to
tell him to tell Tom to get the twenty three
and me. But you know, I'm not gonna tell him
because you don't. You don't talk about those like that
like to do anything on me, you know what I mean.
So I'd stay on me. I had got a test
and I hid it in the hood of his round
plow with true story home me right there in his
car on me. And I don't know if he took

(11:21):
it or not, but his lady told me a week
later that they all went to Sizzlers on me and
that he didn't need any shrimp or state and he
just asked for a sally so in conclusions or whatever.
On mean, continue to think positive things. Hey, all right,
and take care of yourself so that we can take

(11:43):
better care of each other on me, right, okay, so
hey that's a real band, So turn the lights on me.
All right? Are you guys got a jam to home?
Because there's a neck classes waiting outside already? All right,
all right later, Okay, the one thing that you kept
throwing in my face is like you better recognized, ful, Yeah,

(12:05):
you better recognize Okay, it shows a what was it
the percentage that I'm your son? Or fifty point oh
seven baby, fifty point seven? Okay, so you gotta got
my DNA more of my dna? M yeah for that
just chilling rate thor like yeah, that explains that craziness. Yeah,

(12:30):
so yeah to the listeners, she's been like throwing that
in my face, you know, like any time something happens
to a fifty point seven fifty point seven seven, fifty
point oh seven point oh seven, fifty point oh seven,
you're mine, You're more of mine, You're more of mine.
I'm like, okay, I get it. That's right. So thank
you twenty three, me for thank you twenty three and

(12:53):
me for confirming what I knew all along. Yes, but
this was exciting to go through. You know, yeah, what
about all the the other information or you've got some
of your health stuff in there. Yeah, but I'm good, homie,
all right, you're the one with the issues. Hey, these hey,

(13:18):
these these reports are not definitive, all right when it
comes to the health. So now we're moving to the
you know, the health side of of the twenty three
and me reports. And so you say you're good huh yes, son, okay,
so that that must be on the other half of that,
oh seven, okay, yeah, yeah, yeah, just a little awareness

(13:41):
to look out for, you know, but you know, like
you're everything in life, you know, just tread lightly right
right right. Yeah. The first one that came up from
me was type two diabetes. You know, it's typical likelihood
and uh my DNA. But it's interesting because you can
and you know, on the app right here in the
twenty three mapp, you can you know, click on all

(14:03):
these things and it gives you information on things you
could do, preventative things you can do to avoid that,
and you know, diet and stuff like that, and just
just lets you know, what what what you know type
type two beauties, entails and all that stuff. So that's
pretty cool. Yeah, because you're not. It doesn't like scare me.
It's just like, hey, you know something helpful hints. Yeah,

(14:25):
there you go to some day, you know, check this
out and you're you know, DNA. There's things you could
do to prevent it, which is like you said, though
with anything, you know, but it's just well, mine does
say I'm a cop out. Now mine does say silly
ac disease, slightly increased risk. Okay, but it's just you know,
like you say, not definitive. You know, it's just but

(14:48):
I do get heartburned with too many tacos, so you
know that who does it? So you know, tread lightly Yeah,
where you like when you're when your mind saying Mr
Tackles saying no, no homie, because yeah there's a risk,
there's a risk, slightly increased risk. Okay yeah yeah so

(15:13):
so maybe you know, just Bi Tackles are not sick. Yeah,
so it is a nice guideline, nice guideline. Yeah. It
was cool though to see that there was you know, stuff,
all the stuff that wasn't detected. Also you know, yeah,
that was kind of an upper like oh hell yeah,
I'm like, did you say that? Okay? Yeah, okay, like yeah, okay, yeah,

(15:39):
pretty good. Here, I have familial hyper cholesterol cholesterol mida. Yeah, okay,
that's on your daddy's side. Okay, because I just had
my physical. My cholesterol is one se okay, perfection, Well
yeah I would mom. I'm saying that it wasn't detected
in me. Okay, I thought it were. There was a risk. No, no, no,

(16:03):
can I enjoy that? Or you go? Hey do you
do you shine? Shine? But hereditary? Uh emilio diosis? Am
I saying that right? Emy Lloyd Doss, emy Looy Doss.
Yeah yeah, so that's t TR related. So basically like

(16:25):
like the heart stuff is looking good, you know good,
it's mostly uh yeah yeah, just that that diabetes I
gotta look out for. Hey alcohol, Yeah yeah, hey, they
ain't got real with me? Made I contact Hey alcohol? Okay, Hey,
well you know you're you're you want to take that

(16:47):
precautionary road here, Yeah yeah, yeah, I don't know. You know.
Three and Me is giving us some good advice here
from ram Check and Freathing Company. You've heard of twenty
three and me getting ready for twenty of them. We
showed twenty people claim to be signists on TikTok a

(17:07):
photo of you, and then they tell you what hereditary
issues they think you might have. This is for entertainment
purposes only, and it's not based on any twenty three
and me service or reports. I send a photo myself
to twenty and then, and they had said that I
looked like my ancestors quote fell out of the ugly
tree and hit every frinch on the way down. I

(17:28):
don't know how there's it's helpful. We never promised value
full feedback. I showed twenty of them a photo of
my wife and I and they made a TikTok saying
I have good news and bad news. You can both
do better. Um. It went viral. I just don't think
these are real scientists though. I think these are like
roast comics or something. And I'm pretty sure this is

(17:49):
just an old Ronnie Dangerfield joke. Actually it's called street joke. Sucker.
If you can't take the heat, then get out the kitchen. Um,
why wouldn't I just use twenty three and me. Um,
you're ugly. That's twenty in them. Brought to you by
ram Check, not affiliated with twenty three three MS legitimate
helpful service. We are not, nor do we claim to be. Also,

(18:12):
your head looks like your neck is plowing the bubble
twenty and them from ram check. And and it makes
sense because it's it pretty much is a line with
every last you know, physicals I've had, even recently, my
heart has been in good condition or they even mentioned
it like wow, you got a great heart rate or

(18:34):
you know, they so this is in line with that.
It's cool enough. So it's it's kind of cool because
I was I was a little bit like, oh man,
you know, I don't want to learn something that I
need to be scared about it. I didn't get that
feeling at all, like when I was reading the reports.
You know, it's just very like information on just hey,
these are things that to think about it. I was like,

(18:56):
you know, I wasn't like, oh my gosh, I was like, okay, cool,
it was just like thank you. You know, I didn't either.
To me, it came across as helpful hints, you know,
helpful guidelines. Here you go, you know, kind of keep
an eye out on this, just keep a lookout, you know.
That's how I took it. So it wasn't scary at all.
You know, I was a little apprehensive taking the uh

(19:19):
doing this, but after doing it, I was like, hey,
this is pretty good, feel good about it? Nice? Well
that's awesome man. Um. Yeah, so I assume we're going
to spend the rest of our lives. You're throwing me,
uh these reports in my face with the whole fifty
point on seven, and and anytime I act up, you're

(19:39):
gonna blame it on all the good stuff, all the
positive outlook here on your twenty three and me report
comes from the fifty point oh seven side of you,
the dominating side, dominating it coughed out all right, that
city right behind you over here. So anytime I act before,

(20:03):
we're gonna be like, oh, that's that forty nine point
or whatever person acting because all that good things come
from me. Yeah, that domination. All right. Well, thank you, mom,
thanks for sitting here, Thanks for doing the test. I
hope it was helpful and you liked it. Uh, yeah,
it was. It was. It was a trip going through

(20:23):
all this. And yeah. The only thing is, you know,
I've got a lot of relatives popping up here and there.
Oh yeah, no, I got I mean I think just
this week I got seventeen more cousins. Yeah, so thank
you three of you. Granddaddy was busy, Yeah, yeah it was.

(20:44):
But the cool thing I like about it too, is
like you can you keep finding more information? You know,
you go to the app and and then there's like more. Yeah. Yeah,
I've had to go back and forth several times. You know,
you don't get it in one sitting, like go through it.
You know, you gotta go back look at it again.
And yeah, but I have found it very helpful, right on,

(21:06):
right on, all right, Well, thank you and enjoying the
rest of your day or we'll be kicking it right now.
And thank you to twenty three and me. It's been
a great experience and uh definitely recommend it to all
the homies out there. Yeah, do it, do it. It's
exciting And that's it. On another dope show. Did this

(21:33):
episode inspire you to take a closer look at your
health history, your genetic makeup? Who new DNA could reveal
so much about our past while also holding the keys
to certain health insights that may impact our future. I
continue to be inspired by these stories, and I hope
you do as well. Catch you next time. Listen to Spit,
