Speaker 1 (00:01):
You're listening to Fox Sports. What is going on? Everybody?
It's me Jason McIntyre, Fox Sports Radio. A lovely April
Saturday morning out here in Los Angeles. And guess what,
Discover matches all the cash back you earn on your
credit card at the end of your first year. It's

(00:21):
amazing because discovers accepted at places in the US that
take credit cards. Learn more at Discover dot com slash
he has Nilson Report limitations apply. Hope everybody's weekend is
off to a good start. Obviously, Dodgers fans out here
this morning very amped after the extra ending win over
the Padres, a game we'll probably talk a little bit

(00:43):
about later. I know. Yeah, shocker April regular season baseball. Well,
Gavin has a good comparison, called it kind of a
Lakers Clippers ish rivalry. God he did. It was a
good game. And uh, listen, who doesn't love some baseball?
And by the way, the NBA, we love to talk
about that, but my gosh, is every single player in
the league hurt? Donovan Mitchell goes down yesterday. Now, I

(01:07):
will admit this is a little sad, but you know
what we do on this radio show A lot of
truth telling and honesty, no need to fake the funk
were We made the playoffs in my son's fantasy basketball league,
his first season doing NBA Fantasy. Yes, it is a
pay league, so we're very active on the waiver wire.
And in the first round of the playoffs, we are

(01:29):
playing a team that has done done Donovan Mitchell. So
as much as we enjoy watching the Jazz and they're no.
Number one seed, Donovan Mitchell goes down and I say
to my side, oh my gosh, we're gonna have a
shot next week to get in the money. And you know,
we kind of got all excited. And it's sad, but
that's the reality in the NBA where it feels like

(01:54):
of the league is injured. Now you want to say,
maybe a bunch of guys are load managing. But Clippers
Sixers last night, good game on paper. Clippers now number
one in the East, and Kauai is out and Paul
George is ill, but he plays anyway. Playoff p did
not get it done. Clippers lose again. A lot of
people who watched Undisputed Friday, they went to the bullpen

(02:17):
for me and LaVar Arrington. Chris Broussard, Greg Jennings and
I went after the Clippers, and my gosh, I have
not seen an angry lot on social media like that.
In a minute, y'all are angry Clippers fans out here
in l A. Oh boy, just just get ready for
disappointment in the playoffs. But I want to start the
show with the NFL Draft. We're now less than two

(02:40):
weeks away for the NFL Draft. Should be a good draft,
and I do find it funny how as we get
closer the MATC. Jones stuff starts to crystallize and then
all of a sudden, poof, it's gone. And you look
at the gambling markets, and as you guys know, again,
we've been all over gambling on the show since it started,

(03:02):
I believe five years ago, five and a half years
ago this this Saturday morning show started, and we've always
incorporated gambling. We will do NFL Draft gambling on this
show next Saturday. The markets are fluctuating wildly, and last
weekend it was like, wait a sec, how is Matt

(03:22):
Jones the favorite to be the third pick to the Niners.
Something doesn't add up, And we struck by our guns
on the show and said Justin Fields is the guy.
I went on Colin Cowherd show, Justin Fields is the guy.
What happened forty eight hours ago? All of a sudden,
Justin Field starts to move up as the favorite to

(03:42):
go number three. He went to minus one, meaning you
got about a hundred twenty bucks and one a hundred.
Then he went to minus one fifty And what is
that coming from? Well? Smoke screen season? You guys know
how it works. The agents, the teams, everybody's feeding bad
info to the media so they can get the guy

(04:03):
they want. They can put out false alarms to get
people thinking, well, this is gonna happen, and it's kind
of fun. I enjoy it greatly and trying to decipher
what's fact from fiction. He's fun. But Justin Fields through it.
His pro day looked very, very good, and you just
start to wonder, like, wait a minute, how much of

(04:25):
this is We only had one season of Mac Jones.
He couldn't beat out Jalen Hurts for the job. He
couldn't beat out to it for the job. He's a
good quarterback, but we only have one season of data
on him. Now you look at Justin Fields and he's
a two year starter, And if you want to get
real nitpicky, you can go back to when he was

(04:47):
at Georgia as the backup as a freshman, and he
came in for a bunch of spot duty and it's like, oh, well,
are we dealing with paralysis by analysis here? The more
tape you have on somebody, the more you can pick apart.
We've forgotten that Matt Jones as a junior started against

(05:09):
Auburn after two it was injured, and he threw two
pick six is there were over seventy yards. One was
a one yard pick six through two of them in
that game. Go call up Alabama verse Auburn nineteen and
you'll see Mac Jones totally vomit all over himself in
a big spot in a huge rivalry game. And he

(05:29):
had a lot of talent around him. And I know, Jason, Hey,
come on, it was only like his second or third start.
You know you can't really ding him that much. Okay, fine, Well,
Justin Fields if he was eligible for the draft after
his UH, I guess it would be his junior year
because of the transfer um. Justin Fields had forty one

(05:51):
touchdowns and three picks. Go look at that tape, he
was utterly dominant. I mean, Justin Fields is a really
talented quarterback and you put him in that Kyle Shanahan
system in San Franz, Deebo, Samuel George Kittle, that running game.
I believe San Francisco is going to make a quantum

(06:13):
leap right back into the mix in the NFC. And
we did talk about this on Undisputed Friday. Guys, I
mean after Tampa Bay, which could go seventeen and oh,
we will talk about that later. After Tampa Bay, who's
good in the NFC. I don't know if I want
to hear the Packers. I really don't know if I

(06:35):
want to hear about this back to back NFC title games,
which were losses. I had Charles Robinson on my Straight
Fire podcast this week. He talked about a beef between
Aaron Rodgers and the GM. I mean Aaron Rodgers standing
around like, hold up, I was really good two years ago.
We get to the NFC title game and you draft
my future, you draft the Packers future quarterback in the

(06:58):
first round, and then a back when we have a
really really good run in Aaron Jones like what are
you doing? And then Aaron Jones fumbles and it's awful
in the NFC Championship game, and they keep him, they
sign it to another contract. So what do you It's
really unclear what the Packers phone office is doing. And
Aaron Rodgers wins the m v P and do they

(07:20):
help him on offense in free agency? Nope, loses the center.
It's like, what is the game plan here? I can
see the Packers falling back a little bit. I don't
think anybody bought buys anybody in the NFC East. And
then you're talking about Matt Stafford and the Rams. You know,
I'm very bullish on that team. Arizona. Can they make
to jump from content, you know, pretty good regular season

(07:44):
team with an exciting quarterback and a lot of talent
to contender. It's a big jump. And then of course
you have Seattle where Russell Wilson is gonna show up
at camp and he's gonna get the side I from
half his teammates because of all his offseason comments. The
Saints lost. Drew breathes like, it's like the NFS. He's
really really shallow. I can see San Francisco. I don't
know if justin Field starts, it's by all accounts are

(08:06):
keeping Jimmy g and you give me that healthy defense
and San Friends jumping right back. So I didn't ever
buy the mac Jones is the guy. I'm sorry, I
just don't. I still think he falls a little bit.
I don't. And it's weird because I say the word
falls and it's like, well, is mac Jones is gonna
fall if he goes fifteen? Not really, because two months

(08:28):
ago and three months ago and during the season, mac
Jones was like a marginal first round quarterback and yeah,
maybe he sneaks into the first round. But I don't
think you can just call the forty niners part of
smoke screen season because what about the Bengals? And we
will talk to a Bengals beat writer later in the show,

(08:50):
because I feel like they kind of hold the key
to the draft. Falcons at four is going to be fascinating,
but it's starting to look less and less like they'll
take a quarterback. So then you're looking at five and
it's like, well, how much input does Joe Burrow have
because his guy Jamar Chase, who if you go look
at any of the tape from twenty nineteen, Jamaar Chase

(09:11):
and Joe Burrow were like an incredible combination. LSU had
a historically gay run, and it's like, Okay, do you
get JR. Mar Chase because A. J. Green's gone? Or
do you get an offensive lineman? And I had thought
all along, it's gotta be pene soul, It's gotta be
an offensive lineman. It's like, Okay, you start analyzing their
moves in free agency and you start saying, huh, Jonah Williams.

(09:33):
They did take him in the first round two years ago.
I'm kind of starting to think Jamar Chases the move.
I'm not huge on taking small wide receivers in the
first round. Jamar Chase not a tiny receiver like the
Alabama guys. And speaking of the Alabama guys, have you
looked at the odds at all, Gavin? For the Alabama receivers,
there was a lot of talk that they're gonna go
six and eight and seven and nine and now both

(09:55):
there over under is eleven and a half. And I
don't have it right in front of you, but I
think that Aiants are drafting at eleven and there was
all this smoke screen this week. Oh or the Giant's
gonna go receiver at eleven. Well, they just got Kenny Golladay.
They just added a second tight end in Kyle Rudolph,
They have Sterling Shepherd, they got a pretty good receiving corps.

(10:17):
Why are they adding a five ft nine pound receiver
at eleven? Like that doesn't make sense. I believe that's
another smoke screen and people all of a sudden they're
gonna see Waddle and Smith fall and it's gonna be like,
oh my gosh, he's super talented. Receivers are falling. No,
you don't draft. Look at the history. History can be

(10:39):
your guide here. People. You don't draft five ft ten
d seventy five pound receivers in the top ten. You
just don't. It never works out well, it just doesn't. Yes,
five ft ten pound receivers can be dynamic in the league,
but not guys you're driving the top time ten because
they're going to bad teams and the injury risk is

(11:00):
too high. So I just love everything about draft season
or less than two weeks to the draft. And I
do want to wrap up real quick with a word
on Trevor Lawrence. And if you've watched any college football
over the last three years, you know Trevor Lawrence is
a superstar. He's just start waiting to happen, and he's
kind of been a forgotten man during this draft process

(11:21):
because it's automatic that he's going number one to Jacksonville.
There was a moment where when Justin fields through six
TVs against Clemson, Oh, it's gonna be a decision for
urban Meyer at one. No, it's never a decision for
urban Meyer. Trevor Lawrence is the guy. So he's like
not been talked about at all. So then he goes

(11:41):
to Sports Illustrated and comes out with, hey, man, football
is not my identity. I love it, but I'm not gonna,
you know, go out here saying I've got to prove
so and so wrong and I've got a chip on
my shoulder like that stuff is nonsense. And I subtly,
subtly wonder if that was about Baker Mayfield and how

(12:05):
he had gone number one recently and he had this
gigantic chip on his shoulder as a career underdog that
you know what, there is no way in hell anybody
believes in me, So I'm gonna prove them wrong. And
I love to tell the story about how on this
show leading up to the draft. I said, you know,
like if the Brown say Baker won, it's not gonna

(12:27):
end well for them. It just won't. And you know,
we posted it on social media and within like an hour,
Baker Mayfield liked the tweet from Fox Sports Radio about
Baker Mayfield. It's not gonna go well. Brown shouldn't take
him one, and like that's what he was doing. He
didn't have the inner motivation to just go out and
crush it. He had to use these subtle slights. And

(12:50):
it goes back to like high school and college recruiting
and being like the number six quarterback on the depth
chart of Texas Tech as a freshman and then everybody
in front of him got hurt. He plays is really
good and they didn't offer them in the scholarship because
everybody else got healthy. And he's still like angry about that.
So he has to transfer Oklahoma and he's lights out

(13:13):
and he's saying, you nobody believed in me. I'm here,
like how long can you? How fun can you take this?
You know, like I get the chip on the shoulder.
If you're Tom Brady sixth round, you can name every
quarterback drafted in front of you. I can get the chip.
If you're Aaron Rodgers who was talked about going one,
then sat in the green room and fell to twenty,

(13:33):
and he was ticked about everybody. But you're Baker Mayfield,
you got drafted first, Like, like, why are you carrying
a chip from five years ago on your shoulder? You won,
Buddy Baker won a Heisman, Baker took Oklahoma to the playoff.

(13:54):
Baker went number one overall, Like you won. Trevor Lawrence
is he think he already sees the maturity And there's
no value in carrying a chip on your shoulder. It
just doesn't work for everybody. Some people. Again, if you're
Brady and you were like the ninth quarterback on the
depth chart of Michigan and then you fell to the

(14:16):
sixth round in the draft of Russell Wilson drafted in
the third round, I get that you can't manufacture a
chip if your first overall, you can't. You can't fake it.
Lamar Jackson end of the first round Heisman, people said
maybe he should transfer uh quarterback to wide receiver, he
should change positions. I think the former Colts GM said

(14:37):
that who Uh is now at ESPN? Like, yeah, I
can understand trying to prove that guy wrong. But at
some point Lamar went Jackson wins at m vps, like yo,
I got nothing else to prove. So Trevor Lawrence really
gets it. And and I'm not gonna go overboard. We'll
we'll talk over unders because the over unders came out

(15:00):
on Friday morning in the NFL. But I'll tell you
right now, and Gavin, maybe this is a little recency bias,
but I like some of the moves the Jags did
in the off season. I think there's some talent. I
think urban Meyer is gonna surprise the people. And I'm
looking hard at that over six wins. Now, do you
have to remember seventeen games this season Kenny win six? Right,

(15:23):
and again they're gonna do it. Seems like I don't
know if we know about the Jags yet on the
voluntary workouts thing, so it could be very similar to
last year where not a lot of practice. My only thought,
because I actually agree with you a lot on the
Trevor Lawrence thing. He's never had doubters in his life.
He's never had um. He's had haters, I'm sure, but
he's never had doubters because he's always been the number

(15:45):
one guy, going back to when he was in high school.
So I do wonder when the doubters do emerge, if
they start oh and two, oh and three, what is
that like? Yeah, and and it'll be interesting. He's going
from being the toast of college football for what three years,
basically like the man, and now he's like not on

(16:05):
the radar in Jacksonville, you know, like they're not getting
any Marquee TV games. It's like Jacksonville, you know. And
I'm not slamming Jacksonville, but that's the reality. Like Jacksonville
is an NFL outpost. Well, the other thing is the
NFL is a league where there are so many enticing
storylines to sell a game. It's not like like Baseball
Yesterday is going Kay Padre's Dodgers, we need that on

(16:26):
every Sunday Night. Yankees Red Sox isn't doing what what
with Padre's Dodgers, tisted, But the NFL you can sell
Sam Donald and Carolina on him Monday, you know. So yeah, Trevor,
you you still gotta win, you know, Yeah, he does
have to win. I think they will not immediately, but
they Trevor Lawrence is the guy folks. I mean it

(16:47):
almost just like I can't wait for NFL because free
agency was good. I think the draft is gonna be good,
and then there's this malaise with the NBA playoffs. Step
in and they better be good because I have some concerns.

stock market, and uh, I have a feeling Gavin is
gonna be able to chime in on this one. Gavin,
you loaded up on doge coin right? Oh? Yeah? Did

(17:31):
you notice that it went parabolic yesterday? It's insane. I
love it. Okay, what on earth is driving it? I
think primarily Elon Must? I think just what did Elon
Must tweet about it? Or actually I think the other thing?
Was there something with coin base, which is a major base?
Yeah right? And uh so yeah it is sword and look,

(17:51):
you can make fun of it all you want. Let
me just tell you that if you put uh thirty
dollars into it just a few months ago, that's now
worth close to two just extract. So here's the question. Okay.
And it's funny because when coin based ipo came out
it was so massive it starts to feel like bitcoin

(18:12):
has legitimacy, right, and this whole cryptocurrency stuff, it's it's popping.
So I start looking around and I'm like, wait a
secon hold up, hold up. Just three years ago bitcoin
dropped seventy in value. In between, um, it just plummeted significantly.

(18:33):
So you know, my ten year old is kind of
into this stuff, and he's like, wants to understand. I say,
here's your first job, find out why the heck bitcoin dropped.
And it looks like November is when the plummet began,
and we couldn't find the reason. Gavin, And this is
the problem for me with a lot of this cryptocurrency.

(18:53):
The answers aren't easily found, and understanding a lot of
this stuff, it just doesn't really makes sense. I agree,
it doesn't make sense, but it doesn't mean you can't
go along for the right. Yeah. I mean early sen
late is when I bought bitcoin, and it was I'd

(19:15):
have to check, I think it was around seventeen K
at the time. So I sold a bunch during the
pandemic when like in this around like January, Um, because
it had soared so much it got over to like fifty.
Now it's over sixty, so um, it feels like you're
buying two eyes. So it's like I want to avoid it.
But then it's like, well, this could go to a

(19:37):
hundred absolutely, and people think that with the doge coin
that it could get to a dollar. You know, yeah,
I don't know what's behind doge Co. I have no idea. Um,
I missed the boat on that, but I kind of
wanted to back into the NBA with that because I
don't really know what's driving all these injuries, and it's disturbing.
I thought it was a condensed off season. I thought, okay,

(19:59):
maybe it's two many games. Just they're doing four games
a week here in April. That ain't good. I know,
I know they used to do it all the time. Hello.
The league is a lot different, The style of play
is a lot different. It's just up and down paste, paste, paste,
where I have a very random observation on this three
point situation, but it's basically like you're just running up

(20:24):
and down the floor as fast as possible and jacking
threes early in the shot clock. Possessions are way up,
scoring way up. And I don't know, like, how can
the league handle these injuries? Because I'm not kidding guys.
You if you pick the top twenty guys in the league,
whoever you think they are, I would say them have

(20:45):
missed at least five games this year. The one guy
who hasn't is Nicola Yoki and he, of course is
like the doughy European dude who is in the least
great shape of all these guys, and he's not getting hurt.
And of course Yokich as a result, is kind of
the default leader for the m v P Award. And

(21:07):
I say default, and I know people are gonna like
to hear that, But okay, and beat has missed like,
I don't know, twenty games, Lebron has missed too many,
Harden's missed some Andy um you know, came over from Houston,
so some people are gonna dock him for that. But
just about anybody, by the way, Janice hasn't played in
like over two weeks, and anybody you want to mention

(21:29):
as the MVP is like has been injured. I mean,
I think there's a case for Steph Curry, and I'm
sure people are going to scoff at that and be like, oh,
you're a I can't say that on air, but um,
they're just not winning. That's the only reason Russell West
Cook didn't win when he had the triple double. I know,
Curry's not averaging a trouble double, but he's averaging like
thirty nine points of game in April. The other thing

(21:50):
Russell had was he had that record and he had
a lot of moments like that were kind of MVP moments, right,
And Steph Curry hasn't. I mean, he's gone. Any night
you watched him, it feels can you go for sixty?
That's the deal? Like, yeah, you're getting those texts where
it's like, oh my gosh, Curry's cooking. He's got thirty
at halftime. You may want to turn this on, but
they're going to lose. They're probably gonna lose. Um, he

(22:11):
gave somebody fifty and then he had like forty two
midway through the third quarter and or the fourth quarter,
gets up off the bench to go back in and
see curse, Like, what are you doing? You're not going in?
We're up by twenty I think that was the Oklahoma
City game. Was it the okay is drop is putting
out some dudes? They were like, no, I mean Yeahvin,
go look at an Oklahoma City box score. You're gonna

(22:31):
be like, who is that? And then you click on it,
You're like, oh, there's a third year guy from Tulsa
who was undrafted and you're like what what Hey, they've
got draft picks. Though they got draft picks. Sam Presty
is going to bed at night happy with the draft
picks under his pillow. He's all geeked about him. Fox

I confess I have not watched Jeopardy since Alex Trebeck past.
I know that probably makes me like not a hardcore
Jeopardy guy or whatever, um, but I just wanted to say, like,

(23:15):
I haven't watched Jeopardy all right, Uh? Coming up now?
Joining the show, he covers the Tampa Bay Bucks, and
I just wonder if this is a team that really
can go seventeen and no, because we had Greg Bdard
floated a few weeks ago here and you look at
them returning all twenty two starters. They made a nice

(23:36):
pick up this week. So let's bring in t J.
Reeves Bucks sideline reporter, Um, t J? How are you man?
Always good to be with my Fox Sports radio brothers.
As I'm an alumni, I was on Saturdays for so long,
so it feels like old times. Good to be with you,
and it's good to field calls about can the Bucks
repeat potentially a Super Bowl champions? Were not used to that. Yes,

(23:59):
this is a new frontier in Tampa. It's all we
We give all the credit to Brady, right, I mean,
the owner, the coach, the GM. They've all done a
nice job. But this is all Tom Brady, is it not.
It's it's a large portion of it. It's tough to
deny that. But one thing we preached at this time
a year ago, and I think I was on with
you at least once during the offseason, is people did
not understand how good the roster was, I mean front

(24:23):
to back, including on defense, that this team was ready
to win. And he understood that. Brady understood that last
March when he was evaluating this situation versus the Las
Vegas Raiders versus the Los Angeles Chargers roster, it was
a no brainer to look at not just Mike Evans,
Chris Godwin, Grant coming out of retirement, Cameron brad already

(24:45):
on the roster, Ronald Jones already on the roster, the
offensive line intact. But to look on the defensive side
of the ball at Shaq Barrett, and look at Lavonte
David and and know about Devin White, who just blossomed
in his second year as a former top five pick.
He understood that about this roster year. And guess what kids.
They have brought everybody back, which is remarkable for this year.

(25:06):
Can they stay healthy that's another question. But all twenty
two starters back from a year ago. They lost no
one to free agency or having to release anyone for
the salary cap, et cetera. So that's good news. Now.
I tried to look this up, t J. Has it
ever been done a Super Bowl champ returns all twenty
two starters. I couldn't find it. You're correct in the

(25:29):
free agency era, and that's the line of demarcation where
players could leave because remember before ninety four you were
basically uh in perpetual servitude to your team that drafted
you unless they cut you. That's it. There was no
free agency until so, whether you were playing for the
Steelers who were always good or the Buccaneers who were
always awful, you were. You were with that team until

(25:52):
they didn't launch you, until they cut you were traded
you well once the free agency movement could come in
and ninety four it has never been the case twenty
eight seasons later that a team in the free agency
era kept all twenty two of its starters. And again
you mentioned the GM, Jason Lyte and his staff, Mike Greenberg,

(26:12):
all those guys. We did a great job with the
salary cap to understand and have the fourth thought a
year ago, two years ago, how do we keep all
of this intact? And and frankly, Jason, they got players
to buy in and take less money. That's a whole
another discussion we could have for a few minutes. But
you've got several guys back like in Dominican sue, like

(26:32):
Leonard four Nett, that could have made more money somewhere else,
but they know they've got a chance to win here
but couldn't. Don't I know you want to say that,
you know, everybody took less money, but I think Tom
Brady basically took less money. And you know, every other
quarterback in the league is trying to cobble together as
many millions as they can, which hinders the roster and
Brady saying I'm not Brady is not a top five

(26:54):
paid quarterback next year, is he? Well, but here's the
here's the truth about all of it. A game. We
don't have thirty minutes to go into the NFL salary captainet.
It's worse than the tax code, it's worse than the
COVID nineteen guidelines from the CDC and trying to read
all of that. The bottom line is he's getting top
ten money for this year. He just got it immediately
in the form of a signing bonus because they redid

(27:16):
his deal and they spread the signing bonus out over
like four or five more years. Do any of us
honestly believe he's playing four or five more years? Likely? No,
most likely no. But they spread the money out. But
still he got his cash for one. I don't know
if there's gonna be a two Jason, but he's getting paid.
He he reworked it because he saw this is how

(27:38):
we keep Chris Godwin, This is how we keep Shack
Barrett and make him one of the top five defensive
ends paid in the league. This is this is how
we keep the band together. Um. And it's not about
the money anymore for him. We know this. He's making
hundreds of millions of dollars off the field, including with
his wife's business interests. This is about the legacy. Can
I win one more? Too? Straight away from New England

(28:02):
that it's the legacies bigger than the dollars. It's crazy
how wealthy he is and how much success he's had
in the ability he can say that, yeah, I don't
need I don't need the money this year, Let's spread
it out over five. Very similar to Jason McIntyre. They
sold their New York apartment that they were never going
to use again for like thirty one million dollars. Very
similar to your real estate. Not accurate, Um, but let

(28:25):
so let me ask you about this. Seventeen or no, Uh,
Drew Brees is gone the division. I don't want to
say Atlanta's rebuilding, but they have a new head coach.
Maybe they're gonna give it a go here Carolina. You
know they're on the come up. I like what they're doing,
but they're not there. Who's the second best team in
the NFC. That's a great question. And obviously you've got

(28:47):
teams like the Packers, like the Rams that now have
Stafford out west where you are. The Seahawks with Russell
Wilson are always going to be dangerous, etcetera, etcetera. So
I mean there are teams that can definitely play with them. Uh.
The schedule is interesting because it's the a f C
East as the opposite conference this year. That means Buffalo

(29:08):
and the Jets come here. That means to die. You
go to the Dolphins and the Patriots g I wonder
if that's going to be a primetime game Brady at
New England. Probably Uh. And then you also play the
the NFC East again and the Dallas Cowboys and the
New York Giants come calling for Tampa Bay. But you
go to Philadelphia to Washington. So that's the thrust of

(29:31):
the schedule. Uh. And they obviously added one more opponent
too with the seventeenth game. It is so tough to
have that around your neck figuratively from the beginning of
can you win them all? And you gotta see here
in a few weeks, what does the early schedule look like?
How many tough teams right in a row at the
beginning of the of the early schedule of trying to
make something like that happened. But these are fun things

(29:52):
to kick around right now. For the Bucks, NFC East
and the Fast probably the weakest divisions in their respective conferences.
I'm cu is, I guess you know. When you look
at how the the Bucks started last year, there was
some sputtering. Obviously, new playbook for Brady, new team, a
lot of new parts. But once they got hot at
the end, and then they went on that playoff run,

(30:13):
winning four three on the road and dismantling Kansas City,
they started to look like a juggernaut. There's no reason
to think that that won't carry over until next year,
right well, And believe me when I tell you that
the attitude the the it starts with Bruce arians and
his staff and Todd Bowles, who's a former head coach
obviously with the Jets, and Byron Leftwich, who will be

(30:35):
a head coach at some point. They've kind of set
the tone that last year is last year. And we
are coming back in with the attitude that you're you're
starting with nothing, zero on the scoreboard, zero in the
win column. And Brady's gonna do that too. Brady's gonna
police that as well with Hey, we did this over
and over again in New England with the same approach

(30:55):
that even though you've won it last year, and everybody
believes you're gonna win ten, eleven, twelve games in the
regular season, and it's not just gonna be handed to you.
You start with zero. You start at zero. So I
don't think that's gonna be an issue. I really don't.
And you've got a lot of veterans on both sides
of the ball that realized something special could happen here.
I know you're talking about stratosphere of seventeen and oh

(31:16):
in a regular season which because of the contract of
the schedule being extended, nobody's ever gone seventeen, and the
Patriots with sixteen and oh and then lost in the
Super Bowl, and obviously the Dolphins of the last team
to be fourteen and oh. But ma'am, we'll look that's
on the moon, Jason. That's like Pluto to talk about
getting to a chance straight win a twelve straight win
to begin a season, if it can happen. Well, he's

(31:36):
always trying to hype the NFL. I guess final question.
I don't want this to come off bad about Jameis Winston,
but I guess by saying that it automatically does man
you what you said about the strength of the roster
early on has any thinking my gosh, um, Well, I
guess Winston just is not that good of a quarterback.
He can't raise the level of everyone else around him,
which is what the elite quarterbacks do. Well, let me

(31:59):
tell you, I've had this conversation so many times that
you everybody else on the year off the year talented? Yes, no,
no question, there is talent there. The inability to stop
throwing the ball to the other team is what did
undid him in Tampa. Pick after pick after interception after interception.
He could not stay away from it, and Bruce arians
and Byron left, which couldn't help him fix it. So

(32:21):
maybe he can fix it in New Orleans with Sean Payton,
and maybe it's not gonna work there or not. I
will tell you this, he will not have a very
long leash in New Orleans if he gets the chance
if he's throwing up all to the other team. I
saw it too many times as he did. All right,
he's at buck sideline guy on Twitter A t J.
Thanks a lot. Have a great weekend, and I'm sure
we'll have you on during the season when the when

(32:43):
Tampa steamrolling, everybody always love chopping it up with my

It looks like kind of a quiet weekend in in sports, Gavin,
did you watch The Masters at all last weekend? I
watched more on Thursday and Friday. I tuned out over
the weekend because it was such a runaway and it

(33:25):
wasn't that thrilling in terms of who was there. You know,
if if speed would have would have made more of
a run, that would have been more exciting. Yeah, I'm
with you. I I watched significantly less than that. I
cannot remember turning the TV on and watching any of
it really because it was just the names at the
top were not interesting for me. On the weekend, no Tiger,

(33:45):
And there was also a little bit of we just
had a Masters. It was kind of weird. We love
I love the Masters, it's, you know, one of the tournaments,
but yeah, but we just had in November two, so
it didn't feel like yeah, I agreed at the time.
You know, you're right watching it in November, and then
again now it's like, you know, it's kind of like, listen,
we're gonna get into ratings a little bit later in

(34:07):
the show. And the Master's ratings were the worst I
believe in twenty eight years. Uh, the tournament were the
worst ratings ever in the Championship game ever, like worse
than Virginia Texas Tech, which is actually a pretty good
game a couple of years ago. And NBA ratings are
down shocker. Um. I don't think we could just attribute
this to social issues, like something else is up and

(34:30):
we'll we'll dive into a little bit later in the show.
I do want to quickly talk to about you know
how the n c A tournament like, we loved it.
We gambled on it heavily. We had a successful run.
We talked about a lot on the show. But when
you start looking at the draft and impact players like,
for for instance, um Zion Williamson, who was like a
slam dunk obvious number one pick in he's been like

(34:55):
a transcendent player. I know a lot of people are like, oh,
come on, Jason, he's not that good. That's because you're
not what. First of all, they stink because you know,
there's just not a lot of talent on that team.
And I'm not a big believer in stan Van Gundy
right now, but the number Zion's putting up are insane.
John Morant is going to have Memphis probably in the

(35:16):
playoffs this year. R J Barrett. These guys went top
three and twenty nineteen r J Barrett nicks there in
the playoffs. DeAndre Hunter has shown well in Atlanta. UM
and the rest of the top ten there really hasn't
done anything. But if you look at this past draft,
you get a lot of the same stuff, like wait
a second, um Anthony Edwards like putting up great numbers

(35:37):
on an awful team. Patrick Williams with the Bulls is starting.
They're not even going to the playoffs. I mean, the
Bulls are just cratering right now and Zach Levine's out.
It's disturbing. And you look at the rest of the
top ten, a lot of guys not really doing much yet.
Haliburton for Sacramento was playing very well. So I spent
it forward to this draft and I really like this
draft guys. Jalen Suggs, by the way, from Gonzaga is

(36:00):
a stunt. I did a mock draft for Fox Sports.
I had him number one. Now, if you isolate that
Baylor game, you're like, well, is he that awesome? But
the rest of his Kazagger teammates, Timmy and kiss Ber,
they looked, I mean, just overwhelmed by Baylor's talent and speed.
Jalen Suggs was there, and you go back to that

(36:20):
U c l A game. He was incredible at both ends.
Guys are really high end basketball player. I like Suggs
a lot. I like Kate Cunningham a lot. Couldn't get
it done by himself. I mean they lost to Oregon State,
but you'd never want to overreact to a final college
basketball game. Two guys that I'm gonna just mentioned quickly

(36:40):
James Harden for Arizona State. Go watch if you can
find out on YouTube, Arizona State Syracuse in the n
c A tournament. Harden was terrible. Harden was awful. It
just didn't he couldn't do anything against the Syracuse Zone.
And the other guy's Jalen Brown of the Boston Celtics.
And I know this because he worked out on my
gym leading up to the draft, and I knew he

(37:01):
was going to be working out because I know the trainer,
and I watched Cal Hawaii and the n c A
tournament closely. Jalen Brown was awful, putrid. I believe he
was one for six with seven turnovers, and he fouled
out in like eighteen minutes. I was like, jeez, this
guy that good. I mean, you know he's got the

(37:22):
metrics and the size and the length all that stuff measures,
but oh my gosh, that's a bad n A tournament kid.
And Jyleen Brown dropped forty for Boston the other night
against the Lakers. He's definitely a foundational player. I think
he's ideally a number two on a championship winning team
or a championship contender. He's an awesome player, and I

(37:44):
just wanted to get this out there. Now, don't overreact
to the n c A tournament. When you're looking at
these NBA draft picks, you just you cannot do it.
There's just one game is far too little for a
lot of these guys eyes who have had pretty good careers.
They've like, again, I'm not just looking at the freshman,

(38:05):
although freshman will dominate the top. Evan Mobley of USC
declared yesterday, I have him going to um Cam Thomas
of LSU just a scoring machine. I had him at six.
And it's basically all freshmen until you get to dev
On Mitchell of of of of Baylor, who I think
is the top ten guy. Now he was that good

(38:27):
in the n tournament. But is that an overreaction on
my part? Am I not overreacting enough on some guys
and overreacting too much on others? And I just I'm
a big draft guy. So I wanted to quickly get
that out there. But coming up in the next hour,
we got another good interview coming up, and again we're
gonna dive into some of these ratings situations. It's not
looking good for sports in general. Fox Sports Radio has

Party People. It's me Jason McIntyre. Fun show, so far

(39:12):
in the books, and we have a guest coming up
right now just because I love the NFL Draft, and
I opened the show talking about smoke screen season and
what the Bengals might do. So we're gonna bring in
Tyler Dragon of the Cincinnati Inquirer. Tyler, how are you man?
I'm doing pretty good. Thanks for having me on. How
are you doing today? Yeah? Definitely, Um, I'm I'm I'm

(39:33):
enjoying what's going on at the top of the draft
and the Bengals are suddenly super intriguing because, let's be honest, Um,
Joe Burrow's former L s U teammate is sitting there,
Jamar Chase, immensely talented receiver. They got Kyle Pitts, an
awesome tight end, and that we know they need offensive
line help despite the moves in the off season. Tyler,

(39:55):
what is what's the latest? You're hearing on the Bengals
in the draft. Well, the latest some hearing is they
are targeting L. S. U. White receiver Jamaar Chase. Like
he just said, he's Joe Burrow's former teammate at LSC.
They won on a national championship run together. He won
the Friends in the Call Trophy at the best college

(40:16):
football wide receiver that year. So that's who I believe
the Bengals will select with that number five pick. Now,
if I were their GM, would I do it? No,
I would draft Oregon tackle Peney School. I think um
offensive line is their biggest need and they've had a
sub mediocre offensive line for the last few years, So

(40:39):
I would address the offensive line with the number five pick.
But I think the Bengals are targeting L. S U.
Y receiver Jamar Chase. So Tyler, I guess A, what
leads you to believe that? And be does that mean
that you think Jonah Williams, the kid they drafted at
Obama can be their left tackle anchor? He was drafted,
what I think he missed the entire season and then

(41:00):
played last year. Yeah, he did miss um the entire
twenty nine season with a shoulder injury. What leads me
to believe that is the moves that the Bengals made
this off season. They signed right tackle Riley Reef, and
Zach Taylor said in a press conference last month that
Jonah Williams was his starting left tackle and Riley Reef

(41:22):
was his starting right tackle. So based on the moves
that they made this off season, and also just rumors
that I'm hearing and sources that I have within the
organization just lead me to believe that they are targeting
uh Jamar Chase. And keep in mind, when the Bengals
were scouting and really going after Joe Burrow last season,
they watched every single snap that he had at L

(41:46):
s U. And when you're watching those snaps that Joe
Burrow had during his National Championship season, you're also seeing
a lot of passes he's throwing to Jabar Chase. So
they also were looking at Jabar Chase when they were
scouted Joe Burrow. So they've been liking him for a while.
And now that he is UH available with the probably

(42:07):
going to be available at the number five pick, I
see that happening and the Bengals have a hole at
wide receiver. Zach Taylor likes to run an eleven personnel
style all offense, which is three wide receivers, one running
back in one tight end and A J. Green departed
to the Arizona Cardinals this afseason, so the Bengals really

(42:27):
only have two starting caliber receivers and Tyler Boyd their
slot receiver and Tee Higgins on the outside. So you
have a hole where a J. Green was and a
bel leeve Jamaar. Chase has the ability to fill a J.
Green's shoes. Yeah. Now it's interesting, uh, Tyler. When you
look at the quarterbacks on their rookie deals throughout the league,

(42:48):
the move lately has been let's overpay for a wide
receiver and free agency because they can have an immediate impact,
or let's trade for one DeAndre Hopkins Stefon Diggs. You
go up and down, and you know, other than the Ravens,
everybody's pretty much done that. Do you think Chase can
be a one alongside Boyd who's really a great slot

(43:09):
guy or emerging as a good slot I and then
Higgins on the outside, Man, it's really too early to tell.
I know that he has the skill set that I
saw in Baton Rouge to be a number one, but
the Bengals don't necessarily need a number one. Why receiver
Tyler Boyd is their number one guy and Tee Higgins

(43:29):
proved last year that he is more than capable of
being a number two WY receiver. He almost had a
thousand yards receiving in his rookie season. And keep in
mind they still have Joe Mixing in the backfield, who
missed almost half the season with foot injury last year.
So the Bengals they have weapons, but adding a player

(43:50):
like Jamaar Chason the outside, he doesn't really have to
be at number one. He can be a number two
or even a third option for Joe Borrow. Interesting now
we're talk with Tyler Dragon Cincinnati inquired. You know, there
isn't really a guide to go in the draft of
the Bengals this high. On the defensive side of the ball,
I think the Bengals defense was objectionally bad last year,

(44:12):
with the exception late of the Pittsburgh game. You know
they I guess they were okay late in the season,
but you look at that roster. I mean, I like
to Trey Hendrickson moved, but other than that, is this
even a five team right now? Tyler, I don't believe.
So I have the Bengals winning about six games. And yeah,
as you just said, the defense wasn't that good. They

(44:33):
are bad at stopping the run. They're ok they have
okay pass defense led by Jesse Bas and Von Bill
their two safeties. But they did spend a lot of
money on the defensive side of the football, and they're
getting Trey Wayne's back. He missed all of last season
with a pectoral injury, so getting him back shadoube a woozier,

(44:56):
as well as the corner that they signed it free agency,
Dj Reader, who they signed to a big contract last year,
missed a big portion of the season with quadra steps injury.
So they're getting a lot of reinforcements back on the
defensive side of the football. So I do expect them
to be a little bit better. But when you look

(45:16):
at the entire a f C North, they just don't
have the talent to compete for a playoff spot right
now and compete for a division title. I still think
that the division belongs to the Baltimore Ravens and then
probably second to Cleveland Browns. Inch WHOA I thought you'd
say Pittsburgh there, But which leads me to my next question. Um,

(45:37):
you know, listen, I'm not gonna hammer Zack Taylor too much,
but all the stats on him are very bad. And
I know he did take over a you know, horrible team,
but he's six and one in two seasons, and I
just wonder. You know, you don't want to become the
Cleveland Browns and be firing coaches every year, but Taylor's

(45:58):
really show nothing. Tyler, and I know you don't want
to start over with a new coach and a new
system with Joe Burrow, But is it fair to say
there's pressure on Zach Taylor and Cincinnati this year? Well,
Marvin Lewis was in Cincinnati for almost two decades for

(46:18):
him as much as you and I have, Yes, I
don't think there's um a lot of pressure on Zach
Taylor to this point. But if the Bengals continue to
have losing seasons on Joe Burrows rookie deal, I can
see next year if there again uh five, four, maybe

(46:41):
even six win team that Zach Taylor then is on
the hot seat. But they do want to give him
some time. He does have a pretty long leach because
a lot of the players like him, especially some of
the younger players and a few of the veterans as well.
They say he is a player's coach. They like his style.
And Joe Burrow, their franchise player, he gets along with

(47:03):
Zach Taylor and he's an advocate of him. So that's
who you really want on your team. And then also
Pee Higgins, Tyler Boyd, they're also big advocates Zach Taylor,
Joe Mixing as well, and a lot of the defensive
players that they have in a team like DJ Reader,
Jesse Bates. So some of the main core players that
the Bengals do have, they are big supporters of Zach Taylor.

(47:26):
So that's pretty much all you need with the Mike
Brown and Brown family as of now. But if he
continues to have uh, disappointing seasons like last year in
the Chile season in twenty nineteen, I can see next year,
uh he will be on Nazia. Yeah. I I don't
know how much value is there isn't everybody liking you,

(47:47):
you know, you know Bill Belichick was really not well liked,
but he was a drill serge. Didn't want a ton
of Super Bowls, and you know that's I don't know.
I mean, do you want to be well liked if
you're a coach by your play. I'm not making the decisions.
I'm just telling you what I do. This is not
how I would do. What I what I believe to

(48:09):
be true from what I'm hearing from my sources in
the Bengals organization. Now, if they would listen to me,
they would have more than six wins over of course, Yes, Tyler, yeah,
maybe they'll make you the GM. So let me let
me quickly ask you this to wrap up. Is there
any chance they finish outside the seller Let's say they
get Jamaar Chase and you know, they pick up some

(48:29):
nice guys on defense, and there is health health matters,
you know, Jonah Williams, Joe Mixing. Like you said, I mean,
is there a chance they can sniff and finish ahead of,
say the Steelers. Yeah, I mean there's a chance that
there's always a chance. Um. I don't see them winning
the division, but I can see the best case scenario

(48:49):
that Bengals do finish five or maybe even slightly above. UM.
I don't see them competing for a division title uh
this season, though I think there's still maybe a year
or two away from really being serious playoff contenders. And
that's just because they're they're still a young team. UM.

(49:11):
A lot of the players UM will admit that they're
still in rebuild mode, and based on the product in
the field, I think that's very obvious that they're still
rebuild mode. So there's still a couple of years away
from seriously competing for a playoff spot. Okay, he is
Tyler Dragon. You can follow him on Twitter at the
Tyler Dragon. It's nice to have the Bengals somewhat relevant again.

(49:33):
It feels like, you know, they've just been so off
the radar for so long that you know, Joe Burrow
could finally bring that that franchise some fun. Yeah. Yeah,
He's getting a lot of excitement around the city and
a lot of players and fans. They tend tend to
like him, and he's performed in the field for the

(49:53):
ten games that he was on the field. Hopefully for
the Bengals they can keep him healthy and one. All right,
Thanks a lot, Tyler, We'll talk to you later. Thanks
coming up next year on Fox Sports Radio. You know,
I was just watching these nets highlights in the studio.
Kevin Durant pulling up from deep. Oh yeah, Kevin durand
stop playing back to backs yet, Kyrie Irving doing his

(50:15):
dang Listen. Kyrie Irving is really talented. But he also
took some days off recently because it was his birthday,
and then he took more days off for reasons that
remain unknown. Guys on social media keep telling me, well, uh,
his wife had a kid a month ago, so he
wanted to hang with the kid. Got it? Okay. Fox

is so embarrassing. I know who sings this song because
they have other They have like two other good songs

(50:56):
there from the nineties Arrest of Development. That's another song
they had, right or is that the band name? Oh Nice?
Saving some embarrassment from another bad bad job trying to
guess music. I don't know if the rest of the
countries is here yet, but Southern California starting to open up.

(51:20):
They finally are doing sports. Oh god, Gavin reminds me
we are to the game everybody else, So it's funny.
So I go to my son. You know, we signed
up for soccer. I had to make sure that one
of my friends drafts my son to his soccer team.
But there was no draft. They were just like, hey,

(51:42):
take whoever you want, which is never a good strategy,
and um, that will just give you other guys. So
we get on this team and I go to the
practice and one of the moms, you know, drops off
their son and the mom says to me, I'm just
so happy to get him out playing sports and seeing

(52:02):
other kids again. And my head like, I was like,
wait a minute. I didn't want to ask this, but
I was like, wait a second, So have you not
had your kids seeing anybody for like thirteen fourteen months?
And folks, I'm starting to get the feeling that a
lot of people we're doing something along those lines where
you don't really see anybody, or you only hang with

(52:25):
like one other family. That just is not healthy. Kevin,
That is not healthy at all. And I know you're
with me on this, Like we're fortunate out here in
l A. We've got nice weather, but this these lockdowns
could have some really long term significant damage. Is not good.
Jason um Quick something quick for you. I was actually

(52:47):
inside of a Walgreens and this this mother and her
daughter were there, and I overheard her saying to the
pharmacy tech, She's like, I haven't been inside, she has said,
I haven't been inside of a store for a whole year,
inside of a store. I was like, what. Everything was
delivered to home basically. So I was doing my taxes

(53:09):
this week. You know, you go through the credit card
bill and it's so crazy. But in April of last year,
we did not buy not one thing outside the house
except I think gas once, and everything else was Amazon, Amazon,
Amazon Amazon. We only had stuff delivered, didn't go to
the store except the grocery store. But a year that

(53:29):
is instan No, I want no. It's not my place
to say the thing that. If she wants to be
that precautious, that's fine, But let me tell you. Let
me tell you something. Even when it was March of
a they said stay in your home. I still went
out almost every day walking and I wore a mask.
I can't stay inside. I'm an outdoorsman. I like even

(53:50):
in an urban setting. I like being outside. I cannot
stay inside. I like inside, like to sleep inside, like
you know, I like a cozy bed, warm bed, all that.
But well, say, like you know, watch TV, you know
the air conditioning. I also like to go and walk
outside and run, exercise, you know, look at stuff. You know. Yeah,
I mean we what humans have been around for hundreds

(54:11):
of thousands of years, maybe millions of years, I don't
know the number. But the last hundred two hundred years
are the only times they've been inside this much. And
now it's like never before can you imagine what not
even the cavemen, but people from like sixteen sev hundred
would think about people spending eight hours a day inside

(54:32):
that's unheard of, and staring at screens all the time.
Maybe during the Black Plague they stayed inside a little
more because they didn't know what was going on, what
was killing all these people, But they safer. I mean,
the reality is like this is just our brains are
basically shifting significantly. And the other thing is that all

(54:52):
the science said to go outside, It said it was healthier,
Vitamin D, these are things that are helping your immune systems.
I don't know. People choose the science they want to believe,
well that that's the and I kind of blame the
Internet on that because you blame the media. I blame
the media, well the media the internet. Like, if you

(55:13):
believe something could be true and you go on the Internet,
you can probably find some websites, some message boards, some
Yahoo answers or something dumb to just confirm whatever you're saying.
And I think a lot of people fall down these
rabbit holes and start to like really believe anything they read. Um,

(55:33):
I'm with you, guys, outdoors is key. I think the
key thing is now, Um, I saw an interview that
when sent my viral with Fouci yesterday when they were
talking about, uh, you know, wearing masks after you get vaccinated,
and I'm I've seen plenty of data that suggests a
few weeks after you're vaccinated, the mass are no longer needed,

(55:58):
like that I should have that's the reason. Well, I'm
just saying, like I think he's talking about the break
the quote breakthrough cases where you're vaccinated, yet you still
because it's not quote protection when you get vaccinated. No,
actually it's I think it's like yeah, and so yeah,
there there have been there have been about six thousand

(56:20):
people out of millions of people who have gotten COVID
after getting vaccinated, and like seventies some have died, but
that's a incredibly tiny number. Yeah, I mean so, but
I mean and again outdoors, the chance of transmission is
like next enough, right, and then if you're vaccinated, like
we shouldn't be wearing having to wear masks outdoors after Well,

(56:41):
I did want to add this to the soccer at
some point, what's the point of getting vaccinated? Nothing changed?
Like I thought that was the point. That's why my
problem with the NFL. Why why are you skipping workouts
again when the vaccine is out there? That was the
whole point of this. So and we'll get into that later. Yeah, no, no.
The skipping workouts thing is interesting because it sounds like

(57:03):
it's universal, right, like nobody it's mostly know it's there
are it sounds like some individual players, like like the
Chargers put out a statement said many of our players
won't do it. But my problem is they're using COVID
as an excuse when that is not the The league
is going forward with fans in the stands and they're
doing the protocols are way better at one as we know,

(57:25):
when you're working out as a facility compared to at home.
And then two, the vaccine is out there. I thought
that was you know, let's do that to protect over that.
So this soccer league that that they're doing out here
in southern California for the kids is like, okay, Number one,
kids have to wear a mask. Ball playing, Okay, I
get it, but it's outdoors. Number two, every fan has

(57:47):
adult in the sitting outside outside on the sideline, has
to be wearing a mask. And you have to answer
like five questions in this app about have you been
around somebody with COVID? Like I json jumping through a
lot of hoops. And guess here's the worst part. Because
not enough kids signed up, they had to combine second grade,
third and fourth, so my daughter second grade, we got

(58:10):
all second graders. The commissioner called the coach who I'm
friends with. Him was like, hey, just so you know,
you've got all second graders on your team. He's like, yeah,
we're all friends, you know we we would rather have that.
And it's like they had a scrimmage yesterday, Gavin at
the practice and I look at the other team and
there's some tall girls. So I go up to the coach.
I'm not even coaching. I'm like a dad who's helping

(58:31):
because I like sports and the kids are cool. And
I go to the other coach. I'm like, you know,
just so you know, we've got all second graders. He's
like all. I was like, yeah, He's like okay, So
he keeps some of his better players back. Our girls
were fighting. My daughter almost scored. It was zero zero,
and then eventually the coach moves his best player up
and boom, they get three goals in a a heartbeat. She's
a fourth grade who's really good, and you're like, damn,

(58:52):
it's gonna be a long season. But anyways, go ahead.
I don't even know where I was at on that. Um.
I was gonna say out here in l A. When
they were filling the skate park with sand like they
were they were in dirt, they were well they were
doing that to discourage people from going outside, and I
was just like, this is that's the wrong thing to do.
I don't Yeah, the messaging on that is so bad. Yeah,

(59:14):
the messaging was horrible that nationwide, and it still kind
of is. To an example, Yeah, there's there's a segment
of people that want people just change to their homes
all day and never seeing anybody well, the other and
I don't want to go down too many rabbit holes.
But the other thing with this, uh you know this
league is like getting kids to wear masks while running

(59:35):
around on a big soccer field is very challenging. After
two minutes of the scrimmage, one of the girls is like,
I need water, and I went over, of course to
talk to the mom. Oh has she been doing a
lot of sports now? She hasn't. Just same second grader,
tall and like totally gassed it out of shape. And
we're going to see that in sports, like some of
these kids are. Just if you're gonna discourage kids from

(59:58):
participating in sports, I don't know, Gavin. I'm you never
want to go overboard, but I am of the belief
like I want to go to the gym, but frankly,
like if we're gonna play basketball in the gym, I'm not.
I don't want to wear a mask. I got vaccinated.
I don't want to do that. That's like, it's just like,
what's the point. I got vaccinated eight weeks ago and

(01:00:19):
I haven't been able to change like everything, you know
what I mean, Like you're still doing this. I'm still
abiding by the laws and our our our own companies
by right. So I'm not gonna you know, And just
to be clear to the people out there who are
gonna tweet me like, oh you nonbeliever. No, we largely
had nobody in our house for twelve months. You know.

(01:00:42):
When the cleaning lady came, she wore a mask, We
wore masks, We opened all the windows. Like, we have
done everything in our power to avoid COVID. Um, We've
played by the rules, and now it's like we got vaccinated,
kids aren't getting it. I'm sorry, Like we're at the
point like we're gonna do we gotta do stuff. You know,
I don't want to say I wasted a year on
my prime, you know, I'm not just kidding. Um, But

(01:01:04):
at some point, guys, we gotta start to live our
life again. And um, I don't know I did. I
was gonna talk about the nets, and then we got
into um random super random stuff. Yeah, we could always
come back to the nets. We've got we got an
hour and a half left. Um, yeah, let's go to
Isaac with what's trending. Jason Adrian war Janowski reported today
that an m R I on the spring right ankle

(01:01:25):
of Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell revealed no structural damage.
He is, however, expected him as several games on the court.
Friday night, Julius Randol scored forty four is the Knicks
one at Dallas. The Knicks on a five game winning streak,
their longest in seven years in the NFL. The man
who filed a criminal assault complaint earlier this week against
Los Angeles Ramstar defensive lineman Aaron Donald has now recanted

(01:01:48):
his claim and apologize. Man's attorney said that his client
miss took Donald for his attacker outside of a Pittsburgh
nightclub early last Sunday morning. In Major League Baseball, Fry
and I first show down to the season between the
Dodgers and Padres lived up to the hype and went
twelve innings before the Dodgers wanted eleven to six. The

(01:02:08):
Dodgers at twelve and two on a seven game winning streak.
It's the best start by a defending World Series champion
after fourteen games in Major League history. And finally, The
New York Post reported today that Fox Sports Joe Buck
will be a future guest host on Jeopardy So he
joins Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers as one of

(01:02:30):
the candidates to be the permanent replacement host for the
late great Alex Trebec. I'll take Troy Aikman tie patterns
for eight hundred Joe potential category back to you, Jason, Wow,
good stuff, Isaac. Sorry to interrupt there. Um interesting, I mean, listen,
we're back here on Fox Sports Radio. Kevin. Um, I

(01:02:56):
don't know. I like the Joe, I like what Joe
Buck says, and um, I don't know. For some reason,
the whole Jeopardy situation without Alex feels odd. I don't
want to feel like I'm cheating on Alex Trebek. I mean,
he's been dead for a while, but I've watched a
show for years. It's like, no, this is not a
good comparison. But it's off the top of my head.

(01:03:16):
When nine oh to one oh started to replace the
longtime cast with like random people, not Tiffity Ambertheson, because listen,
I'll watch anything she's in. But when you start replacing
like Dylan and Kelly Brenda and I don't know, it's
just different. And I know we all have to adapt
and change, but I I did not watch Aaron Rodgers,

(01:03:37):
how was he did you watch it all? Yeah, I
know he was good. He was you know, his own
unique personality, had some fun uh with you know, at
the packers expense. But yeah, it's you know, Trubek hosted
it for decades. Like you don't just simply transition to
someone new. It's almost like when you have a quarterback
for fifteen years. You never want to be the guy

(01:03:58):
after the guy because whoever that guy is is probably
destined to fail because nobody can live up to somebody
who's been there forever. So you want you have like
your bridge guy who's in and then you get in
your new guy who starts at a new I think
Joe Buck and crush it because he's really sharp, quick
witted guy. Um it's tough because um, like locally here
with the Dodgers, you know, Vince Scully and you know

(01:04:22):
we've had I think Joe Davis come replace him, and
he's doing a great job. And you know most people
would acknowledge that. You know, the local broadcasters are doing terrific,
but you're still not Vince Scully. My chargers justin Herbert
is awesome. I'm so excited for how talented he is.
But Philip Rivers is going to be a Chargers legend
forever over what he meant to that team in that franchise.

(01:04:45):
And it's the same thing with you know, you know
your own teams, and it's uh, it's tough to replace
the legend. Never want to be that guy. Yeah, I mean,
I guess technically you could say Tyrod Taylor, who's the
bridge for what? One game? One game when? But it
was forgotten because Herbert looks amazing. I do want to

(01:05:06):
ask you guys real quick before we get back to sports,
is your Internet consumption up or down in the last
couple of months, because I do I know that Obviously,
early COVID, it was all Internet all the time, and
it was you were on the apps and you clung
to your phone looking for any kernels of information. But

(01:05:27):
then I went through the phase where I'm like, all right,
I gotta do less Internet. And I think I've been
doing a pretty good job of that. Um, but I
do wonder if are you guys using your phones less
or is it just same or more? I'll go first,
I think it would have to be less one because
we've been able to do more, go out more. I

(01:05:49):
was able to see my family on Easter, that kind
of stuff, like actually going out. We're also personally trying
to be more active, so we're definitely disconnecting more from that.
So yeah, it definitely feels like it's better to be outside.
Like I definitely have called my parents and men, like, listen,
you gotta go outside. You gotta just walk around in nature.

(01:06:11):
Have you guys heard of grounding. I don't know if
I've talked about this, not like when your parents ground
you because you did something dumb, but where you basically
just have your bare feet, not in socks, not in sneakers,
touch grass. I have not heard of that. I've never
heard of it. I mean, I'm from the Midwest and
my parents have a farm, so I walked around barefoot
a lot. It's good for your back, it's good for

(01:06:33):
like walking barefoot is really good for your body. Yes,
it's because you have all these pressure points on the
bottom of your feet, and your feet are often kind
of coddled by shoes and they become sort of now
they are Yeah, they are modern humans are modern humans.
Feet are very like especially Western eyed you know countries,
your feet never touched the earth. You're in socks, you're

(01:06:55):
in sneakers all the time, and I don't know. I
I can admit this. I've started to every day make
a point to just take off my socks and sneakers
and walk into the grass just God's it's it's good.
And there's is this thing called grounding. You guys can
read about it. I know it's hippy dippy, and Jason,

(01:07:15):
you're getting weird. You're gonna talk about Kale next um.
But yeah, I did watch this nature show where the
guy just chooses to live life that way, never wear
shoes ever. Yeah, And actually I thought that was dumb
because his his reason was, oh, well there's people in
third world countries that, which is true, but they if

(01:07:36):
they had the shoes, they would wear the course. So
I thought that was a ridiculous reason. Jason, if you
do grounding in the end zone, is it a safety?
Funny guy? Funny guy? All right, let's get back to
sports real quick. So Kevin Durant plays last night. It
looks good, Kyrie Irving, go look on Instagram. The highlights

(01:07:59):
are awesome at pretty usual. James Harden is still out.
I don't know. The nets were bigger favorites, and I
know I have referenced gambling a lot here, but you
should be using gambling lines as at least a small
window into what you think is going to happen, because,
trust me, the people in the desert know what they're doing.

(01:08:22):
They are building casinos and making billions of dollars in
the desert. And the nets odds have come down a touch.
The LaMarcus Aldres thing, I don't think it has a
big bearing, although I did say this on Straight Fire
this week, that look at that locker room when they're

(01:08:43):
faced with a hint of adversity. Let's say the Sixers
go up to one and there's some hardened kyrie beef
who is the leader, the veteran in the locker room
who's pounding the table and saying, bleep it bleep, bleep,
shut up and listen to me. Here's what we need
to do. We got this. We know it's Lebron, we

(01:09:08):
know it's Janice in Milwaukee. Although he hasn't won anything,
it's pretty clear that Joel Embiid is the leader of
the Sixers, the Miami Heat, Jimmy Butler is that dog
you go up and down the league. A lot of
teams have it. The Clippers did not have it last
year in the bubble. There was nobody to stop the bleeding.

(01:09:30):
When they couldn't close out Denver up three one and
leading the final three games at half, they could not
close it out in the second half. So what do
they do? They go out and get Rondo, a thirty
five year old point guard who's one in with the
Lakers and with Boston. He is now being expected to
come in and be that vocal leader in the huddle. Rondo. Okay,

(01:09:55):
who is that guy in the Nets locker room? Yeah?
I want to say it's Kevin Durant. I want to
I just him. Not a thousand percent sure that he's
that dude. Remember, and I like Kevin Durant. This is
not a slight Remember he went to Golden State. He

(01:10:17):
followed Kyrie to Brooklyn. Maybe he becomes a vocal leader.
I don't know if he's that guy. James Harden has
had a lot of postseason failures. I know he is
an alpha, but he's on a team with two other alpha's.
Kyrie wants to be the guy, But can you be
the guy, the leader in the locker room when you've
abandoned the team three times? I mean, Kyrie's probably missed

(01:10:41):
I don't know, ten fifteen games because he needed personal reasons.
Like did the leader do that? The captain is supposed
to go down with the ship. The leader is supposed
to lead the team through difficult times. Steve Nash has
never been a head coach, except of course, in my
son's basketball league, where I coached against him like four

(01:11:03):
years ago. Like, I just don't know. Could LaMarcus Aldridge
have been that guy? Veteran thirty five, wants to get
a ring, been on some good teams. I think he's
a Hall of Famer, but guys with similar numbers are
not in the Hall of Fame. Chris Webber has had
a better career than LaMarcus Aldridge. He ain't in the
Hall of Fame. I don't know if the Nets have

(01:11:26):
that guy, but Gavin, I don't know. Is there so
much talent that they won't need that guy. But I'll
tell you now, if they go down three, want to
get somebody. I don't know if it's going to be
in their DNA to come back. One thing that worries me,
it's the same thing the Clippers had last year. They
haven't played a lot together and you don't want to
find that chemistry in the playoffs. It didn't work for
l A last year. Is it gonna work for Brooklyn?
Especially with much bigger egos on that? Yeah? How is

(01:11:50):
Katie gonna defer to James Harden at the end of
the You know that's gonna be weird. Now listen, I
am all in on Hardened. I I'm sure I took
some sad him when he was in Houston unable to
close it out. But that one when he was when
he was a number one, and there were questions about
the two, I don't know, is it who's the number two?

(01:12:10):
But let's let's go to some sound real quick of
Charles Barkley on the nets. I'm always root against brook Why.
I just don't like the way they put that team together.
I'm never gonna be a proponent of guys building on
the team and up, never gonna be for it. So
I'm moving for anybody to be Brooklyn. Okay, Charles Barkley,
what was the exact thing? I never root for anybody

(01:12:32):
to team up. And that's why he Barkley is a liar.
He's a liar. We'll talk about that next. He's done
it himself. That's next here on Fox Sports Radio. Fox

(01:13:22):
don't always like to break some personal news on the show,
but did you guys happen to see the news that
a group led by Mazzette Ozul, a soccer player justin Verlander,
Kate Upton Eva Longoria bought a soccer team in Mexico.

(01:13:44):
Um Nick Coxa is the team and they operate out
of a city in Mexico that you've probably never heard of,
but it's a cool city's name, Aguascalientis in Mexico. Never
been there, but that translates to hot waters. Yes, this
is the you're good, Sam, do take a few years

(01:14:07):
of Spanish. The reason that it's called hot waters is
because parts of the city get natural hot water when
you turn on your faucet, you know, like usually when
you turn on your water, Um, it's like cold and
then it's got to warm up parts of the city.
It's hot instantly geothermal activity. Don't know. I never been there. However,

(01:14:29):
Uh we are part of well I will me and
my family blah blah blah. We're part of that group
that bought that soccer team. So last night, of course
I'm watching the soccer team because it's on whatever channel
it's on, and the guy misses a penalty kick and
I'm there with the kids watching and there they have
no clue we're watching. It's like a Spanish station. I
think it's Univision h D And I'm like, oh gosh,

(01:14:53):
he missed the p K. And they're like, yeah, okay,
can we go back to the roadblocks at and a
very exciting time for the family, my family, But um,
we try these obscure random off book moves. Um. The
Australian basketball team, which had a big win this week. Um,
they're not doing great, but they haven't played a home

(01:15:15):
game due to COVID. They're located in New Zealand. The
rest of the league's in Australia, so thus they haven't
played one home game all season. Um and then now
a Mexican soccer team. So when I go really random
here start talking about stuff like that, it's um just
for the listeners. I'm not I don't put that stuff
on social media at least yet. By the way, Gavin,

(01:15:35):
I was just reading during the break about doge coin.
Did you know it's based on a dog meme, the
doge coin. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that's what doge is. Yeah.
It Now, that's why it's so funny because it's nothing.
It is nothing, but it's market cap is fifty bill,

(01:16:00):
which is more than ford in eBay. How does doge
coin a meme have a market cap of fifty bill?
Is unreal. I think that UM economics professors in high
school classes are really enjoying this as a fun lesson
for kids. Like it's it's it's insane and I'm in
the dark here. What is the lesson? I don't about

(01:16:24):
market manipulation. I would assume like how you can create basically, Look,
I don't I'm not a stockbroker. I please don't listen
to my financial analysis. I'm just thinking that when you
get everyone, or not everyone, but millions of people, hundreds
of thousands into buying one thing, that price of that
thing because of the demand, is going to go up.

(01:16:46):
So that happened with a meme of a cryptocurrency, and
that is what doge coin is. And it cost very
little for me to get twenty shares of it. And
now it's funny to see it. It's now worth thirty cents.
Every share is worth thirty cents, and I have unbelievable
You know, Charles Barkley has become a meme. You like

(01:17:08):
that transition. Honestly, Charles Barkley is a joke. I'm sorry, guys.
I know he's great television, but he's a joke, ripping
the nets for teaming up. I just want Charles Barkley
to get in his way back machine, go back to
the end of his Sixers days where he demanded to
get out and get demanded to trade it to a contender,
and oh, the Phoenix suns are really good. You have

(01:17:29):
to trade me there. I'm gonna retire. I'm not gonna
play anymore. Trade me there or I'm done here. That's
what Charles Barkley did because Phoenix had a good team
and they could contend for the title. And oh guess what,
Charles Barkley gets his wish to team up with good
players on the Phoenix Suns Dan Marley. They go to
the championship, they lose to the Bulls. Barkley wins the

(01:17:52):
m v P of the season. Charles Barkley literally did
what he's now talking about people should not do. And
it's holy embarrassing that all these media members who suck
up to Barkley chalk. Barkley is the best, the show
is the great ast Bambo. We know it was good.
I don't think it's as good as it once was.

(01:18:15):
And oh, let's get Barkley on an interview. I mean,
I don't know, Maybe I have to call these guys out,
because anytime I see a Barkley interview, it's one of
like the same five lap dogs who are not going
to call him on the stuff they need to call
him on. Hey, Charles, you ripped the nets for teaming up.
You forced your way out of Philly to the Sun's.
Oh and then when that failed, you forced your way

(01:18:35):
to the Rockets trying to win another championship. That failed too,
so you were teaming up with the Sons, you were
teaming up with the Rockets. But now the Nets shouldn't
do that, and the Warriors shouldn't do that, shouldn't recruit
k D. I mean Reggie Miller's saying the same bunk. Oh.
If Jordan had called me, I would have hug up

(01:18:55):
and told him no way. Yeah right, you couldn't get
by Jordan's. The only said you got to the finals
was because Jordan quit for the second time. Reggie Miller unbelievable.

noon on the East Coast nine am out here in
I would say sunny Los Angeles, but it looks like
it's just some cloud cover to start the weekend. I
don't know about you guys, but the weather out here
in Los Angeles is about to warm up, calling for

(01:19:40):
eighty two degrees on Sunday. Who wants to go to
the beach once again? It's a beach time. Well, Unfortunately
I can't we have two soccer games with the kids. Um,
you know, Kevin, I know you're a big soccer guy
growing up. Youth sports. Oh yeah, we haven't signed our
kids up for baseball or softball simply because when the

(01:20:02):
weather is awesome, we don't want to be sitting there
for two hours during a baseball game. Did you play
baseball when you were a little guy. But about the extent, yeah,
I know, selfish of us as parents right to say, hey,
we don't want to sit there and watch coach pitch
or kid pitch for two hours. No way, we're gonna

(01:20:22):
go to the beach. One thing I will be doing
less than two weeks from now, the NFL Draft. Can't wait.
So excited had it circled on the calendar for a while.
The draft is become really big business. I mean, you
can gamble on the draft and we will do some
gambling on the draft next week. We had a Bengals

(01:20:45):
reporter earlier on the show say that the Bengals are
targeting Jamaar Chase at five. You know, I mentioned it
on social media and all these people are like all
over it. They're like yes or no, we need to
protect Joe Burrow. I. It's funny because everybody wants to
talk about the Bengals at five Falcons at four they falcons?
Are they going to take a quarterback? Do they keep

(01:21:07):
Matt Ryan? Yeah? We know what the Jets are doing.
There is some mystery about the forty niners, just a
little probably gonna be justin Fields over Mac Jones. But
you know what nobody's talking about. Trevor Lawrence at number one,
thirty four and two the last three years as a

(01:21:29):
starter for the Clemson Tigers, just unbelievable career, strangely did
not win a Heisman, did win and Natty took down
Alabama as a freshman, and Trevor Lawrence is kind of
a forgotten guy. I don't really know how that happens

(01:21:54):
when you look like Sunshine from Remember the Titans and
you dominate at Clemson. Trevor Lawrence just got married. He's
twenty one years old. But the self awareness, it's really
what has me. And I'm so smitten. You know, you
could call it a man crush if you want on

(01:22:16):
on Trevor Lawrence. He talked to s I this week
and you can just here in his explanations how level
headed and mature. This kid is. I don't know about
you guys. At twenty one, I was a goof off.
I was still chasing the skirt around, you know, at
least three nights a week in college. If I could

(01:22:37):
get out Tuesday nights, I would, Thursday's for sure, Friday,
Saturday awesome night. Trevor Lawrence is out here, married, gonna
be the number one pick in the draft, overnight millionaire,
and he's got the self awareness to say, I don't
really care what anybody says about me. He's not that

(01:22:58):
active on social media or the Graham. He's just one
of these rare kids who gets it. Now, the football lifers,
you know what they're gonna say, Well, does Trevor Lawrence
love football? Because the last guy who was a CAMPMS
prospect and I like football, but didn't really love it.

(01:23:18):
He was into like reading, you know, books and stuff,
and he had a flip phone. And Andrew Luck, I mean,
he like football. He's a really talented football player, but
he walked away from the game at twenty nine. What
if Trevor Lawrence doesn't love football? And you can already

(01:23:39):
see that that's the next silly like Domino to fall
in the Trevor Lawrence bashing because we always have to
find a way to build guys up and tear them down.
That's what the media does. They loved the build up
tear down, and we built Trevor Lawrence up, and now

(01:24:00):
we're gonna tear him down when he starts Ohing three
in Jacksonville. That's what we're gonna do. That's what the
media does. I can vow to you, the listening audience,
to you who are listening to the podcast all over
America and in Europe. I don't know for big in Canada.
I'll have to find out, but it's very clear to

(01:24:22):
me that I will not be backtracking on my Trevor
Lawrence takes. I am a firm believer he will be successful,
maybe not instantly. You know, I thought Sam Donald would
be successful. Clearly was not. Thirty eight games as a
starter told me enough I need to know about Sam Donald.
Wasn't working out in the with the Jets, could still

(01:24:43):
work out in Carolina, but Trevor Lawrence, I'm all in.
My chips are in the middle. Unbelievably, you know, my
idiotic Jets had to win two games. Joe Flacco of course,
the reason that the Jets aren't getting Trevor Lawrence. Like,
if the Jets had gotten Lawrence, I probably would be

(01:25:07):
more insufferable than I already am about the Jets, if
that's humanly possible. You guys know I do the Straight
Fire podcast. It's so funny because Gavin does stuff on it,
and then Rob, a producer from the Odd Couple, he
does stuff on it, and all I get is, hey, man,
you talk about the Jets too much. There's too much Jets,

(01:25:29):
and I'm like, you guys are lucky they didn't get
Trevor Lawrence because it would be like, oh man, I
would probably have to talk Jets four days a week
in some capacity, and I know nobody cares about the Jets.
We are getting we the Mormon mahomes Zack Wilson. But
I kind of like Trevor Lawrence even more. I mean, yeah,

(01:25:50):
Zack Wilson saying the right things. I guarantee you I'll
call him zac Efron at least once a month during
the football season because he has like this, He's always
like smiling. He's like that guy who's just so high
on life that he's always grinning. Any picture of Zach
Wilson to be why You quarterback. He's got like some
kind of smirk on his face. Trevor Lawrence has a
steely demeanor, this inner confidence that just reeks of, hey, man,

(01:26:15):
how are you. I'm gonna go do this, and I'm
gonna do it well. One of the accolades I like
to keep on the wife and she's not listening, so
I'm not kissing but here. But I've told her from
early on, like, jeez, anything you do, you're pretty successful
at it. She's smart, she gets people, and like anytime

(01:26:39):
she's helping on something like it works really well. So
you know, marrying up has been very good for me
and I you know, you could just sense that about
some people. And Trevor Lawrence. Man, I'm telling you that
guy is good. He's really really talented. And it's not
just what you see on the field and the arm
and the decision. And I've said many times Ohio State

(01:27:02):
Clemson two years ago was one of the best college
football games I've seen in the last decade. Ohio State
is just beating the crap out of Trevor Lawrence. And
he's somehow is able to peel off a fifty or
touchdown run. And Trevor Lawrence is just amazing in that
game and the inner confidence that he has. It's like

(01:27:22):
he's got a wisdom beyond his twenty one years and
he's gonna have success in the NFL. I watched the
Jags off season. I know some people are kind of
out on urban Meyer. You know, full disclosure, he worked
at Fox. I didn't speak to him once. I don't
know him. He's obviously a very good football mind. But

(01:27:43):
I'll say this, there has been a coach bump for
rookies where they take over, they surprise a lot of people,
and we saw it with McVeigh. Obviously, we did not
see it with Zach Taylor. UM, I have the feeling
urban Meyer and Trevor Lawrence are gonna do some rabble

(01:28:04):
rousing in the a f C next year. Listen. I'm
not going crazy here and say they're gonna win ten
games or win the division. But the talent is there
around Trevor Lawrence in that he's gonna feel like he's
always got a chance. Remember Gardner Minshew made these guys
plucky for like five minutes. The Jacks took uh this kid,

(01:28:26):
James Robinson undrafted running back over a thousand yards DJ
Shark Baby Shark, pretty good guy. Put up some good
numbers on my fantasy team. I like the Marvin Jones
pick up la Visca Chennault. The kid out of Colorado
showed well, he's kind of got a little bit of um.
The forty Niners receiver who can catch and run. The

(01:28:50):
toughness Chinault is really nice, Deebo Samuel, That's what I
was looking for, thank you. And you know the front
line for the Jacksonville defense as a couple of SEC
defensive ends Josh Allen calevon Chason. I like their um
pick up a Shack Griffin in the secondary. I'm telling
you right now, Jacksonville is gonna be good. Trevor Lawrence

(01:29:11):
is too good of a talent that they're gonna be
They're not gonna be a two or three win team. Yeah,
a great point. You do not have to worry about
the Houston Texas. They, by the way, according to the
Vegas odds makers, and we'll do that next segment. I
think Vegas over unders that jump out at us before
the draft. One question for you as a Jets fan, Yes,

(01:29:35):
I'm sure you have this game circled on your schedule
for next season, Jets at Panthers. How important is that game?
We don't know the date yet. It has to be
a primetime game. How it could be a Thursday that
it could be. It's gonna be enticing. What what did
Sam Donald do? Three touchdowns three yards and they win?

(01:29:59):
I mean, it's the old and it's probably his most
anticipated games since the Baker game. Remember the Baker game
his rookie season. That was a Thursday night game. I
think Baker came in off the bench and beat Donald.
Donald was okay at times, but I remember that being
in a really exciting game. It was. It was good. Yeah,

(01:30:19):
And Zack Wilson verse, Sam Donald will be a thriller, Yeah,
Zack Wilson. Um, I'm bullish, obviously, not as bullish as
on Trevor Lawrence. One anecdote, I don't know if I've
told this on UM on this show or not, but
a good story I heard from Sam Hanky. So James
Harden is traded to the Rockets way back from Okay.

(01:30:41):
See and the first practice of the season. You know,
James Harden had just gotten there like ten days earlier.
Everybody shows up and everybody's shooting around, lacing up their sneakers,
getting ready high fives, and Kevin McHale, the coach, calls
him in and says, okay, guys, here's what we're gonna do.
Uh h. We're gonna run this drill and we're gonna

(01:31:02):
break off here. And Kevin McKell says, all right, everybody
put your hands in, and they put their hands in,
and before the next thing is James Harden goes, hey,
tuck your jersey's in. James Harton, who has just been
in Houston for about ten days, speaks up as a leader, says,
tuck your jerseys in. Everybody tucks your jerseys in. Then

(01:31:22):
they put their hands in break and you know, early
on it was very clear that James Harden was the guy.
He was only a sixth man largely in Okay. See,
he's very young getting to a team, and he sets
the tone by telling everybody, hey, tuck your jersey's in.
Just a little thing, not over not yelling anybody, hey,

(01:31:44):
tuck your jersey's in. Everybody listens. James Harden stamps it,
I'm the alpha of the team. Trevor Lawrence is gonna
get to Jacksonville and there's gonna be a moment. And
he's not like a big vocal leader. You never saw
him on the sideline like running around waving his arms.
That's for some guys. Baker Mayfield big on that. Trevor's

(01:32:05):
kind of the anti Baker Mayfield. If you will, no
chip on the shoulder, I don't got anything to prove
what's up. I'm here, I'm gonna deal. I'm gonna make
it rain. And Trevor Lawrence will have that moment where
everybody in Jacksonville listens to him and it becomes his
team and it's gonna happen early. And you know, I
know Jacksonville has been an outpost for a long time.

(01:32:25):
Nobody's been excited about them since they were in the
a f C Championship game against the Patriots with Jalen Ramsey.
And you know they had they had some talent, but
Blake Bortles basically just outkicked his coverage for a season
and then turned back into Blake Bortles the next year,
and um, we haven't heard from Jacksonville since. So I
love everything about Trevor Lawrence. I urge you to read

(01:32:45):
the story and s I about him. Just very level
headed stuff from a year old who's going to be
easy to root for. All Right, Coming up next, Gavin
and I will dive into over under early looks early
on the NFL season. That's next year on Fox Sports Radio.

Search f s R to listen live. Welcome back Fox
Sports Radio. Gonna do some NFL over unders here. Um,
you guys know, if you can get ahead of the

(01:33:31):
market on some teams, that can be very, very profitable.
I was not smart enough last year to predict Rady
would go to Tampa. I was not smart enough to
get those odds on Tampa to win the Super Bowl,
um well before everyone else, and uh so I did.
I wasn't able to profit. I didn't really believe in Tampa.

(01:33:53):
But it's pretty clear I was wrong, very clear I
was wrong. Um, Gavin, one that jumped out at me
to win the NFC Championship. Everybody likes Tampa. Their heavy favorites,
Green Bay, second, the Rams or third. Forty Niners we
touched on it plus seven hundred. There is a team
that was in the Super Bowl two years ago. Now,
they did lose their defensive coordinator. I think they're down

(01:34:16):
four defensive starters. You like that? Anything about San Fran
plus seven hundred? They are on the toughest division in
the NFC. Yeah, and it's hard to predict what the
quarterback situation is going to look like. I mean, are
they gonna go to the NFC Championship with a rookie quarterback?
Jimmy Garoppolo is still gonna be there. I mean, that's
the tough thing I would I would lean more towards

(01:34:37):
an overtotal on them than to reach. But that is
terrific value with an elite head coach, great roster, maybe
the best non QB roster in the league. I like it. Uh,
Your Chargers are plus four fifty to win the a
f C West um Broncos are going to be better
if they can figure out a quarterback. Raiders, I don't

(01:34:58):
think much of Chiefs are heavy favorites. But do you
see any regression coming the Chiefs? They swapped out both
their tackles in this offseason. Yeah, Chargers played him really
tough both times. Now you bring in a new head coach,
more defensive mindset, they improved in an offensive line, They're
going to improve more in the offensive line. Um, they
lose Melvin Ingram, but you know you get Derwin James back.

(01:35:21):
That's huge. I would definitely bet plus four fifty just
a little on the Chargers to win the West. I
like it. One more division. Um, NFC least Cowboys are favorites.
I feel like that's just because of the Dallas Cowboys
in the public loves to bet the Cowboys Washington second,
but the New York Giants at plus four fifty or third.

(01:35:42):
This is a team that was like two weeks left,
was in the mix to win the division, and they
upgraded significantly in free agency. If you're taking them at
four forty to win the NFC East, I think a
lot of it has to do with do you trust
Danny Dimes or not? And um yeah, I mean he's
he can't complain now he's got Kenny Holiday. I'm gonna
have a healthy se Kwon Barkley. Um my pick in

(01:36:04):
that division is Washington, which I think we'll get to
their over under soon. Um, but you know, I mean
that's great value for forty yeah. Um, all right, now
let's get to so. I guess we can say william Hill,
they don't pay for sponsorship here, but their sports book
released over under wind totals for and again the draft

(01:36:27):
hasn't happened. But how much really can the draft impact
wins and losses? Like first year players, it's not like
they're very often just becoming massive um agents of change
outside of quarterback. And I don't think anybody expects Zach
Wilson to come in and boo yah, the Jets are

(01:36:48):
right there. What what do you want to start with?
Kevin Well? I just teased it will do that. Washington?
What do you have Washington? Now? See, my only problem
is a quarterback situation like well, they upgraded in my
opinion with Ryan Fitzpatrick. Um, you bring in a star
studded defensive line that is just a handful. Um. I

(01:37:10):
you know, let's see they bring in Curtis Samuel Um.
I like Washington. I see him at eight. What do
you have it at? Yeah, I'm at william Hill. Let
me find I like the Washington over I think, by
the way, eight remember seventeen games, so eight would be there.
Under five, Dallas will be better. I think Philly probably improves.

(01:37:35):
They can't play any worse, that's for sure, right Washington
seventeenth game is at Buffalo, so not an easy one there.
Um And they won the division, so the division winner
always plays the tougher schedule. Um, and you like the
over for sure? Huh. I just I like them to
win nine games, and and if I like them to
do that, I like the over. So we talked about

(01:37:56):
the Buccaneers. Could they go undefeated when seventeen game gavin
their win total eleven and a half? That seems low,
does it not? Yeah? I mean, especially when you're predicting
them to go over, it's gonna be. But yeah, I
mean they return everything, brought everyone back, and the Saints

(01:38:17):
lose their quarterback. And the second best team in the NFC,
second best odds is Green Bay. They beat them twice
last I mean, I don't know, are they going to
lose his game in the division? Look at this last year.
They beat the Panthers twice last year. I mean, look
at the total wins and the other teams in that
division seven I'm seeing seven and a half. I've seen

(01:38:39):
nine and a half Saints. I don't think the Saints
nine and a half that's what I see for the Saints.
I don't think they get nine and a half wins
with Jameis Winston or Taysom Hill at quarterback. I don't
think that's a Tendland team. Um, I would like to
over on Tampa. I guess. Yeah. The only pushback on
the Saints is historically Drew Brees has come out and

(01:38:59):
whether it's Bridge Water Taysom Hill, they still win. But
because the salary cap issues, they suffered some losses. I've
got to dig a little deeper on their free agency.
I don't I think they lost like three defensive starters.
They lost Hendricks and their leading SAT guy. Um, he's
now in uh Cincinnati, let's see. I guess the argument

(01:39:20):
is that they went twelve and four last season even
with Breeze being out for a lot of the games. Um, yeah,
I think that's fool's gold, right, Yeah, yeah, that that
that That's how I would leave. What are your thoughts
on Denver? It feels like a team we've expected to
make some sort of a push in a few years.
The quarterback situation is still undecided. Trust Drew Lock. I

(01:39:45):
mean he graded out as the thirty third best quarterback
in the league. He led the league in interceptions despite
only starting thirteen games. He's a bit of a turnover machine,
but he gets Courtland Sutton back Jerry Judy in a
year two. Um, they've got some talent on offense. I
love their defense. Are you on the over earn? I'm
just debating it right now. Um, but my thought is,

(01:40:08):
you know, as as great a wide receivers as they
brought in, they still had a lot of issues with
drops last year, so that's definitely gonna be something they
need to figure out. All right, how are the Bears
winning eight games? Like? Andy Dalton's their starter? Right? Allegedly
that's what they're saying. It's full still there or no,
h he is still there. But yeah, they got so

(01:40:31):
lucky last year. I mean, the Lions were atrocious. The
Vikings were exceptionally bad. Um. I would look at the
Bears under for sure. Yeah, I like the under. I
see seven and a half. Um, obviously they still have
Khalil mack Be, Kim Hicks and real corn Smith. But
hackers are good. I mean the Lions now are are

(01:40:54):
really bad again. It looks like I'm just eyeballing. The
lowest wind total the Lions are at five. The Texans
are at five, but the Lions are five minus one thirty.
Texans are five plus one ten. The Lions have a
bad quarterback. He's author and we know nothing about this

(01:41:16):
head coach who seems like a meathead. The problem is
it is easy to stumble into five wins in a
seventeen game season. I mean, that's a tough one. So
the Bucks are at the high end with eleven and
a half, the Chiefs are twelve. Colts are ten with

(01:41:37):
Carson Wentz. I'm not a I liked everything about the
Colts coach. Team should have beat the Bills. I just
don't like Carson Wentz. All right, I want to you know,
it's late in the show, so I can just totally
blast Reggie Miller and um Charles Barkley again. But I
do want to say I'm close to putting down a

(01:41:59):
little a little bit of money, just that taste on
Steph Curry to win the m v P. He's one
of the hottest players in the league. He's can't miss
from three, he's having just his stats this season are
akin to what they were when he won the m
v P. And of course, you know there's this undercurrent.
We had Cuffs the Legend on a couple of weeks back,

(01:42:20):
and he was talking about the idea of Lebron recruiting Curry,
and then it was this funny report out of the
Bay Area that, oh no, that's not it. Kawhi Leonard
is a potential future warrior. They're looking at him if
the Clippers fail again in the playoffs. It's like, okay, okay,
so Curry finally talked about his future. Here's the sound.

(01:42:45):
It's always been a priority. And you know when you
look at guys like there Co I played you know, against,
and have heard them talk about what that meant. They
don't speak on it lightly. There's a reverence for that club.
You never know what can happen, obviously, but I feel
like that's all has been something that would mean so
much to me. Do you think he's going anywhere, Gavin,

(01:43:06):
It's really hard to see Steph Carey in another uniform. Yeah,
he's just one of those guys, feels like, you know,
and it's not like the NFL, NFL, a lot of
guys move on at the end of their career and listen,
that happens in the NBA to a lot of guys
at the end of their career relocate. Um, I'll here's
a pop quiz. Okay, um, let me just confirm it. Gavin,

(01:43:29):
can you tell me the last jersey that Patrick Ewing
war before he retired? I cannot. I thought you were
gonna ask Dwayne Wade. Now he did. That's a good one.
It was right. Well, I think it was Miami. He
retired with Miami, so I was gonna say Patrick Ewing.
I was going to guess the Sonics, but I'm wrong.
Close close he was thirty eight with the Sonics. At

(01:43:52):
thirty nine, but sixty five games for the Orlando Magic. Yes,
Patrick Ewing. Okay, next up. This was a little year
because I talked about it or referenced it before. A
chema la jawan acheme the dream? Any idea where he
closed out his career Minnesota Timberwolves, A decent guess Toronto

(01:44:16):
Raptors like this is what happens people and I and
and Reggie Miller is is rich. Um. I should preface
this by saying, Reggie Miller blocked me on social media
years ago. I don't know why it never followed him.
I guess I was critical. Is something he said, and

(01:44:36):
he did the preemptive block, which is fine. I don't care.
But this idea that if Reggie Miller were sitting around
as a free agent in the mid nineties and Michael
Jordan's said, hey, Reggie, no, we could use you pull
up the way Draymond called um Kevin Durant, the way

(01:44:57):
Kauai called Paul George. Recruiting happens all over the league now,
and Reggie Miller would have said, bleep you no way
is comical. It's just comical. And I know Reggie Miller's tough.
You got in fights with Jordan's. Yeah, you don't think
Lebron and Curry got in a tiffical Look it up.
There was technical fouls in the finals the year um

(01:45:18):
that Draymond got suspended in the finals and the Warriors
gave away a three one lead, go look it up.
Like this idea that people can't put these things behind
them and team up is funny. The real reason is twofold,
the explosion of a a. You have had players playing

(01:45:39):
together in summer in high school many many times. Okay,
that's number one and number two of social media. Social
media was never around in Reggie Miller did not automatically
know what Michael Jordan and the Bulls were doing. You
have to check a box score. You have to pick
up a newspaper and check a box score. Maybe you

(01:46:00):
could turn on ESPN and see highlights, or I think
CNN had a sports network deal back then and you
have to find highlights. But it wasn't automatically. You go
in your phone and see what all these guys are
up to. Everybody knows what everybody's doing because everybody's announcing
on social media. Oh yeah, I'm Devin Booker. I'm playing

(01:46:22):
Papa Shot against Kyrie Jenner or whatever. Kylie, Kylie Jenner.
You know, all these guys know what's happening. They follow
each other, they d m each other. You can pick
up your phone and text Donovan Mitchell if you are
player x y Z hey man, dude, the sick game
last night. So happy for you. You could not do
that in the nineties. You could not pick up your

(01:46:43):
phone and instantly contact anyone else, And now you can.
It's so much easier to join forces. You're telling me,
guys that somebody hasn't been laying the groundwork with Bradley Beal.
Somebody somewhere has have been like, yo, Brad, you see
what Russ is doing to your team. You see how

(01:47:06):
he's ballhogging and padding stats. And you ready if Luca
Dune it hasn't been laying the groundwork with somebody. I
don't think he's being the best superstar he can be.
This is part of the new job as a superstar.
I'm telling you, Like, there was a report last night
that Zach Levine. You know, the Bulls are trying to

(01:47:29):
keep Zach Levine. They trade for him from Minnesota. Minnesota
looks stupid for giving up on him. Minnesota always looks stupid.
They just do dumb things. And now Zach Levine is
like he may not stick around Chicago. I mean, Zach
Levine is one of the great scorers in the league
right now. You know, he's probably one of the ten
or fifteen best scorers in the in the league, probably
one of the twenty best players right this season for sure.

(01:47:52):
And the Bulls are in the tailspin. They can't win
the rest of the roster. If I'm Chicago, I am
on the horn with Zach Lavine. Should we make a
run at Bradley Beale. He played for Billy Donovan, do
we want to try to make a move on him, Like,

(01:48:13):
this is what you do as a team. You get
your star who's bankable, who's well known, who has five
million followers, who's an All star, who's got adds all
over the league, who's viral doing stuff. This is how
you leverage that to bring in another star. It is
the new NBA. So Reggie Miller taking shots and you know,

(01:48:34):
Charles Barkley taking shots is just comical. These are old
boomers who are clueless as to what's going on in
the league right now. Like, yeah, I respect Barkley for
what he did, especially I respect him demanding he get
out of Philadelphia. Go look it up. He demanded the
team trade him to Phoenix, a contender. Then he demanded

(01:48:55):
to Phoenix, get me the hell to Houston. Scottie Pippen
a free to look this up. This I'm not this
is not me talking out of my rear end. This
is not opinion. These are facts. Go look it up,
Scottie Pippen. Where Michael Jordan retired and there was a lockout,
pipp And said, Yo, I'm not staying for this. I'm
not staying here. The GM said, you know, what Scotty,

(01:49:16):
You were a soldier. You helped us one six titles.
Great player. We haven't paid you because we shafted you
and your agent didn't do his diligence. So where would
you like to go, Scotti Pippott, I'll go to Houston. Okay,
the gift of trade. Scottie Pipott Houston to help him out.
Scottie Pippen instantly goes to a contender. Couldn't pull it off.

(01:49:37):
He came close in Portland. They lost that game seven
to Shack and Kobe. Like this idea that stars in
the nineties didn't want to play with other stars. It's
just slightly different than what's happening now, same but different,
you know that? Like I think that is that a meme?
Or is that like a saying same but different? Like

(01:49:59):
that's what it was in the nineties. So b J.
Armstrong who loves to come on here and argue with
me about all this stuff, like it was happening in
the nineties. The stars were demanding trades and this wasn't
Charles Barkley at the tail end of his careers twenty
nine when he demanded to get out of Philadelphia. If
you don't have the wherewithal and the smarts to say,

(01:50:22):
why am I letting a front office dictate my legacy
in my career? Why don't I take that into my
own hands. You're not doing a good job. You're just not.
Luka don Che has the potential to be an all
time grade I'm not even kidding guys. This guy really
he can end up and this is not hyperbole. Luka

(01:50:43):
Dotes can end up an all time top ten player
in NBA history. The potential is undeniably there. But he
ain't gonna do it alone. Magic did not do it alone.
Larry Bird did not do it alone. They all were
surrounded by stars. Luca don I love the guy. I
like Christie Sportsingas he was a Knicks player. It was
a Knicks hopeful, potential Unicorn bro. Luca Luca don just

(01:51:07):
needs more help than Kristap Sportsingis, Jalen Brunson and Dorian
Phinney Smith. You can laugh all you want. Luca needs
to call in the cavalry. Mark Cuban needs to call
in the cavalry. And you know what, if they can't
do it, Lucas gonna say peace, I'm out. I'm gonna
go somewhere where I can't do it. Fox Sports Radio

Coming up next up on game LaVar Arrington, Plaxico, Burrus,

(01:51:53):
a big You're not Anna him Angels? Are you? I am?
You are okay? Will you go to a game? Oh? Yeah?
Have you gone to one yet? No? No, but I
would love to. I almost went there opening a weekend
series against the White Sox, but wasn't able to go.
I I, you know, I don't know. I haven't looked
at tickets or anything, but I'm curious. What is the situation?

(01:52:16):
Do you have to wear a mask in the stadium? Yeah?
I think it's mass and it's like percent capacity. The
Padres game last night. What made it so cool was
it was like a playoff atmosphere and you could see
Dodger pictures struggling because of how rattled up the crowd was.
And that's why I, you know, my hottest take that

(01:52:37):
I could I could possibly have Right now, is that
some of these titles with the Lakers and Daughters we
just saw. I think we're gonna look back at them
and and go, well, there were no fans there. How
big of an impact is that, because it really does
affect teams, you know in the postseason when you have
to go up against that. Well, for sure, that's a

(01:52:57):
good point because heat Lakers would have been cross country
travel across country. I mean that's one of the not
the longest flight, but one of the longer flights in
America coast to coast like that will wear down a
guy like Lebron. Now, I think that I feel more
confident that the Lakers would have won if anyway, I
feel less confident that the Dodgers, in a full series,

(01:53:20):
in a full season with Kershaw having his injury issues,
would have been able to actually win the World Series
the way. I don't know. It's just to me, I
put a little bit of doubt on that one. Sorry
Dodger fans, No, No, I think that's a fair statement.
Even hundred sixty two games and it's too long. We
should cut it down. It has felt felt like the

(01:53:40):
year of l A with Dodgers Lakers. You see l
A making a final four run. Yeah, but how can
you argue Tampa Bay has had a I know that,
I feel like they deserve Super Bowl champions And then

(01:54:01):
they won the Pennant. So a pretty good year for
Tampa Bay, which we don't really consider like a titan
of a sports town, really had a heck of a year. Yeah. No,
that's that's a great point. Um, how much baseball have
you watched Gavin so far? This? I love baseball, so
I'm I'm a regular season base Yeah, but I also
play fantasy baseball, which makes it a lot of fun daily. Yeah. Yeah,
so it's like you have to adjust your line up. Yeah,

(01:54:23):
it takes well, I just did it right now in
the break. H You know, I have a Nationals player
who's out, so I swapped them out. Um, but it's
just fine. You also learn a lot more about these guys,
and it's such a fascinating It's so different. You know,
there's so many rounds of the draft you think about.
You know, guys get draft in the thirty fourth round
in baseball, you won't see them for five years after

(01:54:43):
you draft them. So different than the NFL. Well, no, no, no,
I'm just talking about in the sport of baseball the
way it works like and guys are in the minor
leagues and um, actually, today this is a fascinating thing
in baseball. Today is the day where teams can sign
players um or bring them up from the minor leagues

(01:55:03):
and they can retain an extra year of control. So
it's a it's a manipulation thing, and it's fascinating that
they can if they bring them up. Now they that
player will have played few enough games this season that
they get to retain a year. It's so you got
to hit the waiver wire. Interesting. Yeah, I mean again,

(01:55:24):
you and the fiance have a dog, so it's not
like you got the kids. So I haven't watched a
lot of a ton of baseball. We'll maybe put it
on during dinner. Um, we started to watch Friday Night Lights.
That's hit the skids. We have family coming in town
all the time now because stuff's open up. Um, so yeah,
we it's also just so nice to see fans back

(01:55:48):
in the stands and just seeing that. It's just really cool.
I'm one of these guys who after March badness is over,
I need like a little siesta because I go hard
form March badness. I try to literally watch every game.
You go way hard, go probably, but I love it.
Then I take a little break, and you know, I
think this was probably a week I didn't watch as

(01:56:08):
much sports. I did Dan Patrick for the first time
with Jason Smith, and um, we agreed on a lot
of Jets fans. I love it. Yes to both Jets fans. Um,
I'm disputing. It was kind of a busy week. Next week,
I think we'll be a little slower. And then comes
to the draft. I'll be doing a draft show for
Fox Sports with a bunch of guys. It's like a

(01:56:28):
four hour draft show. It's I love that stuff. And
and by the way, the difference in me on like
the NFL Draft compared to the NBA Draft is just staggering. Well, yeah,
they barely played, but yeah, college football, you have to
play what three years minimum? Yeah, And that's the thing.
It's the merger of college and NFL, and it's just

(01:56:48):
so exciting. So yeah, Um, the draft is in Cleveland
this year, right, believe I would know. I had tickets
to the last One's right, Wow, big quite a year. Um,
they were gonna be on the boats remember the boats,
you know, and the players get drafted and they're gonna
be on a boat. That's right. Yeah, you know, we're

(01:57:10):
we're looking at Vegas for our fantasy football draft for
this summer. I just don't know what the scene is, like,
what's the pool scene in Vegas. I'll tell you one
when my parents just went there, and one scene is
that marijuana is now legal in Vegas. Yea, it is
very legal everywhere in the casinos, so they were not

(01:57:32):
or at least the smell was just wreaking everywhere. Yeah,
that's that's a new issue. Yeah, well, listen, I'm not
trying to go to the pool scene. If you have
to like wear a mask at the pool like that,
ain't come on. That's you know. Well, I mean, I'm
sure there'll be some girls where a mask covers up
more than the bathing suit, But the pools in Vegas
are legendary and it's been a few years for me,
so I have that on the calendar. All right, everybody,

(01:57:53):
great show, Thank you, Gavin. I always say I'm Chris
isaac Up on Game is Next and I will be
posting the podcast online. I will catch you next week.
