On today’s episode, Jason and Super Producer Rob G (Robert Guerra) kick things off by discussing the Denver Nuggets’ win over the Miami Heat in Game 3 of the NBA Finals. Nikola Jokic and Jamal Murray put on a historic performance to lead Denver to their second double-digit win in the last three games. It seems apparent at this point that unless Jimmy Butler and Co. get white hot from three that Miami has no chance of beating the Nuggets in this series. Later, the guys share a few quick thoughts on the uncertainty surrounding Chris Paul after news leaked the Phoenix Suns plan to waive him, as well as a quick note on Lionel Messi’s decision to bring his talents to Inter Miami of the MLS. Finally, J-Mac closes the show by sharing his thoughts on the salacious love triangle surrounding New Orleans Pelicans star Zion Williamson. Is it possible that Zion is actually a worse position moving forward than Ja Morant?

Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume. This is straight Fire with Jason McIntyre. What
is up straight Fire, baym It's me Jason McIntyre. Straight
Fire for Thursday, June eighth. Ladies and gentlemen, gave you

(00:25):
a winner last night. How about that bam out of
Baio barely clears twenty points And that's like the seventeenth
great story on what was shockingly an amazing, amazing Wednesday
in sports. Listen the game Nuggets. They roll one O
nine ninety four. This will be known as the Christian
bron game. Not all that different from the There was
a Caleb Martin game in the Celtics Heat series. There

(00:48):
was the Lonnie Walker game in the Lakers Warriors series.
It happens. Role players deliver. I will never forget. At
the beginning of the playoffs, I was talking on the
Herd with cow Herd about, you know, the teams, and
I said, role players matter, and he was a bit surprised.
I'm like, listen, you know what the stars are gonna
give you. Now. I don't think Jokic and Murray are
gonna give you a triple double every night, but after that,

(01:08):
what are you getting the supporting cast? And I know
that everybody's gonna like hype the Jokis triple double, the
thirty twenty ten and Murray also getting the triple double,
the thirty pointers, the first pair of teammates in the
history of basketball to get thirty point triple doubles in
the same game. That's never happened playoffs, regular season, obviously preseason.

(01:29):
Just a staggering amount of production from those two. By
the way, Murray and Yokich combined for twenty assists. I
look at the.

Speaker 2 (01:36):
Heat total twenty assists.

Speaker 1 (01:39):
But listen, we can't give Christian Brown all the hype
Brown Braun. I know Van Gundy had fun with how
you say his name. I like the kid coming out
of Kansas. Just a quick NBA drafting, Like experience matters. Guys,
remember that for the draft later this month, people didn't
love Braun. Oh he said, Junior, why is he coming out?
Christian Broun showed you why experience matters. This is an
older kid. He's not like an eighteen nineteen year old

(01:59):
who's being three us into the playoffs. As Michael Malone
said after the game, Braun has like twenty playoff games
under his belt. This is not some newbie. I know
he is a rookie in name, but this is a
guy who did not look afraid. Hey guys, anybody see
him defending Jimmy Butler in the fourth quarter twice, got
stops twice as Miami was trying to bount to comeback.
Just a really good game all around from Denver. And

(02:20):
you know, Michael Porter Junior remains on the struggle bus.
One for seven shooting. I did collect seven boards, but
twenty one minutes played. That's fewer than Bruce Brown, who
played twenty nine. Christian Braun nineteen. So what Malone noticed was, hey,
Porter again not on. He had some open looks from
three and then played Bruce Brown. He was okay, but
he was missing two. Brown won a five KCP, won

(02:43):
of four MPJ one of seven. Those guys aren't hitting
maurinjokitch delivery. Where's the production coming from? Enter Christian Brown
late third quarter and I was taking in my notes
because I wrote Christian Braun takeover and it was just
unbelievable how he kept scoring. So in the final let's
see here, the lead was twelve, okay, the heat, we're

(03:05):
down twelve. Christian Brown comes in and the lead instantly
gets pushed up to nineteen. Bron scores six in that timeframe,
and it's like, oh my gosh, the lead's up to nineteen,
and then they keep him in for the fourth and
Braun continues to deliver. Again. Guys, this is one of
those games where, like, you know, we know they're gonna
lose Bruce Brown in the offseason, like he's gonna get
paid by somebody. Christian Brown is ready. We even saw

(03:26):
Reggie Jackson, saw Reggie Jackson sighting in the first half,
a mild surprise out of me. I like Reggie Jackson
with the Clippers. He would give the Lakers fits. He
showed up. But Michael Malone pushing all the right buttons,
Murray and Jokic deliver and if you're Miami, you're down
to one now. I know, George Sodano, our guest this week,
gonna be kind of devastated. But you look around and

(03:47):
I mean, this is not a great performance from the
Miami he shooters. We love to say it's a make
or miss league. Well, a lot of these guys, Max Struce,
Gabe Vincent, and these are not even close to stars.
You know, you know, Jimmy Butler's gonna give you twenty
eight and Bam out of Bayo he's gonna deliver. But
other than those two guys, who have you been able

(04:09):
to reliably count on in this series? Caleb Martin eight
in the first half, ends up with ten, Max Shrust
and Vincent combined two for ten on threes. Kevin Love
hit a couple threes, then barely gets in the game again.
Kyle Lowry, I know he finished with nine points, but overall,
I didn't think he played well from three. Miami just

(04:30):
eleven of thirty five thirty one percent. They shot thirty
seven percent from the field. And if you're looking at
like how they're able to miss so many shots, I
think you could at this point look at the length
of Denver. Now, the score book says the almost said
the Broncos. The Nuggets only had five blocks and Jokich
with two and Bruce Brown with three, but their length

(04:50):
defensively really impacted the heat. They missed a lot of bunnies.
By the way, I was sweating that Bam out of
Bayo bet nineteen and a half points. The guy took
twenty one shots. I mean, he's big, he should make
at least fifteen of those. He makes seven of them
because of the length of Denver inside and points in
the paint ultimately told the tale. This was a problem
for the Lakers. They could not handle Jokic and Gordon,

(05:12):
who I didn't even mention even porter size, like keeping
balls alive sixty to thirty four points in the paint.
Jokic remains a cheat code, and folks, you never want
to write anybody off after one game. You don't want
to write anybody off after three games. But I'm back
to where I was after game one. It feels like

(05:33):
the Miami Heater toast and maybe they get a herculean
effort from Jimmy Butler and he delivers forty. By the way,
we're still waiting on it. Jimmy, he didn't have a
great game once again, shot under fifty percent. This is
a recurring theme. I don't want to say he's not
one hundred percent, but Jimmy Butler, remember was injured in
the last round, injured against the Knicks. He hasn't been

(05:54):
one hundred percent, and I just I wonder if he's
starting to run out of gas he or carrying this team.
He was fin nominal against the Bucks at eleven or
twenty four. But when Vincent and Strus give you nothing
and then Duncan Robinson came in with some garbage points,
it just it did not really happen from Miami. The
game got blown open in the third and we got
a two to one series lead. I don't know, listen.

(06:15):
I know the NBA purist get all upset when you
try to talk about anything other than the finals. But folks,
as I alluded to earlier Wednesday in Sports, we'll get
to him shortly. Leon L. Messi is coming to the MLS.
That is a massive seismic story. Obviously, you know I
own I have an ownership stake and a team in
Liga MX which plays against MLS teams and Leagues Cup.

(06:38):
I'll be hopefully going to a game in Dallas or
Charlotte in July for my team Nakasa. So Messi's a
big story. Then you had Chris Paul. Now varying reports
on Chris Paul that he's gonna be waived, or they're
gonna work something out, or maybe they'll do a side
and trade. The initial report from Chris Haynes was he's
gonna be done. Huge story, the story that's dangerous, that

(07:02):
I'm sure I'm gonna have trouble talking about on the
Herd on Thursday. They probably won't even let us talk
about it. Zion Williamson. I don't know, Rob. Before I
get to the second story off the NBA Finals, I'll
give you some thoughts on the Finals, but Rob, I
need you, like I think Messi's a massive story. I
think Chris Paul's a huge story. I think Zion might

(07:22):
be the biggest first of all, do you agree on that?
Should we do Zion next? Or do we save Zion
for the end and make the audience wait and tease
them the way Zion's stripper girlfriend and porn star girlfriend
and tease him.

Speaker 2 (07:38):
Okay, when you the way you describe it there at
the end is why you have to save it. You
got to build anticipation, get the TSL up, because when
you have a love triangle involving an overweight NBA superstar,
an only fans porn star, and of I'm assuming retired stripper,
the anticipation is building. We got to get to that

(08:01):
at the end. Yeah, we got to get to that
at the.

Speaker 1 (08:03):
End of the game. Can Miami come back in the
series answers?

Speaker 2 (08:06):
Obviously, No, right, No, I mean I told you after
game one, like like Denver, we still haven't even seen
peak Denver yet. You know, Michael Porter Junior, KCP, Bruce Brown,
none of them have played well together in any of
these games yet, and Denver has two blowout wins under
their belt. I know that the final score didn't look

(08:27):
that bad. I think it was eleven and fifteen against
one to three, but in the third quarter they were
up twenty plus in each of them, and it could
have been a lot worse. That these guys would make
their shots when they're open, which you know, Michael Porter
Junior is not quite D'Angelo Russell level bad right now.

Speaker 1 (08:41):
But he's he's on trying to take over Russell.

Speaker 2 (08:45):
Absolutely, but he's just he's just not playing well. And
Miami as much as you know, shout out to George
of Donald front of the show. The games that they
want that they lost, they shot thirty one and thirty
three percent from three the one game they want they
shoot basically, and it's like, look, man, your history and
statistics and numbers tell you you're not gonna shoot fifty percent

(09:08):
from three every game in an NBA Finals game. This
is very similar to the Phoenix Suns when they beat
Denver twice in round two. The only reason that they won,
and we talked about on this podcast, was Devin Booker
and Kevin Durant had to go nuclear. They had to
combine for seventy five points with then to win a game.
As soon as that number was not met, they lost.
And that's exactly what's gonna happen in this series. Unless

(09:29):
Miami is shooting mid to high forties from three. Denver
has too many weapons, they're too big, they're too strong,
and Jokic and Murder are just too good. Period.

Speaker 1 (09:39):
Let me just quickly. I know people are gonna say
you're not talking about Jokic enough. I mean, it's definitely
not a hot take to say he's a top ten
center in NBA history already. Okay, like the stats he's
putting up, the two MVP Awards, he's obviously top ten.
I think the question, Rob is how high would you
have him on the list. So on most lists, Patrick

(10:00):
Ewing is considered a top ten, probably top eight center
all time. I'm looking up Patrick Ewing and you guys know,
I was a Huemongus Patrick Ewing fan. One of my
favorite players MVP awards for Patrick Ewing, zero, NICOLEA Jokic,
triple double machine, two MVPs. He's about to win a title.

(10:22):
I don't think there's any debate that Yokich has already
had a better career than Patrick Ewing.

Speaker 2 (10:26):
Agree or disagree, I totally agree.

Speaker 1 (10:30):
So then it comes to a guy like David Robinson,
who was more prolific offensively did win one MVP. Now
I'm not one hundred percent I probably should have researched
it before going into this, but I think he won
a scoring title by scoring like seventy two in the
final game of the seasons. Okay, okay, some number in
the seventies. He has an MVP. He's got, I guess

(10:51):
a couple titles. Two titles, one with Duncan, one without
right ninety nine no dunk.

Speaker 2 (10:58):
I think he's only won the one with Duncan.

Speaker 1 (11:00):
One get two thousand and three, so he has two titles.
The ninety nine to one was the lockout year, the
one after Jordan retired.

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Yeah, I mean, do you really count the two thousand
three because they didn't really play on that team. If
I recall ninety nine one, he was starting obviously a pivotal,
but they Okay, well, sure we'll count it.

Speaker 1 (11:19):
I think David Robinson versus Nikola Jokic is an interesting
one and and I'm sorry, but I've got to go
Nicola jokicch. I know people gonna say recently Bias the
Admiral was amazing. I don't know rob I would lean Jokic.

Speaker 2 (11:34):
I would lean Robinson right now. It's it's so early.
Like I said, Jokics, you will pass it. Resume is
still being written, so he's definitely on a trajectory where
he's gonna blow past Robins.

Speaker 1 (11:46):
Then then we're getting into guys like Moses Malone, who
has three MVP Awards Finals MVP. By the way, Yokich is,
I don't think anything Jamal Murray can do to win
finals MVP like Jokic. It feels like a lock one
title for Moses Malone. Again, in that era, Moses Malow
was a perfect center. Jokic is now the model center.

(12:07):
That's what you want. You want, you know, your center
being able to dish out ten assists, and then you
know if you put him in that category, he's right
there next to alajah One, Shack Wilt Russell, Jabbar, like
Jokic is going to be creeping in on that territory.
I don't think he's going to have the resume of
Jabbar obviously to be the best ever but best passing

(12:31):
big man. He's got it. He is unstoppable at this point.
And I don't know I've run out of adjectives for
Nicola Jokic trop.

Speaker 2 (12:38):
Yeah, he's fantastic and and I caught some flak for
saying on this podcast and on social media that I
thought that Yannis was still the best player in the NBA.
I thought that the difference between Jokic and Yannis offensively
was not as big as difference between Yannis and Jokic defensively,
and having watched him more closely throughout this postseason run,
I don't think Joch is ever going to be a
great defender. But he's a smart defender. He uses his

(13:01):
size well, and he's willing, so in a lot of ways,
he's like Steph Curry. Steph's physical profile is going to
prevent him from ever becoming an elite defender, but the
fact that he gives good effort and he uses what
physical advantage he does have, In which case, Yogi is
just his massive size. He's at least an average.

Speaker 1 (13:19):
Yeah, he's not awful. He's not like, yeah, he's.

Speaker 2 (13:21):
Not awful at all. And and I think that it's
the more you watch him play and what he's doing
to this Miami Heat team and what he already did
the Lakers and the Suns before that, it's getting to
a point where it's almost a hot take to say
he's not the best player in the league. Right, that's fair.
And the way his body's built and the way his

(13:42):
game is, it's only going to age gracefully. I think
he's still in his twenties if I recall.

Speaker 1 (13:46):
Yeah, it's twenty eight, so he's gonna get better. I
don't know how he will age and do his thirties
as a passer great but offensively, uh some limitaro.

Speaker 2 (13:55):
He's not like he's super athletic now.

Speaker 1 (13:56):
Yeah, but he's only going to slow down. He's not
going to get faster. All right, Let's quickly pivot to
an interesting story, Chris Paul, which report do you believe? Rob?
There's the Chris Haynes that he's gonna be waived? Then
ESPN woj and Scham's kind of downshifted to Wall, it's
not over. They're gonna explore all options, and you know,
the idea that he's going to be waived I think

(14:18):
really kills any leverage Phoenix had of trading him, or
a significant amount of leverage. I did see my guy
Ryan Glaspiegel, who worked with at the Big Lead, had
an interesting theory that the Grizzlies, knowing John Moran's going
to get a massive suspension, should offer Chris Paul, Hey,
we really only need you for half a season. Come
be point guard with Tyas Jones for us mentor John

(14:40):
Moran on how to be an adult, and you know
if you want to, will release you if you want
to go to a contender later in the year, maybe
some wink wink nod agreement. I don't think that's awful.
I think Lebron certainly should look at him as a
backup point guard. But is he gonna want to play
on the cheap? It really depends on what Chris Paul's
willing to play for. I think there's some value in him.

(15:01):
I just don't think you could be able to counter
on him in the playoffs obviously.

Speaker 2 (15:05):
Yeah, and that's the only downside of Chris Paul at
this point, with his age and his injury history, especially
in the playoffs, is the teams who are gonna want
him are gonna be championship contender ish teams you would expect,
and that's where he'd want to go. The double side
of that coin, though, is that history says he's gonna
get hurt at some point in the playoffs. Yeah, so
whatever team gets him is gonna need to either number

(15:26):
one have a lot of depth or number two have
other ball handlers so that when the inevitable Chris Paul
injury pops up, you're not like a sunken chip. So
that's why I think the these is a good idea.
I think obviously the Lakers with Lebron is gonna make
a lot of sense. I think the Clippers another team
you gotta keeping. The Clippers and the Celtics are two
teams that desperately need a point guard to quarterback, and

(15:47):
they have a lot of depth on their team, a
lot of wings scoring. So I would be shocked if
he's back in Phoenix and I'm calling it out he's
gonna end up with the.

Speaker 1 (15:55):
Ring Chase with the Bucks should probably be in the mix.
I'm sure if he wants to go to Miami. They
will glad they have room from They're probably gonna lose
Struce and Vincent or at least one of them. A
lot of free agents on that team. Let's quickly pivot
to Leonel Messi, which is a massive story. I'm sure
it's large segment of our audience who doesn't care about
soccer is gonna fast forward. I don't think folks realize
how big this is for MLS. David Beckham's come here,

(16:16):
Wayne Rooney's come here. Leonel Messi is a different beast.
This is a guy who just won the World Cup,
widely regarded as the greatest soccer player in the history
of the sport. Listen, obviously he's not prime Leonel Messi
at this stage in his career. But I've seen some reports.
I'm on a soccer text chain out here with some
lafc SE's the ticket holders, and they're like, holy cal

(16:39):
Messi's coming. The tickets are going through the roof. I
think most people hold onto those tickets. Some could sell
for a pretty prep penny, but they're expecting Messi maybe
as soon as July. In the MLS. That is enormous
for a soccer starved country to get the greatest player
in the history of the sport. Folks. I know people
don't want to buy the soccer arrow pointing up, but

(16:59):
off are you go to World Cup the US? You
know they probably could have gone farther. This is just
another added bonus to the MLS, soccer and North America.
And oh, by the way, I wonder if more people
will sign up for Apple TV now that you can
automatically see messi games on Apple TV. If you saw
somebody put out I forget who put it. It might have

(17:19):
been one of these reporters who just track social media.
Enter Miami added I believe two point seven million followers
on social media after the messy news was announced. Two
point seven million. Imagine if like one percent of that
gets an Apple TV subscription, what just one percent? You're

(17:41):
looking at a massive uptick to trickle down economics here
are gonna be huge drop. This is enormous for soccer,
and you know I'm a big fan and the MLS.

Speaker 2 (17:50):
Yeah, it's huge. And actually I did want to ask
you because I think you would know better than I would.
I'm obviously I only casually watch soccer, and even then
it's probably only during the World Cup. But what my
confusion with this move is is that it was reported
that he was offered one point six billion dollars to
play in that Saudi League and he turned it down.
Obviously he had a good offer standing from FC Barcelona.

(18:14):
I think he had already decided he wasn't go back
to PSG, so that might be a new point. But
I can't imagine that whatever he's going to make an
MLS with their contract, plus the rights or the cut
of the Apple TV and the cut of Adidas is
going to equal or be much more than what he
would have gotten had he stayed in Europe. So what

(18:36):
exactly is the reason? I know why it benefits America
and MLS, but what is his benefit for coming to MLS,
Because if he wanted to buy a team, he could
have just bought on his own. He has plenty of money,
So what's the reason.

Speaker 1 (18:48):
I haven't seen the contract details yet as we were
recording this after the Nuggets Heat game, It's nearly midnight
on the East Coast. I am curious if he got
an ownership stake the way Beckham was talked about when
he came to ownership stakes, are massive. These values are
continually going up for soccer franchises around the globe. And
I'll be honest, I don't personally know Messi, but we

(19:09):
talked Rob about the the Saudi impact in golf. Well,
there's also a Saudi impact in soccer, and Christiano Ronaldo
had no problem taking their money. I don't maybe Messi
did not want to get involved with that. Maybe he
didn't want to move his family to Saudi Arabia to.

Speaker 2 (19:26):
Play in the league over there.

Speaker 1 (19:27):
Man, Maybe he just didn't want to. I don't know
Messi on that level. He's kind of guarded. I've only
read a couple of really good profiles of him. But
it's possible that he just did not want to get
involved with those guys. And also like, if you've got
the option, Hey, honey, do we want to move the
family to Miami for a couple of years. Just check
it out, like a life experience Miami. Yeah, like a

(19:51):
couple that's all. That's a win win for everybody. I
just I think it's awesome for the league and very
excited for Inter Miami Leona Messi. Hopefully he comes out
here West I can get the kids, take us to
a game. We'll check it out, but rob we saved
the best for last. And unfortunately, like I didn't charge
my computer and my son just keeps playing chess and
draining my battery. So I'm at four percent and I've

(20:13):
got like thirty minutes of material for the Zion Williamson story.
It's probably gonna get us in some trouble. I don't
mind getting in trouble. I'm gonna start here. Big picture,
if you were not on social media, if you're listening
to this in the car with your kid driving him
to school, may want to ear muffet or save this
for later. So Zion Williamson's girlfriend went off on a

(20:38):
tangent on social media, some woman tagging him and saying
all this stuff that was not great. And then you
start looking at her and you're like, oh, she's kind
of a big deal. Oh oh, one of those deals.
And you know she's an actress, you know what I'm
talking about, And she's upset that Zion was photographed a

(21:02):
day earlier at a childbirth announcement of a girl he
was dating that the actress did not know about. And
this girl, I guess is a former dancer. And if
you go on her social media. It is, you know,
basically not good, not great if you're in the Zion

(21:24):
Williamston circle, so yes, the story's true. Basically, he was
dating in an adult film actress and he decided he's
gonna cheat on her with a former stripper. And if
you look on social media, and I don't advise looking
on YouTube searching their names, Zion's got himself a problem here.
And ladies and gentlemen, I pose this to our staff

(21:47):
before I say staff, you know, we get to zoom
together with a few guys. Who are you more concerned for?
John Morant or Zion Williamson And there was laughter as expected.
I think a case could be made that I'm more
worried about Zion Williamson like Ja Morant. I know, he
was photographed with a gun in an ig video.

Speaker 2 (22:09):
I get it.

Speaker 1 (22:09):
Maybe there's an alcohol issue that's obviously severe. He's got
to clean that up. He's at least played and showed
an aptitude to deliver on the basketball court, showed a
lot of it. Zion Williamson is eating his way out
of the league and oh, by the way, in his
spare time. This is the kind of person he's hanging
over with this is what he's doing. He's not the first,
He's not the last NBA player to get in one

(22:30):
of these situations. Yes, Paul George ended up juggling many strippers,
apparently married. Well, I don't whatever the story is. Zion
Williamson is a young dude, apparently on the rise. He
was giving some weird cryptic quotes at the end of
the season about how Zion's got to get right, and
Zion's got He's talking about himself from the third person.

(22:52):
He hasn't done squat in the NBA, and now this
is his big story. He looks mortified by the way
to be in the photosouncing that he got this chick pregnant,
And I think you've got to start to question a
lot of the decisions he's making New Orleans, from food
to circle of friends to the Women's Day, Like, this

(23:13):
is a guy who could end up I'm not even kidding.
He could end up a cautionary tale rob in a
couple of years if he doesn't clean up his act.
This is all very, very bad. He's one more injury
away from just being done. Honestly, would you couple the
injury with his decisions he's making off the court. I don't.
I don't like the place he's in at all right now.

Speaker 2 (23:32):
Yeah I don't. I mean, it's a wild story, but
I don't think what he does in his personal life
and the strippers and onlyfan models that he is allegedly
going in unprotected with, has anything to do with his back.

Speaker 1 (23:47):
Hold. He doesn't have basketball, rob, he's not playing. He's
hurt and take it forever to come back, and many
he's taking forever to come back because he's enjoying life
off the court so much. Is that possible if he
were already delivering on the court and perpetual All Star
and in the playoffs. I'm fine, but he's not even
playing now.

Speaker 2 (24:07):
I'm more worried about his weight and and what he's
doing to not stay in shape than I am with
Who are where he decides to, you know, get involved
with And if he wants to hook up with porn
stars and strippers, then you're not the first athlete to
do it. I believe there's an athlete that's currently in
the NBA finals right now who impregnated a port no

(24:30):
no let the brown.

Speaker 1 (24:32):
Yeah that's right. I think we touched yes.

Speaker 2 (24:35):
Brown, Yes, it is Bruce Brown. So he's doing fine.

Speaker 1 (24:37):
He did down low. He's not juggling multiple he's actually
