Speaker 1 (00:01):
The volume brilliant drive by Bryce Young. You see the
elusiveness would be a Bryce You show the right never hurt,

(00:25):
doesn't have happy feet. Sexy players here, Awareness, understanding, recognition, awareness,
understanding recognition. That kid is good, that kid is good,
That kid is good, that kid is good. All right, Hey, everybody,

(00:47):
what's up? Welcome to another episode of the Bryce Young
Podcast on Jake Crane from The Jay Boys Show. Let's
bring in the star of the show as usual. Coming
off another big win in the iron Ball, tough one
against Auburn, hard fought, Mr Bryce Young, Bryce, what's up?
What was it good? How are you doing? Good? Man?
Another week? I feel like we've been doing this for
like three years now. Man. It's it's just like it's
it's all natural. It's all organic exactly, but you know,

(01:11):
speak speaking a natural organic. We're gonna get to the
iron Ball because there's there's a lot to unpack there.
But first, Thanksgiving holiday, I know you did some good eating.
Did you have time in between prep? I know you
eat as a team. We're gonna load you up with
the mashed potatoes and the mac cheese and stuff like that,
but did you have some family time? Yeah? Luckily I
was able to UM my. I was able to be

(01:31):
with my actually a few members of my family, my parents,
my grandma, a few other cousins. We were able to
UM have Thanksgiving dinner UM on Thanksgiving too, I was
able to go over UM with them and was able
to eat. So it was always good to have family around.
And then Friday we have our team Thanksgiving UM like
Thanksgiving lunch. So so that was good. So it's definitely

(01:54):
definitely good holidays for sure. And you know, a big
question something we talked about a lot, and I hate
to put you on the spot here, Bryce, something You've
got a lot going on, But are you a Cranberry
sal sky yea or nay? And no, no, no no, no no,
that's congratu Yeah, congrats to you. I want to be
the first one to congratulate you on that. I can't
send it either. It's one of the most overrated things
I think that that is on this planet. But you know, Bryce,

(02:17):
you know me, Me and you talked about pregame prep.
You know, we've talked about the routine, we talked about
the process, We've talked about the face less nameless opponent.
Iron Bowl week, your first week Yeah, your first iron
Ball at the starting quarterback at the University Alabama going
to Auburn. The air tastes a little different this week.
I mean, was there a little a little different you know,
buzz in the air? You know, I think so. Um,

(02:40):
you know, like you said, with it being the Iron Bowl,
would that being such a big rivalry? Um, you know
we all understand understood and knew what it meant. And um,
you know as a just as a state, you know,
there's a lot of pride behind it and for us,
for everyone who's played there in the past. You know,
there's there's just a lot of pride. Um. So you know,
it's definitely something that meant a lot to us. And
then that was that was that was special. So whenever

(03:02):
there's a game like that, you know, you you always
can um, you always can count on kind of something special,
something extra. You you played in some big time atmospheres already.
How did this one rank? Yeah? I know it was
a crazy atmosphere. Um, super loud obviously you know there's
some some some big situations and some but um, but yeah,

(03:23):
it was crazy atmosphere. Um. You know people had said
that going in and then now experience in it. Um,
you know you see kind of that rivalry and you
get to kind of be a part of it, and UM,
see know fold, Um you know it was It was
definitely a great experience. And I know you've watched the
tape from the game, and I don't want to get
into the weeds, but after watching it, you know, what
are your initial thoughts? What do you think? You know,

(03:44):
there's a lot that we can improve on. Um, you know,
a lot that I can do better, a lot that
you know, as a team, especially as um you know offensively,
can can improve on and get better at. So UM,
you know there there's good with it, you know, you know,
with our backs against the wall and UM, you know
it wasn't necessary. I feel like, you know, we we

(04:05):
stepped up, which is always good. But UM, you know
when you look at it and and you see the
stuff that we can build on and improve on, um,
you know you definitely see a lot of films. So UM,
right now, you know, obviously it's a it's a really
big week for us, so you know, we have to
improve on this stuff we didn't do as well and
build on the stuff we felt like we did do well.
And UM, you know we have to have a great

(04:25):
week of preparation this week. You know, I saw and
and again me and we talked about this. I mean
in all sports. You look at basketball, you look about baseball.
Sometimes you're not gonna score sixty points in the game,
and you gotta be able to win games in multiple
ways to survive at this level, especially in the SEC.
I saw you guys on the sideline. Man, y'all stayed engaged.
What was kind of going on the side of you're
just hYP hyping each other up, keeping each other in

(04:46):
the game, you know. I know Jamo went out. You
were one of the first people over there that went
to talk to him, tell them it's gonna be okay.
We know how emotional that is when you're asked to
leave a game. What was going on the sideline there,
It seemed like you guys kept it together the whole game. Yeah,
I mean, you know it was you know, we're put
into a lot of such situations. There's a lot of emotions,
obviously with it being since a tight game and um,
you know, with throughouty means. But I felt like the

(05:08):
biggest thing was us being able to, you know, stick
together through all of it and look at each other
and kind of kind of feed off of each other
and allowing each other. And I think that's what allowed
us to you know, stay, stay in it and and
end up be coming out successful. So I think that
was definitely a big part of it. Yeah, And you know,
to going in into that last drive, was there anything

(05:28):
you said to the guys before you all went out
there to have to march yards to win the Iron
Bowl and your first ever Iron Bowl on the road,
you know, first ever iron balls and starting quarterback on
the road. What was there anything said before you all
went out in that drive or was it just you know,
let's just go do what we do. Yeah, you know,
I think there's kind of just a mutual understanding with
all of us. You know. Again that's that's that's a

(05:48):
bunch of reps and trust we have with each other.
And um, I think we all we all understood, um,
you know, the magic to the moment, but we all
have faith and we all trust in each other. And
you know, it wasn't you know, it was kind of
just all of us together, um, you know, coming together
and knowing that we you know, um, you know, we
we we knew the situation and we we trust each other,
and um, you know it was all of us that

(06:10):
stepped up on on a drive like that, So it
was really just us, you know, just just being able
to feed off of and reaffirm each other, just knowing,
um that trust that we built within each other, and um,
you know we all you know, I, I know, I
definitely wouldn't wanted to be in that situation with anyone else.
And you know, I feel like we all felt like
that that ball that touchdown pass to to basically send

(06:32):
it to overtime. When it left your hand, did you
knew what was did you know it was the dot?
I know? Yeah, I know, you're a humble guy. You're
gonna say it was a great catch and this, that
and the other. But when you let that ball go, man,
that ball came out clean. You threw that ball with
some with some ump behind it too. I've seen it. Yeah,
it was definitely a great catch. But yeah, once I
let it go, you know you can kind of feel
where the ball is gonna go and it felt good.

(06:53):
But you know it, Accord did a great job running
that route, you know, making a great catch and a
huge moment, and you know, for him for that to
be his first romboys first, you know as a freshman. Um,
really first meaningful snap in a in a road environment
and with it being our and that's that's a crazy one.
So for him to step up the way he did, Um,

(07:13):
it's it's it's you know, it's crazy to see it
having so um and you know the whole drive. You know,
it's everyone stepping up and you know all living that
are on the field. So UM just happy to be
a part of it. What what went through your head
right when it right when the rev put his hands
up with a touchdown. I know you don't show a
ton of emotion. You could see it. There was a

(07:34):
lot that had built up before that, and you could
see the excitement from everybody and I think there was
some offensive lineman jump higher than you did. But what
was what was the emotion that kind of came out there? Yeah, no,
you know, as I was exciting, it was it was
it was a it was a you know, a good
job and it was a great moment for us. UM.
But you know you kind of have to like, you know,
you you you're happy about it, but then you know

(07:54):
it was a tie game at the time, so you
kind of have to refocus on the sideline. UM, so
you know, you're happier, poked up, and then um on
the sideline, you gotta kind of recenter and realized that
at the time of the job, you know, there's still
a job left to be done, you know, as it
was tied, so you have to make sure that everyone's
everyone's focused, everyone's recentered in the um. You know, we
had to finish the job in over time. Did you

(08:14):
know you're gonna have a Higsman moment? I mean, honestly,
it's you know, I was really just concerned about the team.
It was just it was just as winning. Um there
was there was at any thought of anything individual or
anything like that. It was just a big moment um
for us as a team. And obviously that was you
know that game, you know, you know that was that

(08:36):
was such a big game and it was just about winning.
And you know, even now it's you know, we have
a big challenge ahead of us now, and you know,
anything that's that's individual or anything that stuff that I
can't control, that stuff that is out of my control.
So it's not something that I don't really like put
a bunch of energy in or thought about Um, really,
I'm just just focused on the team. You know, I

(08:56):
had to ask though it was the unbelievable play. It
was unbelievable. Still in again, I appreciate it, and you
know we're trying to do some things over here. But
you know, to Bryce, I mean looking looking ahead of
this week, you know again, I feel like I said
this every week I have you on one big game down,
another one to go. I mean, it's just how it is. Now.
It's an even bigger game onto the CC Championship against
the Georgia team. And look what you know, me, I'm

(09:17):
not gonna pars in the words. We know how talented
they are and how much respect you know, you guys
have for them. You know, what are your feelings on
this game going in? I mean it's it's a big week.
Yeah yeah, so, uh it's a really big game. Obviously,
this is this is a you know, this is one
of our goals is you know, it's always been reaching
and um, you know, getting to that SEC championship. Like

(09:38):
you said, it's against a really really good team. Um,
a really really good team. You know, you know, watch
some on film, Um you know talk you know, talk Tom,
really good team really good coaching staff. You can tell
their world coached or discipline, uh, you know, really talented.
So again it's a it's a really good team. And um,
you know it's at a big moment and you know
in Atlanta and SEC championship. So you know, for us,

(10:01):
we know it's going to take you know, we know
what's gonna take. It's gonna take everything for us. We're
gonna have to have a great week of preparation. Um,
we have to do everything right. So I'm just excited
for the opportunity. You know, it seems like too Bright
said Alabama and George is kind of becoming like a
rivalry a little bit. I mean, you guys, it seems
like competing against each other every year. I mean, I
know Florida was in Atlanta last year, but George has been,

(10:23):
you know, at the forefront of the East. You know,
do you get do you look at Georgia and and
you know see it see that game kind of more
of a rivalry as we did in the past, you
know before it's kind of we've had this four to
five year kind of you know, Kirby Smart Nick Saban
type situation. I mean, I've definitely been been blessed to
be a part of, you know, a program like Alabama
that has a you know, the history was saving that

(10:44):
it that um you know that he's built and that
it does. And um Georgia has an amazing program as
well that like you said, it had success. Um you
know obviously, UM, you know a lot of success this year.
I had success in the past. Um again it's it's
it's two story programs. So for us to be able
to play each other and um, you know, for it
to be at this moment um again, it's a great opportunity.

(11:07):
I'm I'm just you know, I'm happy we we all
get that opportunity. Has anybody reached out any former Alabama
quarterbacks reached out that you can say, you know, I
don't want to get too personal, but have you gotten
maybe a hey man, go do your thing, or congratulations
on iron But you've got any any hit up by anybody?
I guess that's what. Yeah, I've I've gotten a few
a few alumni that it says about you know, said

(11:28):
some some congress about the iron ball and then the
same thing about um. You know, you know this means
you know, this means a lot for for us you know,
all of our alumni, all ex players everything, so um
you know, obviously again SEC championship is always a goal
for us, so people you know, um, you know, having
anything to say about that and wishing luck and everything,

(11:50):
so um you know again it's I'm lucky to be
a part of the program I am that has you know,
players an alumni they care enough to to you know,
to reach out and say stuff like they do. So um,
I'm just happy to be a part of it. Do
you relish being the underdog more than being the favorite?
Do you do you like, you know, having that underdog
chip on your shoulder going into a game? Do you
think about that? I mean for for for me again,

(12:13):
that's kind of something that you can't really control. It's
not like, you know, you can't control whether what you know,
people expect from you as a team, what whatever odds
are whatever. Spreading is like that stuff you can't control.
So for me, whatever it is, it it doesn't really
it doesn't really um you know, affect me. It's not
something I think about. It's just kind of falls into

(12:34):
that external factor category. So um, you know, we just
we just focus on and try to maximize what we
can control. Yeah, But it's funny. I heard you say
external factors the other day, and I think I said
it twice on the show today. I think was just
from listening you. I've never used that term before in
my life until earlier today. But you know, Bryce, when
when you're a little kid throwing the ball around and
running around, I know you played multiple sports, you know,

(12:55):
I know you've gotta be confident to be able to
get as far as you've gotten. You've got to, you know,
have the ability to believe in yourself and your teammates
and understand how to play as a team. But if
you could talk to that little boy throwing the ball
to to Craig in the front yard back back in
the day and say, hey, you're gonna be playing quarterback
in that as you C championship game against Georgia and Alabama,
you know what, what advice would you give? What advice
would you give yourself? Just keep doing what you're doing,

(13:17):
don't change anything? Is that it? You know? That's funny?
You know, I I feel like I kind of have that,
Like I thought a lot of like, oh if I
could go back and change something, or I can go
back and tell myself something like what would it be like, Oh,
would I want to change? I want to do differently
and like as weird as it sounds, um like, I

(13:38):
don't feel like I would ever want to change anything
or tell myself something or try to steer myself to
something like you know, obviously I wish there was like,
you know, certain things I know now in certain wisdom,
so that I could like give a younger um me.
But um, at the same time, I feel like, like
you know, in some hypothetical like crazy universe, I could, Um,
I wouldn't, just because I feel like everything happens in

(14:00):
God's timing and everything happens for a reason. So I
feel like, um, it's funny, it's something that kind of
like runs through my head sometimes like uh, something I
think about, but like I feel like, you know, everything
happens for a reason, everything happens in God's timing, So
like I wouldn't even change, um, you know, definitely not
what I think now or what I thought in the

(14:22):
past was you know, always right or always always best.
But I think you know the timing and I'm learning it.
You know, That's that's not something I want to change. Yeah, well,
i'd go back and tell my twelve year old self
it's a two hand break on that bike they got
you for Christmas, not a one hand break. So that's
that's what I go back and tell myself. But you know,
bryance to what has been coached statements, you know, like

(14:43):
message you guys this week? Has it? I know, I'm
sure the message there's like a new message each week.
But going into this game as it has it been,
you know, we just gotta do what we gotta do.
Has it been any you know, kind of thing that
that he's brought to the forefront that he wanted you
guys to know. Yeah, you know, it's it's you know,
just understanding the moment, understand what it is. And then
again us just just trying good us to be the best,

(15:04):
you know, the best us during the week, the best
week of preparation, you know, for us to um, you know,
to push ourselves during the weekend. Um, you know, make
sure that you know we can be the best that
we can be. And um, you know, obviously you know
it's it's on us again to prepare and and to
put ourselves in the best situation throughout the week, um,
to try to accomplass our goals. So um, you know,

(15:25):
obviously coach saban Is has done a great job and
you know, and showing us with that that knowledge and
understanding of what's it's taken, you know what it's gonna take.
So I think we all kind of get that message.
And it's on us to push ourselves during the weekend. Um,
do all we can to give ourselves the best opportunity
on Saturday. Definitely. Man, well, Bryance, I appreciate it. Man,
Good luck to you this weekend. Is there anything you

(15:45):
el You've got anything for the Alabama fans out there
about this weekend in Atlanta? I mean I'm at the
studio at the Hall of Fame right there. Next I'm
gonna see all of them there. You can come through
if you want as well. Um, just for all the
other fans of of of the university, is just super
grateful for for you guys, just support um. You know,
it really doesn't mean a lot to me, it means
a lot to all of us. So, um, we're all
super grateful. In rule time. Yeah, and and tell Jamo

(16:08):
if he's gonna get a targeting, the first half was
a great time to get one, because you know, I
got to set out the first half of the second game. Yeah, yeah,
it's amazing how many players don't know that rule. The
first thing they think is, oh, I got targeting. I'm
out for the next game. Somebody tells them, now it's
the first half. You're good as well. Take a deep breath.
But all right, Bryce, I appreciate it, buddy. Everybody make
sure you subscribe to the Volume YouTube channel. It's great stuff, Bryce,

(16:31):
and then got a big one this week. Enjoy chopping
it up as usual. We'll see you again soon. Talk later.
