Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Tutor Dixon Podcast. I'm excited to have
Senator Marsha Blackburn back with us today. And obviously you
all have heard about what happened last week or two
saturdays ago now with President Donald Trump at his rally
and the attempted assassination, the assassination attempt, and Senator Blackburn
(00:22):
was recently at the RNC convention and Senator, we saw
you kind of talking to the head of Secret Service
there and asking questions. So I just want to get
your take on everything that happened and from your perspective,
what should we be concerned about. I know there's a
lot of rumors going around, but we wanted to hear
it from you.
Speaker 2 (00:39):
Yes, and you know the fact that there are so
many rumors is why we actually approached the Secret Service
director while she was there at a convention. We had
had a phone call. It was not satisfying. We did
not get answers. That cut the queue off. Many of
us were in the queue, and we need to get
(01:01):
some specifics. The American people deserve answers, and you know, Tudor,
they identified a suspicious person an hour before the shooting
happened at five point fifty one, they identified him as
a potential threat. Five point fifty three, the sharpshooters are alerted.
(01:23):
But at six o'clock they cleared President Donald Trump to
go on stage. Now, why did they do that. Their
one job is to protect the protectee, to be certain
that that person is not in harm's way, and we
wanted answers for that. Why were there no drones that
(01:45):
were surveilling the crowd. What was the extent to which
they were working with local partners. How could they have
a rooftop one hundred and fifty yards from the president
that was not being covered. These are all questions that
(02:06):
need to be answered. But when we approached her, she
didn't have time for us. She was in a luxury suite.
She was having a reception for her partners that were
there in Milwaukee, and she felt like it was not
the time and place. But when you've had an assassination
(02:27):
attempt on a former president, it is indeed the time
and place to give answers for the American people.
Speaker 1 (02:37):
Well, and we've lost an American citizen. We had as
and soone killed, we had two people put in the hospital,
and the former president was nearly killed. I mean so close,
and I think for a lot of people it's the
first time we're hearing this that they marked him as
a suspicious person an hour ahead of time. What is
the normal protocol for that?
Speaker 2 (02:58):
Do you know have been the individuals should have been detained,
The individuals should have been questioned, the backpack search, the
range finder taken. There are things that should have been done,
And one of the questions is what are those protocols?
Who was doing the screening? How were they doing the screening?
(03:21):
You had thousands of Americans that were there, as you said,
two injuries, and the competour family has lost their dad.
He was shielding his wife and daughters and he lost
his life. And how traumatic that is. And there do
need to be answers to this, you know, Tutor, we
(03:44):
all train our children, and we've all said many times,
if you see something, say something, And in this case
you have people who were seeing things and saying things
and alerting police. But still it appeared nothing was being
done in the appropriate time frame, and the shooter was
(04:07):
able to get that shot off.
Speaker 1 (04:09):
There's so many questions because people say that they, like
you said, they were already calling it out. And then
there's a rumor, and I wanted to see if you
knew anything about this. There's a rumor that the sharpshooter
said he had the shot and he was told to
hold Do you know if that was true.
Speaker 2 (04:23):
I do not know if that was true. This is
one of the reasons the Secret Service Director must give details.
She has to give these answers. We know she was
not running that ground operation that day, but it was
some of her team that was running that ground operation.
(04:45):
We need to know what the advanced planning was, what
the operations plan was, because we have millions of Americans
who want to support their candidates, whether they're Democrat or Republican.
They want to able to take their children to events
and say, this is what a participatory democracy looks like,
(05:10):
and we're going to get out here. Our nation has
been so well served by robust, respectful bipartisan debate, and
we should return to that. But Tutor, if you don't
know you're going to have your family and loved ones
in a safe environment, then you're going to step away
(05:31):
and you're not going to be that participant. And we
want to make certain that the protectees are safe and
that everyone who attends events will be safe.
Speaker 1 (05:44):
Stick around for more of my interview with Senator Marsha Blackburn,
But first I want to take a moment to tell
you about my partners at bond Arms. Everyone knows I'm
a firm believer in our God given Second Amendment rights,
and while we hope and pray the November election restores
everyday American values, now is the time for you to
purchase a firearm to protect yourself, your home, and your
(06:06):
loved ones. I'm here to tell you about an amazing

seventy seven dollars and you'll get a sense of relief

find out how you can get up to fifty dollars
(06:50):
rebate with your new bond arms this month and tell
them I sent you get bondarms dot com and more
with Senator Marsha Blackburn after this, Well, the problem with
us not getting these answers is that we are looking
at the next rally exactly what you're saying, how do
(07:10):
we know that it's safe? And then all of these
rumors are coming out on social media and people are saying,
like I said, though the shooter was told to hold,
you know, the guy went through the mags, he didn't
go through the mags. No one knows what exactly happened,
so nobody knows whether or not they're safe at the
next one. But also I think that when you lose
an American citizen, there is a duty for this the
(07:33):
Secret Service chief, this woman to come out and give
us a deep brief to go through this is what
happened during the day. And I understand that there are
people who will say, well, there are certain things that
the Secret Service can't tell you. Fine, but still we
want to know did this Did they know this guy
ahead of time? Was there any concern about him? When
they had concern? Why was their concern about him. Did
(07:54):
he go through the mags? Did he? Was he some
a ticketed person? But why can't we we know those details?
Speaker 2 (08:02):
And we should We as Americans are people of orderly process.
We like to know what the process is and we
like to know that people are following that process. And
when you have an instance like this and there is
not an explanation and it does not seem that there
(08:26):
was a specific protocol, and you have all of these
rumors that are circulating, then you do have a duty
of the director. I will tell you, tutor, I think
she should have been out on Saturday night saying this
(08:46):
is what we know, this is what happened, this is
what we're looking at, and as we are able to
give you more information, we will give you more information.
Didn't do that with the American people. She didn't do it.
On the phone call we had had with her Wednesday
(09:07):
afternoon with the senators with her, there were so many
of us that had those questions, and we were seeking
answers on behalf of the people that we represent.
Speaker 1 (09:21):
Did she give you anything when you spoken to him? No?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
And we were really we had such a list of questions.
That was the whole reason when we found out she
was in the building. It was the reason for going
to her and saying can you make a few minutes
for us, and for her to say it wasn't the
time or place. We offered to step somewhere quiet so
(09:48):
we could visit with her. She did not want to
do that. She was in the middle of an event.
She did not want to leave that event.
Speaker 1 (09:56):
And this was almost a celebratory event, which seems shocking
considering there had just been a major failure in her department.
Like I mean, I honestly can't think of anything more
significant than what happened on Saturday. And I just wonder,
from your perspective, if this were the other side, if
it had been a Joe Biden rally, would we be
(10:17):
getting daily or every other day updates, because it just
seems like the media hasn't been demanding it. There's been
like a blackout on this. It happened, and then it's
almost as if the world has been like, yeah, that happened,
Now we move on, which I cannot imagine a time
in my life when an assassination attempt on a presidential
(10:40):
candidate would happen and the news just moves on.
Speaker 2 (10:43):
To us, it seems inconceivable, and many of us were
watching the rally on and off and then you glance away,
you look back at the screen, and you're saying, what
is happening? And so many Americans saw this in real time,
and Judo, I think that's one of the reasons that
(11:05):
people have reached out about this effort from so many
people Democrats, Republicans, independents, people that are supporting RFK, people
that are supporting Biden. But they're saying, how could this happen?
And it was there on TV, so people were watching
it well.
Speaker 1 (11:26):
And I think it's also allowed this narrative to continue.
I mean, there's so many stories about this, but I've
seen so many people on the left come out and
say this was staged. He just he conveniently just got
shot in the ear. They're all saying this. This is
why to me, in this political environment especially, it should
absolutely be demanded of her to come out and say,
(11:49):
these are the facts. We know the president was shot
because you can say, oh, no, it whiz by. No,
he was shot and it happened to go through his ear.
Very lucky it did not go a few centimeters over,
but we lost someone in the crowd. I mean, I
just it is inconceivable to me that she is not
being held accountable and that these rumors. I really I
(12:13):
don't like to be conspiracy theorists, but I really believe
the reason it's not being pushed right now is because
Democrats are in such bad shape in this election. They
would rather allow conspiracy theories of staging this event than
to actually come out and say, yes, the government screwed up.
Speaker 2 (12:31):
The Secret Service in FBI have tagged this as an
assassination attempt, and I think that that is important for
everyone to realize. That is the term that they used
right off the top when we had our phone briefing
the other day.
Speaker 1 (12:51):
Good good. That is important. They need to be telling
the American people that in the news, needs to be
telling the American people that. I mean, we've had We've
seen some of these people, even on MSNBC say well,
it doesn't seem like that's really what happened. It just
shocks me. So the Secret Service director Kimberly Cheadles, she
is set to testify on Monday about this, well today
(13:14):
about this. Do you believe that she will be out
and testifying on this?
Speaker 2 (13:18):
It is important that she testify. The House has issued
a subpoena for her at Senate Judiciary. The Republicans sent
a letter last Monday, and Durban has agreed to have
a hearing on this. You don't want Democrat, Republican, anyone,
(13:39):
any protectee to be put in a vulnerable situation. And
the Secret Service has one job one and it is
to protect that protectee, to be sure that they are
not exposed.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
Today it sounds like the Secretary of Homelands Kreity Secretary
Mayorcus is attempting to block the testimony from Director Cheetle.
What does that say? I mean, why would you do
that if you were him?
Speaker 2 (14:10):
I if id no good reason for doing that. The
American people will be well served to get some direct
answers and for the Secretary to try to block that
if ded is is completely inappropriate, you know it is.
And it kind of plays tutor into this mindset when
(14:33):
you think about Director Cheetle. On Wednesday evening told us
it was not the time and place to answer questions
because she was having a reception for their partners. See,
they're more concerned about those elites, the donor class, the
(14:54):
people that work with them in the executive branch, and
much less concerned about the people's chambers, the House and
the Senate, people that represent the people who are actually
paying her paycheck.
Speaker 1 (15:13):
Well, and I think for people who are listening, this
is when you hear folks refer to the swamp in Washington,
d C. And the unelected bureaucrats that are running things.
These are people that are not elected, They are appointed
to these positions. And here you have her refusing to
answer to the people, whereas I mean, you imagine you
can't do that, you don't get that choice.
Speaker 2 (15:33):
No, we are in every county in Tennessee each year
and we have county meetings, so all across this state.
We are out and about every week. We do a newsletter,
We do a lot of media. We are on social media.
(15:55):
We make the effort to be certain that people here
from us, that they know how we're spending our time,
and that we're accountable to them for the votes we take.
Speaker 1 (16:07):
I just want to ask you before I let you go,
what you think about how this has changed the feeling
in the country. I mean, anytime there's a tragedy like this,
there's really a change in the atmosphere and sadly, I
think that we desperately need a change in the atmosphere
in the rhetoric right now, the rhetoric in the media,
(16:29):
the rhetoric on social media. It has become very, very
damaging to the country. Constantly talking about threats of things
that are not threats, Constantly talking about the fact that
the country could fall. The country is not going to fall,
the sky is falling. Messages that are coming out needed
to stop. Do you think that there's going to be
(16:49):
a change in the next few months.
Speaker 2 (16:51):
My hope is that there will be. I thought President
Trump's speech as he wrapped up the RNC pitch perfect.
He laid out he paid tribute to those that were
injured and lost their life in Pennsylvania. He spoke about
(17:12):
the assassination attempt, and then he moved to his vision
for the future and for the country. And very appropriate
that he lay that out and that he talked directly
to the American people. I think it was very well done.
(17:34):
His tone was right and tutor so significant that is
he transitioned in his speech to talking about the future.
He extended to the American people a hand of loyalty
and friendship.
Speaker 1 (17:52):
Yeah, I think that's the message for sure. Right now.
Everybody wants to bring back love and community, and that
is what I heard from both President Trump and Senator
Vance out there. I thought it was fantastic. I thought
it was a very high energy but emotional event. I
think people really needed to come together. Stick around for
(18:13):
more of my interview with Senator Marsha Blackburn, but first
I want to take a moment to tell you about
my partners at IFCJ. Since the start of the Swords
of Iron war in Israel on October seventh, we've seen
death and destruction in the Holy Land, but for more
than forty years, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews
has been on the ground in Israel, and they were
there within hours of the war starting, and every day
(18:35):
since they've been feeding the hungry and protecting the vulnerable.
But the attacks continue in the north and south in Israel.
The folks there are resilient. There are resilient survivors who
bravely share their stories. In a new series IFCJ calls
Faces of Iron survivors like Noah. On October seventh, Noah
and her friend were escaping in music festival that was
(18:56):
being attacked as they were driving, rockets were falling, and
terrorists were shooting. Noah's friend was shot in the leg
while many others were murdered. They ran to a large
bush and hid inside of it for eight hours. Christians
like you support Israel through the International Fellowship of Christians
and Jews, and it's that support that helps these survivors
(19:17):
remain steadfast and strong. To hear more stories like Noah's
and show your support for Israel, Visit SUPPORTIFCJ dot org
again that support IFCJ dot org, and stay tuned. We'll
be back with Senator Blackburn after this. I'm assuming this
is not your first convention, so just give us an overview. Yeah,
(19:42):
how did it compare?
Speaker 2 (19:43):
This was by far the most united, energetic convention that
I think I've ever seen. It was really quite amazing,
and we enjoyed being there. My husband and my son
were both there, and and how wonderful to meet so
many people from around the country who love this country,
(20:07):
that want the best for their families and their neighbors
and their friends and their communities, and really want to
make their community, their state, their country great again.
Speaker 1 (20:21):
I mean, in the middle of that speech, when he
started talking about Corey, who is the man who lost
his life in Butler, Pennsylvania, sitting there. I was standing
on the floor, and he mentioned and me talked about him.
He talked about his uniform being right there, and you
heard the crowd suddenly Corey Corey, Corey Corey. And it
(20:42):
was like this moment where you could just feel the
country and the Republicans that in that room. It really
isn't about a person. And we hear so many times
this is a cult, this is about one person, It's
about America. It was so clear in that moment this
has nothing to do with one person. This is everybody.
Speaker 2 (21:02):
That's right, very true.
Speaker 1 (21:05):
It feels like a very united party right now. Really quick,
before I let you go, I mean I have to say.
We're recording this on Friday afternoon. It will air on Monday,
so anything could happen over the weekend. Do you have
any feelings on what will happen with the Democrats?
Speaker 2 (21:22):
You know what, we are going to let the Democrats
short their mess out. They've got a mess, We're gonna
leave it with them.
Speaker 1 (21:30):
It's so funny because my grandmother was from the South
and your accent is very similar to hers, and that
is exactly what she would say when I was a
kid growing up. We'll just let that mess sort itself out,
and I just think that that is incredibly wise words
from an incredibly wise woman. Senator Marsha Blackburn, thank you
