Schefter will join us coming up next hour and Pierre
McGuire the NHL on NBC. Because we had some drama
last night the Rangers and Capitals. It felt like old

(00:43):
school hockey last night. Rangers started the brawl right after
the puck drop following a controversial game between the two
teams on Monday night, Washington's Tom Wilson punched a Rangers
player in the back when his face was on the ice,
threw another player down, causing a season ending injury. New
York was upset that Wilson just got fined, he didn't

(01:04):
get suspended, and they didn't hesitate to take it out
on the Caps last night, Although The Caps ended up
winning the game four two t j Oshe had a
hat trick there. Wilson comes on the ice. The Rangers
Brendan Smith came right after him. All in all, there
were six fights in four plus minutes of action, over

(01:24):
one hundred minutes of penalty time assessed in the first period,
and whether it's a proud moment or not, the incident
probably got the NHL a lot more attention than it's
had in a long time. And you know, some things
don't change. Hockey players always police themselves. They've always prided
themselves that they will police themselves in some way, and
no matter what the league's stance is, fans will find

(01:47):
it entertaining. Kind of throwback last night, but still something
that we're going to always associate with the sport. I
was watching, but not watching. I was at a restaurant
and all of a sudden, I hear the ball are
erupt like and somebody yells out, let's play the feud.
And I thought they were playing a game at the bar,

(02:08):
and I didn't know what it was. I look up
and I just see all of this equipment on the
ice and the game had just started. You know, this
was a movie. This is slapshot, but you're watching. And
the tip off was that you had the fourth line,
I believe for fourth for both teams they start the game.

(02:30):
So when you have the fourth line out there, chances
are somebody's up to no good. They knew that they
were going to start right away. Let's get it over with.
And then Tom Wilson comes in a little while later,
and then all of a sudden, you know, that's who
they were waiting for. Got that out of the way.
They played a game and the Rangers ended up losing

(02:51):
four two. And you you're always going to have a
faction of hockey fans. They want this, they this, uh,
Nascar fans they love the Rex, they love the excitement.
They love you know, when you're banging around, you know,
Robin Brason exchanging paint. But uh, you know you saw

(03:14):
that last night, that feeling of wow, this is this
is how it used to be. That everybody had to
have their enforce you there, and you know the sport.
And my only criticism was sometimes it was hard for
the great players to be great because you were allowing
players who had limited ability that they were able to
control a little bit more of the game itself that

(03:35):
you wanted to see great players be great, and you
couldn't always see that. And I think you know, hockey
has tried to move away from that the NHL, and
so you can watch a game and go, I know
why that guy's great. You know this, The NBA has
done this. You can go back to the NBA. You know,
back in the when Mike for Tello was with the

(03:55):
Cavs and pat Riley was with the Knicks, and it
was a really really physical NBA back then where if
you scored a hundred points you were gonna win. It
wasn't good basketball. And now we may be to the
point of there's too much freedom, free flowing, can't put
your hands on anybody, but everybody wants more offense. You
want action. You want people to be able to watch

(04:17):
and go, wow, that was exciting. But there still is
that element of somebody comes into town, there's an old
grudge to settle, and they're gonna throw down. And you
saw that last night with Tom Wilson. You know, hockey's
the one that should be taking the brunt of this
the NHL, because if you suspend Tom Wilson, you don't
have last night plain and simple. The broadcasters said it

(04:41):
as well. If you suspend him, and look, you know
he's a serial enforcer here, like he's got a pretty
good rap sheet here that boy. If you suspended him,
people aren't gonna go, wow, that's surprising. You need Tom Wilson,
You want Tom Wilson. You don't want to face Tom Wilson.

(05:03):
That's susy what it comes down to. There are certain
players on certain teams where you go, that's just their job.
And you saw that last night. Now what happens to
the Rangers. You know they're not going to make the playoffs.
It's been a wild week if you think about New
York sports. The Knicks are playing well, you had the
Astros in town with the Yankees, you had this going on.

(05:25):
The Mets are a mess right now, and you got
the Brooklyn Nets. The Nets are always interesting whether they
win or not. The Jets got a great quarterback here.
Nothing for the Giants. Nothing for the Giants. But that's
about it. Eight seven seven three d P Show email

DP show. And I wasn't watching the Rangers Caps game
close enough to know that that was the fourth line.
I wouldn't have known that that was the fourth line.
But when you realize that, then you know both teams
were aware. I wanted to go back and watch the
priest skate and just see if there's anything that goes
on there, anybody says anything, because usually you know, if

(06:09):
I'm going, I'm going right then, like, I'm not even waiting.
But who sends the fourth line out? Do both coaches
both are saying, Hey, we know what you're doing, you
know what we're doing, let's go. And that's the feeling
I had last night is both of these both of
these coaches knew what was happening. Yes, Todd with your

(06:32):
Rangers sweater on today, do you discuss who's fighting who
ahead of time? During that preest skate? You know, the
captain's meet at center, It's like, okay, you got this one.
He's gonna be grabbing that one. This one's gonna be
punching that guy in the face. Just be ready as
soon as the puck drops, that's who's gonna get who.
I think you match up with the guy you're right
next to. Yeah, but you can mix it up a
little bit. What if your guy you're right next to
is someone that's gonna just absolutely destroy you. The Rangers

(06:55):
eighty five penalty minutes in the game last night, the
most by any team since twenty sixteen, when Vancouver had
ninety six penalty minutes. Para McGuire joined us a little
bit later on. He was there at the garden last
night for the festivities. McLevin. Do you have a poll
question for me? Yeah, we're debating should the NHL have

(07:16):
more fighting, less fighting, or whatever the current state of
fighting is. It seems like they've decreased it a little bit.
This side of the glass is all for bring it on,
oh at least, oh maybe not all of this side
of the glass. I want to see that. I want
to see the best players be able to display their
talents and so do. I like that somebody is there

(07:39):
as an enforcer. If you look, Wayne Gretzky needed Dave Simenko, No,
they called him cement head like he was. He was
there in case somebody went after Gretzky then I got
to hurt you. That's interesting that you police the sport
that way, and I like that you're able to police

(08:01):
the sport that way. Hockey players, hockey fans know like
this is going to happen. And I do like that.
I just don't like when it's just there's seven seven
different fights out on the ice. If you want to
go one on one with somebody, you got something to settle.
You're protecting your star. I get it. I mean it's
a physical sport, like you can't help but run into somebody.

(08:25):
But when you and you know hockey players, they know
when you're doing something. What Wilson did was wrong on
Monday night. I give you fight, you fight, because you
see these guys when they get ready to square off,
they take time, like I'll give you time to take
off your gloves. Oh you're gonna roll up your sleeve,
I'll roll up my all right, we ready to go,

(08:46):
and here we go and the waltz and I'm gonna
grab you and then you grab me and let's dance
like that's what happens. There is an etiquette to that,
not hey, somebody's down on the ice down, I'm gonna
grab your hair or I'm going to punch you into
the ice. And Tom Wilson did that on Monday night

(09:07):
and then here's the fallout. Yes, Tohn, I also like
the etiquette of like it's just between those two guys.
It's like not bench clearing brawls or basketball. I know,
they're not allowed to leave the bench where everyone can
just jump in and get on top of each other.
When these two guys are fighting, everyone's just kind of
either you're fighting someone else who's just kind of watching,
just like the ref is watching until someone hits the ice.
Three guys aren't gang up on one. They respect the

(09:28):
fact that let it just be a one on one combat.
This program, Thank You, Ton brought to you by Mercedes
Spends Vans. They go far beyond from their customization options,
cutting edge tech, five star sales service, financial support crew,
Mercedes Spens Vans build equipped engineer to be ready for anything,
go the extra mile, taking the onboard first step into
an authorized dealership today. Yes, Paulie, it is fascinating though too.

(09:49):
Like you said, the etiquette, it's every sport has things
that are across the line. Like in a football you
could fight, you could hit, but then you go for
some guy's knees and that's now you're messing with his career,
or you spit in his face, and that's that's not
what they play with. You see, these hockey guys, they
they're okay with violence. They sign up for the violence.
They don't sign up for the above and beyond. All Right,

(10:12):
mclub and what else do you have? Okay, I have
a baseball question that we could save, but I really
want an answer. Okay, John means through the first individual
no hitter for the Orioles since Jim Palmer in nineteen
sixty nine. The Orioles did have a combined no hitter
against the A's in nineteen ninety one. You're no hitter

(10:33):
question here? Okay, it was not a perfect game because
there was a third strike pass ball and the runner
went to first base. Yeah. I still don't understand this rule,
and I've been watching it my entire life. I guess
I read last night that it's like the infield fly
rule that you can't the catcher otherwise could initiate a
double play. I don't understand how he could do that.
I don't know why the rule exists, and I was

(10:54):
looking at other rules that I also do not know
why they're there and what they mean. I don't know
if I want to do a deep dive on a
pass ball today, but it's did it funny that baseball
has these traditions, and now there's these extra inning rules
that people do not know. I know Tony Luisa didn't know.
I've read it three times. I do not understand how
the runner on second base works at extra innings. Yeah,

(11:15):
but Tony Larusa is paid to know these rules. But
it's did it funny that there's a major American sport
that people do not know the rules? Well, we didn't
know if it was just these were the pandemic rules
or once the pandemic was over, then we were going
to go back to normal with baseball. But there's no
excuse for Tony Larusa to not know what you're allowed

(11:36):
to do not allowed to do in extra innings, but
with you know the player on second base and you
don't have to put your pitcher on second base as
the runner. And Tony didn't know, didn't know the rule,
admitted afterwards he did not know the rule. Age seven

Let's see anything else. Urban Meyer cleans house with his
scouting department, But I believe that as because their contracts
were over after the draft. Although that's pretty tough. You know,
when you come in and somebody's been there for twenty
four days. Because Trevor Lawrence took a tour of the

(12:21):
facility a couple of days ago and introduced himself to everybody. Hi,
what's your name? How long have you worked here? Then
all of a sudden, Urban Meyer comes in taking a
tour of the facility. You're gone, You're gone, You're gone.
You've had some scouts that have been there for a
long time. This isn't out of the ordinary it I
think people thought, if you read the headline, it's like, gosh,

(12:44):
I thought the Jags had a good draft. Those guys
got fired there, but they fired I think three scouts
there with the Jags. Mare Rodgers stories leaking out. We
talked about this yesterday that you're going to hear more
now because it's almost like open season to be able
to talk about what you're hearing. Could be rumor, could

(13:06):
be in nuendo, could be I'm hearing from somebody close
to Rogers, I'm hearing from Rogers himself. Former teammates have
talked about that. But the next step for the Packers
is what the next step for Aaron Rodgers is what Okay,
you're unhappy. Now what do you do the packers? Okay?

(13:26):
Can you keep him? Can you bring him back in?
Is it, you know, irreparable? What's next? That's where we'll
have Adam Schefter who will join us coming up. Any
other poll questions you're thinking about, Yeah, Paul, he just
shared a great one. I'll let him. It's a great question. Okay.
We always think you could, like, what would you deal
with if you got into a real match, a real game,

(13:48):
Which would you want the least? And you have to
pick one? You got to do one of them? Okay,
a fight with an NHL enforcer, right, get hit in
the ribs by MLB pitcher, stand the box and you
get like eighty eight in the ribs, get hit on
a crackback block by an NFL lineman, or take a
charge from Zion Williamson or Shaquille O'Neal the one I

(14:10):
want the least or the one you'd be okay with.
I guess you're you got to pick both, the one
you don't want, the one you would be all right,
I have to take one. What is it? I'll take
the charge from Zion as long as I can initiate
taking the charge from Zion. You have to be totally
squared up taking But I know that he's gonna hit
me because you can actually you can deaden or lessen

(14:34):
what that impact is going to be. It's not going
to be pleasant. I don't want to crackback block. I
don't want to get hit in the ribs. No, I
don't want to fight an enforcer either. The one I
want the least is I don't want to get in
a fight with an NHL enforcer. It's gonna be over
real quick. I mean like two seconds. Yeah, but I

(14:54):
get knocked out, Yes, yeah, but I don't want to
get knocked out. You feel nothing, Oh I will when
I wake up, I will. I'm gonna guess that hurts,
you know when he hits me. Yes, you cover your
face and just go down, and then the ref breaks
it up and then you get out of there. Say
so you don't lose teeth or get a black eye
or anything. You know, he may get one punch into
your stomach, but that's not so terrible. I've gotten hit

(15:16):
by a baseball before a few times, not in the ribs,
but in the back, and that hurts. The ribs would
really hurt crackback block. That's where you see those guys
who are doing their best to try to track down
a wide receiver or you know it's somebody on an interception,
and then you just get plastered. And that's always the

(15:39):
highlight that's played too. If I get hit in the ribs,
that doesn't make sports center. I take a charge from Zion.
That mite. If I'm in a fight with an enforcer,
depending on how it ends, that's probably on a sports
center as well. Yes, mclovin. So Bryce Harper got hit
in the face the other day by a ninety seven
mile an hour fast ball, I would have left the cleets.

(16:00):
I would have walked off the field the cleets. As
a kid, I quit baseball because it was so scary. Yeah,
well that's why Paul he said in the ribs, like
if you say yeah, if you said in the back, like,
I'll take it in the back, Like if you say
ninety in the back, okay, Oh, I'll take it. I'll
take it. Um. Yeah, I don't want to get punched

(16:21):
in the face that crackback block. Man, those guys just
get plastered the Zion charge, Like, I'm okay with that.
What if he puts all to ninety into Well, if
he does that, then I mean I might as well
do every one of these other ones. You know what
does II in charge means you have to play defense?
Dan though, so that people should take you out of that?

(16:43):
I mean, fair right, you know what, I used to
be good at taking charges. It doesn't mean that. It
didn't mean I played defense, but I I like that
element of acting, like there was a little bit more
of a I got away with something here. Yeah. See,
that was like if you couldn't block shots, either stealing
the ball or taking a charge or top defensive plays

(17:05):
you could make if you were undersized. Yeah. Yeah, there
was hustle involved in it. Yes, sacrifice in your body.
We actually played a game my freshman year in college.
We played a school called Transylvania University in Kentucky, Transylvania,
and I remember this guy was killing us. He must

(17:26):
have had upwards a thirty five maybe forty points and
he had four fouls and he just scored. And we
were coming down the floor and I stepped in front
of the guy and he got called for a charge.
So we foul this guy out on a totally bogus charge.
By me, I mean we lost the game, and as

(17:49):
my coach said, you know, maybe we could have done
that earlier, you know, get him out of the game, Like,
all right, but I gave my body up and this
guy was torching us there. You could have gotten a duke,
could have I was taking cheap charges before Shane Battier was.
You couldn't have got me into duke academically, No, that's

(18:09):
that's the problem. Yes, time, is that something you practice
in all? Seriously? Is that a skill? Like as far
as taking a charge so you don't bang the back
of your head on the court or something horrible like that,
As far as the act of falling down, how would
you practice that, just like falling backwards with your teammates
during prayer. I think it's something that you would need
to if just someone that does that often a chance
to take a charge, you run the risk of cracking

(18:30):
your head over I smashing the back of your head
into the court, which is as if not worse than
any Paula's other choice. I never practiced it, and I
never practice defense either, But I just know that there
are certain moments where somebody is not in control and
you can kind of get in their way. I hate
the call. I hate when guys do that, but I

(18:51):
absolutely tried to do that. Yeah, pol Christie, don't you
think that like in high school when they're scrimmaging, they
take charges once in a while and they get used
to doing it. It's not like the first charge they
evertook was in a game in an important situation like
let me try this thing. I've never done it before.
If that was my thing or my coach, that was
like like someone's the enforcer and hockey, I'm the one
that takes the charges a lot. For whatever reason. I
would want to make sure I would practice, you know,

(19:12):
falling down so I don't how do I fall so
I don't bang my head on too. But we could
go out during the commercial break and I can take
a charge. Yeah, I mean, I don't want anybody getting injured. No,
but I'll do it. I'll take a charge if zion
is you know, knocks you down as a good chance,
you're gonna fall all the way down. You're not gonna
just slide to the floor. You're gonna tell you to

(19:33):
fall down. You're gonna take the full breadth of that
where you may not have control your body as you're
falling and your head can hit something. Thank you, Todd,
You're welcome. You're afraid of everything. I do have a
lot of fears. Yeah, you do, like you have a
fear of going through the car wash, because then you
get you feel like you're you're trapped. I do sometimes
feel like that maybe I didn't close the doors the
windows completely and it's gonna get flood in and I'm

(19:55):
gonna drown inside my own car. All right. I took
my Mercedes this morning through the car wash, and as
I'm getting ready to go up through the automatic car wash,
the guy goes, hey, can you wait about three minutes?
I said, sure, I said, is there something wrong with
the you know? The car wash goes no, the person
who was in that car in front of you can't

(20:17):
have somebody behind them. They get really claustrophobic. And so
I waited three minute. I waited till that car left,
and then they were like, come on in, now, was
that you? It's very possible, but I would probably put
like a yeah, but you may be on board. Cat
on board. Let the prince what they do. Soft, you

(20:39):
need to get a license plate that you know, just
says soft. I do. I always picture, like, what is
the worst thing that could happen right now? Well, all right,
we'll take a break. I don't know what we accomplished
there in the last twenty minutes, but we did waste
twenty minutes there. Adam Schefter will join us in an

Phone calls always welcome. Settle on the poll question, what
are we going to go with mclovin? Yeah, which would
you least like to do? The choice is a hockey fight,
taking a charge from a big NBA player, crackback blocked

(22:07):
by a net off alignment. I guess hid in the head,
or was like get hit in the ribs by an
MLB pitcher. Now I just said something that I got
a lot of scoffs here. I'm not sure the hockey
fights are the worst because those guys are fully padded.
You only have one target as your head, and it's
not super easy to get full fights in a lot

(22:27):
of hockey fights end then just like, yeah, I know
those guys get hurt, but it's not like a basketball
fight where you're just naked and unprotected. Yeah, there's sometimes
where it looks like a high school dance where you're
just kind of going around and around, like you know
you're going the waltz. But when they do land, that's
when it's lights out. That's when it's ugly. Yeah, pulling,

(22:49):
I gotta disagree with mclove and this is I know
they're on skates and doesn't look like they have leverage,
but they have you by the jersey, they have you
by the chest. You can't run away, you can't dodge
the punches. Your head is just a sitting target in
a hockey guy. Yes, well I would take two. I mean,
like the real scary, some real scary stuff happens at
hockey when you're going fast, you're scary along and someone
trips yours on. Hockey is a terrifying sport in many ways,

(23:12):
but you're on the ice. I think the worst part
is when you don't see the guy from behind and
you're up against the boards and you get somebody who
you know takes their stick right across the you know,
the back of your neck or something. I think the
pitch is gonna win this poll. I think most people
can relate to that the most. Yeah, because most of
us have played baseball into a certain degree. You know

(23:33):
you got hit by a pitch, depending on how hard
you know. Somebody through that pitch. Yeah. See. See, the
thing about why the charge from Zion doesn't worry me
too much is because if you're taking the charge, you're
preparing yourself for it, so you know what's going to happen.
So you peel off a little early. Well, but he
sort of work with him and then get hit. But
if you know you're gonna get hit by a pitch,

(23:53):
I don't want that. I would rather not know I'm
gonna get hit by a pitch. I've I've been hit
by pitches. I've been punched many times in the face.
I've never been crackback blocked by an NFL lineman. And
I've taken the charge in a basketball game that the
charge doesn't bother me. Okay, I'm with you. I'm okay,
even if it's Zion taking you know, I'm taking the
charge on Yeah, McLevin. What if you changed the football

(24:14):
one to catching a pass over the middle and not
knowing where the safety is because there's like a little
bit unknown like we were talking about. And make it
the eighties not twenty one. Yeah, you can make it
twenty and thirty five where that plays illegal and I'm
still not doing You're gonna catch a ball over the
middle and Vontes Burf is waiting like Cam Chancellor juniors

(24:36):
out there. No thanks, Yeah, don't like that either. I
saw this with gil Brandt. Gil Brandt, hall of famer,
the front office exec with the Cowboys for many, many decades,
and he was grading the off season five best off
seasons in the NFL. Tampa Bay Buccaneers number one. That's

(24:57):
because they kept everybody, and I think they did well
in the d The Patriots a number two on that list.
The draft class and the additions that they had with
free agency, number three, Jacksonville. It helps when you get
Trevor Lawrence, but they also got some line help, you know.

(25:18):
I thought they did a pretty good job there. The Jets.
Jets are there as well, at number four and number
five according to gil Brandt. The New York Giants, Okay,
they got a couple of receivers. Se Quon Barclay's coming back,

(25:39):
but that doesn't really mean you did anything in the
off season. Leonard Williams is going to be there. They
reached an agreement with him. Dory Jackson defensive back. Top
five Giants. Any other additions in there. McLevin that I

(26:00):
fell in love with three teams last night. Any of
these teams, yes, one of those, Okay, uh yeah, I'll
just tell you the Jacksonville Jaguars. And this is why
it's not because of these additions, they have the easiest schedule.
They their division is a disaster right now because the
Texans are bad. They the Cults have some big risk

(26:22):
with Carson Wentz and who's the other team in there?
And the Titans lost a lot of players, so I
feel like they have a last place schedule. They have
Travis etn can be like a safety valve for Trevor Lawrence.
They got really good receivers Channault, DJ Chark. I feel
like this is like setting up pretty well and Urban
Meyers a psycho, which is good for them. Like all football,
is there a reason to be excited here? I could

(26:44):
totally be buying into the hype. Um no, I get it.
I mean everybody has hope now. Yeah, like you, I
can't wait to see Jamar Chase in Joe Burrow. But
that doesn't mean that they're gonna be a team that
gets seven wins eight wins. By the way, we also
have to get used to this. Nobody gets to go

(27:04):
eight and eight anymore. Yeah, like you're eight and nine,
nine and eight, seven and ten. We always talk about
eight and eight. If all goes well nine and seven.
That's not the case this year. Yes, but the big
difference is Joe Burrow and Jamar Taste could be great,
but they have to face the really good Browns team,
a really good Ravens team, and a possibly good Steelers team.
I feel like this AFC South is a nice chance

(27:26):
for somebody. I'm such a schedule guy. But two other
teams I fell in love with real quick. I watched
behind the scenes of JC Horne getting drafted by the Panthers.
He's gigantic, He's like the biggest quarterback. He looks like
Jalen Ramsey. He's going to be if he's like if
you have a shutdown corner. This is just a team
building like that. You could do so much with that.
Maybe this is a team I think we could all

(27:47):
get into a little bit, but you know, maybe a
year and I like Sam Darnold and then the other team.
I'm totally in love with the Chargers and I'm doing
you two years ago. Just looking at the talent level,
how could the Chargers not be great? And James coming back,
Joey Bosa healthy. They have so much tale they can't
stay healthy. I look, I fell victim to this a

(28:09):
couple of years ago. Be like, I'm taking the Chargers
this year. I thought the Chargers had the best talent,
the best starting talent of anybody, and it just never
played out that way. They'd always get an injured, injured player,
new coach. You know, maybe they did. They lost a
lot of close games. Maybe they regressed to the mean.
So those are my bandwagon. The other guy I watched

(28:31):
behind the scenes of Michael Parsons the Cowboys raft pick.
He's got a lot of personality. Person really funny, he's
really outspoken. Do you think like that he's that's a
great spot to be a star, right, Yeah. If you're
going to be a star, well even if you're good,
you become great because you're a cowboy. It's like, it
goes back to what I said about that defense. Oh

(28:52):
my god, look at the names I got on that defense. Well,
they were names because they were Cowboys. If those guys
played for other teams, you wouldn't be singling them out
like Layton vander ash It's a nice story. Sean Lane
nice story, always injured. If they played for another team,
you know, they played for Cincinnati, you would never bring
them up. It's just they play for Dallas, and because

(29:13):
of that, we inflate your value. Oh my god, he's
a Cowboy. Well the Cowboys haven't done anything in a
couple of decades, but they get more to There's no
team that gets more attention for doing less than the
Dallas Cowboys do in all of sports. Nobody, nobody comes
even close to it. But that's because it's such a
great fan base, big fan base, and you play the

(29:35):
hits in this business. When you do a rundown on
your show. What are you going to talk about today, Lebron,
maybe the Nets, the Lakers as a team, Cowboys now
it's Aaron Rodgers because and rightfully so that's a big deal.
Like those are your storylines that you're trying to incorporate

(29:57):
every day. That's how it works in this business. It did.
We did that at the Mothership. Like I remember when
Doug Gottlieb was leaving and I'd asked him, I said,
you know, were you guys told to always have I
think Tim Tebow's stories And he said, yes, we were
told to incorporate Tim Tebow into our shows, and you

(30:20):
know you didn't need to, but people loved Tim Tebow.
Like Tim Tebow going to the Jags, all right, that's
a legitimate story today. But Tim Tebow bat in two
thirty eight in minor league baseball, it's not a story.
But him maybe making the Jags is a tight end.
That's a legitimate story there. I also thought it was

(30:41):
interesting that the Saints Sean Payton. He was looking to
move up now, he was looking to move up to
take either the two top cornerbacks or a quarterback that
I think that he was monitoring Justin Fields. I think
he wanted Justin Fields. I don't know this, but he
might have seen Drew Brees in mac Jones. But like,

(31:04):
this is a very interesting transitional period for the Saints
because of Jamis Winston in Taysom Hill. Because if they
don't prove themselves this year, then the Saints are going
to be in the market for a quarterback. I don't
know if the Saints would call the Packers and say, hey,
what would it take to get Aaron. I mean, this

(31:25):
is a team ready to win now. Green Bay is
not going to trade him in the NFC, and you're
not going to trade him to a team that you
might see in the playoffs, assuming the Packers would make
the playoffs. Another thing that I thought of, with what
is going on with Aaron Rodgers, then the Packers aren't
the Packers at a point where this is what they

(31:46):
were expecting, that they were moving on from Aaron Rodgers.
You drafted Jordan Love, you didn't know he was going
to be MVP, but okay, he's the MVP. If he
wasn't the MVP, you could move on from Aaron Rodgers.
But okay, he's the MVP. You can still move on
from him. If you think we never saw Jordan Love play.

(32:09):
I saw two complete games and one was his last
or second last year, and then his you know, the
season where he didn't have any of his weapons, and
I thought he looked great, and I thought he looked
average in those two games. We don't know. We didn't
see him in the Big Ten. We didn't see him

(32:30):
in the ACC or the SEC, so we have no idea.
I think if we felt like justin Fields, you feel like, man,
that guy I could play right now, Well we saw
him play. Jordan Love, we didn't, and I think there
is the cloud of mystery here, suspense like I don't know.
They only have one quarterback on the roster, Jordan Love

(32:51):
and Aaron Rodgers, but they're looking for other quarterbacks. Adam
Schefter talked about that as well. But what can you
for Aaron Rodgers? If he does it, he's never going
to be happy there. Then you just have to move
on at some point. Okay, he wants the GM fired,
he wanted a wide receiver kept. You know, he should

(33:13):
have gotten a heads up drafting Jordan Love. I get
all of those things. But if you're the Packers, you're
running a business here. You can't let one guy control it.
And as unpopular uncomfortable as that may feel, that's where
you have to look at what is best for this
organization right now. You're not firing your GM, by the way,

(33:33):
You're gonna fire your GM because he didn't give you
a heads up. How about the CEO, Mark Murphy. Mark
Murphy didn't call and give you a heads up? Do
you want him fired as well? I'm guessing he has
your number. But you're gonna fire the GM, and all
of a sudden everything goes away, And I'll go back
to what I said yesterday late in the show, what
if Rogers scores a touchdown against Tampa Bay? What if

(33:57):
they go to the Super Bowl? What if they win
the Super Bowl? Does he still have a problem with
Bryan Goudakunst. Does he still have a problem with Jordan Love?
Does he still have a problem that one of his
favorite receivers, Jake Kumerou was cut. I'm guessing, yeah, Paully,

(34:21):
you could go the other way. If Aaron Rodgers somehow
got a ring last year, he may be more emboldened.
You know that that's the lifetime hall fat passes. When
your MVP and a ring, he wouldn't be upset, obviously,
but maybe you know it could go the other way. Yeah,
But I mean, is it that close to him being
okay with Green Bay or not being okay? And is

(34:44):
it one person? Is that what this is all about?
One person? And the GM didn't call you one draft
day and that GM cut your buddy. Okay, I get
the Jordan Love. They should have given you a heads
If the Vikings gave Kirk Cousins a heads up on
draft Day that they may move up and draft a quarterback,

(35:06):
which they did, they should have done that Daron Rodgers.
But you know how close are we that Aaron would
be okay with staying and how far apart are we?
And I'll go back and the reason why, And I
give Chefty credit because I said yesterday, you know, Schefter
came on that Thursday night day wanted the draft and

(35:27):
said Aaron wants out. But he has also followed up
by saying on his podcast, you know this didn't come
from Aaron, and this didn't come from the Packers. Okay,
you're not going to tell me who it came from,
but why did it come out on the night of
the draft? That's what I want to know, because Chefty
and rightfully so, it's not going to tell me as sores,

(35:48):
But do you think that this didn't come from Aaron
Rodgers camp? Okay? I have a hard time believing that
would the Packers put this out? And the only way
is to say, hey, Aaron's petty. Everybody should know this.
You want to do that on draft night? I don't know.

(36:09):
That's why we're having Chef to on. We'll take a
break here. We got our play of the day phone

John Means's no hitter was the third of the season. Already,
I was curious, big name pictures, Hall of fame pitchers

(37:58):
who haven't thrown no hit and Roger Clements never did it,
Pedro Martinez never did it. Greg Maddox never did it.
Steve Carlton never did it. So those are some. I mean,
how many starts do you have with those pictures combined?

(38:20):
You know? Don Drysdale, Whitey Ford, Robin Roberts, Early Win,
Kurt Schilling, CC Sabathia. The best active picture without a
no hitter Zack Grenky. I guess, but yeah, pretty amazing.
You start to look at those who have no hitters,

(38:41):
and why is it? It's the guy that you probably
haven't heard too much about. Now does the does the
opposition not get geared up when you're you're facing somebody
like John Means. But if this was you know somebody, well,
I was gonna say the Orioles don't have not necessarily
a great pitching staff. But you know Max Scherzer or

(39:02):
Justin Verland, are you're going to be facing them, You're
probably gonna be a little bit more geared up. But
Maddox I understand not throwing a no hitter because he
you know, he allowed them the opposition put the ball
in play like he got you out. He was not
trying to strike you out. But Carlton, strikeout guy, Shielding,
strikeout guy, Clemens, strikeout guy. You know, those are the

(39:24):
guys that you you have no hitters. Yampo Means was
a couple of years ago. He actually made the All
Star team. In twenty nineteen, he was twelve and eleven.
He was second for Rookie of the Year. Even though
he's twenty six years old. He was second for Rookie
of the Year this year. He's four and oh and
I say young candidate, he's here, he's one point three seven.
But there's always names like I remember, there's a guy
for the Cardinals. Probably fifteen years Gonn named Bud Bud Smith.

(39:45):
I think it was his second month in the league.
He throws a no hitter. I have no idea if
he played ten more games or two more years, or
it happens sometimes in the majors. Remember Mike Weir from Canada,
he won a major, Yeah, won the Manisters. I have
no idea. He's still playing. Yeah, he's playing on the
Champions Tour and playing well. But then he never followed up.

(40:06):
It's like a moment and then you go, he won,
like two last week or two weeks ago, he beat
John Daly in a Champions Champions event. But yeah, you're right,
you get that one moment. And sometimes this happens in
golf with majors, where you go, Danny Willett has won
the Masters, and you go and we'll never hear from

(40:28):
Danny Willett again. Probably who was the guy who won
in Minnesota? Rich Beam? Rich Beam won the PGA Championship.
Little guy. He used to be on the show all
the time. Yeah, we had. He was part of the
book what is it not, Blood, Sweat and Beers. But

(40:49):
it was something something that there was a book that
was based on Alan Schipnut wrote it and it was
about rich Beam and his caddy. And for get what
the name of the book was, but it was. It
was really insightful. Yes, todd tea blood, sweat and tease. Um,
Fritzie just uh oh no, somebody else just sent me this.

(41:12):
Pedro threw a no hitter for nine innings against the Padres,
but the team hadn't scored either. He lost his no
hitter in the tenth or eleventh inning. Uh yeah, but
still no no hitter for Pedro. Yes, seems like Jacob
Degram needs no hitters win games. Even then he might
have a no hitter. Go, we're gonna have to go
into the tenth inning here, poor guy. Yeah. Have you

(41:33):
ever felt sorry for yes? Yes, yes, I mean not
that sorry because he gets paid. But you just and
I sometimes that happens with certain pitchers where the team
doesn't score, they just don't. Uh Keegan and Iowa, Hey Keegan,
what's on your mind? Hey damn? Hey Keith six one,

(41:56):
one sixty. I hate to do it, but I got
to defend the Toddler here. I remember my freshman year
of high school basketball, our coach lined us up in
layup lines and we did drills on how to take
a charge so you don't smack your head. Oh okay, well,
thank you, Keegan. So somebody agrees with you, Todd, that

(42:16):
you know you can take charges or practice it. I
just remember my little league basketball career. I was an
oh in twenty team and no one would pass me
the ball. I played on a team everyone was, for
some reason, three years older than me. The ball happened
to bounce my way. I threw it and it went
over the backboard because there's no way I was going
to pass it back. And the coach gave me one
of these things with his finger, like he has a
nice spot next to me on the bench. You're done

(42:36):
for the afternoon. Thank you, Todd. Welcome Nolan Ryan. Seven
no hitters, Sandy Kofax four, Justin Verlander three, Bob Feller three,
Cy Young three, Larry Corkrane three, Mike Fires too, Jake
Arietta two, Randy Johnson in there, Johnny Vandermere of course,
do the back to back no hitters. Not a lot

(42:59):
of big names though, throwing those no hitters. Nolan Ryan,
I think seven no hitters and then had like twelve
one hitters. Adam schefter coming up close at first hour
