Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio Final Hour. In this Thursday Dan and The
Dane's Dan Patrick Show. More phone calls coming up, probably
another left turn, as we're famous for. We'll check in
with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They showed up to camp yesterday.
What are the expectations for the Steelers? Has been the

(00:24):
worst quarterback in his own division. We'll check in with
the Steelers coming up. Eight seven seven three D P
Show Email on dress DP at Dan Patrick dot com,
Twitter handle a DP show. I was wondering about this,
with Janni's getting his championship, give me a player around
that same age, twenty three to twenty six years of

(00:45):
age who could really benefit from winning a championship. All
the criticism goes away, and there was a lot of
criticism with Jannis, and even criticism during this year's postseason.
Oh is he a closer? Is christon the go to guy?
Cann he win a big game? You know? Is his

(01:05):
game flawed? He doesn't have a jumper, can't shoot free throws.
These are all things that were said this year and
I started to wonder Lamar Jackson of the Ravens might
be that player. He's got that MVP hasn't had postseason success,
so it's similar trajectory to what we're seeing with Jannis

(01:26):
Dak Prescott not yet, but if he does win a
Super Bowl, I mean you're remembered forever doing it in Dallas. Absolutely,
But I think more Lamar Jackson because he's been an MVP.
Baker Mayfield is sort of in that on deck circle
number one overall. Picka Dak was a feel good story.

(01:47):
You know, they got him in the third round. Wasn't
the quarterback they intended to take. He wasn't even the
second most intended quarterback to take. If that makes sense.
How about Matthew Stafford. But Matthew at his age though
now it does change his legacy. But I'm just talking
about players if they win and then it takes away

(02:10):
a little bit of that pressure, and I'm saying I'm
thinking Lamar Jackson would be that player. Yes, Hedon, Matthew
Stafford has so much hype heading into the season. He
got a bunch of people talking MVP this year. Yeah,
Lamar's twenty four. Baker Mayfield could certainly use it. Josh Allen,

(02:36):
I think is let's see what happens this year, and
then it'll be because he was great last year and
you could say he was as valuable to his team
as anybody in the league was last year. In fact,
I think I made that case. I think he was
that valuable. I didn't think they had a great running game.
I didn't think their offensive line was elite. They did

(02:56):
have Stephan Dick's, but I thought Josh Allen was in
credible last year. You get that next year, and you're
going to get the contract extension. That's another thing. Keep
an eye on Josh Allen. Baker Mayfield to Mark Jackson.
Mark Jackson's going to make between forty and forty five
million dollars a year with this next contract, and with
that comes the expectations. You know, Jannis is going into

(03:18):
his Supermax deal now, so the expectation level was, and hey,
we're spending all this money on you, we need championships.
Now you get that Supermax and it came at a
great time. There's a book on Yannis coming out, and
I just I saw a story on it and there
was a quote in there about when Jannis was first

(03:42):
came over and when he first came over from Greece
and he went to a workout and he was watching
Nicholas Batum, and I believe the coach said, if you
work really hard, you can be a player like Nicholas Batum.
And Jannis's comment was, if I'm a player like Nick Batum,

(04:08):
I'm going back to Greece. But you know, he was
such a project when he got here. He was so skinny,
and now you see him, I mean he is cut.
Yes time, was that a Greek peak of the content
of the book, because that was great? Okay, well behind
the scenes, all right, Well, thank you Todd. Instead of
maybe googling what the book's title was, I'd rather just

(04:29):
come up with some quartery title. Yeah. Yeah, Lamar turns
twenty four in January, so I would say Lamar he
won a title. Just the fact that he's won an MVP.
We haven't seen Baker Mayfield play at a really really
high level. Yeah, we've seen Lamar be incredible, but he
hasn't been great in the postseason. So he might be

(04:49):
that next player to be like Yannis is he turns.
Lamar turns twenty four to twenty five in January. He
will be twenty five next January. Okay, so what you
just sent me Lamar turns twenty four in January. Lamar turned.
I thought I would turned to town four in January. Okay,
all right, so he'll he'll turn twenty five in January.
He's twenty four and a half. Thank you? It really

(05:11):
has exactly like twenty four and a half. Okay because
January July? All right, thank you, Todd, Yes, pout. Did
anyone in your family celebrate half birthdays? Not anymore? Good?
Not anymore? What do you with kids? But when do
you stop saying how many? How old? Years and months?
As a parent? How long do you do that when

(05:32):
somebody says, oh, how old? Like even with our pup,
my puppy, like you know, I have a puppy winning
she's five months, five months in four days? Yes, time,
I think after eighteen months, because a year in eighteen
months sounds more reasonable in saying a year and a half.
I think once your kid turns two years old, than
you're two, you're two and a half, or you're four.
It depends on if it's something really positive where you

(05:54):
go in he's two and a half, Well, what's the
difference between saying months and saying two and a half? Then, like,
why I don't understand why they're is that. Well, you
would do two and a half and then you would go,
he's almost three. I don't think you would do you know,
he's twenty six months. But yeah, you would do two
and a half. But it's usually if if they're doing

(06:15):
something really you know, he's in the ninety ninth percentile
and he's only two and a half. Like you're going, okay.
By the way, if you're a new parent, don't bring
up percentile. Don't. It never works out because you know
when you say, you know, he's my kids, I think
all of our kids are in like the ninety ninth percentile.

(06:35):
It feels like with size or intelligence. I remember my
son's head size was Jackie. I think he was like
ninety nine percentile. Like the kids got a cranium. I
think my son was in the one hundred and first percentage.
It actually goes off the chart. Actually it's not even
on the chart. Yeah, oh my. There would be people
they would see my son when he was first born,

(06:57):
and they would they would stare at his head, Hey
holding that thing up exactly, Man, he's got strong neck muscles.
Oh no, no, no, he doesn't. I was positive my
son is never going to be able to hold his
own head up. It was just but you would like
people they want to be complimentary when they see your child.

(07:18):
And I would just remember a friend of mine said, oh,
he's got a he's got a big head there say that.
I can't say that. Is that a direct quote? Yes,
well I think he said it and didn't mean to
say it was so obviously. Yes, my son looked like
a lollipop. You look at you, And I will say

(07:40):
this that when my son sees a baby that's got
a big head, he always says to the parents, there's hope,
there's hope it'll balance out. Yes, Now my son is
is pretty tall, pretty big, So it did work for him.
He grew into his head. He had a grown up's
head when he was born, like for the neck from behind.

(08:03):
They'd be like, hey, mister, oh my gosh, you're only
four months old. But he couldn't keep his head up.
But you know, you're always trying to say something nice
to somebody with their child. They go, hey, bigger the parrot,
bigger the cage. Huhs got a good brain in there.
It's like big your brain is? Your brain is the parrot?

(08:23):
What the reference? What body part was your parrot? You
got a big brain in there, high it's gonna serve them. Well, okay,
all right, I got it. I got it, Now, I
got it. Let's get a couple of phone calls in here.
By the way, Mike Cracking, they were introduced last night.

(08:44):
I've called the Seattle Cracking. They're my team. Uh. I
got my officials, Seattle Cracking gear, NHL expansion team. They
brought in everybody from Seattle, you know, all the personality
celebrities up there to help him with the draft. But
the cracking, they got some good gear. And as we know,
with the kids, it's all about the gear. Looks good,

(09:05):
looks impressive. All right, let's get a couple of phone
calls in here. Jesse and Los Angeles. Hi, Jess, welcome back.
What do you have for me today? Hey, hey, gentlemen,
it's been a minute. I was also in Iceland the
past two weeks. Like the Cloven. It was an awesome trip,

(09:25):
but we did a bunch of road tripping and I
was able to hear the podcast and sure my friend
onto it. So thanks for helping us get through the
long haul because we were absolutely dying when Ted and
Tampa had his hello Hello, Hello, and that became a
running joke. Hello, we would wake up, you're there, he
would wake up. Seaton's been doing that to me almost

(09:51):
non stop. He'll just go hello, Hello. But this is
the best part of it is the guy's like mid
sentence and he'll be saying that Hello. Yeah, yeah, dude,
we're listening. Yes, I'm listening to you. Ted. Yeah. I
think he was waiting for the guy who goes yeah,
uh huh yeah huh yeah. Right, all right, jess what
do you have? I was doing the same thing we were.
We'd wake up in the morning, first thing we say hello.

(10:14):
But hey, I was able to watch some one am
NBA Finals games and it hit my friend and I
that we've all been missing out on a new nickname
for Joannis and because of how Jackie is Gianna the Adonnas.
What do you guys think? Um? I but it's Janis
the Adonis. I think the Greek freak is that's pretty good.

(10:36):
That's standalone Greek. Yeah, I don't like them. I got
a deist. I'm just trying to work with you. No,
don't do it, because Todd's gonna try to do it.
I am starting to think of some big I know,
you know how it works. Maybe maybe we'll get to
Friday before you start thinking about them. You know, it's

(10:58):
like Eminem when he would write and then he would
somehow he could he could uh pronounce a word that
would work, that it would rhyme. And you try to
do that, I know, even if it's not an actual
real word, to just come up with something that makes
it rhyme and it's not an actual word in addiction. Well,
when when we were doing you know, pork Off and
pawk Off, like, you weren't even close. What do you

(11:22):
think that is? Do you have to go for like
a hearing test or something. I guess somebody like that.
I wouldn't understand how things rhyme properly. No, you guys
were like in shock, how like I was certain words
rhyme that were they were not even close. Well maybe
if you had music behind you, you know, like M
and M does, then it might you might a little

(11:42):
better there. But you weren't even close with pork Off Hawk,
pok Off yeah, Hawk yeah. And I go to how
he talks like that? What do you do it? Uh?
Scott in New York Hi, Scott, what's on your mind today?
All right? Dan? Second time, long time, five nine one seventy. Um,

(12:08):
you guys are just started talking about Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson,
Josh Allen kind of how all three of those guys
have contracts coming up to sign. Yeah, if you were
starting a team or just sort of in general, Josh
Josh Josh Ellen, Yeah, yeah, okay, yeah, yep, yeap, Thank

(12:29):
thank you, Skun, because I still need Lamar to be
able to show that he can be a consistent thrower,
because that's what the game is all about. You can run,
but eventually you start to slow down, and you know
the same thing with Kyler Murray. You got to be
able to prove that. And Steve Young went through this.
A lot of great quarterbacks have gone through this where

(12:51):
you get you get happy feet, where you don't go
through your progressions, where you go, Okay, that's that's my
first target, not there, that's my second and target not there,
then you go to your third. Well, Steve Young would
just basically look and then he would go Randall Cunningham
did the same thing. You're not going through your progressions,

(13:13):
but when you have that ability, Michael Vick same way.
When you have that ability, when you know you got
to get out of jail card and it's your legs,
then sometimes you rely on them too much. Josh Allen
did that. He does it too much in my opinion.
He's dangerous runner. He's a big guy. Cam Newton did
this for a while. After a while, when you get hit,
you know, then all of a sudden, that's that great

(13:35):
reminder where you go, oh, that's right, I'm not supposed
to run that much. Now Cam doesn't. He still runs,
but he doesn't run. They had design plays for him
in Carolina. Michael Vick design plays. When you have design plays,
Lamar Jackson has those as well. It's just at some
point you have to beat teams with your arm. And

(13:56):
I'm still not sure with Baker Mayfield. I don't like
Odell beck m Junior there with him because I thought
he was trying to he I thought he singled him
out way too much, and I think last year you
saw that he didn't and they spread it around. They're
a running team that I would be featuring the running
game to compliment Baker Mayfield, not the other way around.

(14:19):
I don't want to have the pass to set up
the run. I want the run to set up the pass.
But I've yet to see him make that leap where
Josh Allen was a legitimate MVP candidate. Lamar Jackson's won
an MVP. Baker make a Pro Bowl, No, I'd settle
for that or make the Super Bowl. I mean, but

(14:40):
but you know do I want to sign him for
forty million dollars a year? And the thing is is
what other choice do you have? But I don't want
to sign him early because I'm not going to get
a disc If you said, hey, you signed him early,
you get a discount. Okay, I at least consider that
Lamar Jackson's gonna make forty two forty five million dollars

(15:01):
a year, and the expectation level in Cleveland is high.
If you don't go to the AFC title game, I
feel like people be disappointed in Cleveland. I mean, that's
a pretty high bar that you're set. You're setting. Let's
take a break. Let's check in on the Steelers, because
they were a pleasant surprise last year through the first

(15:23):
eleven games, and then after that, I think the true
Colors started to show. Is Ben the fourth best quarterback
in his own division? A plier way of saying, is
he the worst quarterback in the AFC? North will check
in with the Steelers. More phone calls as well. Right
after this on the Dan Patrick Show, Simply Save Home Security, Man,

(15:45):
I can't say enough great things about them. I got
sixty seconds to talk about Simply Safe. I would need
a good hour to tell you about simply Safe because
it is simple, simple that you set it up and
it's safe. You know, burglary of fire, medical emergency. When
you call somebody, do they answer? Is it a recording?
You want to have that person on the other end.

(16:07):
Simply Safe makes it easy, takes a couple of minutes
to customize the system on the website simply safetand dot com.
They've been doing this for fifteen years now, and when
we first met with them, I kept thinking, it is
simple that we can set it up. You don't need
an electrician, You do it yourself, and it's going to
take you thirty minutes, maybe an hour. And if you

(16:27):
need people to help you with it, they're there. There's interaction,
and it's really important to Simply Safe to have that
interaction with their customers to learn more about simply Safe
and how it can protect you and your family. Go
to simply safetan dot com customize your system. You'll get
a free security camera, sixty day risk free trial, nothing
to lose. That's simply safetan dot Com. Thanks for listening

(16:50):
to The Dan Patrick Show podcast. Be sure to catch
us live every weekday morning nine until noon eastern six
to nine Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and you can
find us on the iHeartRadio app at FSR or stream
us live on the Peacock app. There was a softball
game at the Olympics and it was between I think
Japan and Australia, and that was on Tuesday. They saw

(17:13):
black bear and then they came back Wednesday and they
didn't They couldn't find the bear. So they don't know
if the bear is still roaming around this softball venue.
In Japan, bear sightings reached their highest point in five
years last year more than thirteen thousand, almost fourteen thousand
reported sightings across the country from April to September. Degree

(17:39):
of difficulty just playing a softball game, and then you
got to worry about the brown bear that might be
lurking there. Oh, let's talk talk some football. Somehow I
make that smooth segue. Yes, pably. If you told me
that Olympic sports would have grizzly bears thrown in the
middle of them, I'm tuned in. You know, even archery
it's kind of a slow sport, but if there's a

(18:00):
grizzly bear meandering about the contestants, I'm tuning in. Jerry Dulac,
he covers the Steelers for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette, hosts
the Steelers radio network as well, and kind enough to
join us before he heads to camp. I saw where
Ben showed up clean, shaven ish, and he had a
shirt on that said different there, Jerry, So are you

(18:22):
forced to then report on right about how great Ben looks? Now? Well?
I will tell you Dan that despite what people think,
the last three or four years, he has come to
camp in wonderful shape. You know, he's had he's hired
a nutritionist, he's hired a trainer. He looks especially good, nile,

(18:42):
especially trim. People forget he's a big man. He's a
six foot five, two hundred and fifty pound guy. But
I have to admit, as well as he has looked
every year coming to camp, he looks especially well and fit. Yesterday.
Certainly in that picture, is he the fourth best quarterback
in his own division? Yeah, I think that's a bunch
of bologna. You know, that's based on you know that

(19:04):
that's just based on on future possibilities, you know, But
I mean Ben's a proven winner and three Super Bowl appearances,
two titles, a number of playoff victories. His numbers speak
for themselves. And even last year, Dan, I think, you know,
when you think they got off to that eleven and
oz start, he's coming off major, major elbow surgery and

(19:26):
at one point after after eleven weeks, he's being talked
about an MVP candidate, forget about comeback player of the year.
Then he had that little slump, and he had a
big second half in the Indie game over three hundred
yards and three touchdowns. That that snapped him out of
that slump. And then after that, you know that terrible
start against the Browns, you know, the bad snap on

(19:46):
a first play from scrimmage. You know, in a second
half again, three hundred thirty yards, three touchdowns, made every
throw possible. You know, Ben is still Ben? Okay, Yeah,
he's thirty eight. He's not the same guy he was
when he was twenty eight. But this idea that he's
the fourth best quarterback in a division just based on
future possibilities of the young guys in a division to

(20:07):
me as a little far fetched. Why do you think
there was some trepidation? It felt like maybe on the Steelers,
part of has been do they want him back? And
at what price do you get him? Is that a
correct impression of what happened here. Yeah, absolutely, And I
will tell you that Ben actually thought that they were

(20:27):
trying to make him, force him to make the decision
for them. I'm surprised on one hand, but not because
they did eventually do what I thought they would do.
But you know, they knew they had to do something
with that salary cap hit, but wanting feeling that they

(20:48):
were in position to move on from him with all
the changes they were making or thought they were going
to have to make, and as it turns out, some
of those they didn't. I'm certainly not surprised that he's back.
I expected that all along, but I have to admit, Dan,
I was a little surprised that there was some hesitation.
I always thought it would be Ben would go out

(21:10):
on Ben's terms and nobody else's in for a while,
it looked like it looked like it wasn't going to
be on his terms. What did you make of their
offseason in Pittsburgh. Well, the funny thing is is they
thought a lot of the changes were going to be
on offense and not on defense. They thought, you know,
maybe Ben was going to be gone. They knew James
they were going to move on from James Connor. They

(21:31):
thought Juju Smith Schuster would be gone. They knew Marquis
Pouncey was going to retire, and of course that happened
and they did move on from James Connor. But the
funny thing is is a lot of their changes dan
ended up being on defense. They lost three starters. They
kind of anticipated that that might happen with Bud Dupree
and maybe even Mike Hilton. But now you throw in

(21:53):
the retirement yesterday of Vince Williams, you know, a guy
that they had released after the season, decided to bring
back just to kind of plug that hole for one
more year, and then he retires on them. So I
think their offense, yeah, there's a lot of changes. You know,
they weren't counning on David DeCastro moving on from him
that was injury related. So the changes on the offensive line,

(22:17):
they kind of somewhat knew that was going to happen,
but they didn't plan on DeCastro, So some of those
changes they counted on some day, didn't. I think they're
better offensively. I think they're a little a little less
ferocious on defense. Let me get a quick hit on
the other teams in the division. Let's start with the Bengals.
What do you expect, Well, until they show that they

(22:39):
can move up to be a five hundred ball club,
you know, I'll wait and see. It's kind of like
the Browns two years ago. The Browns had to show
me they could do it again, and they did. But
I mean, I like Joe Burrow. I think he's going
to be a fantastic quarterback. I hated to see the
injury last year. You hate to see that happened to
any kind of promising young star. I think they'll be better,

(23:01):
But I mean, I think the Browns are legit and
the Ravens are the Ravens. The Ravens are very much
like the Steelers. Even when you don't think they're going
to be very good, they're good. That's just that's a
a salute to their organization, but there's no reason to think. Look,
I'm not going to sit here and pronounce the Steelers
are going to the super Bowl. But as I tell everybody, Dan,
I mean, who would have thought they'd start eleven and

(23:22):
oh last year? Who thought they'd go twelve and four
and win the division? I can tell you not too
many people, certainly around here. And my feeling has always been,
as long as you have number seven, you're not out
of any game, and you're not out of any season. Jerry,
great to talk to you, and hopefully we'll catch up
with you during the season. We appreciate your time. Yeah, Dan,

(23:42):
any time, and good to chat with you. All right,
Jerry Dulac He covers the Steelers Pittsburgh Post Gazette host
the host on the Steelers radio network. Get some phone
calls in here, Chris and Vermont. Hey Chris, what's on
your mind today? Hey? Dan? How are you doing good? Sir?
Five three one fifty an you very little. I just
have a take that I've continued to have and especially

(24:05):
after hearing the last caller you had. Okay, Chris, you
know that Vermont's cell phone service spotty YEP, spotty at best.
Drew in Texas. I Drew, Good morning Dan, first time

(24:27):
A long time vertically challenged and gravity challenged. So just
you know, been mired in the Cowboys situation here for
a long time, A long time Cowboy fan, but was
able to shift to mister Patrick and his team a
few years ago. And it's been really exciting. Just hate

(24:47):
to hear all the playoff talk and Super Bowl talk
of the Cowboys every year, and you know they just
need to prove something. But how about those chiefs man,
They've just been so exciting to watch, even though I
couldn't watch the Super Bowl. Uh wait, wait you wait, Drew, Drew,
you bailed on the Cowboys. Oh yeah, a long time ago.

(25:08):
It's you just have to be here. I'm a fan,
but you know, there's just so much to talk about there.
What'd you do with your cowboy gear? You know it's
in there. It's just dusty. I think you got to
get rid of it. You can't go back through, you know,
I know, but you have you know, you're you're here,

(25:30):
so you gotta you gotta stick with it. But really
excited about the new old line Kansas City. And I really,
I really think they're gonna they're gonna be better. I
don't see how that can't be better. So just excited
about that. And uh, I don't want to say hi
to the guys man and great show. Thank you Drew,
Thank you Drew. He wants to say hi to the guys, Hi, guys,

(25:52):
whoever those guys are, and just want to say hi
to him. I like how he he's like a like
a nine year old who goes, um, you know, I'm
gonna root for or the Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes after
they won the Super Bowl. I get it after a while,
twenty five years of promises with the Cowboys and then
you just go all right, I'm gonna abandon ship. Maybe

(26:16):
he just said I got to go to a winner,
so I'm gonna go to the Kansas City Chiefs. Oh yes,
which fan base? Could you understand that most of a
person saying I gotta bail, I gotta try a new
team because I'm wasting my life. Like if you're like
a fifty or forty year old Knicks fan, forty or
fifty ye old Knicks fan, they're better now, but you've
suffered for two decades of nothing. Basically, are there worse situations.

(26:38):
I mean Lions, but the Clippers. Yeah, I mean, you've
had a little bit of success there. I mean being
a Dallas Cowboy fan. Where it used to be you
were proud to say you're a Cowboy fan. Not as
much in the last couple of decades here because it

(27:00):
didn't go well. Got embarrassed. You know, Steelers have been
to Super Bowls. Packers have been to Super Bowls. If
you're a Raider fan, you know does that Yeah? Yeah,
I mean the Knicks fans, those are great fans. Are
you a great fan if you're kind of your loyalty

(27:22):
is blind, because that loyalty is blind in New York,
it has to be they show up. That's I guess
it's a credit to they love their basketball. I think
you start with that, yes time and celebrating that one
win against the Hawks, the wind they want, the whole
thing was wild shirts off in the middle of the city.

(27:42):
I've seen Marti Gras parties, parades that are less celebratory
than the Knicks beat the Hawks. They beat the Hawks
one game in round one, they didn't even advance. You
beat the Hawks, those very same Hawks who into the
conference finals. Yes, you're right, But oh my god, that's

(28:04):
a that's a fan base. And most of those guys
who had their shirts off, they weren't alive the last
time Nicks won anything, won a championship, came close to
a championship yes time, and it wasn't enough to just
celebrate a meaningless one win. They also then had to
be derogatory to his tree young and is losing his hair.
You have to say mean things about the other team
and celebrator. Yeah yeah, yeah, uh Greg and Wisconsin, Hi Greg,

(28:28):
what's on your mind? Hey? How you doing? Dan? Good?
First time long time, six foot two, twenty five. Just
want to have a show out to you guys. I
was at Game four in Game six of the NBA Finals,
and I love the way that you talk up be honest.
He's an incredible young man. Y tickets for eight years
and watching him grow has been phenomenal, absolutely phenomenal. Secondly,

(28:53):
for all you Packer fans out there, R E. L
A X. We'll get him back, don't worry. And lastly, Dan,
I got four daughters at all under twenties. I feel
your pain, brother, Thank you, Greg. And pain is probably
not the correct word because I have three great daughters.

(29:15):
It's just the pain is going to be. How embarrassed
I'm going to be as I cry walking them down
the aisle, like when you hear a grown man openly
heaving like it. I'm gonna need maybe somebody who I
can if I go to the bullpen, that somebody can

(29:35):
come in. Maybe my oldest brother, maybe he can come
in because he at the reception of his daughter, he
couldn't speak my oldest brother's daughter when she got married,
my oldest brother couldn't speak. They gave the microphone you
know where you have to give a toast, and he

(29:56):
couldn't do it. So his son comes in and grabs
the mic herophone and then he basically handles the duties
for my older brother couldn't do it. He was he
was He was a mess. He was like a wet
mop up there and I'm going, oh my god. At
first I go what's wrong with him? And then I

(30:17):
then I realized, oh my god, I gotta do this
three times. And is this brother traditionally more sentimental than you,
or more of a crier or less of a crier
than you. Traditionally he's up there, so he's in your neighborhood.
Yes he is, so that's you. Yes three times, Yes, Yes,
it's a guarantee. By the way you've cried, I've seen
you cry it like a trailers for movies before you've

(30:38):
gotten choked out. Yes, yeah, yes, I for some reason,
I can. I can cry at at something that somebody's
laughing at. But you know my daughters say, oh, you
know it's endearing Dad, No it's not. I want to
know if I could pre tape my speech. Now here's

(31:01):
another thing. I'm gonna let you behind the curtain. So
I'm I'm going into the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame,
and then I'm nominated for the Radio Hall of Fame.
So not sports radio, it's it's just the Radio Hall
of Fame. I don't want to go to those events
because I know I'll get up there and I'll start crying.

(31:23):
Because when you start to think back and you thank people,
you know, my dad didn't get to see any of this.
He died so young, he was fifty three, and you know,
it just hits you. And if I could pre tape,
I would do that. But if I get up there
and I thought about I would invite the dan Ens
just for like comfort that they could stand up there

(31:43):
with me, and then if they see me going off
the deep end, then you guys could jump in. Todd
could do five minutes to stand up Yes, seton, are you?
Are you with me? I am with you. Yeah, I'm
imagining that moment actually when we would be I'll be
on stage and you start, you do the pau Yeah
you're saying something, and then you just you do the pause,

(32:06):
and then I'll go to the bullpen like I'll have
right hander for Paulie, left hander for Todd's gonna rub
your shoulders. I'll do the shoulder rub and let you
get yourself together. I'll block your you're crying, It's just
it'll be horrible. It's gonna be horrible. It's okay, boss,
And I am told my oldest daughter if if you lope,

(32:27):
I'm okay with it. I mean your mom wouldn't be,
but I'd be okay with it. Yeah. I have the
list for the twenty twenty one nominees for the Radio
Hall of Fame. I think it should be a good time.
Guess who's also in there. Chris mad Dog Russo is
gonna be there. He's got to go in. Is he

(32:51):
not already in ye, how is he not? He might
be in with him and Mike Francessor. I got you,
I got a whole bunch of people. Kim Commando is
gonna be there, She spun, Yeah, I know. Yeah, it's
a big deal. Go into the TV Hall of Fame,
and then the radiohole fam. Oh my god, John Susan
Walman's in the Mexic, Oh my god, John, Roger Clever

(33:15):
Yankees broadcasting, well, the dramatic things I've ever seen, Roger
Glennonstanon and George Dyne Brennan's balks. And now to hit
back best, I guess I'm not going to be in
the Radio Hall of Fame. We are going to remove you,
James and Texas and we'll take a break. Hey James,

(33:36):
what's on your mind? Hey Dan first? Hey Dan first?
Long time? Hey James six five two. Um, just wanting
to hit him a couple of things. First, the Texas
OU moved to the SEC as far as football goes,
an that'd be a little bit easier transition for OU
than Texas given the last decade of football. But as

(33:58):
far as the program goes, I think Texas would have
a decent time in terms of entire athletic program and
then the other thing. So I played baseball Texas for
a couple of years, and I've spoken to some current
athletes and some ex athletes and quite a few fans,
and nobody is in favor of this horns down penalty.
Like everybody thinks it's very much blown up, and it's

(34:18):
not really, I think. So I don't know who's pushing
for it, but it ain't us. I know. It just
sounds silly, like if you if you taunt Texas, you know,
if you do it to the crowd, it's okay. And
how about this just Texas be great again. That's a
lot harder to do that. Just to throw a flag though,
I mean it just throw the yellow who But I'm saying,

(34:38):
if a take care of business here, how about you're
just good. You cut down on the opportunities for somebody
to do horns down. Oh my god, it's like you
want somebody to step in and settle this feud, this battle.
I'd love for Texas to say, like, hey, Alabama, you
guys can't do that. Don't do horns stop at don't

(34:59):
do horn down. It's really mean, Okay, yes you see
and then we'll get the Okay Texas problems. Texas turns
down the opportunity to join SEC after Alabama and refuse it.
Don't do horns down very disrespect and Alabama response where
we'll do it. After the first touchdown, we scawed you.
Not on the seventh, eighth, and ninth touchdown. We're scaw
on you when we come back. No offense you saying.

(36:09):
You're gonna Where is that guy that was Men's warehouse?
I think they kicked him to the curb, didn't they?
And then they also kicked the Doseki's guy to the curb.
Oh he hit a good run. Yeah, the most interesting man.
But the guy though, that guy was awesome. Yes, I
actually met him. I met him at the Preakness in Baltimore.
Turns out super boring. Yes, crazy boring guy. Yeah, he's

(36:30):
not that interesting. He wasn't the most interesting man at
the party that I was at. But yeah, they kicked
him to the curb. Rady. Let's see. Oh I mentioned
you seen Bolt. Of course, if all the people you
want to hear from when it comes to Aaron Rodgers situation,
you've seen Bolt came to mind for me. This is
courtesy of Sports Illustrated. One more, you know, chance, before

(36:54):
I let you go, just because you had mentioned it before,
did you want to make a plea to Aaron Rodgers
to stay with the packer? I would beg Aaron DGEs
this day. I think this year, I last year we
very close. We were so close, you know what I mean?
And I think that this year we had the draft.
We got a lot of good players this season and
a lot of guys that stayed, you know what I mean,

(37:15):
Vante Adams and everybody. So I need Aaron. Aaron Rodgers,
please stay at Green Day. We need you. Courtesy Sports Illustrated.
Robin Lundberg was asking him that question. It was just
so random where you're going. Everybody's sort of weighing in
on this. I didn't know you saying Bolt was a

(37:36):
Packer fan, but he's begging Aaron to to stay. Uh
John and North Carolina? Hi, John, what do you have
for me today? Hey? What's up? Guys? Five ten to fifteen? Yeah,
just call on to uh Hello, Yes, yes, John. No,

(38:01):
I'm just Colin man. Am. I'm the only person that
thinks the people a little too hard on Lamar Jackson
about his arm. I mean, we are talking about the
guy who won MVP with thirty six touchdowns out through
Russell Wilson. Last year. He only had twenty seven hundred
yards twenty six touchdowns, but he was working with depleted

(38:22):
receivers who couldn't catch a pass if they had a
spider tack on their hands and behind uh you know,
or hurt offensive line. So I mean, he was running
for his life half the time. You know, you have
Aaron snaps. I don't know. I just think that you
see that, you know, management agrees. Look at everything that
the Ravens have dumped into the receiving to try to

(38:44):
get better this year and to give him some actual weapons. Yeah,
I don't think that, you know, they would be doing
that if they didn't believe that he could do it
with his arm. Yeah, they're all They're all valid points
you make, John, Thanks for the phone call. I've never
been impressed with their wide receiving corps. They've been a
tight end driven passing attack. I mean, he's a fabulous talent,

(39:07):
but I've been all in on Lamar since he was drafted.
I couldn't understand when people were watching him in college
and then somehow saying, well, he can't throw the football.
All right, there's certain throws you have to make in
the NFL, and he still has to prove he can
make those. But just because he can run, sometimes when
a quarterback can run, then we assume you can't pass.

(39:29):
I think about all these great running quarterbacks and then
you go, well they can't pass. I ain't Josh Allen
runs he wasn't a great passer in college. Percentage wise,
he was not a great passer. Lamar was a better
passer in college than Josh Allen and playing against better competition.

(39:51):
But Josh Allen right now, to me as bigger upside
and we'll turn out to be a better quarterback than
the mare Jackson. But Lamar has already won an MVP.
That's impressive stuff. But with that comes the expectations, just
like Yanna's. He won two MVPs, and all we heard
about was all we reminded you of, can't do it

(40:14):
in the postseason. Well that's there with Lamar, it goes
along with the territory. We want to see you win.
In fact, we expect you to win. This day in
sports history, Paulie, what do you have for me? This
is one of our favorites. Nineteen twenty six, at Mitchell
Field in New York, Babe Ruth caught a baseball that
had been dropped from an airplane flying at two hundred
and fifty feet. It was like a challenge. They tried

(40:36):
it a couple of times, and he did it. I
think he did it twice. You know. Gronk used to
have the record of catching a football from the highest point.
I think somebody just beat that record, like in the
last couple of days. Can you imagine dating. I'm guessing
it's dangerous because or is there a max speed for
a baseball? Or would it be like Babe Ruth is

(40:56):
the premier player in the sport and the commissioner said, yeah,
I go ahead, big guy, catch a baseball from two
hundred fifty feet. I don't know if they, you know,
ran this by the commissioner, like if Otani someone pitched that.
To Otani is like, hey, between a doubleheader, let's do this.
I don't know how fast it would be from two
hundred and fifty feet that you drop it. I was

(41:18):
never good in math, Yes, hunt, I was standing by
with the poll question. Oh the final results, okay, all right,
but let me get to if Paully has anything else
with this day in sports history? Oh, you are ready,
so go ahead. Do you care if Texas and Oklahoma
moved to the SEC twenty three percent say, I'd be devastated,
But a last seventy seven percent went with and why

(41:40):
would that bother me? I like the emotion attached to this.
Do you have anything else there Paully. I can't top that.
Uh yeah you can't. Oh yeah, yeah you can. Uh
let's see, let's get Chris in California. Hey, Chris, what
do you have for med? First time? Long time? Five?

(42:03):
Ten is two and a half stins. Yeah. I wanted
to pull Drew's Cowboys fan card, but I'll do that
on a different day. I guess since we were talking
about Lamar, a couple of things came to mind as
you guys were just discussing it. I think the biggest

(42:24):
worry with Lamar is does the NFL catch up to
him at some point, which happens to a lot of
running quarterbacks. And secondly, does John Harbaugh he wins a
Super Bowl with him, become the next Joe Gibbs, three
super Bowl, three different quarterbacks. Yeah, all right, thank you buddy. Yeah.
John Harball yea, somehow, some way he always feels a contender, always, Todd,

(42:49):
would you learned today? Jerry Dulac or the Pittsburgh Post
Gazette says, Hey, it's a bunch of bologney to suggest
Ben Roethlisbrook is the worst quarterback in his own division.
Nancy North, Seaton, O'Connor, Bennish shredded, Paul, They're you're cracking. Yes,
