Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:05):
They are so beatable, but they're undefeated. Welcome to the program.
It's our one, Dan and the Dan Ed's Dan Patrick Show.
I'm watching the game last night and Ken's City Chiefs.
It just kind of let's go through the motions. This
is what we do. It's not fancy. We're not scoring
a lot of points, but we continue to win. Pretty amazing,

(00:25):
pretty amazing. Come on in, stay a while. Gang's all here,
ready to go, all fired up. Stat of the Day
brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards

of the Day. Stat of the Day. Larry Fitzgerald, the

(00:48):
future Hall of Famer. He'll join us coming up next hour.
Bob Costas was on the call for the Yankees and
the Royals last night. Bob will join us as well.
You got phillies at the Mets later today. Dodgers Padres
later on tonight will recap the baseball recap the Monday
night game as the Chiefs handled the Saints twenty six

(01:08):
to thirteen, eight seven seven three DP show. That's the number.
You can dial up and the person answering will be Tyler.
He will put you on hold and we'll let you
be part of the program. And also Danpatrick dot Com
got a variety of things there, got some new T
shirts there as well. You can hear all the podcasts
we have as well. So I started out by saying

(01:30):
they are so beatable, at least the presentation of being
so beatable, but they're undefeated. And I mentioned this a
couple of days ago that the brilliance of Andy Reid.
Now he's going to be overshadowed because Patrick mahomes, Travis Kelcey,
it's Andy Reid. And I don't know if we look
at Andy Reid and put him in the category as

(01:51):
one of the greatest coaches of all time, we should.
I think it's the presentation of Andy Reid, like he
just like a big guy, a fun guy. You know,
he's in commercials and got the mustache. You know, it
looks like the kool Aid guy, Like, oh, that's Andy Reid.
But what he did with Philadelphia. No, granted didn't win

(02:11):
a Super Bowl, but got them to numerous title games,
NFC Title games and a Super Bowl. But what he's
doing with Kansas City, and I think the genius of
it is his ability to put players on offense. Now
you do have Patrick Mahomes and he's going to make
it work. But just looking at their weapons, really their

(02:32):
team is Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Chris Jones. If I'm
looking at the pecking order of these are the must haves,
I would start with Mahomes and then I would go
to Andy Reid as most valuable. Kelsey was in there,
He's not in there. Chris Jones has to be in there.
They can win without Travis Kelcey. They cannot win without

(02:54):
Chris Jones. Chris Jones is you know, it's still in
the shadow probably of Aaron Donald because Aaron Donald people
probably still think Aaron Donald's playing. But Chris Jones is
that guy. He's that guy. You gotta know where he is.
He's gonna change the game. But I'm looking at the
lineup with the Chiefs. Last night they signed Kareem Hunt

(03:18):
as a free agent. Now they sent a sixth round
pick for Mkole Hardman last season from the Jets, they
got Juju Smith Schuster, a free agent, Carson Steele's a
running back out of UCLA, undrafted Sky Moore, former second
round pick out of Western Michigan. Now they did trade
up to get Xavier Worthy might be the fastest player

(03:40):
in the game. Samaj p Ryan, a running back, signed
him as a free agent, and he was released by Denver.
That's it. Rashid Rice is going to be out for
the rest of the year. But you're kind of throwing
this together. And it did remind me of the Patriots
because Tom Brady he made people stars relevant. You know,

(04:03):
Kevin Falk, you know Troy Brown, you know Less Welker
had a little bit of success in Miami, but you
know he became more of a household name. Julian Edelman,
Danny m Mondola. Now, you did have Gronk like he
has a Hall of Famer and Aaron Hernandez when he
had him, but Tom didn't have offensive weapons. If you

(04:27):
go back and look, now, I did have Randy Moss
for two years and they couldn't complete the mission there
of going undefeated winning the Super Bowl. But that ability
to be able to take players and make them kind
of mesh into something that's formidable because they don't score.
I'm looking at and I had to do some research

(04:49):
on this. If you include the postseason, the Chiefs had
gone fifteen consecutive games without scoring thirty points, second longest
active street in the NFL behind the Patriots, who now
stead of a.

Speaker 3 (05:06):
Day, stall of a day, steata a day, statata day.
This is the stat of the day.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
But they appear to be beatable. But last year they
started out six and one, they finished eleven six. They
went five and five to end this season. So but
when they need to win a game, they know how
to win a game. They know how to close you out.
So no matter what happens during the regular season, it
doesn't matter to me. It matters when they get into

(05:39):
a game that's a one score game and you have
Mahomes and they don't. They have Chris Jones and you don't.
They have Andy Reid and you don't. Because Andy Reid
is the best coach in football and he has been
for a while. But it's just the mahomesy and kind
of blanket that thrown over this team. And then you

(06:02):
throw in Taylor Swift and Travis Kelcey and Chris Jones,
and there's Andy Reid over there. But Andy Reid is
one of the great great coaches in NFL history. And
you know, it does help to have Mahomes, It does
help to have Travis Kelcey, it does help to have
Chris Jones. But it's kind of filling in that gray area.

(06:24):
That's the difference because there are so many teams. Now
you're top heavy because your quarterback's making fifty million dollars.
Now you've got to sprinkle, you know, out the rest
of the salaries and then bring in players. And I
mean they're bringing in free agents. Anybody could have had
Kareem Hunt if they wanted him. I mean, that's that's

(06:44):
the amazing part of this. Carson Steele undrafted free agent
and he think he was at Ball State, then went
to UCLA, Juju Smith, Schuster, free agent Xavier Worthy. They
did trade up with Buffalo Sky Moore, former second round
pick out of Western Michigan. Like they're they're making it

(07:04):
happen again, but it's not an accident. But I do
think people tune in to see Kansas City lose. I do.
I think it's gotten to that point. Where we're tired
of this commercials Taylor Swift. But they're here, They're not

(07:25):
going anywhere, and it's pretty amazing. But give credit, give
credit to the front office as well. They've done a
wonderful job. But here's Patrick Mahomes after the win talking
about his teammates stepping up.

Speaker 4 (07:39):
I mean, Kream just runs extremely hard. He gets every
yard out there, catches the ball, does whatever it takes
in order to go out there and win. And then juju,
I mean y'all saw him two years ago. I mean,
he fits in well in this offense and so he
did a great job today. So it was cool to
get those guys going and then to step up. And
it's going to be like that until we start getting
some of these guys back as to be everybody's want the

(08:00):
stuff and make plays.

Speaker 2 (08:02):
He's right, But you know, is this sustainable? And the
answer is yes, because it's interchangeable parts. It's understanding the system.
I think that's really the key. How many teams franchises
have a system in place. The Patriots used to you
the Patriot way. This is what you're required to do

(08:23):
on defense, this is what you're required to do on offense.
But how many of those teams are out there where
you go plug and play that guy will know what
he's supposed to do with that team, or this guy's
coming back to this team. That's the interesting part too,
is you're getting players who played there, they're coming back
and then they're able to contribute. But who else is

(08:44):
Like the forty nine ers, I don't think they're there.
The Lions aren't, Cowboys, aren't Eagles. Eagles maybe because they've
had that group together for a little while, but they
don't feel like they're I mean, you want it to
be formulaic where you can just plug in players and
then you're able to go out there. You're not teaching
people how to play in your system. They know your system.

(09:08):
But having that ability to find those players, it's no
different than what Brady did with his offense. Never had
you know that formidable team, you know, like they were.
They would score points, but it wouldn't be like, oh man,
look out. I mean, Edelman never scared anybody until there

(09:30):
was a game on the line and needed the you know,
you needed to catch Gronk always in the postseason. But
he never had great running backs. I mean, had Corey Dillon,
I think for a year or so, but you know
that's that's their offense was predicated on that ability to
be able to find players, plug and play. So I
see that there's a there's a similarity there with the

(09:51):
Kansas City Chiefs, but they're undefeated at the end of
the day. Undefeated. All right, poll question seating for the
first hour of the programs going to be what.

Speaker 5 (10:02):
We're gonna start with the worst quarterback stitch in the NFL.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Okay, it's a couple of real doozies. All right. I
didn't know there was any competition with this, but go.

Speaker 5 (10:12):
Ahead, well you we could talk about it. Okay, we
can't obviously start with Cleveland. Yeah, I thought that's where
we start and end.

Speaker 6 (10:21):
Yeah, that's a pretty big one, isn't it. Yeah, things
aren't going well there.

Speaker 2 (10:25):
No they're not. No, they're not. I don't know if
they're gonna go well anytime soon. Here is Kevin Stefanski,
the Browns head coach, on defendinge Deshaun Watson.

Speaker 7 (10:37):
I have to coach better. As offensive coaches, we have
to coach better. As players. We have to play better.
DeShawn can play better. He will play better. He's had
some obviously good moments, and then there's times that we
have to play better around him. But he's committed to
getting better. We're committed as an offense to putting our
guys in position to succeed.

Speaker 2 (11:00):
What did he just say? Everything has to get better,
We're going to get better. I got to coach better,
we got to play better. How do you coach better? Coach?
Can you coach better? In September? Can you coach better
with Deshaun? Like? What does that mean? That was a

(11:20):
word salad, that meant nothing. We just got to play better.
I got to coach better, and Deshaun's going to play better.
And he should have said and he better, or you know,
we're all screwed. Yeh.

Speaker 6 (11:32):
See how much do you think he's calling the shots there?

Speaker 2 (11:36):
I don't think he's calling anything that has to do
with Deshaun Watson. I think that's up above because it
is still remarkable given what Joe Flacco did that they
didn't even entertain bringing him back. They bring in Jameis
Winston and they know deep down Joe Flacco is a
better quarterback than Deshaun Watson. They're treating Deshaun Watson as

(11:58):
if he's a rookie or Drake May like you know,
I don't know he's gonna play better. We're gonna put
him in there, give him a shot here. I mean,
this is Deshaun Watson. Yes.

Speaker 5 (12:10):
It feels like if you were a head coach and
that was your guy and you really believed in him,
you know, if you're like dog, trust me, okay, I
see it in practice, or you would give some type
of other I don't know, reasoning for a while, like no,
this is the guy. I believe in him more than
what we just heard. That feels more like, look ah,

(12:32):
he doesn't believe it.

Speaker 6 (12:33):
What do you want me to do?

Speaker 2 (12:34):
He doesn't believe it.

Speaker 6 (12:35):
It was more of a like, hey, look my hands
are tired. What do you want me to do?

Speaker 2 (12:37):
Yes? Yes, without saying he is saying right, hey, I
got no control over this.

Speaker 1 (12:44):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (12:45):
You know we spent all this money. He's not good.
Joe Flacco's a better quarterback. I mean, at some point,
do you admit your mistake? And in fairness to Deshaun Watson,
I know that he has been you know, the numbers
that he's been sacked and hit are pretty high, probably

(13:05):
leading the league. And I know for a fact that
you know, somebody who is affiliated in this situation told
me Deshaun does not want to run. He doesn't want
to run anymore because he's getting hit. He doesn't want to.
So you have a guy who years ago gave you
that dual threat and was held in high regard, and

(13:26):
he just has He's vacant when he's out there. It's
just there's no passion, there's no I mean, he's not
a leader out there. And I would think for two
hundred and thirty million dollars, I might get a little
bit of leadership out of just a little bit. But
I think Kevin Stefanski knows I'm the one that's going
to pay the price on this too as the head coach.

Speaker 8 (14:05):
Yes, don Would it be fair to ask Stefanski what
is the time frame exactly for getting better? Where does
this team go from here? If it continues to go
downhill at the quarterback position.

Speaker 2 (14:14):
I think you could ask him. I just don't think
he has he has no answers. The question is can
the Browns head coach bench his quarterback? And I don't
think the owner would allow it. I don't I think
they Now he might say, hey, we got to play ourselves.
They have too much talent. I mean, I could only

(14:37):
pin this so much on Nick Chubb not being there.
They have talent. They're a playoff team. Stefanski was Coach
of the Year. Joe Flacco was unbelievable, and now you
have this. But you know what, let me take a break.
We'll look at the other quarterbacking situations there eight seven
seven three DP show. We're back after this.

Speaker 2 (15:12):
Settle on our poll question Larry Fitzgerald and will join
us in an hour from now. Bob Costas was on
the call with the Royals beating the Yankees four to
two last night. I watched a lot of the Tigers
against the Guardians. That series tied up at a game apiece.
You got the Phillies and the Mets later today, Dodgers,
Padres coming up tonight. Also, the NHL season starts tonight,

(15:35):
and my Utah Hockey Club debuts. Can't wait. I want
to see the home and away jerseys that they have
or sweaters as they like you said, see you may
see I would keep I like Washington, the Washington Football Club,
I would have kept that. I just it so distinguishes

(15:57):
you from everybody else, like you got a unique name
and its new merchandise, like the Commanders. I know they're
playing well, but you know, but the Utah Hockey Club debuts,
I'm ready to go.

Speaker 9 (16:13):
Yes, Paul, it appears that the Utah Hockey clubbers UHC,
as old school fans call them. It appears that name
is temporary. Now they could stick with it. But there
was a lot of them. Remember there was like the
Blizzard and.

Speaker 2 (16:25):
The oh yeah, you know, they had quite a few
of them, the Squall or something like that. Yes, yeah,
I like UHC. But NHL starts tonight. Here's some numbers
for you. This Shaun Watson has started seventeen games since
the Browns traded six draft picks, including three first round
picks and gave him a fully guaranteed two hundred and

(16:46):
thirty million dollars deal. What you forget about the draft
picks in five games this season is QBR is twenty one,
lowest of any qualified passer. Now here's the situation when
you when you think about it, they should have been

(17:09):
in a situation where they go, you know what, maybe
we could take a chance on this guy. You know,
he might be creepy, borderline criminal with stuff that he
did to women. You know, he settled his lawsuits, got
a lot of talent. That's like, if you said, that's
the premise of let's take a chance on Deshaun Watson.

(17:30):
I understand that you might, but he wasn't a bargain.
So he had all the baggage and you got to
give up three first round picks and give him two
hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed. You weren't getting Patrick Mahomes. Yeah.

Speaker 6 (17:45):
See, it's like this dude's got a gajillion red flags.

Speaker 5 (17:48):
Just throw everything at him, Just give him, fully guaranteed
all the picks, whatever it takes to get him.

Speaker 2 (17:55):
It just you would take a chance on somebody like that. Well,
well I wouldn't. But you know, the Browns were desperate,
and that's why they had to give him two hundred
and thirty million guaranteed. But the fact you had to
give up these draft picks. The Texans didn't want him.
They wanted to get him out of the building.

Speaker 5 (18:13):
Yes see right, it's not like you you know, yeah,
like you know, we can get him for like fifteen
million real quick. All right, you want to give it
a shot, Okay, why not? You know what, if it
doesn't work out, then some egg on our face and
at least.

Speaker 6 (18:24):
It didn't cost us that much money or whatever.

Speaker 5 (18:26):
Yes, they did exactly the opposite of that.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
That's where you go. We'll take him off your hands.
You got to pay a large portion of his salary,
and maybe we'll give you a conditional draft pick, a
couple of conditional draft picks. By the way, Deshaun Watson
just settled the latest lawsuit, civil lawsuit. Now. The reason

(18:53):
why that's a big deal is because that could have
been the out for the Cleveland Browns. I think language
in his contract that if this had gone to trial,
then you know, maybe they could have gotten out from
underneath those next couple of years that are guaranteed. But
now that he's settled that, which of course he's going

(19:14):
to settle because he doesn't want to risk all this
other money. I mean, who knows what the payout is.
But that was the latest. I think that happened yesterday afternoon, Yes, PAULI.

Speaker 9 (19:24):
By the way, amongst the things the Houston Texans got
with the trade of Deshaun Watson, besides getting him out
of town, which was step one, you know, they got
Stephan Diggs in a trade off. One of the draft
pieces they had from that trade, they got Will Anderson,
the best defensive lineman in that draft. They got Tank
Dell and four other good starters.

Speaker 2 (19:44):
But yeah, it is. It is mind boggling where you go,
wait a minute, and when you throw in the draft picks,
that's where it's like, oh my god, Houston didn't want him.
Why would you want that guy in the building? And
then I thought he was going to go to Atlanta,
and then Cleveland gave him an offer he couldn't refuse,

(20:07):
all guaranteed, and then he just restructured his deal that
I think locks him in even further with the Cleveland Browns.

Speaker 9 (20:14):
Yes, PAULI, Yeah, Deshaun Watson's deal. This year, he's going
to make forty seven million. Next year he's going to
make forty six million. In twenty twenty six, he makes
forty six million. That is non negotiable. There's no way
out if they cut him in any way, the cap
hit each year would be seventy two million dollars. Whether

(20:35):
he plays or not, they can get out before the
twenty twenty seven season at best.

Speaker 2 (20:40):
See this is where I always wonder. You have businessmen
who make enough money to be able to buy a
football team or a baseball team, or a basketball team
or soccer team. But man, did they make some stupid decisions.
And you know, like David Tepper with Carolina, you make

(21:00):
emotional decisions. Business is about business. It shouldn't be about emotion.
When you know Jerry Jones has had some emotional decisions,
and those usually come back to haunt you. You got
to make a decision. I remember when the Patriots got
rid of Richard Seymour and send him to the Raiders,

(21:21):
and I went, oh my god, well they knew, let's
get rid of him a year early than a year late,
Lawyer molloy. I mean, they've had these moments where you're
getting rid of a lot of really good players, but
they make the right decision because it can't be emotional.

(21:42):
It's got to be business. And this is we got
to find a quarterback. Okay, and that's the best candidate,
a guy who was brought up on over twenty sexual
assault charges. Yeah, huh okay? And what are we getting

(22:02):
him for? Two hundred and thirty million dollars guaranteed? And
we have to give up three first round picks? Okay,
where do I sign? Who does that? Well? The Browns
do that? Seeton? Who else is on the poll question?

Speaker 6 (22:16):
So we know where you're voting.

Speaker 2 (22:17):
I got I.

Speaker 9 (22:19):
He's like a slam dug.

Speaker 6 (22:20):
You want to dive into Carolina at all?

Speaker 1 (22:22):
Or No?

Speaker 2 (22:23):
That's that's not a terrible situation. It's not no, no, no, no,
I don't think so. I think. I mean they're they're
not good. And yes, they did give up too much.
They moved up. They could have taken CJ. Stratt. Yeah
we know that, but I they could at least get
out from underneath that. I mean, you just made a mistake.

(22:46):
You know, you bought into him. He's not ready to play.
You don't have a good team around him.

Speaker 6 (22:50):
There are worse things in drafting the wrong guy. Yes,
it's not great.

Speaker 2 (22:54):
But yes, when you tie up two hundred and thirty
million dollars guaranteed, guaranteed and you throw in the draft picks,
now you've just decimated your franchise. I get it'll be
you know, five years to recover from something like that.
Four years to recover, and he can't play. If Deshaun

(23:17):
Watson was playing really well, let's say there were four
and one. Okay, still don't like the guy. But if
he's playing well, you acknowledge that I don't want HI
miss my quarterback. So what he's out there, he's playing,
he's playing well. Okay, he's not playing well, and you
send all those draft picks to a team that is

(23:38):
playing really well and could be a Super Bowl contender,
and you're on the hook for all of that money.
So there's no yeah, but there's not. You know, the
light at the end of the tunnel is an oncoming train.
Who else is on their seaton?

Speaker 6 (23:55):
Well, let's see.

Speaker 5 (23:56):
Speaking of wrapping up lots of money and a guy
with some question marks, how about the my Amy situation.

Speaker 2 (24:01):
Yeah, I don't like that one. Didn't like that one.
And I don't care if he's medically cleared and comes
back at that position. It's not a question of if,
But when it's just it's that's the way. It is
so not good. Who else New.

Speaker 6 (24:21):
York Football Giants.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Well, maybe it's just this year and that's it. You know,
they tried. I still think they're getting Davante Adams and
then maybe maybe. I mean, Aaron Rodgers really has to
look at Aaron Rodgers and say, hey, you know, I'm
part of the problem here. I've played poorly and you
know that that swagger, that attitude, he's not playing to

(24:51):
live up to that swagger in that attitude. He's been
part of the problem. Because I can look at and
you've got to be fair to the situation. When they
were playing poor who did we blame Zach Wilson, right, guy?
We were talking about the Jets and we blamed it.
We blamed Zach Wilson.

Speaker 5 (25:11):
If people are talking about too, I haven't looked this
up yet, but Zach Wilson and Aaron Rodgers having similar
numbers or at least scoring the same amount of points
through the first five weeks last year to this year.

Speaker 6 (25:22):
Yeah, that's not good. That's not great for Aaron, right.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
No, it's not. No, it's not. But you know, he
wanted his guys, and he got his offensive coordinator, and
he got a couple of wide receivers. I mean, you're
giving him everything that he wanted. He's got to produce.
He's got to be great. He can't just be Hey,
I'm Aaron Rodgers going to go out there and that
doesn't work anymore. He has been a disappointment and he

(25:46):
in large part should shoulder the blame for that offense.

Speaker 9 (25:49):
Yes, Pauline, one little thing about the New York Giants
on this poll question.

Speaker 6 (25:52):
Daniel Jones.

Speaker 9 (25:54):
He's had a good month or a good couple of weeks.
He's got six touchdowns and three picks. He's playing a
little better. They have to get out from him after
this year. If they bring him back next year, they
owe him a truckload of money.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
They have an.

Speaker 9 (26:06):
Easy out after the season. But it's almost like he's
back where he was two years ago, where he's playing. Okay,
but that's a must move on situation.

Speaker 2 (26:14):
Seeton, Did you bring up the Giants and I went
to the Jets right away?

Speaker 6 (26:18):
Yeah?

Speaker 2 (26:18):
Oh okay, Yeah, well, I can I go to let's
just say the city of New York. Yeah, Danny Dimes
has played better than Aaron Rodgers. It feels like he's
going to play just good enough, just good enough, where
you go.

Speaker 10 (26:37):
You know.

Speaker 6 (26:40):
That used to be a thing we did.

Speaker 9 (26:46):
That's a tape of me saying it.

Speaker 2 (26:53):
He's just good enough.

Speaker 9 (26:56):
But now you have to move on. I don't think
they do, because they well know his contract is if
you keep him on the roster, you owe him like
sixty million dollars the next two years.

Speaker 6 (27:06):
His last contract was that he's just good enough contract.

Speaker 2 (27:10):
And I didn't I said no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
I don't want that.

Speaker 6 (27:15):
We already did this. He's just good enough thing, move on?
Oh my god, you can't do that again.

Speaker 9 (27:21):
Yes, I have a bonus. I have a bonus awkward
not bad quarterback situation. So we were discussing bad quarterbacks situation. Okay,
this one is sets up to really awkward next year.
Sam Donald and JJ McCarthy in Minnesota because Sam Darnald
is not going to play next year. For if things

(27:43):
keep going this way for Sam Donald, he's going to
ask to get paid to some level, maybe like that
Baker Mayfield contract, and you have a rookie first round
draft pick as well. You have to The Vikings have
a good problem right now, but in February it could
be a problem.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
That's why when people say, oh, you didn't believe in
Sam Donald, the Vikings didn't believe in him. They drafted
JJ McCarthy, Like, don't tell me, Oh my god, you
know Sam Donald, nobody believed in him. The Vikings didn't
believe in him. They were getting him for insurance for
JJ McCarthy. It's a wonderful story, happy for Sam, but

(28:22):
they drafted JJ McCarthy. There was no hey, we got
a chance to get this guy in the fourth round.
This wasn't even a Jalen Hurt second round draft pickt
I mean, this is hey, we're bringing in we want
JJ McCarthy and Sam I think is going to be
a free agent. Is somebody gonna give him the bag?

(28:44):
As they like to say this, we need to come
up with a mid bag. You know, Baker Mayfield gave us.
He got the mid bag, and I think that's really
important for some of these quarterbacks. Sam Donald is not
a fifty million dollar, He's a thirty five. If he
continues to play. Well the mid bag. What's that bag?
The go yard? Is that that really fancy?

Speaker 1 (29:09):
Wow?

Speaker 11 (29:12):
Like he didn't get he didn't get like a Louis bag.

Speaker 2 (29:15):
No, no, no, he got a goy yard.

Speaker 11 (29:16):
He got like a Jan Sport.

Speaker 9 (29:18):
Oh he got a Columbia go yard.

Speaker 6 (29:21):
Yeah, that's great.

Speaker 11 (29:23):
That is great, or satchel that is it's not.

Speaker 2 (29:27):
A person's essential at Yeah, all right, so that that's
the pole question. Who has the worst situation there?

Speaker 6 (29:36):
Yeah, I mean we could still got it.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
You gotta take you gotta take Deshaun Watson out of there. Yeah,
I mean he's the winner. Ding ding ding ding ding
ding ding.

Speaker 5 (29:45):
Yeah, because the rest of them, like you throw lats
of Vegas in there, that's kind of similar.

Speaker 6 (29:50):
I don't know if the Saints can go in there too, actually.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
But I think Vegas will be fine. You know, they
need to rebuild there. You get rid of de Vone Adams.
I feel bad for Max Crosby, but they'll they'll get
a quarterback in there. I think that'll be. It feels like,
you know, Shador Sanders is going to end up with

(30:12):
the Vegas Raiders.

Speaker 6 (30:14):
They'll run through a few over the years they have
you just gotta get know. He's even trying to find
that guy for a while.

Speaker 2 (30:19):
But growing up, and they had Kenny Stabler and Darryl
la Monica. I mean it was always Raiders had always
a good quarterback. George Blandon was in there as well.
And that's a long time ago. But you know, you
have still bothered by a cold here, So I apologize
if I'm coughing here. Todd had thoughts and prayers for me,

(30:45):
and yeah, he reached out to make sure. DoD did
reach out last night. He said, how are you feeling?
And I said, I send him a e mooji of
a muscle like a flexed orm. Yeah, I said, I'm
doing I'm doing fine time. Thank you.

Speaker 12 (30:58):
Your emoji game is so funny, like, hey, Dan, I
just want to thank you for this opportunity. I'm going
to try my hardest and it's just from you a
thumbs up emoji.

Speaker 6 (31:06):
You get the smiling cowboy hat guy.

Speaker 2 (31:09):
That is true. Oh oh okay, yeah, which.

Speaker 11 (31:16):
Is a graduation from just a letter K when he
sends you.

Speaker 2 (31:19):
I know, but I do it to my children and
my wife. Just let you know that it's I just
don't have time to text I don't have I don't
I just don't want to do it. So if I
can send you an emoji that somehow encapsulates how I'm feeling,
that's what you're going to get. There's other ones that
I send too that are you know.

Speaker 11 (31:39):
Yeah, the wink one was a little weird and.

Speaker 2 (31:41):
I don't know why I did that. I don't like
it was one of those where I'm like, oh, let
me give him something different, and it was a wink,
like hey sailor.

Speaker 8 (31:52):
And it was totally out of context. It was about
like something a great catch that was made, the effort.

Speaker 2 (31:56):
Thank you, Tom. How about we take a break? Play
the is up next.

Speaker 5 (33:18):
Most people right now are just complaining that Cleveland is
by far the worst situation. It does not matter who
else you put out. That is true and it is
fair because theirs is so terrible. Who cares about the
other ones?

Speaker 2 (33:30):
Lucas in Texas, Hey Luke, what's on your mind? Hey Dan?

Speaker 13 (33:34):
Good morning, Good morning. You know you've alluded to this
a couple of times before, and I think it's just
it bears repeating based on the conversation jump and having today,
I think an extremely like an underrated play in NFL history.
You know a couple of years ago is when the
Texans went for that touchdown at the end of the year,
ended up winning a game that they weren't supposed to

(33:56):
the got the second pick, not the first, because I
think there's a little bit revisionist history that, you know, CJ.
Stroud was just somehow overlooked. I mean, the overwhelming consensus
as Texan fans were like, we lost out on the
chance to draft Bryce Young. So it just makes me think,
I know, I mean, I know it's easy to say
in the present, one situation is worse than the other,
but I was kind of thinking, what can you use

(34:19):
maybe five or ten years down the road, could you
look back and maybe say, where's the situation where one
team avoided one terrible quarterback situation and ended up hitting
the jackpot in the other the Texans getting rid of
Deshaun Watson and ending.

Speaker 2 (34:32):
Up with c J.

Speaker 13 (34:33):
Stroud, Or the Bears trading away a pick when they
could have drafted Bryce Young and instead ending up with
Caleb Williams.

Speaker 2 (34:41):
What do you think, Well, I go back to when
Peyton Manning was going to be drafted and the Colts
weren't quite sure if they were going to take Peyton Manning.
And that may sound crazy now, but at the time
they were consu hittering Ryan Leaf, and Ryan Leaf was

(35:03):
probably considered more talented athletically than Peyton, and Peyton hadn't
won a big game, couldn't beat Florida, and there were
from you know, somebody who was involved in this said
they were divided, a draft room divided. Now, could you
imagine what the history of the NFL would be like
if the Colts took Ryan Leaf and the Chargers ended

(35:26):
up taking Peyton? Man? What if Drew Bledsoe doesn't get
hit and knocked out by the Jets and Tom Brady
take I mean, there's moments here. What if Nick Saban
had a better quarterbacking situation with the Dolphins, he didn't
go with Breeze like they're you know, sports is littered

(35:48):
with oh my gosh, they almost or they could have,
and we tend to focus on what did happen, not
what could have happened. But you're right. I remember watching
c J. Stroud and I kept thinking, and now I
didn't like this. It's coded for black quarterbacks. In my opinion,
he can't process at the line of scrimmage. And I

(36:09):
was like, who is saying this? It just felt unfair
to c J. Stroud. All I know is, hey, when
I watched him play, he certainly processed when he got
to the line of scrimmage. And did that scout or
whoever it is, or how many other people said this,
do they stand by c J. Stroud can't process? And
I've heard this, you know, subsequently about other black quarterbacks.

(36:33):
Can they process at the line of scrimmage? And it's
usually I think it's predominantly black quarterbacks. Can they process?
And I'm like, this is coded here, I mean thinly,
but that a.

Speaker 6 (36:46):
Lot of not a lot of deciphering to rear.

Speaker 5 (36:48):
No code there, no, And I just you know, you
got hard to crack that one.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
You can throw that out there. You can just put
that out there and all of a sudden it becomes gospel.
I don't know who said it, what's this based on,
but if you and somebody said this to me. My
friend who is an NFL scout said, you know, you
could put that out there because you want him to fall.
You could put that out there and an agent could

(37:14):
put them like this is Hey, this is cutthroat, but
it's not fair to you know, some of these quarterbacks. Now,
maybe some can't process, but c J. Stroud looks like
Zach Wilson, doesn't look like he can process at the
line of scrimmage, right, But it felt like c J.

(37:35):
Stroud was labeled that way and you can't get out
from underneath that unless you play great. And now no
one questioned CJ. Stroud.

Speaker 12 (37:45):
Yes, yes, Mark, I felt the same way about c J. Stroud,
the same way I felt about Deshaun Watson. Like, wait,
they're not the first.

Speaker 11 (37:52):
Pick in the draft. Did you see what they did?

Speaker 2 (37:53):
Yeah? Wait on Clemson?

Speaker 11 (37:56):
Clemson, what he did against Alabama?

Speaker 12 (37:57):
And CJ. Stroud, what do he did against Georgia? That's
basically the Eagles defense. Now what he was doing against
Georgia in that National semi final.

Speaker 2 (38:05):
Yeah, you're right. Dave in Arkansas, Hi, Dave? What's on
your mind?

Speaker 10 (38:11):
They call me Pittsburgh Dave. And it's not going well.
It's five eight, it's to fourteen, soon to be laid
up to fourteen with ankle surgery, out of work to fourteen.
You know, it's not going well. And if you want
to talk about quarterback situations not going well, I you know,

(38:36):
we might be the poster child. Though if you've got two,
you don't have one right now. I am not seeing
enough from justin fields at all. I don't think he's
seeing the entire field. The defense just can't.

Speaker 2 (38:53):
Yeah, but it's an upgrade. It's an upgrade Dave over
Kenny Pickett. I mean it's not great, but you're really
relying on your coach and you're relying on your defense.
They're they're competitive. They'll probably have nine wins this year.
Maybe Russ comes back and plays for them. I do

(39:13):
think the quarterback room is upgraded from last year. I
don't know if Russ is going to be able to
recapture what he once was. I think fields does give
you the possibility of some dynamic plays. His whole thing
is just don't put the ball on the ground, you know,
don't don't have turnovers there. I mean that's all Tomlin preaches,

(39:38):
let's not beat ourselves here. But Russ, I think, is
in the on deck circle, you know, ready to come
back because what do you have to lose here? But yeah,
as far as the situation now, Bill Belichick said they
got the best situation right. That was a couple of
weeks ago. But always talking is the cost. Hey we

(40:01):
got a cheap quarterback room. Okay, you got anybody who
can play. I don't know, but it's it's cheap. I mean,
it could be like the Cleveland Browns got anybody can
play here, Deshaun Watson, Jamis Winston. No, but it's an
expensive quarterback room, especially for that guy. Pretty amazing though

(40:23):
that position down through history. There's no other position decisions
that are made in any other sport that compares to
drafting a quarterback or not.

Speaker 9 (40:34):
Yes, Pauline, I just saw one. How about this Pete
Carroll deciding, after signing Matt Flynn for thirty million dollars
to not even start him one game and go with
Russell Wilson out of nowhere?

Speaker 2 (40:44):
Yeah yeah, what if.

Speaker 9 (40:46):
He just says, you know, let's ease in, get Matt
Flynn in.

Speaker 2 (40:49):
He knew right away. Russ talked about that hour two
on the way one of the great receivers, Larry Fitzgerald
and Bob Costas will stop by our choo on the
way
