While supplies last eight seven to seven three DP. Show
operator Tyler sitting by. He'll take your phone calls. Good morning,
those watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, or the NBC
Sports Network. Coming up, we'll talk some college football. Lane
Kiffin is on the move, well, at least by private plane.
I don't know if he's going to take the LSU

(01:32):
or Florida job, but he and his family I think
they've been to Florida. I think they've been to LSU.
But for some reason they're gonna get on a plane
and take a tour, their college tour. If Lane is
going to leave Florida, Pat Forty from Sports Illustrated will
join us.

Speaker 3 (01:49):
Coming out.

Speaker 2 (01:50):
Paul skeins Cy Young Winner, Unanimous Cy Young Winner, he'll
join us, and Reggie Miller will stop by as well.
Cowboys roll the Raiders. They're now four five and one.
This is one of those you expect to win. The
Raiders aren't good, and if you look around the NFL,
there are a lot of teams to get tripped up

(02:11):
in these kind of games. So you did your what
you're supposed to do you took care of business. It's
not one of those.

Speaker 3 (02:17):
Yes. Now, if you beat the Eagles and you.

Speaker 2 (02:21):
Put up a couple of impressive games here, I thought
they were a playoff caliber team with Micah Parsons and
they might, you know, be on the doorstep of being
a playoff team. Quinn Williams was a great pickup for them,
and last night you saw George Pickens and Cede Lamb.

Speaker 3 (02:39):
They were great.

Speaker 2 (02:40):
Dak Prescott was great, and granted I'm going to grade
them on a curve because it was against the Raiders,
but still we've seen the Cowboys play down to, you know,
the Cardinals. Now I would say Carolina, but Carolina has
been a pleasant surprise this year, so I have to
be fair to them that they're not what they used
to be, that you know their quality. They went into

(03:03):
Green Bay and won. So it's not like we can
look at Carolina the way we look at Tennessee. But
if you're a Cowboy fan, you got what you needed,
an impressive win, and you know, sometimes you get these
trap games where you're gearing up for a bigger game
the Eagles, and you don't take care of business with
the Raiders here is Dak Prescott talking about the impressive

(03:24):
performance by George Pickens last night.

Speaker 4 (03:28):
He's an wonderful kind guy, special individual, elite, has a
great feel for the game, loves the game, plays the
game like a kid.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
I mean you when you.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
Watch him play, I'm sure right, the energy that the
celebrations like like, that's that's contagious, you know. And the discipline,
right that there is a part of that that we've
all got to tighten up. And GP knows that obviously
he responded to it, right, responded to the discipline by
the way that he came out, in the intensity he
played with and the effort he had. But he's a individual.

(04:00):
And you said, there's a balance to it, though.

Speaker 2 (04:03):
And you know, Dallas is going to score points, And
I was curious how often they score thirty points or more. Actually,
they've scored thirty three points or more twenty nine times
since the start of the twenty twenty one season, most
in the NFL over that span, and Dallas has five
games of at least thirty three points this season, tied

(04:25):
for most in the NFL. The question was going to
be their defense, and when they got rid of Michaeh Parsons. Now,
Quinn Williams is really good. When Quinn Williams is really good,
he is an all Pro type of defensive tackle. And
this is what they need. You need a couple of
guys who can help you because that secondary is not

(04:45):
very good. So the guys up front have to be
a whole lot better to make sure that you don't
have a shootout with every single game. But you got Philadelphia,
Kansas City, and then Detroit for Dallas. Now they have Minnesota.
They all so have the Chargers, Washington and New York.
All right, the Chargers are okay, offensive line is really bad. Washington,

(05:09):
we know, is not the same. In New York, I
guess Jackson Dart would probably be back for that. But
these next three games Philadelphia, it's a Sunday, Then Thursday,
they've got Kansas City, and then they've got Detroit. They're
at Detroit on December fourth. They host Philadelphia and they
host Kansas City. And Kansas City's got a couple of

(05:31):
games coming up. They got the Colts and you got
the Cowboys. And if you don't beat the Colts, we
might be talking about the Kansas City Chiefs not making
the playoffs. All right poll question Dylan in for Seaton,
What do we have all right?

Speaker 5 (05:46):
Dan, Well, we've got a few options. I know you
mentioned Lane Kiffin at the top of the show. If
you're Lane Kiffin, are you staying at Ole Miss, going
to Florida, going to LSU, or other?

Speaker 2 (05:57):
Well, I've said that after watching the documentary that ESPN
did on Lane Kiffin and his family in Old Miss.
I hope he stays there just for maybe his health,
mental health, physical health, getting in shape. And he's got
his family there. He and his ex wife I think

(06:18):
have reconciled, the kids are there.

Speaker 3 (06:22):
It just feels like there's something great there. Now.

Speaker 2 (06:24):
I know that you're always thinking as a coach, where's
the next job. It's kind of like when you buy
an apartment or you rent an apartment in New York,
you immediately think of the next apartment that you're going
to get before you even move in. And that's the
feeling I get with a lot of these coaches. Here
we are, I like it, we're doing well. I want
to find out the commitment and you know, granted the

(06:46):
sec you want to find out Old Miss. Are we
going to be in there with everybody else? We're going
to be spending like everybody else. By the way, James
Franklin went to Virginia Tech, that was a dance that
was going on for three weeks, and he probably we
wanted to know the same thing. How much money do
we have? We can win the ACC. The ACC is
not that good. We can be a playoff team, and

(07:08):
I think that's a really good pickup for Virginia Tech.
But as far as Lane Kiffin, I would say, just
because I've been around this for four decades, you got
to stop chasing. You know, at some point it's okay
to say this is where I want to be. I
like where I am, and it certainly sounded that way

(07:29):
when I watch the documentary, But now all of a sudden,
it's just weird, where now you have to say to
Lane Kiffin, Hey, you got until the end of the
month to decide if you still love us, and now
you're going to go Florida and you're going to go
to LSU. Pat Forty from Sports Illustrated will join us
to talk about that. But it is it's just that

(07:52):
this is the way of life in college athletics. Unfortunately.
I'm all for everybody getting what they want to get
they do. But you know here we are pitchforks. You know,
we're up in arms. These kids they get to transfer,
they got transfer portals and anil, they get a free education,

(08:12):
all of this. But it's okay if Lane Kiffin wants
to go because there's a buyout. The problem I have
is you recruit kids and then all of a sudden
we get upset because the kids are getting something now
as well. So if Lane goes, I'm sure it'll be
successful at LSU or Florida.

Speaker 3 (08:31):
And it won't be his last stop.

Speaker 5 (08:33):
Yes, pre Nio, though this wouldn't even be a conversation right,
Like it would just be a foregone conclusion that he
is leaving.

Speaker 3 (08:41):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
I mean, with Lane's past, yes, I would think that,
but I don't know. It's something struck me when I
watch this documentary documentary there on the mother Ship, and
it just seemed like somebody found peace. I get just, oh,
like this is where I belong. You know, your daughter's

(09:03):
in school. I think he's got another kid who's a
high schooler and his ex wife is I don't know,
just it felt like he's having fun. That's probably and
it's not like you settle because you can still be
in the playoffs, you can still compete for a national championship.

Speaker 3 (09:24):
You're doing that this year.

Speaker 2 (09:27):
I mean, I get LSU in Florida, there's a whole
lot of talent to choose from. He would worry me
about how LSU handled Brian Kelly. When you get the
governor involved in this and now the athletic director gets
kicked to the curb, and you know you're going to
pay him fifty four million dollars because Brian Kelly's not
going to give you a haircut. He's not going to

(09:47):
take a discount. James Franklin did that for Penn State.
But I don't think that's going to happen at LSU.
They've been trying to do some negotiations, but doesn't seem
like that's going to happen.

Speaker 3 (09:58):
What other pole question do you have?

Speaker 6 (10:00):
All Right?

Speaker 5 (10:01):
This one's from Paulie Off last night's game. Who's the
messiest situation at the moment in the NFL? The Raiders, Saints,
Titans or other.

Speaker 2 (10:10):
I'm not gonna say the Saints. I don't think it's messy.
They're just not relevant. It's not great, like the Jets
are messy. The Raiders are messy. Who else Paul I.

Speaker 7 (10:23):
Would throw out the Atlanta Falcons. Michael Pennix, the quarterback
is injured. He's done for the season. He didn't play
that well whilst healthy. It's another knee injury and as
good knee, and now your quarterback situation is back to
being in flux with two highly paid quarterbacks on your rast.

Speaker 2 (10:40):
I found it interesting when somebody says, oh, Michael Pennix,
he injured his good knee.

Speaker 3 (10:45):
Well, that's a good thing. I go, no, it's not well.

Speaker 2 (10:47):
Now he has two bad knees because the other one
and he had two surgeries on them. I think a
cl or mcl But yeah, that's a mess because is
the coach gonna survive? You do have some good talent,
you have a quarterback, you're panel a whole lot of
money too, and this might have been the year you

(11:08):
could win that division. So I would in Atlanta is messy.
Tennessee feels messy. Cardinals are messy. Cardinals are messy.

Speaker 8 (11:26):
Left.

Speaker 3 (11:26):
Yeah, that's a bad SIGNE that I forgot about you and.

Speaker 2 (11:31):
I there are times when we look at messy in
any irrelevant like messy means we're still talking about you.
The Saints area irrelevant. You just go Okay, Tyler shuck,
how did he do? Okay, that's it, Spencer Rattler, Is
he done playing?

Speaker 3 (11:48):
Okay? You just I don't. I don't think they register.
They're not on your radar.

Speaker 7 (11:54):
Yeah, Paulie, here's a team I did not put on
the list, the New York Jets. They stink they're not
playing for anything this year, but they seem to have
a plan for the future with draft picks. That makes
it feel less messy.

Speaker 2 (12:07):
Once again, as I've said many times on this show,
I want to know who's drafting. You can have a
lot of picks. Cleveland Browns have had a lot of
picks down through the years and they didn't do well.
Who's drafting and what is your game plan there?

Speaker 3 (12:25):
Now? Justin Fields is benched.

Speaker 2 (12:28):
Now you've got to get a quarterback, and you traded
away a couple of your you know, well known better players.
It just you can hit the reset button, but after
a while, you're not going anywhere. It's two steps forward,
three steps back. It feels like uh any other pole

(12:49):
questions there, Dylan. By the way, I'm battling a head
cold So if I seem a little loopy, it's because
I'm on some meds today, loopier.

Speaker 3 (12:58):
No, it's not good stuff at all. Flu game.

Speaker 2 (13:02):
This could be my Michael Jordan food poisoning game. Yeah,
I once again, it wasn't the flu game for Mike.
It was food poisoning.

Speaker 9 (13:12):
Was it food or was he going out having a few?

Speaker 3 (13:14):
Uh? Yes?

Speaker 5 (13:16):
Yeah, the old brown bag flew.

Speaker 3 (13:19):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (13:19):
Yes, how would that change people if they realized that
Mike was just hungover? Now he did have a great
performance even being hungover. But I changed that story just
a little bit there. Ah the flu game, he collapsed

(13:40):
into Scottie pipp in his arms.

Speaker 9 (13:43):
Yes, Marvon, he relates to the common man. A lot
of people are going to work hungover. Had a great performance. Man,
You see how Scotty did the accounting today.

Speaker 2 (13:54):
He's playing hurt. Now we get that sometimes, you know,
with somebody will be I'll see Dylan and I be like, oh,
playing hurt. Yeah, yeah, playing hurt.

Speaker 3 (14:02):
I've played. I've had a lot of flu games. Yes
you have, you just haven't performed the way Jordan did.

Speaker 10 (14:08):
Yes, Todd, Yeah, that n would have changed a lot
if you did something to yourself by some poor choices
before a big game as opposed to coming down with something.
It's a whole different world.

Speaker 3 (14:16):
I'm right here, Todd. Sorry, Yeah, Paul, It's.

Speaker 7 (14:19):
So funny that this has legs, this flu game story
for so long after the Last Dance documentary. There's a
big article I found out in Salt Lake City.

Speaker 3 (14:27):
Now.

Speaker 7 (14:28):
The accusation from Jordan's trainer was that it was a
local Park City pizza place that sabotaged the pizza to
take Jordan down. And they actually interviewed the owner of
the pizza place because he delivered it when he found
out who is for, and he said, of course, we
did not tamper with.

Speaker 2 (14:45):
All I know is I ran into two people in
Park City when I went out there a couple of
years ago.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
And as soon as they saw me, what is that?
Is it? High West Distillery? Yes, High West Okay.

Speaker 2 (14:58):
And these two guys came up and hey, we got
the real story on Jordan. And one of the guys
was a bartender in the complex where Jordan was staying,
and I think, you know, there are other people there
and it's playing cards and they had a different perspective,
a different story to tell with now, granted they're locals,

(15:21):
but they said that there.

Speaker 3 (15:23):
It wasn't a flu gag. I said, okay, fair enough.
Well one day there's a few stories that might come.

Speaker 2 (15:31):
Out, you know, with Michael going to play baseball? Why
did he go play baseball? Is there something else there?

Speaker 9 (15:38):
Yes, Marvin, the baseball thing really always gives me, because
would David Stern say, you know what our cash, Kyle
are our biggest export. No, you know what, he's been gambling,
So we're gonna sit him down for a year and
a half. You think David's you knew David Stern. You
think David Stern would ever think to get rid of
Michael Jordan in any capacity?

Speaker 2 (15:58):
Well, okay, once again, this is just theez are speculation
urban legend here. I don't know how we got to this.
Oh me playing hurt, Me playing hurt.

Speaker 3 (16:13):
That's true. All right, let me take a break here.

Speaker 2 (16:17):
When we come back, Pat Forty will join us and
we'll talk about Virginia Tech. Got a good hire here,
I think in James Franklin, what's the situation at Penn State?
And is Lane Kiffen leaving and if so, which job
does he think he'll take?

Speaker 3 (16:31):
We're back After.

Speaker 1 (16:32):
This, be sure to catch the live edition of The
Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am
Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 6 (16:43):
Hey, we're Cavino and Rich Fox Sports Radio every day
five to seven pm Eastern. But here's the thing. We
never have enough time to get to everything we want
to get.

Speaker 11 (16:51):
To, and that's why we have a brand new podcast
called over Promised. You see, we're having so much fun
in our two hour show. We never get to everything, honestly,
because this guy is over promising things we never have
time for.

Speaker 1 (17:04):
Yeah, you blubber Liam and me.

Speaker 6 (17:06):
Well, you know what it's called over promise. You should
be good at it because you've been over promising women
for years.

Speaker 11 (17:10):
Well, it's a Covino and Rich after show, and we
want you to be a part of it. We're gonna
be talking sports, of course, but we're also going to
talk life and relationships. And if Rich and I are
arguing about something or we didn't have enough time, it
will continue on our after show called over Promised.

Speaker 6 (17:24):
Well, if you don't get enough Covino and Rich, make
sure you check out over Promise and also Uncensored by
the way, so maybe We'll go at it even a
little harder. It's gonna be the best after show podcast.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
Of all time.

Speaker 11 (17:34):
There you go, over promising. Remember you could see on YouTube,
but definitely join us. Listen Over Promised with Covino and
Rich on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you
get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:45):
Pirates Pitcher, Paul Schemes, Cy Young Winner joins us in
an hour from now. Reggie Miller will stop by as
well Pat forty, Sports Illustrated Senior writer, host of Others
Receiving Votes podcast at SI dot com. He will be
at the Texas Georgia game on Saturday, then on site
for USC Oregon as well. Oh you went to Texas, Steorge,

(18:08):
I'm sorry. Then you'll be at the USC Oregon game.
You're moving around sort of like Lane Kiffin is. So
what do you make of this tour of the South
with Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 12 (18:20):
I need the private jet access that Lane and his
family has right now. It's brazen, it's I think, insulting
to the current Mississippi team, but it's Lane Kiffen. And
Lane loves to toy with people's emotions, loves to grandstand,

(18:43):
loves to be out in front of whatever's going on.
I think he thrives on chaos to would agree, And
so sending your family to Florida and to LSU when
there's zero points zero percent chance that that's not going
to become a big public deal is pretty on brand
for Lane. But I mean, if I'm an Old Miss fan,

(19:03):
if I'm an Old Miss player and you've bought in
for this season that's the best the school's had in
sixty years, and your coach's family's out doing this, I'd
be a little bit ticked.

Speaker 2 (19:15):
Yeah, I would want to ask my coach. I would
want to say, are you all in with us?

Speaker 3 (19:21):
Right? And I think that's fair to ask.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
If the captain's got together with Lane to say, hey,
are you all in with this? This feels like and
you would know better than me, Pat, I have no information.
Maybe somebody's agent leaked that Lane's family was going to
LSU and going to Florida. Maybe then you go back
to Ole Miss and boost the offer. I mean, this

(19:45):
is college football today?

Speaker 12 (19:48):
Well, it sure is. And that's the thing. The agents
have massive powers.

Speaker 3 (19:51):
Agents.

Speaker 12 (19:52):
Jimmy Sexton the most powerful of all of them, and
Jimmy's not above playing hardball. And I think if he
feels like, you know, this is something that's going to
help us get a better deal than sure, I wouldn't
be surprised by that at all. You know that that
is how things work in a college football ecosystem. Dan that,

(20:14):
as you know, the hiring cycle is completely ridiculous and
stupid and unfolds during the season, and it doesn't matter
if you're having a great season, You're still going to
get caught up in it if you are a coach's
who's being wanted here. And I just have never quite
understood the tolerance level for this. I actually asked Greg

(20:35):
Sankee on Saturday, he was at Texas Georgia. I said,
you know, any problem with within your conference with schools
coaching coaches during a season? And it's like the best
season Almoss has had in decades, And he's like, well,
I control it. I can control and I can't control that,
but I think they could perhaps exert a little more

(20:55):
control on how the hiring cycle works.

Speaker 3 (20:59):
Virginia Tech. Came Franklin, what do you think of that partnership.
I like it.

Speaker 12 (21:03):
I think it's good. I think it's good for both,
you know, Franklin his biggest problem with Ohio State and Michigan.
Guess what they're not in the ACC and nobody liked
them is in the ACC, especially with Clemson and Florida
State currently in the shape.

Speaker 3 (21:19):
That they're in.

Speaker 12 (21:20):
And the program with the third most ACC titles this
century is Virginia Tech behind Clemson, Florida State. They've won
four of them. That's a good program when they're up
and going. They got a little outdated, They got a
little bit behind, maybe in terms of compensation model for players.
But they say they're all in now and James Franklin

(21:44):
can win you ten games? Absolutely, Can he win eleven twelve?
We'll see. But in that league, I think you got
a better chance to do it. And in that league
he got a better chance to finish one or two
and go to the playoff.

Speaker 3 (21:55):
What's Penn State doing?

Speaker 12 (21:58):
That's a good question, you know. I think they're looking
in a lot of different areas. You know, I think
Signetti would have been probably the first option there, but
but he quickly took himself out of it. I don't
think Matt Ruhle was a super attractive option to begin with.
He's taken himself out of it a lot of talk
about assistant coaches. Brian Hartline at Ohio State, possibly Joe

(22:20):
Brady from the NFL. I was with the Buffalo Bills,
uh Eli Drinkwitz maybe from Missouri. So they're they're options there,
but that one's been maybe a little more quiet than
the SEC searches.

Speaker 2 (22:34):
What about the other job openings. What do you got Arkansas, Ucla,
Oklahoma State?

Speaker 3 (22:39):
Yeah, yeah, all of those.

Speaker 12 (22:42):
You know Arkansas again, that was one where Rent lastly
made a lot of sense, but he's taken his name out.
I think Alex Golish at South Florida has done a
good job there could be in play possibly at an Arkansas.
He was the offensive coordinator for Josh Iipel at Tennessee.
Ucla is an into I'm not sure where they're at
out there. I still think that could be an attractive job,

(23:05):
but they've been so far behind from a money standpoint
that how much do they want to catch up? We're
gonna find out. Oklahoma State been a lot to talk
about some coaches from Texas possibly going there, and that
makes sense from a recruiting standpoint.

Speaker 3 (23:21):
Eric Morris at North.

Speaker 12 (23:22):
Texas who's having a great season ten and one and
plays an entertaining offense some people of that nature.

Speaker 2 (23:29):
We're talking to Pat forty, Sports Illustrated senior writer The
Serkesian Rumors.

Speaker 3 (23:35):
Diana Mussini on.

Speaker 2 (23:36):
Her podcast talked about that his people are exploring or
at least putting feelers out there for the NFL. What
do you make of that, especially if they don't make
the playoffs.

Speaker 12 (23:48):
Yeah, I mean, it wouldn't be shocked if he's at
least going to look at it. And I would trust
Diana Rossini's reporting on that. But yeah, I don't think
Texas is like fed up with Steve Sarkisian to the
point of like please go. I don't think they've reached
that point. This season's definitely been a disappointment. You start
number one, you're now seven to three, you're probably out

(24:10):
of the playoff. Maybe if you beat Texas.

Speaker 3 (24:13):
A and M you can reverse that, but.

Speaker 12 (24:18):
I would say next year would be a critical mass
year for him. And here's the question there, Dan, if
you are pretty well tethered to Arch Manning and you
don't think Arch Manning is act good, maybe you're like, Okay,
this might be time to get outstead of going through
year two with Arch being just an okay, quarterback and

(24:38):
the blame coming back on you.

Speaker 3 (24:40):
How important is the USC Oregon game?

Speaker 12 (24:43):
Very You know, Oregon's in great position, but USC is
pushing to try to get into the playoff. They only
have the two losses ones at Notre Dame, so their
resume is not bad.

Speaker 3 (24:56):
They need a big.

Speaker 12 (24:57):
Skin and certainly or winning at Eugene would would provide
that tough place to win. Indiana did it, but historically
very hard place to win. Lincoln Riley could use it.
You know, he's he's had a good year. It had
been a downward trend from his first year until this season.

(25:18):
Maybe reversing that now. A big way to reverse it
is to win this game, get finished ten to two
and make the playoff.

Speaker 2 (25:24):
Has he bought himself another year no matter what the
outcome is this weekend?

Speaker 12 (25:29):
Yeah? Yeah, mostly because he's too expensive. I mean, is
his buyouts astronomical? And I think it's easier it's still
on top of that because they're they're eight and two
and a week you know, there should worse be nine
and three in the regular season close to the playoff chase.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
That sort of thing.

Speaker 12 (25:46):
Have gotten over some of the shortcomings that we've seen
year after year from him, so I think there's definite
signs of improvement and they've got a big recruiting class
coming in for next year.

Speaker 3 (25:56):
Safe travels, Pat, thanks for joining us my pleasure. Dan,
thank you, Pat.

Speaker 2 (26:00):
Sports Illustrated senior writer, host of Others Receiving Votes podcast
at SI dot com. He'll be at the USC Oregon game.
A couple of phone calls in here Chris and Syracuse
leads us off. Good morning, Chris.

Speaker 13 (26:13):
Hey, Thank you, Dan Hey. A couple of questions for
you if you are having your Jordan flu game today,
which stand Nett would be your Scottie Tippin helping you
out of the studio at noon? And also, the consensus
when Michaeh Parson's trade went down was that the Cowboys
were the clear losers in the deal. With the move
the Cowboys have made and the money they've saved to
maybe sign guys like George Pickens next year, and the

(26:35):
picks they still have, you think in a year or
two the Cowboys could be seen as winners or at
least a wash in the deal.

Speaker 2 (26:42):
Yes, I do, But are you going to pay George
Pickens now He's in the last year of his contract.
You're going to pay him ce d Lamb money. That's
a whole lot of money you got tied up and
your quarterback. Yeah, the Michael Parsons. Look, I get Michael
Parsons at that price, that price point. I didn't want

(27:02):
him for, you know, forty seven million dollars, but you
could have had him for thirty five million dollars if
you were proactive, you knew you wanted to sign him,
then you could have signed him. And I do think
they're a better team with Michaeh Parsons than Quinn Williams,
although I do like Quinn Williams a lot. There there's
who else is like Michaeh Parsons, three or four players

(27:25):
maybe you know, that's just a difference maker. And that
Green Bay defense is great now they were really good
before he got there. Now they're great. But yeah, I
think that this turned out to be a positive here.
But you did give up draft capital to bring Quinn
Williams in.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
Yeah, Paulling.

Speaker 7 (27:44):
The good thing for the Cowboys. They have Quinn and
Williams under contract for the next two years at twenty
two million per year, which is relatively fair for guy
of his stature.

Speaker 3 (27:54):
Zach and Knoxville Zach, what's on your mind?

Speaker 8 (27:58):
ADP, Thanks for taking my call.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
Well, I just wanted to correct.

Speaker 14 (28:02):
You yesterday he had the first name right, but Jeremiah
Smith is the best player in college football. But just
wanted to say that you had that pull correct question
yesterday about why you're watching the game last night and
just seeing the inspired performance of the Cowboys coming together
after the tragic loss of Marshawn neland that's why I

(28:22):
watched sports, people of all different backgrounds coming together for
a common goal and just an escape from everyday reality.

Speaker 8 (28:28):
So I just wanted to throw that out there.

Speaker 2 (28:30):
Oh, so you're saying that the best player in college
football is named Jeremiah, but it's Jeremiah Smith, not Jeremiah Love.

Speaker 8 (28:37):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (28:38):
Okay, all right, I'm not going to argue with it.

Speaker 2 (28:42):
I think Jeremiah Smith at Ohio State has hurt because
from the standpoint of they're going to try to make
sure he doesn't beat the opposition. Jeremiah Love is still
going to get the ball. And you got another running
back who's really good and he's just had more splash
plays than anybody and he's really good, really good.

Speaker 3 (29:03):
But it's the running back position.

Speaker 2 (29:05):
And here we are again, because running backs in the
first round often treated like a football faux pas. Where
you go, man, we can't pass up that talent. Jon
Robinson in Atlanta, Jamir Gibbs in Detroit, and then Vegas
takes Ashton Genty. Now I was all for that said
prior to the draft, that's where I was hoping he

(29:25):
would go. It gives Geno Smith kind of a safety valve,
somebody who can kind of move the chains a little
bit there, and he was very exciting at Boise State. Well,
he's nineteenth in the NFL and rushing yards sixteen in attempts.
The problem I have is if you're going to draft
somebody that high, then use him. He had six carries

(29:49):
for seven yards. Why are you drafting him?

Speaker 3 (29:55):
Now?

Speaker 2 (29:55):
I probably would have thrown the ball to Brock Bauers
twenty times last night. But in today's NFL you are
seeing teams that are using their running back and you know,
you get that running back wide receiver there. He should
be having twenty to twenty five touches unless they made
a mistake. But I'd like to see Ashton Genty be

(30:19):
able to get more touches I think that that's that's
the one thing that I was noticing. Well, there's a
lot of things I noticed with the Raiders where you're like,
oh my god, Gino Smith's regressed here.

Speaker 3 (30:32):
And I did think they'd be a playoff caliber team.

Speaker 2 (30:38):
I thought Pete Carroll, Max Crosby, Rock Bauers, Geno Smith
has played well. I got Ashton Genty, Okay, I got
something to work with here, and then I realized it's
not working, not working at all.

Speaker 3 (30:52):
Yeah, Paul, Pro.

Speaker 7 (30:53):
Football Focus, does you know mid season reports on different
positions in the sport they had the Vegas rate offensive
line ranked the second.

Speaker 3 (31:01):
Worst in the NFL this year in production. Yeah, second worst.

Speaker 2 (31:05):
That's always where I would go if I if I
have a high draft pick, unless I'm sold on the quarterback.

Speaker 3 (31:13):
You know that he's that's our guy. We got our guy.

Speaker 2 (31:16):
Can't miss with this guy, well, you can always miss.
I would go offense or defensive line, preferably offensive line.
Everything starts there. That dictates everything. If I have an
offensive line that can control the ball, my defense isn't
on the field. When they do come on, you know
they they're they're gonna have the energy. It's not like,

(31:39):
there's gonna be sustainable drives for the opposition. You're gonna
you're gonna negate that. But my offensive line dictates everything.
You win in the trenches, high school, college, pro, you
gotta have good linemen, and that's where I would invest.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
Now the running back sometimes, and I was all for.

Speaker 2 (31:59):
Sakuon Bark for the Giants because I thought, you know what,
Eli Manning has got his safety valve there, and it
never worked out.

Speaker 3 (32:06):
It worked out for Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (32:09):
Bjon Robinson, his coach says he's the best player in football.
Why hasn't he been able to showcase that. Kristian mccaffery's
having a really good year. I think he's second for
Offensive Player of the Year. But whenever he's healthy, he's great.
It's just that running back is always tricky. And then
you got Jeremiah Love from Notre Dame. Might be a

(32:32):
top fifteen pick, but we might be talking about him
next year at this time and saying, did somebody get
a great pick or did they make a mistake.

Speaker 3 (32:42):
It's the running back position, yeah, Pauling.

Speaker 7 (32:44):
It's like the Lion's taking Jamiir Gibbs earlier than people
thought in that draft. But they already had a good
offensive line in place when he showed up there. They
had pine soul, They had a good offensive line that
he walked into. He didn't walk in like Ashton Genty
fighting for his life to get out of the backfield.

Speaker 9 (32:59):
Yes, And it's always easier to find a quality running
back than a quality offensive lineman. You can find a
good fast a he's five ten, two twenty in Karuna
four to three. Those guys are everywhere, and you've seen
that with the Chiefs. What Isaiyah Pacheco? So I could
pick up a quality running back in the late rounds
of the draft, well, like.

Speaker 3 (33:17):
Rico Dowdell, like he's a really good running back. Yes, Dylan, But.

Speaker 5 (33:23):
I feel like the Patriots did a good job of
this this year where they drafted Will Campbell in the
first round and Treveon Henderson and they started featuring Henderson
like only a few weeks ago.

Speaker 3 (33:33):
But they're running all over people.

Speaker 2 (33:34):
You got to control the line of scrimmage. As I've
pointed out many times. As great as Mahomes is and
maybe he's the second greatest quarterback of all time, what's
happened when his offensive.

Speaker 3 (33:44):
Line isn't good he is mortal.

Speaker 2 (33:49):
In those two Super Bowls he lost, He got humbled
because he had no protection whatsoever. Any great quarterback will
tell you you give me protection. I like my chances,
especially with Mahomes. But we've always looked at that offensive
line and it's like, oh boy, and it was, you know,
on display again last year it was on display against

(34:12):
Tampa Bay. The great ones still need a great offensive
line or a good offensive line. All right, we'll take
a break. More phone calls coming up. Our play of

Snap the Prescott back steps up in the pocket deep
to the middle, clop by Pickens of the circles.

Speaker 15 (34:51):
Not to loves that twenty fifteen ten cuts right clutch
down the laders just quit run after its He's an
incredibly surgical cut and about the seven yard line. And
then after running it is for the touchdown brows the celebrations.

David in Ohio, Hi David, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (35:39):
Hey?

Speaker 4 (35:40):
Dan?

Speaker 8 (35:40):
I hope you feel better today. I got two quick
things for you.

Speaker 16 (35:42):
First, are you sitting next to Todd on the route
to Las Vegas? Second? Did the day Lab headphones come
with noise canceling capabilities?

Speaker 3 (35:51):
Thank you, Thank you, David.

Speaker 2 (35:52):
Yes, my Jaylab headphones they have noise canceling. I call
it Todd canceling. But Todd is not sitting next to me.
I think I may have picked up his cold and
uh gonna be a tough flight.

Speaker 3 (36:08):
But yeah, you're not near me.

Speaker 2 (36:10):
I don't think I'm not Okay, That's usually what I
ask as soon as I get to the airport, can
you tell me where that gentleman is sitting?

Speaker 10 (36:18):
I think your requested I take a different flight.

Speaker 2 (36:20):
No, no, but you are taking a difference, right, yes,
oh good, yes, Stili, Well.

Speaker 5 (36:29):
Dan, I believe we are on the same flight, so
I will happily step into the Todd roll for this trip.

Speaker 2 (36:35):
No, now, no, let's you know, let me miss you,
like be away from me and then I could miss you.

Speaker 5 (36:44):
Absence makes the heart griff on.

Speaker 3 (36:45):
Or something like that. Yeah, that would be nice, yes, Marvin.

Speaker 9 (36:50):
On the way to Order Dame, every time Todd would talk,
Seaton would go, where are you sitting? Just so he
made sure he wasn't sitting next to him.

Speaker 3 (36:59):
Well, Todd was on with that trip.

Speaker 2 (37:01):
Yes, he was like, sometimes you get Friday fritzy and
it could be on a Tuesday, and uh that that
that's that's a long flight to Vegas. You know it's
five hours and then you're taxi. I mean it's it's
it's a full day.

Speaker 3 (37:15):
Yes.

Speaker 7 (37:15):
People are asking on social media if Todd feels guilty
for giving you his horrendous cold.

Speaker 10 (37:23):
I don't know if I gave you my cold. I've
been trying to keep my distance from her, but I'm
covering my mouth. I went to the bathroom every ten
minutes to make sure go into the outside the studio
to make sure I'm not near anybody if I feel
a cough coming on.

Speaker 3 (37:34):
Well, and I thought you said your.

Speaker 10 (37:36):
Wife was sick a while ago, So why why am
I eematically being blamed.

Speaker 3 (37:39):
No, she's love sick.

Speaker 10 (37:40):
She's love sick. I must have missed her.

Speaker 3 (37:42):
And yes, she's love sick. Got it?

Speaker 2 (37:43):
Yes, yeah, whatever it is, it's uh, it's going around.

Speaker 3 (37:48):
As they like to say.

Speaker 2 (37:49):
So, I got a head cold and uh and a
sore throat.

Speaker 3 (37:53):
Oh boohoo? Okay, Uh.

Speaker 2 (37:56):
Jake in Buffalo, Hey Jake, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 8 (38:01):
Hey Dan? Before you guys had to Vegas, I wanted
to give you some NFL comparisons for the top four
F one teams and then clarify a couple of F
one words for you guys.

Speaker 3 (38:09):
Okay, great, max Versteffan and Red Bull.

Speaker 8 (38:12):
Are like the Chiefs. He was the new kid that
came in and knocked off the goat, and now he's
in the middle of a dynasty. He's a little down
this year, but he's still great and has a slim
chance at winning. Lando. Norris and McLaren can think of
the Lions. They were awful for a long time. The
team has turned it around, but their drivers are still
looking for their first championship. Lando's very close to securing it,

(38:32):
but he's made some mistakes, so he's trying to avoid
being like the Bills and giving it away at the end. Marchadies,
you can think of the Patriots. They were beaten by
the newest dynasty. The face of their franchise left been
down for a couple of years, but they got new
talent and they look like they're back on track.

Speaker 3 (38:47):
And then the.

Speaker 8 (38:47):
Dallas Cowboys of F one would be Ferrari. They haven't
won in almost twenty years, but they still get tons
of media attention and are forced into every conversation just
because they get clicks. And then a couple of words,
real quick, it's not a race, pres not a track,
it's a circuit. And then this one's for Fritzy pole
position is the driver who qualified first, not what he

(39:08):
was thinking it means.

Speaker 10 (39:10):
And I was thinking that, So I appreciate the clarification.

Speaker 2 (39:13):
Yeah, thank you, Jake. I'm ready to go now. Lewis
Hamilton's with Mercedes, I believe. Oh Ferrari, Yeah, okay, because
he would get clear. He just left Mercedes to go
to Ferrari. Yeah, okay, and Max Versoppin was unbeatable there
for a couple of years.

Speaker 3 (39:33):
It felt like he had a run.

Speaker 5 (39:34):
There would be like going into the race, he would
be like minus six hundred pretty much every week to win.

Speaker 7 (39:41):
Yes, this might be uh rhetorical. Is f one driver
the peak of luxury sports job? The coolest sports job?
It seems like they got everything. They get paid a
lot there, very famous. If you work for Ferrari, you
probably have a a gradge full of Ferraris.

Speaker 3 (40:02):
Yeah. I don't know what they make. There's danger right now. Yeah,
what do they make? Fifteen one hundred million a year?

Speaker 5 (40:09):
It definitely varies, but like the high end is very high.
And there's only ten teams and drivers for a team,
so it's a much smaller pool than most.

Speaker 2 (40:18):
Well, we're going to hit the ground and they're going
to know we're in town and we mean business when
it comes to Formula one.

Speaker 3 (40:23):
Yes, Marvin, did you pack a white suit? It's a
linen suit. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (40:28):
Yeah, I'm going to make sure that I I'm ready
to go when I go to the pit Bull concert
on Friday night.

Speaker 3 (40:32):
All Right, I said, if pit Bull comes on the show,
then I'll go see his show.

Speaker 2 (40:40):
I mean, that's only fair. Alex in North Carolina, Hi, Alex.

Speaker 16 (40:47):
Hey, Dan's five eleven calling about my Virginia Tech Hokies man, hoping.

Speaker 17 (40:57):
You can give me a little help here. Hired James Franklin. Man,
it seems great on the surface, but then I started
going back and looking at Power five coaches who've been
fired over the last ten fifteen years, and man, it's
it looks pretty bleak when you go back and look
at that list. Except for Lane Kiffin.

Speaker 8 (41:19):
There's some big names on there that never.

Speaker 16 (41:21):
Really did anything again. I mean, you know rich Rod's
got a chance.

Speaker 2 (41:25):
Yeah, but you can't be picky Alex. What are you,
guys three and six? You're in the ACC. You can
win the Accuh Franklin, Is he gonna get you ten wins? Yeah,
he can get you ten wins. It's been a decade
since you have ten wins. You can't be picky Franklin.

(41:46):
That's I think that's a really good hire. Coming up,
we'll talk to Paul Schemes of the Pirates, talk to
him about those reports that he wants to go to
the Yankees. Reggie Miller will stop by as well. Our
two on the way right after this

Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant.
