Dan reacts to the dispatching of Kansas by Arkansas, which also sets up a showdown between St. John's Rick Pitino and Arkansas's John Calipari. A caller tries to bring up "east coast bias" and the Dan discusses how that's just not true anymore for the NCAA Tournament. Memories of when Georgetown was cool.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
Made it to a Friday. Glad to have you on board.
Ready to go. Paul, he's out today. Dylan moved up
into his seat. The King of comedy, Fritzie is here
seat in Marve years. Truly, it's a meat Friday, and
I believe we're having Chinese food. I've not seen the menu.
Don't know if that constitute says a meet Friday. Maybe

(00:25):
somebody could let me know what the menu is going
to be, as we always do on a Friday, to
let the audience live vicariously through us with what we're having.
Chris Weber, Hall of Famer, will join us. We also
talked to the Pirates pitcher Paul Skeins, the rookie of
the year. His rookie card just sold for more money
than he makes in his salary this year. He is

(00:47):
supposed to make a little under nine hundred thousand, and
his rookie card just went for over a million dollars.
He'll stop by a little bit later. On some interesting
games last night. Mckne stayed over Clemson they had a
big lead held on for Dear Life and Drake over
Missouri as well games coming up. You got Duke against

(01:09):
Mount Saint Mary's, Florida's in action as well Alabama Michigan State.
And then on Saturday we get the showdown between John
Caliperi Arkansas against Rick Patino and Saint John's which will
be very spicy as the winner will go to the
Sweet sixteen eight seven to seven three DP Show Email

(01:32):
Good morning. If you're watching on peacock, thank you for
downloading the app. You can follow along with our bracket challenge.
It's going on live right now at Fox Sports Radio

or parents, and go to Rapid Radios dot com for
sixty percent off free shipping. We'll get phone calls eight
seven to seven three DP Show operators sitting by. We'll
come up with the poll question, Play of the Day,
stat of the Day. All of that forthcoming. Any other

(02:15):
headlines here. Steph Curry got banged up a little bit,
sat out the second half against the Raptors. Alex Ovechkin.
The Grade eight is now seven away from passing Wayne Gretzky.
So the Grade eight has eight hundred and eighty eight
career goals, seven away from Wayne Gretzky. Don't know if

(02:36):
it's headline worthy. It is interesting that Bronnie James had
seventeen points and five assists in thirty minutes of work
in a loss to Milwaukee. Take that, steven A Smith.
Bronnie is back and better than ever. Yes, Marvin, but
as a father, I don't know if steven A is

(02:58):
going to say the same thing to Bronni or lebron
about playing his son last night against Milwaukee. I mean,
after all, was it he playing against Dame Lillard. I
don't know if Bronni got lit up, But you know
it's a nice showing, respectable showing for him. You got
a little bit of run there, and they're holding their own.
That's the most important thing with lebron out. Just kind

(03:20):
of stay at around five hundred with him out of
the lineup, and then when you get him back, then
maybe you can start to close in on maybe a secure,
a more secure playoff spot. Yes, Marvin, and.

Speaker 3 (03:32):
You'll take seventeen points from any fifty fifth pick in
the NBA draft. Yes, you'll take us if you're fifteen.
If your late second round pick score seventeen points at
the NBA game, all right, maybe we could do something
with him.

Speaker 2 (03:45):
The Big ten is four and oh in the tournament
so far, Big East three and Oh SEC is four
and three. You have the ACC at one and two,
Mountain West Atin two. You know, this is where you
have the turf war about whose conference is better? Is
this help with North Carolina that? Hey, you know, look
at the schedule we played and then all of a sudden,

(04:06):
you go, you lost to Clemson, and Clemson just lost
to McNeese State, although McNee State they were far quicker.
You saw that in the first half. And then all
of a sudden Clemson started to come to life, down
ten late, came back to close it to two, and
ended up losing. And you know, you have McNee State's

(04:26):
coach who is already going to move on and take
another job at NC State. And we were talking about
this when a coach says, you know, I hate to
see a coach when he has to lie. When Roy
Williams was at Kansas and everybody knew he was going
to North Carolina, but he couldn't say, Hey, I don't
want to take away from my kids. I just want
to focus on the game. I get it. But you know,

(04:50):
in this day and age, it feels like everybody is
coming or going players, coaches, and at least with Will Wade,
who was at LSU before he got caught up in
a scandal, has done a really good job at McNee
State and he's taking another job, but he's staying on
to coach the team, probably taking some players with him

(05:12):
when he goes to NC State. It's just the landscape.
It's not fair. Players want to transfer. This is basically
coaches transferring. It's a coaching transfer portal. But he's at
least upfront with you know, the fan base, his players.
Let's make something happen here in the tournament. Yeah, yeah,

(05:34):
I mean I think I love that. It's the idea
of being upfront and being like, you know, at the
end of this year, I'm out. If this goes well,
I'm going to leave this year, and maybe a couple
of you guys, come with me, But why don't we
go try and get one? Why don't we try to
make a run?

Speaker 3 (05:48):
I love that.

Speaker 2 (05:49):
Well, you have players who are going to be leaving
that are playing in the tournament, and he's just at least,
you know, at least there's transparency that yes, I am leaving. Now,
the school could have said, hey, we don't want you
to coach our team. You know, you go back to
Bill Frieder at Michigan. If you're old enough to remember,
he was going to I think Arizona State, and then

(06:11):
I think Bo schen Beckler was the ad and he said, no,
I want a Michigan man coaching our team, and so
Bill Fraeder went to Arizona State. Yes, that's why I
like so much of this.

Speaker 4 (06:23):
Sometimes in sports becomes we're just sort of waiting for
the right cliched answer, and then we check the box
and be like, that's what you're supposed to say. Good job,
you handled that, right. I hated the coach. Come on, guys,
we're just trying to focus on the game here. Okay,
this is the right time it plays for this where
coaches knowing they're leaving would throw it back on the media.
And be like, how dairy, shame on you for even

(06:45):
asking the question. This is not the time or place like, dude,
like you're lying. Everybody knows you're lying. Those and then
we would be like, oh see he handled it right.
That's what you're supposed to do. It's crazy.

Speaker 2 (06:55):
Arkansaw knocked off Kansas. So John Caliperi first year at
Arkansas and that ends Kansas's Kansas is ncaa record streak
of seventeen consecutive wins in the round of sixty four.
Here's one for you, though. Kansas is the first preseason
number one to lose in the round of sixty four

(07:15):
since Kansas in two thousand and five.

Speaker 5 (07:23):
Stall of the Day, Stalla Today, stantaa day, Stanna today.

Speaker 6 (07:29):
This is the stant of the Day.

Speaker 2 (07:34):
Brought to you by Panini America, the official trading cards
of this program. So that sets up the Rick Bettino
facing John Caliperi matchup, and these two don't always see
eye to eye. Here's Patino, Saint John's head coach, on
facing John Caliperry.

Speaker 3 (07:53):
I've always had.

Speaker 7 (07:54):
Great respect for John. I've always said I told a
team we have not seen this type of size and
this type of athleticism all year. We've not seen that
create as a seven two center, but they have multiple guys.
Athleticism wise, we haven't seen this this year, so we
know what we're up against. Obviously, they had a lot

(08:15):
of injuries, that's why they opened up BOO and five.
But they got it together right now. And if they
I don't know where they finished in the SEC, eighth,
ninths in the SEC, but if they finished eighth and
ninth what I watched today, I'm glad we're on the
SEC because that's the talent level and that conference is
amazing to me.

Speaker 2 (08:32):
All Right, So everybody's playing nice right now, but I'm
sure that you'll get and maybe John Caliperry will talk
about their relationship and I don't know, like when it
went sideways between these two, but you know, it feels
like competition, you know, coaching at Kentucky. John's done a

(08:54):
nice job at Arkansas, and Patino, of course, is doing
Patino like things at Saint John. Some of the matchups today,
I'm interested in Maryland versus Grand Canyon, and you're probably
going to say, why, Well, Grand Canyon is a good
team and they're facing a Maryland team. That I think

(09:15):
has as good as starting five as just about anybody
except for Duke in Florida. But then there's like this subcurrent.
There's undercurrent here going on between the Maryland head coach
and his athletic director. Kevin Willard is the Maryland head coach,
and he's not happy with what's going on at Maryland.

Speaker 8 (09:37):
I need to see fundamental changes done. I want this
program to be great. I want to be the best
in the country. I want to win a national championship.
But there's things that need to change. When you're at
a place for three years and you put your heart
and soul onto you kind of say sit down and say, okay,
wait a second.

Speaker 3 (09:53):
For us to be really successful, X, Y and Z
needs a change.

Speaker 8 (09:56):
And first and foremost, I need to make sure that
we are where we are with NIL and I can
do the things that I want to do with my program.

Speaker 3 (10:04):
You know, I wanted to spend an extra night.

Speaker 8 (10:06):
In New York this year to celebrate Christmas with my team,
and I was told that we can't do that because
it's too expensive. So I don't know how we can
be a top tier program and I can't spend one
extra night in New York because it's too expensive.

Speaker 2 (10:21):
Okay, now there's other things going on. You've got Kevin Willard,
who has been reportedly linked to taking the Villanova job.
And then you have Maryland's athletic director, Damon Evans, according
to ESPN, is the potential primary target to become the
athletic director at SMU. So you have two guys who

(10:44):
could be headed elsewhere. And well, it sounds like the
athletic director is leaving and maybe the head coach is
leaving as well. Other than that, let's go out and
play some good basketball. Come on here, let's get in here. Ready,
breakhole question today? Seton what are we gonna go with?

Speaker 4 (11:03):
Yeah, I'll tell you Kevin Willard, he certainly understands leverage,
doesn't he?

Speaker 2 (11:08):
Holy smokes, I don't know if i'm him. And you
got that much of a problem at Maryland and you're
voicing that, do you voice it if you're leaving or
do you voice it to let people know why you left?
And he might be it might be a preemptive strike
there where you're like, hey, try to do the best
I could. I can't keep up with these other schools.

(11:28):
You know, they're killing us with nil. They probably get
to spend an extra night in New York at Christmas time. Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:35):
Yeah, he's either getting himself a new deal or like
in getting all the money that he wants, or he's
setting the stage for.

Speaker 2 (11:42):
Why he's on his way out.

Speaker 9 (11:44):
Yeah.

Speaker 4 (11:44):
Yeah, those are like the two options.

Speaker 2 (11:47):
And Villanova after Jay Wright left back to back non
tournament teams, and so Kevin Willard might be leaving Maryland
whenever that tournament run in ends and then going to
Leva eight seven seven three DP show email address DP
at Danpatrick dot com, Twitter handle it DP show any
other poll questions that you're thinking during this first hour

(12:09):
of the program. Yeah, let's see. Marvinsent went in here.
This is fun in honor of Chris Webber joining us today.
The coolest college basketball team ever is dot dot dot.

Speaker 4 (12:20):
Uh, Marvin, I'll run down these, but you jump in
wherever you feel necessary. Ewing's Georgetown super Cool, Fi Slamajama
Iconic nineties, u n l V Michigan Fab five Winter
Mother neither neither. I see a lot of parallels between
that the un LV team and the Fab five team.

(12:41):
They had a similar like aura to them.

Speaker 2 (12:44):
You know, yeah, you know us against the world type thing.
Do you put Duke with Leatner in Hurley and Grant Hill.
I think we said coolest.

Speaker 3 (12:59):
Me seeing the same page, we said coolest, not greatest.

Speaker 4 (13:02):
I mean they were good. They were so great, they
really were, but they weren't really cool, yes, Todd.

Speaker 10 (13:07):
The other thing is it seems like you need a
cool hip nickname to rally behind, like a Fab five
or Running ReBs and things like that. Duke didn't really
have a nickname. Either loved them or hated them. But
if they had some kind of cool name, maybe they'd
be higher up on our list.

Speaker 2 (13:20):
Hmm, Okay, did they get it? Did they have a
nickname other than like National Champs or something? I don't
think so, Yes, Marvin, and.

Speaker 3 (13:31):
I think also you got to see like the influence
around you. Not many people I knew were wearing like
Duke starter jackets. People had like UNLV started like you
saw videos. I saw Tupac with a UNLV. I had
no idea what that was. And then the Fab five
when I was young, that's my first favorite team ever.
So I had a bunch of Michigan starter gear because

(13:51):
I was like man Jalen Rolis, I was like Jalen.
That's a cool name. My mom always said that, Oh
I love that name. I said, of.

Speaker 11 (13:57):
Course, Yes, Dylan, I was gonna say, name wise five
slamm a gem I think takes the cake right.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Well, there was also well it was doctor Dunkenstein. That
was Louisville with Darryl Griffith. Isn't that a great nickname?
A great duncan Stein, Doctor duncan Stein.

Speaker 4 (14:16):
I mean, if somebody came up with it today, it'd
be like, what do you what? But the fact that
it exists, it absolutely worked.

Speaker 2 (14:26):
Dr duncan Stein.

Speaker 11 (14:27):
Yes, Dylan, Well, Min wou Lee the golfer is going
by a doctor Chipinski these days because he's alway chipping on.

Speaker 2 (14:34):
The chip Inski.

Speaker 12 (14:36):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (14:38):
Okay, that's a pretty good nickname, doctor chip Inski. All right,
we'll get phone calls. Uh, we got them all lined
up here eight seven seven three DP show. We'll settle
on a poll question see web Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 13 (14:57):
Uh.

Speaker 3 (14:58):
The Illinois team with Kendall Gill and those guys, I forget.
They had a really cool nickname. I forgot, or like
lead the Weapon three with Georgia Tech. Maybe not cause,
but they had really cool nicknames. I'm not sure if
you put them in the coolest category. But nicknames definitely help.
Like Fritzi said, well.

Speaker 2 (15:14):
Of all the days that Paulie is out, he could
help us with the fighting A Lini and they're nicknamed
there with Kendall Gill.

Speaker 3 (15:20):
Oh, the flying a line. I think it was called
oh oh, not that cool. Okay, maybe it's cooler in
my head.

Speaker 2 (15:28):
Sorry, Yeah, all right, we'll take a break, just getting
started here and phone calls see web will join us.
Paul's Schemes of the Pirates a little bit later on
as well. We might hear from John Kellaperry as well.
We're back after this on the Dan Patrick Show.

Okay, let's go.

Speaker 2 (17:02):
This is this is your day?

Speaker 3 (17:04):
He really is.

Speaker 2 (17:05):
Paulie's not here. You got Chinese food, you got rhyme
time coming up.

Speaker 3 (17:12):
Just a lot of fun things going on right now.

Speaker 2 (17:14):
Yeah, this is your day.

Speaker 10 (17:16):
Although there was no wantons or a one time they
drop soup with spare ribs but egg rolls.

Speaker 3 (17:20):
We can make that work.

Speaker 10 (17:22):
Wow, I said Tyler. I said Tire a little instant message.
He felt bad because he said, Oh, I kind of
ordered things yesterday. I should have checked with you, the
Chinese food master, that what you specifically might like.

Speaker 3 (17:33):
So I gave him a little guilt trip.

Speaker 10 (17:34):
That were's the house ride rice and the steam chicken
and broccoli and spare ribs and stuff like that. But
that sounds like a really nice, nice group. Anyway, Thank
you to That's a look a gift, A gift Chinese
food in the mouth?

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Is that a phrase?

Speaker 2 (17:50):
I have no idea. Are you kind of did you
take over for Paul? Are you? Are you filling Pole's
shoes today?

Speaker 1 (17:57):
Kind of?

Speaker 10 (17:57):
I guess I just kind of I put a run
down together and put some it's some notes together. Outside
of that, I'm just waiting for the Chinese food and
getting ready for rhyme time next down.

Speaker 2 (18:05):
Okay, all right, Andy, and Rhode Island leads us off.
I Andy, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 15 (18:14):
Good morning, Dan Dannett, what's going on? Martin Fritzy? Ben
Last night was amazing. And can I say, how about
them cowboys and known it's not about Dallas, it's about
the mcnee's State Cowboys and being in the tennis last
night because we're hosting the final four over here, well

(18:34):
not to find a four, but marsh Maddings over here
in Providence. It was so amazing just to be part
of a college basketball atmosphere, seeing how you know, the
crowds collectively just you know, chair their their home team.
You know, it was amazing and to be part of
that it was so great. Dan, I can't believe in
my thirty seven years, I'd robbed myself would never even

(18:54):
going through a back college basketball game because it was
just so electric. And see the way that the celebrated
at the end.

Speaker 9 (19:01):
I didn't think.

Speaker 15 (19:02):
I thought the man was gonna come up to me
and give me a hug.

Speaker 16 (19:04):
That's how crazy it was.

Speaker 15 (19:06):
But nonetheless, Dan, I hope you all enjoy you meet Friday, Fritty,
hold it down, don't have too many plates. I love
you guys, and I'll check in too.

Speaker 2 (19:16):
All right, Andy, have a great weekend there. Uh, let's
see Buddha in San Francisco. Good morning, Buddha.

Speaker 17 (19:25):
No money Monny, happy to meet Friday Boys, Welcome back
to the Minister of Humor, rising like the Phoenix.

Speaker 9 (19:36):
Let's go Pritty, Let's go.

Speaker 12 (19:40):
Damn.

Speaker 17 (19:40):
This might be a deep cut, but Johnny Depp did
a musical movie in the nineties called Crybaby, and I
swear the first time and every time now that I
hear Pandora's renission of the saturnath Day, I could swear
she is one of the characters who is in that movie.
Sounds very much like she's out of that film. It's

(20:01):
pretty wild.

Speaker 18 (20:02):
But uh, in honor of March Madness, Dan and the
Resurrection Rick Pattino, I think we got to go back
to Fritzi's He gave us one of the greatest lines
of Rick Pettino regarding the.

Speaker 17 (20:17):
Pasta pasta premature.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
Let's go yeah yeah. That Todd was doing mock headlines,
Thank you Buddha, and that was one for Rick Pattino
when he apparently had some relations with a woman at
a restaurant Italian restaurant, good times at the restaurant, and
Todd came up with pastave premature. I don't know if

(20:41):
that really.

Speaker 4 (20:41):
Was good times, So that really didn't work out well
for Rick Petina at all.

Speaker 10 (20:46):
Yeah, just the headliness, good time, Yeah, good good for
having poking fun at it. Not for the people that
were participating in that.

Speaker 2 (20:52):
It was good for you. That's all that mattered. Yeah,
Sean and Kansas Hi, Sean, Hey, thanks for.

Speaker 13 (21:01):
Taking my call again. I went to KU right after
they won in two thousand and eight and it was
like the golden years. Bill self could do no wrong.
The last two years though, we've had the number one
transfer out of the transfer portal, We've had a bunch
of all Americans, and for some reason, they just never gelled.
They never played in Unison and you could see that
last nine I'm just wondering because Bill self, you know,

(21:22):
all these other coaches are retiring because of nil and
stuff like that.

Speaker 12 (21:26):
Bill Sealth seems to.

Speaker 13 (21:26):
Be one of the last ones left. And I don't
know if he's I have full.

Speaker 9 (21:30):
Faith in him.

Speaker 13 (21:31):
I love the lifetime contract we gave him, but these
last two years he showed he can't get a bunch
of you know, great players to try and play as
a team, and last night showed that. I just wonder
what he's thinking today, if he wants to go full reset,
or if he's thinking retirement.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Or what what he Well, I thought he was going
to go to Oklahoma State, and I thought that there
was at least that possibility of rumors attached about him
leaving going to I think that's his alma mater. But
since twenty seventeen, Kansas has entered three seasons as the
number one team in the country. None of those teams
finished as a top seed in the tournament, and none

(22:06):
made it past the round of thirty two. You know,
you kind of take it for granted with some of
these teams, and with Kansas it feels like you plug
them in and you realize that they're going to get
to the sweet sixteen or the Elite eight. It's just
not the case anymore. And NIL has leveled the playing field.
It's not just you're getting somebody. Somebody else is getting somebody.

(22:30):
Also the transfer portal as well, But I would say
Kansas is still the hunted. But I don't know how
much longer that is going to last. And you do
see these coaches who have been in it their career,
their lifers, and at some point the transfer portal and
NIL drives them out. Coach k didn't want to deal

(22:53):
with it. Coach Saban didn't want to Jay Wright at Villanova.
You know a lot of these coaches are like I
got into this business because I could control everything, and
they realized they are not able to control as much
as they think, or they once were able to Jonathan
in Long Island, Hi, Jonathan, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 19 (23:13):
Good morning, gentlemen, long time. Several times I am super excited.
Last night was a trifecta, a rare one with Polly
being absent. I think one good soccer. Second. They were
having World Cup qualifiers throughout the night. UCLA was on TV,
the Lakers were on TV.

Speaker 17 (23:29):
Great night for me.

Speaker 9 (23:30):
I have a pie to the face.

Speaker 19 (23:33):
Bet with Fritzy as an LA transplant here in Long Island.
I've adopted Saint John's and Ricky p and the Boys
Final four. They're coming out of their region. Up for
Fritzy because he's a Broncos guy. I give him right
a refusal, but anyone's up for it. I'd be happy to.
My wife would love to throw a pie in my face,
trusting we're expecting it.

Speaker 2 (23:53):
Also, so it'll be okay. Jonathan wants to know. I
think most of you guys have Saint John's going to
the final four, don't you. I have them got I have.

Speaker 10 (24:02):
Them beating Duke in the National title game. So that
wouldn't work for me, so do I?

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Oh, okay, you know, seating you up? Saint John's going
to Uh. I have them losing in the Elite eight. Okay,
what about you? Dylan? The resident gambler on this show,
not a good gambler, but a resident gambler on this show.

Speaker 11 (24:20):
A resident. I have them losing I think next round.

Speaker 2 (24:25):
Oh yeah, do you want a piece of Jonathan? He's
got them.

Speaker 4 (24:31):
You wouldn't hapen to have them losing to Kansas in
the next round, would you know?

Speaker 2 (24:34):
As a matter of fact.

Speaker 11 (24:34):
That I wasn't going to bring that up.

Speaker 3 (24:38):
But yeah, I'll take that.

Speaker 2 (24:41):
All right, Jonathan. You gotta bet Dylan will take you
up on it. He doesn't have uh uh Ricky p
going much further. Let's see Don in Arkansas? Hi, Don,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 20 (24:55):
Good morning, gileman. Uh, here's here's what I can say. Uh,
you forgot about the Moniker forty minutes of Hell with
Nolan kind of like five Islamic Jammoth. Anyway, Cali Parry
proved it last night, and I think you guys are
giving Patino too much, too much credit. Why don't we

(25:16):
see what happens come Saturday.

Speaker 2 (25:19):
Well wait a minute, Hell, am I giving Rick Patino
too much credit?

Speaker 9 (25:23):
Well?

Speaker 20 (25:23):
I mean, y'all are all over Saint John and all
that kind of stuff. I think Arkansas story is just
as just as interesting kind of kind of And you know, hey,
there are other teams except Big East teams up there.

Speaker 2 (25:39):
Oh, here we go, here we got our East Coast bias.

Speaker 3 (25:45):
Yes, Martin, we haven't talked about Saint John since I
was fifteen years old. I'm forty now. We've been talking
about Arkansas even before Cali Party got there, when Musselman
was there. They had three McDonald's, all Americans this last
season there and they were a four or five seed.
What are we talking? We haven't talked about Saint John's
in forever. We talked more about Arkansas in March Manness.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
We even talked about Mussulman's wife, who I worked with
at ESPN. So, yes, we have talked about Arkansas. We
haven't talked about Saint John's. And Saint John's is a
pretty amazing story if you look at what Patino's done
and revitalizing Saint John's. I go back to the eighties
when that was big East basketball at its finest. Patino's

(26:26):
bounced around, goes from my you know, every place he's gone,
he's won, and yeah it's a big deal. But we
did talk about Connecticut if there's an East Coast bias
because they won the national championship the two previous years.
But I don't know if we're going out of our
way to say, bolly, look at what Rick Patino did.

(26:47):
You know what Cali Perry did was interesting that he
kind of wore out his welcome at Kentucky. He knew it.
Kentucky went in and you know, went out and got
Mark Pope brought him in. Cali Perry goes to Arkin Saw.
He's friends with one of the big donors there, big
boosters there. Musselman goes to USC. I mean, John should

(27:08):
be in the tournament, he should be competitive. He's really
good at recruiting, and they got a big win last
night against Kansas. So let's see what happens coming up
on Saturday. I think it's a great matchup. It's fun.
We do get caught up in coach versus coach as
opposed to players versus players. But that's just the familiarity

(27:29):
part of this. David in Ohio, Hi, David.

Speaker 9 (27:34):
Hey Dan, speaking of Dylan making part of the face
that he tells me one from Taylor Swift. I haven't
forgotten about that.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
So thank you, okay, David. David sounded a little mift
at you, Dylan.

Speaker 11 (27:47):
He did sound myfed He is right though I did.
That was a bad bet, but I did take it, Okay,
So I'm.

Speaker 2 (27:53):
Dealing, Jui. Do we want to do? You'll always you
guys say, oh, the weather's got to be at least
like forty nine and a half degrees before you go
outside to do the pie to the face.

Speaker 3 (28:05):
Yes, barn, that's just me because I'm soft.

Speaker 2 (28:07):
Oh okay, Dylan's not soft, but Dylan all then, maybe
a pie of the face at the end of the
show today. I don't know if you've got, you know,
with your favorite wardrobe, your favorite outfit on today.

Speaker 11 (28:22):
I do really like this shirt.

Speaker 3 (28:24):
But I could do it.

Speaker 11 (28:24):
I could go tarps off for the pie.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Okay, well we could. We could get you, you know,
we got everything on sale at Danpatrick dot com. We
could get you one of the T shirts there.

Speaker 11 (28:35):
And ruin a perfectly good T shirt.

Speaker 2 (28:37):
Then yes, yes, but we'll get Tyler whip up a
pie and then maybe you pay off your Taylor Swift
super Bowl Beth John in Riverside, Hi, John, what's on
your mind today?

Speaker 16 (28:50):
Hey? Good morning fellas a five five slim sick second
front row. Wow, So I got a quick staut of
the day song. It goes stat stat stat stat stat
of the day, that stat stat stat stat of the
door that that stats that stat of the day here

(29:10):
because this stat of the day.

Speaker 2 (29:14):
Okay, nailed it, nailed it all right, John, Thank you, John,
thank you. That will be the first and last time
you'll hear that on the show. Are you sure? Though? Yeah?
I don't like that simplicity.

Speaker 1 (29:29):
Do you guys like that?

Speaker 2 (29:29):
But you don't like Pandora? Oh my god, I have
no offense Pandora.

Speaker 4 (29:34):
I like that infinitely more than what would happen with
that Pandora song.

Speaker 2 (29:38):
I love Pandora.

Speaker 5 (29:40):
Stata the j stat of the ja.

Speaker 3 (29:43):
We love your.

Speaker 5 (29:46):
Stata the day Stata, the j Stanta, the j oh
damn give us that stat of the day Stanta, the jay.

Speaker 2 (29:57):
Thank you Pandora. That's awesome, awesome Brett in Michigan. Hi, Brett,
what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (30:04):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (30:05):
Dan? How you doing? I just got a question with
the new seeding way process that they do in the
NCAA bracket, why is Michigan State playing at ten o'clock
our local timeway on the West Coast.

Speaker 2 (30:22):
I don't know. I don't have an answer for that.
I'm sorry. I can get some of my best people
on that, Brett to ask why you guys have to
wait till ten o'clock at night. I knew they're going
to expand the tournament, and I think what will happen that, Okay,
we have sixty eight. I think you still want to

(30:42):
keep the one through sixteen seeds. I think you're going
to have more first four games. You'll probably double the
first four games. That way, you kind of keep the
bracket integrity of one versus sixteen. I don't think they
want to go, you know, an eighteenth seed. I think sixteen,
but you're you're going to get more of those first
four games and you can add the games on the

(31:05):
front end. I don't know if people will complain, you know,
the tournament is still people love the tournament because you're
watching teams that you probably like McNee state. They were
fun to watch yesterday and who would have thought Clemson
would score thirteen points in the first half. You know,
you get these schools every tournament. There's always that one

(31:27):
school where we kind of adopt. There's a Cinderella story
to it, and I think that's what's really fun about
all of this. But yes, I think we're adding. They
never subtract. The question is do they go to seventy
six teams? Do we add eight more which means four
more games? And I get the feeling that's probably where
we're headed. We'll take a break. When we come back,

(31:50):
we'll give you our play of the day, more of
your phone calls as well. Chris Weber join us coming
up next hour in the Pirates Star Pitcher Paul's Schemes.
A little bit later on. We're back after this.

(32:57):

minutes of the program, Yeah, I'd be happy to. We
got up there.

Speaker 4 (33:04):
One from Marvin coolest basketball college basketball team ever. Your
options are Ewing's Georgetown, Fi Slama Jama, the nineties UNLV,
or Michigan Fab five. We're doing this in honor of
Chris Weber coming on today. Last place right now is
Ewing's Georgetown. Only four percent of the vote on that one.

Speaker 13 (33:24):
Man.

Speaker 2 (33:25):
Yeah, they were big, though, they were they that was
before anybody else. I think like they like a cultural
phenomenon with wearing Georgetown gear because that was in the eighties.
I don't remember anybody doing that prior to that. FI

(33:46):
Slama Jama was around the same time, though with Georgetown.

Speaker 4 (33:51):
Hm Fi Slama Jama right now has got about twenty
four percent of the vote. In first place is Michigan's
Fab five, followed really really closely by the nineties U
and L teams.

Speaker 2 (34:01):
Okay, the run in rebels, Yeah, okay, yeah.

Speaker 17 (34:04):
Man.

Speaker 2 (34:05):
I thought Stacey Augman was going to be the guy.
I really did.

Speaker 4 (34:08):
He was like that team was super cool. But I thought, man,
that dude right there, he's going to go to the
next level and just crush.

Speaker 2 (34:16):
He couldn't shoot well enough, but he was like that
Swiss army knife that It felt like Stacy could do
just about everything. I don't know if he was great
at any everything or anything, but he was a really
good player. Larry Johnson was awesome, Anderson Hunt. I mean
they had and they played defense. I think that's where

(34:39):
you tend to look at teams and go, boy, they're
a great offensive team. You had to play defense for
Tarkanian at UNLV and they would turn you over and
then that's when they would start running. But Greg Anthony
was a point guard. I think Greg I don't know
if he led the nation in scoring. He was at
Portland State and then transferred to un LV. Does that

(35:00):
sound right. I think he was one of the top
scores in the country. Yeah, Marvin.

Speaker 3 (35:05):
Larry Johnson was a JUCO transfer also.

Speaker 2 (35:07):
Yeah, that's true.

Speaker 3 (35:08):
Tark was in the transfer portal thirty years ago.

Speaker 2 (35:11):
Yes, he was. Tark was ahead of his time and
a lot of a lot of things. Aaron in Missouri,
hi eron what's on your mind today?

Speaker 21 (35:22):
Good morning DP. Just kind of wanted to get your
quick take. Drake upsetting Missouri last night and they have
a first year head coach, Ben McCollums, who led Drake,
who led Northwest Missouri State to or D two national titles.
He's got a bunch of D two guys, a couple
of two co guys. You guys talk about supurity basketball
quite a bit. Just want to get your take on

(35:44):
Ben McCallum and Drake.

Speaker 2 (35:46):
Isn't Ben McCollum moving on, see rumored to be taking
the Eyewa job. Is that right, Marvin?

Speaker 3 (35:55):
Yeah, I think there's been some rumblings. I don't know
if it's rumblings. Yeah, it's not a fact yet, but
I think it's rumblings.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
Yeah, I didn't say I didn't look at Drake as
an upset over Missouri, and then they started chanting SEC overrated.
See this is I love when it gets territorial, these
turf wars of our conference, you know, going into the tournament,
SEC fourteen schools, all right, you get one or two

(36:21):
knocked off, it's okay, It's just you don't want to
get the top seeds knocked off. The other ones. Yeah,
there's gonna be some uh, you know, collateral damage because
you have so many teams in the tournament. Here Ellen
in Wisconsin, Hi Ellen, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 12 (36:37):
Well, good morning.

Speaker 22 (36:38):
I I have a couple of things. One is, please
please no more singing Stritchy's bad enough. Number two is,
it would be really funny to have brackets based on
coaches age, you know, because Patino's up there, and then
compared to Patino, some of these guys are embryos. I mean,

(36:59):
there's oh yes. And as far as the whining up
from the guy from Arkansas, it is not possible for
SEC teams to not get enough coverage. It's just not
have their own network, you know. So I'll take your
comments at ANTIOFS the radio. Thanks so much for taking
my call.

Speaker 2 (37:18):
All right, Ellen, have a great weekend. Yeah, you know,
this used to be kind of baked in with fandom
that ESPN on the East Coast. Therefore there's an East
Coast bias, and there probably was, but I think that
I don't see that or feel that as much as
I used to. And look, were we guilty of that, Yes,

(37:41):
did we focus on the Yankees and the Red Sox
way too much? Yes? But I don't I don't see
it territorial now. If anything, ESPN probably spends more time
on the Lakers than any other topic that they have.
They spend more time on the Cowboys than any other topic.
That's not East Coast bias. So if you're going to

(38:03):
play to the East Coast, I just think the fan
is smart, you know. But ESPN's gonna play the hits,
and the hits are Lebron and the Lakers, and you
have the Dallas Cowboys. And the Dallas Cowboys haven't accomplished
anything in thirty years, but they still they will lead
a show if there's any any chance of anything said

(38:24):
that has to pertain to the Cowboys. And I don't
have any football updates for you. I did work yesterday
talking to some people. One of my sources I don't
know what's happening with the Giants. I still think they're
taking Shador Sanders. I don't know what's happening with the Browns.
Is Russell Wilson going to go there? I don't know
what's happening with Aaron Rodgers. But if I do have anything,

(38:47):
then I'll let you know. But as it is now,
I think Aaron Rodgers is probably looking at retiring, or
at least the potential to retire, if nothing happens with Minnesota.
But we're we're only in March. Something could happen. I
mean JJ McCarthy didn't play a game last year. He
got hurt before the start of the regular season. If
something would happen to Matthew Stafford, you know, throw out

(39:11):
a couple of these names, you know, with teams who
have Super Bowl aspirations, then maybe Aaron Rodgers plays again.
But by all accounts, or you know, at least some
of the accounts that we've heard, they were interested, but
right now they're more interested in developing JJ McCarthy, which

(39:31):
I get. I just if you're Aaron Rodgers, is there
another team that you want to play for? Because if
he wanted to play for the Steelers. He could. If
you wanted to play for the Giants, he could. I
don't think he wants to. Therefore, it's either the Vikings
or Malibu. Andrew in Missouri, Andrew, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 12 (39:53):
Hey, how's it going? Six to one, two hundred. I've
been a long time listen their first time called. I'm
actually getting married about seven hours and I wonder if
I should work in something in the vowels my wife's
toy wife is a Viking fan. I'm a Packers fan.

Speaker 2 (40:10):
Well, what, okay, help me understand? Does everybody have a
sense of humor, and especially you're soon to be wife,
and what are you thinking of working into your vowels?

Speaker 12 (40:22):
I don't know, like something just something charming, something funny,
But yeah, everybody's got a really good sense of humor
with that stuff, like maybe like something through skull and
chief Head or something.

Speaker 21 (40:31):
I don't know.

Speaker 12 (40:31):
I thought maybe you could help me work shout something.

Speaker 2 (40:34):
Well, I got the King of Content, the Minister of Humor, Fritzi.
If Andrew was going to work something into his vowels
that had to do with the Packers or the Vikings,
any suggestions for him?

Speaker 10 (40:46):
I think there should be a limerick that involves cheeseheads
and norsemen and also the color purple and the lambeau leap.
I could try to start putting something together, but I
think some of those elements should be in there, and
some type of poem doesn't have.

Speaker 6 (40:59):
To be wrong.

Speaker 3 (41:00):
I mean, but I always like the rhymes.

Speaker 2 (41:01):
Paul, So, Andrew, how about a limerick from Todd that
you could use in your wedding vows.

Speaker 12 (41:08):
I think it's perfect because I'm actually a wearing my
thank you Todd shure right now, so I think that's perfect.

Speaker 3 (41:12):
How about that?

Speaker 2 (41:14):
Okay? What I would ask for in lieu of money
to pay Todd for you this great comedic content that
he has that somebody takes a video and that we're
able to show that on the show.

Speaker 12 (41:27):
Okay, we can definitely make that happen.

Speaker 2 (41:31):
Andrew, good luck. We're all counting on you, Todd with
a limerick. Chris Weber, Hall of Famer, will join us.
