You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. Welcome to the program. I hope he had
a great weekend. Everybody.

Speaker 2 (00:09):
The talented Adam Sandler will join us Happy Gilmore two
is officially a go. Also, I want to talk to
Sandman about Anthony Edwards because ant Man was in the
movie Hustle that Sandler had out a couple of years ago,
and I remember him telling me he's like Danny, this
kid has so much charisma, and you know, not only

(00:31):
a great basketball player, but so much charisma. And then
I'm watching the movie. He goes, wait till you see him.
He can act. And then I'm watching I'm realizing, I
know he can play basketball, but he's got so much charisma. Well,
last night his team they held you know, they hung
in there. They were down fifteen at halftime, they were
down twenty at one point in the game, and came

(00:53):
back to win. It's the first time in NBA history
that you've had multiple road teams win Game seven's on
this same day. Stat of the Day brought to you
by Panini America, the official trading cards of the program,
Phone Calls eight seven seven three DP shows we always
do every Monday, best and worst of the weekend. What
you saw that you liked you didn't like? Good morning.
If you're watching on Peacock, our streaming partner, thank you

(01:15):
for downloading the app.

Speaker 3 (01:16):
Well.

Speaker 2 (01:17):
There he is, Adam Sandler joining us on the program. Sandman, Danny,
how are you feeling today.

Speaker 4 (01:23):
I buddy, do you want shades on like this or
like this?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
I think shades let's I mean, let's be a movie
star here.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
Let's go.

Speaker 2 (01:32):
Okay.

Speaker 5 (01:32):
I feel I'm a European. I feel like I feel
like it makes sense.

Speaker 4 (01:36):
I missed you. I'm glad to see you.

Speaker 2 (01:38):
Where are you right now?

Speaker 4 (01:40):
I'm in my trailer. I'm shooting a movie. It's all
going good. I'm in Italy, Italy.

Speaker 5 (01:46):
Yeah, okay, I brought I guess who I brought Lock?

Speaker 4 (01:50):
I brought Lockran.

Speaker 2 (01:51):
Look uh, look at my favorite dog. There.

Speaker 4 (01:57):
Miss your mess your Danny.

Speaker 2 (01:59):
Who you with in Italy?

Speaker 4 (02:03):
Family? My family brought the family. You know what I mean.

Speaker 5 (02:05):
But I wake up in the morning and rewatch the
basketball games that Anthony Edwards had a heck of a series,
didn't he?

Speaker 4 (02:14):
Last night was good?

Speaker 2 (02:15):
And you're the one that told me that he's not
only a great basketball player, but when you put him
in the movie Hustle that he could act. But how
did you realize Anthony Edwards could kind of hold his
own as an actor?

Speaker 5 (02:28):
You know, I'm sorry it went out for a second,
but you were talking to that I told you how
great he is. Yes, he was just such a funny sweetheart.
The only reason I'll take them off the chaise I
look crazy. But the only reason we know of him
is Wancho played on the same team with him, and
when he read the script we were casting, a party

(02:49):
goes you should use my my friend Anthony, he's my teammate.
He's great, he would kill this, and so read with
Jeremiah the director, and Jeremiah's like, oh my god, he's
like Paul Newman or something. He just was like all charisma.
Came in hang on one second day. Yeah he Oh,

(03:13):
he definitely had like made everybody by the way, every
pro guy when we were shooting the movie loved him.
He just got something carefree, cool thing about him, and
he wants to win and he and he's he's a badass.

Speaker 4 (03:30):
I love him.

Speaker 2 (03:31):
Uh is this movie top secret or something?

Speaker 4 (03:34):
You're there?

Speaker 2 (03:35):
Yeah? You got me?

Speaker 4 (03:38):
Sorry, Yes, I got you.

Speaker 2 (03:39):
Who else is starring in this movie, the.

Speaker 4 (03:43):
One I'm doing right now in Italy? Yeah, uh Clone
Laura dern Uh. It's it's no Bomback, No Bomback movie.

Speaker 2 (03:51):
Oh so you guys were shooting in London now you're
in Italy exactly.

Speaker 6 (03:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 5 (03:55):
Yeah, yeah, same movie, same movie. It's still going, man,
okay going, but it's going great. It's going great. We've
been having fun, and we've been talking a lot of basketball,
because man, I'll.

Speaker 4 (04:06):
Tell you, Europe's starting to know that basketball. Whenever I
go to.

Speaker 5 (04:10):
Go out in Italy or in England, they all talk
to me about the Knicks, and they talk to me
about six ers and it was pretty funny.

Speaker 4 (04:17):
They know their stuff.

Speaker 5 (04:18):
And every everybody's starting to talk about Anthony Edwards being
a superstar. I know he's big in America now right,
everyone loving him?

Speaker 2 (04:25):
Yeah? Uh so how do you have time to work
on Happy Gilmore too? The script?

Speaker 4 (04:32):
It's not easy, man. We're going to get to it
in a in a little bit.

Speaker 5 (04:35):
I come home in a couple of weeks in the
Hurl that he flies out and and and and then
we get going on that.

Speaker 2 (04:42):
Can you give me? Can you give me a plot,
like a like a working plot here that you have.

Speaker 4 (04:50):
No, I mean I will right when, I right when
we zero it.

Speaker 5 (04:53):
Now we got we have some million things, like I
told you, But I I just kinda kind of make
it flow a little more. But I think it might
have to do with something with be being a little
older now and and and still trying to compete with
the youngsters.

Speaker 2 (05:10):
Oh so you're going to be so you're going to
be playing golf in the movie.

Speaker 4 (05:15):
I think so. I think so right right now, I
am yeah, it makes sense to me. But uh, we'll see.

Speaker 5 (05:22):
Hurley he was at the uh he went down to
the tournament this weekend and hung out with some of
the guys. He hung out with Daily a little bit
and they and Daily was selling up some great stories.

Speaker 4 (05:31):
It was we're ready, baby, we're excited.

Speaker 2 (05:33):
Is John Daily going to be in the movie.

Speaker 4 (05:36):
I would like to think so is. But I love him.
I love him, I always did love him.

Speaker 2 (05:43):
Is Tiger going to be in the movie?

Speaker 4 (05:49):
Ah, huh, let's see what it is. I'm sorry, is
Tiger going to because I forgot.

Speaker 1 (06:00):
I would love it.

Speaker 4 (06:01):
We'll see.

Speaker 5 (06:02):
I'm gonna write, I'm gonna write all my dreams and
then you never know what's gonna happen.

Speaker 4 (06:06):
But we're gonna, we're gonna.

Speaker 2 (06:11):
I'll let you I'll let you go, I'll let you go. Yeah,
you're you're you're freezing up.

Speaker 4 (06:16):
Uh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. I love you.

Speaker 2 (06:18):
I love you too. All right. That's Adam Sandler joining
us from Italy. Yeah, happy Gilmore too. Yeah, we didn't
even get a chance to do the elevator pitch. Maybe
that's a good thing, convenient for everybody, that that's a
good thing. Yeah, Paulie had it all kind of mapped down,
maybe a ryder Cup type feel for this, and uh,
Adam Sandler shooting McGavin, maybe partnering together. Yes, Pauline, you.

Speaker 7 (06:42):
Gotta get Sasha Baron Cohen in there. He's just naturally
funny European bad guy. That'd be nice. I like that
John Daly gets injured. Tiger Happy Gilmour writes itself after that.

Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah, and then I thought, since Bob Barker is not
around anymore to reprise his role, that we get Drew
care no doubt, since he's hosting that show. So maybe
Drew Carey gets to punch sand Man. I still love
that Bob Barker when he's shooting Happy. Gilmore said that
he would do the part, but he had to win
the fight with Sandler. Boss. That's that was it. He said,

(07:18):
I'll do it, but I have to win the fight.
And of course it made for a better scene there
and then. So I'll probably be a golf announcer there.
I'm guessing that's what's my role would be. Quinn, California.
Hey Quinn, what's on your mind today? Hey gentlemen, good morning.

Speaker 8 (07:36):
Yeah, I was thinking about this story plot.

Speaker 9 (07:38):
What if you had Shoot.

Speaker 8 (07:39):
Mcgab and the guy trying to get to the tournament
and gets arrested in front of like Happy and stuff,
and he's telling Happy, Hey, tell him who I am.
He just walks by laughing. And then Shooter gets out
of the can and he's struggling with his drive, so
he has to somehow incorporate haf to Gilmore to teach
him to get a drive back.

Speaker 4 (07:55):
Just an idea.

Speaker 2 (07:56):
Okay, who was that? Christopher McDonald is Shooter McGavin, great actor. Yeah,
he's in the show Hacks, which is a wonderful show.
Gene Smart is the star and he's in there and
they were actually playing golf in this last episode. But yeah,
if you want a nice, breezy, kind of fun show

(08:19):
to watch, Hacks with Gene Smart. I think it's on
Max or Netflix that they're in a third season. Marvin
says it's on Max all right. By the way, Bronck
Zoo nineteen ninety crime Chaos in Baseball, it's the New
York Yankees the nineteen ninety baseball season. A rare first

(08:40):
hand account of those closest to the team stream it
now only on Peacock. All right, Seaton, pull question from
our one and what are we going to go with
hour two?

Speaker 10 (08:51):
Yeah?

Speaker 11 (08:51):
We got up there a team that should feel best
about next season, Denver, New York and Oklahoma City. Right now,
Oklahoma City is running away with that at sixty percent.
Is that just because of their age?

Speaker 2 (09:00):
Yeah? Yeah, I think so.

Speaker 11 (09:02):
It's tough to not feel great if you're Denver, you
still you still have.

Speaker 2 (09:08):
Yeah, but it's weird because they're gonna get rid of
some players. They don't have a bench. Are you going
to trade Michael Porter? He's making thirty three million dollars
a year. I got love Aaron Gordon, but Aaron Gordon
did not play well last night either four points, four rebounds,
and he played over a forty minute. I mean that's
almost impossible with that team his talent, and they know showed.

(09:35):
But I mean Minnesota moved on because they it was
a team effort, not Anthony Edwards. It was a team
effort in fact, picking him up because he didn't he
wasn't shooting well from the floor. Yeah, sehn, What about
for the Knicks?

Speaker 12 (09:50):
I mean the Knicks.

Speaker 11 (09:51):
You had a great season with a ton of injuries.
I'd feel good about what happened, all right, But are
you just as because it's the Knicks, are you skeptical
about their ability to do it again?

Speaker 12 (10:03):
Just be?

Speaker 11 (10:04):
I mean, just.

Speaker 2 (10:06):
Well, now I feel better about Dante DiVincenzo and Josh
Hart and of course Jalen Brunson, og An Andobi. I
don't know if Robinson will be back Hartenstein, are they
going to have him back? He's a free agent. Julius Randall,
you know, a couple of pieces there, and now they
know they can do it now against all odds, they

(10:30):
know they know they can do it, and they can
hold their own. But you're still gonna Miami's gonna get better,
Philly will get healthier. Milwaukee's gonna get healthier. I mean,
these teams, you have a window. This was the window
for the Knicks, and this is the window for you know,
the Timberwolves. Because that the West is young, you know,

(10:51):
Denver will still have a couple of great players. I mean,
just throw in everybody in there. Houston's on the rise.
I mean there's a lot of teams tas ok Se
Dallas like you have your window. I mean that's why
we've had what five different winners the last five years,
will have a sixth this year. Yes, Marvin.

Speaker 12 (11:12):
So the Celtics they better win it this year, Yes,
they better. So quick question. Have you ever seen a
team that won a championship but it was more like
a sire relief rather than a celebration.

Speaker 2 (11:26):
I think the Dodgers winning the World Series? It felt
like good call because there was a lot at stake there, Yeah,
a lot at stake, you know, Clayton Kershawn winning a title,
Dave Roberts holding onto his job, the amount of money
they put into that team, and it almost felt like, Okay,

(11:46):
you won. I'm trying to think basketball wise, if there
was an overwhelming favorite, they won, but it wasn't a.

Speaker 11 (11:57):
Heat with Lebron d Wade Bosh Big three. Took them
a little bit to figure that out. But there was
a lot of expectations there.

Speaker 2 (12:08):
Well, I think because they lost to Dallas and then
all of a sudden it wasn't a foregone conclusion they're
going to win a title. Then when they did, I
think it was like, oh, okay, all right, yeah that
makes up for you know, losing to Dallas.

Speaker 7 (12:22):
Yeah, pulling I'll throughout the ninety five Atlanta Braves. They
had made a couple World series and they had a
truckload of pitching talent, maybe as an all time pitching roster. Yeah,
and they finally won it, and yeah, that's all like an.

Speaker 2 (12:35):
Excel good call. Let's see Nick and Irvine. Hi Nick,
good morning. What's on your mind today?

Speaker 3 (12:44):
Ay?

Speaker 13 (12:44):
My Hall of Famer?

Speaker 10 (12:45):
Hey Nick, I got best in the worst They both
involved Valhalla first for the winner, San Diego boy just
seems like the nicest guy. I just congratulations to him.

Speaker 13 (12:58):
It was that was that.

Speaker 10 (13:00):
It was an epic final rounders came down to the
last pot.

Speaker 13 (13:04):
Beautiful.

Speaker 10 (13:05):
My worth of the weekend is the Golf Club of Valhalla.
They could not keep their volunteers safe with one death
on the board. They arrested the number one player in
the world wrongfully, you know. And I hope people when
they when they see and hear other people maybe have

(13:26):
different colors complaining about being arrested by cops, they can
have a little more understanding now about where other people
might be.

Speaker 2 (13:32):
I think we're going a little too far here. New
I don't know if this is the golf course. It
was a police officer and somebody was killed at five
in the morning when it was pitch black, and I
don't know that you know the circumstances there, but that's
not the golf course. Somebody could have walked in front

(13:53):
of a you know, shuttle bus. Nobody saw, you know,
somebody there, and these police officers. I mean, if you
want to say something about the PGA of America and
who they hired, Okay, maybe there's a conversation there, but
I'm not putting this on Valhalla. Let's see Bob and Seattle. Hi, Bob,
welcome back, Hey you be good morning morning.

Speaker 6 (14:16):
Hey.

Speaker 9 (14:16):
I got the best and worst of the weekend. The
best of the weekend is Manchester City winning the fourth
straight Premier League title. Which is a very excuse to
have our girl from Rebecca Lo. Rebecca Lo, who doesn't
like Rebecca Low. And the worst of the weekend is
I work weekends as a soccer referee and had the

(14:39):
pop of the Achilles come out for a year.

Speaker 2 (14:42):
Oh well, Bob man, I feel for you. Did you
know as soon as it happened, Yes, sir, it.

Speaker 9 (14:54):
Sounded like a tree branch snapped, and I'm like, there's
no trees around here, and all of a sudden, I
was looking at the grass. This is not good.

Speaker 2 (15:03):
How old are you, Bob sixty? Oh? And were you
refing older players.

Speaker 9 (15:11):
Sixteen and a under? Yes, it was quite competitive. It
was a great game.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
You're trying to keep up with them? Yes, yes they did.
They carry you off.

Speaker 9 (15:23):
I limped off and then one of the assistants took
over for the for the rest of the match.

Speaker 2 (15:29):
Well, get a hold of Aaron Rodgers. See what if
his doctor can help you, Bob, make me.

Speaker 13 (15:34):
On the list.

Speaker 9 (15:35):
Hey take me out with a strikeout.

Speaker 6 (15:36):
Would you?

Speaker 2 (15:40):
Bob is gone? Oh man, that's tough. For a year.
Everybody describes it the same way. It's like dang, well,
and you turn around and you realize wait, oh, that's
that's my achilles that popped. There's nothing else there. We'll
take a break. We'll give you our best and worst
of the weekend. More phone calls come up eight seven

(16:00):
to seven three DP show. How do you console a
friend whose team lost while you're still you still have
to do your job, So you work with this person,
you still have to do your job. We have a
couple of those people around here that we've had to
console over the last couple of years. Whether it's Niners
losing a Super Bowl, Detroit up big on San Francisco

(16:23):
in the conference title game, or say the Knicks losing yesterday.
We'll talk about what it's like to console back after this.

Palie Fusco here with Tony Fusco, you know, as the
host of the number one rated Paully and Tony Fusco Show.
We get tons and tons of fanmail every day, piles
of it. In fact, Tony, why don't you open up
one of those letters right now and read what's inside.

Speaker 15 (16:56):
Hey, listen to this. Dear Paulie and Tony, your sports
takes the dumbest and most terribly that Wait, why this
other one? Yeah, Paulie and Tony, you suck more than anyone. Wait,
try this one, deea, Paulie and Tony, you guys are
the absolute best. There you go coming up with the
stupidest take.

Speaker 1 (17:17):
Forget it.

Speaker 14 (17:17):
Just listen to the and Tony Fusco Show on the
iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts.

Speaker 2 (17:23):
Yeah, time for our best and worst of the weekend.
Which you saw that you liked you didn't like? And
then how do you console a friend a co worker
after their team loses? Todd, I'll start with you best
of the weekend.

Speaker 16 (17:38):
I'm gonna go a little hockey, specifically the Edmonton Oilers
who avoid elimination on their home ice Saturday night. I
was watching a good portion of that being the Canucks
five to one, three assists or Coonoor mc david Game
seven tonight in Vancouver. To look forward to worst Okay,
see blows a sixteen point halftime lead Saturday night in Dallas.

Speaker 17 (17:54):
SGA commits that foul at the end on the maps PJ.

Speaker 16 (17:57):
Washington made those free throws and purposely missed that last
one thunder one seventeen one sixteen.

Speaker 2 (18:02):
See No Connor Best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 11 (18:04):
My best of the weekend sees the Gray winning the Preakness.
I love that basically a crowd funded horse won a
huge race, big upset. I wonder if this will be
a new trend in horse racing. And I love just
average people having the ability to get in on something
they had previously been long priced out of.

Speaker 12 (18:25):
Not even close.

Speaker 2 (18:26):
I absolutely love that.

Speaker 11 (18:27):
My worst of the weekend I have a thirty year
old movie review of a movie that I once previously
thought was phenomenal. Like I put it up there with like,
oh my gosh, this is a great movie. It gave
some of the greatest performances that I could think of,
had some really iconic movie scenes that I just watched
last night.

Speaker 2 (18:47):
That I thought, Wow, this movie is horrible. Let's see
if we can guess thirty years old.

Speaker 11 (18:54):
Well, it's from the eighties, so maybe it's even older
than that. It has its star, a massive actor who's
been on the show before, had a great appearance on
the show, Paulie.

Speaker 7 (19:07):
I'm gonna guess Wall Street.

Speaker 11 (19:09):
No, it's a good guess though, but that movie does suck.

Speaker 2 (19:13):
Marvin.

Speaker 12 (19:14):
I'm gonna go Field of Dreams.

Speaker 11 (19:16):
Right actor, wrong movie. Paul Durham, No you crazy, No,
not even close. You have Paul The Untouchables.

Speaker 2 (19:25):
Yes, uh.

Speaker 11 (19:28):
I was watching that movie last night and I remember thinking,
like Sean Connery, that was one of the best roles
I've ever seen someone play, Like, oh god, he's this
Irish copy was great. He was phenomenal. That movie, maybe
for nineteen eighty six or whatever it was, was awesome,
But man, does it not hold up. And if anybody
was gonna remake a movie today, remake The Untouchable Untouchables,

(19:50):
because I bet you could make it awesome. This is
still a great story. But that was just There's this
scene where Kevin Costner is about to go like bust
up where they are there hiding all the liquor, and
he goes, all right.

Speaker 2 (20:02):
Boys, let's go do some good dude. What Let's go
do some good? Maybe that's how they spoke back in
the nineteen twenty let's go do some good fellas?

Speaker 6 (20:16):
What dude?

Speaker 2 (20:18):
AnyWho let that soak in? Marvin, you got the best
and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 12 (20:26):
Yeah, there's a movie. I hate Shawshank. Sorry, go ahead.
Best of the weekend, Yeah, best of the weekend. Jade
McDaniels is going twenty three points for the Tea Wolves,
including hitting three three pointers. Worse of the weekend the Knicks.
Their health, not even the team, just their health. Everybody
was hurt. Og tried to come out there, but he's

(20:46):
walking like Lieutenant Dan with his new legs. And you know, no.

Speaker 2 (20:50):
Good Paulie Best and worst.

Speaker 7 (20:52):
Worst of the weekend, it's obvious. But the Denver Nuggets
supporting cast. Even a little help of your top two
players and you probably are advancing Best of the weekend.
Bryson d Chambeau on the golf course. He's a little
smaller these days, playing better. He was twenty under and
was right in the mix at the end. But he
walked off the course after one of his holes and
he threw a ball to about an eight year old kid.
An adult grabs the golf ball and runs away with it. Bryson,

(21:16):
he was all charged up. He yelled, the gig was
head twice. It's a get back here to give it
to the kids. So that was pretty cool, and it's
all about the kids.

Speaker 11 (21:23):
Nick Bryson Deshambo had a horrible weekend two though at
the same time, dude has he's twenty under, absolutely crushing,
has like nearly a you know, like record setting weekend,
and not only did he still lose, but he's now
third in line to best storyline of the of the

(21:43):
the tournament.

Speaker 2 (21:44):
Well that's tough.

Speaker 11 (21:46):
I mean, how do you play that well and it's
still it's like third or fourth in line of like
oh yeah, and this that's tough.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah. Well, those are two tough storylines to overcome, certainly
with Scottie Scheffler and Jail and then Ryder Schoffley went
by one.

Speaker 11 (22:02):
Gosh, man, that's frustrating.

Speaker 2 (22:03):
Nick Wright had some tweets Nick Wright from Fox Sports.
I just remember that some of my colleagues tried to
convince me that there were some similarities between Denver and
Kansas City. I think they even did some joker in
mahomes comparisons. I assume those apologies are in the mail.

(22:24):
And he also said the defending champs lost game one
at home, annihilated Game two at home. They were up
three games to two. They lost Game six by forty
five points. Game seven the other team's twenty two year
old best player was six to twenty four from the field.
They were up by twenty and they lost at home. Well,

(22:44):
Nick's also trying to defend his tweet or his hot
take about Joker winning the MVP, and basically he had
no business winning the MVP. This is maybe the first
one that Nick had a problem with. I don't have
his tweets about that, but now the Joker has won three.
I think it was basically the worst player ever to

(23:06):
win the MVP. I'd have to check that with Nick
and anything that's compared to Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs
he's going to take offense to as well. I don't
know who did this, Nick, Why don't you just say
hey to the guys, this guy, this guy, this guy,
this guy, instead of just putting out a blanket tweet,
tell us who they are. Who said Joker and Patrick

(23:29):
Mahomes or Denver in Kansas I brought up Denver. If
they go back to back, You've also had the Aces
go back to back and Yukon basketball go back to back.
I'm not comparing Denver to Kansas City or Joker to Mahomes.
Joker's obviously a better passer than Mahomes. Oh, yes, Paulie.

Speaker 7 (23:52):
Any similarities though, if you're Nick right, he's the Chiefs guy.
They won their first super Bowl, then they got smoked
in the Super Bowl the next year and did advance
to the finals. But you know, can't sit it to
win four in a row. Can't say lost after they
won their first one? Yeah, well it won back to
back though, But yeah, I don't. I'm not sure who
he's calling out, but name names, Nick, Let's go, all right,

(24:14):
how do you console a friend after a really tough loss.
Todd is not the best at consoling because we have
people here who work and they have their favorite teams.
Ray the intern Pa Ray, he's a Lions fan. Lions
lose in dramatic fashion to the forty nine ers. Todd

(24:37):
doesn't wait too long, but you do console Ray and
then you tell him to help you do something some research.

Speaker 17 (24:46):
Yes, And I don't know what the right amount of
time is to wait, because if there's a show coming
up and certain things are needed in a timely fashion,
and you want to be sensitive because certainly I wouldn't
be in a great mood if the Broncos, you know,
lost a big playoff game or a super Bowl or anything.
But then what is the right amount of time before
you you wait purposely for a separate conversation or email

(25:08):
or note, so that you just break up the two
the consolation note and then the okay, the work related thing.

Speaker 2 (25:14):
Noh, yes, Paulin.

Speaker 7 (25:15):
Just to put this in perspective, Ray a lifelong Lions fan,
long suffering. Moments after his team loses in painful fashion,
when they're going to advance, Fritzy sends a text, one
text that says, hey, sorry about your team, Hey, don't
forget for the prep tomorrow. It was all in the
same text, the sorry for your team and don't forget
to do these eight things.

Speaker 2 (25:32):
Yeah. And then we have Rob, who's a big Knicks fan,
and trying to console him. I see him in the
parking lot getting out of his car, and I said, hey,
how you doing, And he talked about the Knicks and
they gave it there all and they just ran out
of bodies. Then that's it. Marvin's team lost the Super Bowl,

(25:54):
the forty nine ers. I don't know how long Todd
spent consoling you on that before asking you.

Speaker 12 (26:00):
He's like, tough loss, make sure that Peter articles printed
all right, wow.

Speaker 2 (26:05):
Yeah, Well, I don't know if there's a right way
or wrong way. I think it depends on the moment.
How bad you know, how did you lose? How did
your team lose? Like, what do you say to a
Falcon fan after the Patriots that that victory? Man? I
thought you had him?

Speaker 10 (26:23):
Yeah?

Speaker 13 (26:23):
Seed.

Speaker 11 (26:24):
Part of what made Todd's version of it so funny, though,
is that it wasn't something pressing. It wasn't something that
needed to be done right away. It was a reminder
to do something tomorrow that eventually we would need. It
was like, hey, uh, sorry that you guys just lost
thirty seconds ago. Can you make sure that we have
enough kings Hawaiian rolls for Friday?

Speaker 2 (26:44):
It was a Sunday night, Sunday night, okay, final and
then Todd's asking for something for Monday morning.

Speaker 17 (26:53):
More fascinating thing is that that was I don't remember
that being like a group chain.

Speaker 4 (26:56):
Why would I send that to everybody?

Speaker 16 (26:57):
So I guess Ray will see the sharditary to show
how insensitive I was, or I'm not sure exactly how
that would be.

Speaker 4 (27:03):
For everyone to be involved with.

Speaker 12 (27:05):
Yes, far, all right, So if you're a Falcons fan,
should you always bring it up?

Speaker 7 (27:11):
Like?

Speaker 12 (27:11):
Man, it's it's terrible, like the twenty eight three lead. Sorry, guys,
Like I have a friend he listens to the show.
He's gonna text me. He's a Falcons fan. He's gonna
text me. Why do you guys always do this to me? Well, well,
we didn't do it.

Speaker 2 (27:22):
We didn't do it.

Speaker 12 (27:23):
The Falcons did it, right.

Speaker 2 (27:25):
Okay, At what point do you stop bringing up twenty
eight to three?

Speaker 17 (27:32):
Uh?

Speaker 13 (27:32):
Never?

Speaker 2 (27:33):
If they win? Can you still bring up twenty eight
to three?

Speaker 7 (27:38):
Yeah, Paul, it's Bill Buckner and the Red Sox, the
moment oh four they won the World Series. The Buckner
thing is a not an afterthought, but it's not the
painful moment. If the Falcons win a super Bowl in
two years, twenty eight three is a painful memory, not
the definition of your franchise.

Speaker 12 (27:55):
Yeah, marvh So the Lions, you always have to bring
up twenty four until they win, right, I.

Speaker 2 (28:06):
Guess I don't know if we bring that up the
way we bring up twenty eight three, because that was
the Super Bowl. That was Tom Brady, the Patriots, you know,
the Lions. We didn't know if they were ready for
that moment they were up twenty four to seven. I
don't think people go, man, twenty four to seven, and.

Speaker 12 (28:23):
It was halfway through the third quarter they were up
twenty eight to three. I can't believe they lost that game.

Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, you know, it defies logic. That's why you can
never say never about a sporting event. Whenever somebody goes, oh,
that will never happen, it can like just some of
the craziest, most preposterous things when you go, how did
that happen? I didn't see that happen. But I guess

(28:51):
we still have the license to be able to say
to a Falcon fan, hey man, that quarterback situation's crazy.
But twenty three what yeah, Mark, What.

Speaker 12 (29:04):
Do you say to somebody when you're watching a game
and you don't have like a dog in the fight,
and you're watching a game with somebody who who's a
fan and they just lost in any terrible fashion, Like,
do you just not say anything to them?

Speaker 2 (29:18):
I wouldn't say anything. I would just go all right,
you're on your own, you're deep into your own thoughts,
process it, and then come on up for air and
then we could talk about it. But if you're gonna
go hey, yeah, that's tough. Nothing nothing consoles you. You
have to do it yourself. There's nothing, and you know,

(29:40):
unless somebody goes, you know, here there's a beer. Thanks, yes, Todd.

Speaker 1 (29:45):
You also really need to.

Speaker 17 (29:45):
Understand the personality of that fan. There's one that's like
that really sucks in your bum.

Speaker 16 (29:50):
That could be violent, angry, throwing things, punching, a wall
fan where one look or one comment could set them
over the edge.

Speaker 4 (29:55):
You better really know who you're doing with.

Speaker 11 (29:57):
You know that person has bigger problems, by the way
then their sports team losing.

Speaker 2 (30:02):
If they're punching walls, Yeah, yelling and screaming, yeah.

Speaker 11 (30:05):
The violent screaming, punching things, smashing things, That persons much
bigger problems.

Speaker 13 (30:10):
Yeah.

Speaker 10 (30:10):
Yes.

Speaker 7 (30:11):
I think with a guy like robbing the back and
the Knicks, you'd like to go back and say, hey, man,
you know you got to be feel great about next year.
You're gonna get healthy runs and looks like a superstar.
I don't know if that person wants to hear it, though.
In that moment, you want to say positive things, like
if you were talking to a Lions fan like Ray,
they lost, but look at their roster. You want to
say them, you're in such great shape and blah blah blah.

(30:31):
But I don't think the person who's in the pain
can hear it.

Speaker 2 (30:35):
I'm not in the business of consoling. And you know,
it's just there's nothing you can really say. That person
has to console themselves. They have to understand it and
and kind of have some clarity of Okay, we had
a good year, and then you could kind of piggyback
whatever they say we had a good year. Yeah, you
had a great year. You know we got we can

(30:56):
build on this. Yeah. Yeah, But I don't think when
you're doing the bullet points going hey you had a
great year. No we didn't. We lost. Well, you know
you got a roster you can build on. Yeah. We
can't create that magic again. Like it. You know, it
doesn't do any good.

Speaker 12 (31:13):
Yes, Mark, Yeah, that sense of urgency just kind of
feels like it was all or nothing this year. Because
I always say, the worst thing somebody says is oh,
you guys to be back. No, you don't know, Sorry,
we'll be back.

Speaker 2 (31:26):
Yes.

Speaker 12 (31:27):
Look, if I say the two thousand and three Cubs
young carry, would young Mark pryor that whole team looked
prime to make a run for another two or three years. No,
that's not the case.

Speaker 2 (31:38):
Uh, Tony and Tucson, Hey Tony, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 13 (31:43):
Hey man? What's going out?

Speaker 2 (31:44):
Hey Tom?

Speaker 13 (31:46):
Hey man? I want to give you my best and
the worst.

Speaker 2 (31:49):
Uh.

Speaker 13 (31:49):
I want to start by saying, Man, I want and
I work at home and I do uh the peacock
I did on my voice recorder. Let's say jrrih. Patrick's
show like Shaq and uh. It always picks it up
on me. But my wife looks at me like, well,
why do you do that? You have to do it
that way. But that's the way I do it. I
love the shack and uh, but my best friend is

(32:10):
the golf they haw. Uh. Xander seems like a great dude.
He's he's missed just by a touch for a lot
of weeks, and then he won with great dignity. And
then Bryson showed a ton of class. Kind of made
me a fan again a Bryson the way that he
uh he gave kudos and the way the way he

(32:33):
took second like a chant.

Speaker 10 (32:34):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (32:35):
But these guys, you know, for the most part, there's
a lot of respect. I think because of the live
tour you know, we feel like maybe there's some build
in animosity. Most of these golfers. Respect these golfers because
what they're trying to do is really, really difficult. And
Xander Schaffley played well. He went wire to wire. That
doesn't happen in majors very often. We had to move

(32:58):
more phone calls here. Coming up, we'll take break consoling
a friend. If you have a story, we'd love to
hear that. And our good buddy Jim Jackson Turner's Sports
NBA An lest will join us coming up. Final hour.
More of your phone calls after this.

Speaker 1 (33:12):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (33:22):
Eiler's Canucks Game seven tonight. Get two more phone calls
coming up. Jim Otto passed away. I think he was
in his mid eighties and he was the center for
the Raiders long time. He played all of those years,
every year that the Raiders were in the AFL, he
played there. He's a Hall of Famer and part of

(33:43):
the All AFL team of all time. And I think
he had an I'm gonna guess I'm trying to do
this off memory. He had over seventy surgeries in his career,
at least I believe that's around the number. Yeah, PAULI.

Speaker 10 (33:58):
Yeah.

Speaker 7 (33:59):
In the bio on him, the said he had seventy
four surgeries. By his count, he said he had about
twenty concussions. He played fifteen seasons without missing a game,
two hundred and ten straight regular season games to twenty
three including the playoffs. He was number double zero and
wore one of like the two bar almost like a
thisman facement.

Speaker 2 (34:18):
Yeah, you didn't have the usual mask that you would
have for an offensive lineman. He was his center. And
you know, he was one of those guys that just
played in Ironman and when you watch NFL films, he'd
be one of those guys. He just look like a
football player and lived to be in his mid eighties,
just passed away over the weekend. You know, there's certain

(34:38):
players that just stay with you when you're growing up
when you see them, you see them play and what
that means to you at the time. And the Raiders
always made me nervous just as a fan because my
team playing against the Raiders, it just felt like the
Raiders that was an outlaw gang that was a biker gang.
And you know, meanwhile I had like the Peace Corps.

(35:00):
You know, You're like, this isn't gonna go well somehow,
some way, like where'd they get these guys? And they
all odd shapes. You know, you had the Mad Stork
what was he six to seven? Ted Hendricks. You're like, hey,
they got a six to seven linebacker. That's not fair.
It just felt like this is you know, Kenny Stabler.
There was nobody like Kenny Stabler, had long hair, loved

(35:24):
to drink, partier like he was more of a partier
than Joe Namath was. Joe Namath gave you the image
that he was a partier. He was just a ladies man.
Kenny Stabler was a partier and a ladies man. But
everything about them, Fred Bulittnikov, Jack Tatum, Lester Hayes, even

(35:46):
John Madden didn't look like your typical coach. He looked
looked like the shirt was barely you know, tucked in
and had the tie and he did running out there.
Barrel chested, yes, Mark.

Speaker 12 (35:58):
Like guys like Art Shell. They had those big army bars. Yeah,
they looked insane. Arm pads yeah, yeah, arm pads yes, Todd, but.

Speaker 17 (36:06):
Even guys like Matuzak, ol Zato, Dave Dolby, these they
looked scary, they played scary, and they had to look
before they even got in the field.

Speaker 4 (36:13):
They didn't want any part of them.

Speaker 2 (36:14):
Yeah, it's just there was something about them, like the
Steelers had mean Joe Green and he looked like and
played like he's mean Joe Green. But they didn't have
that same image that the Raiders had. Like the Raiders
were outlaws, were embracing it. Your owner embraces this everything
about the Raiders. And you know the silver and black.

(36:34):
May they never change that uniform never never. Robert in Orlando,
Hey Robert, welcome, Welcome.

Speaker 3 (36:42):
Back, Dan and the guys are all doing this morning
of man, what a wonderful weekend of sportsman. I got
all my besties rolled together.

Speaker 6 (36:50):
Man.

Speaker 3 (36:50):
Started out of the morning at my favorite British pub
watching the Low English Premier League.

Speaker 10 (36:55):
That was awesome.

Speaker 3 (36:57):
Went from there to my favorite nineteenth all to watch
the off in the next game, how to take a
shot of tourt, all to make it to the next
top to Washington Nugs to wash the Nugs game. But
all in all, what a wonderful sports weekend man.

Speaker 13 (37:11):
Thank you Dan.

Speaker 2 (37:11):
All right, buddy, I didn't get a pain injection. That's
that's wire to wire. I can't do it. I can't
day drink, can't do it. People asking how was Neil Young?
The concert that I went to, Neil Young and Crazy Horse.
It was good. I got to see Neil Young. He's
seventy eight, still sounds incredible, still a great guitar player.

(37:36):
But it was a jam band feel, so there were
there was a lot of jamming going on. I'm not
a jam band.

Speaker 7 (37:43):
Guy, like eighteen minute songs.

Speaker 2 (37:46):
He did one that was fifteen minutes. That was the
first song. Didn't play the hits that you would think,
but he was playing with Crazy Horse, which you know
they've been around, you know, with each other fish years,
probably maybe longer. And I wanted to hear a couple
more hits there. And I even I said to my wife,

(38:07):
I said, hun, there's gonna be a lot of jamming
going on, and she goes, what do you mean. I said, well,
you're you're going to experience it. And then first song
and she goes, is this the way the whole concert's
going to be? And I go, no, no. But there
was a lot more jamming there. Then it was it

(38:28):
was more fish type concert. There's great, great musicians, but
I like the hits. Yes, Marv, so was Billy Joel
perfect for you. Billy Joel was great. They just play
the hits. They go to the next hit, play the hits.
That's great, Fine with that. Play the hits now if
you want to get squirrely with the song and give

(38:50):
me something different, guitar solo, and I'm fine with that.
So I got yell at Hoody and the Blowfish when
they do Hold My Hand, but then they they go
halfway through it and they they kind of morph into
another song and then they come back and play the end.
I go, no, no, no, just play the end. People
coming to see Hold my Hand they don't want to
because you guys are bored playing that song. I got

(39:14):
to do something to switch this up a little bit.
Gary in Texas, Good morning Gary, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 6 (39:22):
Good morning Dan Patrick. I'm just giving you a call.
You were talking about twenty age of three. Yeah, the Falcon.
I'm a huge Falcons fan since since birth, and I
had a big party at the house for that Super
Bowl obviously because we had never done anything really, and
I'm I'm prancing around like we're everything, and long comes

(39:46):
that second half the fourth quarter and see us lose it.
And y'all were talking about how when can you stop
mentioning the twenty eight to three? Yeah, right now is
about that time, because it's killer. Nobody can say twenty eight,
Nobody can say three. And that's the killer on the
internet as well on Facebook, no matter what it is.

(40:08):
If it's three twenty eight, people bringing up, if it's
twenty to three, people bringing up, you know, the time
is just three. Twenty eight is terrible. March twenty eighth
is terrible.

Speaker 13 (40:17):
It's all. It's the worst.

Speaker 6 (40:20):
So and they come at us constantly. So thank you.
My side note I posted I posted a I tagged
y'all in a picture. I was wearing Marvin's purple T
shirt where it says Marvin, and people came up and
was asking me where that's from. They said they thought
was Martin because they thought was still wrong. I just
want to let y'all know, but I did tag y'all.

Speaker 13 (40:42):
I appreciate you.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Thank you. It's Marvin, not Martin. Inspired by the by
Martin Lawrence, the.

Speaker 12 (40:49):
Ninety six com Yes, the same kind.

Speaker 2 (40:51):
Of But yeah, March the twenty eighth is a tough day,
and three twenty eight in the afternoon tough day. But
just think how much more special it's going to be
when you win that Super Bowl. How does the party
end that Patriots found in Super Bowl? Because you're high, high,

(41:15):
You're you know, you're, you're chatting it up. You can't wait.
You're you're gonna beat Tom Brady, all your boys are there,
and then all of a sudden, it's a see it, Tom,
see it, Jimmy, see it, Mike
