You are listening to The Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.
Speaker 1 (00:22):
It's our two on this Monday, Dan and the Dance
Dan Patrick Show. Not fully assembled, seat and we'll be
back tomorrow. But Fritzy's here, Marvin's here, PAULI and yours
truly more phone calls coming up. We'll talk some baseball
at the All Star break. What are the Angels do
if they're out of a playoff race for a wild
card spot. We'll talk to Jeff Passing from the Mothership.
(00:44):
He'll join us. Coming up. Also Dave mcmanhamon, who covers
the NBA for ESPN. He was at Victor one Bayama's
first two games in the Summer League. We'll have him
assess or give out a grade for Victor one Bayama.
I would just say it's a passing grade, that's all. No,
I didn't get caught up in Oh my god. Yeah,
(01:05):
he's too thin, he's gonna get roughed up. He's not
that good, can't live up to the hype. It was
one game. He looked nervous, and why not. You're supposed
to be as impactful as Lebron James. You're nineteen years
of age, You're coming to a new country. All eyes
are on you now, one of the biggest crowds they've
ever had in the Summer League. Yeah, he was nervous.
(01:27):
He was nervous during a shoot around for San Antonio
Spurs season ticket holders where he didn't make a shot.
He was like one for seven. Well, it felt like
he was still doing that in his first game where
he didn't shoot well from the floor. But if I
overreact there, then I have to overreact to what we
saw last night where he was wonderful. But it is
(01:50):
summer league basketball, and you got to factor that in.
You're not playing against great players, not playing against great
big men. This is an AAU type feel, a G
League type feel. There's a lot of bad basketball being played.
But I'm just looking for little things. What does he do?
And I mentioned this first hour footwork is really important.
(02:13):
You know he's going to be an absolute demon Nemesis.
On the defensive end. That's where he'll make his impact.
He'll make it on the defensive end. And Tim Duncan
was a wonderful defensive player. David Robinson was a great
defensive player. You must be that kind of player, that
kind of big man if you're playing for Greg Popovich
and Victor Wan Bayama will embrace that. A lot of
(02:35):
guys don't want to play defense, but Victor one Bayama
is like, that's part of what I'm being asked to do.
Speaker 2 (02:41):
I do it well.
Speaker 1 (02:42):
And I think the offensive part of this will take
a little while. I think, you know, he's going to
have those moments where you go, he's overmatched, and he
will be when he plays against you know, the Joker
or Embiid some of these.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Players, You're going to go, Okay, he's not ready for this.
He's nineteen.
Speaker 1 (03:01):
That's where you have to slow your role because eventually,
when he puts it all together, look out, it'll be
like Yannis, because Yannis still if he adds a jumper,
then it's over with. Nobody will be as good as him.
In my opinion, now, Joker to me is the best
player in basketball, but Jannis was there before, and it
(03:25):
won't take long for Victor Wan Bayama. If we fast
forward five years, what are we talking about, Well, we'll
be talking about Joker, maybe at the tail end of
his career. Yannis will be maybe still holding onto his
prime Joe Ellenbiid, We're not quite sure, but there will
be other players who emerge as well. But if you
(03:45):
give me him in five years and I'm buying a
stock Man, I'm buying it for the long haul, because
that's Google.
Speaker 3 (03:51):
Yes, Marv, I feel like they should create a new
stat if there's not already not one called shots altered. Yeah,
because he's going to alter way more shots. He might
be the type of guy that averages maybe like two
and a half blocks, but he might have seven altered shots.
Speaker 1 (04:07):
Well, we had a couple of those last night where
guys shot airballs. But you're right, and I don't know.
I thought, gosh, they were so stats heavy. I would
be shocked if they don't have shots altered, or how
about airballs? How many airballs does he cause? Because then
you could say he did alter that. If you miss
(04:27):
a shot, I don't know if he altered it, but
you were seeing guys airball, Yeah, Paulie.
Speaker 4 (04:33):
I found a couple of different places that shots altered,
shots affected, but I can't find an official stat or
someone has put it together.
Speaker 1 (04:39):
Maybe we need to have one for him because I
think he's going to average probably four block shots again.
Speaker 5 (04:44):
And five altars. Yes, man, it's six alters.
Speaker 2 (04:48):
Ton, he's the altar boy. Okay, yeah, okay, Todd, Yeah,
all right, I mean business, I'm vacation's over, buddy. Let's go.
Speaker 5 (04:57):
Is it shots affected with an EU effect? With an A?
I've never remember that.
Speaker 2 (05:02):
One about time. We'll ask you is it E affected
or A effected?
Speaker 6 (05:07):
I think it would be effected. I think effect means
like the result. You could put the word result. That's
when you use effect. Effect is how it like it
affects you, Like if you take something and it upsets
your stomach, it affected you.
Speaker 2 (05:17):
So he could be he could be effectively effective.
Speaker 5 (05:21):
Yes with A yeah, maybe maybe maybe.
Speaker 1 (05:26):
But but he's effective. But he affected the shot. If
you're affecting the shot, that means you're affected.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Okay, all right. Poll question for hour two is going
to be one Ton.
Speaker 7 (05:39):
We're going to go with what do you think of
this one?
Speaker 2 (05:41):
Well? How about recapping hour one.
Speaker 6 (05:43):
Okay, recapping hour one, we have the following numbers for you.
Second here because I moved away.
Speaker 1 (05:49):
By the way, Kevin Hart is taking the stage in Vegas.

(06:10):
if you haven't done so, Yes, Hunt, What would.
Speaker 7 (06:12):
You most like to know?
Speaker 6 (06:13):
The outcome of Lillard Trade Holding Firm at forty one percent,
when Banyama's career thirty six percent, other sixteen percent, Northwestern
Investigation at five percent.
Speaker 1 (06:23):
All right, we'll talk about Northwestern coming up here in
a moment, it feels like Dame's going to Miami. It's
Miami or bust. And then the question is what do
the Miami Heat give to the Portland Trailblazers. Sir right
eight seven to seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick
dot com Twitter handle a TP show. I got some
more information what the PAC twelve is going to do.
(06:47):
We know that San Diego State was opting out of
the Mountain West and they did so, and from what
I'm told, they had to do so before June thirtieth
or they were going to pay even more of an
exit fee. They had to pay I think eight teen million,
and it would have been perhaps double that if they
waited after June thirtieth. I think San Diego State, from
(07:07):
what I'm told, thought that the PAC twelve would then
welcome them in. But the PAC twelve is waiting for
a TV deal. That's what I found out Friday night
when I got back from vacation. Found you know, one
of my college football sources reached out and said, hey,
I know that you reported San Diego State was going
to go to the PAC twelve months ago. From what
(07:29):
you know, I'm finding out, it feels like it's closed
to being a done deal that San Diego State is
going to go to the PAC twelve. They're waiting for
the TV deal to be announced. I said, Okay, is
SMU going to join the PAC twelve. SMU's presence in
Texas is huge, and my source said, who's affiliated at
least on the periphery with San Diego State, said that
(07:53):
SMU the presence in Texas is really important, and that's
what it is it's it's almost like a game of risk.
But it's the United States where these conferences want states.
They want to be able to dominate a state, have
a presence in a state. That's why San Diego State
to the PAC twelve. You got to have them because
you have to have a school in southern California. You
(08:15):
don't have that since UCLA and USC are going to
the Big Ten. So the exit fee SMU's presidence in Texas,
San Diego State in southern California. And then I asked
my source. They said, well, there's been talk reports of
maybe Boise State. My source said, academics will be a
(08:37):
negative with Boise State with PAC twelve and their standards,
and they don't have great sports teams in other sports.
They had the novelty, the fun part of Boise State,
the blue field. But my source said, you know, they're
also looking at do you have a good basketball team?
You know, do you have other sports that you can
(08:59):
contribute to the PAC twelve, which is very important. And
then I ask about UNLV and my source said, I
don't get it, but unless it's to have presence in Vegas,
then I understand that. But that's the information I have
on the PAC twelve. It still feels like San Diego
State is going to the PAC twelve. SMU will be
(09:22):
going to the PAC twelve. Boise State, I guess is
a chance. It was referred to me as a long shot,
but my source said, I said, isn't a long shot,
and he goes, well, it's questionable, And I said, what
about UNLV? He goes, questionable? But they may be looking
to add for schools here. They're going to add two,
(09:43):
but do you add two more? And do you bring
in UNLV and do you bring in Boise State? Those
are just some of the things that have been I
guess behind the scenes transpiring here since San Diego State
opted out of the Mountain West and a lot of
people looked at that and said they made a mistake there.
Now they know what they're doing. I think they thought
(10:04):
that the PAC twelve is going to embrace them and
say come on in San Diego State. They're still waiting
to get it. Why is it the Live Tour can
get a TV deal and the PAC twelve can't get
a TV deal.
Speaker 2 (10:17):
You gotta be kidding me, Yeah, punk.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Does this drive you crazy? As an old school college
football fan? The PAC twelve not having USC and UCLA.
I know that ship has sailed, but it's just that's
the basis of the Pac twelve. I know LA is
not a hot spot for college football, but they had
the tradition of USC and the Rose Bowl, and UCLA
had good years here and there, but USC was in
trench for a while.
Speaker 2 (10:40):
I know.
Speaker 5 (10:41):
It's frustrating, I know.
Speaker 1 (10:43):
And they always talk about student athlete. You can't care
about the student while caring about the athlete. You can't
because the travel that's going to be involved with all
of those student athletes.
Speaker 2 (10:54):
Hey, you gotta game in Rutgers going to Maryland? Yeah great.
You know it's it's greed.
Speaker 1 (11:03):
And that's why nobody can complain about anything anymore, because
it feels like from all sides, all those players are
asking for too much, all the name image and like
to well, okay, and what did you do? Yeah, Texas
and Oklahoma, Well we're leaving the here, we're going to
the SEC. Well in Ucla, USC we're going to the
Big Ten. The old school in me is like, you know,
it's disappointing because you know, I grew up in the
(11:26):
with the Big Ten. I don't want ucla USC there.
I liked them in the Pac twelve. I liked watching
them from Afar and then going all right, maybe in
the Rose Bowl we'll get our butt kick like we
always do whenever we went out there and faced USC.
But now you're adding them rut like I could see
(11:47):
if they go, you know what, we're gonna take them.
We're gonna get rid of Rutgers in Maryland. But I like,
who wants to see these programs? USC is a big deal,
And I get it. Everybody once they're on's their chair,
the musical chairs here.
Speaker 2 (12:02):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (12:03):
Everybody wants to make their money there. But at what
point do you say, I think we're doing a disservice
to the kids because people keep telling me it's all
about the kids.
Speaker 2 (12:12):
No, it's not.
Speaker 1 (12:13):
It's about grown ups who dictate what the kids are
going to do. And then when you're not allowed to
dictate to them with name, image and likeness, you get
guys like Nick Saban and Dabbo Sweeney or you know wine.
They're getting too much. They're ruining college football. No, no,
grown ups are doing a good job, not just the players. Yeah,
poland how about this, here's the thing for the Big Ten.
The Big Ten gets Notre Dame, but they have to
(12:35):
give back UCLA, USC Maryland and Rutgers. Send them back
to their respective coasts, and we'll take Notre Dame, which,
by the way, I'll put okay ooh, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, Okay,
save it. No, no, no, I just wanted to make
sure that I was prepared. You're loosening up here, you're
doing your exercises here before you drop a bomb.
Speaker 5 (12:55):
What year is it, twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Three, Yeah, Notre Dame.
Speaker 4 (12:59):
Notre Dame is playing football full time in the Big
Ten by.
Speaker 5 (13:04):
Twenty twenty seven.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Pie did the face, Yeah, ice bag to the ice
bag to the groin, Yeah, yes, see likes that one.
Speaker 3 (13:15):
Wait, Paula Paully, don't do that. Why would you get
rid of Rutgers. You're taking away the.
Speaker 5 (13:19):
New York I know, northern New Jersey market.
Speaker 7 (13:23):
They do that, and I was like, it's piscataway.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
I know.
Speaker 1 (13:25):
I love that they tried to when they're like, yeah,
you know what, Big Ten wants to have that New
York market.
Speaker 2 (13:33):
There's no New York market for college football. They don't care.
Speaker 7 (13:36):
You guys are underestimating New Brunswick. I really believe.
Speaker 4 (13:39):
Oh yeah, yeah by twenty twenty so I was gonna
say twenty twenty six.
Speaker 5 (13:43):
But things take a while.
Speaker 1 (13:44):
Contract yeah, no, no, no, they break contracts, yes, they remember.
Remember people didn't think they'd break contracts for the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (13:52):
They did.
Speaker 8 (13:53):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
So that's what we know.
Speaker 1 (13:56):
I don't have enough time to get into the Northwestern
story right now, but we'll talk some baseball. What are
the Angels going to do with show? Heyo, Toney. Then
we'll bring up the Northwestern story. More phone calls as well,
if you can be patient with me. There's a lot
of things to talk about, far more than I thought
would be this week. This is usually the slowest part
of the sports calendar, but it is the home run
(14:16):
derby tonight and then the All Star Game tomorrow. We're
just getting ready. We'll take a break here back with
Jeff passing from the Mothership right after this. Thanks for
listening to The Dan Patrick Show podcast. Be sure to

to you by Patadi America, the official trading cards to
the Dan Patrick Show. Odds to win the home run Derby.
Anybody want to take a guess, Todd, I'll start with you.
(15:00):
The odds on favorite according to DraftKings to win Tonight's
home run Derby.
Speaker 7 (15:04):
I know I'm wrong, but I'm gonna go with Mooki Betts.
Speaker 2 (15:06):
Why do you go? I know I'm wrong just because
I did.
Speaker 7 (15:09):
Not know it's gonna pick Mooki Bets, but I'm gonna
say Mookie Bett.
Speaker 2 (15:11):
Mooky Bets is a long shot there, Marvin, I'm gonna
go Vlad Glad Guerrero Junior. The third is second, Paulie.
Speaker 5 (15:19):
Pete Alonso takes it seriously.
Speaker 1 (15:20):
Pete Alonzo's your favorite, slight favorite over Vlad Guerrero Junior.
The third, Julio Rodriguez is going to be my pick.
Local hero makes good. Jeff passon ESPN Senior Baseball Insider.
He is joining us from the City of Seattle Home
Run Derby tonight at eight eastern on the mother Ship
and ESPN two, I'm curious, at what point do you
(15:44):
become an insider and do you declare yourself an insider
or or are you designated an insider?
Speaker 8 (15:54):
Dan, I've been an outsider my entire life, so I
have no idea at which point I became an insider.
And it was one hundred percent definitively not a self
appointed title. Okay, So I'm going to leave that to
the to the others and just ride the wave as
long as I can.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
All right, serious question here.
Speaker 1 (16:18):
Can the commissioner put Elie dela Cruz into the All
Star Game?
Speaker 2 (16:24):
Yes?
Speaker 8 (16:26):
Oh, okay, he actually has like there's like a commissioner's
discretion choice where he could where he could have done that,
and he did not, And he didn't because you know,
I think, generally speaking, the commissioner in the many many
years that this has been available, and by that I
(16:47):
mean I think it's been like once that he's done
this with Miguel Cabrera last year. You know, it tends
to be for a a veteran player, a player who
is sailing off into the sunset, and that's the opposite
of Elie Dela Cruz. But you know, if there were
(17:09):
some sort of special dispensation for player who's awesome and
just broke onto the scene and warrant inclusion. Yes, I
would love to see that now. I will give MLB
credit for this. They invited Elie Dela Cruz to the
Home Run Derby and he declined the ambitation. I don't know, Dan,
(17:36):
don't you think the Derby is like almost more of
an event now than the game itself. I mean, if
he's at the Derby, he's going to be at all
the festivities, he's going to be on national television. He's
going to be doing the thing that you like seeing
him do, which is hit balls really far, among many
(17:58):
other things. But I don't think that the difference between
a Derby invitation and All Star invitations all that different anymore.
In fact, at derby invitations a lot rarer than an
All Star invitation, considering every one in their mom gets
an All Star invitation now because of all the injuries
and guys who are pulling out.
Speaker 2 (18:17):
Yeah, I guess you're right.
Speaker 1 (18:18):
I mean, you know, the nation wouldn't be aware of
Julio Rodriguez maybe as much because of you know, home
un Derby. Pete Alonzo has made a name or a
bigger name for himself there at the home un Derby.
Speaker 2 (18:29):
I get it.
Speaker 1 (18:30):
Plus you would be able to have him exposed to
the media in different markets that maybe wouldn't be following
the Cincinnati Reds. And you know, baseball needs more of
these stories. It feels like the story is does show
Heyo Tani stay with the Angels? If you're the Angels,
do you trade him? What happens at the trade deadline?
How much is he gonna, you know, bring in as
(18:52):
far as a contract there that that is just a
looming cloud. I don't know if it's a dark cloud,
but it's a looming cloud over major League Baseball.
Speaker 8 (19:03):
Oh yeah, I don't think it's a dark cloud at all.
I think the fact that Major League Baseball has a
storyline that is going to extend well into the NFL
season and be news and be like genuine and legitimate
news is a great thing for baseball. You know, once
the NFL starts in every other sport has a really
(19:26):
difficult time getting market share. To put it very bluntly,
the NFL is such a leviathan. It is such like
an unrelenting beast on our attention that baseball always runs
the risk of fading into the background and becoming a
(19:47):
sport whose postseason is consumed only by fans of the
teams that are in it, and the idea that you're
going to have this thing, this event in the offseason.
That is the most talented player we've ever seen becoming
a free agent and getting the largest contract in North
(20:08):
American sports history.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
Oh so you don't think anything happens at the trade deadline.
You think this story is going to be in the
off season.
Speaker 8 (20:16):
Oh no, no, no, no no, I'm not suggesting that
right now. I'm just looking months ahead. I think the
trade deadline is turning into a fascinating case because I
think everyone who's thinking logically in Front's offices right now
believes that the Angels should trade Otani before the deadline,
(20:39):
not just because they want him for.
Speaker 2 (20:42):
Their own way.
Speaker 1 (20:43):
Things really changed in the last two weeks with Trout
injured and they've lost nine of ten and now all
of a sudden, Okay, but let's add some logic to this.
We're talking to the Baseball inCider Jeff Pinson for the Mothership. Okay,
if I'm the Angels and I go to show a
agent and I say, are you going to test the
(21:03):
market or do you want to start negotiations now? Just
let us know one way or another, because we as
a franchise have to do what's best for us. And
while we want to resign him, if you guys are
going to test the market, we run the risk of
not getting anything for him. Has that conversation? Have those
conversations taken place?
Speaker 8 (21:28):
I think that conversations like that have taken place at
some point. I don't know how recently they but I got.
Speaker 2 (21:37):
To know that, Jeff.
Speaker 1 (21:39):
If I'm the angels, I have to say to Otani
and his representative help us.
Speaker 2 (21:44):
Let us know.
Speaker 1 (21:46):
You want to stay here, We're going to make accommodations.
But if you want to test the market, then you're
testing our patients here and we're going to run the
risk of not getting anything when the Dodgers come in
and decide that every night's going to be Japanese Heritage night.
Speaker 7 (22:00):
There.
Speaker 8 (22:05):
I don't disagree with your premise here, but I also
I also think you're simplifying it a little more not
than as logical. You are being extremely logical right now.
I think you're simplifying it more than is realistic. And
I say that because The way that Artie Moreno, the
Angels owner, looks at it is that we have a
(22:28):
once in a lifetime player, and I'm not going to
be the fool who traded him, and we're not going
to give another team an opportunity to essentially spend the
last two months of the season not just winning with him,
but recruiting him.
Speaker 1 (22:43):
And you could be the fool who didn't get anything
for him.
Speaker 8 (22:49):
You're right, and that has been the Angel's path the
entire time, that they're going to be the fools who
get like the seventy the overall pick instead of getting
an enormous trade haul and re energizing your your farm
system at the deadline and building a new Los Angeles
(23:12):
Angels without arguably the greatest player ever. The conundrum here
is not what is the right thing to do? All
of us know what the right thing to do is Dan.
The conundrum is, can the owner, who has been shooting
himself in the foot for essentially the past two decades,
(23:36):
can he do what the right thing to do is,
as opposed to letting his emotions about the whole situation
overwhelm him into not because I don't think the Angels
are making playoffs.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Now, all right, what would you do? What would you
do with Otona? Oh?
Speaker 8 (23:53):
My god, I would train him absolutely if I were
if I were the owner of the Ages, I would
say show hey, thank you for your service. We need
to do what's right for this organization. We hope that
you're part of it. We understand though, after six years
of not winning, why you wouldn't want to be.
Speaker 2 (24:13):
And your first call would be to which organization?
Speaker 8 (24:17):
I wouldn't have to make any calls.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
I would.
Speaker 8 (24:20):
I would spend the next two weeks for twenty four
hours on the phone with everybody begging me to take
their trade. And I would. I would leverage it so hard.
And you know I would love to do it with
the Dodgers.
Speaker 1 (24:34):
But would Artie Moreno, not want to send him to
the Dodgers because of the proximity, of course, but then
you have.
Speaker 8 (24:42):
What do you want to send them to the Giants? No,
because they're going to be in the next Now I'm
okay with the Giants.
Speaker 1 (24:47):
I can't have him with the Dodgers. Like the Giants,
I could see, and damn.
Speaker 8 (24:53):
Your whole here's the thing, you're your your logic here
falls on its face. If you trade him. You trade
him because you're looking to get the best package back.
You need to divorce yourself.
Speaker 1 (25:06):
I agree, I agree, But this is an owner, the
ego of the owner of having Otani just down the road,
and maybe we didn't get the best deal. But I
can't be reading about him in the La Times every day.
I can't see him on the local news every day.
Put him in San Francisco or some other place.
Speaker 8 (25:28):
You know, Toni and I, you know, I like Otani
in Atlanta.
Speaker 9 (25:35):
Oh god, I just want to see him on that team.
Speaker 2 (25:38):
Oh my god, just to see how good.
Speaker 8 (25:42):
They can be, because they are a really, really okay.
Speaker 2 (25:46):
Paulie thinks the Braves.
Speaker 1 (25:47):
He said the Braves could win one hundred and sixteen
games in the preseason. He said, the Braves will win
one hundred and sixteen games.
Speaker 8 (25:56):
I think they've lost too many to get to one
sixteen flake, isn't is it one hundred and sixteen like
a forty six lost season. They don't have twenty nine already.
Speaker 1 (26:07):
Yeah, well, there's you can't say no chance. It's low chance, Yes,
low chance.
Speaker 8 (26:13):
I did pick them to win the World Series before
the season, so I'm with you, Polly. I wasn't going
one hundred and sixteen wins. It's a little aggressive.
Speaker 2 (26:21):
Well, Jeff, thank you.
Speaker 1 (26:22):
Enjoy the festivities there home run Derby tonight on the
mother Ship at eight eastern. He's a senior baseball insider,
not to be confused with justin insider. He's Jeff Passing. Jeff,
thank you for taking the time.
Speaker 8 (26:35):
Thanks buddy, have a good one and enjoy the Derby tonight.
Speaker 2 (26:38):
That's Jeff Passon.
Speaker 1 (26:40):
Probably had some cigarettes and whiskey before he came on,
because he does try to out voice me occasionally. Yeah,
you could hear. Definitely, probably practiced in the mirror a
little bit like no other day. I didn't designate myself
an insider, of course I would trade showho Tonny. A
(27:00):
couple of phone calls in here Best and Worst of
the weekend Buddha in San Francisco. Buddha, thanks for holding
and welcome back to the program.
Speaker 9 (27:10):
Well, welcome back to you boys and Dan. Who likes
it when you guys take a week off?
Speaker 2 (27:17):
Nod we do VP.
Speaker 9 (27:22):
I got it, I got it. I got a question
for you to while I give you while I give
you my best and worst of the weekend. The Inner
salmon wine guy and me, Dan would like to know
what was the best wine you had while I'm break
but first and the worst of the weekend dp All
the haters losing their minds on Friday after Wemby's debut
(27:46):
was like, people need to pump the break. The kid's
only nineteen. So and best of the weekend DP Elie
Dela Cruz just showing off in stealing bags on the
diamond while the other team looked around like boys on
a league team. You don't see that every day. That
was pretty awesome. So you guys have a good week, all.
Speaker 2 (28:05):
Right, Thank you, Buddha. I had a bottle of Sea
Smoke Pino noir.
Speaker 1 (28:11):
Hard to get, great bottle, little pricey, but I had
a couple of bottles of not at the same time
of Sea Smoke. There, let's see Craig in California. Hi, Craig,
what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (28:27):
Garn are you there? Yeah, Craig, Hey, Bud Hey, first time,
long time, six foot hard. I loved it when Ashton
Kutcher did that. I'm just giving you guys, Yeah, just
(28:48):
give you guys a love. You guys do such a
great job. I'm a truck driver. But I caught you
on Serious XM. Been listening to you guys forever and
just a great program. I love you guys.
Speaker 2 (29:10):
Well, thank you, Craig. It's nice.
Speaker 1 (29:13):
Didn't have a best or worst of the weekend, no complaint,
it was just something nice. It just appreciates us, including you.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Todd, including me.
Speaker 7 (29:22):
Yeah, that's very nice.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Yeah he didn't say that, but I could tell it
feels inclusive when he said that minute. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
I'll take it. Brandon in Texas, hy Brandon.
Speaker 11 (29:38):
Great, Hey bears, we got to get back to this
bear thing before somebody accidentally gets eaten. So black bears
and grizzly bears both both himself proclaimed bear insider here
by the way, both both black bears and grizzly bears
climb trees. Black bears are doing regularly, doesn't matter if
their cubs are full size. And if it's black, you
(30:01):
fight back, if it's brown, you lay down. If it's white,
say good night because you're not gonna make it.
Speaker 7 (30:06):
So those are the rule.
Speaker 11 (30:09):
To get that clear before somebody other gets hurt and
you guys get blamed for it.
Speaker 1 (30:12):
Oh I'm not got to get blamed for it. I
didn't see a bear. I was just told about that.
But Brandon, thank you. Yeah, he went really fast.
Speaker 4 (30:19):
Can we review that because I think he said, with
a black bear, you fight back.
Speaker 2 (30:22):
I don't know O. Tyler just hung up on him.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Figure on our own.
Speaker 1 (30:26):
So brown lay down, Black fight back, White, good night.
Speaker 4 (30:31):
I've seen people up north that people I know who
have bears come in their backyards. They just go out
there and bang pots and pans and kind of yell
at the bear, and the bear takes off like they
don't want any part of it.
Speaker 5 (30:39):
Those are black bears in like Vermont, please like mma.
But I don't know about brown bears.
Speaker 1 (30:45):
All I know is this guy who is a real
outdoorsman was telling me about bears that he had actually encountered,
and I said, hey, you know, do they climb trees?
And then he said, not all bears climb trees, he said,
but cubs can climb trees. Maybe we get, you know,
an actual bear expert who can give us the official
(31:05):
definition of what to do, the strategy of what to
do when you're encountering these bears. Just so I do
a public service announcer, I did not run into any
bears in Montana. I just ran into somebody who is
run into bears before when he was out bow hunting elk.
Speaker 2 (31:24):
That's all I know.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
And he said, you know, until you're twenty feet away
and you you know, you know that this is life
or death.
Speaker 3 (31:35):
Yeah, Mark, is he one of those guys where he
looks like he doesn't wear like an actual like coat.
He just wears like a flannel all year long, like
a coat that's for suckers.
Speaker 1 (31:45):
Now, this guy is named Kelly, and he is a
bad dude. He is a like nicest guy, but he
lives the life. He's in a small, you know cabin,
there's no heat. He cuts like seven cords of wood,
you know, a winter or something does all of that,
(32:07):
goes out and gets his food, you know, kills it
in the mountains and brings it back down.
Speaker 5 (32:11):
Missing a finger, but a great story behind it.
Speaker 2 (32:13):
Yeah, but you know didn't even care that he lost
a finger. Yes, yes, Martin, you said his name was Kelly.
Speaker 3 (32:19):
Yeah, you know he's a tough guy because I'm sure
somebody tried to make fun of him.
Speaker 2 (32:22):
When you're a kid, well, oh your name's Kelly.
Speaker 3 (32:24):
Like Kelly, Tracy, Jamie. People that are guys. Try tried him,
see what happens. Yeah, No, this guy was the real deal.
He was an unbelievable guide, fishing guide, unbelievable. But he's
there all year round.
Speaker 1 (32:37):
That's why it's beautiful in the summertime in Montana and
we're outside of Butte, Montana, and it gets to you know,
you're like, I could live here. Ah, the scenery is gorgeous.
And then I go, what's it like in the winter,
because you don't want to be here in the winter.
And this is from you know, if he was in
a tough man contest, I would back him, but uh,
(33:00):
he just said it gets, you know, really cold, and
nobody goes out. You know, it's it's survival the fittest. Yes, Ton,
I find this fascinating.
Speaker 7 (33:09):
I was doing a little search on bear encounters and
what to do and not do. Number one on.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
This particular list, identify yourself by talking calmly to the
bear so he knows you're a human and I'm some
sort of prey animal.
Speaker 5 (33:21):
But I want to say I'm Pauli from the Dan
Patrick Show and hope he watches.
Speaker 1 (33:24):
Don't you imagine that bear if Todd started talking to
it he'd be like, will you shut up, let me
just eat you?
Speaker 7 (33:31):
Or just to make him so crazy he just run
to the other ve.
Speaker 5 (33:33):
I can't deal with this guy before he bear bored
to death in the woods.
Speaker 7 (33:37):
Slurs can make the essh sound takes.
Speaker 5 (33:40):
On life after being bored for half an hour.
Speaker 1 (33:41):
Yeah, if you start to want to know what my bear,
that could set the bear off.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
He's like, what, what did you just do?
Speaker 6 (33:48):
What's my commute from the tree to the river. He
wasn't even sure if he should have shown up.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
Let's take a break here, introduce yourself to the bear.
Speaker 7 (33:58):
Let's be calmly.
Speaker 2 (33:59):
Thank you, Todd.
Speaker 1 (34:00):

Speaker 1 (34:45):
Best and Worst of the Weekend, Todd, I'm going to
start with you your best and worst of the week.
Speaker 2 (34:50):
How's that my best of the weekend?
Speaker 7 (34:52):
We mentioned it, but it's worth mentioning again.
Speaker 6 (34:54):
Red shorts off Elie de la Cruz dealing second, third
and home after breaking a five to five time with
an RBI single against the Brewers and the seven Saturday.
So he came up big with the bat and with
his legs. First time a Ritz player did this since
nineteen twenty eight. My worst in his Summer League debut
Friday night in Vegas. Sorry, Victor Wimbagama. I know it's
his first game, but look nervous when a poultry two
of thirteen from the field did manage to finish with
(35:15):
nine points, eight boards, three as sists, five blocks.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
So you are overreacting.
Speaker 7 (35:19):
I am overreacting, okay, but I was pleased to see
what he did on Sunday.
Speaker 2 (35:22):
Well that's good, Marvin. Best and worst of the weekend.
Speaker 3 (35:25):
Best of the weekend. I saw the American Gladiators documentary
on Netflix so good. I didn't realize there was so
much drama and scandal going on.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
Oh with the Russell Crowe No American Gladiators, you're talking
about Gladiators movie. Yeah, the movie really good one.
Speaker 1 (35:42):
Oh yeah, I did watch the documentary American Gladiators crazy.
Speaker 2 (35:45):
Yeah, there was some stuff going on behind the scenes there.
Speaker 7 (35:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (35:48):
I think they're doing Gladiator too, but I don't know
who's I don't know if uh Joaquin Phoenix is in
it or Russell Crowe is in it.
Speaker 5 (35:58):
Really, are you being serious?
Speaker 2 (35:59):
Yeah?
Speaker 1 (36:00):
I think I think there's uh Gladiators too. Did you
have anything else, Marvin?
Speaker 3 (36:06):
I don't know if you call this best or worst.
But Bruce Brown getting two years, forty five million dollar
contract from the Pacers after Michael Malone say.
Speaker 2 (36:17):
What did I say to you?
Speaker 1 (36:18):
He was saying, you know a couple of things like
repeating and that Bruce Brown was going to be back,
and and then he had one other thing, and I go,
I don't know if any of those three are going
to happen here, coach. But as soon as he said,
you know, losing Bruce Brown, no, he ain't going nowhere.
Speaker 2 (36:35):
Yeah, I'm like, uh, yeah he is something going to
pay him more money than you, oh for sure. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
Good for Bruce Brown though, Yes, the biggest pay day
he's probably gonna get.
Speaker 1 (36:44):
There's a couple of guys like Max Bruce got paid
by Cleveland, And I went, Dylan Brooks. Is any was
anybody bidding against the Rockets for Dylan Brooks? And if
and if so, like I would love to know, like
the Rockets go, oh gosh, we're gonna have to overpay
for Dylan Brooks. That's a lot of money. Fred van Vliet,
(37:06):
who I said the Rockets needed to sign, they signed him,
and I think it's a great signing for them.
Speaker 4 (37:11):
All right, PAULI I'll throw all my worst of the
weekend Russell Westbrook's contract he got.
Speaker 2 (37:16):
Were you shocked at this?
Speaker 5 (37:17):
I was shocked.
Speaker 4 (37:18):
I thought it was a misprint because he's making what
like the eighth man on the bench or ninth person
on a bench makes for the NBA two years under
eight million dollars total. So it's he makes three point
nine a season. He used to make that a month.
Speaker 2 (37:32):
But what happened? I don't understand that.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
I have not seen a lot of reports about why
he signed it. Did he just want to be friendly
and stay in LA that? The one didn't make sense
is that he wanted to stay as a Clipper and
wanted to make it real friendly for him to stay
a Clipper.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Yeah.
Speaker 1 (37:47):
I was shocked, and I went wait, wait, wait, there
has to be like a three in front of that,
or maybe a two in front of that. Hell, even
a one in front of that four or eight.
Speaker 4 (37:56):
I don't know what he made like two years ago.
I mean he went from that may be the biggest
pay cut in sports history. Two years ago, he's making
thirty one million a year. He's now he's making eight
percent of that.
Speaker 5 (38:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (38:10):
My other I'll go best of the weekend kind of
USA versus Canada last night and shootout penalty kicks.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
Dan went late.
Speaker 4 (38:18):
I know nobody can should not have been even make care,
but he's not here.
Speaker 5 (38:21):
I was doing that for him. Yeah, okay, he's listening on.
Speaker 1 (38:23):
Did you check and see if Gladiators Too is in production?
Speaker 5 (38:28):
I'm looking out. I don't find it yet, Todd, did
you look.
Speaker 7 (38:31):
I'm in the process of looking as well.
Speaker 1 (38:32):
Well, now you are after I said it, you know,
like four minutes ago, then we could have had that.
Speaker 2 (38:37):
Then we would have been timely.
Speaker 1 (38:38):
And then we go, hey, you know what, they're right,
there's a Gladiator too.
Speaker 4 (38:43):
Yeah, it looks like it's Gladiator Too with Pedro Pascal.
Speaker 5 (38:49):
Very popular.
Speaker 1 (38:49):
Oh, he's been sort of the flavor of the Montfy.
Speaker 5 (38:53):
Denzel Washington's in.
Speaker 4 (38:54):
It, unless this is wrong, Zach Alphin.
Speaker 5 (39:00):
And I just like saying that.
Speaker 4 (39:05):
Yeah, it looks like it's a really Scott film, so
it should be sutt it should be subtle.
Speaker 1 (39:09):
Yeah, but Russell Crow's not in Gladiator Gladiator two?
Speaker 2 (39:14):
Is it Gladiator Too or Gladiators Too?
Speaker 5 (39:18):
I got Gladiator Too.
Speaker 2 (39:19):
Gladiator.
Speaker 5 (39:20):
Russell Crowe has to be like the aging veteran who
comes out of retirement.
Speaker 7 (39:24):
You know.
Speaker 1 (39:25):
It's like my It's like he retires like Jordan and
then comes back for the wizard, Yeah, to advise the
young kid.
Speaker 2 (39:30):
Then it doesn't go well.
Speaker 5 (39:31):
Gladiating.
Speaker 4 (39:32):
Yeah, they made Wall Street two and Michael Douglas made
a cameo.
Speaker 5 (39:37):
Yeah. It was terrible. Yeah, but at least they got
him in there. Yeah, Gladiator too, twenty twenty four.
Speaker 4 (39:45):
I don't want to spoil it, but uh, a lot
of people get eaten, eaten, Well that's it.
Speaker 5 (39:50):
In the first one they got bit bit by the
uh they got.
Speaker 2 (39:53):
They got eaten. They didn't get bitten.
Speaker 1 (39:55):
Yeah, they got chewed, but they also killed each other
and Gladiat Sure Russell Crowe was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
Yeah. It's one of those where you go, I don't
know who this guy. Now.
Speaker 1 (40:07):
He was in a movie called was it Romper Stomper?
This might've been the first movie he was ever in,
and I played a skinhead I think in Australia, and
you could you could tell that he had that presence,
that he had that it And that was the first
time I saw him. Is it Romper Stomper? Is that
the name of that movie?
Speaker 2 (40:28):
This is early Russell Krusch, very very very early Russell Crowe.
Speaker 4 (40:32):
Ah Man, I'm looking at his first stuff that he did,
Roper Stumper. He played Hando in nineteen twenty nineteenninety two,
Sorry Night.
Speaker 2 (40:42):
So nineteen ninety two.
Speaker 1 (40:43):
We're talking a long time ago, and I remember seeing
him and I thought, God, that guy's got some charisma.
Speaker 2 (40:49):
All of a sudden he became a big star.
Speaker 4 (40:51):
He was in the Quicken the Dead got a little
popular there. La confidentially played Button White.
Speaker 2 (40:55):
Oh he was created La Confidential. Good movie. Yeah, Bud White, Yeah,
Bud White was great. And uh who was the.
Speaker 1 (41:04):
Female Kim Basinger. Basinger when I saw her in person.
Speaker 5 (41:10):
And eclips she.
Speaker 1 (41:12):
She looked like she was not real, Like her skin
was so like like pristine, like beautiful, like It's one
of those where I'm with my wife and she goes, uh,
you can stop staring. I go, no, I can't. You
know she is spectacular. And she was with Alec Baldwin.
I think at a party an sp or no, uh
(41:33):
pre oscar party that I saw, Yes.
Speaker 4 (41:36):
Baum that other movie Russell Crowey like three ten of Yuma.
That's a good movie. Yeah, good Western.
Speaker 2 (41:41):
Yeah yeah, who is the other guy?
Speaker 5 (41:44):
You love Ben Foster?
Speaker 7 (41:45):
Oh?
Speaker 2 (41:46):
I love Ben Foster actor. He is crazy.
Speaker 1 (41:49):
Final Hour coming up. Dave McManamon from the mother Ship
was there for the first two games or Victor won
by Alma's Summer League debut. He'll join us. That's coming up.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
All Hour
