Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio.

Speaker 2 (00:04):
It's hour two on this Monday, Dan and the Dan
It's Dan Patrick Show. Come on in stay awhile eight
seven to seven to three DP. Show operator Tyler's sitting by,
as we always do every Monday, Best and Worst of
the Weekend. I want to give a shout out small
business Saturday this past weekend. Over the years, we have
aligned with small businesses. Pennies Bang Biscuits made in New Jersey,

(00:28):
Sunbeam General, Gilgamesh Brewing in Oregon, the new audible ale
we're producing Where's My Shirt? Also an Oregon White Dog
Distilling in Rhode Island. They make the tailgate Moonshine Raygun
in Des Moines. So this Cyber Monday, when you shop
at Danpatrick dot com, you're also supporting small businesses like
these all over the country. Danpatrick dot com. All right,

(00:51):
we will I think have a poll question, another poll
question for hour two or do you want to stay
with that powerful one? We had an hour one.

Speaker 3 (00:58):
Powerful pole question on this Monday. Yeah, who had the
worst weekend? Matt Eberflus, Ryan Day, Kirk Cousins or Justin Tucker.
Those are all great options. By the way, Yeah, if
you remove Ryan Day and his sixty four percent of
the vote, Yeah, Matt Eberflus has about twenty five justin
Tucker only Kirk Cousins not getting a lot of attention

(01:21):
with four percent, but still there.

Speaker 2 (01:24):
Yeah, Eberflus loses his job. You would think that that
would be the worst, and it's not worse than Ryan
Day losing against Michigan as a twenty three and a
half point favor all Right, people fired up about my
take on planting the flag. I just know what it
brings about, and that means you're going to have a fight.

(01:45):
That's what it brings about. You're going to have you
win on somebody else's home turf. You go plant the
flag or you want to. You know it's going to
lead to that because those players aren't going to allow
you to let that happen. Ryan Day even said it, Hey,
we're not letting that happen. Florida, Florida State, North Carolina
and North Carolina State. Go back to when Baker Mayfield

(02:07):
did it, when Oklahoma beet Ohio State didn't like it,
then you won. That's the ultimate that's the ultimate scoreboard,
and you can't even plant the flag in the astro
turf to begin with. So you want to take the
Arizona State pitchfork and put it in the ground, You're
just we're asking for this now. I have had some

(02:28):
people who have said the following, Did the United States
taunt other countries when Neil Armstrong planted the American flag
on the moon? Oh yeah, OK So, as a couple
of people have said, if he can plant the flag
on the moon, what's the difference? So can we Well,
there wasn't you know, there wasn't an opposition up there.

(02:53):
So there you imagine if the Russians were up there
and all of a sudden Neil Armstrong goes one small
step for man, one giant leaf forman cut, and then
all of a sudden the Russians they want to fight him,
all right? Eight seven to seven to three, DP show
email address Dpadanpatrick dot com, Twitter handle the DP show
Best and Worst of the weekend. We got Browns Broncos

(03:14):
Broncos by six tonight, the Bills rolled the forty nine ers,
and the MVP is Josh Allen's to lose. He's been
wonderful this year, and you're really it feels like just
seeing a different Josh Allen. I don't know how to
describe it other than it feels like he's more comfortable.

(03:36):
He doesn't have to make sure Stefan Diggs is happy.
You got a really good running back. The defense has
been a whole lot better than I thought, and he's
been wonderful. Here's Josh Allen on dominating the forty nine ers.

Speaker 4 (03:51):
It's a good feeling. This one feels a little bit different.
You know, this early in the season. We still got
five games left. So the cool thing about it, like
you get to go out there, We get to go
out there and we get to play free. Right, there's
really no repercussions for for what we're doing. But at
the same time, we're chasing the one seed. We understand that,
we know that, and we got to keep getting better
each and every week. So but it's it's gonna be fun.

(04:14):
I mean to go out there and play free and
play relax and play loose. I think that's that could
be a dangerous team.

Speaker 2 (04:20):
He's the fourth player since two thousand to have a
rushing touchdown, passing touchdown, and receiving touchdown in the same game. Yeah, no, no,
I was that was I was getting ready to ask
the question. Oh, okay, go ahead. Yeah. Can you name
any of the other three that have had a passing touchdown,

(04:41):
rushing rushing touchdown in a receiving touchdown in the same game. Todd,
Steve Young, Paul Walter Payton, Marvin Jerry, Rice Seaton, Uh,
Michael Vick. One did it two years ago, One did

(05:02):
it in five, One did it in one. Two are
running backs, one is wide receiver, all purpose, yes, Marvin Marshall,
faulk No, Tomlinson, Yes, okay, uh, Ladanian Tomlinson did that
in five. Christian McCaffrey. But here's the big winner. David Patten. Dude,

(05:29):
David Patten. Was he with the Patriots at the time.
David Patten? And oh one, yes, Paul. We would have
been here a while on that one. Yeah you would.

Speaker 5 (05:37):
Hey.

Speaker 6 (05:38):
So Josh Allen gets credit for a receiving touchdown because
Amari Cooper pitches it to him and so he completes
the reception for a touchdown.

Speaker 2 (05:46):
He throws a touchdown pass and then gets credit for
a receiving touchdown, right.

Speaker 6 (05:51):
Because he didn't catch one. Traditionally, it was a pitch
from Amari Cooper. Yeah, that's weird. Yeah, because it doesn't
feel like a touchdown reception.

Speaker 2 (05:59):
So Justin Tucker made two of four field goals, one
of two pat's and the loss to the Eagles. And
that's the first time in his career, college or the
NFL that he's missed three kicks in a game. And
now you've got a bigger pick picture issue here because
these things metastasize. Okay, this is this game and this week,

(06:21):
and then all of a sudden, the game gets more important,
the stakes are going to be higher, and how is
he going to process this? And John Harball said, they're
not going to you know, they're working through this. They're
not going to put him on the ir let him,
you know, have a four weeks away where you know,
get your head together, come back, be refreshed. Like it's

(06:44):
it's not like he's Bryce younger Anthony Richardson. They're learning
the position. Here's one of the greatest kickers of all
time and he suddenly forgot how to play kick be
in that moment there, but that's seven points there. You
win the game. Now, as I've said, I think the
Eagles are better than the Ravens going into that game,

(07:07):
and they proved it. When you see running backs get
better as the game goes on. I also liken that
too when starting pitchers. When we used to have starting
pitchers who would go the distance, all of a sudden
they get into the seventh and they're even more dominating.
Eighth in him even more dominating. And you saw that
last night. I waited to see which running back would

(07:28):
dominate in the fourth quarter, and Derek Henry got bottled up.
Give the Eagles defense a lot of credit. That's a
great offense. We focus on that. But Saquon Barkley warm down,
that offensive line warm down, and you saw him do
well and take over the game. Now I'm looking at

(07:49):
the odds MVP odds, Josh Allen is the favorite. He's
got a sizable lead right now. This according to DraftKings
this morning, Saquon Barkley is second, then Lamar Jackson a
distant third. Jared Goff is with Lamar Jackson. Patrick Mahomes
is a very very very distant fifth place there and

(08:09):
he shouldn't be on that list. I've said before, Mahomes
is MVP. His value is when we get to the postseason,
because gone of the days you're gonna throw for forty
five touchdowns, and the Raiders had him. But they acted
like the Raiders. The Raiders could have beaten two of
the better teams in the NFL. They had the Chiefs,

(08:31):
they had them, let them go in true Raiders fashion.
There all right, A couple of phone calls in here,
Chris in North Carolina. Hi, Chris, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (08:43):
Hey? Good morning, Dan?

Speaker 2 (08:44):
How are you great?

Speaker 5 (08:45):
Great?

Speaker 8 (08:46):
I'm a six to three Anthony Carter, like one seventy eight.
I am not a fan of the play planning, just
like you. But I have to say, if you guys YouTube,
Michigan did the exact same thing two years ago, and
Ryan Day didn't say a pete. So look it up
twenty twenty two. They planned the flag. I wish they wouldn't.

(09:09):
I'm sure the Big Ten's gonna outlaw it. But Ryan
Day can't say we're not going to let that happen
on our field because he already did.

Speaker 2 (09:16):
That's fair, yeah, Paul.

Speaker 6 (09:17):
To be fair to Michigan, they had the plag the
flag planted on them earlier this season by Texas when
Texas rolled them, and I would watched the video back
and Texas does it and the Michigan players keep walking
to the locker room.

Speaker 5 (09:28):
They did not start a brawl.

Speaker 2 (09:29):
Well this is different, it is. This is different. But
either way, a brawl is a brawl. There is no
rivalry like this, none, none. You have to factor that in.
Doesn't matter, Records doesn't matter. You got people who don't
even say the name of the team up north of
the team down. So I mean it is, It's real.

(09:50):
It's a rivalry. It's heated. There's hatred there and I
don't know if there's a lot of respect there on
either side for the opposition. It's combustible. You have police
out there and they still can't stop it.

Speaker 5 (10:05):
Yeah.

Speaker 9 (10:05):
See.

Speaker 3 (10:06):
Yeah, as an outsider to the rivalry, I think part
of it I think is cool, But a big chunk
of it I think is really lame. Because if your
whole goal for the season is to beat one team,
it doesn't matter. We can go one in eleven, but
as long as we beat that one team, then we
won the season. Then you're not a fan of the team.
You just hate that other one. Yeah, and that's not

(10:26):
like that's not a lot of fun.

Speaker 2 (10:28):
JB in la Hey, JB.

Speaker 10 (10:32):
More in DP more than guys first time, long time.
You can't plan a flag on anyone's field. You just
can't do that. That's like Pepsi and Coca Cola having
their challenge all the time. If Pepsi keeps winning their drivers,
you could drive around their building, handle them, say whatever
you want. You know, you can even give the other
drivers a bird sometimes. And then you get the one guy.

(10:53):
Everyone got the one guy right, and he gets this
blue spray paint, goes to the.

Speaker 9 (10:57):
Big rid Coca Cola logo.

Speaker 7 (10:59):
Cross it out.

Speaker 10 (11:01):
Now you've got problems. You're gonna have Coca Cola drivers
fifty of a metro platt the next day and you
have like a rumble like in the Outsiders.

Speaker 2 (11:11):
Didn't think we'd be talking about Pepsi Coca Cola wars.
Turf Force War wasn't real.

Speaker 11 (11:18):
It's got to s accept that.

Speaker 12 (11:20):
Uh.

Speaker 2 (11:20):
Brian in South Carolina hid Brian with sondermind.

Speaker 7 (11:24):
Hey, DP, Hey, sir. Best of the week my Bills
taking down the Niners at Orchard Park last night. Worst
of the week the ending to the Raiders Chiefs game.
I think VP went into a little mini monologue earlier
about how fans take issue with the Chiefs winning these
one score games or winning these close games. I don't
think anyone has an issue the Chiefs winning these close games.

(11:44):
I think the issue is so weird officiating that happened
throughout the game. Wanya Morris and Juwan Taylor have been
getting away with murder since I don't know, probably week
two or week three, And if you look at that play.

Speaker 2 (11:55):
Not literally right, they they haven't literally been getting away.

Speaker 7 (11:59):
With murder, but they've been getting away with a lot well,
and you've touched on throughout the season, they let them,
in totality get away with a lot more than they
do in previous years, but it's a little bit much.
And then if you look at that play against the Raiders,
it looked like that was going to be a false
start and Mike doesn't spoke about it on its podcast.
It looked like they were getting together and it was

(12:20):
initially going to be a false start with the Raiders
getting the kick again, and then they came together and
changed it to an illegal shift, which effectively ended the game.
So I think the issue with the Chiefs is more
so than winning the post games, but just them constantly
getting the benefit of the doubt with the officiating that
ends these games.

Speaker 2 (12:36):
Okay, do you think the NFL is going out of
its way to make sure that the Chiefs continue to win.

Speaker 7 (12:43):
I think that Patrick Mahomes gets the same treatment as
Michael Jordan, Tom Brady and other great stars throughout every sport.
I think that their reps have sunglasses on letting them know, Okay, uh,
where it's a borderline call? Where are we going to go?

(13:04):
And I think the Chiefs get the benefit of the
doubts the same way those full scenes did and some
this is the Patriots did in years pass.

Speaker 2 (13:12):
Yeah, it happens. I never understood the best players' best
teams get the breaks. You would think that they want
to even it out and give the opposition the Raiders
need help. By the way, we've had some people say
that Walter Payton also had a passing touchdown, running touchdown,
receiving touchdown in the game. But if you heard what

(13:32):
I said, the exact wording on this is that there
have been four players since two thousand, two thousand, right,
So you were wrong right away, you got it. Walter
Payton didn't play in two thousand, should have he could have,

(13:53):
But I was saying in the year two thousand on.
These four players have had a receiving, running, and passing touchdown. Yeah,
gotta listen everything I say.

Speaker 6 (14:04):
You have to change centuries to keep Walter out of it.

Speaker 2 (14:06):
That's true. All right, let me take a break. We'll
talk to HERM Edwards, former college coach at Arizona State,
former NFL coach, get his thoughts on the planting the
flag Paul Finebaum from the Mothership. A little bit later on,
we'll hear from Dion Sanders as well. He says his
guys are playing in the bowl game. Okay, back after

(14:28):
this Dan Patrick show. Fox Sports Radio has the best
sports talk lineup in the nation. Catch all of our
shows at Foxsports Radio dot com and within the iHeartRadio app.
Search FSR to listen live. Dion Sanders, after blowing out
Oklahoma State, was asked about his players playing in a
bowl game.

Speaker 13 (14:50):
Our kids are going to play in our bowl game
because this we'll be signed up to do and we're
gonna finish. We're not gonna tap out because that throws
off the structure of next season. It's a couple of teams.
Do you take note they lay the egg in the
bowl game and they hadn't recovered. Since we don't plan
on doing that. We plan on going out of there
fighting dislike we fought today.

Speaker 2 (15:10):
Well, there's a not so subtle shot at his alma mater,
Florida State, after they weren't going to play in the
bowl games play for a national championship, and they had
a lot of players who decided not to play, I
believe when they played Georgia.

Speaker 6 (15:24):
Yes, Paul coach Sanders use the words signed up to do?
What about the bowl games? Do you think there's nil involved?
And he was maybe unintentionally hinting at it where these
players have to play in the bowl games to earn
all their bonuses.

Speaker 2 (15:37):
I think that's interesting to read into the language there.
But I understand that Shador Sanders is going to play
for his dad. Is Travis Hunter going to play fresh
off winning the Heisman? That I would be curious about.
But if he says, hey, this is what my guys
signed up for, maybe that has something to do with nil.

Speaker 9 (16:01):
All right?

Speaker 2 (16:01):
Eight seven to seven three DP show email address Dpadanpatrick
dot com, Twitter handle a GP show. We'll hear from
herm Edwards. He'll join us coming up here in a
little bit. Adam in South Carolina. Good morning, Adam. What's
on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (16:15):
Hey?

Speaker 9 (16:16):
Dan, I just wanted to say, all these folks talking
about a flag. Yeah, they just come on down south
of playing big boy football first.

Speaker 2 (16:21):
Of all, okay, meaning.

Speaker 9 (16:26):
Well, meaning that they're you know, they're complaining about a
flag where they don't even come down here and play
the real football teams. I mean, you know, they lose,
the Ohio State loses to Michigan, and the end of
the world. Well, we got teams of Nancy sat Can
have three losses trying to get him the playoffs down here,
you know.

Speaker 2 (16:41):
All right, Well, thank you, Adam. Yeah, take that you
big ten teams you Griffin and Cincinnati is back, hi Griff.

Speaker 14 (16:52):
Hey, Dan, got a best and worst. I'm in a
question for you. Best of the weekend the Hoosiers sixty
six nothing went over Purdue, biggest most lobsided win in
the old oakon Bucket game, and Hoosiers can't believe it.
They cemented their spot in the playoffs pretty much Allen
cemented it, I guess, but that's amazing. Worst of the weekend.
I fell for Mike Brown dirty tricks again.

Speaker 6 (17:14):
Dan.

Speaker 14 (17:14):
I went to the game at Pacoor yesterday fell for it.
I left probably, I think after the strip sack to
the touchdown, So that was kind of bad. You know,
people used to feel bad for us this season, but
now we're just a bad team and that's all pretty
much confirmed. But my question for you, Dan, you know
the Bengals organization better than any other national radio host

(17:37):
or sportscats are out there. Do you think at this
stage of Mike Brown's life that he would be willing
to make a change within the family front office structure.
Do you think that we're just going downhill from your.

Speaker 2 (17:48):
Daan Sex, I don't think he's making a change, don't
think so. It's your team and you don't want to relinquishmemver.
When I had Jim orsay on and I said, would
you ever consider bringing Peyton Manning in it as a
part time owner a partial owner? He goes no, like

(18:09):
it was a harsh no. The Bears are the Bears
and will continue to be the Bears because they keep
it in the family. The Lions, I mean, that's what happens.
It's really rare if you're going to get somebody who's
going to relinquish power. Jerry Jones for the detriment of
the team. He's still in power now. He has made

(18:30):
some good moves, but they haven't won. But these guys,
these owners, they don't give up power. Billionaires don't like
to be told what to do. Herm Edwards ESPN football analyst,
former college and NFL head coach, and he works on
the Mothership, on Sports Center, variety of other programs. He's
been a busy guy this morning. All right, Herm, you've

(18:53):
got more of a problem with those planting the flag
or those reacting to those planting the flag.

Speaker 5 (18:59):
I think the planning the flag days are over for
college football.

Speaker 12 (19:03):
I do. I think when you see something like that occur,
obviously with the emotions of young people, I just think
it was a bad look for college bad look.

Speaker 5 (19:15):
For everyone involved in it.

Speaker 12 (19:16):
I think this will be one of those deals where
they'll get together and say, you know what, those days
are done.

Speaker 5 (19:21):
No more flag planning.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Yeah, but how do you prevent that?

Speaker 5 (19:25):
H You just as a coach.

Speaker 12 (19:26):
And as a you know, college university, you just make
sure the head coach speaks to the players as well
as the ADA says, look, we're not planning flags. If
anyone plans the flag, obviously there's gonna be consequences. We're
not gonna do that here at this university any longer.
And it's gonna it's gonna probably be a part of
the NCAA policy. That's that's gonna It's not what we do.

Speaker 2 (19:46):
And I know we've had people say, well, Ohio State fans,
what they said to players and how they treat the player.
I understand all of that, but you got the ultimate
scoreboard coach, where you beat them in their place. That's it.
Just wave goodbye to them instead of we're going to
put a flag in aster turf, which you can't do,
and then you know it's going to bring about what

(20:09):
it brought about.

Speaker 5 (20:10):
But there's no doubt.

Speaker 12 (20:11):
And you know, and you know, young people are excited
about doing that. I mean, it's kind of evolved to
this in college football. We got to plan a flag.
I'm like, right, really, it's the guys, you know, just
let's win the football game.

Speaker 5 (20:23):
Let's just move on. We don't have to plant any
flags anywhere. That's just it's put this part of collegiate
you know football right now. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (20:32):
Well, I mean I still believe you win with class,
you lose with class, but both of those teams. Both
of those sides were wrong in what they did and
how they I get Ohio State, Hey we got humbled.
You're not going to you beat us, and now you're
going to do that. There's no other rivalry like this.
I get that.

Speaker 12 (20:49):
Yeah, but but Dan, you know this, This rivalry was
going on before these young people even born. Yeah, there
was no flag planting. So it's just it's kind of
evolved in things evolved, and if you allow it to happen,
it becomes, oh, we can do that too. You know,
it's a copycat world. You know that that that's cool.

(21:12):
Let's go do that. No, let's stop that.

Speaker 2 (21:15):
As a player, were you ever involved in a fight,
like a brawl team versus team?

Speaker 5 (21:21):
Let me think about that in the years that I played.

Speaker 12 (21:24):
No, even not even with the You know what, we
had a little bit of incident one time with the
Cowboys with that star.

Speaker 5 (21:33):
That's planning in the middle of that field. But he didn't.
It wasn't too bad. It was kind of like, Okay,
it's like the star, Okay, we get the star.

Speaker 7 (21:41):
Okay.

Speaker 2 (21:42):
The difference of coaching in snow like last night in
Buffalo as opposed to just regular conditions. As a coach,
what changes.

Speaker 5 (21:54):
Well, obviously depending on how bad it gets and how.

Speaker 12 (21:57):
The fields obviously takes the snow, you become a little
bit more conservative.

Speaker 5 (22:04):
Now here's the crazy part, Dan, And you know this.

Speaker 12 (22:06):
You've been around football as long as I've been. The
thing that sometimes people don't understand. They always ask the
question about, you know, why are they so concerned with.

Speaker 5 (22:15):
The quarterback's hand side? Well, any of them Northern teams
that play outside, it's critical the quarterback has big hands.

Speaker 12 (22:23):
It's critical when you play outside because of these kind
of conditions.

Speaker 5 (22:26):
And you watched it.

Speaker 12 (22:28):
Unfold yesterday with Josh Allen, who might be the MVP
of the league. His ability to carry the ball at
times with one hand.

Speaker 5 (22:36):
It seemed like it was throwing. Everybody else's clipping around
with the ball.

Speaker 12 (22:40):
He's carry it like, oh man, we're good for that
pitch down he ran when they pushed it to him.
He had the ball in one hand. He's vomiting it
and I'm going, there's the big hand deal. And because
of the wind, the elements, guys with big hands, and you, Dan,
you know football, You've gone back as far as you
think about all those teams the Pittsburgh Steed. There's all
those teams that played outdoors back in the days, right,

(23:00):
they had big hand quarterbacks. It's just part of the deal.
And when the snow shows up, you get it. I
got a guy that can function. He can throw the
ball in these conditions, he can carry the ball, he
can get the ball from the center.

Speaker 5 (23:12):
We're good.

Speaker 2 (23:15):
Justin Tucker is lost.

Speaker 5 (23:18):
Yes.

Speaker 2 (23:19):
Have you ever been around a kicker who is suffering
whatever he's suffering, the yips or just in his head.

Speaker 5 (23:29):
Yeah, you've seen it.

Speaker 12 (23:30):
And I think coach is smart enough to know he's
sticking with his guy. But during practice, now unannounced, when
you're practicing, he says, ball, We'll say we're gona kick
field goal.

Speaker 5 (23:41):
Right in the middle of practice. It's not even announced.
He says, hey, feel god, let's go.

Speaker 12 (23:45):
And you bring him out there and you put him
in an area where you get it inside the thirty
to let him see him make it.

Speaker 5 (23:52):
Just you want him to make some kicks in front
of the team. You don't plan it.

Speaker 12 (23:57):
It's kind of in practice. I'm gonna go and you
tell the coaches. We go to practice that week and say, look,
in this period, I'm going to call or kick, and
then in this other period, I'm going to call for
a kick.

Speaker 5 (24:09):
It is kind of unannounced. See you catch them off
guard and go, hey, line up, let's kick the ball.
And players will talk. Look what it is this about?
Kick the ball? You want to see him make it.
You want to see him make it right, and that's
all you can do. They're gonna stick with their guy.

Speaker 2 (24:24):
When I was playing basketball, coach would say such and
such going to the free throw line. If he makes it,
we're done with practice. If he misses, we have to run.
But he wanted to have that element of put some
pressure on you before you get pressure on you, and
then see how you do. We're talking to the former coach.

(24:46):
ESPN football analyst Herm Edwards. When you look at the Bears,
the Bears organization, you see what.

Speaker 12 (24:56):
I see an organization and that ne needs to be
relevant in the fact that they are Chicago Bears, and
there's certain teams in this league need to be relevant.
The Giants, the New York Giants need to be relevant,
They need to be good, they need to be competitives.
They found themselves a quarterback. They got a quarterback. There
ain't no doubt about it. Everybody who's hollering, what kind

(25:17):
of guy? Oh, he's a quarterback? You got your self quarterback? Now,
how do you fix it?

Speaker 5 (25:21):
Right?

Speaker 12 (25:21):
They're in the most competitive vision division in football, the
NFC North. Right now, they've got three teams over there
with obviously probably going to the playoffs, to be quite honest.
And so now you've got a Chicago team that's looking
up at all those teams.

Speaker 5 (25:35):
You have the key position in place, quarterback. They have
some good players going forward. Now, who's going to be
the coach who's going to fix this? Right? Because that's
what you know. Every coach is hired.

Speaker 12 (25:47):
He's always coming in generally to fix something. You know,
how do you fix it? Well, they have to worry
about the quarterback. He's proven he can play. He can
play in any conditions. He can play in the win,
he can play in the cold. He's gotten better as
a seasons has developed. And they're in competitive division.

Speaker 5 (26:03):
But you know this, I mean football, it's it's a funny.
It's a footing game. All of a sudden, they've lost
some close games.

Speaker 12 (26:12):
That one they lost this week, not calling obviously you
may be a timeout when he could have tied it
or what it.

Speaker 5 (26:18):
It's stuff like that. They get you.

Speaker 2 (26:23):
Yeah, I agree with you. They found their quarterback. Now
the question, I thought that they were a playoff caliber team.
But and you know, I bring this up a lot
when we look at the Chiefs, Oh, they get lucky
and they win these games. Close games come down to
coaching and quarterback play. And so you have two Hall
of famers, two of the best who've ever done this.

(26:43):
You have a decided advantage over a second year coach
and a quarterback that's probably a backup quarterback in aid
and ocommon. So that's a decided advantage that the Chiefs
have here, and they take advantage of.

Speaker 12 (26:57):
That great point in the fact at You've always say this,
when you have a great quarterback, you're going if we
get the.

Speaker 5 (27:06):
Last possession, yeah it's it's over. We're gonna win.

Speaker 12 (27:10):
He's gonna find a way to win. That's what the
great ones do. And you sit there, you smile, you go, okay,
we're good. We're gooder the time. You're gonna win.

Speaker 2 (27:20):
Okay, But what was that feeling like is a former
defenshive back was there a quarterback when he had the ball,
you're on the field and you go, damn it, we're
gonna lose.

Speaker 12 (27:29):
My rookie year. When the Dallas Cowboys were rolling. That's starbacking, right,
We're playing the Dallas Cowboys.

Speaker 5 (27:36):
Rice. You know, I'm all excited. I'm a rookie, I'm
a starter. We're playing the Cowboys and I'm going, hey man,
we're leaving this thing.

Speaker 12 (27:43):
And I'm in the huggle and it's the fourth quarter
and a couple of veterans looked at me and said,
rook don't start smiling.

Speaker 5 (27:49):
He's got the ball. Rogers Tharbacker. I'm going, what does
that mean? Sure enough right down the field, like, oh boy,
I see what you mean now.

Speaker 2 (27:59):
Rogers Stabaugh is underrated. He really is because he had
that short career because of the military. He averaged eight
yards of carry I believe, I mean, unbelievable, like that
was when guys weren't really running.

Speaker 5 (28:13):
No, you're you're right, no, And you know what, here's
another on.

Speaker 12 (28:16):
I'm gonna bring up to another one who got the
ball at the end and you go, oh, we're in trouble.

Speaker 5 (28:20):
Frank Turkeeton Sirth Francis. We called him tet God tell
you what.

Speaker 2 (28:26):
But unbelievable how do you explain Russell Wilson.

Speaker 12 (28:30):
Oh, you know what, I'm happy for Russell Wilson because
all of the anguish that Pittsburgh Deeler fans had.

Speaker 5 (28:39):
What are we doing? Why is he playing?

Speaker 12 (28:42):
He just threw for four hundred yards four hundred. This
is the Pittsburgh Dealers, you know, the one that turned
around to give the running the ball. They want to
win twelve to six. And Mike Common, obviously Hall of
Fame coach, he knows playing the Cincinnati Bengals, which Burrows,
who is an outstanding football player.

Speaker 5 (29:03):
And it's a shame they let the runner go. And
now it's all on Joe Burrow's hands.

Speaker 12 (29:07):
Before this week, he had thrown one hundred plus passes.
He was throwing, averaging fifty paths of the game. He
got no shot doing that, He had no shot. Well,
if Pittsburgh Telers look at this game, go, hey know what,
guess we can't win this one thirteen to ten.

Speaker 5 (29:22):
We've got to score some points. And Russell was cooking
with gas.

Speaker 12 (29:26):
Now, I mean, he is getting better every week, and
this team all of a sudden, it's like, oh, Pittsburgh
steelersuit getting a lot better. Probably the Baltimore Ravers are
getting in their own way.

Speaker 5 (29:38):
They got one hundred and one fouls. One hundred and
one that kills you. It's just it's death to you.
I don't care how good you are.

Speaker 12 (29:48):
You can't get penalties like that. And this is what
they're doing. And the Pittsburgh Dealers are quality going Okay, Baltimore.

Speaker 5 (29:56):
Right, It's interesting.

Speaker 2 (29:59):
If the Eagles play the Lions this weekend, who would
you take? That's say, neutral field Eagles lines.

Speaker 12 (30:07):
The way the Eagles are playing the last two weeks,
two road wins, they're playing pretty good, man. And here's
the key for me with the Eagles. I wanted to
see how they were going to play the Rams on
the road with a veteran quarterback, some talented receivers, the
way they could throw the ball, their defensive line dominated them.

(30:29):
That's taking place now. That front is going. Those young
players they have in the back of the secondary, now
they've gotten better. The offense is no longer. Oh Hurst
can run rpl No. You turn around and give it
to twenty six.

Speaker 5 (30:43):
And see what he can do. Now that's another story.
The Giants allowed number twenty six to catch a.

Speaker 12 (30:49):
Cab and come down to Philadelphia.

Speaker 5 (30:53):
He caught a cab. We'll pay your caba. We don't
need you. You go. Really, he's gonna run for two
thousand yards, by the.

Speaker 2 (31:00):
Way, more valuable. Josh Allen or Saquon Barclay, Josh.

Speaker 5 (31:06):
Allen, Josh Allen, He's he might be the m VP
candidate right now.

Speaker 2 (31:11):
Oh, I think it's his to lose.

Speaker 5 (31:13):
Yeah, he's I love him. He's more than a quarterback.
He is a teachers, a football player. You don't reminds.

Speaker 15 (31:20):
Well, we'll take us back there where we want to go.
Johnny Elway right, strong, big ron rugged, right.

Speaker 5 (31:31):
That kind of guy.

Speaker 2 (31:32):
Who would you rather have to start your franchise?

Speaker 5 (31:36):
John Elway or Allen? You would ask that. I think
even one you're you're gonna be.

Speaker 2 (31:48):
No, no, no, we don't do either one.

Speaker 12 (31:50):
Okay, Okay, I'm gona. I'm gonna pay this because I
played against him and I respect him.

Speaker 5 (31:54):
I'm gonna say, John.

Speaker 16 (31:55):
Yillen, Okay, always good to talk to you, you too,
my friend. You'll be well now, thank you, thank you.
That's HERM Edwards ESPN Football and love his energy. Former
NFL college head coach. I love his voice. They game
Kepper all right, let me take a break.

Speaker 2 (32:13):
We'll come back. We will give you our best and
worst of the weekend.

Speaker 1 (32:16):
After this, be sure to catch the live edition of
The Dan Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six
am Pacific on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio app.

Speaker 2 (32:27):
More phone calls Paul Feinbaum coming up in about a
half hour from now. Get his thought. What a wild weekend?
You know you have to do the what if because
you can't go, well, that won't happen. What if? What
if Ohio State loses? What if Miami lose? Like you
start to run down the list and go, uh, they're
not gonna lose, or they're not gonna lose. I mean

(32:50):
Georgia should have lost. Now they hold on for dear
life here. It's just it makes it great. And I
remember I was in a minority when I said this
twelve team playoff will bring more excitement. All the regular
season won't mean anything. Yeah, how do you feel about that? Now?
You have all these scenarios and these games matter. Here

(33:13):
we are in December and college games are mattering, and
I love that. It's great now the Heisman race is
probably over. Feels like it's Travis Hunter I would already
be putting the name plate on there, but Travis Hunter
has been great. Ashton genty is probably going to finish second,
Shardoor Sanders will finish third, and I will admit, and

(33:37):
some people pointed this out to me that I thought
Shadoor Sanders had had a better season numbers wise, as
the quarterback at Colorado. I think the thought the potential
of Travis Hunter is what we were voting on. It's like, man,
if he played wide receiver or just played defensive back. Well,
if he played defensive back, he wouldn't win. He's both

(34:00):
and he plays at a very high level, and he
would probably be a top ten, maybe top five pick
at both positions. If he just played one of those
positions and he had three touchdowns, had an interception and
they blow out Oklahoma. Stick all right, Best and worst
to the weekend, Todd. I'm going to start with you.

Speaker 11 (34:20):
My best of the weekend Friday Night's eight overtime game
and happens between the Bulldogs and Yellow Jackets. Georgia was
down seventeen nothing at the half, down twenty seven to
thirteen with five and a half minutes left in the fourth,
oing to lose forty four forty two. The Dogs take
forty four to forty two over the Yellow Jackets. The
worst recently fired Matt Eberflus and the Bears brutal mismtithor
of the clock don't snack the ball until six seconds left,

(34:40):
causing an incomplete pest to be the game's final play.
There were shots of Jared Gopp and his line's teammates
in total disbelief that the game actually ended that way.
Twenty three, twenty Detroit.

Speaker 2 (34:49):
I hated, hated overtime Georgia Georgia Tech. Now you can
watch that game and say, boy, I was excited. I
don't want a game to come down to that. It's gimmicky. Hey,
you get a two point conversion and then you get
a two point conversion. You just if you want to
do it, have an overtime period, hopefully it's settled. Then
you want to do first team to score and those

(35:11):
stats count, like I mean, it's just silly, it really is.
It's college just playing overtime. That's all because they you know,
they like to say, well they're not pros and we
don't want to make them play an extra quarter. Okay,
then sudden death that's fine, but not two point conversion.

(35:32):
Two point conversion see O'Connor. Best and worst of the weekend.
My best of the weekend Mike Tomlin. That dude, he's
a hell of a coach.

Speaker 5 (35:39):
A win.

Speaker 2 (35:40):
All he does is win.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
That's a great weekend for Russell Wilson. It's a great
weekend for the Steelers.

Speaker 2 (35:45):
Hell yeah, yeah. Uh.

Speaker 3 (35:47):
My worst of the weekend is the Cincinnati Bengals. I
don't know how it went so wrong there this year,
but they cannot catch a break. They even got spotted
seven points and still lost that.

Speaker 2 (35:57):
Their defense is so bad that Joe Burrow goes out
out there and says, I've got to get forty points
to win, and that wasn't enough. Joe Burrow is joining
a pretty select company a group of players. In the
Super Bowl era, only four quarterbacks have thrown at least
thirty touchdown passes, had a passer rating of at least

(36:19):
one hundred and average two hundred and seventy five passing
yards per game while playing on losing teams. Deshaun Watson,
Matt Ryan, and Drew Brees did it twice. That's the
company that he's in. He's had an unbelievable year. I
thought he was going to be an MVP candidate. He's
lived up to his end of this. The Bengals defense

(36:40):
is terrible, Marvin best and worst of the weekend.

Speaker 7 (36:44):
All right.

Speaker 17 (36:44):
I took Syracuse out because that goes without saying that's
absolutely round up.

Speaker 2 (36:48):
Applause. Now that felt like you're kind of asking for
a little humble bragg there.

Speaker 14 (36:54):
Oh was that?

Speaker 10 (36:54):
Oh you guys picked up on that?

Speaker 2 (36:56):
Oh did you pick Syracuse to beat Miami upright?

Speaker 5 (36:58):
Crazy?

Speaker 2 (36:59):
But I didn't even put it.

Speaker 5 (37:00):
Not open.

Speaker 2 (37:00):
It's incredible, all right.

Speaker 17 (37:02):
I got two other best. Leonard Williams at the Seahawks
a ninety one yard pick six against his former team,
the New York Jets. Jets terrible.

Speaker 2 (37:10):
Was there anybody on the Jets who cared about this
play after he had made the interception or the yeah
to chase him down? I mean, I mean he is
a six five, three hundred pound guy, and I was
waiting to see any of the Jets in the picture.

Speaker 17 (37:28):
I think there was a guard trying. Yeah, Yeah, that
was it. Yeah, the speeds there is yes, nowhere to
be fine.

Speaker 2 (37:34):
I wait for somebody, Yeah, okay.

Speaker 17 (37:36):
Other best the IRAQ documentary on Max so good. I
don't even want to give it give anything away, no
spoilers know nothing. It was just amazing and Michael McDonald
is Chef's kiss. I mean Top five Dead or Alive.

Speaker 2 (37:51):
The documentary on HBO Max. It's called yacht Rock. And
if you live through it, like even if you didn't,
you'll you'll listen and you go, wow, you guys like
that kind of music or wow, I understand why you
like that kind of music. Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald, Toto,

(38:11):
those are some of the stars of the documentary. And
I watched it yesterday. I thought it was great. Todd,
you gotta watch yacht Rock.

Speaker 11 (38:21):
I'm definitely gonna watch it.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
I mean, this is in your wheelhouse. And by the way,
Hallan Oates not yacht Rock Nowhere to be.

Speaker 5 (38:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (38:28):
They they even mentioned that they're not PAULI. Best and
worst of the weekend, I'll.

Speaker 6 (38:33):
Go with the Notre Dame fighting Irish and quarterback Riley Leonard.
After the lost in Northern Illinois at the start of
the year, it seemed chaotic and they've righted the ship.
Riley Leonard, great runners shoe quarterback. You're having a very
good season, they take down the Trojans forty nine thirty
five worst of the weekend. I don't want to see
Perdue football lose sixty six to zero. I know Perdue
football is never great. They're sometimes good. Two years ago

(38:56):
they were eight and six and they let Jeff Brohm
go the head coach. They don't want to pay them,
went to Louisville, and now they're one and eleven and
getting smoked by Indiana, who they used to be. Used
to be the other way around, So that's kind of sad.

Speaker 5 (39:08):
Yeah.

Speaker 2 (39:08):
I saw that score and I was like, oh my gosh,
somebody gonna lose their job. And he did update the
poll results if you can, shooting from the second hour's
see right now we got up there.

Speaker 3 (39:23):
Well, we'll start with who had the worst week in
Matt Eberfliss, Ryan Day, Kirk Cousins, or Justin Tucker. Right now,
Ryan Day has ticked down to sixty three percent of
the vote.

Speaker 2 (39:34):
That's not so bad. Keep your head up, coach. Things
are getting better. Things are getting better.

Speaker 7 (39:40):
There.

Speaker 2 (39:40):
Maybe not his beard look good though. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (39:42):
We had an interesting suggestion from Todd today too. Do
you celebrate or acknowledge your dating anniversary years or months
since your first date, Yes or no? That much like
Marvin's humble brag. Right there, it sounds like Todd would
like to celebrate something today.

Speaker 2 (39:57):
Okay, go ahead, Ton.

Speaker 11 (39:58):
Today is my twenty eighth year dating anniversary with my wife.
Our first day was in Brooklyn on twelve to ninety six, and.

Speaker 2 (40:06):
It made me, It made me wonder.

Speaker 11 (40:08):
And it was a Monday, twelve to two ninety a
consideration Monday. It made me wonder if you guys acknowledge
those things that romantic? Is it corny? Is it silly?

Speaker 2 (40:14):
What do you think it is?

Speaker 11 (40:16):
I think it's romantic, but I can see the argument
for really, it's not even a whole number. It's just
twenty eight. It's not twenty or thirty or ten. But
I think there's something to be said for the anniversary
of your first dad, your wife or.

Speaker 2 (40:27):
Husband, congratulations, thanks you, yeah, congratulate about a round of
applause for time you did it? It means the Broncos Winnesday. Boh,
I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. What
would you rather have?

Speaker 5 (40:39):
Bronco victory?

Speaker 8 (40:41):
