Speaker 1 (00:00):
You are listening to the Dan Patrick Show on Fox
Sports Radio. It's the final hour on this Monday. Phone
calls have been great, best and worst of the weekend.
Which you saw that you liked you didn't like Former
Rams Pro Bowl tackle Andrew Whitworth, will stop buying a
little bit. And that was a great game last night
in Detroit. Rams Lions go into overtime. Patriots beat the Bengals.
Speaker 2 (00:21):
That was the big surprise for me because I'm watching
and I'm going, Okay, let's see, let's see what Cincinnati does.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
Now.
Speaker 2 (00:29):
I know you had the Jamar Chase situation, but still
you're at home against the Patriots. Give New England credit.
I don't think anybody is going to or they certainly
weren't leading up to it. The Chargers handled the Raiders.
I thought they would win. I wanted to see how
they were going to win, and it was kind of
Jim Harball football. There. Defense looked good, they ran the football.
(00:52):
And then you get Jim Harball after the game, sounding
like this.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Work to do now, and you can't. You can't get
more work done.
Speaker 4 (01:04):
You won't make as much progress in the entire season
as you will from week one to week two.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
I'm telling you this is the week to attack.
Speaker 5 (01:12):
But you can't get the two no without.
Speaker 3 (01:13):
Being one of the.
Speaker 6 (01:18):
Body.
Speaker 2 (01:21):
He's not changing. You're going to have to change. He's
a college coach in an NFL locker room. You're gonna change.
He's not going to change, all right. Stat of the
Day brought to you by Panai America, the official trading
cards of the program, Tailgate Moonshine. From what I'm told,
we do have a couple of bottles left. If you
go to Danpatrick dot com, it's jalapeno lime. It's great.
(01:45):
The review's great. So if you get an opportunity you'd
like to pick up a bottle while supplies last, then
go get them. All right, more phone calls coming up.
Worst loss of week one? Is there any other candidates
other than the Bengals losing at home to the Patriots
because that was the biggest point spread. I don't know
(02:07):
if anybody else suffered a worse loss. Any other suggestions there, Paul.
Speaker 7 (02:14):
Maybe not on paper because they're supposed to lose to
the Browns to the Cowboys, but the Browns feel worse
with their star quarterback back, and that that's a loss
that if I were a Browns fan today, like, I
feel hopeless.
Speaker 2 (02:27):
Stuff got it, ah, but Cincinnati lost it home to
a team that might be the worst team in football
this year.
Speaker 7 (02:36):
I do feel though, if I'm a CINCINNTI Bengals fan, like, Okay,
Joe Burrow's okay, Jamar Chase on a contract, he still lost. Yeah,
I guess I wouldn't bother me much.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
Well, Jamar Chase isn't okay. I mean that's been a
situation here for them. I mean you had the t
Higgins situation. I don't know it just and they were
last place last year. But still they were a really
good team and I still have them as a playoff team.
Speaker 8 (03:04):
Yeah, seedon is it possible?
Speaker 5 (03:06):
The Giants losing is a bad loss because no one
expected them to win, but they were horrible, terrible. That
was almost like it's a bad loss in that it
confirms like, wow, we really might be awful this year.
Speaker 8 (03:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I think you can go into it going all right,
we know we're not a playoff team, but hey, we'll
be competitive, and then you're not a playoff team and
you're not competitive and you got embarrassed, you know, great
day pregame festivities. We're playing the Vikings. Sam Darnold is
going to be out there quarterbacking, and then all of
(03:42):
a sudden, Danny Dimes is Danny Dimes dropping dimes with
the other team.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
And to make it worse, Saquon had a great game. Yeah,
that's true, in his debut. That really adds to it.
Speaker 2 (03:57):
Not not good good, Yes, Marvin, what about the Titans?
Speaker 9 (04:01):
They were up seventeen nothing and the Bears offense did
nothing and they still lost.
Speaker 2 (04:08):
Yeah, but I don't think we think the Titans are
going to be, you know, a good team this year.
Speaker 8 (04:14):
I think the Bears are going to be a good team.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
Titans were the better team for quite a while yesterday
and then they gave it up defensively. The Bears won that,
but the Bengals at home, you got to win that game.
You're playing the Patriots, and you know you got Drake
May not even starting. You got your Kobe Brissette starting.
You got to win those games. The worst college football
(04:40):
loss was Notre Dame. There's not even a second place there.
You lose to Northern Illinois, your twenty eight point favorite.
You just beat Texas A and m All you have
to do is just you could even afford a loss,
maybe two losses, but they still want you in the playoffs.
And then all of a sudden and Notre Dame does
this on a yearly basis. They're in a game where
(05:03):
you go, oh my god, they might they did lose this.
You got USC at the end of the season. That's
your big matchup. This should be just let's work things out,
try some things. Schedule not too demanding there, and then
you lose at home Northern Illinois. Now they can't come
(05:24):
back from this. But this is one of those I
talked about. USC had a perception win against LSU. This
was a perception loss with Notre Dame. So you go, oh,
you beat Texas A and M in college station. Wow,
that's impressive it is, And then all of a sudden
you have this. So what's more? Wit stands out more
that you beat A and M at A and M,
(05:44):
or you lost at home to Northern Illinois. Well, once
you lost at home to Northern Illinois, you're a twenty
eight point favorite. And it felt like and we even
talked to their coach Thomas Hammock, and he said, look,
we could be physical with them. We weren't worried about that.
And then when you let that underdog get confidence, they
(06:05):
stay in a game, and all of a sudden, home
team fans start looking at the clock like, okay, it
happened in Cincinnati yesterday with the Patriots against the Bengals,
like you're going up, you guys better get started here.
And as I'm watching that game, I'm like, Notre Dame,
You're you're letting them build more confidence like each minute.
(06:27):
Yeh see.
Speaker 5 (06:28):
Notre Dame has a little bit of a like paper
tiger reputation anyway where they they always have a good record,
but they have an easy schedule. But then when you
get them in playing against the big boys, they fold,
you know, and it feels like it's been that way
for a long long time that they've been fighting that reputation.
At the weekend like this really just it's crushing.
Speaker 8 (06:49):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (06:51):
So those were the kind of the highs and lows
of the weekend. I thought that Saints looked impressive. I mean,
people thought Carol could win that game. The Vikings look good.
Jayden Daniel's debut was more impressive than the other rookie quarterbacks. Tyreek,
you get detained and then you can't be contained as
(07:12):
he scores a touchdown. Russell Wilson sits Is it justin
Field's job?
Speaker 8 (07:18):
I don't know. Did he do enough?
Speaker 2 (07:20):
You win the game in Atlanta and then lines over
the Rams in overtime. It was a lot of fun
if you're a Packer fan. Okay, you lose, your team
still has some bright spots, and then you find out
Jordan Love the injury is not severe, not serious. You
might miss a couple of weeks here, but Pooka Nakua
with the Rams that looked more serious. Jets and the Niners.
(07:43):
Tonight the Niners are giving.
Speaker 8 (07:45):
Four and a half.
Speaker 2 (07:46):
A couple more phone calls in here, Brett in Phoenix,
Hi Brett, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 10 (07:53):
Hey?
Speaker 11 (07:53):
Dan?
Speaker 10 (07:54):
I just have a best of the weekend. It's your
Arizona State Sun Devils taken down Mississippi State. It was
our first win over an SEC team in school history.
Cam Scattaboo ran for like two sixty days. He's a
lot of people's early season pick for Heisman winner. I've
(08:16):
heard it a lot. Afu's on Natty Watch, and you know, Dan,
you can't get to three and oh unless you're two and.
Speaker 8 (08:23):
Oh yeah, thank you.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
You're right, as Jim Harball said, you can't get to
two and oh unless you get to one and oh.
It feels like he is just he's full of these sayings.
I don't I don't want to say he's a wise man,
but you know, he's not Confucius. He can be confusing,
but he's not necessarily Confucius, says motivational speaker. He just
(08:50):
feels like he's a walking T shirt slogan. Just feels like,
you know, Harball say something, you go, yeah, we can
put that on a T shirt. Here Rocko in Florida,
Hey Rocko, what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (09:04):
Hey, how's it going? Ging Gannetts a longtime listener. Actually
I was on hold all of Friday and we ran
out of time, so I'm excited to talk. At first,
I wanted to give a shout out to my pops.
He's a head coach that makes me in college in Arizona.
Tony Sirelli. He gotten back to the Junior College Hall
of Fame last year over a thousand wins, national champion
(09:27):
and then also worse last worst bess and worse is
worst biased because I'm originally from Arizona. So Tyler Murray
missing our number one receiver by twenty yards wide open.
I mean, I get it, but call it duty might
have had something to do with that, So I'm not
(09:48):
sure yet, but I you know, I'm interested to see.
I didn't like him with Kingsbury because Kingsbury was his
best friend. So I liked the new regime of coaches.
I think they're putting a little more old discipline them
into it. And then the best I take the Patriots
because everyone's just abusing them about how they're going to
be and you're just gonna be horrible and got awful.
(10:10):
And they beat a team with a lot of talent.
Speaker 8 (10:13):
So well, they might still be terrible.
Speaker 2 (10:16):
Just I want to let you know there, Rocco, and
thank you, thank you for being one of the eras
a few Arizona Cardinal fans coming in here offering up
some nice things. Look, Week one usually is a standalone
either it's really good or really bad. And I that's
the hard part is you're trying to detect, Okay, what
is going to be long lasting as far as somebody's
(10:40):
good or somebody's not. That's what I'm curious about with
these results. And you might just say, let's kind of
wipe the book clean with those first games. Are they,
you know, what is going to be truly indicative of
a team's success or lack thereof.
Speaker 8 (10:54):
Yes, Marvin is next.
Speaker 9 (10:55):
Week the first most must have win it of the year.
Here's the city Cincinnati next week.
Speaker 2 (11:05):
Ooh, maybe Cincinnati was looking ahead to Kansas City they
overlook the Patriots.
Speaker 8 (11:10):
Yeah, okay, maybe so.
Speaker 2 (11:12):
By the way, my best of the weekend was Dak
Prescott getting paid. So I don't have to hear from
all of these shows that spend hours talking about Dak
Prescott's contract. Here's Dak Prescott after the game.
Speaker 12 (11:26):
For me personally, good, just honestly to finish these questions.
And I hope after the day we're done talking about
talking about it in my pockets. I guess you can
say uh and uh. You can just move forward and
focus on this team and the success that we plan
to have and what we're working toward.
Speaker 2 (11:45):
Yay, he got paid. Don't have to hear about this anymore.
Now we get to hear about Micah persons. What can
they afford? Micah persons, how much is he worth? He's
gonna want forty million.
Speaker 8 (11:57):
If you get paid in the morning.
Speaker 2 (11:58):
You gotta win in the afternoon, though, I mean that's mandatory.
Speaker 8 (12:02):
You won, you won in the morning, and then you win.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
In the afternoon. Let me see what else did I
have here? I have Mike Tomlin talking about going with
Justin Fields over Russell Wilson.
Speaker 13 (12:16):
I just thought it was appropriate to put the healthy
guys on the field. I felt really good about both quarterbacks.
I was very clear to you guys when I named
Russ the start of how comfortable I was with both quarterbacks.
And so if that is true, why not be really
comfortable with playing Justin Under the circumstances with Russ being
in less than ideal physical shape.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Well he had to play him. It didn't come down
to performance. It came down to one guy's healthy and
one guy isn't. Russ was the third string quarterback. He
was inactive but still in uniform, Like, what is he doing?
Speaker 8 (12:50):
That's a little weird.
Speaker 2 (12:51):
I know, I know, so he can't play, But it
felt like I'm going to give the impression this is
still my team.
Speaker 8 (13:01):
I'm just not able to play today.
Speaker 5 (13:03):
Yes see, I was really excited that this is like
a fresh chance to start over.
Speaker 3 (13:07):
You know.
Speaker 8 (13:08):
Yeah, like all right, No, this is good, Like just.
Speaker 5 (13:10):
Do like compete for a job, play well, don't do
any weird stuff.
Speaker 2 (13:17):
Like warming up before the game, like putting in like
full pads and everything, knowing you're ineligible, ineligible to play.
Speaker 8 (13:24):
Do you think he got his ankles taped?
Speaker 3 (13:25):
Why?
Speaker 8 (13:26):
Why did you? Why do that? Why do that? Did you?
Speaker 3 (13:30):
Hear?
Speaker 2 (13:31):
Steve Smith Senior had comments on Russell Wilson, basically saying
that he's washed. He said he's like the guy who
went out for cigarettes and never came back. He said
he's not coming back. And I'm like, Okay, I don't
think he's an absentee father. But I think what Steve
(13:51):
Smith was saying is it's done. Like that might be
an overreaction because it feels like, if he's healthy enough,
he's still going to be the starting quarterback. Here's the
other thing that stood out. A couple of things stood out,
But there were twenty one field goal attempts of fifty
yards or more in Week one. There were nineteen made,
(14:16):
nineteen of twenty one.
Speaker 8 (14:19):
I know I'm not even done with it. Oh, I thought,
I no, no, I.
Speaker 2 (14:23):
Know it did but I and then the Cowboys kicker
kicked a seventy one yarder. But then I think, did
they call time out? So he makes the kick from
seventy one yards out, the longest field goal in history.
Is it getting too easy? Certainly feels that way, and
(14:46):
look and credit to the kickers. But I don't think
we tune in to see that. I know we don't
tune in to see Hey, honey, way let me know
when they're kicking a field goal.
Speaker 8 (14:57):
Okay, yes, DoD.
Speaker 9 (14:59):
The Steelers kicker to make six field goals. And then
he had a punt because there are punts that got interesting.
It was all over the play.
Speaker 8 (15:04):
Yeah, that was great.
Speaker 2 (15:05):
Also, first week one to include the following a defensive touchdown,
a kickoff return for a touchdown, and a punt return
for a touchdown. Since twenty ten, cow.
Speaker 14 (15:18):
Stall of a Day, Style of a day, Start of
a day, Stant.
Speaker 4 (15:23):
Of a day.
Speaker 8 (15:24):
This is the Style of the Day.
Speaker 2 (15:29):
Stout of the Day, brought to you by Panini America,
the official trading cards of the program, Vincent Texas, Hey Vince,
what's on your mind?
Speaker 15 (15:37):
Guys? Happy Monday? Who's better than a Texan Longhorns? No
Boddy anyway?
Speaker 11 (15:44):
Dan?
Speaker 15 (15:44):
Correct you? The kicker made a sixty six yarder. There
was a penny on it, so that was since five
yards back. They didn't attempt it. They way hiding and
punted it and left the cock run up for halftime.
Speaker 8 (15:58):
Oh okay, the game, thank you, thank you, and.
Speaker 15 (16:01):
Yeah, and you also nailed my best dad getting paid finally.
And the worst is you horns down, Michigan. If you
do it, horns down and you're getting work on the field,
it makes you look better.
Speaker 2 (16:17):
Can we stop with the horns down stuff? Especially this year?
Let's just stop, all right, Let's go play, have fun
and you're in the sec You're probably going to get
this somewhere, so what who cares. It's not the end
of the world. I mean, we're not burning the American flag.
(16:37):
It's just horns down people do. If you let it
get to you, they're going to continue to do it.
It's like when your brother says something to you and
then you know it bothers you. He knows it bothers you,
and he continues to do that.
Speaker 9 (16:52):
Yeah, that's how people get nicknames, like stop calling me that.
They keep calling you that? What you think?
Speaker 2 (17:04):
All right, We'll take a break. Andrew Whitworth, he works
for Amazon. Thursday Night broadcast and former All Pro tackle
for the Rams. He'll stop buy more phone calls as well.
We'll take a break. We're back after this. Fox Sports

Speaker 2 (18:06):
The best in women's golf tea off and this team event,
Nellie Corda leads the United States team against Charlie Hall
and Team Europe. Charlie Hall is awesome. First of all,
she's good looking, she smokes, heaters, out on the golf course. Really, yeah,
she's badass. Team Europe. It's the Soul Him Cup Friday,
seven am Eastern on Golf Channel. See what was the
(18:30):
poll question for the final hour of the program. Let's
see right now, we've got a couple of them up there.
Speaker 5 (18:36):
Dan Okay, we have got dot dot Dodd who had
the worst week in Colorado, Michigan or Notre Dame. Notre
Dame right now, Absolutely running away with that one. Also,
most surprising news to start the NFL Sunday, Dak Prescott's contract,
Tyreek Hill de teamed or Kendrick Lamar's halftime show Dax Prescott,
Dak's Dak Prescott's contract is what I was trying to say,
(18:59):
running away with that one.
Speaker 2 (19:01):
Yeah, you might think it would be Tyreek Hill being detained,
handcuffed and face down on the cement going to a game,
a home game with the Dolphins. That doesn't happen very often.
Guys get new contracts all the time. Tyreek Hill face
down on the pavement there. Here's a couple of things.
(19:21):
The dynamic they got it, the new dynamic kickoff. See
it already heightens awareness, like you're like, oh, it's not
the old dynamic kickoff. It's the new dynamic kickoff. It's
not dynamic. Thirty four percent of the kickoffs were returned,
so fifty four out of one hundred and fifty nine,
so that's up twenty percent from Week one last year.
(19:43):
One kickoff return for a touchdown. Four kickoffs were returned
for touchdowns all of last season. Three kickoff returns of
at least forty yards in Week one, and the average
drive started at the thirty yard line, so that's up
from the twenty five yard line through Week one a
year ago. All right, those are all positives. I'm not
(20:06):
ready to go why do we do this? There's at
least the possibility of something happening, and we saw that
there's the possibility. Before there was no possibility. Now at
least you have something could happen. And I think you're
going to see certain special teams, coaches strategize use this
(20:26):
in a way that's different from other people, and you know,
might turn out to be a huge play come Super
Bowl time.
Speaker 8 (20:33):
Who knows. David in Phoenix, Hey David, what's on your
mind today?
Speaker 10 (20:38):
Hey?
Speaker 15 (20:38):
Dan?
Speaker 16 (20:39):
Worst Notre Dame by far, and hopefully this will be
the last week and put kickers to rest for the season.
But Chris Boswell not just the six field goals, but
his total yardage of those field goals outgained the complete
Steelers offense to say, three to seventy.
Speaker 8 (21:03):
It's pretty good, David. Thank you. That's a nice little
stat of the day.
Speaker 14 (21:07):
Who Today, stat of to day, scout of to day.
This is the stule of the.
Speaker 8 (21:18):
Day Scat of the day.
Speaker 2 (21:21):

Bowl champ with the Rams. Four time Pro bowler joins

Speaker 8 (21:49):
How you feeling.
Speaker 3 (21:51):
I'm doing good, Da, It's good. At football's back, baby,
Let's go.
Speaker 2 (21:55):
Okay, explain your former team hosting the Patriots yesterday and
losing at home.
Speaker 3 (22:01):
You know you wanted to start there.
Speaker 6 (22:03):
Just just dig dig in the knife a little bit,
you know.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I was heartbroken. Yesterday.
Speaker 6 (22:08):
I was so excited. I thought Joe Burrows had all
camp long. Now we're going to finally get to see
this Cincinnati team come out the gates because it's something
they've really struggled with.
Speaker 3 (22:16):
They've started the season really slow the last few years. Uh.
Speaker 6 (22:19):
He's been out a lot in training camp with different things,
and man, Uh they look like a team, honestly that
has been struggling to get contracts done with their wide
receivers because that's what the offense looked like. They looked
a little lost. Execution, was bad bad ball security. Uh
just unfortunately, Uh, probably not really the way they wanted
to start it. And and not I think different this
(22:40):
year because a lot of these guys have missed time.
Now Toe Higgins is injured, Jamar Chase has missed all
of camp. They've got to get going, and they got
to get going fast.
Speaker 2 (22:49):
I'm watching Matthew Stafford last night in the fourth quarter,
your former quarterback, and it's and it's strange. He's had
like this rebirth. Younger quarterbacks are talking about just how
great he was, and you know that CJ. Stroud wants
to be like him. Caleb Williams wants to be like him.
What was Stafford like though in the huddle compared to
(23:10):
other quarterback Like, is there anything that stands out? And
have we taken him for granted? Maybe during his career?
Speaker 6 (23:18):
I think that's really the last thing he said there
is really top of mind to me. I think we've
taken for granted how special this guy is, how you know,
really the impact he has as a quarterback.
Speaker 3 (23:28):
Man, he's one of the rarest.
Speaker 6 (23:29):
And I think that you talk about being in a huddle,
I've always said Dan to me, he was like, he's
like John Wayne.
Speaker 3 (23:36):
He's the bad.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
Cowboy dude who you're just like, never says a word.
I don't care if you get him hit. I don't
care if three people hit him, doesn't matter what happens.
You look at him last night. They are hitting him
every single snap. Somehow he's able to get Cooper cup.
Somehow he's able to find a receiver down the field
every play. I'm going, man, what a great completion is
Matthew still alive. Let's hand the camera back over here.
(24:00):
But he never says a word. You never hear him
say a thing. And but all he does is walk
in the huddle, and say, hey, boys, let's go get
one right here. He's just stone cold that way, and
I think it's really one of those things that you
see it in his team. They admire his toughness, they
admire the attitude he has, and there's nothing that he
can't accomplish or or do on a football field because
(24:20):
he's gonna outwork everybody.
Speaker 3 (24:22):
He's gonna be the toughest sum of gun in the huddle.
Speaker 6 (24:24):
I think he just gives you a lot of inspiration
to play for him by the way he carries himself.
And I agree with you on the rebirthday. There's something
about moving to LA from the Midwest. I know it well,
that just gives you a lot of energy and you
know what you decide, Hey, maybe.
Speaker 3 (24:38):
I'd go a little longer than I thought.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
And I think you see that in Matthew Stafford, that
relationship with Sean McVay and what's happening for him in LA.
Speaker 2 (24:45):
How often would you get yelled at in the huddle
with other quarterbacks, Well, you don't get.
Speaker 6 (24:50):
Yelled at much, but you may hear, hey, guys, what
happened on that protection or you know, man, you may
hear a little complaint here or there about the protection
and to need. And with Stafford it was always just
I'll find a way and he'll never say a word
to you about it. He would just say, you know what, Hey,
You'd be like, hey, man.
Speaker 3 (25:07):
You're all right? Sorry about that? No, I'm fine, i'
worry about Let's move to the next one.
Speaker 6 (25:10):
You know, like he no emotion about those kind of things,
And so I think that his fire and his attitude
is something you've fed off of that he would never
complain about a single situation, and even not necessarily in
the huddle, but around the building or two in a room.
You wouldn't hear him ever talk about those kind of things.
It was always demanding more of himself, and I think
that in turn makes you want to play better.
Speaker 2 (25:32):
Would you rather block for someone like Matthew Stafford or
someone like Josh Allen?
Speaker 3 (25:39):
Listen?
Speaker 6 (25:40):
You know, I think that that really goes down. I
have this talk all the time. E've been Patrick mahomes right.
He does a great job of avoiding sacks and those
kind of things, but they also move around a lot
in the pocket or hold it at times to where
you know, if you're talking about you as an individual,
like hey, if you're a left tackle, you have a
lot of pride protecting the quarterback. You're gonna occasionally have
pressures or hits on the quarterback that really don't have
(26:00):
a lot to do with you. You might have done your job,
but then they go to extend to play and there's
just only so long you can hold a block, and
so it starts to become a thing of hey, is
this about us winning or is this about me having
the best pass blocking efficiency rate possible? Right, So I
think whenever those guys do all that then and you win,
I think it's, hey, that's great. But when they're doing
(26:21):
that and you may not be winning and it may
not be leading to success, I can see where that
starts to become an issue, probably for some tackles out
there that hold themselves and that that esteem that they say, Hey,
I want to be the best and I want us
to have the most efficient offense possible. I think maybe
you might get a little upset about them running around,
but hey, when those lead to w's and they lead
the touchdowns, I think that's the only thing everybody cares about.
Speaker 2 (26:43):
Point of emphasis with tackles back a little bit trying
to get back further protecting the quarterback. Here is this good?
I mean, should we be focusing on tackles who aren't
lined up may where they should be?
Speaker 6 (27:02):
I mean it seems like something that's just not that
big a focus for me. But I you know, listen
Haven playing tackle. I think it's a silly thing because
it's one of those things that you look at it
Really it's about their.
Speaker 3 (27:14):
Feet being in alignment.
Speaker 6 (27:15):
We've kind of developed this belt thing and it had
a lot more to do with guys in three point stances.
And so when you were down in a stance, you
couldn't back up to get an advantage to be able
to reach defensive ends or be able to reach d
lineman because you were backed off the line of scrimmage
standing in the past blocking stance. You know, as long
as your feet or even with the centers or somewhere
(27:36):
in line, you're getting zero advantage. So for us to
worry about their helmet alignment, like you look at some
of the snaps with Ronnie Stanley, like his feet are
in direct line with everybody else. We're just talking about
where his helmet is based off how he stands in
a stance. I just for me, I hate points of emphasis.
I think that's a silly thing to talk about. Like,
I'm a big believer in if rules or rules, then
(27:58):
enforce rules.
Speaker 3 (27:59):
If they're all of a.
Speaker 6 (28:00):
Sudden, Now we have rules, and now one rule is
more emphasized.
Speaker 3 (28:04):
Than another rule.
Speaker 6 (28:05):
I think that's a silly thing, Like, let's just have
a rules and establishments of this is the way we
want to conduct business. This is how penalties are going
to be called. For every penalty, and they're no such
thing as emphasizing a rule. I just think that gets
to be silly because now you're looking for it and
you're trying to call it, and that's not really the
essence of why there's penalties and rules. Therefore, you know what,
(28:25):
if there's a fraction, If there's an infraction.
Speaker 15 (28:27):
Then call it.
Speaker 2 (28:29):
Aside from the obvious pick for your Super Bowl the
Rams versus the Bengals, do you have another Super Bowl pick?
Speaker 6 (28:38):
Well, I don't know if I have another Super Bowl pick.
As much as based off of tonight, I think you'll
tell us. You know, really, we get a chance to
watch the Niners Jets. There's nothing from week one right
now that doesn't tell me that this might not possibly
be a rematch of the last Super Bowl we had,
and I still think the forty nine ers are going
to be one of the best teams in the NFC,
and the Chiefs as of right now after week one,
(28:59):
watching that week, uh, there's nothing that tells me that
repeat is not possible. I mean, obviously you expect there's
gonna be adversity they're gonna have to face at some point,
but right now, you know, after week one, I think
Pcanna City Chiefs are representing the AFC and still feel
strong it's maybe a rematch from last year's Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (29:16):
Okay, let's play the Andrew Whitworth max bench press one rep.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
Ever.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
Okay, Todd, I'll start with you. What do you think
Andrew's max bench press one rep? Four hundred and thirty
pounds or thirty seaton. I'm going four to seventy five,
seventy five? All right, Marvin.
Speaker 9 (29:39):
Four fifty, Paulie for sixty five.
Speaker 8 (29:45):
I'm gonna go for seventy five one rep.
Speaker 3 (29:48):
Cool close. I was actually at four ninety five. That
was the college.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
You don't lift that heavy in the NFL anymore, you
can't get hurt. But in college, I think at four
ninety five for one.
Speaker 8 (29:59):
Wait, you gotta put five really close. You got to
put five more pounds on. You got to do five
HUNDI you know I got that.
Speaker 6 (30:05):
Hey, listen, this long reach right here, Dano. These these
thirty seven inch arms, you know, not really the best
bench presser, but you know that's what I got to
ninety five. I'm pretty sure that was the strength. Coach
was like, that's it, We're not trying anymore. So I
barely got it there, and it might have taken about
a minute and a half for the bar to move
all the way up, but I got it there.
Speaker 3 (30:25):
That's all.
Speaker 2 (30:25):
Okay, the most you've ever seen was lifted by who
how much?
Speaker 3 (30:30):
Oh Man?
Speaker 6 (30:31):
In college, there was we had some great lifters, you know,
but I would probably say, honestly, one of the strongest
guys I've ever seen, as far as when you talk
about size weight ratio, you know, Aaron Donald, I mean literally,
you know, I know he's great at everything, but I
know it shocks everybody to think that he's really powerful
as well in the weight room. But there was crazy strong.
(30:52):
I mean, what he could move on a bench press
bar at his weight is pretty insane.
Speaker 3 (30:56):
That's for sure.
Speaker 8 (30:57):
Five hundred oh easily.
Speaker 6 (31:00):
I mean I think he worked out with four or
five or four full thought for Rex and five and
six and seven. I mean that guy was crazy powerful.
So yeah, he could definitely hit five hundred dos, no doubt.
Speaker 8 (31:09):
You don't see him coming back, I don't.
Speaker 6 (31:12):
He looks pretty comfortable, you know, I think you know,
knowing ad Listen.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
He's living in La the career he had.
Speaker 6 (31:19):
Listen, we're about to We're more likely probably to see
him on a movie, you know, in a documentary, a show,
you know what.
Speaker 3 (31:26):
Eighty's the man. He's accomplished at all.
Speaker 6 (31:29):
He's having fun raising his kids and enjoying life with
his wife, Erica.
Speaker 2 (31:33):
Good to talk to you. We'll talk to you during
the season. Have fun on Thursdays.
Speaker 3 (31:37):
Look forward to it, man, Thank you so much.
Speaker 2 (31:39):
Andrew Whitworth, Amazon Prime Video, NFL Analyst. And this Thursday night,
it'll be Buffalo against the Dolphins. Pregame coverage starts at
seven Eastern. Right, we'll take a break. More phone calls
coming up. What we learn, what's in store tomorrow, We'll
have that for you coming up next.
Speaker 1 (31:57):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAP.
Speaker 2 (32:07):
I did watch a little bit of Carolina against the
Saints because I was curious skill position wise. Carolina adding
some receivers Deontae Johnson. They drafted a receiver Xavier Leaguette.
They just don't have blocking. I don't give me a
good offensive line. I can make something happen if I
(32:28):
have a good offensive line. If I don't, you don't
have any chance. Whether it's college, just ask Shador Sanders.
You don't have a good offensive line, You're gonna be
under duress. You're gonna hurry. I mean, there's there's no
comfort level there. And I'm watching Bryce Young. I know
he's the number one overall pick, but he had one
(32:49):
hundred and sixty one yards passing, two interceptions, sacked four times.
Speaker 8 (32:53):
I mean this against the Saints.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
It should get better, but I might get worse before
it gets better, if that's possible. All right, predictions for
to Okay, how about tomorrow's headline today, Let's bring it
back tomorrow headline today, tod.
Speaker 9 (33:14):
I'm gonna go with Folly Rogers not a good start
for the.
Speaker 2 (33:18):
Jets instead of jolly Rogers. Okay, see no O'Connor Tomorrow's
headline today.
Speaker 5 (33:25):
We're gonna be talking about how the forty nine ers
look great, they've picked up right where they started, how
much the Jets work, the Jets still have to do,
and how many teams there are that can really win
the Super Bowl. Okay, those are the storylines. I don't
have a clever Oh there's no clever headline. Forty whiners,
all right, forty whiners. Okay, these teams have no chance.
Speaker 8 (33:50):
Okay, Marvin.
Speaker 9 (33:52):
Jets crash in San Francisco.
Speaker 8 (33:57):
Like that? What are we doing with them? I mean month?
Speaker 9 (34:02):
Oh but that was mine though.
Speaker 8 (34:03):
Okay, Okay, PAULI.
Speaker 2 (34:06):
Tomorrow's headline today, at least we're not the Giants.
Speaker 7 (34:10):
Jets loose but still the best team in New York.
Speaker 2 (34:14):
I think the headline is Jets, Jets, Jets exclamation point.
Speaker 8 (34:22):
Wow. Yeah, yeah, I got that. I got the Jets winning. Yeah.
Speaker 2 (34:32):
Remember last Monday Night Football last year, Aaron Rodgers comes
out of the American flying, it's crazy, it's bedlam, it's chaos,
it's spectacular, and then four plays in it's done.
Speaker 8 (34:45):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (34:46):
Ladies and gentlemen say hello, to Zach Wilson. Wilson, Uh Jim,
and Iowa, Hi Jim, what's on your mind today?
Speaker 17 (34:54):
Hey Dan, thanks so much for taking my call. First
of all, I think that Jim habiisms might make him
the modern.
Speaker 8 (34:58):
Da Yogi bar of foot all.
Speaker 17 (35:01):
Second of all, I got a best and a bester.
I just flew down to Atlanta for the weekend, and
I have my college buddy Dan, and he's a Falcon
season ticket holders. Kind of thought that Steeler's trying to
join him and watch my uh Chris Broswell bonanza yesterday,
which is awesome. My best is that Dan picked me
up at the airport Saturday morning, ran off the flight
with a couple buddies of his. Kyl and John drove
to Auburn to watch our Califorindar Golden Beer's beat Auburn,
(35:24):
which was awesome, and then upset and shout out to
Auburn Nation for anybody wants to go to see a
road game at all, you got to go Auburn because
they're the nicest, kindest Falcon of football fans, so to
invite a road team ever I've ever been to. And
I fly a book back home this afternoon and I'll
be horse when I go on the air tonight.
Speaker 8 (35:38):
Thanks Dan.
Speaker 2 (35:39):
Ain't Jim Jim a broadcaster there? That sounds like a
nice weekend. You got to see uh Falcons, Steelers, Auburn football.
Great environment there, Uh Louis and Bakersfield. I Louis, what's
on your mind today?
Speaker 18 (35:55):
Just called him Giants terrible lifelong Giants fan, But I
know Daniel Jones didn't play well. How much of it
is dabs because he's just a coordinator and not a
head coach. Janet Hyatt w five snaps is Simon zero
snaps from the defensive side. All this is okay?
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Well Dabel could coach his first year. There wasn't he
coach of the year.
Speaker 8 (36:20):
I mean it's.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
I wouldn't have gotten rid of Saquon Barkley if I
was keeping Daniel Jones, I would have said to Daniel Jones,
would you like to have Saquon Barkley. You can take
a little less money and then we're going to give
that to Saquon Barkley. Trust me, you're gonna want him
in the backfield. Yes, Seed.
Speaker 10 (36:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 5 (36:46):
If that's really if you pay Saquon, yeah, and then
you look at all this money. You can say, why
would you have all of this money wrapped up in
an injury prone running back when you need all of
this other stuff.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
Well, the Eagles were willing to spend that money on
Saquon Barkley.
Speaker 5 (37:04):
Feels like they had that luxury though, though.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
They've been paying a lot of people. Eagle has been
paying a lot of people, so they found room for
Saquon Barkley's salary that they're paying. Jalen Hurts a whole
lot more than they are. Danny Dimes, I mean I am,
and yes, it comes down to durability with Saquon Barkley.
If he's healthy, he can put up Christian McCaffrey type numbers.
(37:30):
The question is will he stay healthy. But I never
would have kept Daniel Jones never. There's just too many
quarterbacks you can get. But here's the thing they can
get out after this year. Douglas in Texas, Hey, Doug.
Speaker 19 (37:50):
I'm nine to twenty five. That's the worst of the weekend.
The worst is the delay of game call that kept
Brandon Aubrey from being in the books up there with
Justin Tucker. Was caused by the play clock not being
reset from the previous play Okay, best of the weekend,
(38:15):
Dallast's defense dominating and tomorrow's headline today, if I may,
party disappointing.
Speaker 8 (38:28):
Party disappointing.
Speaker 2 (38:31):
Okay, the Jets are getting four and a half Griffin
in Cincinnati, Hey Griffin.
Speaker 20 (38:41):
Dan, Griffin had to go to the bathroom. Missus Sparrowdidas
taking over for him inside of Griffin's small and cheap apartment.
I can tell that he does not get paid a
lot during his day job. It is great to have
the NFL back then. Just magical, wonderful, incredible. Might I
add splash the Kansas City Chief Dame looked fantastic. The
Saints and Buccaneers, they were bombastic. In the Cincinnati Bengals
(39:05):
losing Dan, it was horrifying, mortifying, demoralizing. Crash Tomorrow's headline today, Dan,
somebody get these snakes off this plane. Suggester forever poison
Splash love the show.
Speaker 8 (39:17):
Dan, Thank you. Splash. Final results of the poll question
seat note Connor.
Speaker 5 (39:26):
New worst of the weekend. Nothing kidding, kidding, kidding, guys,
I'm just kidding. I'm just kidding. Who had the worst weekend?
Notre Dame by far seventy six percent, not even close,
Michigan coming in third in that poll.
Speaker 9 (39:42):
And then we.
Speaker 5 (39:42):
Also have up there most surprising news to start NFL Sunday,
Deck's contract, Tyreek Hill getting detained, Kendrick Lamar halftime show
right now, Tyreek up to sixty that vote.
Speaker 2 (39:56):
Yeah, surprising that that was. We knew that Dac get
his contract done. They said they were close. I didn't
know about Kendrick Lamar. I don't know what social media's
reaction to that. It's kind of weird to react to
something that's going to be six months from now.
Speaker 8 (40:11):
I okay, I'll get a round to it. This day
in sports history.
Speaker 7 (40:15):
Paul nineteen sixty five, Sandy Kofax of the Dodgers pitched
the eighth perfect game of history. Eighteen ninety eight, Omaha, Nebraska.
Tommy Fleming of eu Claire, Wisconsin won the first log
rolling championships. That means in eighteen ninety seven there's no
log rolling championship.
Speaker 2 (40:29):
Dam nineteen sixty the first AFL football game, Broncos beat
the Patriots thirteen ten.
Speaker 8 (40:37):
They Yeah.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Nineteen seventy two, the Soviet Union beat the United States
for the Olympic gold. The final three seconds were replayed
three times until the Soviets won. Todd, would you learn today?
Speaker 7 (40:51):
The Giants have been outscored sixty eight to nine in
their last two season openers with no TDS.
Speaker 9 (40:55):
Yikes.
Speaker 8 (40:56):
Seat O'Connor Notre Dame had a bad weekend, Arvin.
Speaker 9 (41:00):
Northern Illinois players didn't know who rocket Ishmael was.
Speaker 8 (41:03):
Paulie coach pivoted to Joe Montana. Toddwod I learn?
Speaker 9 (41:07):
You can't stop Tyreek Hill. You can only hope to
detain him.
