Speaker 3 (00:35):
Who has it better than we do? No body all right?

Speaker 2 (00:40):
Eight seven seven three DP Show email address TP at
dan Patrick dot com, Twitter handle at DP show. Spent
a lot of time talking about the fallout from the
Dolphins loss with Tua and what they do now. We'll
check in with the Dolphins coming up. Mike McDaniel held
a press conference an hour ago. We'll bring back a
couple of his common after the loss. The Bills roll

(01:03):
the Dolphins three touchdowns for James Cook twa throws, three interceptions,
and then suffered that concussion in the third quarter. So
we'll talk a little bit more about that coming up.
I think what's going to get lost, and I understand it.
The immediate reaction is to a tonga iya looa, his future,
the Dolphins, the money, big contract. The Buffalo Bills looked

(01:25):
really good last night without having a really good game
from Josh Allen, and I think that's, you know, that's
part of the takeaway from this. And I think as
we get a little further from what happened with Tua,
than maybe people focus on Buffalo beating Miami and once again,
the Dolphins are ready to win now, and what we

(01:45):
saw last night, they weren't ready to win even when
Tua was in there. All Right, I'm gonna play a
couple of comments from Mike McDaniel from his press conference
an hour ago. Here is coach talking about Tua and
possible return.

Speaker 4 (02:00):
Iron I think it would be so wrong of me
to even sniff that subject. And it's more in line
of actually caring about the human being. And you know,
that's something that entirely you're talking about his career, right

(02:21):
His career is his, you know, and that's something that
I think I just really really really wish. I totally
understand it and it's not misplaced. I totally get how
that's where people want to go to. I just wish
that people would for seconds hear what I'm saying that

(02:42):
bringing up his future is not the best interest of him.

Speaker 2 (02:50):
Look, it's a tough question to ask, it's a tough
question to answer, and.

Speaker 3 (02:58):
I don't know what Mike is supposed to say in
a situation like that.

Speaker 2 (03:01):
Uh, he handled it well. But you know, let's let
this play out a little bit. We want immediacly. We
want the reaction like, what do you think you know,
he's letting be cleared by a doctor, seen by a doctor.
Let's see how he feels today as opposed to yesterday.

Speaker 3 (03:18):
I get it. We want to know.

Speaker 2 (03:19):
Now here's a coach on bringing in another quarterback in Miami.

Speaker 4 (03:25):
The team and the organization are very confident Skylar, and see,
you know, there was a reason he he was our
backup quarterback.

Speaker 3 (03:37):
That being said, we will bring in someone.

Speaker 4 (03:40):
We're just evaluating the pros and cons for the different
situations and getting through all those possibilities to do the
best thing for the team. But you know, as it
stands today, I'm expecting that Skylar is the next man out.

Speaker 2 (04:04):
If I look at the Dolphins and if they had
won this game, then they go to Seattle, then they
host Tennessee at New England, at Indy hosting Arizona. It
set up pretty nicely for them. Then they go back
to Buffalo. Obviously, you know a little bit more tension
with that Seattle game in Seattle coming up next Sunday.

(04:24):
David faronas he is the Dolphins beat reporter for South
Florida Sun Sentinel, kind enough to join us on the program. David,
what was the morale like, the feeling like in that
locker room after last night?

Speaker 5 (04:39):
I would say very emotional, highly invested into his health
as Mike McDaniel was the team taking on the personality
of the coach for sure, and Mike McDaniel, he treats
it so much like a family with.

Speaker 6 (04:53):
Him the way he coaches this team.

Speaker 5 (04:55):
So I think that's why you saw the way there
was a lasting image of how he kissed Tool on
the side of the head when he first came in
contact with him coming off the field onto the sideline,
and that Tool was going to go in to get
further testing and evaluation in the locker room before it
was ultimately sent out that he did indeed suffer another concussion,

(05:16):
and he told us today that he told them that
he's the starting quarterback of his family first and foremost.
That was what he told him in that moment. So
that's really some intel into how Mike McDaniel looks at two,
looks at his players, and how the team takes on
that same mindset.

Speaker 2 (05:34):
I know he's got to sound confident in Skyler Thompson,
but you know, his skill level, his traits are different
than to how much confidence do you have been Skyler
Thompson taking over this offense and maybe not bringing somebody
else in.

Speaker 5 (05:50):
Skyler Thompson is a guy who has a seventh round
pick in rookie in twenty twenty two, he was thrust
into action for significant playing time and high playing time
where he was the starting quarterback for a game with
the playoff spot on the line.

Speaker 6 (06:04):
Week eighteen against the Jets.

Speaker 5 (06:07):
Won that game, although it was very ugly, an eleven
to six game with a game winning field goal and
then a safety right after to tack onto the score,
so there wasn't a touchdown from Scallet Thompson. He played
in the playoff game at Buffalo the following week. The
wild card round kept him inte although he completed forty
percent of his passes, but the defense turned the ball

(06:27):
over on Josh Allen a couple of times kept the
Dolphins in the game where they had a chance at
a final drive.

Speaker 6 (06:32):
So he's had.

Speaker 5 (06:33):
Experience, and Dolphins coaches will tell you, Mike McDaniel himself
that Scallet Thompson's a better quarterback now than he was
in twenty twenty two. And he went into last season
as the third string quarterback. Mike White was brought in,
he was the backup, and then Thompson actually won the
backup job in a renewed competition this training camp over White,

(06:54):
and that was why White was released and then Thompson
was trusted with the number two jobs. So I think
I think Thompson is a quarterback. You mentioned this late
coming up with at Seattle's going to be a tough one.
But then Tennessee back home on a Monday night and
the Patriots, Thompson can get you one, maybe two wins
in that stretch before the.

Speaker 2 (07:12):
Barnley Ryan Tannehill like, can you see somebody coming in
a trade anything? Like, I guess you got to know,
you know, short term with two if it's longer term.
But could you see the Dolphins, I mean, this is
a team, this is a playoff team. They're ready to
win now, and you know you got to treat it accordingly.

(07:33):
Could you see them going out and getting somebody's backup
quarterback or I.

Speaker 3 (07:38):
Don't know, Andy Dalton, I don't know.

Speaker 2 (07:40):
Is there somebody there who is going to improve their chances?

Speaker 5 (07:44):
Sure so, Mike McDaniel did say that the Dolphins will
be bringing in someone. Whether that will be someone to
supplant Thompson as the backup and be the number two,
or whether he will just be a QB three caliber
passer that's yet to be seen. And maybe they do
Thompson with this upcoming slate, I think they have to
know the extent of this current concussion for Tua, maybe

(08:06):
how long it could keep them away. I'm sure Ryan
Tannehill will be a popular choice already among the Dolphin
fan base to bring him back.

Speaker 6 (08:14):
See if you can get it going again.

Speaker 5 (08:17):
I feel like the system with Mike McDaniel wouldn't really
fit Tannehill so much. I do look at maybe a
trade for a Jimmy Garoppolo who was in San Francisco.
Mike McDaniel, of course, was offen supportator there before he
joined the Dolphins at the Helm here in Miami.

Speaker 6 (08:31):
So I could see maybe pursuing a trade.

Speaker 5 (08:35):
But if it's just a few weeks that you need
to bridge before Tua comes back, then I could see
them just trusting Thompson to get them into the bye week.

Speaker 2 (08:44):
David, thanks for joining us. What a surreal week for
those covering the Dolphins. Thank you for joining us.

Speaker 6 (08:50):
Absolutely, thank you.

Speaker 2 (08:51):
That's David faronas he covers the Dolphins beat reporter South
Florida Sun Sentinel. And when you think about it, it
was last weekend, it was Tyreek Hill. You have Tua,
and this is a team that's ready to win. And
the schedule, certainly the first half of the season looks
pretty favorable, but that was favorable with Tua Tonga Bailoa
Sunday night, it'll be two great quarterbacks. It's Caleb Williams

(09:14):
and the Bears taking on c. J. Stroud and the
Texans Sunday at seven Eastern on NBC and Peacock Gary
and San Antonio.

Speaker 3 (09:22):
Hi Gary, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (09:25):
Hey?

Speaker 3 (09:25):
Dan Patrick?

Speaker 8 (09:26):
Hey, it's my second dump caller. Five nine one sixty eight. Hey,
First of I want to appreciate you know, I really
appreciate you doing the video for my fiance what you
did for my birthday, so I'd appreciate that. Also, hate
to one up guys with concussions, but as all selling producer,

(09:49):
I had seven documented in the military, which I believe
is it's kind of one of the reasons that, you know,
after twenty six years I left. But h just all
the stuff they had to do to treat me for
that many concussions. You know, I know that for an
athlete it's like seven sen days or a couple of

(10:11):
weeks that they start feeling better or whatnot, and they say,
if it's a non athletic person it takes three months.
But I know that, you know, my doctor told me
that with so many concussions, each time, you know, obviously
it gets easier and easier to get a concussion.

Speaker 9 (10:25):
Like one of my last concussions was just from me
riding a ride at Sea World and hitting my head
just at the back of the seat and concussing myself.

Speaker 3 (10:36):
Yeah, and we brought that up before. Gary, thank you.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
Where you're more susceptible, the more concussions that you have.
It's just it shocked me that Tua lowered his head.
Even if nothing happened on that play, it shocked me
that he led with his head And it's not like
it was, you know, helmet to helmet. He ran into
sort of the shoulder of Tomorrow Hamlin. That's why it's

(11:03):
you run that risk. This is all avoidable. There's other
times when somebody hits you and it's not avoidable. That
was avoidable. And how many times have I said this
with quarterbacks. I don't care how fast you are, they're
eventually going to catch you. Be smart, run out of
bound slide, don't take on contact, and if you're Tua,

(11:26):
you don't take like you're gonna have contact. Don't add
because he initiated that. Doug in North Carolina, Hi Doug,
and my question.

Speaker 10 (11:38):
This morning is whose decision is this? When you hear
NFL players, former players say TUIs should retire, when you
say he's going to have to have a heart to
heart conversation, I think a lot of us are operating
under this assumption that he gets to the side. And
obviously we know it's the doctor's first say, but to
what extent is this the lawyer's decision. Is this the

(11:59):
league's decision. I'm just wondering, really, even if he's cleared,
you know, what are the odds that the league blocks
him from going on? What happened last night was a
pr nightmare for the NFL.

Speaker 2 (12:10):
Yeah, but Doug, I don't know if the league legally
can do that. Now, can you back channel?

Speaker 3 (12:17):
I guess?

Speaker 2 (12:18):
I mean the NFL the last thing they want to
see is a star player out there wobbling around, hands stiff,
arms stiff.

Speaker 3 (12:29):
Suffering a concussion.

Speaker 2 (12:32):
Last thing they want to see, well, aside from what
happened with Demorrow Hamlin, but the concussions. We've been through this,
the lawsuit, trying to protect these players. You know, the
Guardian caps that they're wearing. Can you enforce that? That's
the one thing I would want the league to enforce.

Speaker 11 (12:49):
Yeah, that's actually the crazy part is that to it
didn't wear one of those. I don't know if it
would have helped or not, but man, if there was
ever a candidate in the league to wear one, was
that guy.

Speaker 2 (12:59):
But that's where if I want the league to play
the heavy that's where I would want them to step
in and say, if you've had a concussion.

Speaker 3 (13:07):
You must wear this helmet. You must wear this now.

Speaker 2 (13:11):
I don't know if the NFL Players Association, although they
might look bad if they go, no, they don't have
to wear that, you know. But still, if the NFL
had any jurisdiction over that, that's where I'd want to
see it. Not telling Toua if he can and cannot play,
because if he's medically cleared, now he has that decision.

(13:31):
If you don't play, you don't get that guaranteed money
if you are cleared. What does your family say about
running the risk? What do you say about running the risk?
I'm guessing too is going to go I'm playing. Well,
his parents may think differently. Yeah, it's got to be
very odd. Like the more that I just sit here

(13:52):
and think about it, that the team can clear him
and then it's on him to decide whether to play
or not, which you know he's going to decide to play.
But then at the same time, if it's that much
of a risk, how does the team clear him? And
then you put all of the money that's involved on
top of that. Man, it's the one more concussion really

(14:14):
made this a very tangled situation, and they didn't even
properly diagnose or label the first concussion that he had
against Buffalo in twenty twenty two. They said it was
his back, and we know that it wasn't. But that's
part of the problem. You know, did he have a concussion?
We Paulie reached out to the Buffalo Bills kept saying,

(14:36):
what is the official or the Dolphins, what are the
official diagnosis? What is the official injury here? And they
sent back and said it is a back injury. A
back injury. They were like, that's a concussion. So now
you got three maybe four, maybe more than that, and
we don't even know what happened in college. So that

(15:02):
doctor clearing him or not clearing him, it's going to
have some big ramifications.

Speaker 3 (15:08):
Yeah, pulling.

Speaker 12 (15:09):
So the Guardian caps that's the exterior padding of the
helmet that was used in practice last year and the
year before. They just started catching on because in the
off season a lot of players said they're opposed to
the garden caps because they look wonky. It's just weird looking.
Just in July they started putting like team shells over
the caps. So Jabrill Pepper's of the Patriots and James

(15:32):
Daniels of the Steelers were both wearing Guardian caps week
one with a padded shell like a skin over it,
like the skin you'd put on a laptop, so you
can't really see the pads. It looks just like a puffy,
normal helmet. It's less weird looking agains.

Speaker 2 (15:48):
But I think we would eventually just accept it. They
didn't used to have batting helmets in baseball. They didn't
used to have a mask for goalies. They helmets for
hockey players. We've faced for football players. We eventually will
embrace it. It'll eventually just become become part of the game.
I mean that would be my goal. If they think

(16:10):
that they can protect these players, then protect these players.
I remember who was it, Craig McTavish. Was he the
last hockey player to use a helmet, and he went
kicking and screaming.

Speaker 3 (16:20):
He's like, no, that's not the way we play.

Speaker 2 (16:23):
The fact that goalies didn't have you mask, that we
didn't have face masks for football players, batting helmets for
baseball players. You can protect them. They may not like
it the aesthetics, they may not like it. But your
job as the commissioner and the NFL is to help
protect your players from themselves. Take a break. More phone

Speaker 2 (17:38):
All righty Seaton poll question for the final hour of
the program, what do you.

Speaker 3 (17:43):
Have for me?

Speaker 11 (17:44):
Well, because it's Friday, Dan, we're going with three thrice
for this final hour.

Speaker 3 (17:48):
Okay, thrice pole questions.

Speaker 11 (17:50):
Okay, Hey, they're all similar in tone, Okay.

Speaker 3 (17:54):
Subject matter.

Speaker 11 (17:55):
Right, Pennsylvania is in the Midwest, Northeast. Neither Nebraska is
in the Midwest, the plains states.

Speaker 12 (18:07):
I have no idea.

Speaker 11 (18:09):
Missouri fields dot dot dot, Midwestern, southern, or a hybrid state.
Those are three pole questions for this hour. Okay, Paul,
would you like to weigh in on this?

Speaker 12 (18:19):
I would I like neither. For Pennsylvania, it seems like
it's on its own.

Speaker 11 (18:25):
Because it's got one foot in the Atlantic Ocean and
the other foot in the Midwest.

Speaker 12 (18:30):
Yeah, Nebraska pure plain state. Isn't it feels.

Speaker 3 (18:35):
Like they're far west.

Speaker 12 (18:36):
But Okay, you can make the case that if you
drove from Iowa to Nebraska, you may not physically know
the difference. But Iowa's Midwestern clearly, So Nebraska.

Speaker 11 (18:49):
I feel like the I know that there are other
places who say they're the heart of the Midwest or
things like that, but Iowa is the heart of the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (18:58):
Yeah, I'm fine with that. Yeah, absolutely.

Speaker 11 (19:01):
And that's three states over from Ohio, the heartland of America.
So if Iowa is the heart, Nebraska is definitely in there.
They got to be along, man, They're kind of an
aorda or something. They got to be at least a law.

Speaker 3 (19:13):
Okay, all right, Yeah, Paul.

Speaker 12 (19:15):
Like if you're at a basketball team and Iowa wouldn't
be the star player, they be the guy who gets
the boards, that does the dirty work.

Speaker 3 (19:23):
It picks. Yeah, probably coach Son.

Speaker 12 (19:25):
Yeah, where do we stand on Minnesota?

Speaker 11 (19:27):
Are they midwestern?

Speaker 2 (19:30):
Feels like they're northern. Once again, if you're kind of
able to touch Canada, then you're out. It feels like
you're southern Canada.

Speaker 11 (19:43):
So North Dakota's in, I mean North Dakota's out put
South Dakota's in.

Speaker 2 (19:47):
Well, just because North Dakota is above South Dakota, or.

Speaker 11 (19:51):
Is that it's a technicality or they're out because they're
a Dakota.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
I couldn't tell the difference between North Dakota and South Dakota.
When I was driving, I just and and once again,
you can drive for hours and not see anything other
than you know, fields, like no other cars, telephone lines
and that's about it.

Speaker 12 (20:12):
Have you been to the bad Lands in South Dakota. Yeah,
I feel like you're on the moon.

Speaker 2 (20:17):
I you know, had a I nearly lost my wife
in the bad Lands country. I said, your life or
what my wife? And that would have been my life?
So that sounds like a country song. I nearly lost
my wife in the bad Lands nice by Travis Tript.

Speaker 15 (20:36):
There you go.

Speaker 2 (20:39):
My wife said, I want to go and ride a bike.
You know these whatever big tire bikes in the bad lands.
And I said, okay. So I took care of the
kids and my wife. We did not hear from her
for hours, like seven hours. And then if we find
out that she was carrying the bike across streams and

(21:02):
through barbed wire and rodents, and it's getting dark, we
have no idea where she is. But she wanted to
she was. I said, honey, you don't know, you know,
you don't know anything about the bad Lands.

Speaker 3 (21:14):
She goes, I know, but I know about the bad Lands.
I gets, I want to go. I said, all right.

Speaker 2 (21:19):
So she out there in the wilderness and nearly lost her.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
So that's my only impression of the bad Lands. Yes,
Marvin see and missed the pole question that I had
for him.

Speaker 16 (21:31):
Best Dakota North, Dakota South, Dakota, Dakota Fanning, Dakota Prescott.

Speaker 2 (21:37):
I would say, Dakota Johnson. Oh, okaylu Frenzy woke up
fifty excellence.

Speaker 3 (21:47):
Yes, she is a gorgeous.

Speaker 12 (21:51):
One of her shades are creepy.

Speaker 2 (21:52):
Yeah, fifty one shades of creepy.

Speaker 15 (21:58):
It's fine, she's fine.

Speaker 3 (21:59):
Thank you, Tom.

Speaker 2 (22:00):
The Minnesota Twins released a minor league player. His name
is Derek Bender. He got released yesterday. He was telling
opposing hitters the type of pitches that were coming to
the plate during there at bats in a game last
week that eliminated his team from playoff contention. This according
to Espond, he's a sixth round draft pick out of

(22:22):
Coastal Carolina. He was playing for the Fort Myers Mighty
Muscles and that's a single A affiliate. He was telling
these players the specific pitches being thrown by Ross Dunn,
the starting pitcher. The team scored four runs in the
second inning won the game six to nothing to clinch

(22:44):
the Florida State League West Division and eliminate the Mighty
Muscles from playoff contention.

Speaker 16 (22:52):
The Mighty Muscles.

Speaker 12 (22:55):
This might be the darkest day in Mighty Muscles history.

Speaker 2 (23:00):
Through his agent, the player declined to comment. The Twins
declined to comment as well. He was making good money.

Speaker 15 (23:11):
That guy's got a capture beating. You can't be doing, thank.

Speaker 3 (23:13):
You, Todd Uh.

Speaker 2 (23:16):
The coaches were notified that the catcher was pitch tipping
after the game. His willingness to tip pitches surprise the players,
and there were no indications of wrongdoing from the other team.
Sources said Bender had told teammates he wanted the season
to be over, mission accomplished, what career over as well?

(23:41):
Oh god, I'm gonna guess that he would probably be toxic,
banned from the sport. I mean you might go normally
you'd say, well, let me see your numbers from single agg.

Speaker 3 (23:56):
Okay, not Ben, all right, anything else I should know?

Speaker 2 (24:00):
Well, I was tipping pitches to the opposition, but I
wanted the season to be over.

Speaker 3 (24:03):
We all know the season goes on too long.

Speaker 2 (24:06):
Yep, that's a fair point, just having the possibility of
having a conversation like that with somebody his career's over
when you think, let me get a couple of phone calls.
By the way, I'm looking at the games now, keep
in mind last week we didn't know Northern Illinois Notre
Dame was going to be a great game. So when

(24:27):
we look at these games and you go, all right,
is there a standout game? Alabama Wisconsin? Alabama favored by sixteen.
I think Arizona, CA State that looks like a lot
of fun. Oregon struggled, but against Oregon State they're favored
by sixteen and a half. Colorado is giving Colorado State seven.

(24:50):
That to me is kind of spicy. In primetime, they'll
be surprised there always is. May not be a marquee game,
but they'll be one. And then I'm looking at the end.
Let's see the Jets and the Titans, just because you know,
the Titans should have won the game last week, and

(25:11):
the Jets did not look good at all. But I
don't expect them to look good, you know, for a
few games, because look at all the quarterbacks who had
season ending injuries. How many of those quarterbacks won opening
week this year? And I think there were maybe five
season ending injuries with quarterbacks, not including Justin Herbert, but

(25:33):
I think they all lost opening week. Just getting that ret,
you know, the reps in preseason ready to go, and
the offense has been slow to go so far, at
least passing the Browns and the Jags just because of
what's been going on with Deshaun Watson. The Rams are

(25:55):
getting one against the Cardinals. That one caught my attention.
But you don't have Pooka but you have Cooper Coopa
Bengals Chiefs. Yeah, just the curiosity level of how bad
the Bengals looked and they're not afraid of the Chiefs,
Steelers Broncos would have been a whole lot spicier if

(26:18):
Russell Wilson Junior the third and then I guess, you know,
the Bears in the Texans Sunday night, just to see
if the Bears offense can do anything. You're loving those
Buccaneers though, Yeah, the Buccaneers and the Lions might be
my best game of the weekend, fun game of the weekend, yes, Marvin.

Speaker 16 (26:34):
Besides the Buccaneers Lions, the Vikings forty nine ers perceptionalised.
If the Vikings win, we'll start to take them a
lot more serious going towards the rest of the season.

Speaker 2 (26:45):
And I guess it's bulletin board material. But the Cincinnati Bengals,
they have a defensive back, Cam Taylor britt He was
asked this question about the matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.

Speaker 8 (26:59):
To safety offense, He just.

Speaker 6 (27:01):
Be prepared for street. That's about it.

Speaker 17 (27:04):
He can run straight, run jet sweeps, and just run straight.
We can't do too much else, So that's about it.
But like you put your hands on him, he's only
one hundred some fast, So you put hands on you'll
stop the speed so Badgically, get hands on.

Speaker 2 (27:17):
It, alrighty Xave, you're worthy. All he is is fast.
You know, if you're skinny and you're still fast, you're fast.
If you're skinny and you're not fast, then you're not
going to be a factor at all. But he might
be the fastest player, certainly one of the top five
fastest players. And we saw what he did opening night

(27:39):
when he scored a rushing touchdown and a receiving touchdown.
Chuck in North Carolina, hid Chuck, what's on your mind today?

Speaker 7 (27:47):
Hey, good morning, Dan, Thank you so much for taking
my call. First time, long time five to nine and
a Pillsbury Soft one five soft. I need some assistance, brother.
I am going to a concert tonight. I have been
gifted tickets by a friend of a friend of someone
in the band, and there's a chance for a meet

(28:09):
and Greek. Not guaranteed, but a chance. And I've never
met anyone famous. If I have the opportunity, how do
I conduct myself as someone who.

Speaker 2 (28:19):
Is meeted and greeted for years and years Okay, what's
the band.

Speaker 3 (28:23):
Who's the band? Cooty and the Blowfish. Oh, you're fine.

Speaker 2 (28:28):
Those guys are approachable and if you want to say, hey,
I called in to Dan's show just to get advice
on what to do, so I didn't screw things up.
And you know, he said not to worry that. You
guys will be very accommodating, So I wouldn't worry about that.
It's not like you're going to meet big egos there.

(28:48):
Those guys down to earth. They'll let you take a
picture whatever it is. Maybe you'll get to do the
ceremonial shot before they go on stage.

Speaker 3 (29:00):
I would be excellent.

Speaker 15 (29:01):
Just a second question.

Speaker 7 (29:03):
If he asked me what my favorite song by the
band is, do I lie and tell him one of
the hits, or do I tell him stat of the day?

Speaker 2 (29:14):
You know what you could do hold my Ham that
he did on the show, or or you could do
stat of the Day. I remember when PAULI gave Darius
the lyrics to hold My Ham, and it was really
early in the morning, and I remember Darius going, I
get paid good money to sing this song hold my Hand.

Speaker 15 (29:37):
It's fantastic, And he did my legacy.

Speaker 3 (29:41):
Some din this so it'll be his good.

Speaker 15 (29:45):
But we won't make a miss.

Speaker 16 (29:47):
With a little salce and some harmony.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
We raise the world together. Well, bagel hem because.

Speaker 6 (29:57):
I got a handful.

Speaker 3 (30:00):
Actually, I.

Speaker 9 (30:03):
Want you.

Speaker 1 (30:15):
I'll take you play for.

Speaker 2 (30:21):
Anything you want to be because I won't to spot.

Speaker 6 (30:30):
Let's go.

Speaker 4 (30:37):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (30:38):
Yeah, we really found the rhythm there about halfway through. Yeah, yeah,
a little more rhythm than Todd.

Speaker 15 (30:43):
Normally has that.

Speaker 2 (30:45):
Hold my ham. We're at Pebble Beach. He had no
sleep whatsoever. Paulie gives him lyrics and all of a sudden,
you know we're singing.

Speaker 3 (30:55):
He good sport. Yeah.

Speaker 2 (30:58):
Their their tours come into a end. I think they
got a few more shows here. Usually ends in I
don't know, Columbia or Charleston. But yeah, if you get
a chance, you get a chance to meet them. Great people.

Speaker 11 (31:09):
They're big no eye contact guys though, je y, Yeah,
don't use their first names.

Speaker 3 (31:15):
Don't call the Mariius hoodie. Whatever you do.

Speaker 2 (31:18):
It's not even funny, Like that's a non starter, won't
go over. Well, do not do that. Just say whatever
you want to say. You can say I love when
you do. Stat of the Day when they played that
or you know, what were you thinking when they gave
you the lyrics to hold my ham.

Speaker 18 (31:35):
You can hang out with them as long as you
want because they don't believe in time, so that's perfect.

Speaker 15 (31:38):
There's no rush.

Speaker 2 (31:39):
Thank you, Tod, And don't do that joke either with them.
Hey can I hang out forever? Because you guys don't
believe in time?

Speaker 15 (31:47):
There you go?

Speaker 3 (31:50):
All right?

Speaker 2 (31:51):
If you're watching on peacock and why wouldn't you be?
We are going out to the grilling area.

Speaker 3 (31:56):
The food, the food is sure. Yeah, we got all
kinds of sliders.

Speaker 2 (32:02):
This is a pretty amazing spread for this Meet Friday,
Last call for phone calls, what we learn, what's in
store for Monday, all of that coming up right after this.

Speaker 1 (32:12):
Be sure to catch the live edition of The Dan
Patrick Show weekdays at nine am Eastern six am Pacific
on Fox Sports Radio and the iHeartRadio WAPP.

Speaker 2 (32:22):
All right, last call for phone calls. By the way,
Kings of Wine knocked it out of the park. Great partners.
You know, I was talking to them last night we
went to dinner. I said, boy, it certainly is easy
to sell a product that's great because you don't have
to sell it. It's like with the trigger grills that
we're cooking on today Kingsawan with the sliders as well.

(32:43):
So my thanks to them for being a very loyal
sponsor and oh, by the way, having a great product.
So the recipes will be up at Dan patrick dot
com if you would like to create these for Slider Sunday.
Final results of the poll question there seatan did you.

Speaker 3 (32:59):
Say pole question or pole questions whole questions plural?

Speaker 11 (33:04):
Yeah, many, Well we've really don't stepped into something here
with the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (33:10):
Missouri, you did, you stepped into it. Believe this is
your airwaves.

Speaker 11 (33:15):
So all right, Missouri feels midwestern, southern, or like a
hybrid state. Dan, you want to give a guess, I
have fifty seven percent say it's midwestern. It's tied between
southern and hybrid. Paul is having a visible reaction to that.
Nebraska is in the Midwest, the plane States or I

(33:36):
have no idea right now, it's tied between the plane
States and the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (33:42):
Okay, what the heck?

Speaker 11 (33:44):
It's clearly in the midwest. It's like Plane States is
like a subdivision of the Midwest. And then Pennsylvania is
in the midwest.

Speaker 12 (33:51):
The northeast or neither.

Speaker 11 (33:53):
Right now, the Northeast is winning with seventy five percent,
although and neither following in with a strong twenty percent. Okay, yeah,
now I have another update to this.

Speaker 3 (34:05):
Only the toughest questions are asked on this show.

Speaker 11 (34:07):
Somebody sent us on the Twitter Little League Baseball World
Series United States Region map how Little League Baseball breaks
up the United States based on regions. There is a
region here called the Midwest Region. Yeah, that consists of Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota,

(34:33):
North Dakota, South Dakota. According to Little League, Ohio is
part of the Great Lakes Region. No, sorry, there are two.
They're a full two states removed from the Midwest. According
to you know eleven year old boys all over the world.

(34:53):
This is what happens when you have eleven year olds
figure out the map.

Speaker 3 (34:56):
Yeah. I can't trust them.

Speaker 11 (34:58):
Yeah, yes, I don't know nothing.

Speaker 2 (35:01):
Anybody got an upset this weekend? I've already called for
I think a couple of them. Paul, do you have
an upset this weekend?

Speaker 12 (35:08):
I hate the pile on Memphis at Florida State.

Speaker 3 (35:14):
Yeah, big whistle. Oh I didn't even put that on.
Some of the games this weekend.

Speaker 12 (35:19):
Understandable if that you didn't.

Speaker 2 (35:20):
So you got Memphis beeting Florida State. Yeah, I'm taking
South Carolina outright against LSU, and once again, do not
bet any money on these. This is just a gut feeling.
Kansas State, I'm going to give the seven against Arizona.
I don't know why I love Kansas State, but I do.
Darren Sprolls, I think Colin Klein wasn't either quarterback there

(35:45):
Heisman candidate Michael Bishop, Michael Bishop junior, the third former Patriot,
Michael Bishop. I'm going to go Iowa and Troy under
at thirty nine. Let me see what else am I
going to tell you not to bet money on.

Speaker 3 (36:01):
Colts? Colts minus three against the Packers.

Speaker 10 (36:05):
What do you think?

Speaker 11 (36:06):
Uh?

Speaker 3 (36:07):
Tampa Bay Destois? Wait?

Speaker 2 (36:09):
Let me stay with Colts or minus three against the Packers. Okay,
I the Bucks are getting seven and a half against
my Lions. I would not be surprised if that's a upset.
Let you see anything else in here. Bears plus six

(36:32):
and a half against the Texan.

Speaker 15 (36:35):
Pauli's Bears shot the Texans and and and win that
game outright.

Speaker 3 (36:38):
But he didn't say that I'm going to say that,
oh you are.

Speaker 18 (36:41):
I'm going to take the Bears to win that game
or certainly be able to cover the spread and not
lose by six.

Speaker 15 (36:46):
And a half.

Speaker 2 (36:46):
Okay, but if you lose, I'm going to get a
bear and I'm going to put you in a cage
with the bats.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
That's your TV, Todd, it's content.

Speaker 15 (36:56):
The suck it up and just get mauled by the bear.

Speaker 2 (36:58):
Yeah, yeah, but wait till the cam are rolling. Todd
round of applause that he made it, no incredible war.
How sick you were yesterday and somehow, some way you
made it today for a meet Friday.

Speaker 15 (37:14):
I shaved. They got my appetite.

Speaker 2 (37:16):
You look great, You look great. You sound great too,
all right? This dand sports history Paul.

Speaker 12 (37:22):
Nineteen forty six. Ted Williams of the Red Sox hit
his only career inside the park home run nineteen forty nine.
The LPGA was formed nineteen sixty five. Willie Mays, fifth
player in MLB history's hit five hundred career home runs.
This is a good one. Nineteen seventy the first New
York City Marathon took place. Fireman Gary MuckRock won the race.

(37:45):
We can't catch muck Rock. The race was run entirely
inside Central Park on a loop twenty six point two
and a loop.

Speaker 3 (37:54):
Okay, that's it.

Speaker 2 (37:55):
Let's see nineteen ninety one, Joe Carter becomes the first
player with consecutive RBI seasons with three different teams. He
did it for the Indians, Padres and Blue Jays, and
the Broncos retired John Elways number seven on this day.

Speaker 3 (38:15):
Yeah, it should be it.

Speaker 18 (38:17):
Oh, that's a happy They said that he couldn't play
another year or two and try to get the three
in a row.

Speaker 2 (38:22):
By the way, we've heard of Tinkers to Evers to Chance,
that combination, famous double play combination for the Cubs nineteen
oh two, first time they played together as teammates. It's Tinker,
and I think it's Tinker, not Tinkers to Evers to Chance.

Speaker 12 (38:40):
I think you're called Tinkers non plural.

Speaker 3 (38:43):
Yeah, I think it's Tinker.

Speaker 12 (38:44):
Yeah, it wasn't the family of Tinker.

Speaker 2 (38:45):
It's Joe Tinker, Johnny Evers and Frank Chance. So Tinker
to Evers to Chance.

Speaker 12 (38:51):
Confirm Joe Tinker.

Speaker 2 (38:52):
Okay, all right, let's see anything else that needs to
be mentioned on this program.

Speaker 11 (38:59):
Any big plants do.

Speaker 2 (39:01):
I have big plans. I'm going to go out and
devour some more sliders here in a moment, and I'm
going to crack a Miller light that's been on ice.

Speaker 3 (39:09):
For a while.

Speaker 2 (39:10):
Paul showed us how you're supposed to stack your ice
chest there with beer and ice.

Speaker 12 (39:17):
Yeah, the ice to beer ratio has to balance.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
Explain that though it feels like it's you know, like
levels of ice and beer.

Speaker 3 (39:24):
Yeah.

Speaker 12 (39:24):
So sometimes when people are filling a cooler for a tailgate,
they dump all the ice in because they're getting rid
of the ice bags. Yeah, and then they put the
beer on top, and it limits your amount of beer
you can bring. So if you sprinkle some ice, sprinkle
some beer, and just keep going on that plant.

Speaker 3 (39:40):
It's like a layer cake. Exactly. Okay, all right, fair enough, exactly.

Speaker 2 (39:44):
Now what if I just put all the beer in
the bottom and throw ice on top.

Speaker 12 (39:48):
It's a good start, But then there's you got to
really work to get the beer, which separate the men
from the boys.

Speaker 2 (39:54):
But sometimes I like to dig down deep and then
grab it and pull it up like I just pulled
a fish out of you know, the stream.

Speaker 11 (40:00):
Pulled a fish out.

Speaker 2 (40:00):
Oh my god, caught it. Yeah, look at that salmon spawning.

Speaker 10 (40:06):
I got it.

Speaker 3 (40:07):
Bear. Let's go around the room.

Speaker 2 (40:09):
What we learned on the program? I know we learned
something today, Todd, what did you learn?

Speaker 15 (40:13):
Former Red Sox outfield? It's white.

Speaker 18 (40:15):
Evans had pestile before games. So when you ask your
wife to make it for you with pasta back in
the day, it changed your life.

Speaker 2 (40:20):
Yeah, and changed our relationship too, Seeden, what did you
learn today?

Speaker 11 (40:24):
There might be litigation over the name Mike Floria. Oh, Mike,
and I'm looking forward to the proceeding Florida f and Florio.
Marvin Nebraska is in America, Paulie.

Speaker 12 (40:36):
I know less about the Midwest.

Speaker 3 (40:38):
Don What did I learn?

Speaker 18 (40:39):
Sorry, little Leaue officials that Dakota's aren't Midwest. They're like
Southern Canada.

Speaker 2 (40:43):
Sliding into the weekend brought to you by our partners
at Kings Sawaiian. They want you to get together with
family and friends, enjoy the weekend, making every Sunday slider Sunday.
