on the Peacock Act. Final Hour on this Tuesday, Dan
and the Dan Ets. Dan Patrick Show stat of the
Day brought to you by Panai America, the official trading
cards to The Dan Patrick Show. Last night, decent football.
Do you like the doubleheader? I hope you do, because
we have a doubleheader coming up next Monday night on
(00:45):
the Mother's Ship. You got one good game, right, You
got the Eagles in Tampa Bay, both undefeated by the way.
Then you got the Rams against the Bengals. But then
Joe Burrow might not play in that game. Maybe we
don't have a good game coming up between those two.
On Monday Night, Steelers beat the Browns by four. They
also Brown's losing the game and Nick Chubb done for
(01:07):
the season. Saints beat the Panthers and the Saints are
now two and zero. Patrick Mahomes got a new deal,
and I thought it was really brilliant of his management
to just go. Let me hold on here, let me
say Justin Herbert got paid, all right, Joe Burrow got paid,
mar Jackson got paid. Okay, Hey, ownership, my guy just
(01:29):
won the Super Bowl for you. We'd like to freshen
things up a little bit. Sure we can do that.
So Patrick Mahomes got paid. I don't know if you
have any pushback if you're the chiefs ownership where you go, well,
because any contract that I negotiated or I was involved in,
they'd always say yeah, but and then they would put
(01:50):
out something that I needed to do or I didn't do,
or I should do more. I don't think you could
do that. If you're the Hunt family, you're going up. Okay,
how much? Yep? Absolutely, because whatever it is, it's still
going to be a bargain. But Kansas City's going to
have to rely on him even more so. It feels
like this year, and at least so far, the offense
(02:13):
hasn't been there yet. But you know, at what point
do you say this is what this offense is going
to look like? Because we're talking about it now, and
we could replay this in ten weeks from now and
we might be sounding silly or we might be right
on target, where it's like, okay, not as good offensive line,
(02:35):
Travis Kelce coming back. You know, Chris Jones had a
big impact this past weekend here. What about the other
players running game, those kind of things, and are they
able to sort of refresh that and come back and
be the Kansas City Chiefs we've come to expect. Yes,
it's funny.
Speaker 3 (02:52):
Even in a year that Patrick Mahomes looks more human
than he ever has in his career, he still gets
a monster deal.
Speaker 2 (02:59):
Yeah, well, they're banking on him being able to continue
to do this no matter who they put in there.
You know, it's almost getting like the Tom Brady treatment
of Hey, Tom, you got to make good with what
we got there. Wait, who are these guys? Well, just
do your best. You know, you got the greatest coach
in history right there. Yeah, I wish he was a
(03:21):
better GM. Get me some talent here. Mahomes has been lucky,
fortunate to have an offensive minded head coach and some
skilled position players, and of course he's wonderful as well.
Speaker 3 (03:33):
His contracts right now feel like compounding interest, Like he
doesn't even just like it just keeps all right, this
contract is just going to make you more money on
the next one, which is going to make you more
money on the next one.
Speaker 4 (03:43):
It just keeps rolling.
Speaker 2 (03:45):
Sunday night, it'll be TJ. Watt and the Steelers taking
on Jimmy Garoppolo and the Raiders. Sunday, It's seven Eastern
on NBC in Peacick. DraftKings has updated over under win totals.
Who do you think has the highest over underwin total?
According to DraftKings Marvin, I'll start.
Speaker 5 (04:07):
With you my Niners, bloop bloop bloop.
Speaker 2 (04:11):
Then we have one, two, three teams who are tied
at eleven and a half wins over under. Seaton Eagles,
Costion Mark the Eagle. Where are the Eagles? They're not
even in here? What that's a flawed hit?
Speaker 1 (04:32):
His?
Speaker 2 (04:33):
Where's Ray? Tell me what the Eagles over under is?
Speaker 3 (04:38):
Come on, Ray, Ray's having a bad week here. I
heard him get yelled at on the Gambling podcast. Yes, yeah, yeah,
he screwed up because he messed up. And then he's like, no,
it's your guy's fault. And he's like, oh, No, it's.
Speaker 2 (04:50):
No, it's fine. Yeah, Chiefs, Dolphins, Cowboys eleven and a
half wins. The Eagles have to be there or yeah.
I don't have the over under for the Eagles.
Speaker 6 (05:06):
They get they're deleted, They're not even other.
Speaker 2 (05:07):
I don't know what's going on. The Bills are ten
and a half. I didn't see anything else interesting here.
Uh did you hear from picture Day? Ray?
Speaker 5 (05:16):
I sure did. Dan eleven and a half for the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Okay, is there a reason why it wasn't on the sheet?
Speaker 5 (05:22):
I'm gonna be looking for an answer right now. Okay,
I'm gonna yell at him via DM.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Okay, early coach of the year odds, Marvin, I'll start
with you. He is not in the top five. He
doesn't coach the Cowboys.
Speaker 5 (05:38):
I'm changing my answer, Mike mcdan.
Speaker 2 (05:43):
Then it's the coach of my Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Smiths
d be up there, doesn't they? John Harbaugh and Dan
Campbell's same odds, and then Matt Lele the Packers.
Speaker 4 (05:57):
I'm sala not getting anyone.
Speaker 2 (05:59):
Okay, Bob Solao, Hey, Bobby, Bobby, which NFL team will
be the last undefeated team?
Speaker 7 (06:09):
Todd the last undefeated team will be the Niners.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
Their second Paul repeated your question, yes, because he didn't. Yeah,
I know I heard. I'm calling to look at that,
and I'm glad that you were listening.
Speaker 8 (06:29):
Eleven Yeah, maybe, yeah, I guess.
Speaker 2 (06:34):
What was the question? I asked?
Speaker 8 (06:36):
Child or something?
Speaker 1 (06:38):
Oh?
Speaker 4 (06:39):
Are you your favorite favorite child?
Speaker 2 (06:41):
Are you your mom's favorite child?
Speaker 8 (06:43):
I should have definitely said absolutely.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
But then you didn't hear the question, but but you
answered it.
Speaker 8 (06:48):
I answered it right, but I answered it kind of
like hedging my best.
Speaker 2 (06:52):
The Eagles are the odds on favorite to be the
last undefeated team, then the Niners, Cowboys, Ravens, and then
the Dolphins. So I don't know what any of this means,
but it did take up about four minutes. Uh, what
do you have, Marvin?
Speaker 9 (07:08):
Hey?
Speaker 5 (07:08):
Dan, Ray's got an answer to what why they couldn't.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
Put the Eagles on here?
Speaker 5 (07:14):
Yeah? Okay, he could only do the interesting teams. He
was told whoa.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
Who told him that? Because it wasn't me, wn't me
to you. I can't fire Ray right now.
Speaker 5 (07:27):
Wait until like Friday after the gambling podcasts.
Speaker 2 (07:30):
Thursday after the gambling podcast he doesn't even get meat Friday,
gotcha is he even a full time employee?
Speaker 6 (07:37):
Not anymore?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
Yeah? He had a good run.
Speaker 6 (07:39):
Yeah, great run.
Speaker 2 (07:40):
Yeah. Picture day Ray looks like Jared Goff. Uh yeah, Paul.
Speaker 6 (07:45):
I have a quesh off last night's games. Now, they
weren't that exciting or that good. Are any of the
four teams that played last night even close to threatening
threatening to make the Super Bowl? Could you see any
of the four teams in any scenario making the Super
Bowl this year from last night?
Speaker 2 (08:05):
Well, I think the Saints because they could win their
division at home and have a home playoff game. I
don't see Cleveland or Pittsburgh winning that division. Carolina certainly isn't,
I guess by the process of elimination. I'd say the Saints.
Speaker 6 (08:24):
But you don't sound like you believe it in any way.
Speaker 2 (08:27):
No, no, no, I don't no.
Speaker 6 (08:29):
Can you see Cleveland riding the ship or a Nick
Chubb thing? Too painful?
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Literally? Yeah, it's just a pretty competitive It's a balanced division.
I don't think you have a bad team. You may
not have a great team, but you have I think
Baltimore has the potential to be great. I'm just not
sure about the Steelers offense. I like the defense, the Browns.
(08:56):
I'm just not sure you know what we're doing. Expecting
to see Deshaun Watson there, then you lose Nick Chubb,
but the Bengals without Joe Burrow for a little while. Yeah,
I don't see anybody threatening about it out of any
of those teams. Let's see pull question for the final
(09:17):
hour Seaton, if you want to freshen up what we
had last hour and let us know what the end results.
I thought they were interesting results. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, we were talking about should TV broadcast show, you know,
replays of gruesome injuries and right now it's still split.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
Well now it's fifty two forty eight, Yes they.
Speaker 6 (09:38):
Should, Okay, Yeah, Paul so off the Nick Chubb hit
last night. It was Mika Fitzpatrick on the hit correct.
A lot of people were discussing it the hit, and
I thing like that, like Ryan Clark from ESPN was
discussing it saying it was a clean hit, and then
Nate Burlson from CBS saying it was not a clean hit.
And that's an example of where a replay would really
illuminate what happened on the play. Was it a dirty hit?
(10:01):
Was it low? Was he Nick Chubb being held up
and another guy comes in low when he's unprotected. But
since there's no replay, the story is just you have
to go find it for yourself.
Speaker 2 (10:11):
But also you're giving two different answers from one a
defensive player and one an offensive player. Nate Burlson, a
former wide receiver, said it was a dirty hit. Ryan Clark,
a defensive back, saying it wasn't.
Speaker 3 (10:23):
Yes, I mean I've never played football, but we just
had somebody on recently. I forget who it was, but
you're taught to aim for the thighs, right, That to
me the difference between when everybody is moving so fast
and you know, oh, yeah, that's right, that's what it was. Yeah,
you're you aim for the thighs. Everybody is moving so
(10:44):
fast and you throw yourself at somebody's thighs.
Speaker 4 (10:46):
It's very likely that you could hit a knee.
Speaker 3 (10:48):
Yeah, I mean that's that doesn't seem all that crazy
to me that I didn't think it was a dirty hit. Well,
I just think the result of it was really awful,
But it didn't seem like it was dirty to me.
Speaker 2 (10:59):
Sometimes we look could have hit and we think that
there's something nefary us to it, depending on what the
result is. The outcome of it is where you know,
somebody gets really hurt and you go, oh, was that
a dirty hit? I didn't think in the moment it was.
I thought it was just a football play. But you know,
if we had kind of a closer look, then maybe
(11:21):
we would have seen something different there. But that, you know,
my first glance, I didn't think so, yeah, pul.
Speaker 6 (11:26):
Nate Burlson, a CBS said, the problem is MIKEA. Fitzpatrick
is a veteran dB who torpedoed Chubb's leg while I
was already being taken down by another defender, and he
went through all the you know, back and forth of
what you'd say on it. Another example is like we
showed Aaron Rodgers' injury fifteen times. Now, it wasn't gruesome
even though his he was a chilly was rolling up
(11:47):
his leg. You couldn't see it and it was not
that off putting. It didn't look like a harsh play,
but that you saw fifteen times because it was a
star player being hurt.
Speaker 2 (11:55):
Now, Nate Burlson goes on to say in his tweet,
I will leave all defensive players with it. Would you
hit your own teammate like that in a live scrimmage.
That's a rhetorical question because the answer should be no.
So keep that in mind the next time you think
about aiming at someone's knees during a game. Well, there's
(12:15):
a lot of hits that you wouldn't do on your teammates,
but you would do the opponent. I mean, is he
saying that Mika Fitzpatrick wanted to injure Nick Chubb?
Speaker 6 (12:28):
He even says that I don't know Minco well enough
to call him dirty, so I won't. He said it's
reckless for a veteran to hit someone.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Well, okay, that's semantics, it's reckless. Is he a dirty player?
Is he known as a dirty player? If a defender
goes high and a player gets concussed, he's dirty. If
a defender goes low and a player gets a lower injury,
he's dirty. Where can he hit a runner? Then, y'all?
(12:54):
I mean, shesh. The growing softness of this game and
the sensitivity of those who watch it saddens me. Is
this the Ryan Clark? Yeah, Ryan Clark saying this?
Speaker 6 (13:05):
Yeah, that's Ryan Clark's initial post about it this morning?
Speaker 2 (13:07):
Is Ryan the growing softness of this game and the
sensitivity of those who watch it saddens me. All right, well,
back and forth there. Yeah, I don't think you can
say would you do this in a live scrimmage against
one of your teammates? Well, no, of course you wouldn't.
(13:27):
But that doesn't mean that he went out of his
way to try to injure Nick Chubb. And I don't
know if has Micka Fitzpatrick ever been singled out as
a dirty player? Is he a headhunter? I don't know,
but you are getting two perspectives, one as a former
defensive back, one is a wide receiver. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
I don't really understand what's so soft though about not
wanting concussions and blown out knees.
Speaker 4 (13:57):
Sounds reasonable to me, not soft, but.
Speaker 2 (14:02):
Well, the concussion part of it, you know that that
has nothing to do with being soft. I think trying
to blame this on makea Fitzpatrick with you know, his hit,
because he wouldn't hit one of his teammates in a
live scrimmage. I think there's a disconnect between those two.
But yeah, getting concussed doesn't mean you're soft.
Speaker 6 (14:24):
Yes, makea Fitzpatrick a handful of times in his career
was called for illegal hits to the head a defensive player.
He was not a one. On Higgins from the Bengals,
he was not fine for that, but it was discussed,
but he doesn't have like a long history being fined.
Speaker 2 (14:40):
I like the debate there, Todd, Get both of them
on and see if they want to debate that.
Speaker 5 (14:45):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (14:45):
Yeah, it seems like there's such a fine line between
dirty or not.
Speaker 2 (14:52):
Well, there are dirty players, definitely, But then it feels
like no matter what a defensive player is does, he
can't win, and even when he does win, they change
rules so he can't win. They want all this offense,
they want to protect everybody. You can't protect everybody all
the time. And this might have been just one of
(15:12):
those situations where hey, you know, kind of the wrong place,
wrong time, and the wrong result. Maybe I aimed here
and I went lower than that. No defensive players talk
about hitting a quarterback. I got to hit you in
the size of a mailbox, That's about it. And now
I gotta be careful when I bring you down. And
then I can't slam you, and I can't land on
(15:34):
top of you, and I can't you know, basically, I
have to cradle you and then lay you on the ground.
That's the soft part of the NFL right there, Because
now you're saying, yes, we must protect these quarterbacks. We
don't care about the defensive player. Even with offensive linemen,
we're letting them line up a couple of yards off
(15:54):
the line of scrimmage. We're giving you a head start
because they can't. They're not athletically able to keep up
with these edge rushers. Now, they haven't come up with
a rule yet for Mika or for Micah Parsons, but
they will. They will. Anybody who wears number eleven, they
have to count one Mississippi, two, Mississippi, three, Mississippi before
(16:17):
they go and try to sack the cornerback.
Speaker 10 (16:20):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (16:20):
I remember a bunch of years ago we had Hines
Ward on the former Steelers wide receiver and think you
asked him, would you rather take a hard shot to
low or high? He said high, He goes, if I
get a concussion about a week. If you hit me
my knees, I'm out a year. And he goes, he goes,
and everyone would say the same thing that was heines Ward.
Speaker 2 (16:37):
We'll take a break. We'll get to more phone calls
coming up. Are we going to go with the new
poll question, finally receiving.
Speaker 3 (16:43):
Yeah, we're actually gonna put up there who currently has
more leverage.
Speaker 4 (16:48):
Sho Halo Tani or Patrick Mahomes.
Speaker 2 (16:53):
All right, we'll take a break back after this. I
went out and turned on one of the trigger girls
and I put on smoke because I have a package
of hot dogs. Yeah, so I brought in some buns
hot dog Tuesday. Yeah, I had them at home. And
then my wife goes, do you want to bring these
in for the guys, And I said yeah, And then
(17:13):
I forgot to turn on the trigger grill, so I
put on super smoke and I got it firing up
right now and put the hot dogs on and maybe
we'll have like a post dog or something like that.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
That wonderful.

give you a heads up you'll be first in line
for the next batch of moonshine. All right show, Hey,
Otani's leverage is what now? He cleaned out his locker
(18:48):
the angels, I don't know. They said, there's an explanation
as to why he did this that we shouldn't read
too much into it. But I don't know all the details.
Haven't heard any update on that. But O'tani done for
the year, and let the game begin, The games begin
of who is going to go after show Autani, and
(19:10):
this is what's going to happen. You know, I'm hearing
that he could be interested in Boston. Okay, I'm here
in Seattle. You know what I'm hearing. I'm here in
San Francisco. I'm going Okay, people are hearing a lot
of things here. Jeff Passen, who covers baseball for the Mothership,
will join us tomorrow about this. But how much leverage
(19:31):
does he have now? Patrick Mahomes had a lot of
leverage with the Kansas City Chiefs. He just won a
super Bowl, just won the you know this game in Jacksonville,
And not that that's a big leverage point, but wanting
to be paid commensurate to being the best player in
football and you got these other quarterbacks who got paid
(19:52):
in the offseason. Then he goes in, how long do
you think those negotiations took? Ten minutes? Five? Just just
give us the number and you know we'll agree to
that as we move forward. Show hey with Tani, Okay,
you're not gonna be able to pitch next year? But
what's his leverage there? Is he still a six hundred
(20:14):
million dollar player? Is he now a four hundred with
incentives to be a six hundred million He's got less
leverage in my opinion, just because of the injury here.
Speaker 6 (20:24):
Yeah, Paul Corning to buster only of ESPN and others.
He cleaned out his locker. It wasn't like he stormed
off as some of the headlines suggested. It's more so
that he's not playing, so he doesn't need all his
gear in his locker. He's going to be a round
the facility, around the team, but he's expected to have
surgery as soon as possible. If he has surgery, they
still said the an alternative procedure is being looked at,
(20:46):
but they expect surgery.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Okay, but do you need to clear out your locker?
Speaker 6 (20:52):
From what I read, it's not so much as like
I'm out of here.
Speaker 2 (20:55):
But but but okay, but why are you cleaning up
what was in there? Where you go?
Speaker 6 (21:00):
His day to day playing gear was in his locker,
and he gave it back to the team, like you know,
like you know, they wash it every night, they put
it in, they schedule it, you know.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
But he knows how this is gonna look. His agent
knows how this is gonna look, and that's probably what
people are running with. Okay, who in the room thinks
that Show Heyotani is an angel? Next year there would
be no hands being Paulie says, now, yes, okay.
Speaker 6 (21:28):
Yeah, they may overspend if they see the landscape of
what they have without them. They can't trade them now.
So now they're now they're bad and unwatchable when they
were used to be just bad.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
Okay, but they still have Mike Trount.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
And what a couple more years of good Mike Trout.
Speaker 2 (21:47):
Yeah, uh, but you got Mike Trount. Are you gonna Okay,
if you trade Mike Trout, then you're not trying to
re sign Show Hayotani. Right, I'm guessing yeah, unless you go. Yeah,
we can keep him. He's more of a draw. We
can make money off him more than we can Mike Trout,
and we can get rid of whatever the two hundred
(22:09):
and fifty million or three hundred million that we still
owe Mike Trout, and we can use that money to
resign Show Heyotani. Yeah. I don't know how much leverage
he has and how many teams are going to go.
We still want you to be a two way player.
Speaker 6 (22:24):
Yeah, Polan, I have another athlete on the who has
the most leverage one. He is not O'tani. He is
definitely not Patrick Mahomes. Caleb Williams of USC Bear with me.
He could go back to college, probably get a big
raise from his NIL partnerships. So that's an option which
it didn't used to be before, where he could make
ten million. He can go pro. He could pull a
(22:46):
Eli Manning and get away with it.
Speaker 5 (22:49):
You know.
Speaker 6 (22:50):
Let's say, for example, extreme situation, the Chicago Bears get
the first pick of the draft and they're gonna take
Kayleb Williams. If I were Kayla Williams, I wouldn't even
think about going to the Bears. So there's a guy
who's seems to have a lot of leverage as of
he is right now.
Speaker 2 (23:03):
But also, if you say I'm going to go back
to USC, you want to get into your first contract,
get through your first contract. He's going to make what
thirty five million dollars, He's going to get a signing bonus.
I mean, he's passing up a lot of money. Let's
say he doesn't want to go to the Bears and
he goes back and or he says, I want you
(23:24):
to trade me. I don't want to play, but I'm
coming out. I mean, I would still want to get
into my first contract, get paid. And it feels like
the longer you stay in college, the more we nitpick,
the more we look at the Flaws. Look at all
these quarterbacks who did it? They stayed one more year
and then everybody started to slice and dice them. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (23:46):
See Caleb Williams, I'm seeing that his nil value right
now is like two point six million dollars.
Speaker 2 (23:53):
That's it.
Speaker 3 (23:54):
That's what that's a After a quick Google search, that's
what I'm pulling up. Two point six or twenty six million.
Speaker 2 (24:01):
I would think that it's it'd have to be over
five million dollars.
Speaker 3 (24:06):
Even, okay, even if it's even if it's ten million dollars.
Would you rather have ten million dollars playing for USC
or twenty six million dollars in your pocket playing for
the Bears.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
I'd rather go to them. I'd rather go to the NFL.
Speaker 3 (24:18):
I'm taking that twenty six million every single time.
Speaker 2 (24:21):
Yes, I mean I okay, I'm going to the Bears. Okay.
I don't like that, but I am getting into that contract,
I am getting paid, and you have leverage to say
I'm not going to go and play for Chicago. I
want you to trade me and then leave it up
to them, you know, to see if they blink and
(24:41):
they do trade you. But he does, he has leverage.
But there's nothing like you know, going into the NFL,
the number one pick, getting that signing bonus, getting ready
instead of going back to USC and then you're going
into the Big ten. You know, competition's going to get better.
Although the Pack twelve they've been great. Whether they have
(25:02):
eight teams in the top twenty five, that's pretty good.
Nathan in Dayton, Hey Nate, what's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (25:10):
Hey Dan, thanks for taking my call to the Nick
Chubb injury got me thinking of the most gruesome injury
I can remember seeing about five or six years ago.
If you can remember the Bear's tight end Zach Miller,
so for a very horrific knee injury. And not only
(25:30):
was it, you know, horrific visually visually to look at,
but he ended up seven an artery in his leg
and almost had his leg amputated. I think the doctor
said he was within ten minutes of them not being
able to save his leg. And the worst part about
it from a viewers standpoint was that there was a
touchdown play and it was under review, so they kept
(25:52):
replaying it over and over and over again. It was terrible.
Speaker 2 (25:55):
Yeah, thank you for that. Yeah, he almost lost his
leg on that we had him on. I don't know
how long it was after that, but I think a
couple of months after the surgery. And and you know,
it's weird when you were watching yourself getting injured. If
you've ever been injured, you know, chances are there was
nobody videotaping that. But imagine if you're an athlete and
(26:18):
that's played over and over and over and over, reliving that.
I mean, Joe Feisman has to relive that all the time.
When LT broke his leg.
Speaker 6 (26:28):
Yeah, pum, going back to the Miller injury, He's right,
that play was a touchdown. It was under review, so
they had to show it a couple times on TV
because they were showing the fans what was being reviewed.
The worst one I ever saw, to the point where
I've never gone back and looked at it. The former
South Carolina running back Marcus Lattimore when he destroyed his
leg in a game. He was such a good young
running back, big pro career, tough. Yeah, I think it
(26:50):
was against Tennessee. I'm not sure, and I can't go
back and look at that one. Yeah, I don't even
like being reminded of it.
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Well, also you're reminded of what could have been for
this running back. He would have been a first round
draft pick. He was a wonderful talent. And then you
see it go away just like that. Now you know
Willis McGahee when he got hurt in the National title
game against Ohio State and was still a first round
draft pick by Buffalo, That one was you just you
(27:16):
saw it. But we were on the sidelines and I
can the angle that I had. It looked like his
leg bent back the wrong way. That how he was hit.
And at first I thought, Okay, he just hyper extended
his knee, and then you realize that you know, he'd
blown it out. But you know, he got taken in
the first round, and I think he got insurance that
(27:40):
day before he got hurt. But then you don't get
the money if you're not able to play, do you.
Speaker 6 (27:47):
Yeah, Wills mcgae in Miami, he did sign a deal.
I got the Darren Ravel story few years ago. He
signed it that day. It was for catastrophic injury, like
you wouldn't drop in the draft, like if you went
in the third round. He can't get paid if he
never played it down a football again. He could have
cashed out for I think two million dollars okay, or
but his agent did a good job getting him up
in the draft.
Speaker 2 (28:08):
Brent in Iowa, Hi, Brent, what's on your mind?
Speaker 11 (28:11):
The mornings morning mornings through five n I do want
to a seat in a happy early three year anniversary
of Brocktoberfest. Okay, Like getting to my question. There was
a minor incident at the Ohio Iowa state games Saturday
when a fan yelled to Iowa State head coach Matt
(28:32):
Campbell that he was on the hot seat. Campbell turned
around and tried confronting the guy, only to be held
back by his players and some security. I was just
curious if you thought Campbell was taking a little too
much heat for this, or if he just reacted like
any of us would if they were said something like that.
Speaker 2 (28:48):
Well, he can't act the way any of us would.
I'm and I'm going to you know, exclude me, but
just regular you know a fan who was there, he's
the head coach. You don't want your players to do it.
I mean, okay, you got a fan who says you're
on the hot seat and you want to confront him. Man,
(29:11):
you gotta get a thicker skin than that.
Speaker 6 (29:14):
Yeah, Paul, He's a great example of a guy who
was white hot.
Speaker 4 (29:17):
Oh boy, he.
Speaker 6 (29:18):
Already wanted to hide his opportunity. He missed his window.
Speaker 2 (29:21):
Yeah, I don't know. Is he on the hot seat?
Speaker 6 (29:24):
There are one and two Iowa State? There four and
eight last year. Yeah, away from the cheese at Bowl
of twenty twenty.
Speaker 2 (29:31):
One and no Brock Party, although Seaton was on the
Brock Party bandwagon. Heck yea pretty early yeah, pretty early.
Speaker 9 (29:41):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
He was like I don't know if he was a
sophomore or a junior or something. It was early though,
and he just torched West Virginia and I was like,
this kid's winning the heis maybe not this year, but
definitely next year of the year.
Speaker 2 (29:52):
One of these years he is winning.
Speaker 6 (29:54):
The highsan That was twenty teen b October Fest. It's
when he was a sophomore. He had twenty seven touch
down the nine picks it's coming out party.
Speaker 2 (30:01):
Yes, Todd.
Speaker 7 (30:03):
Now, just going back to Campbell, how long does it take,
like Kevin Durant, when you don't have a thick skin
to acknowledge her. That's exactly what they want when they're
screaming at the players. Why would you ever turn around
or acknowledge that.
Speaker 2 (30:13):
I know, I don't know what precluded that appreciated that.
Speaker 8 (30:18):
They want to know that you heard them and now
and then you've ate.
Speaker 2 (30:20):
Am I am dumbfounded that he would want to confront
somebody who said you're on the hot seat. Yeah, see
you were gonna say.
Speaker 3 (30:28):
But didn't you ever just want to like sometimes you
just got to tell people, you know what I mean?
This is like this idea that you're able to just
ignore everything and shed all of these insults off of you.
Every once in a while you're like, no, what, I
might get my ten dollars out of this dude.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
You can't confront him.
Speaker 4 (30:46):
You're the coach, And I'm not saying that you should.
Speaker 3 (30:51):
I'm just saying that there's a very human thing where
you're like, you know what, I'm gonna let this dude know.
Speaker 4 (30:56):
Real quick that I heard.
Speaker 2 (30:57):
Okay, what are you gonna do yell back at him. Wow,
you take that? Yeah, hey, you you stop that? Like, okay,
who cares like you're the coach? He wants you to
engage with him, Yes, Tod, That's.
Speaker 8 (31:13):
Why I'd understand.
Speaker 7 (31:14):
You can have the greatest comeback into the guy's face
or on social media. You have the perfect line to
stick it to that person. It's still gonna end up
being petty and negative and there's just not a lot
to gain there.
Speaker 2 (31:25):
It's like, Oh, I got to rise.
Speaker 8 (31:26):
Out of it him. I'll just keep going.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
After him, all right, Marv.
Speaker 5 (31:30):
That's like when I do something petty and you tell
me I'm better than that. No, I'm not better than that.
You might be better than that, I'm not somebody on
one of our social media all Marvin sucks.
Speaker 2 (31:42):
Cool.
Speaker 5 (31:44):
As long as you don't think my music sucks, then
we're gonna have a problem.
Speaker 2 (31:47):
You can't engage. You just can't. I know you want to,
but you can't. You know the best way to respond
would have been scoreboard, but you couldn't. So I'm really
surprised that that would bother.
Speaker 4 (32:03):
I'm pointing to the scoreboard of life.
Speaker 5 (32:06):
Same the guy who signs my checks likes me, and
that's what's important.
Speaker 6 (32:11):
Me.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Oh, my mother always says that, Oh, Marvin, the person
who signed your checks likes you, right, I said.
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Yeah, I do. I think so, Yeah, of course I do.
Speaker 5 (32:21):
And she's like, and that's what's important. You're worried about
a guy who Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:25):
Jonathan in Texas, Hi, Jonathan, what's on your mind?
Speaker 9 (32:30):
Audi?
Speaker 10 (32:30):
Dan Hi first time, medium time five eleven and uh soft.
So I have a mascot idea for Crappinsburg State. Okay,
the brown Trouts.
Speaker 3 (32:49):
Dan, all right, thank you, Jonathan, so far the winner
in the clubhouse. We've gotten a suggestion for a mascot
the Dukes.
Speaker 4 (32:59):
Which it's just about that is chef's kiss.
Speaker 2 (33:03):
Okay, the Dukes. Yeah, we we made up our own university,
Crappensburg State.
Speaker 3 (33:09):
Crappensburg State Dukes. That is just the Dukies.
Speaker 2 (33:14):
So good, so good. If only Deuce Vaughn had played there.
Speaker 3 (33:18):
Someone else said the turtles, which is I like the
turtles to.
Speaker 2 (33:23):
Todd said the stool pigeons somebody up in a deep cut. Okay,
I think those are the only ones that we want
to catch you Todd, No, No, the only ones aren't funny.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
If they win six games, will be bowel eligible.
Speaker 7 (33:39):
Okay, all right, you want to see a cute little
flushy the toilet.
Speaker 8 (33:43):
There he goes, it goes, flushy the toilets go.
Speaker 5 (33:44):
Get a picture.
Speaker 2 (33:45):
Okay, flushy the toilet walking around in a big costume.
Speaker 8 (33:50):
Flushy, get back here.
Speaker 2 (33:51):
My kid wants to flushy. Come here. Let's take a break.

Last Call for phone calls. What we learned, what's in
store tomorrow? Nick Saban has picked his quarterback. They have
a big game coming up this weekend, don't they, Paul?
Or do they just have a game Florida State and Clemson.
You have Colorado and Oregon, Ucla and Utah, Alabama hosting
number sixteen Mississippi. You have Oregon State against Washington State,
(35:33):
Ohio State against Notre Dame. Boy, this is as good
as it's been in college football in a long time. Yeah,
seven games matching ranked opponents. Here, but Alabama trying to
figure out what their offense is and they have decided
on their quarterback. It's not a new quarterback, is this
(35:53):
Jalen Milroe? Yeah?
Speaker 6 (35:55):
No, Roe. He's great runner, spotty passer, exciting player.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
Here's Nick Saban talking of about his quarterback.
Speaker 13 (36:02):
Jalen really showed the leadership that I was looking for.
He's had the opportunity to play so as the other guys,
Jalen played the best of all those guys, and so
I think he's earned the opportunity to be the quarterback.
Speaker 2 (36:16):
Okay, that's it. I don't know if he's the best quarterback.
I don't think they have a best quarterback. He has
a lot of talent, a lot of potential, but the
other two quarterbacks haven't really distinguished themselves. And now you
have this big game against you know, Lane Kiffin.
Speaker 7 (36:35):
Yes, Tom, could he just say you gotta understand it's
slim Pickens at the he's by right now.
Speaker 8 (36:39):
We're gonna go back to him and see what we got.
Speaker 2 (36:40):
I don't know that that would be great, but he
probably would say it's something like this. Yeah, we had
to go with somebody to play quarterback. So we're going
to Jalen right now.
Speaker 7 (36:53):
My other quarterbacks are in the pros right now, so
I don't know they already they already left here.
Speaker 4 (36:57):
This is what you guys do. Though you think quarterback
just throw on trees.
Speaker 2 (37:00):
You don't understand. We've been working hard.
Speaker 4 (37:02):
I mean these guys got nil.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
Now we can't just get anybody that we want to get.
By the way, since the NFL added playoffs in nineteen
thirty three, three hundred and sixteen teams have started the
season oh in three. Six of those three hundred and
sixteen have made the playoffs. The last time a team
(37:26):
made the playoffs starting out oh to three the twenty
eighteen Texans, and the only team out of the group
that was able to win a playoff game, the nineteen
ninety two Churchers.
Speaker 1 (37:41):
Yeah, stat of the day, that of the day.
Speaker 2 (37:46):
Here comes the stat of.
Speaker 1 (37:48):
The day, as that of the days stat.
Speaker 5 (37:51):
Of the day, Here comes the stat of the d.
Speaker 2 (37:58):
Thank you, Darius uh This day in sports history Pauli.
Speaker 6 (38:02):
Nineteen ninety nine. Sammy Sosa became the first major league
player to hit sixty home runs twice in a career.
In two thousand and two, Tom Gamboa, the coach of
the Kansady Royals first base coach, was attacked by a
man and his son while he's standing near first base.
The two fans were arrested and charge of battery father
and son.
Speaker 2 (38:18):
And that's what happens. You know, you want to take
your son to the game. And what do you do
when you take your son to the game. You attacked
the first base coach. I mean it's a baseball tradition.
Speaker 6 (38:27):
Hey, their shirts off?
Speaker 2 (38:28):
Yeah, I love it. And they did it, of course
at Kmiski Park. Yes, this day in movie history.
Speaker 6 (38:34):
Goodfellas was released in nineteen ninety over.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Okay, take that back, you take that back over.
Speaker 6 (38:45):
Okay, we're gonna play a little game here. Martin Scorsese,
believe or not, had trouble getting the funds to make
Good Fellas, and once Robert de Niro was cast played
Jimmy Conway, he got the funds and everything went well
from there. Rayley owed to audition for the role and
really pursued the role. But there are other people that
the studio wanted to play it because ray was not
a household name. Daniro liked him because he was in
(39:06):
a movie called Something Wild, which is great, by the way,
that is something good flick, so uh square Sacey wanted him,
Daniro wanted them. But here's some people that the studio wanted.
Sean penn Alec Baldwin, Val Kilmer and Tom Cruise were
all auditioning and pursued the studio one of them for
the role of Henry Hill and Goodfellas.
Speaker 2 (39:26):
Alec Baldwin's the only one who could have played that
young Alex. I think, Yeah, Sean Penn and great actor,
But I still see Sean Penn when I when I
see him play a character like I do see Sean
Penn character. He didn't necessarily disappear. He's got the right
edge though, to play a role like that. Yeah, he's
(39:46):
got an edge. He certainly has that. He's a he's
he's quite a romantic guy. I mean, he's always got
a lot of girlfriends. It's always got beautiful. He's got
a great eye for her beauty. And that Shawn Pen does.
Charlie's there on, Madonna was in there. Let's see who
is who is Atlanta? Del Rey she's in there too, Yeah,
(40:10):
I think so.
Speaker 7 (40:11):
Thanks Sean trying your apply to Delray Marina O bad.
Speaker 2 (40:15):
Thank you to.
Speaker 4 (40:18):
Robin Wright.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Oh yeah, Robin right, yeah, yeah, Sean PINNs done, pretty well, done,
pretty well.
Speaker 4 (40:24):
We're a curator.
Speaker 2 (40:25):
He's he uh he spent time in jail, a real jail. Yeah, yeah,
I think he's protesting. No, no, no, he punched the photographer.
I think he might have spent thirty days in jail.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
But that around the Madonna Madonna.
Speaker 2 (40:40):
Yeah I heard of it. Yeah he I don't know
why he was so angry at the paparazzi. He was
dating Madonna, Like, what does he think was gonna happen? Yeah.
Speaker 6 (40:50):
I was in a clothing store once called Barney's in
New York City and I looked to my right and
there's Madonna and Sean Penn picking out ties as I
didn't talk to.
Speaker 8 (40:58):
That's pretty wild.
Speaker 6 (40:59):
Yeah he's jacked.
Speaker 8 (41:01):
I saw.
Speaker 6 (41:01):
I just saw a picture. Oh yeah, he's completely jacked. Yeah,
guy's like sixty two.
Speaker 2 (41:05):
Yeah yeah, yeah yeah, Uh this Jane sports history point.
Speaker 6 (41:10):
That's it.
Speaker 2 (41:11):
Yeah, I got okay. Jackie Robinson named Rookie of the
Year in nineteen forty seven. Uh, Greg Lugainis hit his
head on the diving.
Speaker 4 (41:21):
Board, and I remember that. That was a big deal.
Yes deducted, Yeah, that was a big deal.
Speaker 2 (41:26):
Uh he did win. He won the gold medal the
next day. Yeah. See you were going to say.
Speaker 3 (41:32):
Uh, it's kind of funny throw this topic got now,
But I was just kidding before when I was talking
about nil in Alabama is Alabama down this year because
of Nilum.
Speaker 2 (41:43):
I thought that they would have been up this year.
They had a good recruiting year. And didn't Nick Saban
say to his boosters a year ago that they basically
had to catch up with Texas A and A.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
But he did because he was concerned.
Speaker 3 (41:55):
Right the just the very fact that he had to say,
we need to catch up to these other schools shows
that maybe I don't know, just throwing out an idea,
but maybe nil is hitting them harder than some other
schools spreading talent around.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
Jeff and Montana.
Speaker 14 (42:09):

Speaker 6 (42:47):
You like the way he said amazing, amazing.
Speaker 2 (42:50):
Yeah, we thought about that. We talked about that. We
have something coming up for the calendar. It's called the
dan Vinchiet Code, and you'll be able to pick out
little little secrets in there, little hints. But yeah, I'll
talk to the French kid. Maybe we can revisit that
virtual tour, Todd would you learn today?
